DRC Update 10: Stalemates in the South, slaughter in the North

The DRC Civil War has stalled out somewhat, with only the TDA regaining land they lost and ICC still slowly chipping away at the SRC. The ICC made a bold move and decided to try and rip more land away from the TDA. However the TDA is proving to be stubborn and pushed back against the ICC, regaining the land they lost from their previous battle. Despite this, the ICC then launched an attack on the SRC and countied to push the SRC down. It is believed the SRC is trying to hold a defensive position while it deals with the war in the south and thus have not pushed back against the ICC since the HDMC became a legitimate threat. It remains to be seen how the SRC will react, now facing enemies on both sides that have proven they can go toe to toe with them.

On the HDMC and SRC front, a dramatic battle took place. CSN observes are reporting this battle may have the highest death count of the war, with somewhere between 500-1500 soliders dead(totaled from both sides). The HDMC was able to push the back line of SRC troops back into Angola and began pushing the front lines away. However, a two pronged attack attempted to cut the HDMC front line off came from the SRC and another part of Angola. Though the HDMC was guarding the border it was almost overun before HDMC troops pushed back the SRC troops. From the SRC side, the SRC where able to push but where repelled back repeatedly. Though they did not accomplish their intended goal, the HDMC made very little land gain, in that its almost negligible. Both armies have exhausted themselves and obviously need time to rest but it unclear if one side will let the other gain footing.

Military Training Progresses

In the nearly three months time since the Canadian Advisors arrived to help train and supply the Commonwealth Armed Forces (CAF) there has been a major progress made in modernizing the military. Of the ten divisions within the CAF two have now been fully drilled in modern war and their commanders have been conducting war games with Canadian oversight. Troops have been specifically trained in both jungle and guerilla combat to better understand how to fight in the current wars plaguing Africa. The other 8 Divisions are still in the process of training and only about 10% of military equipment has been modernized but Rais Nuru has still praised the Canadians for their "Effectiveness and efficiency". The government is also in talks with the military on if the military's mission should be self defense only or response to threats within Africa, though many wish to see the state of the army once the Canadians have fully drilled its divisions in another year or so.

Africa First Movement Growing

The EAC is a diverse nation with millions from different background, cultures, and religions. However, there has been a growing movement that has been appealing to all across the EAC and Africa as a whole, Africa First. Coined following Rais Nuru's speech during the re-founding of the EAC, Africa First is the viewpoint that Africans should hold their people and culture above politics, ideology, and economics While some see the movement as a chance to raise awareness for the poor conditions within Africa, others see it as the third path in Africa and a way out of the Cold War that has grasped the continent. There is a few radical elements who wish to see the EAC intervene in any war in Africa to protect African interests but this group is a very small minority. Most simply wish for Africa to have a voice and to stand up to global exploitation of the Continent. So far the movement has popular support within the EAC but there is no word on the movement outside the nation's borders.

Etienam Technologies Founded

Africa and the EAC are a lot of things, but technologically advanced is not one of them. Africa has always been lacking in technological innovation, it was one of the reasons the Continent fell quickly to Imperialism and why the EAC had been able to survive the Scramble for Africa. To solve this a man by the name of Terek Etienam has decided to create Africa's first large scale company focused on technological innovation: Etienam Technologies. While currently occupying a small lab and 10 acre facility just outside of Mzizima, under the 28 year old Terek Etienam the company has a very promising future. Terek Etienam's father owned a small repair shop and his mother repaired computers to put food on the table. For much of his young life, Etienam lived in the lower class with his parents fighting to pay for bills each week but when he entered the school system things changed. He was hailed as a young genius, by age 14 had graduated from High School all while helping his mother fix computers and his father build cars. At age 19 he graduated from Mzizima University with a dual masters in Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering and was the top of his class. This helped him receive attention from MIT which he would successfully apply to the following year. Four years later he received a PHD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was regarded as one of the universities top students in the field.

Etienam then returned home to Mizizma, turning down offers to work for larger European and NAF companies. His reasoning for this is unknown, but the poor health of his father may have been a factor. The following year Etienam invented and patented a small low cost refracting solar generator that both provided 4,000 watts of and purified water with the refracting mirrors. In a nation where clean water and reliable power was scarce the sales of the generator exploded and over the last four years Etienam has been creating invention after invention meant to improve the lives of people within his country. Now, with the formation of the East African Commonwealth, Etienam has decided to officially create his own company and develop technologies to help all of Africa. In an Interview yesterday he stated this:

...all I want is for the people within my country to be happy and to live in a place where they don't have to worry about power or water. I want the EAC to be an example of how technology can be used to improve a country, not just exist alongside it. I may have started with a small generator, but now I am looking at everything from phones to aerospace, cars to televisions. I want to make this company something truly unique that can do my country proud.

DRC Update 11: SRC regains lost ground

The SRC proved it is still a force to be reckoned with as it took on both the ICC and HDMC once again and in two major battles, was able regain lost land. Once more the ICC made an ill fated attack on the TDA and suffed because of it as the TDA line held against the onslaught. This battle was very close and similar to the fight between the HDMC and SRC a few weeks ago, destructive for both sides. However, the ICC's luck ran out as the SRC was able to push back and push out the ICC terrorists, moving across the river and regaining land they had previously held.

All eyes however where on the the SRC's and HDMC's battle and unlike the last one, this one was completely uneven. Despite efforts to help the local poulace and create local militias to help contain the SRC rebels within their territory and despite uncanny knowledge of the SRC's movements within the Angloan's Borders(suspected to being aided by satellite intel), the HDMC's line was crushed and push all the way back, loosing much of its gain over the SRC. This is due to the fact the SRC is getting support from SAR rebels who are disengaging from the CAR Civil War and are heading to aid what they believe is a more winnable war in the DRC. The sudden extra man power surpised the HDMC troops and lead to massive losses. Is the HDMC's streak over or will they return with a vengeance?

Lionsguard Established

In the wake of increasing tensions on the borders of the EAC in both the DRC and Zimbabwe, the government has created a new peacekeeping branch of the military labeled the Lionsguard. This force will have its members selected from the army as individuals with 'Integrity, morality, and diplomacy' to act as both a diplomat and a soldier. The military feels that given Africa's current state that there must be individuals able to both talk to locals as well as defend them rather then using a heavy had like both Europe and the FSR have traditionally had in the region. Currently, this force numbers 500 strong with a few military assets such as armored vehicles and utility helicopters. The force is set to be deployed on the DRC's border region later this month.

Etienam Technologies Prepares Airship

Logistics is something that currently plagues most of the EAC. Towns and cities lack constant access to food, water, and fuel and emergency services are usually non-existent in some regions. Etienam Technologies has prepared a unique, and unconventional, solution to this problem: hybrid airships. While many question the use of such a craft Etienam himself addressed any concerns at a press conference today in front of the hanger under construction:

....While many think of the Hindenburg disaster when it comes to airships, many need to keep in mind that was nearly 90 years ago now. Since then technology and aerospace engineering has improve drastically. For a nation such as the Commonwealth the airship has the ability to supply goods quickly. It has a unique cushion based landing system that allows it to land on and flat area or body of water and it will be able to carry 16 passengers and 20 tons of supplies. There is no need to build a runway or landing strips, only flat spaces are needed, something that Africa has no shortage of. The craft is also very cheap to operate compared to airplanes and helicopters, especially since the EAC is one of the few nations with a home based access to helium. The economics make sense, and so does the job. We can ship out supplies, equipment, even doctors and firefights to areas in crisis. The military could even use this for border patrol if they deemed it fit. I am not saying this will replace planes, but for a nation with little infrastructure this craft is exactly what we need right now.

New Vessel Under Construction

The government has announced today that 1.2 billion dollars over the next three years will be allocated for a new vessel that will be representing Africa and the Commonwealth. This new ship, currently designated XV-01, will be built and designed by the state owned Commonwealth Dockyards in Mzizima over the next three years. The official laying of the keel of the ship began today at the the newly finish Mzizima Drydock to a crowd of onlookers celebrating the first ship to be built by the Commonwealth. However, the government has yet to state what the purpose of the vessel is. It has been confirmed that it is neither a trade vessel or a warship but the funds placed into it clearly indicate that the vessel has a large investment placed into it. Currently, the government will not comment on the matter other then that fact that the vessel will "Be the Face of Africa".

Former President Salamanca Crusades Against the Media

Image
12/05/2023 - 19:23 Clarin.com | Politics |

Former President Salamanca, who was succeeded by current President Sánchez two years ago, recently began lambasting what she called the "biased media," mentioning by name some of the nation's largest newspapers, including Clarín and La Nación. She claimed they had written and published various articles of slander against her and politicians of similar political orientation in an attempt to influence public opinion against her as part of an orchestrated coup against her government.

She claimed that, due to the news companies' right-wing orientation and, in Clarín's case, status as a large media conglomerate, they had a vested interest in getting her out of office. She also accused them of, in addition to slander, publishing half-truths or lies in order to continue negative coverage of her government. The two companies in turn offered statements that reaffirmed their desire for nonbiased journalism and also served as a dedication to freedom of the press and free speech.

Politicians loyal to her in the National Congress then proceeded to propose bills affecting the licenses of Clarín, the largest media conglomerate in Latin America, claiming that Clarín was becoming monopolistic in several markets. The bills caused a rift between the political coalition that catapulted Salamanca to power, exemplifying a difference between Salamanca's populist rhetoric and other centre-left and left-wing ideologies.

President Sánchez called such statements dangerous to free speech and noted that Salamanca had no corresponding qualms about left-leaning news companies such as El Mercurio. He called the failed bills attempts to selectively suppress the media and infringements upon the field of journalism. A politician of Salamanca's National Party in turn called Clarín's large size as one of the biggest threats to journalism, as it "suppressed independent journalists."

DRC Update 12: ICC loses more ground, SRC and HDMC rematch

The DRC war goes on. After the stunning events of the last few battles, things have mostly calmed down and infact even appear to be copying what happened a few months ago that lead to the explosive battles of the last two months. First the ICC once again failed to push back the TDA despite a close battle. It is being thought the ICC may try to push back the TDA one more time and if it fails, put all of their focus on the SRC. The ICC did attack the SRC but the SRC was able to blow through and push up further in their territory, now having retaken all of the ground lost to the ICC after the defeat of the HCA.

However on the southern front, the rematch with the HDMC went the way it did a few months ago. Despite loosing badly in their last battle, supplies have begun to pour in from French and German benefactors, adding to Canada's already impressive commitment. This now brings the SRC and HDMC on more even ground and it showed this week and the HDMC once again pushed back the SRC forces, forcing naother standoff as the HDMC looks to reclaim lost ground and then push even further. It remains to be seen how this will go with the ICC no longer pushing the SRC as well.

Lower House Election results come in. Liberal Democrats, under the leadership of Suzuha Itai win by a landslide

By Election Correspondent, Narutani Kei

Supporters of the Liberal Democratic Party have taken the streets to celebrate today after the election results for the House of Representatives were announced. According to the press release by NDEC(National Diet Election Commision) , the Liberal Democratic Party has gained 140 seats of the 350 membered House of Representatives, which is elected on a per seat basis for 150,000 voters.
The House of Representatives, the Lower legislative house of the Nation Diet proposes laws and bills, and provides the Prime Minister as well as some of the Cabinet Ministers of the nation. House of Representatives election results also help predict the results of the National Council, the upper house, which is elected on a per electoral district basis.
The right wing National Party of Bengal has lost a tremendous amount of seats during this year’s elections. Seen by many as an aftermath of the Orostani Railway Construction Scandal, as well as the arrest of former party president and Prime Minister Suguhara and other members of the party on corruption charges.
Suzuha Itai will be sworn in as Prime Minister by the Mikado following the Upper House elections 3 days later, which the Liberal Democrats are expected to win, if the election predictions are based on the Lower House results.
The Liberal Democratic Party is known for its pro-social welfare stance, as well as the full on nationalization of the health service and important necessities to maintain effective government price control, as well as better accessibility to commodities and services. Like the National Party, it’s also known for its pro-European/Anti-Orostani stance, and it also advocates for an expansion of the Self-Defense Forces, as well as reinterpretation of Article 9/ the Peace Clause of the constitution.

Send her to The Ranch

Postby Grandes Terres » Wed May 15, 2019 10:16 am

19th May 2023

Ministry of the Interior establishes 90 'Ranches' for troubled teens to help reduce youth crime rates

Today the Interior Minister, Enrico Letta, announced that a new government-run programme called 'The Ranch' has been launched. The programme includes redeveloping 90 ranches across rural Italy in order to create accommodation for 'troubled teens'. The ranches have been specifically designed for teens who show criminal or disorderly tendencies but have not yet been convicted or found guilty of committing any specific crime (meaning they have not already been sent to a youth detention and rehabilitation centre by a judge in court). Parents can sign up their teens to the ranch for a small fee subsidised by the government, where they will be contractually obligated to live for a year (with Christmas and Easter spent at home) with extensions granted if parents wish. Parents will also have the power to terminate the contract at any time but this will incur a fine.

This preemptive method to youth crime aims to reduce crime rates and rehabilitate those who have disorderly tendencies. Students will in dorms and will be provided will full-board eating arrangements and a small allowance to spend in local towns. Alongside accommodation they will carry on with their education as normal at the ranch itself, which will include a high school. Students will also learn how to work the ranches farm, working the vineyards to produce wine and rearing livestock to be sold at the local markets (this will contribute towards covering the costs of each ranch) to give students first hand experince of hard, manual work to help mature the students. In their free time students will learn how to ride the ranches horses, take long hikes and participate in water sports at the lake that will be artificially built at each Ranch.

It is hoped that by experince hard work, education and fun the students will take home with them a new outlook on life, will change their ways and contribute to society positively. Places at different ranches across Italy will also be avalible to parents from any other DEU countries and internationally at full price to help further cover the costs of the 90 ranches. The Ministry of the Interior predicts that once fully operational and at full capacity each ranch will be able to make a small profit with fees and product sales combined. Any profits made by a ranch will be reinvested into the ranch to help with expansion.

Libya is Reborn!

ALL HAIL THE UNITED COMMONWEALTH OF SEGENTAEA

After the death of Gaddafi, his second in command, ethnic Segen - Kaspar Vydesbourne - took control. At Gaddafi’s funeral, Vydesbourne made this comment…

"I know that this is a sad time for the country, but I will bring Gaddafi’s true dream to life. A country with Libyans and Segens united and free, with true liberty and prosperity for all."

After the televised funeral, riots broke out in the capital of Tripoli, (now named New Glusagos) with ethnic Libyan extremist group, Libyan Liberation League, (LLL), causing half a billion Novacs worth of damage, resulting in the death of 458, and the arrest of 7, including the leader of the LLL, Farsi al-Sutani, who was put to death last Saturday.

After the riots, Vydesbourne made a televised speech saying…

"The LLL does not realize that their damage only unifies Libya even more now. We will be one country, now and forever, whether a Segen or a Libyan is in charge.”

Riots also broke out in Tunisia, where ethnic divides there reached a breaking point, almost to the point of war.

"Tunisia has ethnic Segens living across it’s maritime border. We will assure their safekeeping in these tumultuous times" Vydesbourne said, "Libya will be reborn because of it."

Today in a ceremony, Vydesbourne had said that the recent legislation to Westernize the country marked the new beginning of Libya. He held a scroll out to a crowd of 56,000 at the President’s Manor that said, ‘Libya is no longer, all hail Segentaea.’

Vydesbourne later said that the westernization of Libya is what Segens want, and Libyans will soon realize it’s benefits.

"This is more than a simple name change, it is a roadmap for the tough times ahead, and a sign of prosperity. This is what Gaddafi wanted."

LLL leader Omar Salim Mohammed bin Qazar stated in a cryptic video posted of YouTube soon after the announcement…

"This means war, Libyans will have our land, and those who don’t comply will burn like the hot desert they claim is theirs."

At the flag adoption ceremony, Vydesbourne said that "the LLL is a terrorist force that will be stomped. Segentaea is for all people and they are too blind to see."

Segentaea intends to join the DEU later this year.

DRC Update 13: Familiar Patterns

The DRC Civil War has now officially hit a standstill. The SRC and ICC where the victors today despite suffering losses while the HDMC is the biggest looser, despite it attempts to up the playing field. First the ICC launched its usual attack at the TDA and while it looked like the ICC was going to win, the TDA once again was able to push the radicalists back. This has reportedly infuriated the ICC upper command but they have decided to pour all their strength into combating the SRC after loosing ground to them. And despite limited supplies for the attack, the ICC was able to regain ground against the socialist force and push them back down.

In the south, the HDMC revived further help, this time from Argentinian and Danubian supplies and support militias. This did not help them in the blood bath to follow. They launched a massive attack on the SRC lines that utterly failed. The SRC army, while smaller in this case, was able to punch a hole right through the HDMC line and force them all the way, leaving them disorganized and weakened for awhile. Its unknown how the HDMC ended up so badly beaten but many suspect its on over reliance on foreign militias rather then supply lines, something the SRC has focused on with only limited militia help. The HDMC will need to push back next week or they will be pushed further then the SRC has ever pushed them before. Its been said the SRC army has high morale after this attack and is ready to continue the push.

Love Wins | Lusophone Republic

Postby Lusophone » Fri May 17, 2019 11:13 am

Love Wins in Lusophone | New York Times Translated from original English to Portuguese
There are many reasons to find fault with contemporary Lusophone. Normalized far-right sentiments. The rise of Catholic extremists obsessed with demonizing Muslims. A new political system that doesn’t address these challenges.

So the recent groundbreaking decision of country’s newly politically appointed Supreme Court to legalize same sex marriage, allow same sex couples adoption and to overturn a century long ban on consensual gay sex was a welcome affirmation of human dignity (and part of Palveiro’s rebranding of her Frente Nacional party.)

Image

The law, under which thousands were prosecuted and were imprisoned for up to 10 years, was “irrational, indefensible and manifestly arbitrary,” the Chief Justice wrote.

Significantly, though, the court went beyond the specific question of gay sex by emphasizing the broader concept of the humanity of L.G.B.T. people and the constitution’s responsibility to protect individual rights and dignity. The court even apologized for Lusophine society’s past mistreatment of gay people.

Image

Celebrations all over Lusophone have erupted after this landmark ruling on gay rights. The ruling brings to an end more than a decade of bitter legal battles that left many with uncertainty. The Supreme Court's judgement in many ways, reflect a huge societal shift of the last twenty years. Crucially, the majority ruling argues that the court has frequently exercised jurisdiction over the definition of marriage in previous cases and is not overstepping its constitutional role by intervening now.

In what may prove the most important civil rights case in a generation, the new justices determined that the right to marriage equality was enshrined under the equal protection clause of the Lusophine constitution.

Segen Expansion

Postby Segentaea » Sat May 18, 2019 5:17 am

The United Commonwealth Courier

Vydesbourne Announces New Programs

Today, in an interview with SNN, a news network based out of Alphanne, Segentaea, President Kaspar Vydesbourne is delivering on his promises by announcing new programs.

"So, we are going to announce, well I guess I’ll announce it now (haha). So we’re going to open a space agency, um, first of all. So we have that and we’re going to be expanding the military, specifically the Navy and the Army. A large part of those two branches is just basic military, but with the increase of terrorism in our country, we are introducing a Military Police part of both of those, um, branches. The Army will have the Military Police and the Navy will have the Coastal Police. With this, we will be forming an Air Force and making massive expansions within that field."

This announcement comes as no surprise as the process of westernism has been announced by Vydesbourne multiple times.

1818 Battalion arrives in SRC

The 1818 Battalion of the International Socialist Brigades have landed in the Socialist Republic of the Congo. The directive was made by Chairman Jose Maleravez, a devout military-man and communist. The 1818 Battalion is a force of a few thousand, Puertollanoan-majority volunteers who signed up for the International Socialist Brigades during its inception. This will be the first time the fighting force has seen a war since the re-construction of the organisation and the creation of structural units and system of hierarchy. The 1818 Battalion is named after the year in which the Spanish colonialists were expelled from Puertollano by the Liberator, Simon Bolivar. The symbolism is that the 1818 Battalion will do the same with the neo-colonialists in Africa, by expelling the European-backed forces. While the ISB and the 1818 Battalion do not have any connections to the Bolivarian Republic, it is an open secret that they do receive nominal training and supplies from the Puertollanoan government. The 1818 Battalion (once arriving in Kinshasa, the capital) will travel to the front with the ICC forces. With their greater training and armaments, they are hoping to lead the next advance against the far-right Islamists. This is happening while Puertollanoan doctors still operate throughout the SRC, including in military hospitals for injured socialist soldiers. The Puertollanoan embassy in Kinshasa is proudly bearing the flag of the Bolivarian Republic, while distributing humanitarian aid through its doors.

Segentaea Commits to Italian Partnership

Kaspar Vydesbourne met with Italian leaders this week in order to set some things straight. Vydesbourne has lit the green light to continue the Italian Military facility in southern Segentaea. They will be allowed to train there and conduct practices as long as Segen forces can participate in practices with them. This comes after talks about a Segen naval base in Sicily fell through. Italy and Segentaea have also bonded to fight the Libyan Revolutionaries and the Libyan Liberation League, the two groups being terrorist cells within Segentaea trying to over through the region. The LR have been trying to install a socialist state in Segentaea from when Gaddafi was still alive. The two groups have reportedly bonded together to destroy the new government. Italy has vowed to finish the job and will be attacking the terrorists with cyber tactics and Segentaea will attack them on the ground. The terrorist group will be going by the name LRLLL.

Segen Oil Businesses Flourishing

Multiple oil fields in Segentaea have been recently tapped into. To celebrate, the Segen government has decreased the oil tax from 30% to 20% for the rest of the month, allowing Segen businesses to keep their oil for a little longer. The Segen government has prompted to seek buyers for their premium oil as soon as possible.

Segentaea Begins Construction of Space Headquarters

Kaspar Vydesbourne has okayed the construction of the SNSA (Segen National Space Agency) HQ located in Harefoot, Segentaea, 25 miles from the Mediterranean coast. The building will feature mission control, a rocket building center, a meeting center, a launch pad, and multiple satellite dishes to track Segen missions. Vydesbourne has stated that they will be working around the clock to finish the center as soon as possible. In an interview with The United Commonwealth Courier, the newly appointed head of the SNSA, Marco Pandakay said that he was "ecstatic" and that he "cannot sing enough praises to [Kaspar] Vydesbourne and what he is doing to our wonderful country". Construction is expected to finish in 3 months, and the first project to be launched is to be expected near the end of the year.

First Battleships Built

The Segen Navy has built it’s first five ships, five Durand de la Penne-class destroyers. The Naval prefix for all Segen Military Ships will be "SV", standing for Segen Vessel. The names of the battleships will be as follows,
- SV Muammar al-Gaddafi
- SV Kaspar Vydesbourne
- SV New Glusagos
- SV Commonwealth
- SV Mediterranean
The ships will begin patrolling Segen waters in test operations in two days.

World - FSR - Andea - Politics - Business - Opinion - Tech - Science - Health - Sports - Other

Work Begins on San Lorenzo Megaproject

Today the National Industrial Board approved to invest $12 billion dollar on building an infrastructure hub on the island of San Lorenzo in Callao. When completed the island will contain a huge air, naval, and terrestrial port. The terrestrial port will be linked to the mainland by a four-mile underwater tunnel, which would be able to be used by both automobiles and trains. From there it would take an already existing rail path to Pucallpa, in which afterward cargo could be shipped through the Amazon River network, giving it direct access to the Atlantic. The project will be built in phases and is expected to take seven years to finish. But once it does, it'll be the largest port in South America, and in fact the only mega port in the continent.

San Lorenzo Island has a strategic location in the middle west coast of South America, with easy access to Asia, North America, and Oceania. Thus it'll likely serve as a major logistical hub in the region. The news of this project has also coincided with the establishment of a free-trade agreement with Pacifica. However, the main focus of the project has been on Asia, a region which has been a key commercial interest for the FSR - particularly with growing Sino-FSR trade.

San Lorenzo is located near Lima, the capital of Andea and the second largest city in South America. This and its strategic connection to the rest of South America has made the project subject to much interest of Asian airliners as Andea is the only nation in South America accessible on a non-stop flight from Asia. The airport along with the naval port will require swathes of flat land to be built on, something not currently present on the island. Due to this land reclamation will need to occur in order to construct the ports, though the terrestrial port will not require such measures.

In order to cut down on labor costs, many areas such of the project including port facilities will be largely automated, an area which the FSR has been gaining increasing experience with as of recently. Digressing from the topic, the focus on automation has been a political issue in the past, with Congress typically advocating using it to reduce working hours while the NIB has traditionally preferred to use it to free up labor for other sectors. Taking advantage of rising global tensions, the NIB successfully pushed for changing the 35 hour work week to a 40 hour work week. Abel Rubio, one of the representatives backing the change justified his position by saying that FSR was involved in a struggle for its very survival and needed to make sacrifices to prevail. While the overall opinion in Congress has been negative to skeptical to the NIB's reform, the Green Front almost unanimously denounced the move, and the party as a whole promised to focus on reverting such changes should they win the next elections.

Back to San Lorenzo, it is expected that there will be a large amount of commercial activity on the island. Due to this many offices and hotels will be built in order to accommodate projected demand, as it's expected that much commercial negotiation will occur there, sorta transforming the island into a quasi-commercial center. According to various inside sources, members of the Socialist Party has also been pushing for cooperatives enterprises to be allowed more leeway within San Lorenzo, though it's unclear how it'll end up. Regardless of that, the building process itself will be subject to careful urban planning, and many talented architectures have been recruited with the intentions of building the island as a "model megalopolis." With local nature attractions, it's also hoped that the island could be turned into a tourist hub in the future. Needless to say, the success of San Lorenzo could prove pivotal for Lima's future.

DRC Update 14: Total War

A massive battle took place in the DRC today, another showdown between the HDMC and SRC. Before that however, the ICC decided to go all in on the SRC battlefront, electing to ignore the TDA for now. They paid for that mistake however and their army was thrashed, being smashed by the SRC defensive line. The weakened ICC army retreated but the SRC army didn't follow, seemingly deciding to wait till the war with the HDMC is over before moving on to them. Instead it the SRC seems to be moving into lawless territory, gobbling up as much as it can and seemingly attempting to link up with the TDA.

Meanwhile, high off it recent victory, the SRC went in for another hit against the HDMC. Empowered by new supplies from Iberia and high morale, the socialist army hit a wall as the Canadian Militas left over the Zimbabewe war came to help reinforce the line. The massive battle was almost another stalemate, with heavy losses on both sides, with a large chunk of the Canadian militia KIA but providing the overwhelming numbers to push the SRC back and regain a very small portion of land. The heavy losses on both sides is expected to take a toll on both sides in their next battle as they attempt to rebuild their lines.

Operation Ubangi

The French Confederation has launched an offensive against ICC forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in retaliations for raids against the humanitarian supply operations underway near Bangui. Crossings are made across the Ubangi river at five main sites - Libenge, Zongo, Gbadolite, Gele, and Sidi by means of bailey bridges and amphibious craft flown in to the CAR from Algeria. Operation Ubangi will be aimed at swiftly capturing these beach-heads, and then moving to eliminate all terrorist presence within Nord-Ubangi province and some territory within Sud-Ubangi north of Gemena. Confederation aircraft operating in the CAR also join in, providing close air support to the initial landings if heavily resisted and then following the 25,000-strong ground force. This intervention in the DRC Civil War is intended to be a swift affair, so speed of the advance will be emphasized.

Other news: France "will sign Afrika City Accords following end of CAR war."

A Nail in the Coffin | Lusophone Republic

Postby Lusophone » Tue May 21, 2019 11:20 am

The Last Nail in the Coffin of Lusophine Democracy| Vox Translated from original English to Portuguese
Lusophone’s new Supreme Court, appointed by the Frente Nacional, has ruled in favor of a passed law that has not been implemented for two years now, due many legal battles. Making no mention of the values of democracy and rights for minorities, the highly controversial law serves to define the nature of the Lusophone Republic, with critics slamming it as the "nail in the coffin" of Lusophine democracy.

Branded the “Lusophine Identity law,” the law declares that the Iberian peninsula is the historic homeland of the Lusophine people, and that “the right to exercise national self-determination of the Republic is unique to the Lusophine people.” Though the law is fraught with controversy and highly symbolic, much of it has little practical impact. For example, one section establishes the name of the country as Lusophone and describes its new flag in detail, while another section sets the the official state calendar.

The law also downgrades the status of any language other than Portuguese like English and Arabic, which until now were official languages of the country. It establishes Portuguese as the only official language, removing English and downgrades Arabic and English to a language with “special status.”

The law however, fails to mention minority rights -- an integral part of the Lusophine constitution, which explicitly states that the country "will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture."

Image
Palveiro made news appearances to promote and defend the new law

The law has outraged many liberals and is seen as controversial because it inflames the core tension in Lusophone’s identity. The country was established as a democracy—and a model of Western, liberal values—but Lusophone’s history is also premised on Roman Catholicism. Critics see this new law as a definitive declaration in favor of the Christian identity at the expense of the democratic one.

Lusophone’s new law is a consequential signal of it’s new right leaning values, especially when it comes to minority rights. But its passage doesn’t necessarily represent the right-wing victory that critics claim.

Prime Minister Téa Lacerda put it this way: “In recent years there have been some who have attempted to put in doubt and undercut the core who we are. Today we made it law: This is our nation, language, and flag.”

Image
Lusophone's new flag

In its initial form, the bill was legally challenged and provisions have been haggled over ever since. “Over the long and tortured two-year history of this bill, it has essentially been emptied of almost all of the content that the right-wing folks who supported it at the beginning sought for it to contain,” said a law maker from an opposition party, Partido Progressista.

The Lusophine political left approaches the new law with extreme condemnation. “It fits so well with the narrative on the left that it’s almost not questioned: that Lusophone is sliding towards an abyss of non-democracy,” said a TV pundit. Nearly all liberal parties have echoed this apprehension: This is one more sign, they say, that Lusophone is becoming less tolerant of minorities.

While the law is new, the challenge it presents to Lusophone is not.

"The law of nationalism is the last nail in the coffin of our democracy, which has been dying in recent years because of its suffering from chronic racist diseases that have been afflicted with fascism and directed to Apartheid because of the Frente Nacional and now through the legislation of this law," said another opposition MP.

A World In Flames:

Exclusive One-on-One with Prime Minister Ishihara

"What a cruel thing war is... to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors.” - Robert E. Lee

20 June, 2019 -- Special Correspondent Seki Yukinaga was granted an exclusive interview with Prime Minister Ishihara, our Empire’s Head of Government. An interview like this is extremely rare and the first one Prime Minister Ishihara has done and likely the last. His interview provided our outlet with extraordinary information about our Imperial Government’s outlook on the international community. These are the several notable exchanges between our humble correspondent and the noble Prime Minister.

note: ‘C’ designates Special Correspondent Seki Yukinaga and ‘PM’ designates Prime Minister Ishihara

C: “With tensions rising between the Empire and the ‘Duplicate Nation’, where exactly do you intend on guiding the Imperial Government and Japan when faced with such a riveting issue?”

PM: “The Bengal are interesting and we are terribly confused on what path to take. Dialogue between diplomats never goes anywhere and they appear to want us to accept them as, uh, a type of equal, as if they are Japanese. When we do not give into their demands it is saber rattling and, naturally, when we rattle back they seem to retreat. Its not something I can really pin point for you or the audience.”

C: “We know the Imperial Government and people stand united in defiance towards the endless colonial and ideological wars being pursued on the African continent. Our question, does the Imperial Government intend on taking further measures to pressure a more peaceful end to the conflicts?”

PM: “It is truly incredible to see this waste. Thousands are being murdered over a two ideologies. Nations are being torn apart and redrawn. It is disturbing that the Africans are being disregarded as people and utilized as political tools. I don’t intend on disrespecting the great nations of the world, but these wars of ideology are nothing more than wastes. Wastes of lives, money, and spirit.

People's Party victory in Galicia

Premier Pedro Santos has successfully lead his People's Party to victory, again, securing the Socialist Republic of Galicia for another 4 years. Premier Santos was seen as the deliverer of independence to most voters, because under his guidance, the independence referendum was established to grant Galicia independence from the Bolivarian Republic. This is a clear endorsement of another 4 years of socialist development from a man who is very close to President Castillo of the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano. He promised further spending in education, hospitals and education to spur employment and growth in the economy. The People's Party won 27 seats in the legislative assembly of 55. Main opposition party, Party of Freedom, won 20. Their platform was a mixture of classical liberalism, opening into a free market economy and a pro-European agenda. They proposed joining the DEU. The final 8 seats were split between the Worker's Party (4), Vox, a far-right Galician nationalist party (3) and the Galician Greens (1).

Overshadowed | Lusophone Republic

God overshadows state visit | CNN Translated from original English to Portuguese
Lisboa (CNN) -- Lusophone's capital is busy today as the nation is greeted by a state visit from Espannya, one of Lusophone's neighbors in the Iberian peninsula. In a press availability event after a long day of talks, President Sara Palveiro announced the establishment of relations with Spain as well as a mutual-defense agreement and a non-aggression pact. Speaking on the topic of an open border policy to President Briana Alcabu, President Sara Palveiro carefully responded to the dicey topic of immigration, saying
I am looking forward to further dialogue to consider this proposal on open borders and connecting our road and railway systems in the future.

The state visit of President Briana Alcabu however, was overshadowed by a new law that passed today, requiring every public building in the country to display a Christian cross. The law, which will come into effect next month, adds to the ignited and fierce national debate about the role of religion in politics and what it means to be Lusophine.

"The cross is a fundamental symbol of our Lusophine identity and way of life. It stands for elementary values such as charity, human dignity and tolerance,"
declared Prime Minister Téa Lacerda when the new requirement was announced. Some Christian leaders however, have expressed concern saying displaying the cross should not be mandatory and echoed fears the law would create "division, unrest and adversity."

Those who fail to display the Christian symbol “in a high and clearly visible place” could face fines of up to $890-$1,000, applying he law to buildings including schools, hospitals, airports and prisons. The Frente Nacional claims the law is designed to preserve “the meaning of the principles on which Lusophine society is based.” Commenting on the law's passage, a Frente Nacional MP said "Only Christianity belong to Lusophone," adding: "Lusophone was shaped by Christianity."

This law however, is not new. It was originally part of the controversial 'Lusophine-Identity Law' but was subject of a landmark legal challenge which was taken all the way to the Supreme Court (before it was politically purged by the Frente Nacional.) The court initially ruled the mandatory display of the symbol was in violation of educational codes. But with the appointment of the new Supreme Court, the government appealed the decision and the ruling was overturned.

Actor Paul Jacobson Murdered!

New Hollywood--- Actor Paul Jacobson was found dead in his mansion yesterday after neighbors reported an apparent break-in. Police found his body within his bedroom, he alongside his 'squad' were dead at the scene. Police immediately suspected foul play. Police are still investigating and no suspects have been named; the motive behind this crime still remain unclear, however many citizens speculate it may be due to the controversy surrounding Jacobson. Paul Jacobson was born and raised in Ohio, during the times of the Union State. His rise to fame began during the Pacifican Occupation in the aftermath of the 2016 Union State's collapse. He began uploading videos on the mobile app 'Wine', where he quickly rose to fame. By 2018 he had secured several contracts with film producers in New Hollywood and officially moved into the Pacifican core territory later that year. At first, he was adored since his acting skill were supreme, however his foreignness became more apparent as time went on. By 2020, he was among the richest actors in New Hollywood and the population's adornment had long faded. He lived an almost completely Hedonistic lifestyle that many considered disruptive and toxic upon the youth. He held large parties for tourists, disrupted the neighborhood, and threatened those that attempted to stop him. His controversy exploded last year when he started construction of the first mansion in Pacifican history, of which was completed two weeks ago. The population was disgusted with what many considered to be a direct attack on Pacifican values. The rich have extremely strict social expectations, and any over-display of wealth is considered strictly taboo. The rich are expected to help the needy, live modestly, and help their community; they are expected to live like everyone else, attend the same events as everyone else, and attend the same schools as everyone else. Those that do not conform are ostracized from society, their businesses condemned, and anything related to their family's name or company becomes untrustworthy and 'elitist'. A classic example of this is the collapse of the once-dominant Pacifimart, or more commonly known by it's previous name, WalmartTwo. Much like the owners of WalmartTwo, Paul Jacobson was the antithesis to these norms, and his building of a mansion despite living in Pacifica for many years was viewed as disgusting and insulting.

Thus, in the eyes of the citizen, his murder on June 23rd was no coincidence. Conspiracies currently circulate the internet that the murder was a "Trident operation meant to prevent the corruption of society". Other conspiracies speculate that "it was another rich person that despised his lack of character". These conspiracies aren't as crazy as they may seem, both cases have indeed happened. However, current details of the crime scene indicate that it was an armed group that stormed broke into the house. Forensics indicates that the primary weapon of the suspects was most likely a potato-peeler, however wounds from other weapons were found on the bodies. Investigators speculate that the crime scene was staged after the fact, in order to push the investigation towards the Canadian community. Framing Canadians is more common than not, and these day's it is a giveaway that the crime was committed by locals. The investigation continues, but it is likely that his murder is the result of the unrest caused by the construction and completion of his mansion home. Public officials state that his mansion will most likely be torn down, however Jacobson's family will be repaid the mansion's construction costs in full. Despite his decadence, Paul Jacobson played a key role in the redevelopment of the Californian film-industry and even his most aggressive critics have condoned his murder.
