PROJECT FRONTIER

MOSCOW - The Soviet National Council has approved the sale to San Martinia of spare military hardware and other military aircraft worth up to $500 million, which may put the Soviet-FSR cooperation in jeopardy. Soviet Union's military sales to the FSR's neighbor is an irritant in the relations between one of the world’s two largest economies.

“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the Soviet Union by helping to improve the security and defensive capability of the recipient, which has been and continues to be an important force for political stability, military balance, and economic progress in the region,” the Minister of Defense said in a statement issued on Monday.

However, some members of Kremlin oppose the sale. The conservatists urge the President to veto and withdraw the planned sale and stop military contacts with San Martinia, to avoid serious harm to both Soviet-FSR cooperation in major areas, and peace and stability on the continent.

In exchange, the San martinian companies and businesses agreed to invest and help the development of the Russian far east, particularly around the Vladivostok region.

PM Itai involved in a traffic accident on her way back home from Establishment Day ceremony. No serious injuries

By Seiie(セイイエ)Correspondent, Catherine Matsuda

Image

Just this afternoon, Prime Minister Itai was on her way back home to her residence in Nagako-Cho from an Establishment Day ceremony being held by top government officials and local residents at Port Victoria. However, her day off for Establishment Day went wrong, as a bunch of pins left carelessly on SoHo road cause the Prime Minister’s car’s front tyre to be punchered, and the car went out of control and hit a telephone pole. However, no one got any serious injuries, as the passengers (including the PM) and the driver got out with no injuries other than a few bruises.

Unlike other occasions, the Prime Minister’s security detail was very small due to the important holiday celebrated across the country, and she her motorcade only consisted of two standard duty police cruisers, along with an unarmored sedan in which the PM was travelling in.

According to an announcement by the VIPSEC(VIP Security department of the police), the road was sweeped by a traffic safety patrol car, one that uses high quality sensors to detect anything dangerous to commuters, such as anything sharp that may pose a threat of an accident to vehicles. However, the pins were placed there after the patrol left, pointing towards an assassination attempt. However, the Prime Minister is well loved by the people, with high popularity ratings.

However, there are those who opposes her, the pro-Japanese National Party of Bengal hates her for her anti-Japanese statements and as well as fully entrenching a Kawanese Identity, and the left-wing People’s Representative Party of Bengal for her “vague endorsement” of those seeking a reunification with the British Empire as a colony. The National Intelligence Service may look into these parties soon, and there may be some arrests.

Puertollano Federated Worker's Union affirms support for Castillo

The largest trade union in the Bolivarian Republic, Puertollano Federated Worker's Union, re-affirmed its unconditional support for President Castillo during their annual general meeting. The Puertollano Federated Worker's Union, whose membership surpass those of the next seven trade unions in Puertollano combined, meets once a year to discuss operation and their political bureau took a vote whether to affirm their support for the President, Nicolo Castillo. The vote passed 558 to 6 among the crowd of unionists. The dissenting six votes came from notable communist agitators within the trade unionist movement, who believe that the President is not accelerating the process Marxist-Leninst theory. The support of the PFWU is paramount to the political capital that President Castillo controls in the Bolivarian Republic. In a speech to the general meeting, Castillo said that: "my power is only granted by the working people. Once I cease representing you, you may cease supporting me. But, until the day I die, I will fight for the worker's of the Bolivarian Republic and fight for the socialist project of Puertollano." The PFWU is the most militant union in Puertollano and is clouded in controversy since the Vice-Treasurer of the PFWU was arrested for punching a Conservative Assemblyman for his support of a tax cut bill. However, this militant nature has allowed Castillo to keep hold of Miraflores Palace in the centre of Caracas and will continue to be part of his Bolivarian project.

Coat of arms of the City of Rome

19th February 2024

President Mattarella attends opening ceremony of Europe's tallest building, Torre Caput Mundi

Today President Sergio Mattarella visited the newly constructed and rapidly growing Chiavichetta Business City for the first time since its conception in 2018. Chiavichetta Business City was the brainchild of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the Mayor of Rome at the time. The riverside area where CBC was constructed is located between the A90 and A91 motorways, giving it unparalleled connectivity to both Rome via the A90 ring road and to Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport via the A91. Lying outside the A90 ring road, the CBC does not impose on the historic skyline of Rome and allows a fresh start by building on farmland that has no previous urban layout.

The purpose of President Sergio Mattarella's visit was to attend the opening ceremony of Torre Caput Mundi (Caput Mundi Tower), Europe's tallest building and the symbol of Chiavichetta Business City. After 6 years of construction at a cost of NAF$1.5 billion the tower has officially started operations, hosting offices of a wide range of premier Italian corporations such as Eni, Luxottica, CDP Equity (Italian Sovereign Wealth Fund) and GFL Automobiles to mention a few. The various companies that have opened offices in Torre Caput Mondi launched a group project to design and fund the tower, giving each of them full ownership of certain floors of the skyscraper.

After 6 years of rapid development CBC has been fully connected to Rome's infrastructure with junctions connecting the business city to both the A90 and A91 as well as two bridges crossing the Tiber and connecting to roads on the other side. More recently CBC was connected to Rome Metro Line C, which connects between Roma Termini in the central Rome and Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, giving an alternative to driving or taking the bus for commuters to the business city, relieving congestion that was starting to build on the nearby motorways and main roads.

Arrest of Puertollanoans for Drug Possession
Image

Two Puertollanoan tourists, Carlos Vásquez and Ana Romero, were recently arrested in the city of Neuquén's international airport for recreational possession of the coca leaf, which is illegal in the province. Authorities claimed that the together had in their possession "suspiciously large amounts" of the coca leaf, making it likely that the two intended to sell the leaf. The two, on the other hand, claimed that the leaf was intended to be chewed during their hikes through Patagonia, since it acts as a stimulant and can suppress fatigue, and that they were not aware of the illegality of possession.

In fact, cultivation and possession of coca leaf is illegal in almost the entirety of the nation, save for north Andean provinces where the plant is important to indigenous cultures. Even in the provinces where it is legal, cultivation is still highly restricted. Most authorities claim that the legalization of the plant would seem like the state condoning and encouragement of cocaine use and addiction. Although the recreational use of cannabis is legal, governments claim that cocaine is a much more dangerous drug.

Most polls indicate great opposition to the legalization of the coca leaf on a national level, although those results may be skewed by those who voted against it simply because they viewed it as a provincial issue. This culture of conflating the coca leaf and cocaine is very widespread, as shown through popular internet memes often calling Puertollanoan President Castillo "the cocaine king" due to his legalization of coca in his country. However, some have called the opposition to the legalization of coca leaf "racist" due to its spiritual importance to many native peoples in the Andean north.

Opponents point out that while cocaine is made from the coca leaf, the chewing of coca leaf or drinking of coca leaf teas is not dangerous and can actually be healthy for the human body. However, many studies have shown that the legalization of coca in Puertollano has resulted in increased use of cocaine, so the only way to prevent the addiction of many to the drug is to crackdown on cultivation and possession of the coca leaf. Proponents for its continued illegality also claim that the health effects of use of the coca leaf are not as beneficial as some make them seem.

BALABAC CITY -
Police and military forces have recaptured the last major town from rebel elements, Australian military sources announced at the session of the Balabac Island Council.

Elements of the 7th Inf. Division retook total control of Gulfport in southern Balabac after 'rebel' forces gained control of areas around the municipality and town center in Late November from the outnumbered town police force. The military and BIP operation to retake Gulfport lasted for more one to two weeks.

With the town of Gulfport now under Australian control, the Balabac Freedom Forces (formerly Fighters) have lost their last piece of territory. The battle cost the 7th Inf. division about 25 wounded. Estimates suggest more than 200+ BFF casualties, of whom 50 are KIA.

BFF units and forces have scattered once again to the mountainous south-central region of Balabac where they are suspected to be hiding in caves and natural tunnel systems. However military officials are already calling the retaking of Balabac as complete, and are now considering withdrawal of forces and leaving the mopping up operations to the Balabac Island Police.

Russian Bombers arrive in the UK

The Soviet Air Force has dispatched its Tu-166s and Tu-22m bomber aircraft to the United Kingdom for the first time as it boosts its forces in Western Europe amid escalating tensions with South America.

A spokesman from the Soviet Ministry of Defense said the bomber jets will arrive in the southern United Kingdom by the end of this week. The Ministry of Defense did not disclose the total number of the bombers deployed but some of the photos showed at least 6 of the bombers taking off from the Kaliningrad ait base.

"These bomber jets are sent to the United Kingdom for the first time in order to defend the allied forces and the Soviet interests throughout the European continent," the spokesman assured.
The deployment of the bombers comes after the war in Galicia has threatened the peace and welfare of our allies.

Marcelo de Sousa will be the Coalizão Esquerda's presidential nominee

AMADORA — Marcelo de Sousa is now officially the Left Coalition's (Coalizão Esquerda) presidential nominee, making history as the first non-incumbent president ever to secure the backing of a major Portuguese political party.

Sousa was formally nominated on the second evening of the Left Coalition's National Convention on Tuesday, nearly six years after launching his third presidential bid (this is his fourth). It was largely an evening of unity after an opening night marked by resistance from die-hard supporters of the runner-up, Oluwakemi Taliscas MP.

In a culmination of days' worth of efforts to unify the party, Taliscas herself moved at the conclusion of the lengthy district-by-district roll call vote — after Sousa had won a majority of the primary vote but before his formal nomination was announced to the thousands gathered in the convention — to select Sousa as the nominee.
I move that all votes cast be reflected in the official record, and I move that Marcelo de Sousa be selected as the nominee of the Left Coalition for president of the Portuguese Republic,
she announced from the convention floor as party members roared their approval. Taliscas' suspension of her campaign will not be as much of a loss however as Marcelo de Sousa's campaign has put out a statement confirming that Sousa will name Kemi Taliscas as his Prime Minister should they be successful in the presidential and legislative election.

A former President, Sousa enters the general election with a lengthy resume of public service and nearly universal name recognition. The first round vote has shaped up to be a three way race, facing a challenge for the left-wing vote from his former Foreign Secretary and breakaway Left Coalition candidate Eira Vento, who left the coalition in favor of her own independent run. His most serious opponent however, will be the Frente Nacional's nominee — first female President Sara Palveiro, whose Frente Nacional party has also formed a right-wing coalition with the Os Conservadores, essentially turning the legislative elections, set after the presidential election, into a two party race. Sousa finally becomes the nominee of his party after a pair of grueling primary contests stretching the last few months. His intention to seek re-election was bitterly ended due to his public cardiac arrest that turned public support for a possible second term sour.

What a Sara Palveiro—Marcelo de Sousa match-up could look like
In the primary race leading up to the Left Coalition's nominee, Sara Palveiro is what might be called a hostile witness. “Marcelo de Sousa is a dummy,” the President said last week, on his way to a battleground district, where coincidentally, Sousa, was campaigning. Palveiro added, “I call him One Per Cent Marcelo,” although Sousa, in a Lisboa University poll last week, seems like he could defeat the President in a nationwide head-to-head contest by 53% to 40—“landslide proportions,” a Lisboa University representative noted. Polls mean only so much at this point, of course, but, in the light of the preview that voters got last week, it’s worth imagining what the race between Sousa and Palveiro is shaping up to look like.

Even the similarities between the two are revealing. While they aren't the same age, both have a reputation for being undisciplined speakers, in ways that expose their characters—a meandering exuberance on Sousa’s part, casual cruelty on Palveiro’s. Sousa might be called a bore, but never a bully, although last week at a campaign event, he demonstrated that he can effectively portray Palveiro as a crank. He lampooned Palveiro’s assertions that global warming was just "God hugging us closer." (Sousa has long advocated actions to address climate change) At an event in Braga, where he was introduced by a firefighter, Sousa mocked Palveiro’s statement that the wildfires last year could have been prevented with a little tidying of the forest floor.

Sousa clearly has Palveiro’s attention. Indeed, he seems to rattle her the most when he connects to the kinds of voters who Palveiro believes owe her their loyalty, such as white men and women in uniform or in blue-collar jobs. If they vote for Sousa, they could swing battleground districts, which Palveiro won only narrowly in 2019. Palveiro, for her part, is pushing the view that Sousa is played out in every sense—and was never really a player and is a figure from a time past. For some voters, a Sousa Presidency would be a vindication of the first term; for others, a sign that some of its promise, particularly regarding a generational and cultural transformation in politics, has not been realized. But for Palveiro, who has devoted herself to erasing Sousa’s legacy, it would be a sour repudiation.

Preveza High Institute of Technology, Inaugurated!

Image
Epistemé Campus view

On August 1st 2024, the construction of the Preveza High Institute of Technology’s campus was finished. The PHIT Campus, also known as “Epistemé”, was ongoing for quite sometime, its plans being public during early 2024, although the initial construction dates back to 2021.

“A new and brave institute of cutting-edge science”, said the new director James Georgos, “for a country willing to face a future of constantly changing needs and exponentially progressing scientific knowledge”

The campus is an interesting issue of its own though: The area where the campus is situated used to belong to a pharma company based in Athens, and the said company had plans to build a R&D facility on the site during 2020. However, due to the suspicious deaths of both the founder and her heir, the company shares were opened to public during the emergency meeting of the company board. Most of the shares went to two different parties.

45% of the shares were surprising purchased by the Preveza Special Administration itself. It is not unusual for regional governments to invest in either local companies or local branches of other companies, but a share rate of 45% was never before seen. The exact amount of the investment is unknown, as the company’s financial reports are confidential, but estimates suggest a margin of 10 to 25 million Ā.

Laboratoire, the private R&D network based in Preveza, gained control over %30 of the shares, becoming the second most important voice in the company board. This was no surprise, as Laboratoire has been branching out to Medicine and Biotechnology, alongside its traditional fields of aeronautics and information technologies.

The main objective of the R&D network was to seize control of the planned facility, all the while the Special Administration was searching for a new place for expanding the Engineering Faculty of the University of Preveza. The initial clashes between the Administration and the network were fatal to the company’s future, with its board polarising in itself and becoming defunct. It was only through early 2021 that the issue was resolved, and the two parties decided to become partners. This partnership would give birth to the PHIT and the Epistemé campus.

As it stands, PHIT used to be the Engineering Faculty of the U Preveza, but it was separated from the rest of the university, and had seen a surge in its academic staff. The campus also has 4 laboratories funded by Laboratoire dedicated to Medical and Biotechnology research, and also open to students starting from the 2nd year of Bachelor education. PHIT will also open up the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the upcoming months, and it is willing to recruit the academic staff from all over the world.

Perceived as the new face of the Fregantese higher education, PHIT is dedicated to topple the University of Athens as the top higher education institution in the country, and to become one of the most renowned institutions of learning in Europe. In this quest, PHIT both enjoys public and private support, as both the Preveza Special Administration and Laboratoire are still investing heavily in the further development of the institute. PHIT is also a new member of the Laboratoire network, its students are also given priority in terms of internship and employment offers, while many Laboratoire researchers are becoming lecturers in the institute.

The original engineering students of the U Preveza will be accepted, but future students will be subjected to separate exams.

Laboratoire?

Generally unknown before the inauguration of PHIT, the R&D network known as “Laboratoire”, is now making headlines all over the country. Many are asking about the exact nature of the network, its purpose and its influence.

The setting stone of Laboratoire is actually a very humble computer laboratory in Athens, founded in 2017, during the optimism of the one year old Academic Revolution. Like many of its kind, it wasn’t meant to last, with the laboratory being envisioned to close in 2019. During mid-2018 however, an unknown investor contacted the laboratory team, and made an investment of 4 million Alforias (approximately 4.3 million Ā). This was the trigger for the meteoric yet secretive rise of the laboratory.

Finishing numerous software projects, the laboratory had attracted 10 million Ā by late 2020, and brought many other laboratories under its roof. The three laboratory network then relocated to Preveza during the Metropolitan Expansion years, and recruited an R&D company to their ranks. Many of the inventions of the research network has been attracting hundreds of millions of Ā just during the prototype and testing phases, with numerous important contemporary scientific papers being published by its member researchers.

By 2024, the network includes 24 laboratories working on Information Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology and Genetics; 5 different tech companies; and the most recent member being PHIT.

The network keeps its objectives confidential, with researchers and other personnel known to have refused to talk about the internal policy of the network. Whatever the case, we can be certain that Laboratoire is name we will hear more often.

OOC (you don’t know this): Both the Preveza Special Administration and Laboratoire are in fact controlled by the Mirai.

The EAC has offered the new government economic support and diplomatic recognition. Nuru also added that the "Establishment of this new step is a great step forward for the African Continent as a whole.

Etienam Technologies Announces Strides in Medical Technologies

For the last year, Etienam Technologies has been relatively quiet with the exception of the construction of several facilities and the completion of their first hybrid airship. However, in a surprise announcement today the tech company has announced its newest line of innovations based within the medical field. Some of their innovations include needle-less syringes, foam compression bandages, and a quick-inflate head splint. However, what the company was most excited to show off was its new Portable Array for Diagnosis and Aid, or PADA for short. PADA is a compact personal computer the size of a large phone that is equipped with wireless sensory pads that can be placed on patients. These pads when placed on the patient can monitor everything from heart rate and blood pressure to the location and intensity of any pain on the human body. This is done via analysis of the flow of electricity through nerves which is translated by PADA. This technology allows for quick diagnosis and accurate ones as well. Paired with the other new medical technologies presented PADA has the ability to be a life saving technology for local doctors, first responders, and the military.

PADA will also include direct internet access and will boast more attachments in the future

Etienam Technologies has announced the first wave of products will be donated to local hospitals, urgent cares, and first responders. This technology is also being bought by the military and private medical services as well.

Launching of the Venture

Built and funded along with the XV Program for a new generation of vessels, the first Commonwealth built vessel in nearly a century rolled off the slip at Commonwealth Dockyards, the CV Venture. The Venture is the first ship in the XV Program and to the surprise of all onlookers, she is not built for the Navy. While the vessel does have the ability to engage in combat and possesses military grade systems, the vessel is not a warship. Instead, the 345 foot ship has been classified as an 'Amity Frigate' with the mission of disaster response, outreach, and exploration. The vessel's launch was viewed with mixed opinions as many feel that the vessel should be a ship of war considering the situation on the border of the DRC. Regardless, the ship has launched and is currently en-route to conduct sea trials off the coast of Zanzibar.

Constitutional Delegates To Be Elected By February 24

The National Transition Council has scheduled the election of delegates from Lebanon's pronvinces for the Constitutional Convention to take place on February 24, 2024. From there the delegates will have to work together to draft the country's constitution. The National Transition Council will not take part in creating the constitution, committing completely to the saying, "for the people, by the people." Lebanon has a total of 8 provinces and each province will get two delegates, directly elected by popular vote by people who live in them. The only rules set for the upcoming constitutional convention is that all 16 delegates will have to unanimously agree on every single part of the constitution.

Worry from the general country that the constitutional convention might take long might not be all true though. Alamuddin "Amal" Aladeen has stepped down from her position in the country's National Transition Council saying that
It is a conflict of interest for me to be in the transition council which should be apolitical, while actively trying to promote democracy in our country.

It is widely speculated that Amal will be running for president or for whatever leadership position in the country the constitutional convention comes up with. Her Cedar Movement could mean that delegates that get elected associated with it would be pushing for the same goals. Her good image with the country as well is a strong factor that could help elect constitutional delegates who share the Cedar Movement's beliefs. She has strategically distanced herself from her father and her brother and often spoke up against some of their most extreme policies. Hopeful Lebanese see her as the country's hope and champion for a freedom in all aspects of Lebanese life and culture.

Amal, the late General Saddam Omar Aladeen's eldest daughter, has announced that she is forming the "Cedar Movement" in a rally this morning in Beirut, attended by 20,000 Lebanese. Here is how she described the Cedar Movement:
This is a movement for democracy. This is a movement by our people. Our people, who believe in justice, in equality and in love, not division. I will be touring all our country's provinces to promote and endorse delegates who are in favor of democracy.
From Beirut, Amal will begin a countrywide bus tour. She also released the manifesto for the Cedar Movement, which included advocacy for non-sectarianism, unicameralism and social liberalism.

Not much news has come from her younger brother, Admiral General Aladeen Aladeen who many have assumed has the complete backing of the military, which has some leaders who have publicly criticized the National Transition Council and even the election of delegates. Since military leaders in Lebanon under the late General Saddam were allowed to run for elections (not real however, they were really handpicked and only ran for publicity) some have announced their intentions to run as delegates in their home provinces.

Long live Europa

Climate Stabilization Compact, Refugees, and Fortress Europe - French action in the DEU Assembly

Op-Ed: Charles Dupont

The recent passage of the Climate Stabilization Compact is a landmark achievement in global efforts against carbon emissions, which Europe has played a major role in ever since the Moscow Green Treaty. Much like the Moscow document, it was an idea born originally in Paris; but now all of Europe can stand tall and claim to be doing their part. The EIM offers the perfect framework within which to regulate a path towards emissions reduction, and at the same time pioneer new technologies to speed the transition to a green economy.

The French delegation to the DEU is not resting on its laurels. This week it is leading discussions surrounding national policies for refugees and asylum seekers, with the goal of achieving a European consensus with which to subsequently announce a Confederation program on the issue. While to date conflicts have mostly created temporary internal displacement of people, with new governments backed by either Europe or South America being installed to restore order and peace, it is not unforeseeable that a future catastrophe might open the door to a humanitarian collapse which is simply irreparable. I am proud that the DEU Foreign Aid Council, another effort spearheaded by France alongside the Scandinavians, is actively deployed to help mediate conditions which might destabilize those most at risk abroad.

And now a look to the future. This war over Galicia has evolved into an Iberian-wide conflict, and is already being called a Second Fantastic War. The First Fantastic War killed tens of thousands across two continents; South America and Europe. I hope that such loss can be avoided this time, and that Europe may come together as one as it approaches a final conclusion. France will remain neutral in this conflict so long as ICBMs, IRBMs, and weapons of mass destruction are not utilized against Europe's civilian population, and for that I am glad. However, once this bloody campaign is consigned to the history books, the DEU must assess its events and seek to emerge stronger than ever. To ensure that our continent remains united, and ready to face external threats should they present themselves. In the Second World War, both sides referred to a 'Fortress Europe', with different meanings. Post-war the term sometimes resurfaces with attempts to give it a new modern context, but now I draw upon it; I see the potential for a Europe which stands together against villains and tyrants in the name of the Ideals of our Union, and is an unassailable bastion of light in this dark world still haunted by the power vacuum never quite filled following the American-Soviet War. A continent able to survive any siege, and I hope that with the DEU's guidance this can be the last war on European soil. Is this a naive idea? Perhaps, but this is Generation Europe, the first of a new era in European Civilization.

Should I win the next election, I will make Europe my top priority. From Atlantic to the Urals, or perhaps even beyond.

Life in Balabac returns to normal, but not all are buying it
December 28,2023 | Robert Cranpim

Governor Timothy Arnolds(R)

BALABAC CITY - The Australian Army has effectively transferred control of former rebel held terriroties to the Balabac Island government last December 25, after a week since rebel forces were forced out. However, the 1st Inf Battalion of the 7th ID will still be stationed in Gulfport and the 2nd Inf Battalion stationed at Balabac City.

Although rebel forces numbering close to a thousand still are at large in the central ranges of Balabac Island, the newly appointed governor of Balabac, Timothy Arnolds, said that his main priority is to start rehabilitating affected areas and to get Balabac back to its feet. The new governor gave Avanroa and several other news networks on December 26 a short statement regarding his plans for the island after suffering a grueling rebellion.

Canberra is reassuring all residents of Balabac that change is coming. I will be coordinating with island officials and local government units on how we could make Balabac great again.

Since Christmas Day, many affected residents are already returning from northern Balabac back to their respective homes. The situation in most northern and central towns and cities is already returning back to normal as the New Year celebration starts to begin. Balabac City has once again been opened to international travel as the new Balabac government was given the green light by the military to do so. Prices and supply of market products have already been freed from government price controls and schools have begun to open once more after a month and a half.

However, many in the southern areas of Balabac are still seriously low in water, electricity and common supplies. Most towns are still devoid of activity, with most residents heading north or in fear of rebel and military presence. Many people who had decided to stay are still expressing their dismay and anger at the Island and national government of the lack of humanitarian aid. Some are even criticizing that the Balabac government is ostracizing the majority of Latino southern regions of Balabac due to the fact that many rebel groups sprung up from the area. Governor Arnolds has denied such criticism.

Military Defense agreements signed

Morrison continues to increase his influence in
the Legislature House, good or bad?

CANBERRA - Prime Minister's drive to improving Australia's national security has taken a huge step as the government finally agreed to signing mutual defense agreements (MDA) with the nations of Segentaea and San Martinia. Representatives of the two countries met with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Foreign secretary John Rowe to sign the said agreements in front of the National Legislature House in Canberra. It comes to no surprise that Scott Morrison's ardent efforts to winning popular support in the House have paid off.

The defense agreements signed with these countries include several notable clauses:
  • Both signatories shall go to the assistance of the other when they are under the threat of conflict or provoked.
  • Both signatories shall undergo joint military drills when necessary.
  • Both signatories will be given rights to be able to deploy military personnel in each other's military bases.
  • Both signatories shall support each other's efforts in pursuing stability in their own respective regions.
  • This agreement is valid for 10 years and is renewable for another 10 more years if both sides agree to continue said MDP.

Many opposition groups are saying that these military agreements only led to increased budgets for foreign assistance and the military instead of social services, health, and education. Morrison has slammed back on these groups stating that the latter three is in danger without allies.

2024-2025 Budget Released
January 12,2024 | Roger Peterson

2024-2025 Australian budget, approved by
National Legislature House

CANBERRA -
After several weeks of discussions within Canberra, the National Legislature House finally released the official government budget for the year 2024-2025.

The government budget of 1.343 trillion dollars is nearly four times bigger than that of the 2018-2019 budget which was at the $457 billion mark. The increased expenditure power of the government is a result of a great 2023-2024 fiscal year that came from stable government administration, positive results from local and abroad investments;new trade agreements with other countries, great diplomatic relations with European and Asian neigbors, local public and private corporations generating more revenues for corporate taxes from their increased profits, and multi-billion dollar sales in government-to-government military deals.

This year's total budget is 34.7% of the country's GDP.

The sector with the highest allocation of funds is the Department of Education, with $211.98Bn or 16% of the total budget. The education budget will be primarily used in the development of schools facilities and laboratories, funding of scholarships for secondary and tertiary levels, and other operations of government schools. The Department has stated that it is seeking to foster more STEM programs for this year in order to produce more high-level workers in the scientific field.

The Department of Health will be spending its $193Bn budget in the procurement of medical instruments and laboratory equipment, funding public healthcare beneficiaries and medical research, and upgrading of hospitals across the country to better serve and contain far deadlier diseases. The Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities will see to it that its $184Bn budget will be used to maintain the country's infrastructure.

The Department of Defence has been allocated nearly $183Bn. It is by far the biggest budget the military has been given. It is more than $80Bn more than the 2019-2020 budget. It is believed that the military will be using this huge budget to continue upgrading its defense capabilities in its overseas bases, procure more naval submarines and weapons systems, and develop new weapons under the highly classified EPYRIS PROJECT.

The EAC on the World Stage

With the recent rise of conflict across the world once more many have begun to ask what the priorities of the EAC are on the world stage. It has been a question that has been on the minds of many citizens all over the Commonwealth as the government has yet to make a stance on many global issues. Today, the government announced the Afrika Doctrine, a set of guidelines for what will be the primary concerns of the EAC in the future. These include the following:

  • The Commonwealth will NOT intervene in conflicts and wars outside of or not involving the African Continent
  • The Commonwealth will NOT tolerate or allow the shipment of arms to any African Nations engaged in human rights abuses or are in a state of civil war
  • The Commonwealth will NOT tolerate foreign back revolts or civil wars within the African Continent
  • The Commonwealth will NOT tolerate foreign influence in a nation meant to create unrest or challenge the current government
  • The Commonwealth will NOT tolerate the deployment of foreign forces to the African Continent in a war of aggression or in support of a civil war
  • The Commonwealth WILL prioritize giving aid to those involved in conflict via diplomatic channels and medical and food aid
  • The Commonwealth WILL prioritize creating a stable and more open Africa via diplomatic means and not via military might
  • The Commonwealth WILL prioritize creating a fighting force meant for self defense, disaster response, and exploration
  • The Commonwealth WILL prioritize improving the standard of living for the people of Africa

The Afrika Doctrine is the first major global initiate that the Commonwealth has attempted in the 21st century and many both inside and outside the nation will be looking to this doctrine as the test to see if the Commonwealth can exist in the modern world.

Future of the Military

With the current standoff in the DRC, the launch of the CV Venture, and the establishment of the Afrkica Doctrine many within the military are raising questions as to what the goal of the military is. With the Army now fully equipped with modern weapons and training thanks to Canadian aid the military is able to counter any current force on the nation's borders making it qualify in the new self-defense role. However, the Air Force and Navy are still lacking in terms of forces and technology. The military is set for a massive overhaul to address this as well as establish itself as a full time Self-Defense Force. The Army will remain the same with the same number of divisions and soldiers but will also be given equipment to act as peacekeeper and disaster response forces. This equipment includes non-lethal weapons, E Tech Airships, and an improved communications system. The Army will have the express goal of the defense of the nation but it shall stand ready for deployment for both disaster relief and enforcement of the Afrika Doctrine.

The Air Force will receive a major amount of funding for new aircraft, primarily helicopters. While the branch will be receiving funding for fighters can ground support aircraft, helicopters are needed for the force to be able to quickly deploy personnel in case of supporting the Army. The Air Force will maintain two sub-branches being a combat core and a logistics one as the infrastructure of the EAC is still lacking. The Combat segment will be in change of all offensive and defensive craft being fighters, CAS, bombers, and attack helicopters. Transport aircraft, transport helicopters, and airships will fall under the jurisdiction of the logistics segment. The main goal of this force is to work in tanget with the Army during operations and ensure the skies stay in the hands of the EAC. Additionally, this force will function on its own to supply areas affected by natural disasters with transport aircraft.

Lastly, the Navy is currently the most of out date and underfunded branch. While the XV program seeks to modernize the force it is very clear that the navy will never be able to flex military might comparative to that of Europe in the EAC's present state. That being said, the Navy has decided to go forward with three goals in mind being Maritime Security, Disaster Response, and Diplomatic Outreach. The Maritime Security segment calls for a fleet of frigate sized vessels to ensue trade along the East African Coast is protected from piracy. This includes both the waters of the EAC and neighboring waters with the permission of local governments. In terms of Disaster Response the fleet will operate a similar group of frigates and several large command ships, likely based on Amphibious Assault Ships, to act as a fast reaction force to deliver supplies and conduct humanitarian missions. The Marines are part of this segment. Lastly, the Diplomatic Outreach falls to vessels such as the Venture which has the goal of being representatives of the EAC abroad in regions far beyond the sphere of the EAC. These ships would patrol the world and conduct both diplomatic and exploration missions. The overall goal of the Navy has been described as a shield on the high seas and being the face of the Commonwealth to the international community.

Portugal sues for peace after failed invasion

The illegal war against the Socialist Federal Republic of Galicia by Portugal and the Germanic Union has quickly come to a stand-still, after Portugal has sued for peace with Galicia and her allies. When Premier Santos took to national television the night of the barbaric aerial assault on the capital of Santiago de Compostela, he said he would not bow the bullies of the imperialist Western European powers. On that night, when he gave his vow to the Galician people, he knew that the war (if continued) would be costly - both in monetary and moral terms. But, he knew that he would never abandon his nation in the midst of a war of aggression, of imperialism, of capitalism, of corruption.

In a mass-mobilisation of people power, of allies and the Galician motherland, the war came to a fast conclusion. Portugal was haunted by its allegiance to the Germanic Union, a weak and unorganized power that fails militarily constantly. The small and poorly-armed Portugese military was not aided well by their Germanic partners (or puppeteers) during the invasion. Imperialist coalition aircraft were shot down left, right and centre. Galicians watched as the buzzing hornets of the sky were knocked down, in a ball of flames. If the pilots survived, they were arrested by the Galician authorities, with the help of the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano, who honoured their mutual defence treaty.

Moreso, the death of tens of thousands of German Marines in the Northern Atlantic hit the nail in the coffin for the illegal and aggressive war against Galicia. After the Germanic war criminals and their Portuguese puppets discovered tens of thousands of their soldiers faced a watery grave by Galicia and her Bolivarian allies, they began suing for peace. However, when Portugal and the Germanic Union attempted to meet Galicia, the Federation of Socialist Republics and Puertollano in dialogue, they approached the negotiations as though they had the upper-hand. They demanded that Galicia make concessions, despite their brave and successful repelling of the initial invasion.

If the Germanic Union and Portugal are looking for peace, after having their air forces decimated over the sky of Galicia, they must approach the defenders with concessions they are willing to give up, in order to cover for their cowardly retreat. Portugal should have known better than to ally themselves with the Germanic Union, which has unequivocally committed war crimes in Africa, broken international maritime law and illegal invading in unprovoked and costly wars. They should have known, further, that the Germanic Union has never won a war in modern history. The most historical was the tremendous blunder in Poland, where tens of thousands of Germanic soldiers were killed or captured. Where Polish factory workers encircled entire battalions of Germanic forces and defeating the German army (so much that they were forced to call in the forces of France).

Portugal should have been wiser than to associate with the Germanic Union and their criminal leadership. It comes as no surprise that the Germanic Union failed in this invasion is now trying to cover up for its incredible mistake. Make no doubts, South America and Galicia are in favour of peace, but they will not accept any un-fair resolutions to the conflict, especially as they approach a status of higher leverage in the talks.

Cyber attack causes several Marina Militare fleets to be recalled to port

Today it was announced that an unprecedented cyber attack had struck the Marina Militare's North and South Atlantic, South Pacific and both Eastern and Western Mediterranean fleets. The specific impacts of the cyber attack on 5 of the Marina Militare's 9 official fleets have not been released by the Ministry of Defence for national security reasons, and only describes the cyber attack as a "Causing a breach of operational security and software damage that requires special attention in port."

The North Atlantic fleet and Western Mediterranean fleet are both on course for their homeport of La Spezia whilst the Eastern Mediterranean fleet will return to its homeport of Taranto. Meanwhile the South Pacific and South Atlantic fleets will return to their homeport of Cape Thetis.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that several M-class SSN's which currently operate globally, some of which are not attached to a specific fleet, will be repositioned in the areas where a Marina Militare fleet is no longer present to ensure that shipping lane monitoring and protection and high seas security is not fully compromised, however the Ministry of Defence has admitted that "resources will be stretched thin until the fleets are able to return to the oceans with more robust cyber security.

The Cybernetic Operations Command (COC) is currently investigating the cyber attack and has provided evidence to the Ministry of Defence of a severe lack cyber security that was present in the Marina Militare to which the Ministry of Defence has announced an official government inquiry into the lack of oversight that allowed cyber security to be compromised on 5 of the Marina Militare's most important fleets. As well as this the COC is currently attempting to track down those who were responsible for the cyber attack and has so far ruled out action by another state, narrowing the search to international cyber crime groups and individuals.

Admiral Valter Girardelli, Chief of Staff of the Marina Militare, made a video address explaining the current situation to the public: Image

Foreign Companies Bring Investments to the Commonwealth

Earlier today the government announced that foreign companies had made a substantial series of investments into the Commonwealth. Australian company TransGen will be building a new shipyard in Kiwani Bay and has been commissioned to build 15 of the Venture Class frigates. On land a new high speed rail from Lusaka to Zanzibar will be constructed by Japanese companies along with three factories constructed by Helios III for smart phones. An AusGroup company, Holtz Construction, is building a regional corporate headquarters in Mzizima in order to further Australian economic interest in East Africa and aid the Commonwealth in future projects. Russia has begun to invest into the construction of several new factories as well as purchasing diamonds, gold, and silver form the EAC's mining sector. To help improve the supply of raw materials, San Martinia has invested in the EAC's mining sector to help develop the mining abilities of the Commonwealth. All of these new investments has caused a large upward trend for the economy which Rais Nuru called "A new Economic Age for the Commonwealth". These new investments coupled with the completion of the San Martinian funded HW-1 between Zanzibar and Afrika City and the restoration of the Lion of Africa Statue have caused many to speculate that the Commonwealth may end up being a real regional economic power in Africa.

The Navy Splits

Today the Navy announced that it would be breaking up into two new branches being the Coastal Patrol and the Amity Fleet. The Navy as it stood was in shambled with only 7 outdated ships and under 20,000 personnel the fleet needed a modernization. The decisions was made to make the navy two separate branches, one focused on home defense and the other focused on global actions. The Coastal Patrol was formed as the home fleet and the primary defensive measure for the Commonwealth to protect its waters and trade. The Coastal Patrol has been given funding for five new bases, 20,000 additional personnel, and a new fleet of 30 ships being 15 corvettes, 10 frigates, and 5 destroyers. The fleet will also be boasting a vessel capable of carrying aircraft but the funding for the vessel is not yet available. All of these vessels will be built in Japanese Shipyards thanks to recent talks between Japan and the Commonwealth. The Coastal Patrol will primarily escort vessels through Commonwealth Waters, fight piracy in East Africa, and be the primary line of defense at sea for the Commonwealth. Full readiness of the fleet is expected by mid 2028.

The Amity Fleet is the international arm of the Navy. This fleet currently only consists of the CV Venture, however, funding has been diverted to create 20 more of these vessels should the government feel that the ship is worth the investment. The Amity program as a whole is the idea of creating a fleet with the primary focus of aid, exploration, and diplomacy on the world stage. Each of the Venture Class vessels will operate in a specific area and represent the Commonwealth abroad. The Venture herself is slated to operate in the Mediterranean Sea as a test for this idea to see if it is practical. The ship will have three missions while conducting operations in the Med. The first is outreach by conducting humanitarian, first response, and goodwill missions across the med. The second will be diplomatic missions to conduct talks with leaders around the region to promote trade, stability, and cooperation. Lastly, the vessel is slated to conduct mapping and recovery missions along the coastline of Corsica, Sicily, Malta, Cyrus, and Crete. These missions will attempt to map the seabed and locate shipwrecks and other historical artifacts and possibly recover them for return to their country of origin. The ship currently needs a home port in the region and the government is looking into the possible nations to contact to host the vessel. Regardless, many look to the Amity program with curiosity as it could herald an age of discovery and outreach if successful, something many in Africa would support.

Maritime Self Defense Force making KeiCo develop new submarines

By SDF[Boei-gunボエイグン] Correspondent, Carrie Tanaka

Image

According to a recent leak from KeiCo Heavy Industries from a reliable resource, KeiCo, one of Bengal’s largest and most important civil-defense conglomerates, is in the process of developing a new submarine for the Maritime Self Defense Force.
According to a post on F2Chan from a self-proclaimed KeiCo employee who attended a presentation titled the Point Ro Man(.3マン) Submarine project, the submarine will be 3000 tonnes, and will integrate all the modern technology the MSDF has as of now, that includes state-of-the-art AI technology. He also revealed that the submarine will begin development in between 2025-2028(Yuuhi Year 3 to Year6), and its also estimated that R&D costs will be 80 Billion Ren(about 700 Million NAF$).

The Bengal Maritime Self Defense Force (which will change its name to the Kawa Maritime Self-Defense Force from next year to avoid naming conflict with a similar named organisation in the Mediterranean), is planning to increase its submarine fleet size to 25, plus 2 testing and 3 training subs). This increases the likeliness of maintaining a counterbalance with other naval powers in the region, most particularly Japan, which fledges several nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines that poses a threat to Bengal. For such as expansion, the 2023 and 2024 Defence budgets includes the funding required to upgrade and increase service life of older Asuka-Class submarines, which entered service in the early 2000s

'Say it ain't so, Marcelo:' Palveiro and Sousa square off in the first round debate, Special Counsel report takes center stage

Instant polls taken at the end of the event by television channels suggested that despite President Sara Palveiro managing a more measured performance than many had anticipated, voters were more impressed with former President Marcelo de Sousa. A poll by Opinion Research found 51% thought Sousa had performed best, with Palveiro taking 36% of respondents.

A survey of uncommitted voters found the split even more pronounced, with Marcelo de Sousa at 46%, Sara Palveiro at 21% and a relatively high proportion stating that neither had impressed or that they could not decide. When the uncommitted voters were pressed, 18% said they would vote for Marcelo de Sousa following the debate, with only 10% ready to line up for Sara Palveiro.

Another instant poll done by Journal de Noticias, which did not allow for such fence-sitting, had the divide between the two candidates at 61% for Sousa and 39% for Palveiro. However a focus group of independent voters gathered by LusoPolls, whose analyses in the 2019 election have proved influential in Portuguese politics in recent years, called the debate in favor of Sara Palveiro. Among the group, half of whom voted for the Aníbal Cavaco Silva in 2009, an overwhelmingly majority raised their hands to signal Sara Palveiro had won the debate when asked. While about a dozen said that Palveiro had changed their minds and that they would now support her, only one person in the group said he had changed his mind in support of Marcelo de Sousa.

The first round debate was divided into six segments, each of approximately 15 minutes in length, with the moderator introducing a topic and giving each candidate two minutes, followed by approximately 8 minutes and 45 seconds of facilitated discussion between the two candidates. Issues most discussed at the debate were Portugal's military operations in Galicia and terrorism, Portuguese-DEU relations, immigration, job creation, balancing Portugal's relationship with South America and Europe, the Supreme Court, taxation of the wealthy, "uniting the country," nuclear weapons, and the legitimacy of the election, were each the subject of two questions.

A number of issues were the subject of a single question, including expectations of race relations, gun policy, jobs in the energy industry, cyberterrorism, Islamophobia, the strengths of the candidates' opponents, the candidate's faith, the low favorability ratings of both candidates, the paid speeches given by Sousa, Palveiro's Twitter posts and the candidates' behavior.

Absent in the first round debate is independent candidate Eira Vento, who did not qualify for the presidential debate. The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Friday that both Frente Nacional nominee and Os Conservadores-endorsed Sara Palveiro and Left Coalition nominee Marcelo de Sousa had been invited to the debate but former Foreign Secretary Eira Vento was not. Both Palveiro and Sousa met the 15% polling threshold to qualify. Vento did not.

The release of the Special Counsel report on the Lisboa and Norte attacks on the eve of the first round debate however, left the first female president having to play defense as report took center stage. Up until the first round debate, Palveiro has successfully and strategically avoided discussing the Lisboa and Norte attacks and the Special Counsel report since impeachment talk came up after she notoriously dodged Parliament's approval for war, opting instead to call it an "extended military operation."

While Palveiro repeatedly claimed at the debates that the report “totally exonerated” her, it may be a stretch.

The 148-page report is split into two “volumes”: one chronicling the many ties between Palveiro’s administration and the terror network responsible for the Lisboa and Norte attacks, and another outlining 10 “episodes” where the Special Counsel deemed there was potential evidence of obstruction.

Here are the two main findings: First, while the Special Counsel found no criminal conspiracy between the President herself and the terrorists, it appears that members of the president's team did. Second, while the Special Counsel declined to recommend charges against Palveiro, it found several instances where the president tried to influence or shut down the investigation — obstructing justice in all but name.

No conspiracy, maybe collusion
Since the Special Counsel was created after the attacks, talk has centered on possible “collusion” between Palveiro’s administration and the terror perpetrators. However, “collusion” has no legal definition and isn’t a federal crime. “Conspiracy” is, though, so the Special Counsel looked into whether the administration purposefully worked to orchestrate the attacks or had any involvement in them.

The Special Counsel didn’t find evidence of that. But it did find several troubling interactions that seem collusion-y. Here are just a few examples:
  • Two Palveiro administration officials provided information to terror network 'middlemen'
  • Palveiro national security adviser Joao Bolsonaro, with Palveiro’s approval, purposefully neglected chatter a week ahead of the attacks
  • Bolsonaro begun making arrangements to frame Chico Manquinho five hours after Palveiro 'prayed that God send the communists to hell'
The report makes it clear that: 1) the elements of Palveiro's government knew of the attacks before they happened; 2) the Palveiro administration was eager to benefit from attacks; and 3) Bolsonaro had a lot of troubling ties to underground networks.

Possibly obstruction, but no charges
The Special Counsel examined 10 episodes where Palviero herself possibly obstructed justice during the investigation. Some of the most egregious examples:
  • Palveiro directed the Justice Minister to dismantle the Special Counsel, which the Justice Minister refused to do
  • Palveiro allegedly planned to force the Justice Minister to resign so she could appoint someone willing to curtail the investigation
  • Palveiro and her lawyers urged key figures (like Bolsonaro) to not waive executive privilege during the investigation
The Special Counsel purposely avoided coming to a conclusion on whether those individual acts — or the combination of them — qualified as criminal obstruction of justice. But nowhere did the report state that Palveiro didn’t obstruct justice, either. The report writes, “If there was confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, it would be stated.”

A spokesperson for the Special Counsel added that Palveiro’s
“efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to her requests.”
And the spokesperson also noted that
“Parliament has authority to prohibit a President’s corrupt use of his or her authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice.”

So it’s up to Parliament to decide what to do — which means this is all far from over.

The Special Counsel report has not delivered the damning blow that Sara Palveiro's opponents had expected, however. Palveiro has spent the last few months on defense against calls for her impeachment, but maintains a strong hold to her right-wing base, who has bought her argument that efforts to remove her from office before the election is all but a 'witch hunt' and a 'political scam.'

Mark Sanders's Conservatives Top Poll and Internal Conflict in the DSP; Embattled PM Barese Faces Tough Election

Over the last week, BSC News and The Carolina Gazette conducted a poll of citizens throughout the Alliance asking voters which party they would vote for in the next federal general election was held today. Here are their responses:

Conservative Party: 47.1%
Democratic-Socialist Party: 34.8%
Green Party: 11.2%
Libertarian Party: 4.4%
People's Party: 1.7%
All Carolina Party: 0.8%

The poll is yet another major political victory for the Conservatives, as they hold a definitive lead even with the DSP and Green coalition numbers combined. The poll also asked if the respondents approved of the Prime Minister, with PM Barese (DSP, Durham) having an approval rating of just 36%. While it is easy to point to Opposition Leader Mark Sanders (Con, Sampson) as the winner and Barese as the loser, perhaps the even bigger loser are third parties. Aside from the Greens, who have been in coalition with the DSP for the past 3 years, all remaining federal parties fail to break even 5%. But for as many threats as Berese's DSP have from the outside, the biggest threat may be from within as the major factions of the party feud.

Ever since the creation of the DSP by the merger of the leftist Socialist Party and the more moderate Democratic Party, the party's success has rested on the ability of the major groups to get along. This was made apparent early on. In the first election the new party stood in, the odds were stacked against them. The party was young and the term of the legendary Conservative Brian Ninjarino was coming to a close. The Conservatives were now lead by the charismatic John McCormic, who went on to be a popular two term PM in his own right. Despite this, the party did make gains in the election. However, several party higher ups were still dissatisfied, and blamed the loss on their young, moderate leader and replaced him. This controversial decision caused infighting, making the new leader seem even weaker and hurting the party electorally. That young leader was Fmr. Prime Minister David Rontley, who eventually retook his place as leader and lead the party to two consecutive landslide victories. Rontley was a member of the liberal (former Democratic) wing of the party, and was able to reconcile with the socialists. He remained popular throughout his term, and the transition to his successor, Gina Barese, should have been easy. Barese is a part of the socialist wing, and promised to continue progressing beyond the work of Rontley, including proposals such as free nationalized healthcare. However, several of her hallmark promises, particularly on healthcare, have been failures, prompting some to question her leadership.

This brings us to the present and MP Thomas Roberts (DSP, Spartanburg). Roberts, a liberal, has recently been vocally critical of Barese's leadership, calling her "incompetent" and a "threat to the progress we made under Rontley". Despite this, it seemed unlikely that he would pose any real threat to the PM until today. Earlier today, Roberts issued an ultimatum, that if Barese did not resign as leader of the DSP he would leave and form his own political party. With several other liberals being more quietly disgruntled with Barese possibly leaving with him, the move poses a serious question about the future of the party. Barese has been steadfast in remaining leader despite the troubles of her first term, claiming that she still has time to deliver. But such a move would certainly hurt her already damaged party, and with an election on the lines, it is not known if Barese would rather hold firm or resign for the sake of her party. Will this mark the end of the DSP, and end of an era in Carolinian politics? Only time will tell.

The Continental Standard

Long live Europa

Europe fails to reach consensus on refugee and asylum policy

A proposal aimed at ensuring that the DEU EIM would be equipped for any future potential migration crisis has failed due to the inability of the DEU Assembly to reach a consensus. A three-track division emerged before the debating time limit for the proposal expired, with Germany and the URT favoring a cap of 500,000 successful asylum claims per year, France favoring a cap of 750,000, and Russia arguing for no cap. Fundamentally unable to proceed without full compliance, the proposal was essentially dead in the water - a first for the Assembly as it still held a majority in favor at the time of it being withdrawn. The French delegation have expressed their regret that they were not able to successfully negotiate a compromise, given that the proposal had been the result of dialogue on the issue prior to it being submitted to the Assembly for voting. It is believed to be the first time that a French-authored policy proposal has failed to be implemented within the DEU. It is understood that French domestic policy reform will continue, however this has delivered a major blow to hopes of an announcement being made within the next six months at least. All DEU EIM members reserve the right to suspend freedom of movement in times of genuine crisis, and so the failure of the cap system should make no difference to the integrity of the common external border policy; while it would have prevented migrants from taking measures into their own hands and attempting to make dangerous crossings to Europe at great personal risk, prevention of illegal migration within the EIM remains guaranteed in spite of the proposal's failure.

Diana Gonzalez gives personal statement, recounts kidnapping
February 18,2023 | Jessica Nate Sanchez
Image
Diana Gonzalez walks out of the press room to meet her waiting family.
Ms. Gonzalez had not seen her family for nearly a month.

BALABAC CITY - About 4 months since she was kidnapped after finishing some work with her collegue before the day break of November 1, 2023, Diana Gonzales had to face multiple surgical procedures, rehabilitation therapies, and police investigators for several weeks. Details from said interrogations have been completely classified and even Ms. Gonzalez' family has been kept away from her until now.

In her first-ever press conference since she was rescued from a car chase incident in A1 Highway, Diana Gonzalez alongside police detectives and officers gave her personal statement regarding the events that unfolded during the 8 days that she was abducted. Several news agencies in and outside of Balabac to cover the press conference, with thousands in Balabac tuning in to the television coverage:

Ms. Gonzalez talked about what had happened during the night she was kidnapped, why she was at Ms.Ramos' apartment that late at night and what she last remembered before being gagged by the kidnappers. She cried through her statement of how the kidnappers physically and sexually abused her constantly during the 8 days she was held captive and how she had to live in order to tolerate the dire circumstances, she also talked about how she wanted to have just committed suicide,
[They] hit me now and then, gagged me, raped me, cut me. I thought, [sob] w-wh-what d-did I do to deserve t-this fate?[sob] I h-had to sleep on a floor of a worn-down barn where they locked me up. I drank...water from a bowl li-like a....d-dog...[sob]I ate the leftovers... I wanted to die right at that moment...I didn't want to live anymore... but I had to...

Ms. Gonzalez also talked about the conversations she heard from her perpetrators and how they moved camps,

When I woke up I was in a barn or old house, there were no windows so I couldn't see outside...They looked like Latino men, there were some Asian looking persons, but they spoke Filipino from what I could remember...I would be woken up every night, beaten up then gagged and then placed inside a car or big van with my mouth and hands tied tight.

I am not sure but we moved to an edge of a town first, then we headed west...yes because the sun was rising from the east at that time of the early morning, then they blindfolded me and the next thing I know I was inside a large warehouse, I lost track of days. They locked me up in a car trunk in the last few days...

When confronted with the question, "Do you have any idea why your Filipino kidnappers kidnapped you for?"

I dont know. I dont know. Why would I have ANY idea at ALL!?

When told about the Balabac Crisis and the rebellion that that happened soon after her kidnapping

I did not want anything of that to happen. I think it happened because it happened. I don't want to talk about anything political, all I want is for us residents to be able to go home safely.

After this statement, the police detectives sitting beside Ms. Gonzalez announced that all questions for Ms. Gonzalez were now over. Ms. Gonzalez was then escorted by police officers to her family waiting in the other room. Soon afterwards BIP Chief Ronald McConnell made a last statement to the press before officially closing the conference.

As you all know, we are very much happy that we were able to rescue Ms. Gonzalez from her kidnappers. Unfortunately, we have now deduced that her kidnapping does in fact have a connection to the crisis and rebellion that followed soon after. Our detectives now have confirmed leads to suggest that Ms. Gonzalez was kidnapped by hired Filipino and San Martinian gangs on the behalf of individuals, whose names are still classified.

It is now safe to say that Australian police personnel were not involved in her kidnapping in whatever way as many thought so before the crisis. We are however open to the possibility that outside parties would have been involved but we are yet to find more evidence and leads. That will be all, thank you.

PM Itai Announces Andoushima(Andaman) development plan in Legislative Council. Relations may sour with India

By Staff Correspondent, Daniel Yomuri

Today, the government made a staunch reply to the Andaman Question. The island chain in the Bay of Bengal is known internationally as the Andaman Islands, and is also claimed by British India. However, in Bengal, its known as Andoushima, and is seen as rightfully Kawanese territory. The island chain is larger than the Maldives, yet is merely populated by hostile tribals who are not accustomed to modern technology at all. No one knew what to do with the islands, until recently as Prime Minister Suzuha Itai answered Bengal’s plans for the island.

The island chain has been laying there for long, and has been claimed by both India and Bengal. However, no one dared to settle on it since the British Retreat of 1969. But, according to what I see, its time to cement Bengali administration and sovereignty over the islands. We must make a compromise over here. I propose that we make a thriving community in the islands, exploit its economic location to its full potential, while protecting the natives and their way of life.

After her statement regarding her government’s plans for the islands, an MLC(Member of the Legislative Council) of the opposition Democratic Party asked if the Itai government was planning to do a “cultural genocide” of the natives in the long run. To which Itai replied that “it will be up to the natives to decide to establish a peaceful first contact”.

A member of the National Environmentalist League asked her about protection of endangered species of plants and animals on the islands. She replied that “national parks will be made around the native reservations and endangered species will be protected fully.” But she also said that ecological imbalance may take place.

One of the 10 members of the left wing minority party, the People’s Party of Bengal gave a speech on Bengal embarking on “Imperialsm” with the “conquest” of the islands, to which everyone turned a deaf ear, and the PPB members walked out of LegCo, as usual.

However, the question remains, who will populate the islands? And another question, what will the British, who also claim sovereignty the islands as a part of their territory think?

AKADESU :So sad this country is taking its first steps towards imperialism. Wasn't losing the Diego Garcian War enough for us?
/TinyBuff : The Liberal Democrat government is pro-British, and some of their MLCs actually advocate for return to colonial rule. I am sure that we are going to go through this purely by negotiations with the UK

An Improved Commonwealth

When the Commonwealth formed over a year ago many questioned its ability to govern an underdeveloped land with a diverse population spread out on the vast African Savannah. The country lacked access to fresh water, a basis for transportation, medical care, a modern military, and almost any industry. In the past year incredible progress has been made across the Commonwealth thanks to the New Africa Initiative. 70% of the population now have access to fresh drinking water and 80% now have a reliable food source. Roads such as HW-1 have allowed ease of access to the major business sectors within the nation and have allowed supplies to be more easily shifted to regions in need. Hybrid Airships from E-Tech have allowed regions that were once isolated from all aid to now receive supplies and medical treatment, something unthinkable a year ago. Thanks to Canada the Defense Forces have now been properly trained and armed and stand proudly as one of the prime fighting forces on the African Continent. Investment from the international community have caused a massive boom in every field from mining and shipbuilding to technology and agriculture. It is an understatement to say that the Commonwealth has succeeded beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

However, the EAC is by no means slowing down this development. Additional roads with water and power systems built in tangent with them are being planned to reach deep into the EAC's isolated regions. In cities hospitals and schools are rising alongside skyscrapers and factories. Talks of building a nuclear power plant could result in complete energy independence for the power grid and the elimination of a carbon footprint. The armed forces are receiving a massive funding to build a modern Navy and Air Force to back the Army. The Commonwealth is set to continue at its current pace of growth or even exceed it by the start of 2025. After a year the Lion of Africa still stands as the would-be power of Africa.

Venture Departs Zanzibar

Early this morning the CV Venture slipped her moorings in Zanzibar and began to push North toward the Suez Canal. For the first time an EAC vessel is heading beyond the nation's waters to represent the Commonwealth abroad. The Venture is heading toward the Mediterranean Sea to its new home port of Syracuse in Italy where it will begin a five year mission of representing the Commonwealth in the Med. The ship's first batch of missions will involve testing equipment off of Sicily such as sonar mapping systems and asset launching operations. Once this is done the vessel will be conducting a large scale seabed scan off of Syracuse for a month to locate shipwrecks and plot any bottom hazards for the Italian Government. There is also a proposal for a EAC-Roman summit on the vessel but nothing has been formally planned as of yet. The vessel is expected to arrive in Syracuse on April 6th and have vessel tours until the 9th for the local population for outreach events.
