Ben Müller announces official GU recognition of Piena government in Puertollano

Just days following the potential coup in Puertollano and Chancellor Müller became the first head of state to officially recognize the newly established government. While the situation in Bogota is still evolving, the Chancellor is likely hoping the new government will reverse its course of aggression with the GU. Including a still developing situation over the German Caribbean leftover from the recent war in Galicia.

This move was criticized by some higher ranking officials within both the government and military as while delicate the situation is, should the new status quo fail to get off the ground and the previous administration be restored this would likely lead to more hostilities between the GU and Puertollano.

IN OTHER NEWS-

With less than 2 months until the 2027 elections, the Greater German Party led by Chancellor Müller is expected to win roughly 2/3s the vote in both the lower and upper chambers of the Bundestag and maintain control over the government for 3 more years. However the race for Chancellor is closer as newcomer Catholic Party leader Michael Rummenigge, a former General who claims the German military and ETC are lagging behind in development of the 6th generation fighter. This, according to Rummenigge, is a fatal mistake that could cost Europe the growing cold war with the South Americans. Currently Rummenigge is trailing the Chancellor by 10 points.

The United Republics denounces Puertollanoan coup
July 8th, 2027

The Department of the Exterior officially announced it's denunciation of the Piena government in the Bolivarian Republic, affirming the United Republics recognition of the Alameda government-in-exile. The recent sudden change in power has caught the region by surprise, prompting many in the U.R to speculate whether it is the product foreign interference in the Americas or if it is entirely natural and domestically grown. In a statement the Exterior declared that the "United Republics stands with the Alameda government and does not recognize the Piena government, which had seized power illegally and without respect to both the laws of the Bolivarian Republic and international conduct." The Exterior further added, almost ominously, that "the United Republics will do whatever is necessary to ensure the security of our interests in the area and that foreign interference is minimized, and will take the necessary precautions such that we are able to act in accordance to the ever changing nature of the political crisis in the Bolivarian Republic."

This statement echos along side the sudden mobilization of the Mexican, Yucatan, and Southern Federation armed forces, leading some to speculate the prospect of a military operation. The Central American government, plagued with a year-long political turmoil, also announced the mobilization of it's armed forces to it's border with Panama, purportedly to deter possible aggression by insurgents or government forces should the situation in Puertollano deteriorate; however, due to current political disputes between the government and provinces, the Central American government will not deploy anything major, fearing the lack of military forces in unstable regions may spark unrest.

The United Republics has not announced any official mobilization, however according to sources in the U.R military, the Expeditionary Force and the navy are preparing for a potential operation and that the U.R will likely deploy a 'deterrence force' across the Central American-Panama border alongside it's allies.

The Green Revolution Arrives to San Martinia

Image
28/7/2027 - 20:06 Clarin.com | Economy |

Standing at just 45% of San Martinia’s energy matrix, renewable energies, including solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass, are mostly heavily underused, with only hydropower being used to any significant capacity. The remainder is supplied by coal and natural gas thermal plants, which create 38% of the nation’s carbon emissions.

Despite relative low usages of these renewable energies, San Martinia has some of the world’s best resources; in fact, if utilized correctly, solar and wind power production could exceed all of San Martinian electricity consumption by far. In order too make use of such abundant resources, and to help meet Reykjavik Convention guidelines, the national government has put forward the Green Energy Plan, a comprehensive initiative to reduce carbon emissions from the energy sector by at least half.

This plan outlines a renewable energy transition that will allow San Martinia to completely decommission all coal plants and greatly reduce natural gas plants. It includes development of solar power in the Atacama desert, using photovoltaics and solar thermal technology, and wind power in southern Patagonia using both onshore and offshore wind turbines. These are the best areas in the world for their respective energies. It also includes the creation of energy storage facilities, such as molten salt thermal energy storage and compressed air energy storage, which, together with established hydroelectric facilities, will work to compensate for fluctuations in solar and wind production.

Finally, it also involves the construction of an HVDC supergrid, acting as a renewable energy superhighway due to low energy losses. It will connect major production, storage, and load centers, increasing stability of the existing HVAC transmission grid by self-regulating voltage and frequency and reducing energy surges caused by such fluctuations. The supergrid will, in normal situations, be limited to renewable energy transmission, which, combined with efficiently designed power plants, reduces consumer electricity cost.

This plan, within 5-10 years, is expected to increase renewables to over 70% of the energy matrix. It will set San Martinia as a global leader in renewable energies, thanks to the nation's unique geographic and climactic circumstances. It could also potentially serve as a model for for energy transitions elsewhere, especially in South America, where the potential for renewables is unprecedentedly high across the continent.

After its passing, the plan immediately began to go into effect. Six new solar parks received approval from the provincial governments of Tarapacá and Antofagasta, in addition to the four already in existence nationwide. Additionally, an agreement between the San Martinian and Italian governments was announced to codevelop the wind resources of southern Patagonia, with wind farms already in the planning stage.

Coup in Puertollano?

Image
28/7/2027 - 19:37 Clarin.com | Politics |

Recent events in Puertollano have left international observers stunned, as what many are calling a military coup deposed Castillo-appointed President Alameda, who is now in exile in the FSR, and appointed President Piena, the head of the anti-Castillo opposition in the nation.

Geopolitically, this has dire consequences. Piena's policies seem to represent a great change in FSR-Puertollano relations, breaking the close alliance the two have had for years. It could also signal a weakening of the socialist bloc in the Cold War, as the FSR, its leader, built on the principles of south American unity, now has two ideologically different nations sharing the continent.

Despite this, President Piena’s staunch socially conservative ideas have been deemed near-fascist, while his widespread privatization programs represent a sudden turn in the opposite direction of Castillo’s economic policies. Many San Martinian politicians have come forward to condemn his ethno-religious nationalistic statements, although no parties as of yet have any official opinions on the leadership crisis.

Puertollano-San Martinia relations have been tumultuous for much of recent history, with the administrations of each country holding intense apathy or even open hostility towards one another. President Sánchez especially has led and stoked anti-Castillo sentiments throughout his tenure as president. This change, then, should be met with open arms by the San Martinian government. However, surprisingly, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Amidst a global pandemic and associated economic downturn, Sánchez’s poll numbers have been at their lowest in both of his terms. This comes as public opinion has begun to favor continental cooperation over tense rivalry. By staying silent, Sánchez likely hopes to maintain a balance between his historical pro-European stance and the increasing public desire for distance from the Cold War, as the upcoming election, in which Sánchez is prohibited from running due to term limits, leaves his political alliance in a vulnerable position.

San Martinia’s oficial position so far has been one of neutrality. Neither Alameda or Piena have been recognized as the legitimate president following the crisis. President Sánchez called for a “quick and peaceful transition of power if the Puertollanoan people so choose,” clearly hoping an election would settle the matter. However, he also claimed that military interventions into politics “are inherently problematic.” It is likely that Sánchez sees a Piena-led Puertollano as a potential close ally, but immediate declarations of opposition and threats of military intervention from Pacifica and the FSR have made the situation tricky. San Martinia it seems, has no intention to get involved in the situation until it has stabilized, although some politicians have called for the government to encourage other nations to maintain a policy of non-intervention, claiming that "it is not the responsibility nor the right of nations to intervene in the domestic happenings in Puertollano."

President Witkowski Denounces Piena Government - Invites President Alameda and Cabinet to Warsaw

President Witkowski has broken the media silence on the developments in South America today, by announcing a comprehensive attack on the Piena Government. Despite having few prior diplomatic or economic ties with Puertollano, or its (exiled) president, the coup has struck a chord with many anti-imperialist and 'radical' political factions in the Visegrad Republic. Independent political groups like the Solidarnosc trade union have minor symbolic protests across the country, with street-art installations appearing in major cities across the country, pronouncing support and solidarity with the Alameda government, and the people of Puertollano - larger protests were originally planned, however these were vetoed from within the movement, on account of existing government regulations on social distancing and disease prevention, in light of the current global epidemic.

Image

A pro-Alameda graffiti mural erected in Krakow - the installations have come under attack by some, though the government and police have refused to recognize or prosecute the actions of protesters, instead referring to them as acts of 'political protest, protected by the constitution.'

The President, acting on protests, has not only gone so far as to invite President Alameda and his cabinet to Warsaw, as they have so far remained in diplomatic limbo outside of Puertollano, but he has even gone even further, with a bill passing quickly through the Sejm to officially proscribe the Piena coup, refusing to recognize its legitimacy, and placing sanctions on 'the illegal enterprises of the illegitimate Piena junta, and key figures within it.'. Though it is unlikely that these sanctions from far-off Visegrad will do any great deal of harm to anyone within Puertollano's new regime, President Witkowski has urged other nations to 'resist international plundering', and join Visegrad in placing the most severe diplomatic pressure possible on the Piena junta.

Visegrad Romantic League Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Visegrad Romantic League, a quasi-political 'Folk Revival Movement', lead by public figure and Nobel Literature Prize Winner, Olga Tokarczuk, has celebrated its 10th Anniversary. The League, an organisation dedicated to the pursuit of 'Intellectual and physical excellence, Visegradnik solidarity, and patriotic pursuits', has existed for the past decade as an unusual, and some might say bizarre, group offering a range of pursuits to its members - from reading circles, linguistics and other intellectual pursuits, to hikes, camping and, in more extreme cases, nudist expeditions. Despite this seemingly confused plethora of activities, its message of 'equality between races and sexes', and the pursuit of the creation of a 'new, conscientious, romantic Visegrad national ideal' have struck home with many, and it counts a current membership of ~1,220,000, by far one of the largest non-government sponsored organisations in the country.

Image

However, this lack of sponsorship may be subject to future change. Alongside celebrating its anniversary, its leader and founder, Tokarczuk, has proclaimed the movement's intention to work with Polish, Czech and Slovak linguists in order to create a new, artificial Western Slavic compound language, or 'Zachodnislawok'. She has appealed to the government to assist in this 'great cultural project'. Despite no official response from the government so far, rumours swirl about that President Witkowski may hold talks with the regional governments of Slovakia and Czechia to reach a consensus on what's to be done.

THE POLITICS OF THE FEDERATION TODAY

The struggle in Leticia and Brasilia between the Federation's National Industrial Board and President Fujimori's faction of the government has not been visible to the public. The statesmen in the People's Assembly are always attempting to present an image of unity to the rest of the world despite their deep divisions. The Fujimori faction of the government is positioned against the NIB faction because of basic economic interests and foreign policy interests that come out of those economic interests. The NIB represents the heavy and light industrial workers of the FSR, disproportionately Orostani and typical of Orostan very aggressive against perceived competitors. The bombing scandal in Cape Thetis a few years ago will tell anyone that much. The Fujimori faction however represents Andean interests to a large degree and while influenced by Orostani industrial interests is less dependent on them for support. Fujimori also draws support from major agriculture cooperatives and logistics unions who benefit from his trade policy. At first it might seem as if there is no economic conflict between Fujimori's people and the NIB's, but the NIB has continuously pushed policies that turn any area that isn't an industrial city into a place designed to economically serve those industrial cities. This means the movement of more productive jobs into cities and the relegation of the interior of the country to raw material production and agriculture - industries whose products the NIB wants to keep at a low price.

While all benefit from modernized industry and development, some are clearly benefiting more than others and being forced to an economic order that places them in an uncomfortable spot. The question of Federation politics then isn't "who benefits?", but "who benefits more?". In the days following the coup against Castillo's government in Puertollano the NIB's sometimes violent foreign policy approach aimed at protecting it's economic interests (and the FSR, of course) and Fujimori's more discreet polices clashed, with the mostly Orostani support for the NIB wanting to begin an invasion of the country immediately. If the Puertollan military supported the coup, Puertollano was no longer a reliable ally they argued. Behind closed doors they demanded Fujimori not allow Europe to take advantage of the situation and act first. Fujimori's faction argued that the situation in Puertollano was still unclear. The coup government's hold on the country was tenuous at best and the population was armed and ready to resist that government - not to mention the still unclear loyalties of much of the army. Right now Fujimori's faction has won out to the detriment of the NIB's faction, which to many career bureaucrats in the government who are more interested in maintaining the empire so to speak than pursuing foreign enemies looks less credible than Fujimori's group because of it's typically more costly (to the nation in general) policies.

Military retreats from Caracas

The second-largest city in the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano has be over-run by anti-coup protesters following the military coup that toppled the socialist Alameda government. Many of the poor from the hillside barrios that overlook the city of Caracas marched in protest against the new Piena government, flanked by armed collectivos, campesinos, Indigenous communities, the Communist Party, the Movement Towards Socialism Party joined in arm by many former socialist legislators sacked by the coup government. Security forces attempted to repel the large crowds of Castillo-supporters with tear gas and rubber bullets. However, the masses overran the police barriers and stormed many key organs of government. The garrisoned military units in Caracas were ordered to retreat, as to not engage the protesters directly and instigate further violence. The protesters capture Miraflores Palace, the Presidential Palace of the Bolivarian Republic. In it, the protesters broad-cased messages against the coup government, in which they call "fascists" and "imperialist puppets". In reaction to the transpiring events, Alejandro Piena gave a press conference in the capital of Bogota, assuring the people of Puertollano that his government was still in control. He labelled the protesters that stormed Caracas as "Indigenous mobs" and "communist looters". Self-declared President Piena gave the anti-coup protesters who currently control Caracas and its suburbs, an ultimatum of 24 hours before the military is called in to eliminate any and all resistance. This ultimatum received much support from a gathered group of supporters of the new Conservative government and Piena, they had gathered outside of the National Assembly to re-affirm their support in him.

Breaking News: Protesters Gather Outside Puertollanoan Embassy
Image

Just hours after the anti-Piena opposition in Puertollano overran Caracas, groups gathered outside the Puertollanoan Embassy in Río Colorado, the San Martinian capital. These protesters primarily consisted of Mapuche activists and Alameda sympathizers, calling attention to Piena's threats of militarization against racial and ideological opponents. Indigenous protesters partook in cultural dances and songs, exclaiming that they "will not be erased," while others labelled Piena "a fascist pig."

Ten minutes later, chaos erupted after police forces were called in to dispel the protest, claiming it violated restrictions on public gatherings because of the pandemic. Videos on social media appeared that showed police officers kicking unarmed protesters to the ground. Dozens were hospitalized, and three were arrested, with two of the Mapuche activists being charged with terrorism for alleged connection to the CAM terrorist group.

President Sánchez has not said anything on the matter, despite many decrying the use of excessive force, although he did tweet out a reminder that people should "abstain from social gatherings in the interests of public health."

Kawanese Government eerily quiet over Castillo Coup

Image

As protests erupts in Bogota and cities all across Puertollano, with the recent events in Caracas possibly being one of the stepping stones towards a civil war, HM Kawanese Government, the Foreign and Commonwealth Relations Ministry in particular has been quiet over the issue.
As the South American nation tears down its alliance with the FSR, along with it the ideals of Communism, Germany, one of Bengal’s key ally in Europe has recognised this new organisation that came to the coup.

It is widely believed among political circles that Government House is making parallels between the fascist dictators of Europe which led Europe into war during the 1940s, and President Piena for his ethno-religious-nationalistic statements.

A few protesters, mainly members of the Social Democratic Party have gathered outside the Puertollanoan Embassy in Minato, as well as their Consulate Generals in Seito(Dhaka) and Calcutta to protest against the coup. Police forces observing the protests and maintaining the peace have ensured that protesters maintained social distancing in the interests of public health.

Royal Visit:2028
Image

As part of the post pandemic planning, Government House has announced a Royal Visit by King Charles III into Bengal. This will be Charles’s first visit into Bengal as King of the realm, visitng last time in his former position as the Prince of Wales in 2017 during the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Although not as widely loved in Bengal as His late mother due to certain highly publicised rumours surrounding His and Queen Diana’s marriage and personal life, the King’s visit this year will be of constitutional importance as the Legislative Council will petition the King for the appointment of a Governor-General, for the first time since 1974.

During the military coup of 1974, the military dictatorship got rid of the official position of Governor General as Head of State, and combined his political powers with that of the Prime Minister, with the PM becoming both Head of State and Head of Government, while leaving the status of the monarchy in question. After the Sunflower Revolution of 1982, as democracy was restored into Bengal, and the Queen was recognised again as Head of State, the Governor Generalship and the position of the Head of Government remained with the Prime Minister, with subsequent governments doing little to change it. After the events of 2025 in which the National Party led government behaved in a semi dictatorial way, all political parties currently holding seats in the Legislative Council barring National are unanimously united in the appointment of a non-partisan representative of His Majesty the King.

Visegrad Red Cross Arrives in Puerttolano

Postby Nowa Polonie » Fri Aug 14, 2020 8:26 am

Visegrad Red Cross (WCK/VCK) Arrives in Puerttolano

Dispatched last week with support from President Witkowski, the Visegrad Red Cross, an amalgamation of the prior Polish, Slovak and Czech Red Cross organisations, has arrived in Puertollano in order to provide medical and social services in the wake of ongoing political turmoil, and potential denial of medical services by the Piena Regime to anti-coup protesters. The acting leader of the WCK/VCK, Ola Borek, has arrived to personally conduct efforts in Caracas, where the organisation is helping to distribute PPE to protesters in the wake of the ongoing global pandemic. The WCK/VCK is working alongside protest organisers to ensure that those injured during protests receive prompt attention from their on-site medical staff. Despite this, Ms. Borek has described the mission to Puertollano as apolitical, and has denied allegations that the organisation supports the protest.

President Witkowski Announces 'Hel Energy & Ecology Conference' to be held in Summer 2028

Since 2010, Algal Bloom, and the resulting de-oxygenation that results, have increasingly become an issue on the Baltic Sea, especially along the Polish coastline, where runoff from local agricultural land - in a very agricultural country - created exceptional displays this Summer, where a decrease in swimmers and motor-boats allowed huge deposits of algae to form. Inhabitants of the village of Hel, usually a booming resort location for inhabitants of nearby cities like Danzig, displayed pictures of eerily green sea-water. Algal bloom in the Baltic Sea has been described as a problem for 'decades' by researchers, but as part of ongoing efforts to curb the problem, President Witkowski has announced that the Visegrad government is organizing a conference to be held in the village of Hel in the year to come.

Image

A particularly egregious example of a picture taken by amateur pilot, Lev Kamanets, near the coastal city of Zoppot. The problem of algal bloom, in combination with the SARS H-11 virus, has threatened the Baltic Sea's reputation as a tourist location, especially in Poland.

While the conference cannot be held this year, on account of the SARS H-11 pandemic, President Witkowski has arranged for a battery of new legislation to see the floor of the Sejm chambers - though with a coalition majority in the Sejm until 2030, it is unlikely to see significant challenges. Two news laws have already come into effect with popular demand powering them - one banning the use of nitrate-rich fertilizer within 120km of the Baltic shoreline, and the other, championed by the Agricultural Ministry, creating a zł 130,000,000 fund to be created in order to build 'several in-land water processing plants, thousands of miles of new canals and water-ways and 3,800 new jobs in water treatment.', as a long-term solution to the problem not only of algal bloom within the Baltic Sea, but within the Visegrad interior.

Image

President Witkowski has said that the problem of algal bloom and eutrophication in the Baltic Sea is reaching a crisis-point, pointing to examples of so-called 'dead zones' endemic to the Western Baltic, and pointing to particular trans-Atlantic examples on the American Eastern Seaboard as 'a portent of the future if immediate action isn't taken.'. Speaking to reporters outside the Sejm, President Witkowski referred to the Baltic Sea as a 'Resource held in common by all Baltic nations, with problems that must also be held in common.'. He appealed particularly to his counterparts in the Nordic countries, Germany and Russia to help put together an effective pan-Baltic effort to reduce, and ultimately remove, the damage being done to the ecology of 'the world's youngest sea.'.

Karlskrona-Gdansk Treaty between Federation and Visegrad announced
A landmark treaty has been drafted between the only two socialist governments in continental Europe in order to foster a greater degree of cooperation between the Visegrad Union and the Nordic Federation. Prime Minister Sassa Karstensen has called the treaty one of the most important steps ever taken in Cross-Baltic cooperation, and that it will be the most comprehensive treaty the Federation has entered outside of the Eurozone since the Greenland Proclamation.

The treaty includes provisions for freer trade, the movement of workers and students, as well as cultural cooperation. Similar to deals made with the URT and France, the treaty allows for student exchange programs visa-free, as well as the exchange of culture between the two nations in the freest way possible. Many scholars are expecting this deal, especially with the amount of funding the Next Left party seems willing to put behind it, the beginning of a new "Baltic Renaissance"

Surprisingly, the deal also includes provisions to integrate the energy infrastructure of the two countries. PM Karstensen has stated that cooperation with another nation will make the collectivization of power plants and infrastructure in the country, not only easier and more efficient, but more sustainable in the long term as well. As the Federation's government goes through the process of acquiring the last vestiges of private nuclear, wind, solar, and hydropower companies, it is expected they will be rolled into a single, jointly-administered agency under both the Nordic and Visegradian government.

An official signing ceremony for the deal is expected to occur later this year as terms are finalized.

Image
An image of the historic city of Karlskrona, expected to be the epicentre of new development

In tandem with this deal, the Ministry of Infrastructure has announced the construction of the world's largest underwater rail tunnel, which will provide for direct transportation between Stockholm and Warsaw in less than 6-hours, and will be fully integrated with the Intercontinental Railway. Nearly kr. 16 billion is being devoted to development along the Southern Kalmarian coast as well- expected to be used primarily to build hotels, restaurants, and services to attract a large quantity of tourists.

The long-term goals of the project are to revitalize the mostly rural region of Skane, and provide opportunities for the unique culture of the area to shine, becoming a beacon to travellers from Europe and all over the world. The government estimates that, between the rail tunnel and infrastructure projects, the total cost will near kr. 68 billion dollars.

Largest foreign arms deal in Nordic history signed off by Next Left- more military development to come
The Ministry of Defence published an official statement today showing the purchase of nearly $45 billion in military assets from a foreign power. Exact details have not been disclosed yet, but the Next Left has been pushing bills forward in the National Assembly which would create one of the largest military build-ups in Nordic history. So far, plans include nearly $100 billion in funding for the navy, with an additional $2 billion dollars for the army and air force.

The information so far released about the funding seems to suggest it will be used to continue many of Admiral Alfhild Ramussen's goals for the navy, including the commissioning of a new class of destroyer, a new design for a helicopter carrier to operate in the Baltic, and expansions of critical defences on the mainland.

Minister of Defense Gustaf Vonnegut has stated the new military funding will absolutely not take away from important expansions to social welfare made in recent years, not would it interfere with the ongoing nationalization efforts of the government. He continued that it would be part of a "comprehensive new strategy to defend the Federation from all foes who should meet it, making our borders bulletproof to all but those we want in our nation."

The Conservative and Centre parties have largely been supportive of the deal, but members of the ruling coalition, both Communist and Social Democrat, have expressed major concerns over this sudden spike in military spending. Public opinion polls on the arms deal show an approval of around 32% with 44% being ambivalent, while the domestic military expenditure has around 48% with 22% being ambivalent.

Nationalization plans kick into high gear
Today, the largest steps so far in the Next Left's blueprint for nationalization have been taken. The pharmaceutical companies, lumber yards, mines, and metal processing industry were all included in a bill passed by the Assembly today, which will see their operations shut down over the next month as ownership is transferred to worker's boards.

Image
Boreal Metals HQ in Bergen

Boreal Metals mining will be the first to shut down, in just seven days. The executives of the company have been highly active on social media, protesting the fact the government is giving them no compensation, and calling the nationalization effort an "illegal seizure of private property".

The Prime Minister responded in an official statement:
Our plan for nationalization was supported by a majority of Nords because they realize the executives in these industries have been extracting surplus value from hardworking citizens for too long. In the case of Boreal mining, these executives have been receiving unjustly high compensation for several decades off the backs of underpaid workers. This is an important step in creating the Scandinavia of tomorrow, one based not on arbitrary goals of paper growth and appeasing market forces, but instead on the core ideal of equality.

The Ministry of Finance has already suspended trading on Boreal Metals' stock, and notified in writing all investors that their stake in the company will be considered invalid. In seven days time, the Ministry will issue certificates of Employment to all employees of the company, while our other ministries coordinate the election of a Worker's Board to govern the company from this point forward. In the future, workers holding these certificates of Employment will be entitled to compensation based on the fair value of their labor.

Foreign Minister comments on the situation in Puertollano
Minister Ben Voss echoed the sentiments expressed on the floor of the national assembly in a television address to the Nordic people today, pledging to support the popular government in Puertollano, and offer humanitarian aid to the fullest extent possible.

It is no secret that, in addition to the Atlantic Ocean, we are separated from South America by tensions and hostility. Yet, it is also no secret that injustice cannot be tolerated no matter where it exists. The illegal overthrow of President Alameda's government is an unacceptable violation of the right of the people in Puertollano to govern themselves. No matter their ideological differences from us, people in every corner of this globe have the irrevocable right to sovereignty and to be free from oppression. Beyond this illegal military action in contrary to every tenet of democracy, the response of our Southern neighbours to this crisis has been especially concerning. We want the people of Puertollano to know that, no matter what conflict may exist between us, the Nordic Federation stands in total opposition to this coup, and will try to the best of our ability to provide support in these difficult times.

Image

As the statement was delivered on television, two medical ships donated by the Nordic Navy holding nearly 8,000 medical personnel from various humanitarian organizations, the Nordic Red Cross, and even military volunteers to NGO's departed the port in Kristiansand heading for South America. One is expected to dock in Caracas, while the other will go to the major port of Buenaventura on the Pacific Coast.

Minister Voss also mentioned that, upon arrival, Nordic humanitarian assets would be in close cooperation with those sent from other DEU nations and Visegrad.

Bengal dumps Imperial. Goes Metic.

Image

The sun has finally set on Kawa’s usage of the Imperial System of measurement. Bengal is one of the last countries in Asia, alongside Burma to use Imperial System in an officially mandated capacity, and is widely used in both private and public life as a continued legacy of British values in Bengal.
However, as part of the Bengal-Eurozone Integration Treaty signed last year, Bengal will have to align itself to European consumer laws and standards. One of the conditions set was the metrication of Bengal, with the Imperial System being replaced.

The government yesterday morning has turned this clause of the treaty into law, with the Weights and Measurement Act of 2027 officially passing the Legislative Council by a slim margin. This morning, the Metric Commission, the government agency responsible for implementation of Metric in the country has held an establishment ceremony at the Home Affairs Building. HM Government has named Stuart Hanamura as the head of the agency.
According to published guidelines, released by Government House this morning, the Metrication Project will “go along with our Imperial form of measurement”, with the Metric Commission ensuring that Metric is used alongside Imperial in all aspects where measurements take place within the country, except education, which has remained Metric since the Education Reform Act 1985.

A timeline has also been introduced, within which the Metric Commission must achieve the Metrication of certain specified sectors.
-By December 2029, all national highway road signs must have metric and Imperial signage, prefectural and metropolitan roads must follow suit by 2035
-All cars sold within British Kawa from January 1, 2028 must show speeds in both km/h and mph, with mph being shown prominently until December 31st, 2032, after which the arrangement will be brought before public question. Distance may be shown at the unit of choice of the customer.
-All products where measurements are used on packaging, sold in British Kawa after December 31st 2027 must show both Metric and Imperial labelling.
-Television broadcasting and weather services must provide metric measurements along with Imperial. Internet services may provide users a choice to toggle between Metric and Imperial

Certain conservative elements in Bengal are wary of metrication, with those on the left citing the cost behind the metrication project, asserting that the money going into it should be put into the NHS and other social welfare programs.

Legislative Council divided over whom to nominate as Governor-General as Royal Visit approaches.

As the Royal Visit by HM King Charles III approaches, political parties within the Legislative Council are split between method of choosing the Governor-General, who will be appointed by the King during the Royal Visit to Bengal.

This year’s visit will be of constitutional significance as well, for the King will give his assent to the Royal Letter Patent of 2027, which will replace the Kawanese Constitution of 1976 instituted by the military junta of the times, as well as appoint a Governor-General to undertake the King’s constitutional responsibilities in Bengal.
Political parties within the Legislative Council, each adhering to their respective ideologies are divided in the question of the method that will be used to nominate the Governor-General to the King.

The ruling Constitutional Democrats advocate for nominating a broad number of people, from which the King will choose whomever he thinks will represent him to the Bengal in the best way possible, and execute the King’s responsibilities to Bengal.
The Conservatives are advocating for letting the King choose without any input from the government.
The opposition Social Democrats are advocating for putting the issue of the Governor-General to a popular vote, with the winner of the election/plebsicle being nominated to the King for appointment.
The fringe communist Labour and the Greens are demanding an abandonment of the monarchy itself, and the establishment of a Republic.

It is widely believed that that the issue will not be solved in the Legislative Council itself, and will be moved onto a House Committee .

Construction Continues of Trans-Baltic Tunnel

Image

Relations between the Nordic Union, and the Visegrad counterpart, have seen a zenith in recent years - and more recently, with the ascension of the New Left in Scandinavia, these links can only grow stronger. The physical representation of this link has for the past while been the Trans-Baltic Tunnel, connecting the two countries through what is at current the largest under-water tunnel made by human means. A marvel of engineering, the tunnel acts not only as an infrastructure link, with high-speed train tunnels, but also as an energy pipeline between the two energy exporters, facilitating the transport of Nordic energy into Poland (which has increasingly begun to purchase Nordic green energy while domestic energy infrastructure undergoes a transformation away from the coal-powered past that dominated the energy market of Poland and Czechia-Slovakia).

Image

The project has become a source of both cooperation and contention within the Visegrad government - as it falls under the mandate of both the Diplomatic, Infrastructure, Transport and Energy Ministries, it has all the hallmark bureaucratic grumblings that such a mega-project brings. Despite this, it is also seen by many idealists within government as an internationalist effort with a fellow left-wing state to create infrastructure for the benefit of the world, and for those more cynically minded inhabitants in the halls of power as a prestige project, that will help to cement Visegrad's soft-power as an indispensable piece in the puzzle of modern Europe's energy, one backed by Zl22,000,000,000 this year alone.

Alameda returns - military units defect coup government

President-In-Exile Desiree Alameda returned to the Bolivarian Republic through the Puertollano-FSR border and spoke with supporters of the socialist resistance from Miraflores Palace, the seat of executive power in the country. With her return and building street violence in cities like Bogota and Quito, key units aligned with the conservative government have defected and re-iterated their support for the elected government of Puertollano. The shifting tides of the power balance in the Bolivarian Republic is beginning to favour the socialist forces again, as the new coup Ministers of Information and Defense have been arrested, along with the new coup Vice-President. These key figures in the coup government were apprehended by members of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces, led by rebel former Minister of Defense Vladimir Lopez. After that, countless more units broke ties with the coup government and flows of protesters were allowed into major cities to overtake several Ministerial buildings, including the National Assembly and the Supreme Court. Pro-socialist protesters stormed the newly-stacked Supreme Court and arrested the Judges, one judge was shot and killed. It was reported that self-declared President Piena escaped by Presidential helicopter from his compound in Bogota and since the air-force has been activated to track him down. Despite pressures from the grass-roots to shoot him out of the sky when they identify him, the Armed Forces intends to arrest him. President Alameda has re-asserted her position as President, being inaugurated briefly in front of national television.

Even with most of the military folding and re-joining the President, there are still multiple hold-outs and key figures in the coup government on the run.

United Empire Loyalist Day celebrated across Bengal to mark the arrival of 9600 Canadian Military servicemen.
Image

Schools and communities across the country have raised the Maple Leaf flag to observe United Empire Loyalist Day, to mark 43 years since the republican coup in Canada, and the arrival of 9600 Canadian Forces servicemen, and thousands of citizens afterwards, to Bengal.
Image

In 1984, 3 infantry units of the Canadian Army under Colonel Robert Hammond, and 3 vessels of the Royal Canadian Navy under Commodore Matthew Pearson, refused to pledge allegiance to the new Hyper Democratic Canadian state, and headed east for the Commonwealth Realms. Although these military units were refused asylum in the ANZAC countries over fears of straining relations of the new order taking power in Ottawa, they were taken in by Bengal, which itself restored its link to the Commonwealth and Queen Elizabeth II as Head of State to years prior.

Following their arrival, thousands of Canadians, often family members of these Canadian Forces servicemen, as well as dissidents who disagreed with the new Canada, eventually arrived in Bengal. These refugees were known as United Empire Loyalists, named after the Loyalists during the American Revolution of 1776 who fled north to Canada following the British defeat in the Battle of Yorktown, and the subsequent retreat from the 13 Colonies.

Indigenous Tensions Rise
Image

Tensions are continuing to brew as protests in Temuco continue for the third day, despite the ongoing quarantine. Initially starting as a response to Temuco police's anti-Mapuche policies and the Puertollanoan presidency of blatantly anti-indigenous Piena, these protests have devolved into riots as violent clashes with police have led to widespread injuries, arrests, and some deaths. Many activists self-identify as Mapuche, and have decried the Temuco police department's use of "excess force" and "discriminatory practices," citing the notable recent death of Nahuel Muñoz. Police in return have punished protesters for violating restrictions on public gatherings, inciting violence, assaulting police officers, disrupting the public, and vandalizing property.

The protests are the first major instances of a reignition of the Mapuche conflict, which pitted Mapuche activists and sometimes terrorists against municipal, provincial, and federal governments in search of equality they claim is currently out of reach. However, it has also ignited a political and interprovincial conflict as authority figures differ on how to approach the situation. Leaders of the Wallmapu Autonomous Republic have long claimed that the inclusion of the Temuco conurbation into their boundaries is legally required based on the principle of racial-ethnic pluralities employed in the Republic's creation. However, the province of Concepción maintains that such a principle was only used as a "guiding factor" when determining borders, and that censuses do not align with Wallmapu's position.

Now, Wallmapu is seen as a safe haven for many protesters during police crackdowns. Many cross the border, which is just outside the city, and are welcomed to supply stations with medical aid, food, and water. However, municipal police forces in Wallmapu have consistently denied access to Temuco police officers attempting to arrest those within the border. Wallmapu, as the nation's only Autonomous Republic, has residency agencies independent of the federal government's, and as such has a right to deny entry to non-residents. However, a federal judge has ruled that Wallmapu authorities must allow safe passage on federal roads, to ensure the security of transportation corridors between Concepción's non-contiguous parts. Despite this, the showdown continues, with the current Concepción v. Wallmapu lawsuit concerning the latter's alleged harboring of criminals still in litigation.

There has been no official statement by any Wallmapu leaders on the protests. However, some consider the government as their benefactor, claiming that it is attempting to stir up anti-white sentiments among indigenous communities. One conspiracy theory, popular among fringe groups, labels Wallmapu as the organizer of a nationwide indigenous revolution.

This comes as indigenous groups in the Gran Chaco region have initiated their own process of obtaining autonomy, with the various Mataco-Guaicuru peoples (including the Toba, Wichí, Mocoví, Pilagá, Chorotí, Nivaclé), petitioning for their own autonomous republic on ancestral lands. United by geographic circumstances, cultural traditions, and two main languages (Qom and Wichí), they number over half a million nationwide, far less than their Mapuche counterparts. However, after unsuccessful year-long protests against encroachment of mass-production agriculture, leaders have called autonomy "the only viable option."

Reactions have been varied across the political spectrum. President Sánchez has wholeheartedly offered his support for "all those suffering from discrimination," but also characterized the ongoing violent protests as "an ineffective method of communicating effectively." Besides these generalizing statements, he has formally requested an investigation into Temuco police's use of force and aims to visit the city soon to "bring order to the situation". Senator Sofia Martínez, his presidential opponent in 2025 and likely presidential candidate for 2029, has criticized his "laissez-faire approach," claiming that "President Sanchez does not care about indigenous people."

Instead, she has introduced an "Indigenous Restoration Bill," which she claims will greatly benefit indigenous peoples nationwide. The bill mandates a binding referendum in Greater Temuco on political status, the establishment of Mataco-Guaicuru autonomy, a requirement of availability of bilingual education in indigenous languages where appropriate (most especially large cities and the north), and the creation of a Ministry of Indigenous Affairs.

The bill, despite its ambitious outlooks, is likely doomed to fail in the Chamber of Deputies, in the President's hands, or in the legal system. Chief among its issues is a lack of pre-established approval and cooperation from provincial authorities. A binding referendum in Greater Temuco and the creation of a Mataco-Guaicuru autonomous republic would require permission from Concepción, Salta, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, and Santa Fe, and governors of three of these provinces have stated that they were not consulted for or even aware of the bill until it was presented.

Additionally, the bill includes no provisions for economic assistance to indigenous peoples, which are among the poorest in the nation. Several well-publicized cases of death by malnutrition of Mataco-Guaicurun children have drawn attention to the issue of a lack of infrastructure in the area, including medical but also educational, transport, and (traditional) agricultural. As such, some indigenous activists have called the bill "a great semantic victory," but "with no real benefits." Many of these have called the San Martinian state "inherently anti-indigenous" due to institutionalized discrimination, highlighting the recent court disputes involving Wallmapu, and called for complete secession, although no political bodies have endorsed this.

President Sánchez, for his part, has not commented further on the protests, the lawsuit, or the bill. To do so, according to some, would be "political suicide." Commenting support for any of them would lose him many right-wing, nationalistic supporters who consider such indigenous problems either imaginary or deserved, while commenting against would put him at odds with an increasingly powerful indigenous movement and, according to some polls, the majority of the population.

Visegrad Romantic League Holds 'Solidarity Marches'

Postby Nowa Polonie » Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:00 pm

Visegradnik Romantic League & Unions Stage 'Solidarity Marches' Across The Republic

Mounting global protests, particularly in South America, have been a fixture in the public mind of the Visegrad Republic for some time now - the pre-eminently Socialist, pan-nationalist ideals of many South American states, and their struggle both historically and in the modern day against the influence of their wealthier neighbours is something that has captured the imagination of many in Visegrad, who identify it with their own historical struggles for political independence. This hasn't gone un-noticed by the federal government, and prioritising aid to countries like Puertollano have become popular policy with the people in Visegrad. However, some have argued that not enough is being done by the government to provide 'counter-imperialist' aid to South America, beyond the supply of voluntary assistance, primarily in the form of doctors, and have said that unless more is done, then any aid provided to South America in its struggle for socialism will prove 'empty'. No organisation has taken up this attitude more however, than the Visegrad Romantic League, a semi-political and semi-social movement. Driven by a sense of righteous indignation at current 'injustices' in South America, a general patriotic feeling in the midst of the 38th Anniversary of the '89 'Autumn of Nations' when the constituent republics of Visegrad slipped from the influence of the Soviet Union, and the 38th Anniversary of victory in the Autumn Elections that established the Third Republic of Poland, it has culminated in a season of semi-spontaneous public demonstrations across the country.

Image

Estimates have varied on attendance anywhere between the hundreds of thousands, to several million, however within larger cities, particularly those with large student populations, demonstrations are regular, and large in number. The government has responded with the deployment of additional 'municipal wardens', temporary volunteer organisers to assist organisers and provide other on-site assistance. While all protests are vocally supportive of providing support to the ongoing social struggles of South America, opinions are disperse on what that actually means - to most, it would mean increased financial support to South America, and stronger diplomatic ties, though voices within this faction have been made every effort to self-moderate language, all too aware from recent history that its more bellicose European neighbours may react to such policy forcefully.

Image

Transcript of an on-site interview given to Tomas Hlinka, student leader in Slovakia

Interviewer: ''What do you suppose the policy of the government should be towards South America?
Tomas: ''I think that current policy does not do enough - we talk of support for these social movements in South America, we denounce the regimes that maintain imperialism there, but we stop there. We send volunteers and doctors, but these do not solve the problem, they only alleviate it.''
Int: ''And does this mean measures as far as.. military support? How far is far enough exactly?''
Tom: ''Well, we cannot risk our own safety, of course. We should not go as far as war, but there is no reason we cannot provide further aid - financial support to alleviate the foreign influence of debt on these countries.. it is not for us to say exactly what we can do to help, but the government should engage in dialogue with our South American comrades, to ask them what we can do.''

Students in Prague belonging to the 'Visegrad Pioneer League', a small but vocally radical Socialist student group, staging a mock deployment of one of their 'Solidarity Brigades' to South America. Though Visegrad has no armed volunteers in South America, the rhetoric of particularly hard-line and adventurist youth groups has advocated a romanticised ideal of armed internationalist support for South America.

La República

Creation of FUNAI: Last week, President Fujimori authorized the creation of the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI), a governmental agency meant to manage the FSR relations with its unsettled indigenous population. This marks a turn of policy within the Federation, leading some to speculate that the FSR may take a more conciliatory attitude towards indigenous communities which refuse to integrate with society. Due to concerns of introducing the SARS-H11 virus to indigenous communities, most of the FUNAI's activities is expected to be delayed until further notice, except those meant for pandemic relief.

Alameda's Return: The recent coup d'état attempt in Puertollano sent shock waves around the world. The coup was ultimately foiled when pro-socialist forces rallied under Desiree Alameda, the constitutional President-In-Exile. However, San Martinian President Sánchez's remarks on the crisis have caught the eyes of many outside observers. The FSR Ambassador to San Martinia has stated that its unacceptable that Sánchez tried to downplay and water down the military coup which placed Piena in power, while calling the restoration of constitutional order a "military-led rise to power." He added on that such remarks would damage diplomatic relations between the FSR and San Martinia, and lessen opportunities for future cooperation. Some Twitter users believe that Sánchez's latest remark was an attempt to rally up right-wing support, amid his declining approval ratings.

Foreign Partnership: Embratel has lately announced that it has secured a joint-venture with Visegrad for cooperation in satellite technology. Embratel's subsidiary cooperative, Star One, one of the most prestigious satellite cooperatives in the world, will be put in charge of the joint-venture. Further details are expected to come out soon from Visegrad sources. Many think that this marks the start of greater Visegrad-FSR economic cooperation.

Smart Grids: As per the Third-Five Year Plan's aim for increased energy efficiency, the NIB has authorized a plan to construct a clean and comprehensive smart grid network across the FSR, which would ultimately connect the various regional grids currently present throughout the vast country. Investments will also be made towards power-system automation, energy efficient appliances, and renewable energy, among other stuff. However, the NIB that despite the increased investment towards renewable energy, it is still not expected to displace nuclear power as the FSR's main power source.

Destroyer Buildup: While previously discussed, schematics for a new stealth destroyer, dubbed the Fortaleza-class, have finally been approved. In addition to the original designs, the final schematics have seen the inclusion of integrated electric propulsion, and future-proofing to allow the later installment of lasers or electromagnetic railguns. A total of 40 Fortaleza-class destroyers are planned, with 8 destroyers to be constructed per year. Furthermore, the two aircraft carriers currently under construction, are set to enter service in the second quarter of 2029. The next part of the FSR naval buildup will involve fielding new attack submarines and hypersonic missiles.

Base Consolidation: As part of FSR's military plan to reinvent itself into a dynamic force, the FSR will be drastically reducing its number of foreign bases and consolidating them in key areas. The FSR will gradually withdraw all of its forces from the SRC over the next four years. Additionally, the FSR will also shift the way in which military aid to the SRC and Angola is used. From now on, military aid to these countries will be focused on helping them operate by their own, and helping them build up a domestic arms industry. In Guinea-Bissau, FSR forces will be reduced from to 8,500 troops. However, seven new foreign bases will be established. Two permanent naval bases will be set up in Angola and Madagascar, each housing a destroyer and submarine squadron. Two permanent air bases will be set up in Madagascar and Rwanda, each housing two air squadrons and support aircraft. Furthermore, two ground bases will be set up in Mozambique and Madagascar, each base will house 9,200 troops.

La República

Vaccine Introduced: Scientists working on a SARS-H11 vaccine cried with joy, as news came out that a vaccine had finally passed through all the developmental trials, and was now ready for public use. Pharmacists point out that the relatively quick development time for a vaccine was helped by the FSR's prior experience with developing a vaccine for the previous Zackarothian Flu. Already, plans have been made for mass production and distribution. Thus, as the vaccine becomes available in enough quantity to establish herd immunity, the FSR will be able to start Phase III of its pandemic plan, including lifting social distancing measures.

Drone Research: For years, the FSR had lagged behind other world powers in the area of drone development. Some credit this issue to the time when an Orostani prototype drone tank accidentally "invaded" French Guiana during 2016, saying that the incident discouraged further drone development. However, the FSR is now back in the drone race, as the military has ordered new prototypes for UAVs, UUVs, and UGVs. However, it'll likely take a while before the FSR's small drone fleet will get reinforcements. On the other hand, the NIB is looking forward to introducing agricultural and delivery drones into service, which they believe will increase economic productivity.

Alliance for Peace: A political shakeup occurred as the Green Party, Libertarian Party, Social Democratic Party, and the fringe Liberal Party joined forces to form the so-called Alliance for Peace. The political coalition claims that the ongoing Cold War with Europe has brought nothing but suffering to the citizens of the FSR, and thus demands an end to the Cold War. The Alliance has yet to present a full manifesto, but will likely do so before the upcoming electoral midterms. Many have called the Alliance for Peace a treasonous organization and demanding its leaders be hanged. Reportedly, the parts of the Socialist Party were in discussion to join the Alliance for Peace. However, the Socialist Party has faced internal turmoil ever since the disastrous Galicia War occurred during their first time in government. Now, the Socialist Party faces large defections to the Communist Party from anti-imperialist members. The future of the Socialist Party is now in doubt.

SDB: In a bid to consolidate FSR's foreign aid efforts, the FSR has announced that future economic aid programs will be carried out through the newly founded Southern Development Bank. The multilateral development bank will attempt to improve economic integration and socio-economic outcomes within the Second World, and offer aid through low-interest loans, credits, and professional advice. The FSR has pledged to contribute $500 billion to the Southern Development Bank over the next twenty-five years. In addition to the organization's founding objectives, the SDB also currently prioritizes, in decending order, helping member states recover from the SARS-H11 pandemic, financing the reconstruction of Angola and the Socialist Republic of the Congo, and tackling poverty and income inequality in Namibia.

TeleSur Funding: Under previous administrations TeleSur had been largely defunded, and left to rely mainly on Puertollanese funding. However, under the Fujimori administration, the FSR has found newfound importance for TeleSur. The FSR will now be contributing $500 million annually to TeleSur's budget, which in addition to Puertollanese funding and TeleSur's revenues will allow for TeleSur to improve its production quality and expand its global coverage. In particular, expanding TeleSur into Asian and African markets will be seen as the main priority. It's noted that it's of vital importance that TeleSur diversifies its media operations. From television to radio towers, satellite dishes, and the internet, TeleSur will offer a wide variety of methods that can be used to access its content.

Sánchez in Temuco
Image

President Sánchez just recently arrived in Temuco to put an end to the increasingly unstable situation, with Mapuche activists clashing with police forces. Much of his visit was primarily spent behind closed doors, meeting with Wallmapu leaders, Temuco officials, police officers, and activists. It's been termed his "greatest diplomatic success" by supporters, but many disagree.

Although this meeting, according to Sánchez administration officials, "has resolved the conflict," the situation is still unstable. The meeting led to the suspension of all officers facing charges of excess force and trespassing into Wallmapu, pending investigations. Meanwhile, protesters hiding out in Wallmapu are to be transferred to Temuco police if they are charged with crimes worthy of jail time (like arson), while all others will have their charges dropped. Additionally, he has publicly called for the resignation of the Temuco police chief. Sánchez has also denied those calling or him to send national military forces to quell unrest, calling such actions "unnecessary and counterproductive."

In the short-term, it seems that Sánchez has sided with the Mapuche on the issue. However, critics have brought attention to more long-term inadequacies, namely the lack of a solution to the Temuco issue. In fact, his arrival seems to have only worsened the conflict.

Along all major roads out of the city, Temuco and Wallmapu police forces stand guard on opposite sides of the border, inspecting all vehicles attempting to cross and, in some cases, engaging in disputes with one another. Wallmapu officials, on the other hand, have officially claimed Temuco as part of the Republic, while Concepción maintains it is an integral city of the province. Protests have spread to major Chilean cities, especially Santiago, Concepción, and Valdivia, where large Mapuche communities are "standing in solidarity with their brothers and sisters." None have received the kind of violent pushback seen in Temuco as of yet.

The leader of Wallmapu, Aucaman Millaman, has called the situation "untenable" and said that the San Martinian government "must reform and end its indigenous oppression." He has also formed the San Martinian League of Indigenous Peoples, to coordinate and represent their struggles. Additionally, he has officially endorsed the Wichí/Qom bid for autonomy, and, reportedly, asked for help on the international stage to pressure the national government into taking concrete action. His requests apparently have not gone unanswered; a Polish embassy is to be established in Lautaro (the current Wallmapu capital, just outside Temuco), providing medical aid and advisory personnel for Mapuche police.

The governor of Concepción, a former staunch Sánchez ally, has worsened anti-Mapuche rhetoric. He labelled the events in Temuco "a reult of Wallmapu-funded instigators and criminals" and called for the removal of Millaman from office for his "attempts at destabilization." He condemned the "Polish intervention into domestic disputes," labeling the European state's recent actions "a neo-colonialist attempt to intensify the issue." He has also commended Temuco police department for their "courage in the face of violent adversity," criticizing Sánchez's "alliance with indigenous outlaws."

As Sánchez appears to have angered both sides of a controversial issue, many are calling for his resignation, claiming his mishandling of the situation has only escalated tensions. His current approval levels are their worst of both terms, and the Republican Party has announced their intention to dissolve their political alliance with Sanchez's Independent Democratic Union for the next election cycle.

Political opponents have been quick to capitalize on this moment. Senator Sofía Martínez has announced her bid for the 2029 presidency, promising to run alongside a Mapuche Vice President and responding to criticisms of her Indigenous Restoration Bill with "I see you, I hear you, and I will work to elevate your voices and concerns." Still, she's facing pushback for that bill, which failed by a large margin in the Chamber of Deputies. They denied Wichí/Qom autonomy due to a lack of "treaties with the San Martinian government outlining such" and no "pre-Colombian established political, economic, and military organization setting a precedence, like the Mapuche." They also denied the establishment of a Ministry of Indigenous Affairs, as that is "outside the scope of legislative powers, but rather the right of the executive." Finally, they denied a binding referendum in Temuco because of "opposition from Concepcion authorities."

The Mapuche conflict, then, has simply escalated and has no peaceful resolution in sight. Activists call for the incorporation of Greater Temuco into Wallmapu, the removal of the Temuco police chief and officers with a history of racist discrimination and brutality, and a reformation of the national government with emphasis on increased indigenous representation and political power. Although they have the political support of many, their main opponents - and the ones with the necessary power - have either given contradictory messages (as in the presidential administration) or outright denial (as in Concepción and Temuco).

3 people shortlist for Governor-General nominees released by Legislative Council Standing Committee

As the Royal Visit is inching closer, HM Kawanese Government has been tasked by His Majesty the King to nominate candidates for the position of the Governor-General in accordance with the “Governor-General Nomination Act of 1969”.

Under current procedures, the government may nominate a number of candidates for the position of Governor-General, although the list of nominees has to be approved by the Legislative Council, after which, the reigning monarch will review those nominees and choose his representative to Bengal.
For this term, the list of nominees has been prepared by the Legislative Council Standing Committee for the Nomination of the Governor-General to His Majesty the King. Polling of Legislative Councillors have led us to believe that the list will pass through the Legislative Council with a majority vote.
The LegCo Standing Committee has nominated Sir Robert Hammond, Marianne Hiragi and Alistair Kei to HM the King for the position of Governor General.

Sir Robert Hammond, aged 80, is of Canadian descent, an ex-Colonel in the Canadian Army, and have continued to serve in the Royal Bengal Ground Defence Forces until his retirement as a Major-General. He is known to have led 8400 Canadian Army troops with him in a perilous maritime journey to Bengal as the Dominion of Canada collapsed. He is also known to have led counter-terrorism operations against Burmese insurgents launching attacks from Burma into Bengal, using his experience gained in the lengthy operation to become eventually become a guerrilla warfare instructor in the National Defence Academy.

Dame Marianne Hiragi, aged 45, the youngest nominee is the first Kawanese female astronaut to go to space. Originally an ace pilot in the Royal Bengal Air-Defence Force, Dame Hiragi eventually transferred to the Bengal Aeronautical Exploration Agency, and has spent 15 days in temporary space station Hanako, being a part of a team that fixed misaligned geostationary satellites above Bengal.

Alistair Kei, aged 65, is the most controversial nominee, for he is the primary shareholder and president of Bengal’s largest industrial and tertiary conglomerate KeiCo. According to recent online polling, he has ranked low in people’s aspirations for the person who would be Governor-General.

La República

Sendero's Legacy: Across San Martinia, tensions have risen between Mapuche activists and local police, with some activists even calling for complete independence. Although Andea is watching from the sidelines, some fear that the protests could spillover, and cause a resurgence of the Nationalist Party of Andea, more commonly known as the Shining Path. The Shining Path saw Andea's socialist government as revisionist and too Westernized. Subscribing to Ethnocacerist ideology, they planned to install a proletarian dictatorship led by the country's indigenous people, which comprises 20% of Andea's population. Throughout the 1980s, the Shining Path terrorists waged a brutal guerilla war in the jungles. It fell apart after the capture of its leader in 1992, but some of its members remain in hiding to this day. While most indigenous-people in Andea are loyal to the country nowadays, some fear that the Senderos could try to recruit amongst disaffected youths.

SDB Expansion: As expected, the FSR's traditional allies were quick to join the Southern Development Bank, including Puertollano and the FSR-aligned African states. Because the FSR plans to coordinate all of its future economic aid multilaterally through the SDB, several countries including Zimbabwe, Botswana, Burundi, and Liberia have been offered SDB membership. These states used to get foreign aid in the past, worth a total of $395 million. In other news, the FSR and Persia have agreed to sign a free trade agreement, which is expected to increase trade between the two countries, yada yada yada.

The Alliance Grows: Another political shift occurred as the Socialist Party adopted a policy of peaceful coexistence, a move which was immediately condemned as an example of Khruschevite revisionism by the Communists. Afterward, it decided to join the fledgling Alliance for Peace. Normally, this move would have had an enormous effect on the political arena. However, the Socialist Party is increasingly becoming a hollowed-out shell of its former self, as it continues to suffer from mass defections to the Communist Party. However, for the Alliance, this represented a major victory. The inclusion of the Socialist Party will allow the Alliance for Peace to appeal to more moderate voters, due to the rest of the Alliance being composed of minor parties. The Alliance's slogan of "Peace! Not War!" has riled up the curiosity of the public. However, polling data shows that the Communist Party is now expected to win a landslide victory - the first since Lula da Silva's victory a decade ago. With the electoral midterms nearing ever closer, political pundits think that the Alliance will have to pull off drastic action if it wants to avoid a crushing defeat.

Aircraft Initiatives: As part of the FSR's military modernization efforts, the Air Force has ordered prototypes for a new strategic stealth bomber to be built. While the FSR has access to some NAF-designs, back from the day of the Seattle Pact, it's expected that a brand new airframe will have to be built. Furthermore, as progress continues with the FSR's sixth-gen fighter designs, a looming question hangs over what to do with the EE-1 fighters. Originally introduced in 1986, the iconic fighter has been subject to extensive modernization throughout the years. However, with the airframe's age increasingly coming into question, some are wondering whether it's time to retire the aging airframe. The military has decided against it for the time being, saying that the EE-1 will likely continue being useful until sixth-generation fighters can be rolled out in large numbers.

EAC Holds Rais Forum - Rais Nuru Not to Run for Re-Election

As 2028 approaches, the EAC prepares for the March 5th Rais Forum where fifteen candidates will present themselves before the people of the EAC to secure votes for their parties following their nomination by members of government. As per the original EAC Charter, the candidates were originally not allowed to be a part of a political party and must be chosen from society, however, many parties feel that this old idea needs to be pushed aside for the modern era. The People's Party for Commonwealth Socialism, The Unity Party, Africa First, and Lion's Party have all presented a candidate from within their own ranks causing many to question the legitimacy of their candidacies. Meanwhile the Eagle's Party, Earth Choice, and Leonis Party have all reached out to well known local figures for their candidates to follow the traditions set by the Charter. This leaves only the Unity Party, the Hyper Democratic African Party, and United Africa to nominate candidates by March at the latest and to see if they will adhere to the Charter's mandate. The remaining six candidates of the fifteen will be nominated via popular vote and legislative support, however, none of these candidates have ever made it past the March Forum in historic EAC votes and are seen as more symbolic choices or positions of honor then actual nominees. None of the candidates have been named as of yet, but it is expected that as the election draws close the parties will begin revealing their nominees. However, to the shock of many one name will not be returning to the ballots: Rais Nuru. The man who shaped the modern EAC and who has been pivotal in so many developments across the nation has announced that he will not be running in this upcoming election. The Rais has stated that he believes it is time for the old guard to step down and for those who sought to reform the Commonwealth now must leave the future of the nation to the next generation, independent of the ideals set forward by Leonis a century ago. It is unknown who will take his place as the Unity Party's Candidate or if anyone else in the old guard of the government will heed his advice, but this upcoming election appears to have started in a way no one was expecting.

Pininfarina Automotive Group celebrates 500,000 vehicles sold since 2025

Pininfarina Automotive Group S.p.A. (PAG) has today celebrated its 500,000th vehicle sold since the group was founded by the acquisition of Vinfast by Pininfarina in 2025. The automotive group has ambitious hopes to become the next major global player in the automotive industry by 2035, spearheaded by its three brands; Vinfast, Flagranti and Pininfarina. Vinfast is the groups mass market brand selling affordable and premium vehicles from small hatchbacks to large family SUV's whilst Flagranti automobiles focuses on higher cost luxury vehicles with a focus on comfort and refinement, competing with the high end vehicles of Maserati and Mercedes. Finally Pininfarina is the pinnacle brand of the PAG group, focusing on luxury performance vehicles to rival the likes of its Italian relatives Ferrari and Lamborghini.

Of the 500,000 sales since 2025, roughly 65% were attributed to Vinfast, 30% to Flagranti and 5% to Pininfarina. The goal of 500,000 is the first step in PAG's ambitions to sell several million vehicles annually by 2035, solidifying the groups position as a major global vehicle manufacturer. Currently PAG group only produces battery electric vehicles, but is currently exploring the possibility of venturing into hydrogen technology with a new hydrogen fuel cell power train currently being researched at PAG's R&D centre in Turin.
