Luckily, Alexandria is only communist under the reign of the first monarch. After she gets shivved, everything gets really liberal and really efficient. It's almost like the first monarch was incompetent in every field that wasn't military command and just didn't know how to manage other humans.

It's just that, well, the Intelligence Division was spending its time hiding Technological Advancements from the Imperium, and plotting to overthrow the Imperium. Both of which worked, see literally the entire Aleph Division, and the current Grand Praetor. And the Aleph Division was, until recently, too busy pretending not to exist to actually understand any of the Technology it acquired.

Sounds like a glorious, beautiful, drama-inducing clusterfuck. Write moar about it sometime.

VISTA also loves socialists and state capitalists (however the fuck you define it), so long as dey gib monies. Our "national" ideology, curiously enough, is not capitalism. It's profit-driven utilitarianism , pure and simple. We don't advocate for a capitalist government to operate under because, well, we are the government, MWAHAHA! Honestly, VISTA lands right in the middle of the empty space in the Horseshoe Theory. Unfortunately, there isn't much historical precedent for a for-profit organization large enough to serve as a government on its own, except for maybe the British and Dutch East India Companies, and those were while Mercantilism was still dominant. So iunno what the hell VISTA is meant to be.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

On an unrelated note, I was wondering if there was anyone here who used Mentats like they are in Dune. They're pretty much people trained to be as intelligent as machines, and are often used by the government or corporations where computers are impossible to get.

Given how fundamentally different the workings of computers and human intelligence are, that would not be plausible in any realistic setting like mine. The best you could hope for is creating an army of people genetically engineered to possess the traits of savants, though that just entails a bunch of people with calculative abilities far exceeding that of normal people, but still a minuscule fraction of computers. As for training... no. Unless I have completely misunderstood what Mentats are (I've never read Dune).

We haven't had much fiction here, have we? A story written by one person and not an RP by two would be fun.

I have about 300 pages of story written in my canon, which I may or may not share with you guys one of these days.

Before it tanked, my economy was almost 100. 98, to be exact. I clawed my balls off in agony at it.
If I remember correctly, computers were banned, so certain individuals with genetic predispositions to having brain patterns or something could be trained to be able to store and process information. Fine takes place in at least 5,000 AD, so humans might have also evolved.
300 pages? Damn! That's impressive. In all of my creative writing, I've maybe only reached 50 or 60. I would gladly read any novel based off of it.

Not quite 300, but you get the idea. And I'm only about 1/3 to 1/4 through the whole saga, so there's that.

Hyperion seems like a highly appropriate thing to use for such a massive, profit-oriented entity. I'm trying to think of other sci-fi super companies, but I'm drawing surprisingly numerous blanks.

In all seriousness, steady trade and decent relations with Alexandria aren't hard to achieve if one pays the bribes quietly executes the omnipresent spies, rather than ruining international standings over them, and doesn't fuck with Arcus or Germinoma.

Well, there is the Trade Federation from the Star Wars prequel trilogy Nope, I really can't think of anything either. I'll trawl TV tropes in the morning to find some examples.

Fortunately, VISTA is quite savvy in that manner. For them, conflict is almost always a last resort. War is not very good for business, and every opponent killed is another customer lost.

Being a heartless capitalist who cuts taxes at every opportunity works.

Once you reach that part, avoid the tax code issue like the plague, and start being a bit nicer to poor people, fund education and the environment, etc.

I also have three Easter eggs while you have none kek

How do you only have 3? You get a fourth Easter Egg just for getting three...

A normal human brain outperforms personal computers in most ways, so a genetically engineered human would probably have modern tech computers beat if you did things right. I mean yeah, you aren't going to be beating supercomputers, but you're working with something smaller than a basketball here, not some large room with nitrogen cooling systems and stuff.

Are repelled by being weird. Basically, Imperium of Man clones tend to have purity enforcement based on historical Purity, because evil Chaos requires it. It's pretty arbitrary. This would be an evil "Chaos" that created something different than an Imperium of Man clone. It would be held off by having sex or being alien or weird transhumanists. I'll have to think about why.
