That's actually one of the reasons I wonder why Cirilla chose that chemical. It doesn't chose a target, and it spreads rapidly. Furthermore even .1 ML is enough to cause severe mercury poisoning. I'm no chemist, but if I had to guess, if you were within 25m, you were definitely exposed. This isn't accounting for walls, but as mentioned before, the specific chemical in questions penetrates easily. Anything inside of 50m has a risk. And any exposure results in poisoning. Basically, if you were in the same room, or in an adjacent room, or in a room adjacent to that, there's a good chance you have been poisoned.

But then again, if it made it to an AC vent, it could easily expose every room in the building.

This is a poison that destroys neuons. It literally destroys your brain. A heart can be replaced, as can pretty much any other part of your body.

But, as far as resistance is concerned oceanics have the best chance. We are already very resistant to mercury poisoning. Not immune, but we have a good chance. But where this toxin is concerned, its more like failing just a bit less than everyone else. It is possible, I suppose, that the same traits which cause us to resist could be amplified to create a kind of treatment. And the poison does take a long time to kill. So if a treatment were created, there would be plenty of time to cure.
