“It is difficult for me to imagine what “personal liberty” is enjoyed by an unemployed hungry person. True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and oppression of one person by another; where there is not unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Years ago the wise Roman poet Publilius Syrus gave us this advice: that 'where there is unity, there is always victory.' Two thousand years later we, as an Empire of Austro-Danubian peoples live by these standards. We've stood united, for other approach would have seen our demise. We've pushed for so much, won many victories through great accomplishments, but we, as we should, dream for more. Through unity we've laid the foundations for our League, through unity we've united our peoples with our ancient homeland, and through unity we've sought justice for all who oppose this Empire's divine fortitude. Everything being said, we, as we should, dream and push for more. We are united in our strive for progress for our diverse Empire.
It was with this in mind that we look beyond our horizons. It was with this in mind that Vienna, Athens, and Roma formed this great Triumvirate. To serve under a single cause, a united front, an undivided peoples. It is true, that we as a Roman peoples, whether it be Austrian, Serbian, Macedonian, Greco-Latin, Slovenian, or Italian, are brothers. We stand as brothers as there is no other way for the Romans to be but united. As I speak today, the Roman Senate forms in the city of seven hills. As I speak today, the Mediterranean Commerce Guild works tirelessly to further unite our peoples. Yet as I speak today, there is still much more to be done, and much more to accomplish.
As for we, as an Austrian people, as a Roman people, and as a European people, we must constantly look to expand our horizons. To accomplish the goals we wish to fulfill, we must work with our European kin under the flag of the European Union -- more than we ever have in the past. We must not only work with our brethren, but our entire family and then some. In the days to come our Empire will strive to work closely with the ideals of Europeanism, for where there is unity, there is always victory and accomplishment.
Think of what Europe has accomplished thus far. Think of what is still left to accomplish. Think of your children, and the life they could live in this New Europa. The Europa of progress, the Europa of unity, the Europa of victory and accomplishment.
I am looking forward to working with Europe as a whole in the name of unity, and I hope my people are as well. Thank you.

By Europe, for Europe!
Introducing the Continental Standard - a European news platform accessible advertisement-free online at no cost or across the DEU EIM via subscription. Available in all of the main languages of the DEU member-states, we at the Continental Standard hope to cover the main topics of discussion regarding European political, economic, and military affairs in a way that is easily accessible by all readers. Based in Strasbourg, the heart of Europeanism, we will feature special interviews with key individuals, interest groups, and policy makers to give an accurate understanding of the DEU and the member-states. A paper by Europe, for Europe.
We hope that you enjoy our first issue.
Common External Border for Europe
The DEU Assembly has voted in favor of a Sixth French Republic proposal surrounding the formation of a Common External Border Policy. The people of Europe may now be asking; "What does this mean in relation to the EIM? Can I still travel across the continent on holiday or for business without being delayed at the borders of signatories? Can I still access free public healthcare within the CHA zone?"
They need not be concerned - the answer to all of these questions is yes.
The DEU's European Internal Market allows for the free movement of goods, services, people, and capital across the boundaries of member-states. However, in order to prevent free-riding by non-signatories the DEU Common External Border Policy has been created. As the name implies, it applies only to the external frontiers of the EIM in order to prevent non-members acting as free-riders at the cost of Continental taxpayers and vulnerable sectors of production. Consequently, the CEBP is a positive step which reinforces the prosperity of Europe and defends the gains made under the EIM trading system from external pressures. Prominent Parisian businesses we spoke to have said that they support the move, while public service providers across the continent will likely also see benefits as a result of the new policy. Not without some controversy however, the proposal also increased the number of European Security Force personnel to a maximum level of 30,000. Ambassador Dupont, the author of the proposal, said that this was so that if needed member-states on Europe's periphery could better reinforce their obligations if requested.

An interview with the Soviet Premier
For decades the Soviet Union was the looming shadow over the continent; the strongest military power in the world second only to their rival Super Power across the Atlantic. After the devastating war in the 1980s however, the Socialist juggernaut was forced into a series of wars along their periphery; in Eastern Europe and Central Asia the Second Russian Empire was distracted. Only in 2015 did the nation join the DEU and reemerge fully into European affairs, reforming the USSR the next year. Since then, they have signed the DEU EDC, joined the EIM, and also been perhaps the largest contributor to the DEU's Energy Scheme. They remain a bastion of historical, cultural, political, and social history and progress. Last week, we sat down with Premier Dzeyn Vostik and asked her for her administration's opinion on a variety of European topics.
Interviewer: Do you support efforts to gradually transition the DEU economies from oil reliant states to sustainable sources as part of the organization's energy scheme?
Premier Vostik: "In the a manner of policy, yes. We in the USSR feel that it is important to the overall development of our state and the world that in order to progress we must shed this reliance. We are species that seeks constant progress and this will never happen if we handicapped by finite resource. However, I understand the need for oil in the current political environment and as such it would be suicide to try and take any harsh diversion at this time. We must use revenue from oil to fund greener projects."
Interviewer: Are you concerned by the possible drop in oil export revenue that the USSR would experience in such a scenario?
Premier Vostik: "I am, but not as much as I was two years ago. We in the USSR have been leading a forefront for greener and more sustainable projects. A growing market is being birthed right now with us at the head, I once feared that such drops in oil would cripple the USSR, I now only fear it will cripple a green sector."
Interviewer: What do you think the greatest challenge that the Soviet Union faces in the future is?
Premier Vostik: "Trade was, is, and to the current future will be our greatest challenge. We hold and abundance of resources yet shackled in Black, Baltic, and Eastern Seas we have no way to reliably export them. In the past we used force to overcome them, now I hope to use the spoken word."
Interviewer: Do you think that the DEU should be doing more to assist in the reconstruction and continued security in the Belorussian SSR and occupied Afghanistan? Or do you believe that these activities should be left only to the Soviet Union?
Premier Vostik: "These are challenges that no force except the USSR brought on to itself. We have proven ourselves capable and understanding of addressing the needs and worries of the Belorussian and Afghan people. If at any time we within the USSR fail our duties than it is my hope that the DEU and the CSN come in to help us correct our actions, that time however has not come."
Interviewer: Your country supported the expulsion of the Ottoman Empire from the DEU's Defense Community in recent months after their actions in Persia were uncovered; do you think that the remaining EDC members (not the Ottomans) including the Soviet Union remain committed to their mutual defense despite the recent scandal?
Premier Vostik: "The affair was something the USSR had no prior knowledge and it is cause for alarm. I however will never support another nation being left to slaughter by the simple minded actions of their government. I feel that while the Turkish government failed in its duties and abused its position, the Turkish people should be afforded every ounce of protection now as they did then."
We at the Continental Standard thank Premier Vostik for her valuable time, and for being the first European politician interviewed by us.Issue 2: Published 2nd - 3rd of October, 2018

Interview with PM Hammonds
The Nordic Federation is a dominant power in various economic, military, and cultural sense, but is also a longstanding example of functioning democracy in Europe. Earlier today we had the pleasure of meeting with their Prime Minister, Charles Hammonds.
Interviewer: Along with the USSR, the Nordic Federation is perhaps one of the most significant contributors to the DEU's Energy Scheme. You're also a leader in the Scientific Research Trust; how do you envision the future of European energy policy in the years to come?
Prime Minister Hammonds: "While it may seem contradictory to certain policies being enacted now, the Europe that I imagine is one that runs off of clean fuel and renewable energy. The Nordic Federation and the USSR are both staunch supporters of developing alternative energy sources that will eventually replace fossil fuels, however, that doesn't change the realities of the time that we live in. People in our country, and the military especially, still rely on fossil fuels for their daily activities, and it is also a critical part of the economy. These measures for the European Oil Reserve and the pipelines are simply to ensure that the whole continent is safeguarded against foreign attempts to restrict our energy supply, and they do not mean that we are any less dedicated to finding renewable alternatives to fossil fuels."
Interviewer: Your country was one of the founding members of the original Continental efforts towards establishing the DEU's EIM, beginning with the original CETO; what does it mean to you to know that after just two years the citizens of the Nordic Federation may now trade and travel across all of the DEU member states?
Prime Minister Hammonds: "The leaps forward taken by the EIM overjoy me! This will no doubt be a watershed moment in European integration, which will only be a good thing for nations and economies across the continent. Ever since the original European Coal and Steel Community, this continent has been dedicated to working together in order to prevent conflicts, and build up our economies. Nordic citizens, like those across Europe, will have more work and travel opportunities than ever before, they will be spending money across many countries, stimulating economic growth, which the Nordic Federation is more than ready for."
Interviewer: What do you think the greatest challenge that the Nordic Federation faces in the future is?
Prime Minister Hammonds: "The struggle between passive globalization and interventionism has always been a big struggle for Scandinavian countries and is no less of an issue for the Nordic Federation. I say passive globalization because the Nords have never really had the ability to isolate themselves, in this modern economy it is a necessity for our nations to trade and cooperate. But, there is still the ideological struggle between, "Trade, Profit, and be Neutral", or "Project power across the globe". The upcoming elections will show us which direction the country will head in, but we have definitely seen somewhat of a shift in the parliament to more people who think the Nordic Federation should be a global power, which isn't something I entirely agree with."
Interviewer: In recent years the European Continent has been the scene of armed conflicts; the Great European War in particular being the most devastating, although the Calin Civil War and recent Ottoman Crisis have also been notable examples. What are your thoughts on the prospects of any lasting peace on the Continent being made possible?
Prime Minister Hammonds: "I am a firm believer in the saying that as long as there are humans, there will be war. However, a lasting peace is possible to achieve. We have already seen a marked decline in armed conflicts as the economies of the world have become more intertwined, and Europe is ahead of that curve if anything. I believe that if European integration continues to a reasonable degree, we will see viable peacekeeping measures put into place, and economic safeguards that will generally go against any internal European conflict. It is sad but true that when nations consider going to war, they check their pocketbooks before their people."
The Continental Standard thanks the Prime Minister for making themselves available for our interview.Issue 3: Published 10th - 11th of October, 2018

"France, a land of civilization, and of humanity. France has, of course been our closest ally since the conclusion of the first world war, and certainly our closest since our filthy, Austrian, so called "Brothers", backstabbed us and continue to do so. But today we look forward! We look forward to a Krasendof, that is concerned more with the good of mankind, and not the skulking ways of the Austrians and Romans. The addition of France to the Pact means a great economic, and military impact on the rest of the Signatories, much of europe's combined economy goes through France, the free trade opportunities for signatories will no doubt be great. And France benefits quite greatly as all oil export taxes to France, and all other Signatories will be uplifted, making Krasendof the cheapest place to Import oil from. All in all, this only means good things for all parties involved. I would like to welcome France, and its employees to the Transcontinental Pact."
