Today 4 Horizon-Class destroyers arrived at the overseas territory of Il Desiderio, formally La Désirade, that ceded to Italy from France after long negotiations including residents of the island being taught using the French education system and all residents receiving rare French-Italian dual citizenship(This is rare because under normal circumstances one must renounce their former citizenship to receive Italian citizenship). The Italian government hopes that future generations of the island will be fluent in both French and Italian.
The 4 destroyers are visiting the newly incorporated island which will only see a population influx of workers and soldiers at the currently-under-construction airbase, naval base and barracks(Pending the end of the Puertollanoan blockade). The ships also carried out live fire tests in the waters off the coast of Il Desiderio as well as practising evasive maneuvers. The 4 destroyers had to pass through the Puertollanoan blockade which is preventing building supplies from entering the island- it was a tense moment as the destroyers passed the ships.
A parade was held in the capital of Il Desiderio, Grande Anse, with all the crew of all 4 ships on show, the navy also set up information and recruitment booths around for the event to inform the residents about the work of the Marina Militare and to display some of their equipment including free RHIB rides to any residents who wanted a thrill.
The 4 ships travel in formation off the coast of Il Desiderio:
