To be fair, half the cost is the antimatter ammunition, and we build our regular 2 kilometer ships in a year or two, but the Morningstar Class uses a special warp drive that takes longer because of the way we make warp drives.

I mean, I'd have to actually figure out how much it would cost to produce Antimatter when the process is so widely used that they use it as an Explosive because they have literally nothing else to do with it. Until the APPC is done, anyway.

1. Excidium Planetis uses the most optimistic estimates for antimatter costs: 10 billion dollars per gram. In real life, it is closer to 1 trillion. This is because you have to operate a particle accelerator and launch protons at a lithium target until it blows apart on a subatomic level, maybe producing some antiprotons, which then must be redirected into another particle accelerator for storage. The cost of operating the nuclear reactors to power this process is rather high.

I can see how that would make a genuine FTL drive valuable.

Reverse-engineering, due to our aforementioned lack of true FTL. We are secret-in-character attempting to get the technologies required to make Fylmeria a proper spacefaring nation, and one of the main ones is some kind of FTL system. While Excidium's is quite slow, we will probably be able to upgrade it a bit.

We also have determined Stormwrath to be of a threat to us, and we think that they are hostile. As a result, we are capturing their ships in order to immediately develop countermeasures for their weaponry.

Note that all of these efforts are meaningless. Later on, we manage to steal Tinfect's superior subspace tech, as seen in the Portugal 28XX RP. So, yeah.

What I don't understand is that my nation literally sells starships with warp drives... Military starships with the second largest standard warp drive class. And rather than buying one for only a few hundred billion dollars, Aeiouia steals one of our most expensive ships. Likely to end up destroying it, since Perrault Drives are designed to prevent tampering. They actually tend to self destruct, and Perrault Drive destructions can seriously damage or destroy even Aeiouian vessels.

That and we have some ridiculously slow FTL. Though I suppose...

Because plot. Normally, we probably would have surrendered in the Olber III fight right off the bat, but I am trying to give us a canonical reason to not make the RP incredibly anti-climactic.

And I have ret-conned Aeiouia a lot recently. We are not as goody-two-shoes anymore, because that is really crap writing, even more crap than the rest of my stuff. For instance, your earlier IC criticisms of our lack of a democratic government are now perfectly legitimate, and in fact quite the under-statements. We only look democratic, because something is secretly making all of the citizens like and vote for the weird giant psionic mech thing like total idiots.

We have one overarching goal that we are trying to achieve. Granted, it is an extremely altruistic goal, but we still are stopping at nothing to achieve it.

We have our technical pacifism because killing in the name of this goal would be counter-intuitive. Reverse-engineering the tech of these ships was determined as being important towards achieving this goal, so we are going to try to do that in any way possible that does not involve killing anyone. Of course, we already failed miserably at that, so yeah.

Again, though. Our efforts to capture them are completely pointless in the end, because we capture Tinfect's Subspace tech later on.

Actually, it cannot. I handwave all FTL not working in the Void, in order to keep our FTL speeds low to balance for their stealth. Due to this fact, we will be reverse-engineering it in the Void, in order to prevent an explosion or something.

Intelligence still has that lying around, by the way. We're not sure what we're going to do with it, since we swapped it out of the Silent Cast for a proper Subspace Drive, but its not like we have any reason to destroy it.
And we also replaced pretty much everything else on it.
The Navy is now seriously wondering why the hell they didn't just make their own because it probably would have been cheaper at this point.
