Her eyes widened and her heart rate sped up, and memories began flooding back. She remembered the snowy day when she came home from school, when she found her whole family gathered in the living room speaking in hushed voices about something. She remembered wondering what was going on, and how the adults wouldn't tell her anything. And then she remembered hearing the news that her father had been killed by the KLA in the Kosovo War.
Tori saw that her sister was having a flashback, and touched her shoulder. "It's going to be okay," she told her in German, and Anja nodded.
"I, um, need a moment," she managed to say to Emily.
Emily
Out of respect, Emily chose not to ask any questions. "Of course", she replied sympathetically realising something was up and then strolled back over to the window to look out at the view over the the sea and the many islands of skyscrapers that made up Central Yafran.
Tori was sort of embarrassed to be with Anja when she was having a panic attack/flashback, so she followed Emily. "This city is amazing," she said in a thick German accent, staring at the skyscrapers.
Anja leaned against a wall and sat down, trying to remind herself where she was. It's just a flashback, it's not real, she told herself, letting her dreads fall in front of her face. She really hated for others to see her this weak.
