"Here we are, stood upon the threshold of human accomplishment, poised to leap headlong into the unknown abyss of our future. Time and again, we intrepid humans have challenged and conquered the crushing tyranny imposed by our world's natural laws, and time and again we have shattered previous preconceptions about what limits could possibly contain our intrepid spirit. Yet fear once again returns to plague our kind, fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of what we cannot see. This fear of the future is no less a pestilence to us than it has ever been, yet our hearts are still so easily enraptured by the blissful ignorance of the status quo, and it is out of this infantile fear of the dark that we are willing to slow our progress to a halt. And yet... a light, so inexorable in its burn, so inspiring in its glow, shines ahead. To reach it, all we must do is jump. Here we stand, here we stare, deep over the razor's edge."
-Covalt Macanis, Vistora, 2150
"We live in the in-between, in the borderlands - the transitional eras between fledgling nations and galactic conquest, between human and posthuman, between the first gently-lit nuclear fires and capturing the power of stars. The razor's edge, where civilizations have just learned to modify themselves and, grasping fire from the gods, begin to realize the promise of paradise - or torment."
- Dr. G.H. Gellerman, Division of Transhuman Research, Ashkera, 2065
"Without mankind's lust for innovation, nothing would separate them from wild beasts."
-Zhou Fengti, Technocratic China, 2048
"Innovation is like a drug - anything is possible"
-Prof. Nicholas Shpak, Head of Biochemistry Dept. at NPGU, HYDRA-Russian Empire
"The concept of defending the Motherland can change in definition with far greater speed than any human can fathom. Threats to the Motherland are adaptable, the weapons they use against us are adaptable, so too must be our means of protecting our way of life against the aforementioned threats."
-Gen. Elena Trotskaya, Mechanocratic Russia (Blakullar), 2153
"I forsee that mankind will never meet its destiny. I instead believe mankind will build it themselves. It will be an eternal home, on a solid foundation of science and knowledge, with walls made of success and innovation, and a roof made of charity and good will. Within it mankind will forever be at peace."
-Johnathan Clyde Vickers, Cumberlanda, 1789
WELCOME TO THE RAZOR'S EDGE COOPERATIVE
A region founded to consolidate all things PMT, we welcome nations of every form and ideology to craft excellent narratives set in ostensibly futuristic, yet still (mostly) Earthbound settings, and to discuss not only the formation of such narratives, but all fictional elements, technological and otherwise, pertaining to such settings.
Rules and Requirements
Refusal to comply with these rules, both IC and OOC, will result in your transformation into a mildly useful pink sludge via the almighty power of the Nationstates Moderators. You have been warned.
- Normal NS forum rules apply here. Click here to learn more.
- In order to join, your nation must qualify as PMT. There is plenty of room for flexibility, but star-exploding pan-galactic imperia are automatic no-goes. Honorary member status exists for certain exceptions, but these will be few and far in between.
- All shall bow down to me, the exalted Vistora, as the founder of this group and OP of this thread. But fear not, child, for I am a benevolent ruler.
- Keep this thread clean. No flaming, spamming, trolling, or major shitposting. Remember, pink sludge.
- Really, just don't be a dick. This should be self-evident, but given that this is the internet, extra precautions are sometimes necessary.
- If you have any questions or concerns, send a telegram my way and I will try to get back to you.
