accepting any and all willing RPers who want to start this up. (regional forums here)
Light pours through the room, flickering in intensity against the splintery wooden walls. The air is cold- the humidity of the late autumn day has gone, and even a moderate breeze sends shivers down spines. A man is sitting at a table, examining a map of the immediate region's coastlines. The map goes from the tipped cape York and the Torres Strait islands at the top to the so-called Bass Straight at the bottom, although the island of Tasmania is not depicted. Mountain ranges and cities are depicted. At the center of the map is the port city of Macquarie- arguably one of the biggest port duchies on the Commonshirish (eastern) coast of Australia, and a center of trade for much of the region. He and his compatriots had left the city with a precious cargo of coal headed for the scavenger markets of Sydney just yesterday, and the city always left him with good memories of colourful markets and warm sunshine.
Welcome, everyone, to Commonshire. Commonshire is (going to be) an RP region that incorporates both a fluid regional canon and creative nationbuilding. I also plan on creating a rag-tag community of people who can speak their minds on an offsite forum however they wish, and maybe even spam in spam-approved threads if they feel bored. Raiders can keep out.
The basic gist of Commonshire is simple- commonshire is set after the collapse of industrial Western Civilisation on the eastern coast states of Australia- Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT. However, the collapse of western civilisation won't demolish the human race or anything- and I'm planning on having the region be divided into city states and different cultural regions. Technology-wise, commonshire will be well behind modern civilisation, but also very much ahead of the historical middle ages. simple firearms will be widespread, artillery will largely be composed of improvised explosives and canons, and electricity will be something tested in privileged areas out of curiosity and not produced commercially. Fire will return as the primary source of light and heating, be it through wood or coal. Seafaring will be done by wooden ships and yachts generally, and the factories of today will be replaced by skilled artisans. Livestock and agriculture, along with artisanship, will become pillars of the economy. Computers'll be fucked, but few and far between things like printing presses could provide easily printable messages. Of course, being set in Australia, Commonshire will have a pretty Australian cultural "flavour", although other influence can certainly play a part in your nation's culture. Commonshire, as distant from IRL as it is, will still employ realism, and there will be no magic or ponies excluding the non-sentient kind.
This OP will evolve as the region is built up. You can join, send a puppet, or whatever. It's easy and encouraged. If desired, my skype is in my sig- add me and I can create a group chat for the region once I have more than one of you.
