Today Edifice Global Investments, the National Sovereign Wealth Funds main company used for building and infrastructure developments across the globe, announced that it has begun construction on a pair of office tower in El Golf, the upmarket business district of Santiago, home to its tallest buildings. Once complete, the buildings will be the 3rd and 4th tallest buildings in Santiago after Gran Torre Santiago and Torre Titanium la Portada, which will help to fill out the skyline of Santiago. The shorter tower, Fountain Place, will stand at 150 metres, just metres higher than Torre Telefonica, meanwhile the tallest tower, Parkside Place, will stand at 170 metres, 23.9 metres shorter than Santiago's 2nd tallest building, Torre Titanium la Portada.
Magellan law requires that tall skyscrapers in cities must provide public space, so Edifice Global Investments has tasked Senator for Life and famous contemporary architect who designed the Shard in London, Renzo Piano, to design a park and piazza named 'Edifice Park' for the development that will include a garden restaurant, fountains, newly planted trees and a stunning amphitheatre for public venues such as orchestras and plays.
The office towers themselves will contain small office spaces specifically designed for start-up businesses. With the success of the Start-up Magella programme demand for high quality, modern office space with connection to fiberoptic internet has skyrocketed in Santiago as the city is the economic centre of Magella. This huge demand has caused prices to rent or purchase offices to skyrocket, attracting EGI to built these impressive towers. Pre-completion virtual tours are already attracting buyers from Magella's start-up tech scene and it is predicted that both towers will be fully sold out before the towers even finish construction.
