HORROR IN LETICIA

August 12, 2026

This afternoon while on his way to Leticia airport President Dias' car was struck by a van at high speed, which then exploded into a fireball visible from blocks away. Statements from the Leticia Police Department have stated that the attack occurred while the president was traveling through an intersection. The van had smashed through the roadblock blocking the intersection before igniting a car bomb made of ANFO explosive. Dias and his chauffeur, as well as five escorting police officers and the bomber were all killed, and their bodies could not be clearly distinguished from each other after the event. The driver of the van that struck Dias believed to have been Tomas Flores, a miner associated with the "Christian People's Front" organization. However, when reached for comment the CPF has strongly rejected responsibility for the attack. The devastating attack has led to make reporters asking how the National Security Service failed to prevent the attack, and has placed its competence into question.

Director Alessandri of the NSS attributed the success of the attack to a major intelligence failure. While NSS agents had been monitoring Flores for weeks due to his association with the CPF, the night before the attack Flores was able to escape the surveilance NSS. He switched his clothing with another member of the CPF with a similar build and height. They had also switched their phones, as well as their home and car keys. The switch meant that the NSS agents assigned to monitor Flores followed the wrong man the night before the attack. By morning they had realized their mistake. But by that point it was too late, and they had lost track of Flores. Additionally, the NSS has also released a note mail by Flores two weeks before the attack, which provides clues to why Dias may have been targeted in particular. Dias was an avowed atheist, and in the past he had publicly criticized the "nonsensical theocratic tendencies" of various Christian groups. Flores' letter had referred to Dias as a Satanist, indicating that the attack had been carried out for religious regions.

As Dias' running mate, now-President Fujimori is expected to complete the remainder of Dias' term, though if he governs as Dias would have is an open question. Dias had chosen Fujimori as his running mate in a bid to widen his base of appeal. Fujimori, known (sometimes affectionately) as "El Chino," has large support in his home state of Andea. But he's not as well known in Orostan and is largely overshadowed in name recognition and support by Dias in major Orostani cities. Just coming into office, one of Fujimori's principle tasks will be to deal with the growing Zackarothian Flu outbreak. Fujimori has intensified the quarantine efforts of Dias, and in his first presidential order has ordered the entirety of the Amazonas Province to be placed under strict quarantine. Many have critiqued this move, calling the move an "exaggeration" for a viral outbreak with only several hundred cases.

Multi-faith Conference a Success

A large multi faith conference was held in Iran over the past week. Invited and hosted by the Prime Minister, prominent faith leaders and many religious leaders flocked to Tehran for a conference on understanding, peace, respect, and the foundations of a tolerant society. They also had numerous meetings dedicated to shared theological understandings in the pursuit of truth and divinity on this Earth. The meeting was attended by the chief leaders of the Shi'a branch of Islam in Iran, Grand Muftis of Sunni Muslims, jurists of both branches of Islam, as well as Alawite Leaders, Druze faith leaders, Yazidi leaders, leaders of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Bishop of Iran and other Catholic leaders, Rabbis from Iran, Iraq, and Syria, Maronite leaders, leaders of the Syrian Orthodox Church, leaders of the Greek Orthodox Church, Reformed Church of Canada and Lutheran leaders, Zoroastrian leaders as well. The biggest multi faith conference in the history of the country. It was widely believed PM Shahram Khoroushi was looking for a major legacy marking event of his tenure, but he was often overshadowed by Yekrhebr (One Leader) Davud Akbar who inaugurated the conference with a major speech on tolerance, respect, and building a tolerant society. The Prime Minister was believed to be annoyed by Akbar's large presence at the conference in what was believed to simply be as an observer and figurehead. One the first day of the conference there were speeches and procedure that went on for hours and hours. On the second day this continued. On the third day the conference voted on several measures calling for interfaith peace and understanding, as well as denouncing religious violence and terror. Various statements were adopted that condemned female genital mutilation, honor killings, kidnappings, suicide attacks, acid attacks, knife attacks and many other abhorrent and vile activities. The conference also voted for measures declaring the equality of all human beings "before god" (a victory for women's rights activists). All of these votes were unanimous, in a sign of unity and consensus that many believe was strong-armed together by the personality and force of will of Davud Akbar. The rest of the third day as well as the fourth day was occupied by separate conference meetings of the leaders discussing theology as well as public policy in regards to religion. On the fifth day there were more speeches and the closure of the conference with all the assembled singing various religious hymns, prayers for peace were sung in many languages, and finally the national anthem. All agreed it was a heartwarming show of unity and respect. Persia continues on the path to the development of a tolerant society! Many believe that a larger conference could occur in Jerusalem soon.

Batra Exposed- Massive Corruption in Sarek Initiative and Statoil
Image
A small, Helsinki-based newspaper recently reported on a memo they accidentally received through a Freedom of Information request which outlines a massive corruption scandal with the state's oil company: Statoil. According to their report, which is currently being denied by both Statoil's management and Prime Minister Batra's office, the government has been siphoning billions in profits from the oil giant's coffers, and funneling it into the pockets of the nation's leaders, including the PM himself.

The Stockholm Gazette is awaiting independent verification of these accusations, but the evidence the Enquirer presented is supposedly an official memorandum, released by the office of Statoil's chief executive: Freyj Poulsen.

According to the scathing report, the Sarek Initiative, originally intended to decrease the nation's dependence on fossil fuels, has been riddled with its corruption from the very beginning. Statoil made an agreement with the Prime Minister's office to send payments directly, rather than through the Ministry of the Treasury. This allowed PM Batra to take a sizable cut, often over a billion dollars a year, of the environmental initiative's funding. Reportedly, payments have been traced to members of the National Riksdag, kickbacks to Statoil executives, and even Ghanian officials during the Nigerian Conflict.

We will bring you more information on this breaking story as it becomes available.

The Conservative Party walks out of the Riksdag
As news channels broadcast the unfolding scandal at Statoil, Andreas Fleicher, the leader of the Conservative Party's 156 members of the Riksdag, reportedly called on his party to conduct a walkout at the emergency session called yesterday afternoon.

As the speaker of the Riksdag called for quorum, the members of the Conservative party stood up and walked out of the chamber. The silence echoed through the halls of the Parliament House, as many members of the Left Party, Green Party, and even two members of the governing Social Democrat party followed the Conservatives out of the hall. The Parliament was unable to meet quorum in order to vote for emergency legislation yesterday, but a vote of no confidence for the Prime Minister is expected to occur sometime tonight.

MR Fleicher made the following statement regarding the actions of the Prime Minister:
Batra has shown once again how untrustworthy he is, and we must now take dramatic action to quell the corruption that is so rampant in our administration. I am shocked by this flagrant abuse of power, which I did not expect even a Social Democrat to stoop down to. The only definitive message I have for the people and my constituents at this time is to expect radical legislation in the coming days.

Chaos Spills over the Gulf of Bothnia
Today in the Finnish Enduskunta, members of the Finnish National party put forward two separate pieces of legislation to secede from the Nordic Federation. The motions never got to the floor for voting, but are a definite sign of the chaos and frustration being felt around the country at the actions of the Prime Minister.

Though the full extent of this scandal has not been confirmed, or even acknowledged, the Enduskunta did formally condemn the PM's actions, and put in their own ceremonial vote of no-confidence, which has no legal effect on the national level. News channels in Helsinki have been genuinely putting forward the question of secession, with political pundits on the right supporting the notion of a once-again independent Finland.

The Eastern state will be yet another challenge the PM faces in the coming days as he faces removal from office and the near complete revolt of the Riksdag and regional Parliaments alike.

Rome court begins proceedings in Tulsi Gama v PM Borut Pahor defamation suit

Image
The PM was confronted whilst on a hike with his son.
Today the Tribunale Court of Rome began proceedings in the case of Tulsi Gama v PM Borut Pahor, a recently filed suit against the Prime Minister from Portuguese MP Tulsi Gama following comments made to Rai News by the Prime Minister criticising the rhetoric of the Portuguese presidential hopeful towards the DEU. Ms Gama has claimed defamation of character against the PM, "Claiming the Italian Prime Minister is actively "carelessly and recklessly impugning" her reputation when he suggested to Portuguese voters not to elect her President." - according to the Portuguese paper Diário de Noticias.

Gama is suing for €50 million, claiming that she is actively suffering an economic loss due to the comments. The legal team of the PM has rejected the claims stating that the Prime Minister acted within his constitutional rights, and as he was commenting on publicly made remarks by Gama he is not culpable for defamation of character, as Gama is allegedly 'personally liable for any repercussions encountered from public speeches.'

Reporters from Rai and several other Italian networks and newspapers approached the Prime Minister whilst he was on a hike in the countryside just outside of Rome this morning with his son Luka, confronting him on the legal proceedings and asking fro his comments. The Prime Minister refused to comment, stating that "I am unable to comment on an ongoing case, however an official statement will be released following the cases closure."

Rai has spoken with several legal experts who claim that the case appears to be in the PM's favour, and expect the case to be found in his favour, but say that the case would likely be sent to the Court of Appeal by Gama's lawyers in the event that the PM wins.

Progress on the JSI

[box]With the Joint Space Initiative (JSI) recently receiving funding from the federal government the public eye is turned toward the private space collaboration to see if the investment will be paying off. With over a year to conduct construction on Ukora Island, it appears that the JSI has made good use of both time and money, but not on all fronts. All twenty six miles of highway that were planned to span the island are either completed or are in the final phase of construction while one of the three bridges are completed. The remaining two bridges are under construction and span a combined total of six miles and pass over Kweru Island which will be the site of a security checkpoint for the Space Complex. The estimated completion for the dual bridges is February 2028 meaning until then all materials for the complex must be shipped in via air and lake. E-Tech's hybrid airships have been running around the clock to ensure there is a constant flow of material while barges have been coming and going through the town of Bwisya. The humble little town of Bwisya has seen its own boon in construction with all of the incoming traffic into the harbor leading to additional concrete piers being constructed. The town has also received paved roads and the water purification system they were promised by JSI along with new fishing boats and improved telecommunications. The islands new power plant is still under construction and will provide power to both local towns and to the complex, but that is not slated to enter operation until 2029, forcing JSI to lay underwater cables across Lake Victoria from the mainland to provide the island power, giving locals access to reliable electricty. However, the northern towns of Kifuli and Bukiko still lack many of the amenities given to their southern neighbor beyond paved roads and highway access. Further, residents from the eastern side of the island who have been relocated due to the construction are currently squatting in the three towns in hastily constructed shelters. JSI has confirmed that full scale housing is on its way for the displaced citizens but gave no date to when that will arrive. This has caused those who were relocated to view this project in a negative light and has led many to petition the government for intervention.

While the projects in the western half of Ukora have either been partially completed or underway, the same cannot be said for the eastern half of the island. The last year has mostly been leveling land with heavy equipment, getting zoning permissions, and laying the groundwork for roads, pipes, power lines, and launch pads. The amount of clearing has confirmed that the site is 15 square kilometers, making it one of the largest space sites in the world, though neither the government or the JSI has commented on why so much space has been put aside for the facility. One of the few facilities that has seen actual construction is a large runway two miles in length along with three large sheet metal hangers that JSI has stated are temporary. The runway and hangers will facilitate easier transport of personnel and materials to the site to speed construction up as well as be the first operation portion of the complex. Construction on mission control, the launchpads, and the rest of the spaceport is supposed to begin next month thanks to the 1.6 Billion from the government. Construction on the test range, astronaut training facilities, testing laboratories, and a proposed rocket assembly site are supposed to start by the end of this year. JSI has stated that they plan to complete the entire project by 2037 with the goal of launching their first payload from a launch pad in 2029. Due to low funding, material, and technical know-how JSI has also confirmed that it will be taking the entire construction process one day at a time and adjust the construction schedule as needed.

While progress has been made at Ukora, many have criticized the treatment of those displaced an the rest of the island's local population. This has caused JSI, E-Tech, and Afrika Aerospace to come under public criticism for this act and while the government has not acted as of yet, it is expected that action will be taken, especially with government funds now being diverted to the project. What lies ahead for this project remains uncertain, but its seems that the EAC will have a direct line to space in the not too distant future.

Sara Palveiro endorses Joao Barcelos, calls for national unity

On a sultry summer day, with loud music and cheering, it was a political rally that took on the trappings of a festival. With 6 days to go until the first round vote, former President Sara Palveiro endorsed Conservadores candidate Joao Barcelos yesterday, hoping to convince legions of CHEGA! voters to rally around her one-time rival from the 2019 Presidential Election.

Praising each other and locking hands in unity, the one term President and former Prime Minister strode onto an outdoor stage in Vila Real, waving to a crowd of 4,000 squeezed into a soccer field.

It was a day of choreographed unity with the two appearing together before the public for the first time. Four weeks after the Hyper Democrats backed the Conservadores candidate, CHEGA! leader Sara Palveiro followed Calahan Chaves' endorsement of Barcelos and pledged to do all she could to help Joao Barcelos win Belem Palace in the election.

The former President spoke first, with Barcelos sitting on a stool. Doing a red fleece zip up, he listened intently and often led the applause at her remarks. The crowd, a mix of loyal supporters of Joao Barcelos and die-hard admirers of Sara Palveiro, broke into a chant of “Joao! Joao! Joao!” A few moments later, several women in the crowd led a chant of “Sara! Sara! Sara!”
If you like the direction the country is going, then vote for the liberals, but if you think we need a new course, a new agenda, then vote for guy. Joao Barcelos will make Portugal great again!
the CHEGA! leader told the crowd.

Palveiro urged her party to come to Barcelos side, reminding them
Each vote you cast isn't just another ballot. Each vote cast you cast is prayer for our nation.

Palveiro's endorsement of Barcelos left nothing out. She described his agenda as her party's agenda –- the only option for those who believe in the things she fought for when she was president.

When she finished speaking, the crowd chanted her name. Palveiro and Barcelos embraced and held their clasped hands high. Then he took a turn at the microphone. Barcelos implored CHEGA! voters to join his Conservadores campaign. Praising Portugal's first female President, he said:
My daughters and all your daughters will know there's no barrier to who they are. . . . They will take for granted women can do anything that the boys can do, and do it better, and do it in heels. I still don't know how she does it in heels.

He praised Palveiro for her term as president, for the barriers she broke and for the inspiration she's given to women. He also praised her decades of public service.

Barcelos will certainly count on Palveiro to campaign for him and help deliver a strong first round result. Having a former president endorse and campaign for a presidential candidate is a surprising rarity in Portuguese politics.

Tulsi Gama on suing Italian PM: Pahor's 'smear' was a DEU attempt meant to intimidate and silence me

Alternative for Portugal candidate Tulsi Gama, on Wednesday filed a $50 million defamation suit against Italian Prime Minister Borut Pahor for his Rai News comments in an attempt to "intimidate" her using "smear tactics" and suppress her freedom of speech.

Appearing on Bom Dia Portugal, Gama cited her record of public service, from her time in the Republican National Guard to her four terms as a National Assembly MP.
I have dedicated my entire adult life to serving our country and for Borut Pahor and the powerful DEU elite to attempt to smear me and accuse me -- really implying that I'm a threat to the country that I love -- and interfering in our elections, is something that I cannot allow to go unchecked,
she said.
That is an unprecedented act of interference in the sovereignty of our country,
Gama continued. She added that:
Pahor's interference in Portugal's affairs shows that the DEU wants to incite the Portuguese against each other. Once again, this is a clear attempt to try to intimidate and silence those like me who are speaking out -- who are being critical of DEU policies -- the legacy of war-mongering and taking our country into unnecessary, stupid, wasteful regime change wars. Speaking out against this foreign policy establishment is something that the DEU clearly doesn't like, which is why they are attempting to do all they can to try to smear my reputation and undermine my campaign.

The complaint was filed Wednesday in the Tribunal Court of Rome. In her complaint, Gabma asserts that Pahor deliberately and maliciously made false statements in an attempt to derail her 2026 campaign by warning against her candidacy. Gama's argument also includes Borut Pahor's clear violation of Portuguese election laws.

MMLF Statement
August 17, 2026
Image
MMLF Troopers in formation.

The Moro Muslim Liberation Front has recently released a video stating that they will reform and reaffirm the organization's ideals. The MMLF will refrain from using punishments and treatments of prisoner of wars that break human rights laws. The MMLF will also release all civilian prisoners and will desist from directly killing civilians in the future. The reason for the lighter changes is to preserve the Muslim title of the "Religion of Peace", but no doubt that the MMLF will still fight for the secession of Mindanao from the Philippines, and in the future maybe joining another Islamic state, such as Greater Indonesia.

The video ends after the MMLF calls for Muslims around the Philippines to join the effort to break Mindanao out of the grip of the Philippine Democratic Party, who are "prejudiced against the Muslims", so they can create a state where Muslims are not discriminated, and are all welcome.

Several, presumably all civilian hostages are then handed to the military and police in Zamboanga City.

Your Weekly Update:

Climate Protesters Begin Petition: A number of climate groups involved with the national protests tomorrow have published a petition demanding that San Martinia spearhead the creation of a new international organization, entirely focused on environmental protection, which will establish laws and regulations for member states to follow. These climate groups all adhere to the thinking first stated by Sofia Alberti, a member of the Youths for the Climate group, which find the CSN's abilities in the area have been lacking, and thus, other methods to protect the environment must be pursued. The petition already has thousands of signatures online, and Senator Martínez, who has already promised attendance to the protest in the capital, said that she would author the petition into a proposal for the legislature should it reach 500,000 signatures.

Nicolás Montenegro Claims Assasination Attempt: Former environmental consult of San Martinia's CSN delegation, Nicolás Montenegro, made some seemingly paranoid accusations today, despite government officials claiming they have "no leads" in the investigation days after his car exploded in front of his house. He said that "the oil companies did it," seemingly in retaliation to his Regulation of Heavy Crude Oil proposal in the CSN, which failed to pass. He pointed to widespread backlash in Persia against the proposal as proof that "the oil companies are nervous," although when asked if he had any evidence, his only response was "who else could it be?" Despite these supposed threats to his life, Montenegro will be attending the climate protest in the capital tomorrow.

Leaked Audio Proves Sánchez Hates Tulsi Gama: Although several sources over the past few months have reported President Sánchez's intense dislike for Tulsi Gama, a current candidate for the Portuguese presidency, a lack of acknowledgement of these rumors from the President or any official sources prevented any corroboration. Now, an anonymous source released an audio tape to the press of President Sánchez criticizing Gama. Referring to her visit to Puertollano to receive "that ridiculous medal" as "proof that her loyalties lie with them, not to the people of Portugal," the president predicted that the Luso-San Martinian relationship "would be dead" under her presidency. He also called her "unfounded" criticism of the DEU and "frivolous" lawsuit against Italian Prime Minister Borut Pahor "clear signs of her anti-European sentiments." Finally, the audio cuts off as the president describes her proposed referendum on CSN membership as "an attempt to lead Portugal into disobeying international law, alongside her Puertollanoan overlords." The president's office declined a request to comment.

Gama meets with FSR’s Fujimori ahead of presidential election

Orostani President Fujimori granted an audience to Alternative for Portugal leader Tulsi Gama in the FSR on Friday, bestowing a level of international recognition that has so far made her controversial in the countdown to the first round vote.

Gesticulating energetically across the table from the recently sworn-in President, she called for “developing relations” with the FSR and “cooperation” in Galician reconstruction.

Both were nods to her presidential campaign platform, which advocates closer ties with Puertollano, the FSR and rejection of the DEU.

The past two Portuguese administration have shown themselves unsympathetic to South America. Portugal is technically still at war with Puertollano and the FSR, but Gama’s meeting with Fujimori would not be her first. She’s previously met with and accepted the Simon Bolivar award from Puertollano President Castillo. Gama is the first high profile Portuguese official to meet with FSR leadership under any capacity.

The meeting highlighted the potential for a general realignment of relations with the FSR.
Trade with the FSR is often frowned upon by warmongers deep in the deep pockets of the DEU, but signing deals similar to what Pacifica has would do be an extraordinary opportunity to connect our Portuguese speaking countries and would do Portugal well in reality.
said Gama who has so far sowed continuously alarm on both sides of the Atlantic.

Gama told reporters after the talks that the aim of her visit to the FSR was not to boost her election chances, though her meeting with Fujimori is likely to go down well with her core supporters at home. Her Fujimori meeting was not disclosed to reporters nor the public and only became known when the MP suddenly appeared in the FSR. Her trip comes as big surprise with only 2 days to election day.

Tulsi Gama rips Carlos Sanchez over leaked comments, calls San Martinian President “ineffective”

Alternative for Portugal candidate Tulsi Gama said in an interview during her FSR trip that the leaked audio of San Martinian President Carlos Sanchez were reminiscent of insults hurled by schoolyard bullies. Gama added that his remarks were symptomatic of “DEU puppets.”
Portugal’s election is not about what Sanchez wants. It’s not about Portugal’s relationship with San Martinia. Frankly, the negativity that can be heard from him about South American neighbors is telling of how ineffective he is. It’s not about his DEU masters want. It’s about what my country needs. There are real issues that Portuguese are struggling with, and they're wondering, “Why are our leaders not working for us?”
Gama said in the interview.

Arrogant Foreign Bureaucrat Condemned!

Former San Martinian Nicolás Montenegro, despite being disciplined by his government for his foolishness, hubris, and arrogance on the world stage continues to run his mouth. After his car exploded in a gas accident spurned on by his own personal foolishness, he implied Persian State Oil (PetroPersia) was behind an assassination attempt in regards to the explosion of his car and said that "the oil companies are nervous." His baseless attacks on the industries of the Persian people have been torn apart on the nightly news, where analyst after analyst, and representatives from PetroPersia mocked his claims, proved them false, and were saddened by the unfair accusations. Leaders from every political party condemned the man who makes a mockery of himself. Petroleum is the lifeblood of Persian industry and prosperity, we have such an abundance of oil that only inspires jealousy. The nationalization of the oil industry built our power grid, our piping systems, our roads and bridges, our sanitation systems, or healthcare system, and the most powerful army in the east. The Persian Government has merely released a statement opposing international regulation of crude, promoted the fact that most Persians actually get their power from nuclear plants rather than oil (which is largely exported) and thanked the San Martinian government for firing the foolish Montenegro.

Corruption Spreads in Allied Nations

Image
Today the EAC government officially began investigating the rumors of corruption within the allied nation of Madagascar following reports of the misuse of EAC Funding that had been misused by the current administration. These reports come following associate member nations of the EAC such as Botswana, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe falling behind on their roadmap to implement the East African Economic Charter and other failings from allied governments. Botswana has failed to send troops to the standard three month training drills twice this fiscal year, Zimbabwe's government has not attended a single EAC Meeting since February, and Madagascar's general inability to correctly handle funds have all been under scrutiny by the public who continue to have taxpayer dollars sent to these nations to aid with development. Only Katanga is currently on track with its adoption of the Economic Charter and its implementation of the African passport and the removal of tariffs between itself and the EAC. Rais Nuru has commented that the EAC will be "...Conducting an investigation of the use of our funding and the levels of corruption within the governments of our allies....". The Rais did not state if any of the funding would be cut or what agencey would be heading the investigation, but it is clear that the EAC will not be taking the misuse of funds as lightly as Madagascar had been expecting.

An African Agricultural Revolution

The agriculture sector of the Commonwealth's economy has finally completed the shift away from cash crops after two years of government and international investment. In the wake of this transition, corn, wheat, and beef have become the dominate products from farms leading to the Commonwealth's citizens having access to a steady and healthy food supply. However, the harvesting of these products still requires weeks of work and is all done by hand or plow. The EAC Government is now changing this via the modernization of agricultural equipment. Mechanized plows, tractors, and harvesters are now being bought in bulk and will be distributed to farms by production yield to have the most impact on the production rates. These funds come from part of the Military Budget Cut and the machines are primarily coming from North America. It is the hope of the EAC that the mechanization of the labor force will reduce production time and increase stockpiles in the long term. Farmers have mixed feelings about the change as many have been taught the practice over generations and view mechanization with a wary eye. Further, the thousands of laborers on farms will be out of a job, causing unemployment to go up and create an income gap across the EAC. Rais Nuru has stated that a project is "...in the works to address the concerns of our laborers..." and that once this project is up and running the farm equipment will be shipped out. What exactly this project is remains unknown for now.

Hydro-power Supercharges Malawi

Image
After two years of construction along the coastline and river-lands of Lake Malawi, the E-Tech hydropower Gird is now fully online. A series of over 1,000 small turbines along rivers, streams, and the coast of the lake provide power to the thousands of people living in what many consider to be the EAC's overlooked member state. Where Malawi was one of the poorest and most isolated nations in Africa in 2023 it is now supercharged by this new electric grid. 78% of its citizens now have access to not only a constant supply of electricity, but purified water thanks to the turbines. Further, E-Tech paved many of the local roads in order to get access to some of the more isolated build sites, creating a local road network to go along with the EAC's highway system. The villages across Malawi have seen living stands increase, a noticeable improvement in health, and a rise in economic activity. E-Tech's efforts have been praised by the EAC government and local citizens alike, however, the company has stated that while it will celebrate its success it still has future plans. E-Tech has already begun construction on a series of radio and telecommunications towers that will bring the digital age to these isolated communities and to Malawi as a whole. There have also been rumors that the turbine project could be making its way north toward Lake Victoria, but these reports are still unconfirmed.

SARS-H11 Outbreak Continues

August 25, 2026

The SARS-H11 outbreak - more commonly known as the Zackarothian Flu - continues to expands. It has been just over a month since the epidemic began, and there are now 6,214 confirmed cases and 248 confirmed deaths in the FSR. Most of the outbreak is still concentrated in the Manaus and the Amazonas province in general, but worrying new reports have dozens of confirmed cases in the cities of Lima and Sao Paulo. However, the Health Service has estimated that there are hundreds of additional cases going under the radar within just those two cities. Under a new executive order, Fujimori has ordered the quarantine of these cities as well. According to Fujimori, it is suspected that SARS-H11 has originated from a bioweapon(s), and thus drastic measures must be taken.

Within the Amazonas, where the outbreak originated from, the situation continues to deteriorate. Panic buying has set in, as many stores have reported being completely depleted of food and toilet paper. The sudden influx of shoppers into stores have also been suspected of acting as a vector for infection. In response, provincial authorities have announced plans to begin rationing the amount of goods shoppers can buy, and limiting the number of shoppers that can enter a store at a time.

There have also been numerous reports of people having escaped the lock-down to be with their families and loved ones. In response, roadblocks were set in the region's relatively few highways, and several vessels were sent to patrol the waterways. A few escapees, not deterred nonetheless, have chosen to wander off into the rain forests. These reckless action has been condemned by the Amazonas' governor, saying they needlessly placed others and themselves at risk.

Within the halls of the People's Assembly a new bill has recently been passed, which aims to counter the spread of the virus. Called the "SARS-H11 Act," the new bill introduces several new sweeping provisions. For one, in all quarantined areas, non-essential work will ceased, and schools will be shut down. Plans have been made for the introduction of online schooling, but they haven't gone into effect as of yet. Additionally, a curfew will be put into place in quarantined areas, forbidding people from unnecessarily traveling outside their homes or gathering in large groups. The sale of face-masks to the public would also be rationed for the time-being.

Another part of the bill involved the introduction of the "Color Code" app for the duration of the SARS-H11 outbreak. Phones within the Federation will receive a phased rollout depending on their location - which would automatically install an over the air update. This update would install Color Code, which would give one of three color codes to each person: Green if they're likely SARS-H11 negative, yellow if there's a risk of them being positive due to having been at proximity with others at risk (and thus should quarantine), and red if they have tested positive. The time needed for an individual quarantine is still currently unknown, but its believed to be in between to three weeks. In addition to being accessible from the app, the color-code screen would be reachable by swiping left on the lock-screen, without the need for a password. If the color code was red or yellow, a QR code would also appear on the bottom-right, which would allow authorities (with a special digital key) to get access to the phone's location history - which would be stored internally. Displaying the color code will be necessary to enter certain places, such as schools, public transport, restaurants, etc. Additionally, the Color Code app would warn people if they get close to an at risk person. It would also upload anonymous location statistics, which will allow the Health Service to see where people congregate.

In order to insure the full-roll out of the Color Code app, agreements have been reached with Pacifican and Chinese phone brands, which make up the vast majority of foreign-built cellphones in the FSR. Additional downloadable apps will also be created. One planned app will show a real time map of the SARS-H11 outbreak within the FSR, as well as the age, gender, and symptoms of those diagnosed SARS-H11 positive.

While not part of the SARS-H11 act, advise would also be given on social distancing and wearing face-masks - or makeshift ones if supplies ran out. In order to distribute information, pamphlets would be handed out in school, mass texts would be sent to phones within the Federation, and state messages would air during television breaks. Lastly, the Health Service would put up a web-page detailing information on SARS-H11 prevention.

Through the measures, its hoped that the effects of the SARS-H11 outbreak can be mostly mitigated. But the issue regarding a shortage of test kits still persists. The ratio of tests to those confirmed positive has been increasing as of late, with a huge spike of confirmed cases occurring last week as new test kits arrived.

While factories have been ordered to expand production of test kits and ventilators about three weeks ago, clearly that wasn't enough. To deal with the issue, the National Industrial Board had ordered factories across the Federation to switch production, and start specializing in production of testing equipment, protective equipment, and ventilators. Many laboratories have also been ordered to retool for SARS-H11 testing, and work on a vaccine has begun.

Fact Checking Portugal and the Democratic European Union

For better or worse, the verbal and legal sparring between Tulsi Gama (Leader of Alternative for Portugal) and Borut Pahor (Prime Minister of Italy, Leader of Partito Democratico) has grown to dominate European and international news headlines in recent days. We at the Continental Standard are concerned that the ongoing coverage of judicial proceedings in Rome is diverting attention from the true facts and misconceptions of the political issue which was being debated. The alleged case of defamation and violation of Portuguese electoral law is of course a matter of great importance which must be investigated through the correct legal pathways, however it is this media outlet's role as a fourth power of Europe to hold the DEU accountable for both its successes and failings. Consequently, this article seeks to evaluate Portuguese membership of the Democratic European Union from a perspective which is decoupled from the events of Gama v Pahor.

Periphery Partnership

Prior to attaining membership of the DEU, the government of Portugal requested the establishment of a Lusophone Mission to the DEU (LM-DEU). This was an unprecedented arrangement; allowing a non-member of the Union full access to the proceedings of the institutions in Strasbourg? The DEU Assembly not only granted the request out of goodwill and respect, but signed a Memorandum of Understanding to agree upon shared principles and values to guide the relationship between the Union and LM-DEU; including respect of sovereignty, national interests, DEU ideals of the union, and shared concerns surrounding the security and prosperity of Europe. From the begining, the relationship between the Union and Portugal was always built upon a strong foundation of common interests and benefit.

Accession to full membership

The Portuguese government's decision to seek full membership within the DEU was greeted enthusiastically in Strasbourg, and across the wider continent. From the outset of negotiations, Portugal made it clear to the Union that due to the nation's geopolitical position it would not be able to tolerate visa-free travel arrangements within the European Internal Market. The DEU Assembly was again willing to approve a special arrangement for Portugal, which remains to this day. The movement of goods, services and capital between Portugal and the EIM states continues to flow freely, connecting Portuguese consumers and producers to a market of approximately 623 million people - larger than the total population of South America by a significant margin. The other member states of Europe are also prevented from seeking to abuse their access in Portugal's market, by means of the Competition and Externality Watchdog.

Global economic influence

Through the DEU, Portugal has gained either full or partial tariff-free access to the markets of FUNA, China, Australia, San Martina, Persia, and Indonesia. In most cases, these agreements also including removal of capital controls, export subsidies and dumping to create a level playing field for Portuguese firms internationally, while also lower prices for Portuguese importers and consumers. The new Eurozone policy sphere will also lead to the elimination of risk through exchange rate fluctuations, and reduce transaction costs to promote enhanced competitiveness for Portugal within the continent and globally. The DEU also protects Portugal from foreign goods produced using illegal and unethical practices, establishing regulatory framework which ensures compliance with environmental, labor rights and geographic origin & indication policies.

Human, Environment & Societal benefits

As a result of their DEU membership, Portuguese agricultural and horticultural producers are entitled to cash payments which target productivity and sustainability; with eligibility for the smallest family farmer or most ambitious of enterprise. The European Standard Bank's strategic investment fund also seek to facilitate growth in Portuguese small, medium and large scale businesses. The DEU also offers Portugal access to a comprehensive European Unemployment Insurance scheme, Guaranteed Deposit Protection for deposits of up to 100,000 Francs (or equivalent), and a reserve requirement for banks as part of efforts to fortify and safeguard the European economy from external shocks.

Environmental policies such as the Rewilding Europe Initiative, Climate Stabilization Compact, Zero-Emission Vehicle Initiative, Anti-Acidification Agreement, Ozone Protection Regulation, Continental Waste Coordination and European Air Pollution Agency ensure that Portugal is able to reap the benefits of sustainability without unfairly handicapping national income growth or becoming vulnerable to carbon leakage. The European Energy Union and Energy Scheme not only guarantee Portugal a steady supply of traditional sources of fossil fuels under current practical requirements, but also ensure that green sources lower household and company electricity bills as they become price competitive.

The Personal Information Protection Directive is perhaps the strongest data regulation in the world, providing every Portuguese citizen with the right to access their own personal information held by entities within the DEU EIM and even the right be forgotten. Portugal is also able to be part of the European Committee for Entertainment, Media, and Information, which seeks to promote cultural exchange and the free movement of information and entertainment. The Portable Electronic Device Regulation protects Portuguese consumer rights - including the right to repair, establishment of a common charging port, and continued device/software support.

Alternative for Portugal's economic policies and Europe

At a recent campaign rally, Alternative for Portugal, called for a DEU membership referendum and put forth a series of economic policy announcements. These included;

...[taxation of] imports and foreigners’ job contracts, lower the retirement age, raise welfare benefits and cut income tax while curbing migration, slashing crime rates, expelling illegal migrants and hiring 15,000 new police officers.

As part of the DEU EIM, Portugal is one of the primary beneficiaries of the Common External Border Policy - the country receives DEU funding to secure their own land, airspace, and territorial water boundaries, and is offered European Security Force assistance if additional enforcement manpower is required. As previously stated, Portugal retains sovereignty over its migration policies - Europeans are not given any special treatment. The DEU's Bureau for Regulated Migration is also actively working at entry points to Europe and in Africa in order to eliminate dangerous undocumented travel across the Mediterranean Sea, Euro Sea and land corridors. Portugal's police forces benefit from the Joint Law Enforcement Protocol of the EIM, which enables them to manage deportations and extraditions in Europe in addition to receive full access to the DEU's common judicial database (which holds data including criminal records, known associates and affiliations, locations, and evidence related to criminal acts). Portugal retains the right to tax imports from countries outside of Europe that are not given full tariff-free market access in the form of ERAs or Periphery Partnerships, and even in those cases may impose quota systems freely. Portuguese citizens are also entitled to welfare under the European Social Entitlements Collection Scheme and Continental Healthcare Accord; whether they reside in Lisbon, or as far as Vladivostok. Portugal retains full autonomy in setting income tax brackets.

"DEU warmongers?"

In a recent interview Tulsi Gama made the following statement on potential post-DEU foreign policy under Alternative for Portugal;

Before President Sara Palveiro sold out to the DEU warmongers, her "multipolar" approach, I believe was the right foreign policy. Portugal is a global country. I don't know why our leaders are limiting our country to Europe. There are 260 million Portuguese speakers across the globe, millions in South America if I may point out. Portugal's economic growth has slowed ever since the Left Bloc took power and I'm not surprised if it came out that it was because we cut off South American relations.

Claims that the DEU were responsible for the Second Fantastic War, or is a militant foreign policy actor, are completely unfounded, with the DEU Assembly never approving any military actions related to the conflict. In fact, it is the DEU Assembly which has in the last week proposed the deployment of 12,000 ESF personnel to aid Galicia's reconstruction. The actions of the Union must be distinguished from that of its member-states - for how can the DEU be accused of militant foreign policy while the DEU's own Maritime Defense and Surveillance Force did not participate in the Battle of the Euro Sea? The DEU is an organisation that seeks to rebuild Galcia and support its recovery. It is also apparent that South America does not offer a market large enough to supplant the European Internal Market, given the EIM's size of at least 623 million across the Union.

Costs of Membership

The cost of DEU membership is not one imposed upon the people of Portugal. Rather, DEU revenue is obtained through a variety of sources. This includes the ESB strategic investment fund, common external tariff, fines imposed upon rule-breaking non-state actors, and various foreign user-pays arrangements through the DEU EIM Trade Regulatory Office.

Conclusion

The Continental Standard concludes that Portugal has extensively benefited from membership of the Democratic European Union, particularly through the European Internal Market. The Union supports Portuguese businesses, households and its government across multiple policy spheres, and seeks to support the Portuguese environment, society, security and human welfare. We are concerned that these facts will be forgotten, as the world's media focuses upon the case of Gama v Pahor in an effort to build up a battle of personalities - rather than of policy.

Either way, we are hopeful that both Tulsi Gama and Borut Pahor will attend the next meeting of the European Senate - at which all elected representatives of Europe are entitled to speak, regardless of whether they be in government or opposition within their own member state.

OOC: This is a reposting of Puertollano's response to the original voided Russian disease with minor alterations.

Castillo mobilizes militias in response to virus

As of today, President Castillo authorized the mobilization of the People's Militias in order to combat the SARS-H11 virus. From now on, the People's Militia will be responsible for policing mandatory quarantines for a two-week period for all individuals at airports, transporting necessary supplies to urban and rural health facilities and testing individuals body temperature at random in public places. This military presence has extended to Miraflores Palace, where the Presidential Guard will be vetting all entrants. To help impoverished families and communities, regular CLAP shipments have been extended to also include medical face masks and hand-sanitizers. Additionally, rationing has been implemented for essential goods, in order to keep prices affordable to low-income families.

Testing is also set to begin. For now, samples collected from Puertollano and the FNI will be sent to the FSR to be examined. Reports have also shown that several cooperative-owned factories have begun producing nasopharyngeal swabs and reagents.

President Castillo also appeared as a role-model on national television this evening, when he demonstrated how to properly wear a face mask and apply hand-sanitizer. Castillo said that he was confident on the ability on the Bolivarian People to weather the storm.

Joao Barcelos elected 23rd President of the Portuguese Republic

27 August — João Andre Barcelos, the passionate, renowned statesman, was elected President of Portugal Friday, promising a break with the past, a new style of leadership, and a renewal of relations with the South America and the rest of Europe.

Barcelos’ triumph over Tulsi Gama and Amy Linhares, the two leftist candidates, was a huge blow to their parties and dashed their dreams of becoming the country’s next female president.

With the entire vote counted, Conservadores candidate Joao Barcelos had 55.86%, while Left Bloc candidate Amy Linhares had 22.95% and Alternative for Portugal candidate Tulsi Gama at 21.18%.

A LusoPolls poll showed that the youngest voters supported Gama, artisans, shopkeepers and rural voters preferred Barcelos, and city dwellers were for Linhares. Joao Barcelos’ strongest support came from voters 60 years and older.

His victory set off scattered anti-Barcelos violence in Lisboa and some other cities, but for the most part Portugal stayed calm. Turnout was high. 61.5% of registered voters cast ballots, about 11.8% higher than the last presidential election.

In an emotional acceptance speech to thousands of cheering supporters in a rented concert hall in Lisboa, Barcelos renewed his campaign pledge to break what he called the old, outmoded habits of Portugal.

He vowed to
break with the ideas, the habits and the behavior of the past
and to
rehabilitate work, authority, morality, respect and merit.

The President-Elect pledged to remake Portugal by, among other things, slashing unemployment, cutting taxes, making people work harder and longer, shrinking the government bureaucracy, reforming pension rules and making it easier to create new businesses.

Having largely stayed silent on the divide between South America and Europe during the campaign, Barcelos sought in his acceptance speech to strike a balanced approach to both powers. Addressing Portugal’s “European friends” he said,
I want to tell them that Portugal will always be by their side when they need her, but that relationship is also accepting the fact that friends can think differently.

He also struck a conciliatory note, reaching out to the swath of Portuguese people who seem to question him, especially in the country’s ethnically and racially mixed suburbs, where he is accused of fueling tensions because of the political backing he received from CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats.
To all those Portuguesewho did not vote for me, I want to say, beyond political battles, beyond differences of opinion, for me there is only one Portugal,
Barcelos said.
I want you to know that I will be president of all Portuguese.

Joao Barcelos will officially take office ten days from now, a few hours before Speaker Naomi Pereyra’s caretaker duty ends. Barcelos will serve out the remaining two and a half years of resigned President Oluwakemi Taliscas term. He will be eligible for the 2029 Presidential Election.

Tulsi Gama, Amy Linhares concede to Joao Barcelos

Tulsi Gama was first to concede to Joao Barcelos, acknowledging the sadness and pain of her supporters, whom she thanked for their efforts at her campaign headquarters.
The voters have spoken,
the Alternative for Portugal leader said.
I hope that Joao Barcelos will fulfill his mission in the service of all Portuguese people.

In her concession, she also noted that she would continue her political and military service.
The best way that I can be of service at this time is to offer myself to the President-Elect in any way I can, and to continue to work for the health and well-being of the people of our country in the National Assembly, and to stand ready to serve in uniform should the Republican National Guard be activated.

Joao Barcelos’ election was a triumph of raw ambition, efficiency and political poker. Throughout the campaign, the Conservadores candidate portrayed himself as an outsider, a statesman in touch with the silent majority. However, is also the quintessential political insider, a longtime figure in right wing politics and a former Prime Minister. Barcelos ran an extraordinarily disciplined campaign.

Meanwhile, Amy Linhares, the Interior Secretary and Left Bloc candidate, found herself in the odd position of being the candidate of a flailing government in power that has suffered a string of political and electoral losses. Her campaign was fraught with mixed messages, defections and shifting strategies. She never seemed to convince voters that she had enough substance.

Barcelos received 63% of the vote of CHEGA! supporters. In the most surprising development, 52% of female voters cast their ballots for Barcelos, compared with 48% for Linhares and Gama totaled.

Barcelos captured the vote of people 60 years and older; Gama fared well with very young voters — the 18 to 24 year old age group, where she won 58% of the vote. But Barcelos gained the upper hand in the next age group, those 25 to 34, where he received 57% of the vote. Artisans and shopkeepers also chose Joao Barcelos with 82% of the vote. Farmers, who traditionally vote on the right, gave him 67%. Amy Linhares did better among blue-collar workers, with 54%.

Panama Canal extension complete

An extension to the Panama Canal that almost tripled the width of the canal and doubled the depth of the canal has concluded. The state-owned Panama Port Authority announced yesterday that the project had been completed, unveiling the new lanes to the press and with the presence of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez of the Bolivarian Republic for the grand opening. This will see a dramatic increase in trade and travel through the Panama Canal, which is expected to earn back all of the investment money spent on the expansion in fees. There were movements for an expansion of the Panama Canal more recently, as modern cargo ships and freighters become larger and heavier, required increased capacity in important trade lanes such as the Panama Canal. Ms Delcy Rodríguez called this a victory for the Bolivarian Republic and a feat of Puertollano's construction prowess. President Castillo was notably absent from the opening.

Daily Digest - Quarantine Frustrations

Across the Federation, tens of millions of people are now under quarantine as the number of SARS-H11 cases continue to rise exponentially. The uniquely awful experience the FSR has faced stands in stark contrast with the rest of the world, who haven't reported any cases as of yet. Such tensions are boiling up on the internet, where a sudden surge of anti-Fujimori and anti-Zackarothian posts have appeared. Many of the posters claim that the Fujimori administration has completely botched their handling of the SARS-H11 outbreak. They claim previous administrations have handled the former Zackarothian Flu outbreak much better, without the need for shutting down the country. And that Fujimori administration has done nothing to punish the Zackarothians for their "ongoing biological warfare."

For the most part, these complaints were mostly lodged solely online. But today some seventeen protesters took to the Plaza de Armas of Sao Paulo. They carried signs, demanding that a more competent administration takes over, and end to the quarantine, and that the FSR takes revenge on Zackaroth. While normally such protests would have been tolerated, the blatant breech of quarantine regulations was noticed by the police - who had them arrested.

Unfortunately for the protesters, the public has largely condemned their actions as reckless and selfish.

Joint rescue effort from Italian and San Martinian authorities after ferry capsizes off Cape Thetis

Image
This evening an emergency SOS signal was received by the Guardia Costiera in Cape Thetis, coming from a Navimag ferry en route to Puerto Montt from Cape Thetis. The San Martinian ferry operator reported that its ferry that serves the route had lost power and has drifted into rocks off the coast of Cape Thetis during a storm and has capsized just off the coast. The Guardia Costiera and Vigili del Fuoco were mobilised for a full offshore rescue mission, and requested assistance from the San Martinian Coast Guard in the effort to rescue passengers and crew trapped inside the capsized ferry.

Vessels from both the Guardia Costiera and the San Martinian Coast Guard as well as helicopters and a rescue ship from the Vigili del Fuoco arrived promptly at the scene to find that lifeboats were unable to be released from the ferry due to the extent of the tilt caused by the capsizing. Several emergency rescue floats had been deployed but were found to be stuck on the side of the listing ferry, unable to slide into the water.

In response to the hectic situation rescuers from the Vigili del Fuoco were airlifted onto the ship to aid passengers in their descent down the side of the ferry onto ships from the Guardia Costiera and San Martinian Coast Guard which were awaiting their arrival. Simultaneously dive crews from the Guardia Costiera were dispatched to enter the inside of the capsized ferry in order to search for trapped passengers or crew who may be stuck in air pockets underwater or are lost within the sections of the ship still above water.

Officials say that casualties are almost a certainty at this point but do have any concrete figures as to how many lives may have been lost. The government of Cape Thetis has already stated its intentions to launch an inquiry into the incident, investigating the engine malfunction, why the anchors were not deployed to prevent drifting and why the incident was not reported until just 5 minutes before the ferry struck rocks and not immediately after power was lost.

Stockholm, State of Kalmar, Nordic Federation
Image
Protests across the city entered their seventh day today, as the people of the Nordic Federation continue to demand answers for the scandal rocking the entire government. The parliament has finally passed an official vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Gerhard Batra, with near unanimity, only four members of the Democratic-Socialist party voted against the motion, while a further fifteen abstained entirely from voting. This is the first time in the history of the Federation that such a motion of no-confidence has even been proposed, much less passed. The Constitution does not specify any time frame for the election of a new Prime Minister, and with debates raging between members of every party in government, and rogue state legislatures strongly condemning the government, the path towards stable governance seems unclear for the moment.

Foreign Minister Carinne Pederson, after holding the office for nearly 8 years, has announced her resignation, following the example of Parliament Majority Leader Aala Mikaelsson. Though neither of them were implicated in the scandal, party insiders state that they feel betrayed by the actions of the Prime Minister which they had faithfully supported. Only Pederson has spoken out, giving her reasoning for her resignation on Stockholm's Channel 9:
I cannot stand the idea that I could have, even by accident, been complicit in these egregious constitutional violations. When I was appointed as the Federation's first female foreign secretary, I made a vow to all of my former constituents and fellow members of government that I would serve the people, and, really, never do anything that would be against their interests. It seems impossible in this political climate to keep that promise. When the man you've trusted to run your nation, that you're so proud of, ethically, and in the best interests of all citizens betrays everyone's trust like he did... there's just not much you can believe in anymore. I think this very well might be the end of my political career, I simply cannot support a government who has so readily and widely covered up this kind of corruption.

Gerhard Batra has yet to make any public statement about the crisis that his actions have caused, and many of the protestors outside of the Parliament Hall and Royal Palace are calling for his immediate indictment and imprisonment, facing charges as high as treason against the Federation. However, King Oscar I made a conciliatory statement to protestors earlier this week, evidently trying to calm the spirits of the nation in this time of uncertainty:
Rest assured that the monarchy will lend all of the support possible to the Parliament as they investigate these allegations and bring justice to corrupt government officials.

The protestors were not impressed by this statement, however, and booed loudly at the mention of 'allegations' and the refusal of the monarch to directly condemn Gerhard Batra as the perpetrator of these corrupt acts.

Stavanger, State of Kalmar, Nordic Federation

Following his arrest just one day after news of the scandal broke, Freyj Poulsen met bail today and was released from Stavanger Prison to return to his private, 13,000 square foot home located on a fjord just North of the city. Protestors surrounded his Maybach as it left the prison, with one group even throwing red paint onto the car, and chants of "death to the Sarekis" rang out across the prison's campus. The term "Sareki" has quickly become the word of choice for the corrupt officials who are involved in the scandal surrounding the Sarek Initiative.

Further investigative reports from the Helsinki Enquirer and the investigative branch of our own newspaper, the Stockholm Gazette Investigates, have revealed that the potential fallout of this scandal could be much larger than anticipated. It has come to light that beyond members of the Riksdag and foreign officials, many ministers in the executive cabinet could be implicated as well. Assuming that the corrupt officials are removed from office, this will doubtlessly require snap elections to fill all of the positions left vacant. This begs the question: will the entire establishment stand down, or continue to downplay this situation as they have been?

Chief Admiral Ramussen of the Atlantic Fleet Returns to Stockholm against orders, meets with Finnish Governor-General Karppinen
The Ministry of the Navy today issued a public memorandum, noting that the Nimitz-class Supercarrier H.M.S. Gustav, which arrived in the harbor of Stockholm around 04:00 last night, was not operating under official orders, but was being directly captained by Cheif Admiral Alfhild Ramussen.

This morning around 09:00, Admiral Ramussen disembarked the ship and walked directly into crowds of protestors surrounding the Parliament Hall, appearing to shake hands and greet many in the crowd. He was encouraged by the chanting of the group to stand up and make a speech, saying
I know that my position within the armed forces generally prevents me from making direct political statements, but I believe that something has fundamentally changed within our democracy in the past week. The inaction of Parliament continues to frustrate me as much as it does all of you. I am appalled by the criminality of Gerhard, whom I though I knew personally. I want all of you to know that the armed forces continue to stand in defense of you, the people. After contacting many of my colleagues in the Ministries of the Navy and Army, I can assure you that we will no longer be taking orders from the corrupt Prime Minister.

The Admiral's speech was met with cheers from the crowd, and almost immediately after he made it, social media was ablaze with talk of him being elected as the next Prime Minister, however, one senior member of the Social-Democrat Party made the reply that "the party will not entertain the induction of a member of the armed forces to the Prime Ministry without his prior participation in a public election."

Later in the afternoon, the Admiral was seen at the private residence of Finland's Governor-General Eljas Karppinen. He has been known throughout his tenure for being strongly critical of the policies of the Social-Democrats, but has refrained from echoing his party's calls for Finnish independence, saying he supports the union for its economic benefits to Finland. Most recently, he received media attention for allowing the floor votes of two motions to withdraw from the Federation in the Finnish Parliament, the Enduskunta.

The meeting of these two influential people has lead to speculation that they may be planning some sort of entrance to the national government, possibly running in the snap elections which seem likely to be held later this year. However, that would require definitive action from the Riksdag, of which both have been highly critical in the past.

The situation unfolding in Stockholm seems to become increasingly unstable by the minute, and the speech by the Admiral seems to suggest that the military would not intervene to protect the government should protests become more violent in the coming days.

Protests Successful, San Martinia to Lead International Environmental Organization

Image
12/8/2026 - 16:01 Clarin.com | Politics |

With the national protests having finally been completed, the legislature has overwhelmingly approved Senator Martínez's proposal, which will see the creation of an international environmental regulative organization. The organization would not be in conflict with the CSN, and membership would not be exclusive. It would simply be more focused on environmental legislation. The success of the proposal in the National Congress is not due to its widespread support, but rather because of a comprehensive representative-contacting scheme organized by the protesters to encourage their representatives to support the bill.

It's estimated that near 500,000 protesters voiced their opinions today across the nation. The largest protests were in the capital, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, and Temuco, all large cities. In the capital, protesters, led by youth climate activist Sofia Alberti and former CSN representative Nicolás Montenegro, marched to the Congressional Palace to meet Senator Martínez and other supporters. Protests went largely peacefully, with few arrests despite police on standby. However, situations in Temuco went entirely differently, with police clashing violently with protesters as they gathered in the Plaza de Armas. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets to break apart crowds that they said were violent and throwing projectiles, resulting in dozens of arrests and hospitalizations and the death of Nahual Muñoz, a student at the local National University of the Frontier.

President Sánchez called the protesters' actions "inspiring" and said he would sign the bill into law. In doing so, he also encouraged other nations with a high priority of environmental protection to consider membership. Climate activists labelled the bill as "a win for the Earth" and were surprised that their efforts had culminated thus far due to one twitter rant from Sofia Alberti, a member of the Youths for the Climate group.

Conservadores, CHEGA!, Hyper Democrats unveil 'grand coalition'

Joao Barcelos will not have to worry about cohabitation with Hildred Cardoso's Left Bloc minority government when he is inaugurated President. Portugal's major right-wing parties announced their formal coalition tonight, bringing to fruition the long speculated parliamentary alliance between Os Conservadores, CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats.

Since July, evolving secretive discussions between the three parties' have reported. Hyper Democratic leader Calahan Chaves was first to point out the idea on the snap election campaign trail. Since then, the supposed parliamentary alliance was converted into an electoral alliance that saw CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats endorse and stump for Joao Barcelos' Conservadores presidential campaign.

It appears that the final step to realizing the rumored parliamentary alliance was the no-confidence vote that defeated Hildred Cardoso's Left Bloc minority government. Incoming-Prime Minister Danilo Castelo and President-Elect Joao Barcelos are reportedly to credit for the political craftsmanship and maneuvering, according to senior circles within the three parties.
I'm convinced that this coalition will creates a genuine opportunity for Portugal.
said political power-broker Danilo Castelo who appeared alongside Hyper Democratic Leader Calahan Chaves and former Prime Minister Nikita 'Téa' Lacerda, a senior CHEGA! official at the coalition announcement.

A cabinet of Coservadores, CHEGA! and Hyper Democratic ministers was agreed on. Cabinet will be dominated by Conservadores picks with the exception of three portfolios. A Hyper Democrat will be Secretary of State for Culture, Society and Sports while CHEGA! will fill the positions of Secretary of State for National Defense and Secretary of State for Justice and the Interior.

Hyper Democrat Leader Calahan Chaves will become Secretary of State for Culture, Society and Sports, while Palveiro-era former Prime Minister Nikita Lacerda will take the Secretary of State for Justice and the Interior portfolio. Palveiro-era Defense Secretary and retired General Jairo Montalvo will also return to his post as Secretary of State for National Defense.

The "grand coalition" of Portugal's center-right and far-right will be the first of its kind. The newly unveiled grand coalition doubles as Barcelos' campaign promises kept as well. Merging smaller departments into key ones, the new Cabinet has been reduced to just 8 Ministries down from 14. The three parties' agreed on policy platform includes lowering taxes, as well as agreeing to slightly loosening Portugal's job market. The two sides still have to decide on spending cuts to tackle the country's budget deficit. The joint platform also committed to a gradual raising of the retirement age to 67 from 65.

Incoming-Prime Minister Danilo Castelo's government will take office one day ahead of Joao Barcelos' inauguration as president. Hildred Cardoso, the outgoing Left Bloc Prime Minister, has said she will return to the backbenches when the new coalition takes over.

Cardoso government falls after no-confidence vote

Left Bloc Prime Minister Hildred Cardoso’s government was voted down by the National Assembly Monday, in a motion called on by Conservadores almost immediately after Joao Barcelos was elected President in the first round vote. Cardoso's government lost confidence by 122 votes.

Cardoso, in addressing MPs after her stunning defeat, made clear that she respected the lawfulness of such a motion.
Despite my dislike for it, the vote was ultimately to confirm whether the government still enjoyed the confidence of the Assembly,
the prime minister said.

MPs debated the issue and then vote on whether they had confidence in May’s government or not around 7 p.m. The no-confidence vote was initiated by Conservadores, and backed by CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats. Cardoso's minority government stood no chance with it's whip of 103 MPs. Even if it had made a hail mary deal with Alternative for Portugal, the count would have totaled to only 115, short of the simple majority.

The defeat of Cardoso's government kicked off the time period for the National Assembly to figure out what to do next, and try to form a new government. Os Conservadores, CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats later that night unveiled their formal coalition, which has been long speculated for a while now. With 120 MPs combined, the incoming combined center-right and far-right government will have a working majority.

The government losing a confidence vote, was similar to that of an election in which no one party wins a majority. It meant that the existing prime minister should only resign if it's clear someone else can command the support of the National Assembly or if an alternative government is ready to take over. Hildred Cardoso announced her government's dissolution when Os Conservadores, CHEGA! and Hyper Democrats unveiled their 'grand coalition' and formal agreement.

Hildred Cardoso's government was defeated by 122 MPs against to 110 for.

Full results of the no-confidence vote
  • Conservadores: 80
  • CHEGA!: 21
  • Hyper Democrats: 19
  • Alternative for Portugal: 2
IN FAVOR: 122
  • Left Bloc: 103
  • Alternative for Portugal: 10
IN FAVOR: 110

Lionsguard Reorganized into Counter-Terror Force

Image
Following the military's stand down from drills and return to standard operations, many have begun to question what will be the role of this force in the coming years. It appears that we may have a partial answer to that question as the Lionsguard is planned to be deployed as an anti-terror and rebel suppression force in the near future. This information has come to light amid the military's 2027 budget reform stating that the Lionsguard will "...be deployed as an active response force to prevent acts of terror, stabilize areas of unrest, and prevent violence from spilling across borders...". The 3,000 strong force is expected to be given access to its own fleet of aircraft and vehicles as well as more extensive facilities for communications and logistics. There was also an addition in the report for something referred to as "Constant Operations" though it is not clear what this is referring to. Lionsguard Headquarters in Muzani has not made any statements about the phrasing nor has any other members of the military. Many fear that this means that the EAC will be taking an active role in rebel suppression across Africa while other claim it will be used to clamp down on personal liberties inside the country. This announcement from a military that was supposed to be scaling down operations has caused many within the Commonwealth to be concerned for their futures.

Afrika First Movement Sees Decline

Image
Three years after seeing a boom in popularity and a rise in government, there has been a noticeable drop in support for the nationalist Afrika First Party. While many within the party have dismissed this claim, national polls have shown a continued decrease in local support for the organization over the last six months. Political theorist are suggesting that the actions from the Amity Fleet and the Nuru Administration abroad have improved the nation's view of many nations, particularly France. Further, the amount of investment and support from nations like Australia, Canada, and San Martinia has steadily increased over the past few years and many citizens of the Commonwealth recognize the fact that their jobs would not be present without the international community. Cities especially have seen a decrease in Afrika First support as international trade continues to pour into the region thanks to a healthy import-export system. Further, their exposure to many foreigners has causes many citizens within major trade cities to develop relations with citizens from around the world. Rural and inland regions still have moderate support for the party and due to that the Afrika First Party appears to be consolidating itself in Zambia for the Rais Forum in 2027. The changing of opinions has not gone unnoticed and other parties, such as the HDAP and PPCS, have begun moving in to try and sway former Afrika First members to join their ranks. With reports of both the Lion and Eagle parties losing support it appears that the 2028 elections for both the Rais and the Legislature will be a close call should the United Africa party suffer a setback or nominate a candidate that fails to meet expectations.

E-Tech Announces Completion of Robotics Laboratory

Image
After three years of construction, E-Tech's state of the art Robotics Laboratory in Lilongwe is now completed. The eight acre site is officially classified as the Lilongwe Robotics institute (LRI) but falls under E-Tech's umbrella. Th facility supports multiple labs, a large demonstration center, several fabrication facilities, and a large hanger bay and small concrete pad for what is assumed to be for UAVs. LRI itself is split into three different robotics departments being Advanced Systems, Synthetic Development, and Industrial Design each with a different mission. Advanced Systems is responsible for developing smarter software and delve into the possibilities of learning machines with the ultimate goal of tapping into true AI. While their work is less physical building the machines and more creating the brains fort he tech, they do have several programs that utilize physical hardware. Synthetic Development is in charge of creating machines that impact healthcare such as prosthetic limbs and humanoid aid workers similar to those in Japan. It is the hope of the department that they can utilize synthetic fibers to recreate precise muscle movements and phase out bulky piston and wire systems. Lastly, Industrial Design is working on improving industrial robots such as those found in car plants. They are also developing a large scale 3D printer and a exo-suit to help factory workers and shipbuilder develop assisted lifting technologies like those found in Korea. While it will be years before we see any of the robots and software from LRI in public, many within the EAC are hopeful about the nation's future in the robotics field due to the efforts of E-Tech.

Massacre in Vasastan
Around noon yesterday, a violent clash occurred between protestors in the Vasastan neighborhood of central Stockholm and riot police. According to the Commissioner of Police for the Stockholm area, instructions were given to all units in the neighborhood to tighten the police cordon and physically separate the neighborhood form the many other protests happening across the city due to concerns about fires erupting in the neighborhood and the looting of many local stores. However, he emphasized that specific orders were given not to use lethal force.

Eyewitness reports say that incendiaries were thrown by certain protestors at police lines, and not long afterward, the police had fired on the crowd. An estimated 33 people have died, and a further 10 are in critical care. Only one police officer was wounded in the incident, and he is now recovering in the hospital, in stable condition.

Karpinnen Declares Finnish "insubordination"
Eljas Karpinnen only took three hours after the massacre to put a bill before the Enduskunta to formally rebuke the government in Stockholm for "endorsing and promoting conditions of violence which led to the murder of innocent civilians." He has stated that the state of Finland will no longer take orders from Stockholm, but stopped short of calling the country independent. His official title is now President Pro-Tempore of the State of Finland. He made the following statement regarding his decision:
I cannot find words to express my disgust with the Stockholm police and the Riksdag. This afternoon, when I first received news of the heartless massacre of protestors, I could not believe it. The Finnish people will never support a government which endorses the open murder of its civilians, much less obey orders from them. After the Enduskunta's vote today, Finland is declaring itself free from all mandates provided by Stockholm and the national government. When given the option between obeying tyranny and governing themselves, any true Finn will choose the latter.

He ceremonially tore up a copy of the Nordic Kontrakt after his speech, the document which provided for Finland's entrance into the Federation.

Chaos spreads across the nation in the aftermath of the Vasastan Massacre
After a eerie few hours of silence overnight, protests this morning resumed in force. Previously confined to Stockholm, Oslo, and a few other major cities in the State of Kalmar, they are near ubiquitous in every populated area today. Preliminary polling shows the percentage of people who support the current government has dipped below 12%, the lowest in the Federation's history by a colossal margin.

In a violent expression of disapproval, a mob of protestors in the Norwegian city of Stavanger set fire to the headquarters of Statoil. Luckily, nobody was present in the building as the company has shut down all operations in the midst of this national crisis. However, despite several calls to the local fire department, they refused to even send a truck to put out the blaze. The building, one of the most prominent in Stavanger's skyline, is now reduced to smoldering ashes.

Though the situation on the ground is hard to gauge, anecdotal reports from central Stockholm seem to be indicating that the doors of the Parliament Hall have been breeched by protestors. Members of the Riksdag have been trapped inside the building since the massacre occurred yesterday, a firm siege by angry citizens keeping the few members who happened to be inside from leaving. However, shockingly, yesterday evening as "President Pro Tempore" Karpinnen announced the insubordination of Finland, the protestors parted in order to let three Finnish members leave the hall, and return to Helsinki.

In what some are calling an attempt to save face, 52 members of the Democratic-Socialist party publicly announced their resignation, while a further 30 announced that they were defecting to the Conservative party. Only one member of the Riksdag who was implicated in the Sarek scandal remains in his parliamentary seat. This leaves the current parliament with only 360 sitting members out of 500. Many are expecting the Svensk Parti and the Conservatives to announce a joint government as the Democratic Socialists lose their majority, but confusion remains over how they will effectively govern the country in the absence of a venue to actually gather and vote. Even so, speculation on social media is raging over the inquests into the massacre and the Sarek scandal which will have to take place if the Riksdag wishes to regain public support.

However, there is some respite for the protestors, as a court in Stockholm today issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Gerhard Batra. The man at the center of all this was seen dragged in handcuffs from his private home outside the city limits, clearly in tears. He has not yet made any statement on either the massacre or the Sarek scandal.

Admiral Ramussen speaks out regarding massacre
Once again joining protestors in the center of Stockholm, who cheered their support for him, the admiral made another public statement today:
Today, we must mourn the loss of our Nordic brothers and sisters. For the first time in our great nation's history, the government is openly letting her citizens be gunned down in the streets! Such horrors must never be tolerated. Such events will never be forgotten. Today, we let the corrupt Riksdag know that, forever more, the massacre in Vasastan will be burned into the fabric of our society, the deepest of the scars which Gerhard Batra has left upon the very flesh of our nation. Tomorrow, I promise you, that I will meet with King Oscar. No longer is there time to allow the current government to rectify their sins. Nay, they have squandered their chance for restitution. But rest assured that I will demand what is right for our country. A complete reorganization of government will occur, or so help me, I will lead you into the royal palace myself.

His shocking change in tone has lead many to speculate that Ramussen will be the next Prime Minister, whether the Riksdag wishes for it or not. Whether he actually meets with the monarch remains to be seen, but we here at the Stockholm Gazette mourn for the victims of the Vasastan massacre, and will keep you updated as the chaos continues to evolve.

Sovereign Union Defense Forces Begins Modernization Program

1 September 2026

JEVENA - Bluquse's Minister of Defence Ron Marka recently announced the government's approval for the Sovereign Union Defense Forces (SUDF) 12.5 billion dollar spending budget for use in purchasing foreign weapons and defense systems to modernize Bluquse's defense capabilities. Having taken nine months to process, the defense department had cooperated with both the economic commission and sovereign assembly to come up with a spending budget that wouldn't cost too much for the country while still allowing enough diverse purchasing options.

The biggest portion of the budget will be used by the Sovereign Union Navy (SUN) as agreed upon by all leaders within the defense department. With a small aging surface fleet of two Anzac-class frigates and four Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates, S.U.N. has been looking forward to purchasing around a dozen naval frigates, four attack submarines, and four destroyers. The last of which is still under review for possible usability for the future navy. It's because of the ship's age and increasing costs of repair and maintenance that the government routinely considered the navy to be the most important military branch that needed improvement due to it's importance to the national security and defense of Blusen territorial waters, along with its exclusive economic zone covering more than 15 times the country's total land area.

The first and seemingly only candidate that the navy is looking forward to purchasing is the Ocean-class stealth guided missile frigate from ACHEUS, an Australian national defense, security, and aerospace company. With stealth capabilities and an assortment of multi-purpose weapons, such a ship has been liked by major Blusen naval officers due to them being able to operate either alone or in groups along with how versatile it's able to function. The only issue is the uncertainty about the ship's capability to sail safely through the rough seas of the Southern Ocean, where SUN regularly patrols, and holds naval exercises once every three months to sharpen experience for ship crews. This issue is currently being addressed to both ACHEUS and the Australian navy by the top military attache of the Blusen embassy in Canberra.

If the navy does go forward with the deal, a total of twelve Ocean's will cost around 8 billion and 22 million dollars. The navy is also looking into the possibility of slightly lowering the price down if the company were to allow Blusen weapon companies to replace a small portion of the onboard systems already included with their ships, such as communication and defense systems. 'Taiaha', a surface-to-air missile system, designed to defend against any type of airborne threat besides ballistic missiles within a maximum operational range of 100 km has been purposed as one such system to be added onto the navy's future frigates depending on the ships capability to house it.

Despite the Ocean-class being a clear number one candidate, the navy has been looking forward to other possible candidates that the navy would find interesting enough to fulfill its requirements such as submarine, frigate, and destroyer classes from the nations of Canada, France, Italy and Pacifica. However, naval experts say SUN is likely to stick toward the Ocean class as it's major frigate while submarine and destroyer class ships would likely be bought from other foreign nations besides Australia unless the department of defense otherwise changes plans to focus entirely on Australian naval vessels.

As for the rest of the remaining 4.5 billion budget, both army and aerospace force branches are currently in the process of choosing candidates as addressed by both chiefs of the branches. For the Sovereign Union Army (SUA), it's looking forward to studying the Centauro II and it's reconfigured version, the Freccia IFV as a potential candidate to replace some of the army's older vehicles. The Sovereign Union Aerospace Force (SUAF), on the other hand, is looking toward replacing a majority of its old jet fighters such as its F-4 phantom II's and older versions of the F-16. A candidate hasn't yet been chosen by officials within the branch but had already messaged military attaches and observers in countries around the world to start the process of searching such candidates.
