As one who for the most part sees themselves as an anti-militarist, they haven't all left, and I'm sure there will be a continued streak of us in this organization no matter the direction.
I (and Ausitoria) probably wouldn't be so anti-militarist in the IFC if the IFC (a) made clear that it wasn't primarily a military alliance but (b) was actually ready to be effectively militarist whenever the time came. I simply don't see why we can't do both; and right now, what with all the arguments around here, their is little evidence that we are doing much military or non-military stuff. At least when you were in charge we did the non-military bit properly.
However, I let the military side slip, which I shouldn't have done, as I wasn't busy managing all aspects of the IFC at the same time. Because of that, yeah, we got some new non-military programmes, but it also meant that the militarists within this alliance weren't too happy with the shoddy state of our "defensive pact" side, which as they have correctly stated was what the IFC started off as. This is where it gets really difficult, and I can relate this to RL experience so well, but sometimes things like this have to be allowed to grow and fluidly evolve after we're gone, otherwise it will die. Part of the reason I fought so hard to make the IFC more than a defensive pact was survival. We had entered a period, where the mutual disgust for OOC conflict and those that use it as a tool to bring down organizations was more of a threat than the ideological war that we had been fighting before. I did have those who didn't agree with the direction we were going, but we managed to safely go and build ourselves a few nice side services in the process. Now the pendulum is swinging back to the military, and I will try not to make this another heated debate, and I get where you're coming from, we have to have some faith that the interest in what we've built will continue. I wouldn't say the IFC is back to the ideological war outlook again, but we are looking around and realizing how hypocritical and useless we must seem to others. We're a defensive alliance that takes no active part in defending others for the sake of freedom. In the past 6 months we have not responded to a single request for assistance from members and non-members alike. When we do deploy, it's a chaotic mess, with no rganization, no one leading the tactical planning, and no hierarchy to convey the information, with security leaks galore. The Aravean Crisis demonstrated this, as I did use a much more isolated core group of individuals through which to plan and convey information because they had active and direct involvement in what was going on. However, we still had a lot of problems organizing and getting everyone on the same page enough to even mount an attempt at liberation, and it was made clear to me after that, that this would at the very least prompt a call for a military reform. I plan to do a bit more, and would, when we get around to voting on the cabinet positions, and committee members, and I'm sure we'll continue to find a way to keep these programs running, Lib!
... Also, remind me to start developing and sending you some of my storefront info and pages, since I don't want to be that guy who pushed an idea and never actually contributed anything himself... I do have Artio International Airport ready to go (needs to be updated), and I need to get working on my shipyards and a few others.
