French Indochinese Federation "reorganizes" South China Sea territories

The Paracel Islands and Spratly Islands had been under mixed North Vietnamese, South Vietnamese, Chinese, and Philippine control during most of the 20th Century. Since the Third Indochina War (2015) however, the balance of power has shifted greatly. The reunification of Vietnam as a French Dominion and then annexation of the Chinese controlled reefs during the border war of 2016 left French Indochina as the major power in the area. Now, the French Indochinese Federation has after a delayed period of time moved to "reorganize" their military positions in the territories. Namely, all of the ARVN ground forces based on the main reclaimed-land islands have been withdrawn aside from a few guarding the main airstrips. A series of sonar installations is under construction, with experts from Western Europe being consulted. In addition to this, the French Indochinese Congress has voted to allow commercial fishing and navigation of the area by all countries so long as it is done in a way which is sustainable. This ends decades of preferential treatment towards the country which controls the reefs, and together with the withdrawal of troops offers a future of a South China Sea united by unrestricted trade and commerce.

Situation in Indochina stabilizing

Production of rice in Vietnam for the next harvest has been projected to be above normal levels due to increased capital investment by the French Confederation and international community as well as improved conditions. Food aid from abroad has been incredibly valuable in getting the Cambodian citizenry of the Federation through the last month and a half of near famine, and the removal of tariffs on food imports across Indochina swiftly by authorities has also been praised. Despite this, another three weeks of increased food imports are estimated to be required; word that the British Empire and Sixth Republic had been discussing such aid in their recent meeting of their Entente has been welcomed. The government of the country has also offered contracts to foreign and domestic companies wishing to help reestablish a fully-functioning transport network in Cambodia.

Italian Business Man killed in Lagos
Today footage was uploaded to OnlineLeak that has disturbed and outraged many viewers. An Italian man, identified as Ernesto Mazzo, was killed when he was discovered to have ties to an Italian company that had interests in Nigeria. Mazzo had traveled to Lagos for a meeting according to his wife but was trapped within the city when the country fell apart. The socialist NSRA has been notorious for killing people who they believe contributed to the collapse of Nigeria, mostly blaming those in high positions of high economic power or from foreign companies.

The video seems to have been uploaded by the NSRA themselves as it is titled "DEATH TO THE CAPITALISTS THAT DESTROYED NIGERIA". The video itself is extremely graphic as it shows Mazzo being repeatedly whipped and forced to walk up a street while surrounded by cheering and screaming people. At the end of the video, a beaten and bloody Mazzo is hoisted up and hanged on a street light as people chant for the death of European Imperialism in Nigeria and Africa. Ernesto was 55 years old at the time of death. So far the Italian Government has not responded to this incident. Other foreign nationals trapped in Nigeria have been advised by their governments to try and find some place safe and bunker down.

Classified- Revenge Protocol

One day ago the COC (Cybernetic Operations Command) managed to track down the main perpetrators of the killing of an Italian national in Lagos. SISMI (Military Intelligence and Security Service) agents embedded in NSRA were able to kidnap the group of 4 men who were identified as the people who carried out the execution of the man from the video published online. The 4 men were blindfolded, gaged and thrown in the back of an inconspicuous white van.

In the dead of night the van pulled up in a small marina in Lagos, where a large black speedboat boat was waiting. The 4 men were thrown onboard and the SISMI agents returned and reintegrated themselves into the NRSA, worried that they would be found out. "Helping to find the 4 missing men". Meanwhile the black speedboat sped along the Nigerian coast approaching Forcados where the Italian fleet was located. The speedboat arrived at ITS Sergio Mattarella early this morning as dawn broke. The 4 men were then transferred from the speedboat onto a grey Marina Militare Piaggio P.180 Avanti transport plane. The plane took off from ITS Sergio Mattarella and flew directly to Tigres Island military base where the 4 men were unloaded onto the tarmac and dragged into a grey brutalist-style concrete bunker known by soldiers at the base as 'The Chamber'.

The men were met by a masked man in military uniform who tied them to a chair and doused them in water before clamping electrified pliers to them causing them to scream in pain until they were on the edge of death. This would be repeated mercilessly for an hour before the second phase of the 'punishment', as the masked man called it, would take place. The men were then waterboarded using using gasoline repeatedly for a further hour before they were begging to die. However, they were only half way there. The third step was to rip off the toenails and fingernails of the mean using pliers, pulling off each nail one at a time then pouring hydrochloric acid over the open wounds, dissolving the tender flesh of the victims as they screamed in sheer agony begging to be killed. The next stage of the punishment was the castration of the 4 men and the placement of leeches over the open wounds of the castration. This would continue for an hour before 4 hounds were released on the men, mauling them until they were virtually dead, but still alive and conscious. Their consciousness was required for the final stage, their death, to be as agonising as possible. The men were thrown into a small empty concrete room with a concrete door which was shut and locked. Their was no light and the 4 men lay their in pools of their own blood waiting to die. A roaring sound could be heard after a few minutes in the room, then suddenly fire burst from each wall incinerating the men and burning their torn, fragile flesh into ash...

The plane with the 4 men onboard was spotted off the coast of Angola preparing to land on Tigres Island: Image

Reporting from OE: Opposition to truth in CSN?

Reporting live from the Ottoman Empire, in the heart of Ankara. The tensions of war have been boiling for some time now, and have now broken out. The Ottoman Empire is facing aggression from all sides, and the foes who are larger in number and capacity, aren't looking to stand-down. What is increasingly unusual, however, is that in response to a Bill tabled by the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano to launch an investigation into the reason for the declaration of war, all nations involved either openly voted against it, or abstained. War was declared after Persian and Zackarothian investigation teams reportedly discovered it was the Ottoman Empire who had been supplying the terrorist KiK forces. They haven't given the CSN, or other nations for that matter, the supposed evidence they have obtained.

To ensure there was no foul-play, Puertollano had the Bill presented to launch a clear, independent and truly unbiased investigation into the reason for the war, as well as a cease fire so this can be conducted in relative safety. Resounding NAYS came from nations like Italy, Bulgaria and Persia, all who have important stakes in this war. This is a clear indication that there is no governmental support for an independent investigation, and the Puertollanoan Delegates have been following up on this. And rightly so. It should raise many alarms with the broader international community, as to why the instigators of the war oppose a CSN-led investigation into the reason they are waging war for. This reaction to a sensible and common-sense measure presumes dirty work, on behalf on the aggressors against the Ottoman Empire.

This leads any reasonable individual to assume all that Zackaroth and Persia are not in fact telling the whole truth, otherwise they would support the whole truth. In the most extreme circumstance, it could have easily been a fabrication to remove and change the government of the Ottoman Empire, to become a more friendly regime to their interests. If that is the truth, this would be the biggest tragedy and scam to have ever occurred in modern history. When pressured by Puertollano about their reluctance to support an investigation, the Italian Delegation in the CSN said they couldn't answer for reasons of national security. That is, more often than not, code-word for cover-up, sham, and international-sanctioned misinformation. When your Delegates answer that they cannot support an investigation due to 'national security', you instantly understand something is happening.

IBRC arrests first tax-evader!

The 'International Business Regulation Committee', an organisation created between New Metropolitan France and Puertollano, that hunts down serial tax avoiders and tax frauds from across the world, has caught its first victim. The man, Basil Marceuax, a French money-launderer was arrested before boarding a plan to Trinidad and Tobago in a Puertollanoan Airport. Being swiftly apprehended by the special task-force, he is to be sent to France to face trial. It is understood that he was hiding money in overseas banks and accounts within the Caribbean islands. Puertollano has stepped up its actions in recent times, increasing the penalties for being involved in such activities.

The Ball and the Funeral

As the first guest, the Bulgarian President Yankov arrived at Athens.
Then, the GU stated that the Kaiser himself, and Ben Müller will also attend the funeral.
The Puertollanoan government rejected the offer.
Other heads of states are still invited.

This is the current situation of the attendees, and hopefully the other world leaders will consider the invitation. It should be noted that the post-coronation ball will last for two days, so if any of the invited leaders change their mind and desire to attend, they will be very welcome to do so.

While this was happening, the Bulgarian President visited a children’s hospital in Athens, a move which made him quite popular amongst the Athenians. The Chancellor and the Empress were scheduled to meet him tomorrow, but alas, his trip was cut short.

The funeral will also certainly wait for the German Kaiser and the Austrian Emperor.

Art Nouveau in Athens!

Image

Upon coronation, Her Majesty the Empress ordered the construction of a whole new district for Athens. This new district will be located to east of Piraeus, which has been absorbed to the new expanded Athenian urban region. This new district will be filled with buildings, whose designs are inspired from the famous “Art Nouveau” movement. The main colours of the district are chosen to be cyan and white and the main building material will be stone.

This action isn’t new though, as the Emperor Fregantes also reintroduced the Neo-Classical architecture to Athens at the beginning of his reign. The new district is also planned to have a new square, and a sculpture of the deceased Emperor is planned to be constructed as a monument.

The head engineer and architect, Galliani Sevouka, explained with a he intended to do in this project: “ We will prove to the world, that humanity is still capable of building beautiful cities with cohesion and diversity, hand in hand. In the near future, we hope to transform Athens to a truly imperious city”.

Deployment Near the Turco-Fregantese Border

As the tensions rising in the region, and two out of three of the Empire’s allies in war, the Fregantese government decided to send four divisions, each numbering 20,000 troops.
These four divisions at hand are consisted of;

-Two Infantry Divisions
-One Main Battle Tank Division (with Artillery support)
-One Mechanized Infantry Division

Also, the Fregantese fleet is put on high allert. The fleet was separated into two groups, with the first one moving towards the Dardanelles, and the second one to the Aegean Islands to provide defence. There is no official declaration of war, however, the Empire won’t hesitate to defend herself, nor to help her allies.
"Long live the legacy of the Roman Empire!"

FSR Evacuates South Americans From the Ottoman Empire

Today the FSR Assembly decided to evacuate South American citizens from the Ottoman Empire. However, the journey won't be strait to Turkey. As part of a deal with the Austro-Danubian goverment, they'll first dock at a Croatian port to be documented. A few journalists have critiqued the Assembly for taking so long to take action. They point out that it's unacceptable that Puertollano has set to evacuate FSR citizens even before the FSR. The Assembly did not officially comment on the situation. However, a journalist who claims to have gotten in touch with a representative learned that the cease fire played a part in hurrying up efforts to make a decision.

Already, the FSR has sent many convoys to support the evacuation mission. Many theorize that this is because the Assembly was unsure whether the ceasefire would actually last for long. If that's the case then the FSR would be trying to evacuate people as quickly as possible in case that war breaks out soon again.

OOC: FSR citizens have been given the highest priority for the evacuation mission, followed by Puertollanoan citizens and then other South Americans. This information hasn't been released publically.

East Pakistan finishes new referendum, decides to host Rohinya refugees in limited numbers

Image

DHAKA, People's Republic of Pakistan- In Dhaka the mood is intense, as the vote counting nears completion. All across the city even late at night lights are on, people watching the news waiting for the results. As the conflict in Burma continues on, many comrades thought we needed to take action and called for a referendum for the potential acceptance of over 400,000 refugees into the country. All across the country debate raged all over the nation and just a few days back a referendum was held, with the alternate vote system. The final tally was to accept a portion of refugees on strict conditions, said conditions will soon be debated upon by the Worker's Assembly.

The decision comes as a reminder of Pakistan's new place in the world, as we modernize and industrialize. Pakistan has come from a poor backwards nation, to a middle income industrialized one, and we must face up to our responsibility to protect the people's of the world. While the majority of the country is happy over the final vote, many are still concerned such as 22 year old, Nithya Arastoo of Technical University of Dhaka. "Those people are dying in Burma, is it not our responsibility to help protect them? We are now plenty rich and have the resources to help everyone, and shouldn't let them die because of vague concerns of terror". Still others want more strict conditions or no refugees at all, one being Uzay Bukhari a factory worker. "These immigrants sure they might be under strain, but can we seriously expect to support them, with our massive population? They can bring terrorism into our peaceful cities. I hope our delegates have strict regulations but all along we should have accepted only fellow comrades".

With the referendum completed the main concern of policymakers should be integrating them as fast as possible. The Worker's Assembly of East Pakistan has called for a few proposals to be submitted with the government hopes to test. Polls held by Universities and media outlets have shown the Pakistani government must work steadfastly to assure the integration of refugees. Will they deliver?

De-militarisation of border

The forces stationed on the Puertollano-North American Federation border have seen movement today. Movement in the right direction. Puertollano has announced it will withdraw from the Northern American border, abandoning the previously-armed militarisation stations, leaving only the Border Force to the protection of the border between Panama and Costa Rica. High General Hugo Chavez spoke in the press conference about the subject, announcing; "The Bolivarian Republic successfully conducted its military exercise of self-determination and anti-imperialism." It was always the opinion of the government that the militarisation was a not sign of aggression or hostility, but an action to ensure the readiness and organisation of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces, despite the additional remarks made by President Castillo. The naval forces have turned around too, continuing routine naval missions throughout the Caribbean.

Humanitarian Aid to arrive in Ottoman Empire

In a deal struck with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, cargo-liners have begun their journey to Northern Turkey, to the Port Town of Trabzon. Diplomatic negotiations have allowed Puertollano to pack and send off 3 cargo-liners with humanitarian aid, such as medicine, fresh water, rationed food and warm clothing. This is in response to the great war between a Coalition of Middle Eastern and European Powers, against the Ottoman Empire continues to rage on, with no clear victor in sight. The 346 km trip is part of an effort from the Puertollanoan Government to ensure the safety of civilians during the on-going war.

The country however expressed its willingness to offer foreign aid for relief purposes in affected areas such as Nigeria and the Near East.

Criticism however remains high after several key leaders in the Legislature House told press of their sympathy to right-wing groups in any case although they expressed concerns for safety and peaceful conclusions of such groups. The country is also reported to be more lenient to the FSR amidst cold-off tensions with the Japanese.

Italian and Libyan governments agree to defensive alliance and construction of oil pipeline

Today after friendly negotiations between the Italian and Libyan governments the two countries agreed to a defensive alliance, ensuring that if Libya is attacked the Italian military will always be prepared to fight to defend Italy's southern neighbour Libya and if Italy is attacked the Libyan military will help its Italian neighbour to the north.

The geographic proximity of the two nations means, as stated by President Mariastella Gelmini: "It is essential that we have a special relationship on all fronts, economically and militarily to ensure stability and peace in our local region and to give Libya a friend in Europe, and Italy and friend in Africa." The President then went on to state that "This defensive alliance is a symbol strength and mutual friendship between two nations with radically different but equally respectful ideologies, showing that ideology should not divide our world as it so clearly does today." The Ministry of Defence has also offered to host joint military exercises in the near future to help train Libya's troops to a more sophisticated and advance standard.

After the defensive alliance was announced showing the military relationship between the two nations, the economic relationship was unveiled being a 1,800km (1,118 mile) long oil pipeline from the Libyan oil fields, which output almost 2 million barrels of oil per day. The cost of the pipeline will be equally split between the Libyan and Italian governments, with Italian infrastructure company Atlantia building the facility in Sicily and underwater pipeline to Tunisia whilst the Libyan government will build the pipeline from the Libyan oil fields to the Tunisian coast where the pipe goes underwater.

Whilst Atlantia has a smaller length pipeline to build it must build a huge facility to accommodate the oil supplies and distribute the oil to national pipelines and oil transport trucks as well as build an underwater pipeline which is much more costly per km, roughly equalising the cost according to the financial analysts organising the financing of the project.

A map of the proposed route for the pipeline, which is over 90% unoccupied desert: Image

[CORRECTION: The pipeline will now end in the Port of Tripoli and the oil will be shipped to the Port of Gioia Tauro by ship.]

OROSTANI SFR APPROVES ECONOMIC PLAN

The People's Congress of the FSR today has voted to give the Economic Commission permission to reorganize into the National Industrial Board. The NIB will begin operating a new economic plan in the Orostani SFR only before extending it to the rest of the SFR if it is successful. The new plan will use the recently completed computer bank 2 and 3 of the NIB Economic Computation division, which is headquartered in Brasilia. The new economic plan completely changes the way distribution works, and how production is managed. A new payment method for workers has also been introduced, which pays them based on productivity. Should they exceed their quota, a factory will still be paid for the goods they produce. Only exponentially less for every surplus good produced. Distribution will now be managed by several rail, road, and air transport cooperatives which are themselves groups of smaller cooperatives. Some of the larger production cooperatives in Orostan have been broken up into smaller cooperatives as well. The implementation of the plan began overnight, where computer banks 2 and 3 were turned on and began calculating labor values for the entire economy of the FSR as well as taking in information on output, productive capacity, and demand. Only data pertaining to Orostan is being used right now, but it is still being stored for later. After that, the computers were instructed to balance the economy, which only takes place in the processing units of the computer and not in the real world. It only means that the computer equalized every industries output. Following that, the computers brought production in line with required outputs. The morning where cooperatives received their first instructions for the day, the economic plan had already been calculated. Demand for every product had already been cataloged and projections developed, supply of every product too. Elections for the NIB are scheduled to take place shortly after the general elections for the FSR.

Executive Councillor Isabela Goméz walked in tandem with her fellow councillors, Ricardo Ramirez and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva across the main hall of the capital building, all wearing formal suits, matching each other step for step. Behind them were the heads of state of several nations from across the world: Puertollanoan President Nicolo Castillo walked with Prime Minister Ayturk Indra of Pakistan, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia, and President Natalia Kraszanka of Poland. They were heading to the entrance of the capital building, where a horde of journalists and reporters stood, waiting. They had all been notified that something important was happening, although none suspected the magnitude of what was about the be announced.
The heads of state of the nations had been meeting in secret for several months, travelling and discussing. No outsiders were allowed in, not even security guards. The topic of the meetings was a tightly guarded subject; the meetings themselves were only known to few. The leaders exited the main hall of the building to a massive crowd. The press conference was broadcasted to almost every nation across the world.

The crowd cheered at the symbol of unity the countries' leaders were showing, side by side. La Pláta's own Councillor Goméz took the podium, the crowd shushing almost immediately. Her, speech, which will be remembered for years to come, has been transcribed below.

Goméz wrote:Hello, esteemed citizens of the world.

As you know, the Federation has maintained an unvarying stance on imperialism. We believe; we know just how terrible imperialism can be. Was our great country not borne from the very nations who stood up to the Spanish Empire, to fight for our freedom? Many a nation at the time chose to stand up and fight, to destroy imperialism wherever it lay. In many ways, they succeeded. And yet, you have places where imperialism continues to rear its ugly head. You have places with entire civilizations and cultures are subjugated, forcefully, in favor of a foreign one.

Now, many of these nations, sovereign nations, are unable to fight back against imperialists. They are unable to do what we all did, not so long ago; they are unable to maintain their own sovereignty. Yet they have continuously expressed a preference for keeping it, for preserving their freedom. Not many, however, could stand up to the might of the imperialists. At least, not alone.

On this historic day, five sovereign states band together in unity to show that such oppression of independence will no longer be tolerated! On this day, a new organization is born, to stand in the way of imperialism! On this day, we stand with each other, to protect other nations when they cannot! On this day, the Coalition of Independent States is born!

Goméz's speech was met with a resounding applause among the attendees of the conference. And across the world, her words had a resounding impact. The official charter of the organization, which was made public the very same day, has been signed by all of the heads of state of the nations. While it is quite lengthy, it states that the organization shall link together the nations through several programs, including economic, political, and military ones.

Bringing news from nine perspectives

Treaty of Silicon Finally Signed

The Central governments of Pacifica and Second U.S have announced that their two years of negotiations, debates, and disputes have finally ended. The United Republics will partition it's occupied territories amongst the Second United States and a newly declared independent country, the Midwestern Republic. However, to fully understand this situation, especially amongst people whom reside outside this sphere, requires a lot of background information. So, what started this entire mess between the two members? It all goes back two years ago, after the collapse of the Union State.
The Union of America was sickened, and the rise of Pacifica certainly did not help with their false exertion of dominance. Colorado and Wyoming were under the control of Pacifica since the partition of the American SR, a claim that the Union State contested, as such once unrest began to develop in Colorado-Wyoming, the Union State moved in. This occupation of the eastern parts of Colorado-Wyoming sparked a large crisis that saw Pacifica amass a large coalition of allied nations to effectively remove the last bastion of totalitarianism in the Western world. The Union State capitulated within a week without bloodshed, and a new government took it's place, which was simply known as the "American Commonwealth." This intermin government wouldn't last, and within a month Civil War broke out. The Pacifican government authorized the seizure of some land that was controlled by the rebels. Eventually Pacifica, along side many other nations, intervened ending the civil war and established the Second United States, but the land Pacifica occupied was never given back.
For a better understanding, here is a map of the administrative regions of Pacifica:

Image
(Note that administrative regions are not states, but rather census regions as a means to organize things, similar to the system in the old USA, I.E New England, Mountain region, etc)

The occupied regions are the territories that were occupied by Pacifica during and after the war. They were not administered officially, since negotiations began immediately. The negotiations stalled since Pacifica wanted to bring the Michigan Republic back to existence, stating that they owed the region a debt due to their inability to protect it during the Great American War, while the Second United States wanted all the land back. Both sides had trouble compromising, no thanks to Pacifica's habit of ignoring the issue entirely. The people that lived in the occupied regions were essentially confused in what they exactly were in the nation. They were not administered as a republic and had their own central government that was controlled by the Pacifican government but also paradoxically more autonomous than any administered republic. Think Puerto Rico but on a bigger scale. Finally after two years a compromise was settled, no thanks due to federal intervention and a mass referendum held in the region. Both nations being liberal to an extent, can not ignore the will of the people.
This dispute is said to have stalled the Second Untied State's admission into the then-North American Commonwealth, but they needed the economic aid and Pacifica promised to actually settle the issue and not passively tackle it and ignore it due to other affairs.
The Treaty of San Francisco effectively states that Michigan, Illinois and Indiana will be ceded to the Second USA, as per popular opinion, while the remainder will be reorganized into the newly declared Midwestern Republic, which will remain independent from Pacifica and be administered as a member into the N.A.F. The Midwestern Republic will be governed as a Unitary state, which is a rare form of government within the N.A.F. It is considered to be the successor state to the Michigan Republic, albeit this only holds symbolic meaning if anything.
Here is the map of the new defined borders:

Image

The citizens of the occupied regions can finally rejoice and no longer have to deal with internal confusions. The Midwestern Republic is to hold official elections to elect members of parliament and to send federal representatives into Congress. Due to popular demand, the Michigan Republic will be a parliamentary republic with a Prime Minister and President. Celebrations can be seen from Detroit, to welcome admission into the New Union, to Minneapolis, the new capital of the Michigan Republic. Pacificans show an overall positive attitude to this as they feel they can finally repay the debt they believed they owed to the Michigan Republic, which was invaded and annexed by the Union State after the then-Western Coalition (now modern day Pacifica) collapsed. Around 87% of Pacificans believe that Midwesterner's can finally yearn free after years of occupation from all angles. Around 5% have expressed discontent, stating that they believe the United Republics should have kept the territory and fully administrate it into a Republic. They argue that this would have kept Pacifica's position as a dominant power in the Federation secure and keep "Canadian influence" in check, ironically many Canadians argue the same logic but reversed, that this will secure Canada and the Federation from "Pacifican Influence."
Either way, only a small minority of people within the Federation hold a negative or discontent view on this matter and are overall happy for the people of the Midwest.

What should socialism be?

The Republican Times

Recently there has been a renewed storm of political rhetoric in Andea, calling for sudden change and reform. While this isn’t unprecedented, for a country which throughout its history has mostly espoused gradualism it’s certainly a wake up call. A new group clamoring for aspects of a planned economy to be introduced has gained a lot of attention recently. This coincides with the Orostani’s SFR economic reforms, which promise a better life for workers. This new group, however has been countered by Andea’s traditional market socialist base.

Advocates for a planned economy have already been a small but yet still sizable group in Andea, but recently their number of supporters have only soared. Their strongest base of support comes from workers in cooperatives which produce material goods. Many in that sector believe that that Orostani-like reforms would lead to better lives for them. Support there was so strong, that just hours after the Orostani reforms were enacted a petition was formed to adopt similar reforms for the materials sector. The petition got a lot of support, and soon afterwards a referendum was hastily organized on the subject. The reformists barely won out, with 52.7% being for and 47.3% being against.

However, the results of the referendum were taken to court, where it was declared invalid. According to judge Nicole Fernandez, “… to force an entire industry section to comply would violate their right to self-management. Such a change is simply illegal lest the Andean Constitution is amended.” However, she pointed out that it was possible for arrangements to be made for cooperates to voluntarily place themselves under a planned system, if they could get permission from the Andean government. They of course petitioned the state, a request which was quickly granted.

From there on, the Andean Economic Board was created, which would run sort of a “trial run” for Orostani-like reforms. It’s currently limited to just cooperatives which are in the material goods sector, but already, many cooperatives have already volunteered, including a few prominent ones. Membership in the Andean Economic Board is expected to rise quite a bit as other cooperatives finalize their decisions.

The compromise has drawn some criticism from more hardliners, arguing that Andea should completely ditch its market economy and switch to a planned one. On the other hand, pro-market factions argue that switching to a planned economy would lead to a loss of much of Andea’s versatility and would add too much government control over people’s life. Proponents of a planned economy say that both statements are untrue, particularly the latter one. They say that the free-market isn’t really free, claiming that money dominates the decisions people take in their lives. And then some even went as far as denouncing Andea for being capitalist due to it having a market, a controversial statement as many see Andea as the first established socialist state. While it’s true that Andea utilizes a market, it’s system of worker cooperatives, workplace democracy, and extensive public projects establishes it as a true socialist state, even if it’s different from the form of socialism that arose in most other socialist countries.

French Confederation defense spending hits historic heights

An emergency session of Parliament was held overnight in Paris. With the world facing the latest in the seemingly endless series of wars since 2015, the Republic's military officials apparently gave a highly classified report to the leadership of the ruling coalition and the opposition. Reporters captured photos of the politicians as they left the conference room, and one word described them all regardless of their alignment in domestic affairs; despair.

The Emergency Military Procurement Bill has been passed into effect under urgency. Taxes on certain sectors of the Confederation are expected to be increased in the coming month to cover half of the estimated tens of billions increase in military spending. A bond agreement with the North American Federation has also been struck to lessen the expense in the short term, instead spreading it over a ten year period. Defense Spending as a percentage of GDP is now estimated to be 6.2% - the highest since 1960 - a time when Gaullist politics dominated, nuclear weapons were first being established by the Republic, and the country was waging a bloody civil war in Algeria and conflict in Indochina.

Analysts were "stunned" by the announcement. For decades, the Republic had in spite of the Third Indochina War, Persian Gulf Union, and even Great European War been ordered strictly not to exceed their budgetary limits. In those special times of crisis, one-off arrangements had been made to increase spending during operations however the annual allocation for procurement never changed. This ended today. It also brings to an end Leonard's policy of demilitarization which was personified by the defunding of the RTA militia.

Interestingly, the leader of the opposition and the Prime Minister are to meet with an Algerian colonel twice a month.

The ATHENA

HOBART- With the completion and overall great success of the Helios II program in reducing the country's dependency on fossil fuels, financing new electric automobile car designs as well as increasing interest in the common people the benefits of using solar powered energy, the program was able to exceed expectations. A projected 20% use of renewable energy by the end of 2017 was surpassed, with the Ministry of Energy recording renewable energy accounting for 33% of the total energy use of the country, most of the energy coming from new solar cell plants in the outback and the use of tide plants across the Strait of Hobart. According to the Ministry of Budget and Finance, the money saved from using fossil fuels and oil amounted to approximately $74.13B dollars worth of imports and supposed delays and shortages in fuel deliveries. It is expected because of the program that the general public will be more lenient on reducing their ecological footprint and start a green revolution.

Being said, the Legislature House finally approved Helios III, "Sunshine". The said program is said to be unlike the previous 2 Helios programs and will take on a more R&D approach, in science and in the military. ACHEUS has been put into talks in partnering with the program in the development of new weaponry as well as the design of new technology in increasing energy output of solar powered plants and reducing energy consumption of appliances. Confirmed sources from within the Australian military have said of the possibility of the Helios-ACHEUS partnership in creating a laser cannon, which have not been confirmed by the government or Helios-ACHEUS program themselves.

The ONS Kagoshima Launches
After the debacle with the Yamato class carriers the Japanese navy went back to the drawing board to come up with a brand new carrier design. Using the hulls and funding from the other two Yamato class ships and a ULCC tanker hull bought from JMU the newest class of carrier, the Kagoshima, was constructed. Displacing 90,000 tons and measuring 1290 feet long with a beam of nearly 500 feet the ships is the largest in the Japanese Navy and is the first full duty flattop the Japanese Navy has built since the end of the Second World War and is the largest carrier in terms of deck space. The tri-hulled ship has many unique features to it including two bridges, two runways, and three catapults. The catapults and the elevators of the ship are located between the runways, allowing easy access to both sides of the ship and quick launching of aircraft. The ship can hold 70 aircraft at full capacity, including both fixed and tilt wing aircraft. Uniquely the vessel also boasts a moderate marine detachment similar to those found Amphibious Assault craft. It can hold two hovercraft, 8 vehicles, and a detachment of 500 marines. This ship is powered by two thorium reactors that not only power the engines but its defenses as well.

Image

The Kagoshima Class is the first Japanese vessel to use a laser defense system , or LDS for short. This system can shoot down missiles and small aircraft but currently cannot damage large craft. These systems work in tangent with eight 5" inch gun mounts, four Sea Sparrow Missile batteries, and two RAM Airframe Missile Mounts. The vessel can use these systems to down targets up to 25 miles away at max range and the lasers can down missiles at two miles away. The vessel has a max speed of 28 knots and has an unlimited range. The largest advantage of this vessel is the hull design itself, allowing for a much more stable launch platform as well as landing strip as well as allowing for a much larger flight deck at a lower weight then that found on conventional carriers.

After the fiasco with the Yamato class the Japanese Government made a thorough inspection of the ship and were extremely impressed by what they saw. However, PNN does want to point out that this ship was rushed in construction, shown by the addition of a JMU tanker hull over building a brand new one. Regardless it appears that this ships is a much needed improvement over the Yamato. Today the ship was launched at Yokohama to a crowd of nearly 100,000 people gathered along the shoreline as well as thousands more across the country via the internet. Prime Minister Ado was in attendance and smashed a bottle of wine on the vessels hull saying,
We commission this ship in a world on the brink of war. In the Middle East the Imperial League and the Ottomans are at each other's throats and in Africa out brave men and women in the JSDF fight to end a bloody civil war. Since returning to the world Japan has been forced to sit in the shadows, to quietly hope that the powers of the world do not turn their gaze upon us. Now, Japan has embarked with an international Coalition in the CSN, created the global alliance that is the Alliance of Pacific States, and has rebuilt the Island Nations of the Pacific. Nearly seventy years ago Japan used her influence, her wealth, and her military might to take the sovereignty of Asia and the Pacific, now we use that same power to defend the very rights of those same people. We commission this ship, the ONS Kagoshima, in a time of war with hopes that should war once again come to the waters of the Pacific, Japan will stand ready to weather the storm and defend the sovereign rights of all who call the Pacific home!

Image
The Kagoshima in comparison to the Regan Class

The Japanese Military has ordered two more of these ships. Eight smaller versions have been ordered as well but no details have been revealed on them. The Navy has also stated that the Kongo Class shisp will be launched soon as it appears that many of the vessel's issues are now being resolved.

The La Pláta Times

12 July 2018

Major Economic Reforms Sweep the FSR

By JORGE MERLO

Just hours before the time of the writing of this article, the Orostani SFR's implemented a ton of reforms to the way their economy works, with the intention of spreading this system soon to the other SFR's. The Orostani SFR, which has traditionally been more left-wing than both the Andean and La Plátan SFR's, is currently transitioning, or actually has transitioned, into more of a planned economy, centralizing economic power into a National Industrial Board. Overnight the entire economic system of the Orostani SFR was overhauled, reorganizing cooperatives and determining demand and supply, while also paying workers based on productivity.

Soon after, in a stunning turn of events, the Andean SFR adopted similar adopted similar reforms, due to apparent popular support for such action. The version of the economic reforms applied there were slightly different from the Orostani SFR's; an Andean Economic Board was created, and cooperatives could decide whether or not to take such reforms.

The response in La Pláta has been much different than both the Andean and Orostani SFR's. While protests grew in the Andean SFR to adopt such changes, petitions were formed in La Pláta to prevent such changes from ever taking place. These petitions grew quite popular, but have yet to receive enough support to be brought before a court of law. Still, hastily organized marches drew many bystanders into the protests, to show that the La Plátan people were against economic reform.

Currently, and traditionally, La Pláta runs on a form of market socialism. The people own the means of production through cooperatives, which then compete in a capitalist-type free market. While the government of La Pláta has made no official statements about the economic reforms as of yet, the people generally dislike centralizing economic power in such a way. As the protests continue to rock many major cities, the people have made it clear that no version of these economic reforms will be applied to La Pláta anytime soon, or anytime in the future, unless there are very large and very obvious benefits to the Andean and Orostani SFR's.

Hyper Socialist advocate Kurt Ferguson goes on tour around the Andes!

Kurt Ferguson, a famous Hyper Socialist advocate has taken a trip to the FSR, specifically the Andes. He has stated that he'll stop by every sizable city and community in the Republic. He has stated that he will cover the economic ideals of Hyper Socialism; the idea of creating a loosely and flexible planned economy and to create collaboration between the state, worker cooperatives and labor unions, and scientific institutions, and how they wish to gradually replace all businesses with worker cooperatives. Though, because it would be unnatural for public speaker to go to a foreign country to preach his ideology and just echo-chamber, he also said he'd be covering some social views of Hyper Democracy as well; the idea of creating a culture based off of the values of the West, family, fatherland, religion and the will to better yourself as an individual. He stated that the two cities he'll go to for his finale will be Lima, Leticia. He stated all throughout his trip he'll allow people to question him at the end. Of course, he has stated that he'll do in the FSR what Stones did across the NAF; "All who disagree with me in the questioning period will be allowed to go first; those who agree with me goes last." It's believed that he'll arrive in 4 days from now.

Borders shift as NSRA and ICN gain territory over HNA

After observing the shift in power in Nigeria thanks to the recent CSN intervention, military experts can agree that both the NSRA and the ICN are gaining ground against the HNA as the CSN begins its effort to restore order in the country. The NSRA made a surprising move as they launched an attack on the HNA stronghold of Ibadan. The fighting was intense and bloody but the NSRA is confirmed to have taken the city and have been spotted reinforcing it against further attacks by the HNA. The HNA suffered a huge blow earlier thanks to the CSN focusing is efforts near Warri and forcing the group to gather its forces to prepare against a large coalition. Observers note however the guns the NSRA are using seem to be freshly purchased and they may be getting backing from other nations.

The ICN also made a large territory gain as they pushed deeper towards Abuja. The fighting in the center of the country has been the most extreme, with two of the three factions fighting fiercely over it, believing one who claims Abuja wins the war. The ICN so far have not strongly been harassed by the CSN and thus are using that to their advantage to push the HNA further away from Abuja.

Below is an updated map of the territory shifts
