The Kaiser had heard thet the Anglo-French had sent a letter to him. He had not expected a letter to be written, especially when the territory of France was already under attack. Then again, they likely hadn't heard of the surprise attacks on Lille and Strasbourg yet and how their forces had been decimated by the German Tanks that were being used as Cavalry.
"Sir, shall we reply"? Came the wavering voice of his assistant.
Wilhelm took a moment to answer the question. There was a possibility that bringing the Anglo-French to the negotiating table could end the western front swiftly in Germany's favor, and yet...It could also stall the German war effort and prevent a German Victory if the Anglo-French refused.
He took a moment, musing this and trying to decide. Peace or war...
Finally, he decided.
"Don't reply. They won't need one."
"Yes sir."
As the assistant left the room, Wilhelm sat in his chair, and swore he had for just a second, seen a field of dead bodies and the crimson color of blood...He shook his head. Did he make the right choice?



Dunkirk, February 7th 1939
"Run! Hurry! Over here!"
The young Private Kevin Cuvier heard nothing but yelling, the screaming of artillery, and the hum of Airplanes.
He saw his friend, Corporal Charles About, screaming his name and telling him to hurry over to cover. He began, but stopped right in his tracks when he glanced over and saw the German men.
"CHARLES! BEHIND YOU!"
He screamed, but it was already too late. Charles dead body fell flat, face first. For a moment, Kevin stood, dumbfounded.
Charles.....
His best friend had had his life taken away in a second. And Kevin did nothing to save him...
Then, he felt a pain on the back of his head, and he turned around.
He saw a German soldier, who began shouting for him to put his hands behind his head.
Kevin did so, and glanced around.
Hundreds of Anglo-French lay dead, killed swiftly by German forces. The retreat to Dunkirk had been a desperate move by Kevin's legion to escape Normandy and tell the English about the surprise German assault on Calais and Normandy, but it had ended in thousands of dead bodies. The German Tanks had done something the French had not-They had been used as Cavalry and had pierced and decimated the Anglo-French forces. Blood was everywhere, even on Kevin's French Army Coat.
But, no matter how much Kevin tried, he couldn't bring himself to hate the Germans for this. Sure, they had launched a surprise attack and been the aggressors and the ones who had killed his friends and started a second great war, but... It seemed oddly justified, in the back of Kevin's brain. Kevin could not hate them. Another harsh smack in the back of the head by the blunt edge of the Rifle by the German soldier brought him back to reality.
"Haben Sie übergeben oder sterben"? The German said.
"What?" Kevin asked.
The German rolled his eyes, and spoke again, this time in fluent French.
"I said, do you surrender or die along with the rest of your comrades? You fought well, I could perhaps vouch for you to join our ranks. I'm a sergeant in the German army."
Kevin thought about it for a moment. he could die here, or join the Germans. Yet, the Germans had killed his friends, his brothers...
But...Kevin did not think he wanted to die just yet.
"Fine. I surrender." He told the German soldier.
The soldier grinned.
"Ausgezeichnet!"
The soldier prodded Kevin, and Kevin finally began walking, with the soldier and his gun pointed at Kevin's back.
"The name's Ronald Klepper by the way. I try to be unique by offering the best fighting enemy troops a chance to surrender if their allies are dead. Speaking of which, I apologize. I know that likely many of your friends died here today at German hands."

Kevin's face burned hot and red, and he clenched his fists. However, this German seemed rather kind...
He decided to not try to punch him, especially because he was vulnerable to the man's gun.
He took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled, and finally felt more peaceful again.
"I understand. It is just your job, right?"
Ronald grinned. "Ah, a Frenchman who understands war and jobs. I think you'll make a fine addition to our army if they allow me to recruit you. That is, if you are willing."
Kevin stayed silent at first, mulling over the thought.
He had just been captured, now he was being offered a job to the enemy by a German sergeant. Was he really going to side with the enemy, so soon? And yet...His heart and brain was telling him to. It was his destiny. He felt it. But, was it really his Destiny, or just him going insane due to trauma and grief from the death of his friends, which had been less than 10 minutes ago?
However, even asking that to himself in his mind, he could not shake the feeling that he was supposed to join the Germans. He felt like it was God's will.
"Fine. I will." He mumbled.
Luckily, Ronald seemed to hear him, and beamed again.
"That's great! But...Are you sure?"
They walked in silence for another moment, with them now entering the German enemy camp, and Kevin's hands still on top of his head.
"Yes."
They walked inside the German main control area. Replacing Ronald at his back were 2 German guards, with their guns both pointed at him.
"Excuse me." Ronald said, and walked over to the German general, Alfonzo Bergmann.
They began speaking, but soon the speaking escalated into a chatty conversation, but, after a few minutes, their voices went really quiet. Alfonzo pointed at Kevin, and Kevin blushed, having a feeling he knew what they were talking about now, even if they were speaking in German.
After a while, Ronald finally turned to Kevin again, and spoke in French.
"You have been accepted as a probationary troop, and you will have to learn German."
Kevin nodded. This was going to be a long few years, He thought. It had already been a long day. He had started the day off franticly fighting off Germans, then had been taken a prisoner by them, and now he was a probationary soldier?
And this had been in less than a half hour!

As if sensing Kevin's thoughts, Ronald spoke.
"I recognize this is a very rapid change for you, but I feel t hat you'll be useful in the future. Come, let me show you to your bed."
They walked out of the main command center, and began walking again.
It was at this moment that Kevin looked around again, and was staggered and awed by the swift German victory. They had slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Anglo-French troops, in less than a day. Mercilessly killing them, yet not cruelly. They seemed to have respect for the dead, and tried to gather their names, put them on a list, and seemed to be making preparations for the townspeople who lived there to mourn their dead friends and family before they were buried.
Finally they arrived at a small hospital building, and Kevin looked in and saw many wounded Germans.
"It's not much, but it'll do for tonight. I'll bring you soup later. Right now, you should get some rest."
Ronald then turned and left, leaving Kevin alone near some wounded Germans. Kevin hoisted himself up on a bed, then closed his eyes, and slept.

"Hey. Wake up!"
Kevin opened his eyes and rubbed them. There was Ronald, grinning and holding a platter.
"I brought you some Cream of Potato Soup, water, and some Chicken. Eat up, I've already ate."
Kevin then realized how famished he was. He hadn't eaten at all since yesterday, as they had eaten a quick breakfast before continuing their flight from the German forces.
He quickly grabbed the spoon, and shoved in spoonfuls of hot potato goodness into his mouth, choking on the hot liquid.
He however swallowed it, and began to eat with less haste. He ate in silence for a few moments, with Ronald simply staying silent and waiting patiently, which made Kevin somewhat nervous. Finally however, he finished, and he wiped his face with the napkin given to him by Ronald.

"I'm happy I got you on our side. You're going to be something special, I know it." Ronald said, beaming.

Kevin scoffed.
"Me, special? I'm just some random Frenchman who happened to be fighting you and you decided to take me in."
Ronald interjected.
"Yes, but I decided to spare you because I felt something special inside you. Regardless, it's late. I'm going to head back to camp. You sleep, sleep well, because I'll be teaching you German tomorrow."
Ronald then left without another word.

Kevin lied down, and began thinking about the day.
It had really been a long day...
Kevin kept thinking about the days to come, and how radically different they would be. But, eventually, he closed his eyes, gave into the darkness, and slept.

Actually. America does owe China tons of debt, but since that doesn't exist in a vacuum, China literally cannot call in their debt, because that's the same as calling America's bluff, and if they collect, China collapses along with America. That's the fun of a globally interconnected economy.

And, the URA has stood firmly against Feng imperialism for ages, and we see no reason to stop now. Something along the lines of "preparing for war for 50 years and that's hard to shake."

Brutal ethnic and political purges became the norm for the USA, and white supremacy becomes the unofficial position of the Republican Party. To counter the brutality, a front of left wing and moderate right wing individuals formed in the Western USA to rebel against the current government and hold free and fair elections. A certain musician was one of the celebrity endorsements for this group. This certain musician was rarely taken seriously if ever, and had a ego bigger than this conflict. To the surprise of everyone, and following his erratic streak, he formed his own militia to fight in the brewing civil war, stationed in San Francisco. This would prove to be problematic, as the Republicans swiftly crushed rebels in other areas besides San Francisco. Along with other forces in this war, his militia was cornered. For a good year the city was shelled by right-wing troops, and for a good year this musician hid in a bunker, giving orders to his contingent. After a year, something unexpected happened. The Chinese took advantage of the weakened state of the USA, who have invaded Mexico and Central America, ready to attack into South America, and launched a massive campaign to liberate the nations from Trump's rule. With much pushing and shoving, America buckled. They lost territory and were pushed back to the Eastern Coast. After a fierce bombing campaign in Washington DC that destroyed most of the city, Trump was killed when a column in the Senate House collapsed on his head. American forces surrendered, and the Freedom Front succeeded. However, Russian troops helping liberate the USA were in the East, and Putin wanted his own sphered country, along with China wanting the same. The Democratic Republic of America and the National Republic of America were created, with Bernie Sanders as president of the West and Milo Yiannopoulos as interim president of the East. However, Sanders died the next year. This is where the musician returns. With radical Socialists and long time supporters, he stormed the State Capitol of California and declared the Democratic Socialist Party the sole party of America. At last, the Supreme Leader made good on his word.

It is only called an empire because one: I like the word, and two: Because of it's historical roots, but it abandoned it's empire in the 1970's and created a bunch of democratic states. Only territories that liked the democratically reformed nation agreed to stay-Which were Iraq, Kuwait, Malayan peninsula, some coastal areas of Indonesian Sumatra, China(Minus Tibet and Manchuria), Oregon, Korea, and Japan.
India was in the empire after it voted to join but later left. Yemen was formerly in the empire when it reformed into a democratic state but later voted to leave because they wanted independence.

India was in the empire after it voted to join but later left. Yemen was formerly in the empire when it reformed into a democratic state but later voted to leave because they wanted independence.

Why?
Feng is purely now a democratically run state that protects itself and it's interests. It stays out of international affairs unless it threatens Feng's interests or threatens to shift the balance of diplomatic relations against Feng.

The Kaiser had heard thet the Anglo-French had sent a letter to him. He had not expected a letter to be written, especially when the territory of France was already under attack. Then again, they likely hadn't heard of the surprise attacks on Lille and Strasbourg yet and how their forces had been decimated by the German Tanks that were being used as Cavalry.
"Sir, shall we reply"? Came the wavering voice of his assistant.
Wilhelm took a moment to answer the question. There was a possibility that bringing the Anglo-French to the negotiating table could end the western front swiftly in Germany's favor, and yet...It could also stall the German war effort and prevent a German Victory if the Anglo-French refused.
He took a moment, musing this and trying to decide. Peace or war...
Finally, he decided.
"Don't reply. They won't need one."
"Yes sir."
As the assistant left the room, Wilhelm sat in his chair, and swore he had for just a second, seen a field of dead bodies and the crimson color of blood...He shook his head. Did he make the right choice?



Dunkirk, February 7th 1939
"Run! Hurry! Over here!"
The young Private Kevin Cuvier heard nothing but yelling, the screaming of artillery, and the hum of Airplanes.
He saw his friend, Corporal Charles About, screaming his name and telling him to hurry over to cover. He began, but stopped right in his tracks when he glanced over and saw the German men.
"CHARLES! BEHIND YOU!"
He screamed, but it was already too late. Charles dead body fell flat, face first. For a moment, Kevin stood, dumbfounded.
Charles.....
His best friend had had his life taken away in a second. And Kevin did nothing to save him...
Then, he felt a pain on the back of his head, and he turned around.
He saw a German soldier, who began shouting for him to put his hands behind his head.
Kevin did so, and glanced around.
Hundreds of Anglo-French lay dead, killed swiftly by German forces. The retreat to Dunkirk had been a desperate move by Kevin's legion to escape Normandy and tell the English about the surprise German assault on Calais and Normandy, but it had ended in thousands of dead bodies. The German Tanks had done something the French had not-They had been used as Cavalry and had pierced and decimated the Anglo-French forces. Blood was everywhere, even on Kevin's French Army Coat.
But, no matter how much Kevin tried, he couldn't bring himself to hate the Germans for this. Sure, they had launched a surprise attack and been the aggressors and the ones who had killed his friends and started a second great war, but... It seemed oddly justified, in the back of Kevin's brain. Kevin could not hate them. Another harsh smack in the back of the head by the blunt edge of the Rifle by the German soldier brought him back to reality.
"Haben Sie übergeben oder sterben"? The German said.
"What?" Kevin asked.
The German rolled his eyes, and spoke again, this time in fluent French.
"I said, do you surrender or die along with the rest of your comrades? You fought well, I could perhaps vouch for you to join our ranks. I'm a sergeant in the German army."
Kevin thought about it for a moment. he could die here, or join the Germans. Yet, the Germans had killed his friends, his brothers...
But...Kevin did not think he wanted to die just yet.
"Fine. I surrender." He told the German soldier.
The soldier grinned.
"Ausgezeichnet!"
The soldier prodded Kevin, and Kevin finally began walking, with the soldier and his gun pointed at Kevin's back.
"The name's Ronald Klepper by the way. I try to be unique by offering the best fighting enemy troops a chance to surrender if their allies are dead. Speaking of which, I apologize. I know that likely many of your friends died here today at German hands."

Kevin's face burned hot and red, and he clenched his fists. However, this German seemed rather kind...
He decided to not try to punch him, especially because he was vulnerable to the man's gun.
He took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled, and finally felt more peaceful again.
"I understand. It is just your job, right?"
Ronald grinned. "Ah, a Frenchman who understands war and jobs. I think you'll make a fine addition to our army if they allow me to recruit you. That is, if you are willing."
Kevin stayed silent at first, mulling over the thought.
He had just been captured, now he was being offered a job to the enemy by a German sergeant. Was he really going to side with the enemy, so soon? And yet...His heart and brain was telling him to. It was his destiny. He felt it. But, was it really his Destiny, or just him going insane due to trauma and grief from the death of his friends, which had been less than 10 minutes ago?
However, even asking that to himself in his mind, he could not shake the feeling that he was supposed to join the Germans. He felt like it was God's will.
"Fine. I will." He mumbled.
Luckily, Ronald seemed to hear him, and beamed again.
"That's great! But...Are you sure?"
They walked in silence for another moment, with them now entering the German enemy camp, and Kevin's hands still on top of his head.
"Yes."
They walked inside the German main control area. Replacing Ronald at his back were 2 German guards, with their guns both pointed at him.
"Excuse me." Ronald said, and walked over to the German general, Alfonzo Bergmann.
They began speaking, but soon the speaking escalated into a chatty conversation, but, after a few minutes, their voices went really quiet. Alfonzo pointed at Kevin, and Kevin blushed, having a feeling he knew what they were talking about now, even if they were speaking in German.
After a while, Ronald finally turned to Kevin again, and spoke in French.
"You have been accepted as a probationary troop, and you will have to learn German."
Kevin nodded. This was going to be a long few years, He thought. It had already been a long day. He had started the day off franticly fighting off Germans, then had been taken a prisoner by them, and now he was a probationary soldier?
And this had been in less than a half hour!

As if sensing Kevin's thoughts, Ronald spoke.
"I recognize this is a very rapid change for you, but I feel t hat you'll be useful in the future. Come, let me show you to your bed."
They walked out of the main command center, and began walking again.
It was at this moment that Kevin looked around again, and was staggered and awed by the swift German victory. They had slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Anglo-French troops, in less than a day. Mercilessly killing them, yet not cruelly. They seemed to have respect for the dead, and tried to gather their names, put them on a list, and seemed to be making preparations for the townspeople who lived there to mourn their dead friends and family before they were buried.
Finally they arrived at a small hospital building, and Kevin looked in and saw many wounded Germans.
"It's not much, but it'll do for tonight. I'll bring you soup later. Right now, you should get some rest."
Ronald then turned and left, leaving Kevin alone near some wounded Germans. Kevin hoisted himself up on a bed, then closed his eyes, and slept.

"Hey. Wake up!"
Kevin opened his eyes and rubbed them. There was Ronald, grinning and holding a platter.
"I brought you some Cream of Potato Soup, water, and some Chicken. Eat up, I've already ate."
Kevin then realized how famished he was. He hadn't eaten at all since yesterday, as they had eaten a quick breakfast before continuing their flight from the German forces.
He quickly grabbed the spoon, and shoved in spoonfuls of hot potato goodness into his mouth, choking on the hot liquid.
He however swallowed it, and began to eat with less haste. He ate in silence for a few moments, with Ronald simply staying silent and waiting patiently, which made Kevin somewhat nervous. Finally however, he finished, and he wiped his face with the napkin given to him by Ronald.

"I'm happy I got you on our side. You're going to be something special, I know it." Ronald said, beaming.

Kevin scoffed.
"Me, special? I'm just some random Frenchman who happened to be fighting you and you decided to take me in."
Ronald interjected.
"Yes, but I decided to spare you because I felt something special inside you. Regardless, it's late. I'm going to head back to camp. You sleep, sleep well, because I'll be teaching you German tomorrow."
Ronald then left without another word.

Kevin lied down, and began thinking about the day.
It had really been a long day...
Kevin kept thinking about the days to come, and how radically different they would be. But, eventually, he closed his eyes, gave into the darkness, and slept.
