Nyström Court sets new deadline for democracy
Image
The first session of the Nordic Provisional High Court (NPHC) has taken place, and many of its decisions are shocking politicians and analysts. Experts first expected the Court to continue the duties of the defunct Supreme Court, essentially playing judicial catch-up, but instead some say the Court is angling to assert its power as a counterbalance to the strong executive.

One of the first acts of the NPHC was to review the Royal Decree of 2026, which established the court and the Ramussen administration. Their findings indicated that immediate restrictions would need to be put in place on the decree, and that stricter deadlines and limitations must be used to hold the "dictatorship" accountable.

In reviewing this Royal Decree, the Court is attempting to fulfill its duty of judicial review, granted with great scope by the very document. It is in the view of all justices of the Court that, as the only current counter-balance to the executive with dictatorial powers, we are necessarily responsible for creating and implementing restrictions to ensure the rights and safety of the people. This must include the limitation and restriction of certain provisions outlined in the Royal Decree. Within this scope of our review, we have reached the following decisions;

[1] The court finds that there is not sufficient reason present in the current empowering documents of the state, or in the circumstances which precipitated them, to justify a period of interregnum lasting more than 200 days.

[2] The imperative priority of the Autarch shall be to restore justice in tandem with order; it is necessary to prosecute those involved in the corruption surrounding the Sarek Initiative, and the murders in Stockholm in order to fulfill the duties of the government to its people. Investigations shall be prompt and thorough, with a hearing before this court occurring no later than May 30, 2027.

[3] The court mandates a convention on the drafting of the Constitution to be held, with public input, within the next 100 days.

[4] The court mandates a referendum of a Constitution no later than June 6, 2027.

Funding for Military Granted- Budget analysts don't see green numbers
This afternoon, a memo from the Minister of the Treasury was leaked, showing internal concerns about a budget shortfall due to the immense expenditures incurred by the transition of power, which will need to be repeated again. The memo highlights Alfhild Ramussen's ambitious Northern Railroad, the expansion of some pension rights due to the establishment of the national wealth fund, and the acceptance of a recent naval budget proposal as massive expenditures, which might send the country into deficit for the first time since the Second Nigerian War.

Some are concerned that such a pre-emptive deposit of the nation's currency reserves into an investment fund may compromise infrastructure and welfare projects which many people consider critical. Ramussen, however, has tried to ease the shock with several social media posts discussing the long term, money-making benefits of many of these projects. Critics point to the commissioning of a new aircraft carrier as one of many examples where the Federation won't be making money.

The naval budget includes nearly kr. 100 billion for the purchase of a brand new Super-carrier of the Gustav class, as well as undisclosed other vessels, rumored to include two Åland-class destroyers. The bill that was signed by the Autarch also provisioned funding for the reorganization of naval assets, and several new research and development initiatives. Replies on social media have mostly been accusing Ramussen of favoring his ex-colleagues.

In the lead-up to new elections, new leftists?
At a rally praising the recent limitations placed by the NPHC, specifically Justice Nyström, a political movement unfamiliar to many Nords has shown in great number. The group calls themselves the "Next Left", and say they're running many candidates in upcoming local elections. They are pushing for a more Socialist and Democratic influence on the current system of Social Democracy. After the Soc-Dem party's complete collapse, they are just one of the many new political movements popping up across the nation.

The conservatives, according to many analysts, are failing to pick up many of the pieces of the old coalition, but seem to be maintaining their hold on their voter base. This has informed some predictions that see people either going towards the center or further left from their old Social-Democratic party, leaving a gap where their policy used to exist. However, this also presents a unique opportunity for previously regional movements, such as the Finnish National and Swedish National parties, which may try to expand their platform by coming to more mainstream positions.

However, in this political chaos, it still remains difficult to predict the eventual outcome of the elections. The Stockholm Gazette will keep you informed on all political happenings, with our pledge to make you an informed and effective voter.

Cape Thetis elections 2026: Forza Italia's Francesco Cardinale wins governorship

Today after months of campaigning and debates, the results of Cape Thetis' election for a new governor have been announced, with Forza Italia bagging their 5th win in a row, but with new candidate Francesco Cardinale, after the decision of Luigi Binelli Mantelli not to run for a 5th term, ending his 20 year journey as governor. The new governor Francesco Cardinale has big boots to fill as Luigi Binelli Mantelli has been seen as a stable father-like figure to many in Cape Thetis over his 20-year tenure as governor.

The new governor plans to continue with Forza Italia's liberalisation agenda which started with the legalisation of prostitution, deregulating of the gambling industry and legalisation of polyamorous marriage. However during the campaign the new governor u-turned on his plan to give further subsidies to large corporations and multinationals seeking to relocate to Cape Thetis, stating that "I believe for now the incentives and subsidies we provide are more than adequate, and it would be more wise to invest into the education system and the local community rather than multinationals, not that we don't want them, we absolutely do."

One of the biggest arising issues for the new governor is the spread of the so-called 'Zackarothian flu' in South America, with the new governor making one his first decisions as governor to align Cape Thetis' policies towards the virus with that of neighbouring San Martinia. The governor claimed that it is more sensible to mirror the San Martinian response as it would reduce confusion as many people live in San Martinia and work in Cape Thetis and vice versa and having different rules would be counterproductive and having the same regulations in place will allow the border to remain open in the event that stricter mitigation efforts are needed to take place.

Chief Inquisitor of ANAC launches investigation into TeleSur following 'several anonymous complaints'

Today the Chief Inquisitor of ANAC (National Anti-Corruption Authority), Teresa Bellanova, announced that an official investogation has been launched by the agency into TeleSur, after ANAC received several anonymous complaints regarding TeleSur's access to leaked information and reports. Chief Inquisitor Bellanova and ANAC have decided that the claims provided warranted an official invention into TeleSur's operations, particularly in regard to their methods of acquiring information and reports from within the public administration.

This most likely suggests that ANAC will be investigating whether or not TeleSur has been bribing or possibly blackmailing civil servants and other officials into revealing reports and information from within the government which have not been revealed to the public prior. Some have criticised this intervention as ANAC 'protecting the government from leaks', which many claim is against ANAC's purpose of ensuring transparency in the public administration. To counteract this ANAC stating that "As an independent authorities separate from the government it is not in our interest to protect the government from leaks, it is our job to investigate claims such as the ones made against TeleSur which could suggest that public officials may be being bribed. It is our job to find out whether this is true and put a stop to it."

Chief Inquisitor Teresa Bellanova stated that ANAC was currently 'significantly concerned' over the anonymous claims: Image

Gathering of the Tudeh Party
Tudeh Party Votes Down Agricultural Collectivization, Promises Reform

The plenary session of the Tudeh Party met in Tehran to determine party policy for the coming months and years. Tudeh has existed for almost a century, anglicized as the "Party of the Masses of Iran" it has held the banner of the anti-capitalist radical left, and the direction of the clenched fist of the working class against the capitalist class. It has suffered decades of persecution, but finally has entered parliamentary politics in the age of the Republic for the first time since the early 1950s. However, it has been plagued by party infighting. Orthodox Marxist Leninists have called for mass collectivization of agriculture, state seizure of all the means of production, and restrictions on organized religion. They view parliamentary democracy as means to end, and nothing more, that is a tool by which to gain power and then discarded. Some of them believe the party should cease to exist peacefully, and take up arms to organize the masses against the state. Traditionally they have held more sway, but at this plenary session the so called "centrist" bloc flooded the halls and outvoted the Leninists on almost every proposal. The "centrist bloc" embrace federative constitutionalism, parliamentary democracy, and reform as means to establish socialism in Persia. They oppose mass collectivization, although they remain in support of seizing the means of production and transferring them all to workplace control. They claim to be communists, though in ideology they are more supports of a socialist market economy. They are also more moderate on religion, though they still favor restriction. The centrists outvoted the Leninists on most proposals. On the Soviet NEP, the session voted strongly to recognize it as at a "major success in the development of socialism in Russia." On Stalin they voted to claim that he was a, "detrimental to the liberties of the Russian people." Lenin's portraits still hung over the committee and he was hailed as a "revolutionary hero and father of modern socialism.", but the successor of Lenin's Cheka, the NKVD was declared as an "arm of terrorist party elements." However no vote was nearly as important as the vote on the collectivization of agriculture, where by 6 ballots the party voted down the longstanding party tenant to collectivize all agriculture of Persia.

Tudeh continues to try to gain traction and attention as the SDU continues to dominate left wing politics in Persia. Tudeh also voted up a proposal to declare the FSR the "modern stronghold of the global revolution."

Enel begins construction of worlds largest solar farm in Puglia

Today Enel, Italy's largest electricity provider, celebrated the start of construction of the worlds largest solar power plant. The photovoltaic plant will cover just over 50km2 of land, making it the largest in the world by area. Located on farmland in the triangular area between Mesagne, Torre Santa Susanna and San Donaci, the plant is perfectly situated on the flat open plains of Puglia, which are drenched with sunshine year round and is one of the driest regions of Italy.

In order to acquire such a large parcel of land, Enel entered an agreement with the government, which purchased the land from owners under an expropriation order in the public interest, as power production is essential national infrastructure. Under expropriation orders the land owners are paid the market price of their land plus compensation, with Enel paying the government in full the costs incurred for the expropriation.

Enel expects the solar farm to have a peak power output of approximately 1,600 MW, giving the largest output of any solar plant in the world. Enel has also committed to building Italy's largest battery grid energy storage system, which will store power generated by the solar farm during times when production exceeds demand which can be used to stabilise the grid during peak demands and times of low output. Enel hopes that by using this system it will be able to begin to shut down its gas-fired plants which are currently used to supplement demand in these scenarios.

Your Weekly Update

Virus Outbreak Continues: As national quarantine continues with the virus outbreak still occurring, the Ministry of Health has come to an agreement to outsource its testing to the FSR, in addition to utilizing an FSR medical package of 30 tons of medical equipment and 9 medical experts. Meanwhile, some locations are currently considering reopening while maintaining bans on non-essential interstate travel as hospitalization rates have begun to decrease, although experts are warning against such action.

EAC Partnership: With the recent announcement of an economic cooperation program with the East African Commonwealth, the two nations came to an agreement to mutually lower tariffs on agricultural products. Many San Martinian agricultural coops have begun to take advantage of this arrangement to establish some operations in the fertile soils of the Great Lake nation. Most of these operations are conducting organic farming processes and focus on grains, oilseeds, and fruits, as is the norm in San Martinia.

EEZ Patrols: As part of San Martinia's harsher policies for protection of its waters, especially for fishing resources following several high-profile violations from FSR fishing boats, patrols are being instructed to shoot to sink if unregistered boats and/or boats of another flag found in the nation's EEZ or inner waters do not respond to the first communication attempt. As such, the construction of an artificial island on Sars Bank in the Drake Passage was recently announced. Right on the edge of San Martinia's EEZ, this island will be used to ensure that boats do not take advantage of the nearby maritime seaway to trespass in San Martinian waters. Additionally, the island will also help serve as a navigational aid in those stormy seas with the construction of a lighthouse.

Wallmapu v Temuco: A local Temuco judge has recently ruled against various Mapuche organizations, including the Wallmapu government, in a lawsuit they filed against the Temuco police department for excessive violence and discrimination against Mapuche people following the death of Nahuel Muñoz. Now, these plaintiffs are facing a counter-suit from Temuco PD that alleges slander. Additionally, there have been reports that the police are stationed along the Wallmapu border, which is just outside Temuco, and harassing those who enter the city from the Autonomous Republic. Activists have urged Wallmapu to appeal the case, and that the counter-suit be dismissed as frivolous.

SAZ City's begin to show promise

With the seventh year anniversary of the creation of the SAZ, people have begun to notice the significant changes within said cities. Hong Kong has become the financial center of Asia, as most of the financial trading in Asia has moved there. It has become the seventh largest stock exchange in the world after Nanjing handed administration of the city to itself. Macao has become a huge tourist destination and entertainment city, becoming the 3rd largest casino city in the world having only lost to Monte Carlo and Las Vegas. Shanghai has become one of the most prosperous cities in china, as manufacturing and trade has only grown in the city. And Dalian has become the center of technological advancement, with innovations into renewable energy, medical, and Robotics having become part of the city very identity. While Fuzho and Ningbo has petitioned to leave the SAZ, the entire island of Tawan has petitioned to join it , with a movement in Tibet looking to bring about a vote to join said program.

Chinese Yuan looks to rework state involvement in economy

The Yuan has begun to debate over the current state of the Chinese economy as private corporations overtake numerous state owned enterprises. while some of the larger corporations such as SGCC, CNNC FAW, and CSA have been growing, numerous smaller operations have continued to redline for the last 10 years. Causing a large upheaval within budgeting comity's. The PFC has stated that they hope to privatize all current state-corporations, but bolth the CCP and KMT has strangely united in their want to have a state presence in the economy. Current projections are that the Yuan will sell much of the small/medium size corporations through china. A newly formed Ministry of Industry will be formed to oversee and administer any remaining state-run corporations.

Stockholm City Library
Recent party conventions have finally allowed political organization to resume in the nation. Following many rallies and town halls across the country, pollsters have begun to make sense of the aftermath of the political turmoil since the government's collapse. Tonight's meeting in Stockholm's historic city library is the first national, organized convention to occur since the declaration of the Autarchy, so we sat down with the top polling candidates of each political party.

Federalism versus Unitary government
One of the most pressing issues that will come up at the constitutional convention is whether to maintain the Federal system in this country, and how that might relate to the autonomy of Finland, Greenland, and the many overseas territories. Which direction would each of you like to see the Constitution take?
Serge Anderson, Conservative Party
It is absolutely not an option to consider giving up the Federal protections in the drafting of our new Constitution. The Nordic people have already seen enough restructuring of their society with the appointment of Ramussen as Autarch, and changing the name of the country and adding more asterisks to our laws will only cost the government resources it should be spending on the people. Finland is one example that proves a transition to unitary government is impractical and unwise. The people there benefit greatly from the autonomies of their regional government. They can keep their language alive, make policies drafted in Stockholm more suitable to the people, and adapt Nordic values to the specific circumstances in Finland. The conservative party, if elected, will staunchly support the Federal rights that we have enjoyed for so long. We absolutely cannot start stripping away layers of our country's freedoms, bloating the government instead of wisely using resources.

Sassa Karstensen, Next Left
I disagree with Mr. Andersen totally, and the Next Left will stand behind efforts to transition to unitary government. As a nation, we are faced with this once in a lifetime opportunity to reform every system, government organization, and program to benefit the people to the greatest degree. Unitarianism will eliminate the bureaucracy at the state level, and empower municipalities to make the policy that is most relevant to their communities. If anything, this change will place the government in the hands of the people, who's votes will have more influence, and ensure that everybody's voice is being heard. Finns are an integral part of this nation, and are more than capable of legislating the protections that are necessary, and amending policy to their specific needs at the local level. We've seen no serious decline in the quality of life of Swedes, Norwegians, or Danes since their state-structures were dissolved, and I don't think Finland would be any different. Instead of being scared by the notion of change, and making inefficient and undesirable decisions, we need to look toward the future as innovators of our nation.

Lars Lamar, Nord Centrum Parti
I do think there are virtues to constitutionalizing the unitary government of the State of Kalmar, but these provisions should absolutely not be extended to Finland or any other province. Autonomy has allowed for economic opportunity and stability in Greenland and Finland, and should be considered an asset, not an ideological target to take down.

Elanora Jokumsen, Green Party
Unitary government may turn out to be the most efficient solution for the nation, but I think it should be left to national referendum. The government shouldn't make that decision in a vacuum. But, I will say that I think Finland needs to keep its autonomy as a separate entity within the nation. Finnish people have made it clear time and time again that they desire self-government and it's not up to the politicians in Stockholm to tell them no.

Collectivization or Free market
This Constitution will almost certainly have an influence on the structure of the nation's economy, and there has been a lot of noise made at the local level for further collectivization of Nordic industry. Do any of you believe that economic principles should be included in the Constitution? What will your primary goals be for the economy if you're elected?
Serge Andersen, Conservative Party
State owned industry is at the root of the corruption and problems we have seen in our country over the last decade. Government simply does not have the ability to oversee its own activity to the degree that operating in the marketplace requires. There is no reason our government should be the sole proprietor of oil in the nation, and we've seen the disastrous effects on innovation and competition that has taken hold in the transportation industry. While maybe not an entire section, I do believe that there should be some language in the Constitution that principally limits the government's involvement in business activity. If Conservatives are able to win the election, there will be concerted efforts made to shrink the size of state-industry, and to privatize to some degree. This will allow for greater economic growth, innovation, economic stability, and wage increases for individuals.

Sassa Karstensen, Next Left
Calling Statoil a 'state-run' enterprise is preposterous. If anything, the decisions that lead to the Sarek scandal were ones that gave the management of this company a longer leash and the direction of the company like a corporation. The national oil resources should absolutely be owned by the government, but contrary to the organization of Statoil, they should not be treated as a capitalist asset. We must view oil for what it is: this country's insurance policy. It's a strategic resource that strengthens our global position, but it should not be treated as a piggy bank aiming for maximum efficiency in reaping profits. The same concept holds true for transportation, Mr. Andersen's references to 'efficiency' under private enterprise basically translate to a higher quality product being provided to those who can afford it. This country's railroad network should be a public good, providing greater opportunities to everyone. If that comes at the cost of not having a faster train marketed to corporate executives who'll pay twice the cost to save thirty minutes, then so be it. We also shouldn't consider constitutionalizing economic policy. Economic conditions are endlessly variable, and to entrench such sensitive policy would threaten the stability of our nation. We should deal with economics as we always have, with legislation and the backing of executive financial departments.

Lars Lamar, Nord Centrum Parti
I agree with Ms. Karstensen on her final point, there is no reason to elevate economic policy to a level where it becomes nigh on impossible to change, it will compromise our nation's ability to respond to crisis. However, I must reject talks of massive economic reorganization or a reinterpreting of our entire system. Our ability to hybridize strong welfare with a free market has been the cornerstone of stability and prosperity in Scandinavia since the 20th century. Obviously, the system isn't failing to walk the line between social responsibility and profit, so why must we expend time and resources to try and overhaul it? Of course, as individual issues come up, we should legislate to protect the people and the economy, but there is no need to preempt by fixing something that isn't broken.

Elanora Jokumsen, Green Party
It is absolutely necessary that economics be included in the constitution, after all, how is the government supposed to legislate effectively if it has no framework to build upon? The Green party supports strategic collectivization in certain industries, and the explicit inclusion of environmental protection in the constitution to guide the government's priorities when dealing with the economy. Simply put, when times of economic crisis arise, it is rarely convenient or timely to consider environmental issues in the response. If those commitments were solidified in the Constitution, it would prevent such mistakes from being made. Mr. Lamar has pointed out that there is no need to preempt crisis, and I agree with that to some extent, but surely there is cause to provide guidelines which will allow us to avoid error?

Other priorities
Do you or your parties have any other pressing priorities that will come to the top of the docket after the Constitutional Convention?
Serge Andersen, Conservative Party
Aside from relaxing the stringent and harmful regulations placed on our industry, especially in oil, we will begin to look seriously at the modernization of the armed forces. One of the silver linings of the Autarchy is how it has thrust the Navy of the Federation back into the public's perception, and it's clear that if we want to maintain our global projection, serious improvements are needed. That, paired with increased cooperation with our European neighbors, will be the blueprint for our nation's prosperity and security for the next decade.

Sassa Karstensen, Next Left
We need to seriously evaluate the role of the state in caring for its citizens. If one thing has been evidenced by the Vasastan Massacre, and Sarek Scandal, its that we've clearly let the bureaucracy of our nation become estranged from the public. To heal that divide, we need to make sure our policy is well intentioned and effective in every area, and always prioritizes the lives of our citizens. Increased constitutional and legal protections for minorities, as well as institutions of reparative justice will be important issues for us. We also want to focus on expanding the rights of the workers, and in tandem with the empowerment of municipal government, begin to shift our state's resources into making sure their rights are protected, and that they have a prominent voice in our government. Increasing regulation on employers, and dismantling large corporate conglomerates will be important social steps in expanding the rights of the citizenry.

Lars Lamar, Nord Centrum Parti
We will be entirely focused on the smoothness of the transition back to democracy, and ensuring the effectiveness of the government going forward. Never again should we encounter such nationally turbulent times. As a nation, we must come together to heal from this discord, and re-establish normality.

Elanora Jokumsen, Green Party
We only have one goal in getting elected to serve the people of this country: improving their lives. Whether that is through maintenance of the environment, expansion and reevaluation of welfare programs, or just listening to the voice of the people, the Green Party will make sure to support legislation that is most beneficial to the people. Beyond just caring for our surroundings and the Earth, we must also be sure to codify our care for ourselves, our rights, and our society in this transition. I think everybody here can agree that we are focused on moving towards a better tomorrow for Scandinavia

Inside Joao Barcelos' presidency

Inside Joao Barcelos' presidency

More than a hundred days in, the Barcelos administration has managed to upturn the typically belittled milestone of the "First 100 Days" into a moment of genuine significance, fitting for an administration that has so far been characterized for its ground-shaking intensity.

Barcelos' team gets the game for a political landscape that has continuously ruled taming Portugal's political divide, slow economic growth, global unease and rebuilding Galicia in mere months "absurd." For once, the 100 Days measure, even if arbitrary, has worked out well for a Portuguese President.

Because of the unusual circumstance in which he was elected President, Joao Barcelos was confronted in his opening weeks with as many consequential domestic decisions in three months as some presidents face in five years. Because of the grand coalition between Portugal's major right-wing parties, he has more power to assert his will than his predecessors have gotten. And because of the scope of his own ambition, he has revealed more about himself and his leadership style sooner than expected from a typical president in typical times.

Partly because of the onslaught of consequential events, Barcelos' presidency seems like its at warp-speed and looks and feels remarkably mature, and with some of the huge question marks already settled. With no doubt, Joao Barcelos' agenda is as stark a departure from the cautious incrementalism of Oluwakemi Taliscas as it is from the neo-nationalism of Sara Palveiro.

When the grand coalition between the Conservadores, CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats was announced, many people assumed the no-drama style that marked Joao Barcelos' presidential campaign would not translate to Belem Palace — especially with a roster of personalities as Danilo Castelo, Nikita 'Téa' Lacerda and Calahan Chaves populating his administration.

But few of the generational or ideological rivalries like that of the Taliscas and Palveiro presidency have emerged. Dissenters in the administration are rarely described as holding dramatically different views than the President, as testified to by the President's Chief of Staff:

The President's culture and value system is never forgotten among staff and the Cabinet. We’re not perfect, but divisions haven't erupted either. Getting the budget and putting together the New Deal package was tough, but I can confidently say everybody knows we're all on the same team.

As surprised as pundits and opposition have been about the intensity of the new administration, Barcelos advisers have rightly pointed out that no one should be. Go back to his presidential campaign, they say, and you’ll see that he vowed to do many of the things he has done during his first three months in office — or has promised to do before the close of this year. Bravado aside, the consistency of Barcelos’ policies and posture is undeniable. When asked, senior staff and cabinet members always speak in awe of a man who rarely loses his cool, always controls meetings and never shies away from momentous decisions.

With the 100 Days mark behind him, these next few months will test Barcelos’ ability to deliver on big issues that he's yet to get to. Officials tell us Barcelos expects to unleash Portugal's economy further, a reconfiguration of Portugal's international relations and a health care reform bill. In every case, his biggest fight could come from grand coalition members of the National Assembly whose instincts are to push even more than Barcelos thinks is doable in this political and fiscal environment.

What Barcelos didn’t clarify on the campaign trail was that he would push to do all of these things so fast — and run up deficits that could easily shoot up for many years to come. His advisors have also expressed their wishes for the press to better convey that everything Barcelos does fits together into a broader plan to upturn the economy now and build a foundation for sustained growth later and do so in a way that allows more Portuguese to share in the prosperity he thinks will follow.

But the administration wants the public to focus only on the upside of swift action on so many fronts too. Right now, these downsides include the questions: Can the country continue to sustain this level of spending? Will the New Deal really pay off? Will the president’s laser-like focus on the economy allow other threats to grow? Did he launch more policy changes than any administration can competently implement?

A bad answer from the President on any of these could quickly change the public’s assessment of his big bet. Barcelos' team want the public to see the president as someone who genuinely works to win over the opposition and his critics. On this count, he is failing. A recent poll by the nonpartisan LusoPolls found that Barcelos is the most polarizing president in recent history when it comes to the number of liberals and conservatives who like the job he’s doing. Recent polls, though, blame liberals for an unwillingness to meet him halfway.

The future of Portugal's healthcare system

The future of Portugal's healthcare system
Secretary of State for Health and Social Affairs Keith Marcelo unveiled the Barcelos' administration's latest plan for a decentralized healthcare system on Friday and is calling on the National Assembly to finally get healthcare reform done. But what does that actually entail?

The Barcelos' administration's latest proposal for a new universal health care system is highly decentralized, with districts playing a key role in its operation. Marcelo's bill mandates all residents to purchase basic health insurance from private nonprofit insurers and adults will have to pay yearly deductibles, in addition to coinsurance (with an annual cap) for all services. Funding for the new system would be through enrollee premiums, taxes (mostly from districts), social insurance contributions, and out-of-pocket payments fund the new system.

Coverage will still include most physician visits, hospital care, pharmaceuticals, devices, home care, medical services in long-term care, and physiotherapy. On services on covered by mandatory health insurance however, supplemental private insurance will be up for purchase to secure greater choice of physicians, and to obtain better hospital accommodations.

How would it work?
The Health and Social Affairs Secretary's proposal is based on a private insurance model. Marcelo's repeal and replace bill in the National Assembly sets up the following objectives: strengthen equality by introducing universal coverage and subsidies for low-income households, expand the benefit basket and ensure high standards of health services and contain the growing costs of the health system.

If put into effect, residents will be legally required to purchase insurance, and the districts would ensure compliance. Insurance policies will typically apply to individuals, and separate coverage will have to be purchased for dependents. New residents will be required to purchase a policy within three months of arriving in Portugal, and coverage will apply retroactively to the arrival date. Temporary nonresident visitors will have to pay for care themselves and claim expenses from any insurance coverage they hold in their home countries. Mandatory health insurance for undocumented immigrants remains an unsolved problem as it is absent in Marcelo's bill.

Government's new role
Duties and responsibilities in the Barcelos' administration's proposed health care system would be divided among the national, administrative (districts), and municipal governments. Portugal's 18 districts would responsible for licensing providers, coordinating hospital services, promoting health through disease prevention, and subsidizing institutions and individual premiums.

The national government would mainly regulate system financing, ensure the quality and safety of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, oversee public health initiatives, and promotes research and training. The municipalities are responsible mainly for organizing and providing long-term care (nursing home care and home care services) and other social support services for vulnerable groups. Since health care would become largely decentralized, the key entities for health system governance exist mainly at the administrative (district) level.

National agencies will supervise the legal application of mandatory health insurance, authorize statutory insurance premiums, govern statutory coverage (including health technology assessment), and determine the prices of pharmaceuticals. The Health and Social Affairs office will take on responsibilities for national health strategies, including health promotion, disease prevention, and health equity. A a nonprofit health promotion organization would also be legally charged with health promotion programs and provides public information on health. A national ombudsman would be dedicated for health insurance engage in patient advocacy as well.

Role of Public health insurance
The proposed new public health insurance system will have three streams of funding:
  • Mandatory health insurance premiums
  • General taxes, administrative (district) taxes and municipal taxes
  • Contributions to other social insurance schemes, including military, old-age, and disability insurance
Individuals will have to pay premiums through the insurer of their choosing. Then funds are redistributed among insurers by a central fund, in accordance with a risk-equalization scheme that is adjusted for district, age, gender, and major expenditures in the previous year, such as hospital or nursing home stays and pharmaceutical costs.

Employers would no longer need to sponsor mandatory health insurance nor would employers have to offer voluntary insurance. Under Marcelo's bill, mandatory health insurance will offered by competing nonprofit insurers on administrative (district) exchanges. Insurers on the exchanges would be allowed to provide policies for three distinct age groups — children through age 18, young adults 19 to 25, and adults 26 and above — each at six different deductible levels. In addition to the standard coverage model (basic coverage with free choice of doctor), there are various alternatives that restrict provider choice: health maintenance organizations; family doctor models, which require an initial consultation with the family physician in the event of illness; and call-center models, under which patients call a consultation hotline prior to seeing a doctor.

Role of private health insurance
Residents will have the option of using voluntary health coverage to pay for services not covered by mandatory health insurance and to ensure free choice of hospitals or doctors and preferred hospital accommodation under the Barcelos' administration's latest proposal. Voluntary health insurance would be regulated by a supervisory authority. Insurers will be allowed to vary benefit baskets and premiums and can refuse applicants based on medical history. Service prices will usually negotiated directly between insurers and providers. Unlike statutory insurers however, voluntary insurers are for-profit; an insurer will be allowed to have a nonprofit branch offering mandatory health insurance and a for-profit branch offering voluntary insurance. Marcelo's bill would make it illegal for voluntary insurers to base voluntary insurance subscription decisions on health information obtained via basic health coverage, but this rule's effectiveness is still in question.

Viability
Healthcare reform under the Barcelos' administration has had a rough start. Debates on services covered, cost-sharing and out-of-pocket expenses and especially on reducing disparities, ensuring quality of care and containing costs continue to stall delivering one of the President's key promises. After Manuel Hilario failed to lead the charge on healthcare reform, President Barcelos handpicked Keith Marcelo to replace him, and since then Marcelo has staked his entire reputation on repealing Portugal's state-provided health services.

Yusri el-Akram resoundingly defeats High Leader Abullah! Abullah claims foreign interference and refuses to concede.NBP makes a come back.
Nov 2026

In a stunning rebuke of High Leader Abullah's policies and decisions, Yusri el-Akram has won the Zackarothian 2026 election. Akram had taken a very neutralist tone during his campgain, vowing to untangle Zackaroth from it's various alliances and seek to return the country back to a neutral state that would be willing to deal with most other nations. He had constantly criticized European powers, mostly Germany and France, and has criticized the High Leader for his actions in attempting to make Zackaroth a super power and interfering in foreign matters. Akram's father, currently in a medically induced coma from what was suspected to be a massive stroke, also espoused the same views but did not get very far. Akram's success is mostly in thanks to the ZPP(Zackarothian People's Party) deciding to merge with the ZBP(Zackaroth Baathist Party) in order to combat Abullah's NGZ(New Guard of Zackaroth) stronghold. This had led to a flood of votes from him as he beat the current High Leader in a landslide. The ZBP also currently in the lead with High Councilors, with 6 to the NGZ's 5

However, High Leader Abullah has refused to concede, claiming various irregularities in the votes. He is currently blaming foreign interference in the election, pointing the blame towards South America. However, the ZBP has claimed no such interference has been observed nor any irregularities have been found. A tense showdown is about to emerge as the High Leadership must change hands within a month.

As Abullah refuses to step down, triggering Leadership crisis, disturbing reports begin to emerge.
Dec 10th, 2026

High Leader Abullah has refused to concede defeat to Yusri el-Akram, thus triggering the first ever Leadership Crisis in Zackaroth. The country is becoming embroiled in deep division as protests and riots are starting to spring up over Zackaroth. Normally in cases such as these, the High Court must convene and decide upon a winner based on election results and whether or not if claims of interference are justified. However, The High Leader has blocked off the Citidal with troops, not allowing any High Judges or High Councilors in. Instead the capital building has become a base for the High Leader and his supporters. However, those in the NGZ who are unhappy with what is happening have begun to leak disturbing reports to the media.

Back in 2021, the Africa issue had reached one it's first peak points. The former High Leader, Nassar Akram(father to Yusri el-Akram), was extremely resistant to getting involved but Abullah pressed hard with the newly formed NGZ at the time. However, Nassar Akram would never see what would happen. He instead collapsed after leaving a meeting and was non-responsive despite all medical attempts to revive him. Doctors treating have said the former High Leader suffered a massive stroke and was technically brain dead. Ever since, he has been on life support, his son refusing to take him off for unknown reasons. This event cascaded into an emergency election that saw Abullah retake the High Leadership and the NGZ to make massive gains.

Now former NGZ supporters who where close to the High Leader are saying that Abullah was quoted at saying at the time "We need to get rid of this guy fast" and "Nassar is a relic and should be buried like one. I'll take care of it". Some are even going as far to say Nassar's Akram's stroke was caused by some sort of poison or chemical weapon and that Abullah does indeed have connections, being a former special operations member during the mid-late 2000s. The claim has sent shockwaves through out Zackaroth. Nassar Akram was the first High Leader of the nation and was the instrumental general in uniting Zackaroth after the fall of Saudi Arabia. He is revered greatly by both older generation and by those who grew up during his time as High Leader.

High Leader Abullah's camp responded to these claims with a simple statement. "The High Leader has no idea what these traitors are speaking about. These are slanderous lies that border on treason. The High Leader would like to remind all citizens that this election has had unprecedented foreign interference and that forces in South America are attempting to place a puppet in office. They are attempting to cause a massive civil war in hopes of seeing Zackaroth be destroyed. Be firm and strong as we were during the Orostani attacks years ago"

However, Yusri el-Akram's statement was much more scathing. "And now we finally have the truth. I had always assumed my father's stroke was...misaligned. Too convenient for those who opposed his plans for the country. If what these reports are saying is true, High Leader Abullah has committed one of the gravest sins you can as one who has taken the oath of office. He has essentially killed the man that brought this nation together and ensured it's survival for the first years of it's life. He let his own ambitions and pride take over. The High Leader position is one of sacrifice. Where you put aside your wants and needs to steer Zackaroth in the best possible direction. Now not only does he refuse to concede an election that has sharply rebuked him, claiming interference in which there is no proof of, but now also has his sins come to life.

My father is still on life support. However, he is a shell of a man. Brain Death took him 5 years ago and now I will finally release him now that the truth is freed. I will order a full autopsy and I will get the records of what doctors found when they operated him. Should these claims prove to be true, I will fully declare myself winner of this election and take the role of High Leader, whether Abullah concedes or not. I hope the citizens, the High Councilors and the military join me. I want to remind many of the current generals that you served under my father, both during the civil war AND afterwards. Supporting Abullah after what he has done is spitting on my father's grave and Legacy"

Official Administrative Overhaul: The Latinocracy

Image

It has been 11 years since the Academic Revolution and the fall of the Ultranationalist Dictatorship in Greece, 11 years since the idea of the Greek nation state inevitably started to crumble. Now, the irreversible downfall has come.

On 31st of March 2027, the de facto transitional political entity that was the "Fregantes Empire" has evolved, "passed on" according to some commentators, into the next important stage of its existance. The Senate has voted to recognize and further empower the local governments in the country, effectively enhancing the devolved model of administration even further. The administrative regions and the biggest cities have already enjoyed considerable local autonomy, Central Macedonia and Preveza being prime examples. Notable autonomy movements have been observed however, notably in Morea, Thessaly and the Aegean Islands. As such, the senators of these regions, supported by their Salonican and Prevezan counterparts, have introduced legislation to turn the Fregantes Empire into what can be clearly identified as a federation.

The political path to federalization has been there ever since the first move away from a unitary system and into a devolved state, but the senatorial decision still comes as a shock to many political circles. During the debate, many senators have raised concerns over the proposal being "too rash" or "too radical of a change". Nevertheless, the federalization has been embraced by the Senate. During the debate, Chancellor Fleuchaim had these remarks:

"Even the name of our nation is from a mortal being. While we venerate the late Emperor's achievements, we cannot live under the legacy of one man, nor under a static system unable to adapt to our changing identities and demographics. We have many citizens of Germanic, Austro-Danubian, Italian, French and Central European origins who have contributed significantly to the developing cultures in each region, and these cultures and identities do diverge from each other. We have to accept the truth: A united Greek identity is no more.

However, a Greek nation still exists, a Latin Greek nation exists, and it is this state's responsibility to better represent the demographic, cultural and political nature of this nation. To this end, we have to let go of a unitary state and embrace a federation of equals, empowering all the citizens of our country in doing so. To this end, Long Live the Lationocratic Confederacy of Greek City-States!"

As a result of the legislation, the country's official name has been modified into "The Lationocratic Confederacy of Greek City-States", or "Latin-Greece" for short (OOC: "The Latinocracy" if you have a "La Serenissima" condition). With so many changes into the political framework, it is important to sum up the current political nature of Latin-Greece:

The Latinocracy;

-is an Elective Constitutional Senatorial Monarchy, with the Imperial Crown in possession of the position of the head of state;

-is a democratic confederation comprised of autonomous city-states within the already established administrative regions;

-is still a member-state of the United Roman Triumvirate and the Democratic European Union;

-has The Senate of the Latinocracy as the unicameral and national legislative body of the Confederation;

-has the League of Polities, a council with every city-state represented with a member, as an advisory council to the Imperial Crown and the office of Chancellor;

-has its Chancellor elected by the Senate, which in turn is gathered by senators that are elected in nation-wide popular and regional elections;

-has Athens as its capital.

The newly coined title of "City-State" is to be granted to every settlement with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Each city-state will have a local government, a local assembly and a local judiciary unit (ultimately answering to the confederation courts). Each city state will send senators to the Senate through Regional Elections (Boeotia, Eastern Thrace, Morea etc.) and send delegates to the Council of Polities directly. All regular city states will send two delegates, Special Administrative Regions (whose privileges the Latinocracy still recognizes) will send three delegates and the capital city of Athens will send four delegates.

During the closing remarks, the Chancellor is said to have claimed "We can also consider Heraklion and Rhodes as eventual members of the Confederacy".

SARS-H11

Image

In accordance with the Italian initiatives to stop the spread of the pandemic, the Latinocracy has introduced similar countermeasures in regards of dailty life, travel and so on. These measures are mostly still in place, albeit with minor relaxations

-Restaurants to continue prioritizing take-away, a limited number of customers allowed on site as long as a social distancing of 2m can be guaranteed.
-Mandatory wearing of masks and keeping the 2m distance in public transports.
-Social distancing can be reduced to 1.5m on the street.
-Universities to remain closed and function through online-courses, except for research labs.
-Flight ban on outside of DEU.
-Virus testing mandatory in every settlement with more than 1000 cases.
-Closure of or restricted access to tourist attractions.

On a further note, all universities, polytechnical/engineering schools and pharmaceutical companies within the Latinocracy are ordered to start working on a vaccine for the virus. Most notable developments come from Preveza, with the research network Laboratoire and the pharma company MiraiMed cooperating with the Preveza High Institute of Technology. In fact, all nearly all medical and biotech research in the region has been diverted to the vaccine effort, with successful isolation of the virus already achieved. Time will tell if Athenian and Salonican contributions will match the Prevezan tech giant.

Start of the Third Plan

Following the abrupt halt to the Second Plan, the FSR began to reopen its economy since October 2026. However, the reopening was approached fairly cautiously, due to the fears of a second wave of the pandemic starting. With the experience gained from the last reopening, the NIB has authorized starting the Third Five-Year Plan. Unlike the last two Five-Year Plans, which focused on economic growth, the Third Plan will also place high priority in improving standards of living - especially for the interior regions of the FSR. Another major target area will be increasing energy efficiency and decreasing pollution.

As in line with the FSR's previous strategic goals, major emphasis will be placed on improving the automation and electronics sector. However, the Third Plan has also identified shipbuilding as another key industry in need of expansion.

Castillo dies at 60

The Caracas Metropolitan Health District announced at 5:31 pm today that President Nicolo Castillo had died peacefully. The President had been admitted following his diagnosis with late stage brain cancer was given only months to live. Castillo lived for another few months before sadly passing away. His family, who were told in advance of his deteriorating condition, were at his bedside as he died. Cristina Castillo, the President's wife sent a statement to the media, where it read: "Nicolo was the most caring man, not only to our family, but he was the carer of our country." The natural chain-of-command in the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano gives the residual powers to the the Vice-President, Desiree Alameda. The Vice-President was the second to visit the President on his death-bed. She was seen walking in with flowers and was met with an embrace from Cristina. Alameda has announced a month of mourning for the late President in the lead up to his funeral. It is unknown whether the funeral will obey the stay-at-home orders and limit the numbers, but the shear emotion of this event for many Puertollanoans may override any viral concerns. The Vice-President, dressed in black announced at Miraflores Palace to confirm his passing and the enactment of the mourning. She was later backed by the Minister for Defense and the High General, where they re-affirmed their support of the Bolivarian Revolution and upholding the vision of Castillo for the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano. Her inauguration as President will occur in weeks and following that, by law, she is required to hold a new Presidential election as soon as possible.

Castillo's supporters descended from the barrios across the nation, today, in response. They held portraits and party signs, with many unofficial vigils being held for the President. Vocal supporters of the President, including Desiree Alameda have not ruled out the brain cancer was a weapon used by the Germans. "It wouldn't surprise me if this is the work of the fucking imperialist German swine," Vice-President Alameda said, viscerally saddened. The usually vocal opposition has maintained their silence, obviously understanding the sensitivities of the moment. However, it appears that they are beginning to collude to great an alliance of parties, in order to defeat Alameda (or whoever the socialists choose) at the next election.

2 herds of 18 Asian elephants introduced to the central Apennines

Today it was announced by Rewilding Europe's Italian subdivision that two herds of 18 Asian elephants have been introduced to Parco Nazionale D'Abruzzo Lazio e Molise, located in the central Apennines. The national park is already one of the most 'rewilded' areas of Euorope, being home to Wolves, Bears, Lynx, Chamois and many other species. It's vast size and untouched areas mean that the elephants can be introduced in the most secluded areas where they are unlikely to come into contact with people unless specifically searched for or until the herds migrate to less secluded areas.

The Asian elephant is being experimentally introduced to the national park in order to see the ecological impacts that the animals have. In the forests of Southeast Asia, the Asian elephant is responsible for creating clearings and gaps in the canopy that encourage tree regeneration. Elephant feeding behaviour frequently ensures that no one plant species is able to dominate the environment. By essentially engineering the plant and water systems around them, elephants not only affect plant ecosystems, but they also impact every other animal that depends on those plants, including carnivorous predators that prey on grazing herbivores.

There is historical precedence for the introduction of Asian elephants in Europe, which was once the home to a large number of straight-tusked elephants, the Asian elephant being the closest relative to them today. The trees and shrubs of Europe still hold the genetic adaptations made thousands of years ago to withstand and survive being damaged by elephants, meaning that the introduction of the Asian elephant will not negatively impact the forests of the central Apennines but will enhance it by encouraging tree regeneration.

The two herds will be monitored from a distance for the next 12 months and will not be interfered with, after that the herds will be left unmonitored and time will tell wether the animals will die out or reproduce in the forests and mountainsides of the Parco Nazionale D'Abruzzo Lazio e Molise. If successful a herd could also be introduced to Parco Nazionale della Majella to the north.

Denvaal News
Last week, the government finalized a buy-out of all other stake-holders in Kockums, the shipbuilding company that is internationally renowned for its naval defense solutions. As part of its Pax Denvalia Program to finalize the demilitarization of Denvaal, the government has split Kockums into two divisions: Kockums Marine for all civilian and non-military production, and Kockums Naval Solutions. Kockums Marine will retain ownership of the Malmö and Karlskrona shipyards.

The Denvaalian Government has decided to give 100% of the shares in Kockums Naval Solutions to the Government of the Nordic Federation. For centuries, the Swedish Government, and then the Nordic Government, guaranteed military defense of Denvalian sovereignty through the Treaty of Bäckaskog. Kockums and the Nordic Government has had a long relationship, and the Denvaalian Government sees it as fit for the Nordic Government to be given the opportunity to continue Kockums Naval Solutions, with all of its intellectual property and expertise, as a return on an investment that they have made in our small little country for all these years.

Kockums Naval Solutions will be given a period of 2.5 years until it may no longer use an effective lease on the Kockums Shipyards in Malmö and Karlskrona, after which KNS will be expected to resume operations in the Nordic Federation. This was identified as an integral part of the Pax Denvalia program from the beginning. As Denvaalians grow up, they learn about the peace that Denvaal has enjoyed for so long, and they learn about the great benefits and importance of demilitarization. But in the last five years, Denvaalians have begun to question how much the country can really be committed to peace when it has companies perpetuating war. Out of this new social discourse came Pax Denvalia, a government agenda and commitment to remove military complexes in Denvaal, most importantly the production of military equipment and craft. Transferring Kockums Naval Solutions to the Nordic Federation is an important part of relinquishing the role our nation plays in perpetuating war.

Most Denvaalians are in support of this move, especially environmental and youth groups.

PUERTOLLAN LEADER DEAD ADMIST PANDEMIC

The long ruling President of Puertollano Nicolo Castillo was declared dead after a battle with brain cancer. President Fujimori has delivered his condolences to the family and expressed his regret at the passing of Castillo, referring to him as “one of the greatest men of our generation.” Fujimori did not associate with Castillo as much as former president Dias did, however he was still familiar with the man from years of work in the higher levels of the FSR’s government. Fujimori has signed an executive order posthumously declaring Castillo a “Hero of the Republic”, which is the highest honor the Federarion’s government can give to a citizen or non-citizen. Castillo was a popular figure in the FSR and helped create a very positive view of Puertollano in the FSR despite the country’s initial problems with deciding if it wanted to be part of the FSR or not.

DEU Cooperation, Democracy, and Election results bring celebration to the streets

Celebrations of Next Left victory in Copenhagen

Today, as the election results for the National Assembly were announced, the Reykjavik Summit makes historic progress in global financial security and European integration, and democracy was restored to the Federation, jubilance has erupted across the nation. Beer tents have been erected in many city centers, and social media has even called this 'Nordic Independence Day'.

Regardless of their political party, the majority of Nords seem to be welcoming the return of representative government and the great strides made at the Reykjavik Summit. All political parties have made statements about the historic significance of this day for the people of the nation, seemingly putting aside political competition to celebrate the progress forward for all Nords, with a brighter future on the horizon.

Election Results
By percentage of popular vote
Next Left Party = 35% (~14.8 million)
Conservative Party = 33% (~13.94 million)
Centrum Parti = 14% (~5.91 million)
Green Party = 11% (~4.65 million)
New Social Democrat's Alliance = 5% (~2.11 million)
Committee for Revolutionary Action = 2% (~844 thousand)

Seats awarded in the National Assembly (355 seats)
Government (182 seats)
Next Left Party = 124 seats
Green Party = 40 seats
New Social Democrat's Alliance = 18 seats
Opposition (173 seats)
Conservative Party = 117 seats
Centrum Parti = 50 seats
Committee for Revolutionary Action = 6 seats

Though the race between the two front-running parties was very close, it seems the inability of the Conservative and Centrist agendas to unite and create a coherent vision have lead directly to the left's victory in this campaign. The parties have not yet selected all of the candidates which will serve in their seats in the assembly, but we know that Next Left Party Leader Sassa Karstensen is the most likely pick for Prime Minister following the retirement of the Autarch.

This marks the beginning of the transition back to democracy, but there is still a long way to go. With a constitutional convention underway, there are still questions over how the government will be organized under this new administration. Autarch Ramussen still has several months left in his tenure before the emergency powers granted to him are rescinded.

With a functioning legislative, executive, and judicial branch present in the government, it does seem certain that the risk of transitioning into a totalitarian state-- a fear shared by both domestic and international spectators, especially prior to the Nyström court's decision to limit the time frame for democracy-- has passed.

With the Euro on the horizon, and Bancor upon us, economics remain the primary constitutional issue
The establishment of the Exchange Rate Mechanism banding the value of the Nordic Krona within the Franc went into effect today. Stemming from a years-long initiative to bring closer economic ties to the DEU, the Minister of Finance was quoted as saying
In terms of the social, economic, and geopolitical advantages which are afforded to the Nordic Federation, there have been few other events in world history as profound as the Euro and Bancor. It is inspiring to see the international community come together in a way which will equalize global economic imbalance. Combined with the institution of the ERM, I see the halcyon days of Nordic economic growth ahead of us.

Currently, the Ministry is running an online initiative where citizens may suggest their favorite Nordic symbols to be included on the new currency. But, not all discussion of these economic issues is so lighthearted. With an extreme divide between Conservatives and the Left on the future of industrial organization in the country, debates continue to rage at the constitutional convention over whether more nationalization is necessary or even desirable.

Agreement reached with Denvaal to acquire Kockum's military division-- affirmations of mutual cooperation follow
After weeks-long negotiations, the Kockum's division in control of military production has been acquired by the Denvaalian government, in preparation for a transferance to the Nordic government. This marks a new age of Denvaalian pacifism, as well as being an important first step in the Next Left's economic agenda.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated:
In addition to being a consolidation of Nordic military assets to focus on domestic production, this also represents further cooperation with our Scandinavian brethren to the south. We applaud the nation of Denvaal's decision to disarm, and have pledged our defense of the country should it ever be necessary. I look forward to working with Denvaal in the future to increase the prosperity of people across Scandinavia.

EAC To Reconsider Economic Ties to African Community

Image

Following the findings of the EAC's Investigation of corruption within members of the proposed East African Economic Charter, the government discovered that the nations of Madagascar and Botswana have been using the funds for the personal gains of their leaders. Zimbabwe's government was not found to have siphoned any money from the project but at the same time it was discovered that the promised funds to help the EAC create the charter's incentives were absent from any government budget for the last two fiscal years. These coupled with the fact that all three nations have failed to continue military exercises with the EAC has caused the government and the Nuru administration to reconsider their ties with neighboring nations. The Rais called these findings "....Disheartening and disappointing..." and scheduled an emergency meeting between all of the Charter's member nations. Due to these findings, public support for the new Economic Charter has begun to waver and the revelation of these scandals has resulted in unrest across the neighboring nations of the EAC. It is unknown what the Rais hopes to accomplish during this meeting as many within the government now feel that this may be a lost cause and the current plan should be scrapped.

Army Deploys New M-27 Titan

Image

Today the army unveiled its new unit equipped with the M-27 Main Battle Tank. The 22nd Company which has been deployed with twelve of the new machines is a part of the 4th Army Division based in Livingstone, Zambia. This is the first time a unit has been outfitted with the machines and it also marks the full implantation of the Universal Combat Vehicle Program into the EAC's general forces. The M-27 is replacing the aging M-59 Patton tanks deployed with the 4th. The M-27 is not the only machine phasing out older models. The M-26 Zulu has also begun to be phased into the 3rd Division in limited number along with other units within the UCP line. The LCP line has also been seeing increased use across all Divisions of the EAC Army as the Zambia United Factories across the EAC begin to fill the military's long awaited orders. However, unlike when those orders were originally placed the machines are not being used to create new units, rather they are replacing machines bought from Canada during the EAC's military build-up. The Canadian equipment will be placed into storage for now at sites across the EAC where it will be maintained in case of a conflict arising. This is being done to cut costs and prevent a further military buildup within the EAC. This allows the EAC to roll out new equipment, cut costs, and gradually train its armored personnel on the operations of the new vehicles.

Amity Fleet Prepares to Open International Branches

Image

With the Amity Fleet completing its second year of education at Amity Academy and its forth year of operations globally, Amity Command has begun to explore the possibility of expanding the organization further then just the EAC. While the Fleet has branch offices for its major organizations, such as Amity Medical and Amity Shipbuilding, in other nations, these facilities and the majority of the personnel working within them are all citizens of the EAC and under the direction of the EAC government. This may soon change. The Amity Fleet is considering becoming an organization that operates independently of the EAC government and become something akin to the Red Cross. The EAC government will still fund and operate facilities as supporters of the fleet, but the nation's policies and political views will not affect the Fleet's operations. The motion is currently going through both the EAC Assembly and the Amity Fleet's newly established Amity Council which includes the heads of each Amity department to serve as a temporary legislative body for the process. While this process is still ongoing, the Fleet has begun communications to establish a branch of the Amity Fleet in France and has begun talks with the French Government. This would be the first step in creating a global network for the Fleet and creating more diplomatic channels and options toward peace. Other nations are being considered for branches, however, the Fleet is waiting for the decision of both the EAC Government and the French Government in order to decide what this new Amity Fleet will look like and what form the Amity Branches will take.

Currently, it looks like the Fleet will indeed get its wish and become independent of the EAC due to support from the legislature. Its offices and buildings within the EAC will simply be transferred into either international territory or EAC territory rented by the Fleet. Its international sites will have their leases transferred from the EAC government to the Fleet to ensure a smooth transition and no conflicts of interest abroad. However, the Lionsguard, which has maintained security of the Fleet and is a major part of Amity Command, will not be remaining as a part of the Fleet and the EAC's Naval Personnel will return to duty within the Patrol Fleets. While this will have some temporary downsides within the Fleet, Amity Command is confident that international support will mend this issue. Meanwhile, talks with French have resulted in the proposal of a few agreements between the two parties. The Fleet will be donating a single Amity Frigate, the unnamed FA-08, to the branch to conduct missions in Europe manned by French Amity Fleet members to operate and maintain the vessel both in port and at sea. A home port for this vessel and the Branch Headquarters has not yet been decided but both will likely be at the same location. Paris and Zanzibar will maintain daily communications to ensure transparency and conduct operations with the French Branch planned to operate independently from HQ unless a major event occurs or an international program is set in motion. All of this, including French funding for the branch is still being discussed by the two groups but the Amity Fleet is "Hopeful" that this endeavor will be a successful one. Should this succeed, it could result in the Amity Fleet becoming recognized as an true international organization.

Military descends on capital - fears of a coup d'état

Still in a period of mourning following the death of former President Nicolo Castillo and current President Desiree Alameda in Iceland for a conference, legions of armed men and women descended on the capital. In the early hours of the morning, armoured vehicles raced through the streets of Bogota accompanied by low-flying attack helicopters and fighter jets. In decisive action, several key organs of the Bolivarian Government were seized by the military including Miraflores Palace (the Presidential Palace), TeleSUR News Station along with the Puertollanoan Broadcasting Corporation, the Supreme Court and the National Assembly. The district head-quarters of the powerful state-run oil comapny, PDPSA, was also stormed by armed soldiers. Following this, the Conservative Minority Leader in the National Assembly appeared on state-run and corporate television. The man, Alejandro Piena, has dissuaded concerns of a possible military take-over of the government, but rather said it was a 'peaceful transfer of legitimate power'. For weeks, the Opposition and the influential corporate-media had claimed the transfer of power from Nicolo Castillo to Desiree Alameda was illegitimate in the constitution of the Bolivarian Republic. They claim that Desiree's ascendancy to the Presidential office and use of Presidential duties (including attending international conferences and conducting foreign policy) was counter to the wording of the constitution that requires the care-taker President to not exercise any official duties. As of now, the situation is still unknown. Many in Puertollano are confused or unaware of the events that transpired this morning, from Iceland, President Alameda declared it a coup d'etat and called for the mobilization of resistance to the efforts, but her twitter account was quickly suspended. The Supreme Court has been sacked and the new-self declared interim President, Alejandro Piena announced that he will oversee the re-appointment of a new 'non-political judiciary'. It is believed that neither the Minister of Defense or the High General had anything to do with planning or executing the military seizure of government, but their underlings who conspired against them. Leaked images on the internet depicted the arrest of both the Minister and the General shortly before the military descent on Bogota and other key cities in the Bolivarian Republic.

The new self-declared President Alejandro Piena was the Minority Leader in the National Assembly, and former Presidential candidate for the Conservative Round-Table Party in 2021. Before entering politics, he was the son of influential business tycoon and media magnate - these connections helped him develop a career in law where he worked for some of Puertollano's major conglomerates. From there, he entered politics and has never left since. Piena has previously asked for political asylum in the North American Federation during the Castillo-era and has been a stringent opponent of the late President. In a speech streamed on television following his announcement as the Interim-President of the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano, Piena has said that 'Christianity will return to the Republic' and that 'Indigenous Idols will return to the trash bin of history' in a clear reference to Castillo's religious beliefs.

FSR DEMANDS RETURN OF LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT IN PUERTOLLANO

July 8, 2027

President Fujimori's statement on the ongoing coup in Puertollano, approved and supported by the National Assembly of the FSR, has demanded the immediate return of legitimate democratic government under the elected socialist government. Fujimori has also blasted the American-based social media platform "Twitter" due to its censorship of the legitimate leader of Puertollano, President Alameda.

Fujimori has pledged to fight against the illegal censorship of the Piena fascist regime, and has authorized the use of Federation Broadcasting Authority to provide news and information to readers and listeners in Puertollano. Some speculate that the Fujimori Administration may be considering additional action, as social media users have noticed increased fighter patrols, and military transport aircraft taking off to the sky. Notwithstanding, in a press conference Fujimori has stated that "The restoration of proletarian democracy in Puertollano is of upmost importance."

Interim Government announces privatization regime - social groups rally

Following a surprise seizure of government by opposition forces with the support of the military, the new Interim President Alejandro Piena has announced the first priorities of his new government. Piena announced at Ten-Point Privatization Plan, which includes the de-funding and liberalization of ten key sectors of the economy. These include the selling of the state-run oil company (PDPSA), the national healthcare service, all public education, the rail system, state-run mines, food distributors, state-run media, national internet broadband company, public housing and social welfare services. The new Interim Government has already said it is currently in negotiations to sell these sectors to several bidders, both domestically and internationally. Unable to pass such a measure through the socialist-controlled National Assembly, the Interim President has ordered the National Assembly and Indigenous People's Assembly to be dissolved and all legislative power to be handed to the new National Security Council, consisting of military, business and opposition figures involved in the coup d'tat. They have already approved of the Ten-Point Privatization Plan. However, much of the corporate media denies what occurred in the seizure of power, denying that a coup ever happened. Spokespeople from the new Interim Government have claimed that the procedure was non-violent and all legal according to the Constitution.

In reaction to the coup, many social groups are beginning to organise in opposition. Despite the arrest of many key figures in the National Bolivarian People's Militia, there are already building movements that plan to march into the capital should the new government not cede power back to the elected-socialist government. Already in the barrios, security forces aligned with the Interim President have clashed with pro-socialist protesters. Many of the nations poor who have be threatened with social welfare cuts and privatization are calling for the scrapping of the Ten-Point Plan and for Desiree Alameda to be returned as President. Collectivos are threatening civil war. The National Miners and Petroleum Worker's Union is threatening a devastating general strike. Many of the indigenous groups say they intend to march on Miraflores Palace until the 'fascist regime' relinquishes control. President Desiree Alameda has flown back to South America, taking refuges in the FSR, she has indicated that the masses with re-take power from the corporate clutches should they not peacefully surrender immediately. In response, the Interim President Piena has re-iterated that his government will not be forced out with protest or threats. Rather, he has called on opposition supporters to rally to the streets to defeat the impending wave of Castillo and socialist supporters. The current situation is a boiling pot ready to burst.
