Augusta is the second largest city within the Imperial Provinces of Legatia, provincial capital of the Auranum Province, is designated as the Imperial Provinces of Legatia's International Exchange Student Program host bid for the year 2015.

Standard of the City of Augusta

AUGUSTA

Established: 128 A.D/C.E.
Size: 18,192,141 (2014 Census)
Province: Auranum
Procurator (Mayor): Paulus Agnaeus

Augusta within the Imperial Provinces (Upper Right)

Overview

The city of Augusta was founded in what is regarded as the earlier days of human history by the native nomadic tribes, the Caetrii, hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Archaeological evidence suggests the first presence of human settlement was no later than 360 BC/BCE. The settlement, then known as Aestaci, was a regional hub of trade, a rather feeble town by civilized comparison (it had a population of about 7,000 at it's zenith), yet highly important to the culture of the region. When the advancing Roman colonists and their armies came from the west, the town was vacated, and it's peoples driven northeast. It retained it's status as a regional capital, as the Romans slowly converted the town to match the ones they had set up back West, and the city was dubbed Augusta Minor.

The city, located on the side of a large lake reservoir that was fed from one of the largest rivers in the continent, was in a prime location for trade. It quickly began to rival the cities in the West, despite it's distance. The arts, cuisine, knowledge, and et cetera flourished with it.

Augusta and the first city of Legatia, Coriolanus, competed over centuries for the largest population. Augusta eventually exceeded Coriolanus, and was then passed only a few years later by the city of Vestium. Augusta has since retained its place for second largest metro population for approximately 370 years.

Transportation

Augusta is the northeastern hub of Legatia's enormous road system, which means going from Augusta to virtually any other place within the nation is relatively easy. Augusta is served by three airports: Augusta/Romulus International Airport, where international students will be arriving (nonstop flights), Augusta Imperial (Domestic and layover flights for international students), and Augusta Auxiliaris. Augusta Auxiliaris is primarily used for privately-owned flights, and also offers a skydiving program.

Augusta's metro transit system in the form of buses and subways is matched only by the capital of New Rome. Subway lines run to every district within Augusta, and a few lines run to nearby towns. The main terminal of Augusta's underground metro is Augusta Central Station, which runs all lines in the city.

The underground is quite congested, though, even with trains coming in every minute. Augusta's underground has a 5.31 million daily ridership rate. The worst times to ride the metro are 6-8 a.m. and 4-6 P.M. as these are the rush hours within Augusta. If the metro is too congested, alternate methods include the aboveground tram, the city's rather large taxi service, as well as public buses.

The metro and tram systems cost approximately $4 NSD for a day ticket and $20 NSD for a week ticket. Taxi services are privatized and vary by their carrier. Public buses cost $2 NSD for a ticket.

Language and Culture

As with the rest of Legatia, citizens of Augusta primarily speak Latin in conversation, but are also sufficiently fluent in English. A minority of citizens can speak languages such as German, French and Italian, as well. Certain districts, such as Parum Sinis (Little China), speak Chinese. Other ethnic districts follow the same.

Legatians value respect, dignity, and are generally libertarian when it comes to morals. Although social delinquents such as the homeless and beggars and pitied and occasionally given a Denarius by the occasional passer-by, the lazy and unproductive of society are looked down upon and scolded. It's also not uncommon to hear an angry citizen curse at you if you manage to annoy them.

While same-sex marriage is legal throughout Legatia, some Legatian citizens are conservative and will yell at homosexual couples. This isn't a very common occurrence, however, but if it does happen, do not attempt to provoke said citizen. He's likely armed.

If you want to get in a fight, Legatia is not the place to do it. 92% of the male populace of Legatia has received full military training from the Imperial Armed Forces, and will easily incapacitate you. Fortunately, fights where neither party sustain too much bodily harm will not receive attention of the police (Known as the Lex Exigeretur in Legatia), unless it's unprovoked.

Augustan cuisine features a lot of wheat products. Bread, fish, and dairy products are very popular. Also popular is red meat, chicken, pork, and vegetables such as spinach, tomatoes, olives, potatoes, carrots, et cetera.

Geography

Augusta is located primarily on the western side of the largest river basin in the Imperial Provinces, Lapulus Lacus (Lake Lapuli), though a small section of the city is on the lake's northwestern coast. The northeastern end of Augusta is on an elevated hillside. The rest of the area, and the area for miles around, is a hilly forested area. Deer and game are abundant in these forests, and about fifty miles north lie a small mountain range where elk and even bear can be found.

The most dominant feature in the landscape is the Caena mountain range to the east, and it's peak, Mount Anchises, the fifth highest peak in Legatia, at a height of 8,621 feet. Hunting in the forests near Augusta is legal during certain seasons, and only for those with a registered hunting licence. Exchange students, unless they file with Auranum's Provincial Government beforehand with proof of a hunting licence, will not be allowed to hunt.

Octavius Academy will be the location selected for hosting the International Exchange Student Program's students. Located a few minutes outside of the metro area of Augusta, it is easily accessible via metro lines A and D, and many bus routes will take you there.

Ranked fourteenth among primary education in Legatia, Octavius Academy covers a 850-acre plot, which is walled in by brick walls.

Students will stay on-campus in the Argentum apartment complex, and all amenities, including food, laundry, and utilities will be provided free of charge. Wifi and cable television will also be provided free of charge.

Exchange students will receive a monthly pension equivalent to $500 NSD to be stored on a school-issued credit card. State testing will not apply to exchange students. Instead, the minor, teacher-assigned tests will be used to grade students.

Entertainment, Shopping, and Nightlife

Image
The skyline of Augusta's downtown at night.

As Legatia's second largest city, there is no lack of options for entertainment within it. A primary attraction is the Colosseum Aurum, located in the northwestern end of the city, a building very reminiscent of the colosseum in Rome itself. Hosted there are gladiator fights, much like the days of ancient Rome, but the weapons are blunted and the combatants fight until one is bested, not to death. Also hosted there are various sports tournaments. Games occur every day until 8:00 P.M., and admission is relatively cheap. A few concert halls, such as the Publianus Concert Hall, exist in Augusta, as well. The city is also dotted with hundreds of cinemas, arcades, a few small amusement parks, the like.

Augusta is also one of the largest shopping centers in the world. Though shops of all sorts are everywhere in the city, the best place to shop is the Numus district. Legatia's third largest mall, Lapis Mall, is at the heart of the Numus district, holding hundreds of stores in it's four stories and hundreds of acres.

If you'd prefer something more quiet, you may want to visit the smaller Dionus district. It has a few buildings no higher than six stories, and has many simpler, older shops and small alcove gardens and parks. However, travel to the Dionus district is slow, as it's only served by a single metro line. Alternatively, one could drive or take the bus or a taxi.

The city's main park, Diannus Parcum, is located on the southwestern end of the city. It covers about 750 acres of land, and many consider it Legatia's most beautiful park. Cobblestone paths and stone bridges don't intrude on the natural beauty of the park, winding through it. The boundaries of the park have high stone walls that cancel out the small traffic that is allowed through the area.

Most of the city's clubs and other entertainment options are packed in the Lux district- night clubs, dance clubs, strip clubs (though anyone under 19 is not allowed in a strip club, of course). The district is extremely packed from 8 at night until usually 3 or 4 the next morning, especially on Fridays and the weekends. Transport to the Lux district is relatively easy- it's served by multiple trams, and there are buses dedicated to transport into the district.

Quieter options are also present in the Dionus district, such as Augustus Aelianus Library, the second largest library in Legatia. Smaller restaurants serve a nice meal and drink for a relatively low price with a nice, warm and cozy atmosphere in the district, and many couples have dinner dates in the Dionus district.

Essentials for the student in Augusta (And what not to pack)

  • Clothes. Though a uniform will be supplied, it's not the only thing you'll be wanting to wear. Clothes can be quite expensive in Augusta, so come prepared.
  • Your phone. Do not use your cellular phone in class, or it will be confiscated.
  • Passport and visa. Up to date, obviously.
  • A camera. If you want to go sightseeing, buying a camera in Legatia would not be your best venue.
  • Weapons must be registered and declared beforehand, otherwise they will be confiscated. Students are not authorized to purchase firearms within Legatia unless it has been cleared by the regional government.
  • DO NOT bring any drugs, other than prescription drugs. Any others will be confiscated.
  • DO NOT bring an invalid or outdated passport, you will be deported. If your passport expires, notify us and we will attempt to get a valid one from your country of origin.
  • It is not recommended to bring a laptop or a computer. Laptop computers will be supplied to every student free of charge at the beginning of the school year.

KRJÍSTAENA

Insaeldic Host Bid City for IESP RP

Introduction

Krjístaena is the fourth largest city within the Kingdom, Capital of Vesturlandsvæðin Province, and is designated as the Kingdom of Insaeldor's International Exchange Student Program host bid for the year 2015.

Image
Royal Seal of Krjísteana

Krjístaena

Established: 12 B.C.E
Size: 156,800 (2015 Estimate)
Province: Vesturlandsvæðin
Head Councler (Mayor): Sigmún Odínsoúner

Overview
The first known human presence in what is know Krjístaena were a series of campsights my the early hunter gatherers that inhabited what is today Insaeldor in about 8,000 B.C.E with multiple grave sights which were excavated in 1988 showing signs of signifigently Wesley innovations and complex tools Mostly knives and axes all made volcanic glasses found in the south. Later as the Neolithic era dawned and afraculture started to blossom in the area thanks to its thick nutrient rich soil it became an area of several small settlements.

The first major settlement in the area was Sjirthür which was established in 3250 B.C.E and saw a sprawling agricultural community but was destroyed in 899 B.C.E during the conquest of the Northmen and the city was abandoned afterwards when the Northmen destroyed Thespis by transporting sand from the coast and mixed it into the soil. Around this time however a fortress called Heimaey which housed a few hundred soldiers but over the years and as the influence of the Northmen grew and conflict after conflict of conquest was fought the fortress grew until in 12 B.C.E when the Prince Bishop of Vesternjörtn established the Fortess now a sprawling community of several thousand as a city and his capital naming it Krjrítaena after his first born Krjístæn.

Over the next six hundred years the city was heavily fortified with a massive six foot thick and eight foot high walls. During the fudalist era the city was a major metal working station known for the high quality of the iron from the nearby Stórmauðr Mountains which were then forged into high quality steal weapons and armour. The city was however layed to ruins after the Religious Wars in which the city came under siege by christian forces and eventually fell after two years leading to the slaughter of nearly 6,000 pagan residence. The city was then depopulated and rebuilt afterwards and again became a place for immigration as many internally displaced people could find work in the nearby Iron Mines of the dormant volcano of Gürtáln causing the city to explode in size throughout the 16th and 17th century with the city growing far beyond its original walls which now make up the cities center.

Over the last few decades Krjístaena has become a center of craftsmanship. Many specialty craft companies had their start up in the city ranging from artisan food to hand constructed automobiles and has also become a large tourist destination given its closeness to the capital city and the mountains which are popular for hiking, camping, and white water sports. And in the last one hundred fifty years the city has become a center of intellectualism and education with three large universities and several academies. Currently the city has a healthy economy and a large population but a very small town feel to it as well.

Transportation

Krjístaena has a large, well kept, and well integrated mass transit system comprised of Bus, Taxi, Monorail, and Aircraft. The Taxi system is possible one of the more common modes of transportation but also the fastest shrinking mode of teanspertation as well. A normal cab fare is based on the company that operates it but is usually around к3.50 every kilometer but a popular service called Streetster (basically our Uber) where normal contracted people with public knowledge of the area will drive you at far lower rates compared to you average Taxi usually with it being 43.37% cheaper overall for a passenger.

Krjístaena Central Station

Buses are also a very healthy form of transportation in the city running at regular intervals with stops at all 38 bus stops every 35 minutes. Buses in the city are usually white with two blue stripes on the side and are all Volvo B9R type buses with a total capacity of 55 people. Buses are a free service offered to the citizens and thus does not coast anything to use them but many schools have programs to help clean the buses on a weekly bases to help keep overall coast down and keep the funding directed more towards the actual maintenance of the buses and their stations.

The Monorail System in Krjístaena is also well established with a monorail system with a system that runs across the city with four "rings" which start from the outside of the city and colectivlt go inwards with the last one stoping just shy of the old city. Five other lanes spread out and conect the rings with another one going all the way to the airport providing direct rides from the airport to the city. The monorail trip to amd from the airport is free however all other trips on the monorail coast a consumer about к2.50 per ride. The monorail system in generally consitered the fastest way to get around town if you need to go from one side to the other.

The city also host an International airport which heads out many international and domestic flights. The airport is a very modern facility constructed in 1999 and built beside the now demolished Härlot Airport. It will be where most foreign visitors enter the city and has both Bus, Monorail, and road routes from the airport to the city. the airport handles about one million passengers a year.

Of course however possibly the best way of transportation in the city is walking. You will most likely have to walk near everywhere unless you own another forum of transportation like a bike or skateboard. Almost all roads are paved with sidewalks for walkers and most streets are wider then usually thanks to universal bike lanes throughout the city's road system.

Language and Culture

People in Krjístaena speak Insaeldic a Noth Germanic language heavily related to old Norse and is the mother tongue of almost all native born Insaeldics. But most insaeldics also speak English as a second or third language. Some people also speak Russian fairly competently given the proximity of Insaeldor to several Slavic nations which use the language as a lingua franca.

Culturally The city has elements of the more socially conservative rural areas and the more socially progressive coastline and city life. The city has a large counterculture and musical life in the Värnin District in the north-east of the city where several different musical scenes going on with Heavy Metal, Electronica, Indie Folk, Alternative Hip-Hop and Hardcore sounds permitting through the musical scenes within the city with several clubs catering to versions musical taste.

As far as food goes the city has a unique style of food based heavily on lamb rather then the usually poultry/lamb/beef mix of meats you find nearly everywhere else and this translates more Heavly in the way things are cooked. Harty foods are most common with simple Lamb Patties being a local favorite which you can have made in hundreds of different ways since a lamb pattie is really just a patty of ground lamb meat. This like beer sausage are also common and are made by soaking the sausage in beer before cooking or smoking it or adding beer earlier into the meat mixing. The city has a large beer culture (notice that the legal age to consume alcohol is 16) and most pubs have at least one or two special home brews and a total of 167 unique beers are made and served within the city itself. We also host a lot of unique dining experiences with tradition food served like mother made it to exotic experimental food and sinker comfort food with various twist and turns. Ever cared to enjoy the national delicacy of Öblermígt which is a potato mash with diced fried pork smeared of a thick peice of dark rye bread called "Svarturbrauð" or you can try Korean infused Italian food, straight up Indian curry with Caribbean cooking styles and much more as Krjístaena starts to become a Mecca of both exotic and traditional foods within Insaeldor thanks to the cities heavily independent way of doing business.

The city has a very laid back flow to it as well. Usually things aren't really rushed and most people can stroll down the street while side walk performers do musical renditions of songs or unique works, magic trips, or pull mind games on people all of which can be seen in the city at night.

The city is while very ethically homogeneous is very religiously mixed. The main religion in the area is Christianity and with several churches of several denominations spread across the city. The next is irreligiousness, this is not to refer specificly to agnosticism or atheism but rather people who do not belong to a specific religious order. It clumps in groups like atheist and agnostics with people who might be cultural christians, people of faith who don't belong to any uniform religious background, or people who simple claim to be spiritual. Then we have the small religious institutions of Islam. Around 5,500 muslims live in the city and two mosques exist in the city. The largest one al-Khali Mosque which is a Non-Denominational Mosque which means regardless of ones practiced sect they may come, pray, and preform religious duties in the mosque. The smaller one is a tiny Ibadi mosque which caters to the few dozen Ibadi muslims in the city. The remain religious affiliations are Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Neo-Paganism, and Bábism all of which have their own places of worship for these people and with almost all of the faiths have both large places of worship as well as small privately owned places and even houses of worship set in ones own home. If you're religious you should not have any issue finding a place to worship in peace.

Geography

The Majority of the city itself lies on flat land with the exception of the River Kæl which cuts a six meter deep scare into the dirt and stone and runs right down the middle of the city. The the east however you start to run into the steep and jagad mountains which almost thrust emediatly into the sky and are centered around the now extinct volcano of Örflet. To the west you get flat lands which eventually run into the "Fjólubláttsviðum" or Lavender Fields which as the name suggest is a large portion of flat fields which are covered in Lavender flowers.

The dorms are unique, not only are they Co-Ed but are arranged in what is called a hand configuration. Each "dorm" is actually a shared living space with a living room like area in the middle which can be accessoriesed to the groups liking and then their are four off shoots which lead to rooms where four people can sleep and live in at any given moment. That means at full capacity you can share a living space with about 16 people although this is rarely the case and on average it's usually around 8 people who share a single living space at any given time.

The school is close to both the entertainment centric Löft District which features pubs and clubs and the central Old City district which houses many of the old stone city as well as several museums and educational places. So depending on what you like you've got plenty of options. Also the dorm facility has a large cafeteria where for 100 NSD you can get a full years meal card or you can pay as go and even buy and cook your own food if you wish within your living area.

The school requires three classes be taken by all students before they can pass on to the next year of finish their exchange program with all required credits and that is at least one Insaeldic Language class, one high level algebra class (dependent on your transcript), and one P.E. Class of your chosing from physical contact sports, cardio, and weightlifting or transports. If these classes are not finished then you will have failed your exchange program as you will not have met all credit mandates.

Entertainment, Shopping, and Nightlife

As stated before the city has a buzzing and vibrant musical scene from extreme heavy metal to poppy and sing songy folk music with some hip hop thrown in their for everyone as well. The music can usually be seen in the north east of the city where clubs and pubs host almost nightly shows. The city also has a thriving comedy scene with several establishments having shows as well as open mic nights for new comers to show up and try their luck.
Image
The skyline of Krjístaena's downtown district.
The musical scene is also very open with several places having open band nights as well so new bands can have an open forum to show off their musical skills.

Short Bio: Tamara is a twin, her brother Felix 10 minutes older than her. His father and mother are both historians, and try to push their children to succeed. She has always felt a little ignored compared to her brother, driving her to a loud, attention seeking personality as she tries to get her parents to notice her. Tamara has always been pretty, so she wasn't surprised when she was called by a modelling agency to model their new eco-friendly label. This brought her more into fashion than she believed, and now she owns her own brand of clothing, all designed by her.

IESP RP Discusson #3 [IESP only] [Let's try this again!]

Postby Arstravia » Tue May 26, 2015 8:55 am

Hey :)

My coutry applied for this program yesterday, so we're in :)

Before to fill in the application form, I have a few questions to ask :

- How can I decide where my students will be sent ?
- I would like to welcome foreign in my Capital City's Public University, how is this working ? Because this would mean this person has to know something about my country and my university for their RP. But at the moment there are a lot of stuff I have not decided yet, and I think about doing it this summer.
- All RP stories have to be posted in the other topic, am I right ? What kind of stuff do I need to tell, are there specific rules about it ?

Thanks :)

Now the application form (I will start with 1 student)

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT APPLICATION
Character Name: Yan Lansveld
Character's Home Country: The Constitutional Monarchy of Arstravia
Gender: Male
Age and Birthday: July 14st 1997, will be 18 this year
School Average (In %): 87%
Personality: A very calm personality (yet he can get angry when he's insulted or annoyed), very altruistic. But sometimes a bit clumsy and very disorganized (he often loses his stuff and his bedroom is always messy !!), and from a distance he can look awkward. He has the sense of honour and he can be trusted when he makes a promess.
Fluent Languages: Arstravian (mother language), French (learnt at school as a first foreign language). Is able to speak a bit of Nazarian.
Most and Least Favourite Subjects: Most favourites : Magic (an Arstravian speciality), Mathematics, History. Least favourites : Litterature, P.E.
Picture/Description: http://www.noelshack.com/2015-22-1432653546-yann9.png
On this picture, he is wearing a traditionnal Arstravian suit.
Short Bio: He was born in a small village called Bauer, in the province of Abfar. It is located in the northern part of Arstravia, at the junction of the border with the Empire of Nazar, the forest of Abfar and the great moutain chain of the North. He has a little sister called Amia, who is 1 year younger. He attended the elementary school of Bauer until the year of 9, and then went to the High School of his district. At the age of 15, he went to the Abfar's National School (in Arstravia, a National School is a selective school that includes an exam entrance, and that is dedicated to the ones who want to study magic, but it also includes all the traditionnal classes such as Mathematics or Litterature. Public Universities are normal universities and don't require to pass an entrance exam). When he was 17, Arstravia joined the IESP, and he decided to apply in order to discover a foreign country before he joins the Fighting Corps of Arstravia (it is the military path for the student who attended a magic school in Arstravia). Indeed, we still are a very closed country and thus it is an incredible opportunity for all the Arstravian students who will apply for this program !!
He would like to study Mathematics as well as a new foreign language during his exchange.
Religion: In Arstravia, people don't really have a "religion", but we are a very moralistic State, based on the Spirituality of Magic, and every citizen believes in our mythology (visit our page if you want to understand more).
What Accent Does the Character Have and Other Information Tidbits: The Arstravian accent. Because it is difficult to describe, here is a small overview of the Arstravian language : http://vocaroo.com/i/s0usVHozpo3n ("Our hard work makes Arstravia's pride. We will continue working hard for Arstravia's pride ! Long live the King !) http://vocaroo.com/i/s0WJtE7ugZoT ("We are very happy to participate in this program !) http://vocaroo.com/i/s1sMuWQXkE4k ("We hope Yan will be happy with his exchange/trip !"

That's it, I hope you have all the informations you need
And our doors are open too, come and visit our country we will be very happy

The United Arab Emirates of KwaDai
Capital City: Tripoli (طرابلس الغرب)
Leader: Sheikh Ahmed bin Jur al Ammani
Currency: KwaDaian Riyal (KDR)
Population: 72,246,110
Official Language: Arabic
Spoken Languages: English, French, German, Persian, Italian

A Brief Overview of KwaDai
KwaDai, officially the United Arab Emirates of KwaDai (Arabic: Kawdaiy كوادي) is a country in the region of the United Empire of Islam and is bordered by the KwaDaian Sea to the north, The Islamic Republic of North Arabia to the east and south. The Sunni Islamic Caliphate of Western Arab Empire and The Islamic Republic of Rehbran to the west. The country is surrounded on all sides except the coast by desert. The nation itself is made up of desert, mountains, and fertile forrested coastal plains. In the centre of the country there is a massive volcanic range known as Haruj. The metropolitan area of the capital, Tripoli is home to over 8.4 million of the population of KwaDai. The majority of KwaDai's people live in the north where the the country touches the sea and the climate though still very hot and dry, however recent irrigation schemes means the entire coast is now agricultural land and date palm forests. Here the land is flat and characterised by green fields of rice, olive or citrus trees and crops with the exception of the northeast where steep sloping hills graced by forests of date palm and citrus trees occur. Most of the countries wealth is easily visible in the north especially in the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi and Yafran. More recently the island city of Ras Ayyad has grown both in size and in population. KwaDai has a very strict but well organised government with Islamic beliefs held strongly however Sharia law is not followed. It's people and culture are mainly rooted in French and Arabian traditions. Arabic is the main language but French and English are widely understood. KwaDai today is an immensely wealthy nation due to vast quantities of oil and gas reserves which are not used in the nation because of fossil fuel policies however it is instead exported internationally in massive amounts generating the countries' largest income followed closely by automobile manufacturing.

This RP will take place in the eastern city of Yafran widely reputed as the countries "party capital" and perhaps the wealthiest city in KwaDai with its citizens earning more than in other cities across the country.

Yafran: A City Like No Other

Yafran is located on KwaDai's tropical north eastern coast in a fertile irrigated plain dominated by endless green fields of rice plantations divided by date palm farms and citrus fruit plantations. 50km south of the city the irrigated farmland ends and the desert begins. It is the start of the Great KwaDaian Desert and enormous expanse of sand stretching deep into the heart of the country. Yafran is only two hours south west of KwaDai's second largest city, Benghazi. Yafran itself is KwaDai's third largest city with a lively population of approximately 6.8 million none of whom are even remotely close to the poverty line or homeless. The cities romantic draw stems not only from its myriad of modern skyscrapers but also from its picturesque canals, narrow streets of shops and white sandy beaches stretching the entire coastline of the city. Crime is essentially nonexistent with violence, petty crime and pickpocketing being unheard of.

Yafran is divided into three administrative sectors: East Yafran, West Yafran and Central Yafran.
East Yafran:
East Yafran is a mainly residential area designed in a combination of Mediterranean and Arabic architecture. It covers the eastern third of the city formed of beautifully landscaped gardens, parks and footpaths. Sheikh Ahmed Road (second longest major motorway in KwaDai) runs through East Yafran connecting it to the city centre the blue metro line serves East Yafran. The Imperial Canal divides the east division from Central Yafran.
Central Yafran:
Yafran Central is the largest of the three divisions It is located between the East and West district and is made up of several islands. The main feature is the Marina's skyline of towering skyscrapers ranging in height from 200-1000 metres. The marina is be constructed around the edge of the islands which will be connected to the mainland and eachother by magnificent modern bridges. Four major malls are found in Central Yafran including The Mall of Yafran, the new largest mall in The United Arab Emirates of KwaDai. It contains 2000 shops. Burj Kawdaiy, the tallest skyscraper in KwaDai is located in Yafran, it is exactly 1102m tall, the tallest in the United Empire of Islam. Central Yafran is particularly impressive at dusk(approx: 18:40) when the skyscraper external lights are switched on bathing the city in an array of colour. On some buildings the colours change every ten minutes.
West Yafran:
Yafran's West division is a mixture of shops, museums, souks and public buildings. The Museum of Art, The Museum of Natural History, The Museum of Arabic Culture and The Museum of Islamic Art form the Yafran Museum Group and are located within the University of the Emirates. The University of the Emirates is an enormous university that holds an excellent national and international reputation. The Spice Souk is built in the traditional Arabian style and is to be found along the West District's waterfront where a traditional port and Fish market stand. West Yafran is also noted for the Al Abyad, the largest group of party streets in KwaDai.

Image

Yafran has a hot arid climate arguably the warmest of KwaDai's coastal cities with daily summer temperatures rising up to and beyond 40°c. During Autumn temperatures remain at an average of 38°c. Winters are substantially cooler with day temperatures of about 29°c. Spring usually holds temperatures of between 30°c and 37°c. Most rainfall occurs in November and February. A refreshing oceanic breeze is common year round giving a very pleasant atmosphere. Sea temperatures are usually warm and are very comfortable for swimming at any time of the year.

What to do?
Being KwaDai's capital of all things entertainment, Yafarn will not disappoint. The cities Al Abyad district is filled with the regions best bars and nightclubs. Most are very exclusive. These clubs cater to all tastes some being quite refined and formal like the Coastal Retreat cocktail bar or the vibrant and fun Al Hamra Nightclub.
Parties are not all Yafran has to offer, the city is also home to a massive selection of shopping malls which offer everything from leading international brands and designer sunglasses to traditional KwaDaian sweets and carpets. In Central Yafran the Mall of Yafran is the largest mall in KwaDai home to 2000 shops. Yafran Plaza, a large square in the city centre is host to the Burj Kawdaiy, KwaDai's tallest building at 1102m, 880 metres up is the viewing platform a deck area open to the public offering spectacular views of the city. Like Tripoli, Yafran Plaza also includes a choreographed fountain only instead of being in a lake, the fountain is in the marina.
If shopping malls or parties aren't to your taste then perhaps water and theme parks are? Al Ajūz Water Park is KwaDai's largest and newest water park, part of the five star Saray al Jazeera Hotel.

Public Transport & Getting Around Yafran:

Yafran International Airport serves Yafran and its surrounding towns and villages. The enormous airport has four huge terminals and is the secondary hub for the flag carrier of KwaDai, Imperial Arab Airways. IAA offers direct flights from over a hundred cities around the world to Yafran's terminal four (terminal four is only for IAA) making it very strategically placed, just over half of all passengers handled in the airport are on a stop over due to the airports useful location. Terminals three and four are for mid and long haul flights and stop overs and are the busiest where as terminals one and two are for mainly short haul and regional flights as well as unscheduled arrivals and emergencies. The airport's rush hour is from 00:00 to 1:10 at night and again between 4:00 and 6:00 with most flights arriving in at these times, the quietest times are from 14:00 to 17:00 but is still by airport standards very busy. The airport is open 24 hours and has three 4000m runways. The airport has two enormous duty free sections in terminals three and four which is very appealing to shoppers. Lounges are conveniently located in all four terminals. Most exchange students will probably arrive through terminals three or four.

Image
Yafran International Airport

Within the city there are many varieties of public transport including Yafran Metro, buses and taxis as well as the newly introduced KwaDai Rail which has two stations in Yafran, Yafran Central and Yafran International Airport. The metro is by far the most used mode of transport in the city. It has three separate lines. The blue line which tackles West Yafran the green line which serves East Yafran and the underground red line in control of Central Yafran . All meet together at the main Yafran Central Station which also is a hub for KwaDai Rail and the bus service. Tickets can be purchased online or at stations and have instructions in 20 languages. Though it sounds complicated the system is surprisingly easy to use and it is also cost efficient. For students the metro and buses are free due to student cards with only a small monthly fee. Other public transport is free in all variations on Friday.

The School & Student Life:

Students will be attending the prestigious Imperial School of Yafran. The school is located in Central Yafran, just 15 minutes outside the city centre and 25/30 minutes from Yafran International Airport depending on traffic. Spanning over an enormous space on the man made island of Jazeera al Hamra the complex was originally planned as a five star hotel resort explaining the unusual luxuriousness for a school but this was dropped when completed as the need for a large school in the city grew thus the site was redesigned to create a school campus and the hotel was relocated to 2km away. Since its opening the school has officially gained the reputation as one of the top educational institutes in KwaDai.

Image
Main Entrance to School

The complex is made up of the main building, student dorms and housing, nicely arranged canals, gardens and waterways and the converted Al Qasr Quarter which was once a fort for the powerful Arab tribes of the area. The main building is a newly built Arabian Palace styled architectural masterpiece completed in 2012 it contains the various classrooms and the school's central atrium. Decorated with typical Arab style furniture made from dark wood and the newer Italian influenced marble floor. The Al Qasr Quarter holds the library, theatrical areas and the student café. It retains its old Arab fort charm with its long narrow corridors and arched windows with wooden traditional shutters. Most classrooms are in the East and West Wings of the main building.

Student villas are designed for either two or four students. Two student villas are required to be same sex, four student villas can be either entirely same sex or two male students and two female students. The villas are tastefully decorated containing two bedrooms (two beds per room in the case of four student villas), a small balcony, fully fitted bathroom (two bathrooms for four student villas), two desks, a television, two suitable sized oak wardrobes and a sofa. Colour themes are cream/gold and deep marine blue. The deep marine blue used for finishings. All dormitories have excellent views of the schools gardens and canals while the Dar al Maysaf Beach Villas and the Umm Salal Beach Villas, have as their name's suggest, views of the beach, waterfront gardens and pool.
Students will be free to select their own roommates as long as they follow the set rules.

Upon arrival students are given one free afternoon and evening to settle in, get used to the layout, meet the other KwaDaian students and perhaps enjoy some of the city.
