Hardenburgh Defense cuts and where they should come ?

following a budget crisis , Hardenburgh is going to have to reduce expenditure on its armed forces - so here is where I think the cuts are going to come ; just give me a opinion

Army

-250,000 soldiers - down to 120,000 (this number could be reduced by another 5,000)
-8,000 tanks - down to about 6,500 or possibly even 5,000
-20,000 artillery pieces (this encompasses everything that can be classed as artillery) - down to 15,000
- Cutting the Spooky CH-60's from 30 - about 10 units
- Cutting the Helicopter fleet down to about 150 units

Air force

- Early retirement of all 100 harriers
- Cutting the 500 tornado's by about half their number
- Looking at cheap replacement options for these older fighter aircraft
- Cutting the overall number of the 90 F-15's
- Reducing the number of F22's intended for purchase form 180 to below 90
- Reducing the entire bomber fleet to under 80 units

Navy

- Cutting the aircraft carriers from 7 to 4 units
- Cutting the cruisers down to 15 - 10 units
- Cutting the destroyers from 25 to 20 units
- Cutting the frigates down to 25 units
- Cutting the entire submarine fleet from 15 - 12 units

Two options from each one;

Army-
Bring soldiers down to 200,000
Cut Spooky's down to 10 and fold them into your air force.

Air Force-
Cut Tornado's to 300
Scrap/cut your F15s completely or as close as possible

Navy-
Cut carriers to 5
Take 5 subs out.

Is that tanks or all AFVs? Because even if there are both light and MBTs in the mix that is a huge number of tanks for just 250,000 soldiers.

Even if you have them all with just Commander, gunner, driver (and tanks like the Challenger and M1 Abrams have a loader as well) that would be 24,000 tankers alone. Then add in that each company of tanks will need a platoon of around 30-40 mechanics to maintain it in the field. Then 5k is a bit large for a 120K personnel army.

And Arty that will want massive cuts to fit in with your numbers as again each mortar or ATGW will want at least two and preferably three crew. While the big guns can hog around 200 ppl per battery of 6-8 tubes or launchers.

Cut your equipment levels that way you can have all those infantry, engineers, signals, medical, service and supply troops you have always dreamed about

Ok that makes more sense you might want to look at your artillery allocation though. Now normally the kind of things that count as artillery include

Heavy and field guns/howitzers, pack howitzers (aka mountain guns/howitzers) these are are smaller artillery pieces that can be broken up into loads for animal and occasional human transport and are used by mountain warfare and airborne forces, anti-tank guns, anti-aircraft guns (including multiple machine gun mounts in some armies...yes no one ever accused the military of being entirely logical), anti-tank guided weapons...think of things like milan and TOW, recoilless rifles these are kind of a cross between a proper gun and a rocket launcher the smaller ones like the carl gustav 84mm look like a bazooka and can be carried by one man though he will need a buddy to carry the ammo the big ones like the WOMBAT 120mm need to be towed behind a truck or jeep. That btw is not an exhaustive list.

Anyway they all need crews and so 30k plus personnel is going to be a huge chunk out of your war machine.
This is one of those situations where cutting the number of weapons will actually increase your Army's effectiveness. It may seem odd to want to assign more troops to the so called tail but with the bullets, shells, spare tires, track links (you will not believe how often those break on even just a jaunt between one base and the next), engine parts, fuel etc your army will be able to last more than one day in action and this endurance is vital in winning wars.

Your army may look smaller on parade but fewer people will laugh at it in battle it should also help your budget a bit too
