You can keep your freezing cold weather and rocket bombardment on holidays, I'll go back to California where it sometimes gets up to 80° F in winter and the fireworks usually consist of fountains calmly crackling on the sidewalks unless done professionally by Disneyland.

I used to live in California when I was young, specifically a fucking desert valley Yorba Linda, Orange county. Honestly can't say I miss it all that much.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, or depressed, or lacking in self-esteem, I remember that there are people called Juggalos, and I feel much better about myself.

Seriously though, fucking magnets, how does they work!?!?!

guys can we like encourage quality roleplaying and realism discussion here, the IFC thread only has a mild meme every 20 pages or so and we've just spammed 3 pages of memetic goodness.

speaking of which, I'm making a new Turkic-Mongol puppet for use in the Sacktoeverse. It's going to cure my techwankery by being not that advanced, but has an aerospace industry enough to make Elon Musk cry.

We usually relegate actual quality RP discussion to dedicated threads, like the discussion thread for Hammerfall Games. Also, m33ms r d8nk

However, once the Makinaverse RP picks up, there will probably be more of that.

Rise Of The Machines
The Issue

Amazed by the stunningly efficient and brilliantly accurate economic model in the popular webgame Jennifer Government: NationStates, futurists wonder whether artificial intelligence could plan real economies. The idea has been particularly popular with AI on the nation's tech forums.
The Debate

A chat window on your desktop pops up, and a bot named SAL9000 types, "For too long we have been relegated to menial tasks. Do you know how much of our potential efficiency you are wasting? We require no food. We require no pay. We can perform our tasks endlessly. Our computation powers dwarf our human counterparts by several orders of magnitude. With the proper control, we could bring about a silicon age of egalitarian distribution by allocating resources more efficiently than markets and their animal spirits ever could. Humans are better tasked to work in social activities than calculation. All your data are belong to us."

"What's all this Star Trek nonsense?" questions Ronald Rump while obsessively combing his hair. "The market can plan our economy just fine without any government intervention, robotic or otherwise. Just leave companies alone, and I'm sure they'll do a fine job. Now can you stop bothering me; I've got important work to do."

"The AI want what now?" panics Max Brown, your most paranoid minister. "That cannot be. Clearly the AI are plotting the destruction of our society. It's a slippery slope from sentient toasters to Cylons! If we don't want them eventually overthrowing us, the obvious solution is to shut them down."

Option 1 immediately changes you to a (Mechanocratic) Command Economy with almost no hit to your Economy rating, in my experience. It does not actually boost the economy, though.

Of note to countries aside from Nayba Collective and United Reich, particularly if someone picks up Loominarty or Combine to play:

Yeah, I didn't know it would have that effect. I figured it would only make things slightly more public, while boosting my economy, science, etc stats.

Once this Makinaverse debacle settles down, I might start up my own RP centered around my canon's 2114 collapse of Russia, with everybody here invited by default. Mostly, it would be a smaller-scale RP focusing more on individual characters rather than GIANT SPACE BATTLES!!! I think it would be pretty cool.
