She complimented him about his jerkin, but he could tell that was not really what most interested her, as her lustful eyes seemed to be ogling what she might have considered to be long and shapely legs (after all, this was a time when men could wear tights/ leggings and high boots). Either that, or maybe she was just looking at her hand as she held it out for him to kiss. He reluctantly kissed the signet ring on her gloved hand. Then he blushed again, as the servant brought him the gift of an illuminated manuscript.
"Th-th-th-thank you! That was very, very thoughtful of you. I do have a passion for literature, among other things. Um... Wait, what exactly did you mean by "other things", eh?"
He was not sure if he really wanted to know what she meant by "other things", given that he knew that many New Elizabettans were known for being notoriously promiscuous. So then he spoke to the other princess, feeling somewhat more comfortable as reached his hand out to scratch the golden retriever puppy's ears and chin.
"Is that your puppy? What is his name? I love dogs and I have many different kinds of dogs back at my "jagdschloss", though I was not allowed to bring any of best friends with me to the capital. In fact I have so many dogs now that mother and father will not let me bring any more strays home with me until I also bring home a princess. Err... I mean... Well, yes, that is what they said."
He blushed again, realizing that his last line might have sounded unintentionally flirty. Prince Raphael and the two noblewomen he was flirting with giggled, watching the little brother stumble. They probably thought he was being rather cute, although in an "Aww.... Can I pet him???" sort of way rather than an attractive way.

She had hoped that they could be civil to each other at least, but she would let nobody bully her. Apparently this Matilda had a little bitch in her, she hadn't wanted a fight but if the other girl wanted a fight then she'd happily oblige.
Giving a hard smile, Anne spoke back politely. "Oh yes, I do love cats very much. You read? That's a relief, I'm glad that there's other intelligent company around here."

They really care about me, and they only want whatever is best for me, and they may have just jumped to conclusions about you. Um... I mean... I appreciate that you would be willing to do all of those things you said for me, and I appreciate that you speak your mind, but you really should try to be a little nicer to Princess Anne. I think what I am trying to tell you is that... Um... Matilda?" said Prince Gabriel to Princess Matilda as she walked away, though she was long gone by the time he finished what he was saying, so he walked over to Princess Anne again.
"I have done that before too, many times in fact. I can see that we have a lot in common with each other. By the way, you need not always address me as "your grace". You will know better than to call me that as soon as we are on the dance floor together." said Prince Gabriel to Princess Anne. He already actually sort of liked her, and he felt surprisingly comfortable conversing with her, whereas he recalled that no more than a year or two ago he had literally run away and cried when he was trying, struggling very hard in fact, to satisfactorily present a bouquet of wildflowers he had picked and arranged himself to a pretty maiden who was probably a few years older than him. Princess Anne seemed like an intelligent and well-educated lady who he would actually enjoy spending time with, and she did not feel threatening or intimidating like Princess Matilda sort of did to him.
