I was referring to myself in the third person. After fact checking my railgun knowledge, it turned out ~~I was wrong~~ reality had changed, thereby making my completely correct assumption outdated.

A long while back, when I was but a wee lad, I created my own set of wanky materials called the Vitruvides. One was a black metalloid called Tenebrium (it held the world's sharpest edge), and was quite similar to how you describe Arcturium.

Depends on the power, duration, and frequency of the laser, as well as the metal. I believe Exobrit knows of an excellent website to calculate such stats based on a number of inputs. It becomes less accurate the larger you go, as it doesn't account for ablative gas, but for your purposes it should work very well. I'll see if I can find it.
