I did suggest a musket, but that doesn't seem to be happening in the RP - for reasons of flying sky wizards committing ritual suicide to stop guns from happening, more or less.

Perhaps. Then again, missing the point is twenty percent of my life anyway. If you must know, the other eighty percent consists of procrastination.

Only in terms of firing rate. In terms of both range and penetrating power, crossbows of the late medieval period were superior. Additionally, a unique advantage of crossbows was that they could be loaded long before a battle, allowing immediate fire if surprised or ambushed.

Historical evidence would indicate that in the hands of a well-trained longbowmen, distances of 250-350 yards were commonly attained. A few modern archers have regularly achieved distances of 350-450 yards with reproduction longbows. Inigo Simot loosed an arrow 462 yards 9 inches in 1914, and there is a claim of someone loosing an arrow 482 yards with a longbow.

...

Sir Ralph Payne-Gallwey loosed a bolt from an actual Medieval crossbow spanned with a cranequin and achieve a cast of 490 yards. The ordinary 15th. century crossbow would likely cast a bolt 370-380 yards.

The funny thing is that this is comparing English Longbows to European crossbows, which is comparing the best longbows in the world to what are not the best crossbows in the world. Han Chinese crossbows were actually more powerful than medieval European crossbows, apparently. Not only that, but the Chinese also invented repeating crossbows, which were less powerful but had superior rates of fire compared to longbows.

The length of draw of the Han crossbow was about 24 in., and the two Korean crossbow bows illustrated must have had similar draw lengths. These bows are very stiff and with the length of draw employed must have been efficient, far more so than the European crossbow which only drew around 8 in., including the brace height, so that the distance over which the arrow received its impetus was very small. The draw weight of Korean/Chinese crossbows being spread over a longer draw the arrow or bolt would have a smoother acceleration, and more velocity would be given to it than a bolt from a European crossbow, assuming that the crossbows were the same draw weight. -from the Journal of the Society of Archer Antiquaries, pg 84

Perhaps not... The Poll is leaning heavily towards limited gun use, though Aeiouia's suggestion is to keep the flying sky wizards in place as an artificial cost to creating guns: It requires a high degree of magic to prevent the gun-idea-mind-wipe spell, thus only people wiling to sacrifice years of their life to make a gun can do so.

Yeah, I did. Changed the velocity again. (42 kg?!). Also, I didn't get any open rejections. I'd prefer clear answers.

Added a horribly impractical experimental "Sniper" rifle to my arsenal. I don't think it will work unless you are wearing power armor of some sort.

With sufficient recoil dampening and stability, you could use such a weapon without powered armour as well. In my arsenal is a 55mm anti-tank railcannon used by heavy sniper teams. It's a single-shot weapon and it requires a two-man team to operate, but it'll demolish lightly-armoured targets (armoured cars and mecha, for instance) and, with dedicated AP rounds, pierce the armour of modern heavy tanks. A short-barrel version of the weapon can be found in use by my nation's heavy assault troopers.

It's still an impulse of 30 kg(m/s), which is massive.

That, believe it or not, was the image I was originally going to use for Alexei before I made him an ork instead. Now it's a prototype for one of the two superheavy powered armour suit models, the other being the FK Reaper from T3: The Redemption.

I believe one significant advantage of longbow (at least according to the Ranger's Apprentice series) is that longbows (or bows in general) have much better accuracy (once trained) than a crossbow.
