Humiliation for Hosts

Image

Baumes Men's National Football Team

Thousands of euphoric Baumish celebrated on Sunday in various cities around the Central Argean nation after the country's victory against host nation Saundesh in the opening game of the 2023 IFAF Western Isles Cup. The Bauma Aquille made the perfect start to the tournament by beating the Azure Dragons 3-1 in the Group A game.

Initially, after Saundeshi right-winger Vishnu Shah's 6th minute goal, it seemed the hosts might open the tournament with victory at home. This hope would be thwarted in the 52nd minute after Baumish midfielder Emiliano Sacha leveled the score. Just two minutes later, Niko Mendoza's header gave the lead to the Bauma Aquille. The scoreline was decided in the 69th minute by forward Breteau Severne's finisher. For inspiring his team in the wonderful comeback, Sacha was named the Man of the Match.

Fans dressed in national football jerseys and carrying Baumish flags in honour of the team filled restaurants, squares and shopping centres in various parts of the nation to encourage the team with their traditional slogan.

Ile Sabljiči ties with Itelia in IFAF cup

The Prvekjianči National Team have tied their first match in the Isles Cup in a nail-biting 1-1 near-loss.

Early into the match, both teams looked unlikely to score, with Itelia collecting a yellow card in the 5th minute and Prvekjiansci winger Lavlač Vargiol sending his shot into row 17 in a 1 on 1 with Itelian keeper Ervin Sokal. Then, in the 20th minute, Itelian midfielder Ioan Kozel scored a great outside the box shot that screamed right past Damjir Ndavić. Coming into half time, Atijner Ojmienesić collected a yellow as he tripped Karol Zima as he was chasing a through ball, but thankfully, Itelia missed the free kick.

After the break, Ile Sabljiči switched to their historic 5-1-2-1-1 which may have enabled Prvekjiansci striker Ivico Vilakonić who is a new addition to the national squad to respond as he netted in a well-placed one-two. Afterwards, both teams were hunting for the lead, but neither could grab a goal to secure a win. In the closing minutes, Itelia were on the verge of scoring, but Damjir Ndavić denied three shots sent by The Boars, which eventually saved Ile Sabljiči from losing their first game.

While some may not be satisfied with the result, many Prvekjianči are happy that their rather young backline were able to manage Itelia’s world class offense, however rather disappointed concerning the performance of veteran midfielder Klijmend Rijaćalji, who ran a record low 5.1 kilometres in the match, but this may be due to an hip injury he sustained at the start of the season.

The Sondran Daily Journal

2022 Valhapian general election: Live updates

Valhapia's general election begins today to elect a new Parliament. The polls show a very close race for control over Parliament between the current center-left coalition and the Valhapian National Salvation Front, a right-wing to far-right alliance of opposition parties as well as two paramilitary groups, along with their new Leader of the Opposition, Stig Lokken. This general election will be Lokken's first big test as both Conservative Party leader and Leader of the Opposition.

Polls close nationwide at 8 pm Valhapian time, when results begin to come in.

The Daily Journal will keep you updated on the results as they come in.

Update: Polls closed 30 minutes ago

The polling places for the general election closed 30 minutes ago nationwide, and results have begun to come in. Currently, the Conservatives are ahead of the Social Democrats, but only 30% of the vote is in, meaning it is anyone's guess as to who will win this election.

Update: Election is too close to call

As the night progressed, we saw very little difference between votea for the Social Democrats and votes for the Conservatives. Currently, they are both about even, and the total votes counted are 75%.

Lesvan-Balniki financial exchange officially signed

Throngist Republic of Lesva and the Federation of Balnik sign an official treaty on establishing a financial exchange

Image

First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Taica Berislavić has travelled to the Federation of Balnik, following a visit to the Throngist Republic's allied country less than a month ago. During last month's visit, the First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva went to the Federation of Balnik to meet with Leader of the Federation Andre Chernobog, in order to sign a communique between the Throngist Republic of Lesva and the Federation of Balnik, where both countries officially declared that they were committed to creating a financial exchange between both states, regardless of what the timeline of the process would be. At the time, the official communique was signed and the Throngist Republic deeply prioritized it, as the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva deemed it important to prove it to its' own citizens and to the allied Federation of Balnik that the Throngist Republic of Lesva was committed to going down this path and that the financial exchange, originally proposed by the Federation of Balnik, was not anything the Throngist Republic was willing to post-pone, cast aside, not to mention decline, even if for one reason or another, the financial exchange was not immediately something achievable. Now, less than a month later, First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Taica Berislavić has travelled to the Federation of Balnik to officially sign a treaty on creating the financial exchange between the Throngist Republic of Lesva and the Federation of Balnik.

In Rustov, First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Taica Berislavić and Leader of the Federation of Balnik Andre Chernobog have signed an agreement officially establishing a financial exchange between the Throngist Republic of Lesva and the Federation of Balnik. According to the treaty, as in the initial Balniki proposal, what was agreed on in negotiations that led up to the treaty that was signed and the communique that was signed prior, both countries have agreed to give each other's currencies an official status in each other's jurisdiction alongside the official national currency. This means that the Balniki Vrag would hold an official status alongside Lesvan Les in the Throngist Republic of Lesva and the Lesvan Les would hold an official status alongside the Balniki Vrag in the Federation of Balnik. First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Taica Berislavić did not rule out that possibly one day both countries might be interested in creating common single currency, which was a proposal once considered to be offered by the Throngist Republic of Lesva to the rest of the Eastern Tripartite (ET), as it was seen logical and possible that maybe ET could have one day have a single currency in the bloc, which could succeed the separate national currencies of all of ET member states.

First Secretary Taica Berislavić believes that the financial exchange is most likely not the only area in which the Throngist Republic of Lesva and the Federation of Balnik could seek closer ties and overall integration. The Throngist Movement Party of Lesva is expected to ratify the financial exchange treaty at the Supreme National Carto of the Throngist Republic of Lesva by the end of the week, officially making the bilateral agreement enter into force on the Throngist Republic's behalf, which will leave it up to the Federation of Balnik likewise to ratify it, so it could enter into force fully, once both sides approve it and move forward with implementing it.

  • IFAF cup becomes the primary entertainment event in the Throngist Republic of Lesva, as the championship is being broadcast in the country, despite the Throngist Republic not participating itself.

Hospital Ship from the Navy brings supplies to Fauiba

Fauiba -The Nisri Navy dispatched a hospital ship to bring supplies and evacuate hundreds of residents and tourists stranded on Fauiba Island, off the coast of the main island's south coast, due to bad weather. The ship set sail with food supplies, generators, and approximately 500 people bound for the island. Guyluse Neumeli Libenyx, the governor of a Guylusi - Fauiba in this context, wrote to the Navy requesting assistance after bad weather and high waves made transportation to and from the island impossible.

Ferry trips between a main-island port and Fauiba have been halted, and flights between the main island and Fauiba have been cancelled, according to Libenyx, due to rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. "This has caused delays in food distribution, evacuation of residents, and delivery of compressed natural gas to the Bawean power plant,"the Guyluse said.

More heavy rain is expected to affect areas south of the main island, including Fauiba and Luvahira, until January 6, with Fauiba placed on high alert for such weather conditions. The increased rainfall in these areas could cause floods and flash floods, as well as landslides, particularly on slopes or in high-elevation areas.

New wells and embankment dams boost Sobrausze’s irrigation storage

Sobrausze - Over the course of the region, the Sobrausze Agriculture Directorate built more than 20 embankment dams and wells, spending more than 670,000 Dyulus on agricultural projects that sought to collect rainwater through excavation. The directorate said that its water-harvesting initiatives "made a significant contribution to providing the various crops in the region with high amounts of water". Total rainfall in Sobrausze in 2022 was 420 mm, with some areas having received more than 460 mm. In Sobrausze, the quantity of rainwater stored in embankment dams and wells amounted to 6 million cubic metres. In order to preserve spring water for crop irrigation, the directorate presented plans to build additional ponds for farmers in 2023. Farmers in Sobrausze interpreted the beginning of the year's rainy season as "outstanding in comparison to previous years".

Nisryn accuses Esterazdravo of a deadly air base attack

Luvahira - According to Nisryn, a new Esterazian drone attack on a strategic bomber military base was foiled. Nisryn was able to shoot down the drone at a strategic aircraft base in the country. According to regional authorities, three servicemen were killed by falling debris. On the same day, Nisryn's domestic security agency announced the arrest of four Esterazian "saboteurs" who allegedly attempted to enter the country through a border region. Nisryn has accused pro-Esterazian forces of attacking Nisri military and civilian infrastructure, including the destruction of a bridge by a stray missile. It was the second attack on the base in less than a month and the most aggressive strike into Esterazian territory since the invasion began.

The Nisri defence ministry said in late December that Esterazian drone attacks caused explosions at two airfields, killing three people. At the time, the Ministry stated. Separately, The Ministry of Public Security and Citizens' Safety claimed it had arrested a group of armed saboteurs from Esterazdravo that attempted to cross into the main island carrying "improvised explosive devices".

President Announces "National Emergence Plan"!

During the conclusion of new years celebrations, President Beyn Tarr gave a speech about his plans for Domanania in the future, stating "It is a new year, and so a new Domanania must emerge and take its place in the world." The speech was concluded by the president making a public show of respect at a cemetery where members of his family are buried. This is the first time a president has invited the press while paying respects, the act being a very private matter in Doman culture.

Image
Beyn Tarr during an interview after the cemetery visit

The president gave his speech in front of multiple reporters. His plan, which he dubbed "The National Emergence Plan" was a series of points, briefly outlining goals for the rest of his presidency, even stating that it may extend into a 2nd term. The list was brief, only being about 3 paragraphs, but was broad and expansive in its goals. The plan would affect civil rights, foreign relations, the military, foreign policy, the economy, and the status quo of provincial rights.

Below we will provide an abridged version, and the goals currently stated. Beyn Tarr promised a more extensive document to be released to the public at the same time as it is proposed to congress.

  • Civil
    - Expand rights for minority groups
    - Expand LGBTQ+ protections

  • Economics
    - End exchange rate fixing and return to a floating exchange rate
    - Continue reducing inflation rates
    - Reduce price fluctuations in common goods
    - Fix wage rate increases
    - Reduce reliance on imported goods
    - Advance consumer industries technologically

  • Military
    - Reduce the conscription rate over time before amending conscription out of the constitution
    - Move towards a more advanced volunteer military
    - Amend military operational restrictions out of the constitution
    - Project more power overseas
    - Continue modernizing

  • Foreign Relations/Policy
    - Expand favorable trade agreements
    - Increased economic cooperation with friendly nations
    - Secure stronger alliances
    - Increase visa free travel agreements
    - Expand the number of embassies
    - Supply more military equipment to foreign/friendly governments
    - Expand Doman presence in overseas economies

  • Domestic
    - Return constitutional freedoms back to provincial governments

While at this time we cannot speculate on the extent of the changes, the brief outline seems to be expanding on some promises of Beyn Tarr's presidential campaign, it also seems to incorporate opposition goals in an attempt to gain support for the upcoming bill.

In the hours following, various critics of Tarr's party, campaign, and policies have pointed out that his plan; "Sounds like a more liberal 5 year plan like the Junta tried to push decades ago.", pointing out similarities between the Tíwaenaenabayu (Domanania First Party) and the Junta government. It also seems to try and export Doman goods overseas in an attempt to rise in the ranks of The Western Isles great powers. Author for the Gunsa Post Markus Híntu has insinuated that the far right Domanania First Party feels that Domanania is owed some great destiny in regional affairs, and has sought forms of Neo-imperialsm in the past but was held back by economic and constitutional restraints. They continued in the short article about Neo-Imperialist and Neo-Mercantalist tendencies in Doman right politics have lead to poor economic decisions in the past, such as the over reliance on Taebuhashos.

On the other side, supporters of the DFP's campaigns and promises have published supporting papers. The key one circulating is the Honyu Star, a popular newspaper and news outlet, which has in the past always shown a bias for conservative politics. The star publish that the party "Recognizes the restraints that the Doman nation and people are under and seek to free us from a prison of our own making.". The article continued with examples of poor policy choices by more liberal parties, such as the Doman Labor Party and the National Party, who in an era of complacency, almost lead Domanania to economic ruin and have been trying to reassemble the country since the 80's and 90's.

Regardless of early opinions, the country is eager to hear the more detailed plans from the president regarding this plan, which makes huge promises. If the bill passes, it may indeed lead the country into the modern era. However, there are possibilities that it may not go as planned. In which case, we will bring you updates as the bill advances.

National team ties with San Jimenez

Hang International Stadium, Saundesh – The Nisri Football National Team, Al Dacras Iscairaguc, tied the San Jimenezian Football National Team (SJMNT) 2-2; the two teams will now face the Costavozkan and Rodavese national teams. The audience described the first half of the match as "excitingly thrilling," with attempts to score occurring every minute of the half. One fan described the second half as "unpredictable," as each time the SJMNT scored, Al Dacras Iscairaguc responded by scoring as well. Some fans were dissatisfied with the draw and wished for a penalty shoot-out.

Disappointment For La Ficekopja

Sports Education Stadium- When the final whistle blew, favorites Borisuelo had lost by 1 goal to none. To the disappointment of the fans, Borisuelo dominated the game with a staggering 16 shots, bu couldn't convert. The possession-style play had worked, but not for goals. Striker Patrick Krakovicek was visually angered with his young teammates wasting chances. La Ficekopja hit the post once, and had a few shots on target, but not good enough for the togetherness of the Valhapian team. According to former coach of the national team, Frocek, a dominating style with individuals is your downfall, a defensive style with togetherness is a rare fantasy. The Borisueloan fan base is urgent for play in the knockout round, but the rather conflicted team might not keep that promise.

RKT - Royal Kessa Times

Score One For Martenyika in This Year's IFAF Cup

The 2023 IFAF Cup began for Martenyika today, and the men's national team has already secured a hard-won victory. The Green Devils (UAFA) faced off against the Crucemian Sundogs (RRFF) in Saundesh's Stadium 100, finishing with a 1-0 lead in both the game and current tournament performance. Martenyikan forward Kai Zemigassou was responsible for securing his team's ultimate success today, although in his words "I tried not to let it get to my head...I'll fight just as hard next game because that's what you have to do."

The Green Devils proved themselves to be quite determined in their 2023 debut. They were responsible for the first six attempts on goal almost as soon as the match started. Man of the Match Kai Zemigassou made the fifth attempt, which paid off as it bypassed the Crucemian goalkeeper and put Martenyika on the 1-0 track. However, the team was also slapped with the only two yellow cards of the game during this early blitz. The second yellow card seemed to be a turning point, as the Devils and Sundogs battled back and forth throughout the game. Crucemia almost succeeded in tying or even flipping the game by the end. In an exciting turn of events, the Sundogs launched a counterattack against the Devils, although they were unable to score before the final whistle.

Orioles embarrassed in Isles Cup opening match against Costavozka
Martí Pujolriu, Rodagues de Nit
January 2nd, 2023

The Rodavesese national team began their 2022-23 Isles Cup campaign in humilating yet typical fashion at Great Varga Stadium, losing to Costavozka 2-1. The Rodaves were heavily favored versus one of the lowest ranked teams in the tournament, however it seemed to have gone to the Orioles' heads as neither the offense nor defense managed to show up in big moments.

The defense started off slow early conceding two shots to Costavozka in the first nine minutes, both being saved by FC Calonge keeper Agustí Davanter. Those two saves however would be his last as Costavozka's only two on-target shots for the rest of the match got by Davanter with Cale van Lestrade scoring at 28 minutes and Albert Kruseoe at 45 minutes just before the end of the first half. Gualter Botarell would bring the black and gold brigade level for a brief time at 40 minutes after a free kick, scoring the Rodaves' only goal of the match before Costavozka retook the lead five minutes later.

Besides the Botarell score at 40', the offense, regarded as world class in the leadup to the Isles Cup looked flat for most of the match, especially during desperation time, only managing one off-target shot in the final 16 minutes. The final 16 minutes closed out the same-old Orioles narrative with centre-back Virgili being subsituted in for the final ten minutes of play and near instantly shown the yellow card.

Overall this match encapsulates the problems the Rodaves national team has failed to fix over the past five years, only amplified by the departures of the teams' two icon players in Keki and Quim Casta. The continuous disfunctionality of the team despite the immense talent has also proven that new boss Biel Santanyí is not the solution the Rodavese squad is looking for. It is hard to see where the Rodaves go from here if the Rodaves crash of the group stage after missing the tournament entirely in 2021-22. It is likely that if the Rodaves also disappoint in the Mesder Cup in February-March that Santanyí could see himself out after just one year with the Orioles. The Rodaves has to perform in these next two matches against Nisryn and the SJMNT or the Rodavese Isles Cup drought will extend and the Rodavese fans will have to wait another year to realize their Isles Cup dream.

Conservatives, allies win 2022 general election

Sondran- The Sondran Daily Journal projects that Stig Lokken's Conservative Party will win the 2022 general election. The final vote tallies show about 25% of the votes went to the Conservatives and about 20% went towards the Social Democrats. This puts the Conservatives at 154 seats out of 600 in Parliament and the Social Democrats at 121 out of 600, meaning neither have an outright majority. This means that the Conservatives will have to negotiate a coalition agreement with other parties in Parliament. However, his allies from the inter-party Valhapian National Salvation Front have won enough seats to secure a narrow 304 seat majority if they form a coalition with the Conservatives, which appears to be a certainty. Current Prime Minister Alonir Gesnar offered his concession on behalf of his party, saying, "It has become clear to me that my party will not retain its plurality in Parliament, and have lost this election. I wish Mr. Lokken all the best going forward, and I hope he will work with the other parties to secure a future for Valhapia that is acceptable to all."

San Jimenez, January, 2023

|CANONE FACES SUSTAINED OPPOSITION||SAN JIMENEZ|

In the previous year, President Canone made the primary focus of his political administration to combat poverty and increase economic growth in the country. It was a focus that was mostly embraced by his colleagues in the Common Accord Party as well as a few members of opposition parties. During his presidential campaign, that platform had won over the rural and poorer population of San Jimenez to Canone despite wavering support among that demographic for the Common Accord Party itself. However, as Canone allies introduced bill after bill, the battle for votes intensified. Hardline conservatives within the party clashed with the administration. At times, the Common Accord Party found itself divided on key issues and questioned where Canone and his political allies stood.

Image
Protestor during the San Miguel regionwide protest.

Division within the party became increasingly visible with last year's widespread strikes and protests in the impoverished San Miguel region. The protests emerged as disputes between landowners and farmworkers materialized after years of poor working conditions and inadequate wages for workers. While members of Common Accord feared economic losses and urged for an end to the worker strikes, President Canone defected from senior representatives and backed the farmworkers during a visit to San Miguel. The president demanded reforms and lashed out against party colleagues who remained silent on the issue. After the visit, the president's sway over the party was tested as only a few members changed their position.

The Child Nutrition Act, an act which would provide free meals for school children from K-12, became another magnifier of political division. After the landmark bill was reintroduced onto the State Synod floor for a vote, the party was again bitterly divided. 83 members voted in favor while 75 fiscal conservative members voted against, despite the president's endorsement of the bill. Joined by opposition members, the bill would pass 173-127.

Foreign policies too have been the subject of debate among the Common Accord Party. Towards the end of the last month, the president came under fire after his administration allowed for a Lesvan-Itielian diplomatic meeting to be held in Gran Teran. One representative condemned the action, going as far as accusing the president of tying himself to the Lesvan regime. Critics of Canone were left puzzled by the decision and criticized the president's willingness to allow those countries to meet in San Jimenez. Both Lesva and Itielia have typically been viewed by many in the Jimenean government as dangerous and the government has maintained cautious relations with both. President Canone claimed that the meetings were allowed for the "hope of working towards peace" in the region.

Jimenean officials were not present during the meetings and the administration emphasized that San Jimenez would simply be a neutral ground. "I welcome dialogue. Wherever and whoever it may come from," stated the president. The president reaffirmed his position that San Jimenez has not changed its view of either nation. Relations towards both countries are to be conducted with caution.

Image
Flag of The Theocracy of Najimam.

And finally, this morning it was revealed that a trade agreement between San Jimenez and Najimam had finally been reached as both parties have sought to improve diplomatic and economic ties with one another. The trade agreement falls just short of benefits received by members of the Association of Eternan States. It remains unclear whether Najimam will move towards membership into the AES although President Canone has indicated his support for such a move. Investments by Najimam into San Jimenez have thoroughly increased recently and Jimenean officials have been hesitant to welcome the partnership. The president welcomed the agreement stating that "this partnership will only bring prosperity and cooperation for both countries."

Recently, both countries have engaged in mutual cooperation. One notable instance of this was after Najimamian fishers were apprehended by Jimenean authorities after they were caught fishing illegally in Jimenean waters. After investigations began by both countries, the Jimenean government commented on the swiftness of the Najimam response. Those apprehended were later extradited to Najimam and face justice there. Canone spoke briefly on the subject of Najiam briefly stating,

"I am personally optimistic about what this agreement and what future partnership will bring to both our countries. I understand the concern and caution that some hold. However, we cannot allow our notions to overshadow the reality. We have seen that progress can be made. Najimam, despite our differences, is genuine. It is my position, and the position of this country, that we must build bridges where they can be built."

Despite a new year, it seems that the previous year's challenges that the Canone administration faced will only continue. Many question how the young president will respond, either with concession or with renewed confidence.

Najimam's trade deficit reaches an all-time high

Najimam has reached an all-time high negative trade balance, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The country has been importing more goods and services than it is exporting, resulting in a significant trade deficit that surged to 61%.

The main factor contributing to this imbalance is the rapid expansion of Najimam's manufacturing and logistics sectors, which has led to a surge in demand for raw materials and intermediate goods from abroad. Despite efforts to increase domestic production of these inputs, the country has been unable to keep up with demand, leading to a big reliance on imports.

In addition, Najimam's growing currency and increasing wages have made it difficult for the country's exports to compete on the global market. As a result, exports have lagged behind imports, further exacerbating the trade deficit.

The negative trade balance has had a number of consequences for the economy. The inflow of foreign goods has led to a slight increase in inflation, as the increased demand for imported goods has driven up prices. This, in turn, has led to a decrease in the purchasing power of Najimamians as of late.

Furthermore, the trade deficit has put a strain on Najimam's foreign exchange reserves, as it has had to use these reserves to pay for the imported goods. This has led to concerns about the long-term stability of the Nezim. Immediate solutions are demanded to improve the situation.

In response to these challenges, the government is planning to implement a number of measures to try to address the trade deficit in the next few weeks. These include negotiations with trading partners to reduce tariffs and other barriers to trade, as well as efforts to increase the competitiveness of domestic industries through investment in research and development.

Moreover, Najimam is planning to make more investments and sign new trade agreements with nations in the Eterna-Argean as it did with San Jimenez recently, and submit an official application to join the AES in the next few days.

Despite these efforts, it remains to be seen whether the trade deficit can be reversed in the short term. In the meantime, Najimam will have to continue to rely on imports to meet its needs, while also working to boost its exports in order to reduce the trade imbalance and improve its economic outlook.

Isles Cup hosts Saundesh eliminated after defeat

Image

Dormill and Stiura Men's National Football Team

Saundesh are rooted to the bottom of Group A with one game to play and have become the first team to be knocked out of the 2023 IFAF Western Isles Cup. After a 3-1 loss in the opening match to forget against Baumes, the Azure Dragons were further humiliated on Thursday at the Great Varga Stadium by Dormill and Stiura.

While the first half of the match ended without a single goal being scored by either side, the stadium burst into life at the 47th minute after Grant Albert dribbled past the Saundeshi defense and sent a low cross towards his teammate Riny Belcher. The Doraltic left-winger and captain easily converted Albert's pass into the first goal of the match with just a slight touch to the ball. The Republicans would double their lead in the 61st minute with through the duo of Albert and Belcher again. This time, Albert found himself marked by Saundeshi defenders Laxman Yadav and Man Rai and decided to send the ball back to Belcher. The Doraltic captain then fired a long powerful shot which Saundeshi captain and goalkeeper Ram Chaudhary was unable to stop.

In the 78th minute, Albert decided to take the corner kick and sent the ball flying towards Haywood Waldroup. The Doraltic defender's header would be the third and final goal of the match. For his three wonderful assists, Albert was named the Man of the Match.

Saundesh's second defeat at the 2023 Isles Cup leaves them bottom of Group A with no points and, after Baumes lost 2-1 to Solaryia, out of the competition. In the final Group A games, Saundesh will face Solaryia and Baumes take on Dormill and Stiura on Monday.

Rowland's celebrate world-first hydrogen-power jet engine

Image

Rowlands and AOAC partnered up to test whether hydrogen-powered planes can one day clean up aviation’s pollution.

Rowlands Aerospace and Alteran airline AOAC announced that they’ve successfully tested a hydrogen jet engine — technology the companies hope might eventually help erase aviation’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The ground test marks “the world’s first run of a modern aero engine on hydrogen,” Rowlands said in a press release today.

Aviation is considered one of the most difficult industries to clean up because it’s much harder to make electric planes than electric vehicles.

Whist batteries charged with renewable solar and wind energy are viable for ground vehicles, they are still too bulky for long flights and aircraft wishing to use jet propulsion; so airlines and plane manufacturers are working to develop planes that can run on cleaner fuels like hydrogen, which produces water vapor instead of carbon dioxide when burned.

The two companies used a converted Rowlands RAE 2100-A regional aircraft engine for the ground test conducted in the UC.

The Alteran Marine Energy Centre produced the fuel for the test at a hydrogen production and tidal test facility on the outskirts of Skyvark in the UC’s Balwark Islands.

As the hydrogen produced was made with wind and tidal power, and not derived or power by fossil fuels - it is known as green hydrogen, which itself promises to revolutionise the hydrogen energy sector.

Both Rowlands Aerospace and AOAC have made company commitments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and are looking to green hydrogen to help them reach the nation's ambitious climate goals.

But for now, green hydrogen is still in short supply and prohibitively expensive to make; however some governments, including the Ryansan administration, have begun to invest heavily in producing more of it.

While green hydrogen is produced with renewable energy, most hydrogen today is still made using gas - though soon all hydrogen could be produced from sea water, which is in abundance throughout the region.

Another major hurdle for hydrogen-fuelled flight, according to the International Air Transport Association, will be to introduce and certify new aircraft designs.

To run on hydrogen, aircraft need to be redesigned to incorporate larger fuel tanks. For instance, an Alteran Aerospace 6-11 'double-decker' jet would need more than 1 million litres of hydrogen to get roughly the same range as 250,000 litres of jet fuel.

With those limitations in mind, it looks like green hydrogen will initially be most useful for short haul flights and aircraft such as the AAe 3-11 and Caelius Dynamics C-100.

And while the recent ground test might have been an early success, there’s still a lot of work to be done before a hydrogen-fuelled flight takes off.

Rowlands Aerospace and AOAC are planning more ground tests before moving on to “a longer-term ambition” of carrying out flight tests, according to the Rowlands press release.

OPINION: #쏙닥쏙닥 Why the marches were such a big deal

By Cheo Nima
06.01.23

Image
Women with banners assembled outside the Toechon District Hall of Assembly
Last week's protests were big. Really, really big. Though exact numbers are obviously hard to come by, there were an estimated 100 thousand at least who came together on that fateful day all over the country to say, with one voice, that the situation we currently live in cannot stand, not for one second longer. This wasn't just about the slug-like pervert of a mayor of a district of Geumhae, whose name needs no mentioning. This wasn't just about the things one man did. It was about everything. It was, no it is, to take a leaf (not THAT leaf) from the emblemic 60s hippies, all about the system, man. The system which keeps women back, devalues them, holds them down, which has and always has. And it is for that reason that even if that mayor steps down, which self-proclaimed "inside sources" have hinted at on ChekChek, the combat will not be over.

It would be convenient to blame "capitalism" for the ills women now face, as many often do. But capitalism cannot create, only weaponise and streamline existing processes until they are the most efficient means of extracting value possible. The roots of our oppression are deeply written. Since time immemorial, Cheongsan has been a deeply patriarchal society where your value has derived in large part from your grandfather and father's lineage. Women could not own land unless their husband died without any male relatives able to take up the ownership, with a nephew seen as somehow more deserving than the man's wife. While the law did not stop women from entering trade, those that did were seen as spinsters in the making. Better to stay inside, cook, and sew. If you were lucky, the man would take you out in fine dresses and display you to the world. If not, he would leave you at home to cook and find a younger, prettier little concubine for this role. Myeoncheo, or "face wives" would be displayed as symbols of masculinity, reducing women to mere baubles, while Sucheo, or "hand wives" would occupy tasks. Your value was decided by men, you were traded around by men, and the only place one could see a different way was among the Baekjong and Mujari peoples.

Capitalist expansion in the 1800s shifted the functionality of this paradigm, but not the attitude behind it. Women remained objects of value, yet that value had a new use. Polygyny was diminished, but now a woman had to be both a Myeoncheo and a Sucheo to support her hard working husband. The Jubu-gyeongje, or "housewife economy", soon emerged, attempting to seduce women with an expansion of accessories which would make them the perfect asset to their husband. This, they were told, was what a patriotic woman did. This economy is now one of the most ludicrously functional in the nation, having bred an expectation that if you do not perfect a 12-step, 15-product nightly routine there is no way that they will ever have the inattainable beauty standard physique needed to find a man, the source of all of their happiness. By some cruel twist of fate, the Cheongsanese beauty industry has been able to market itself internationally, ensnaring the next generation of impressionable young girls across the isles. If only they could see how bad things really are.

When women were finally allowed into the workplace, you might have thought things would have improved. And I suppose they did, in the same way that being groped on the crowded train is better than being stabbed to death because you turned down a man (both of which, it must be noted, have happened at an alarming regularity). Women now have an illusion of choice, between the corporate leviathan which emands the best years of their life, at least 50-60 hours a week, without any real consideration for maternity leave or any other feminine concerns, where they are passed over constantly for promotions, harassed, talked down to, paid less, etc etc etc, or finding a husband and accepting to be the smiling Myeon-su-cheo of a 1920s makeup advertisment. Never mind the rates of domestic violence and cheating, some of the worst you will find anywhere.

In short, to be a woman in Cheongsan sucks. Now, I'm sure you will find people willing to argue, and sure, there are some advantages living here. There is, in urban areas at least, regular access to running water and electricity. There is education, which is free as long as you don't aspire to rise too high in life. And the food is pretty damn good. But until women have even a semblance of the same footing as men in this country, we will have to fight.

And that's why the protests mattered. Because for once, it wasn't just a small core of hardened activists protesting, the eternal "unwashed feminist ogres who would never find a woman anyway" that we hear about so often from the right. It was successful salarywomen, respectable housewives, aspiring young students. There were even men present, and not just to try to sift by showing their supposed feminine touch. It was real, it was large, and it was all of us. Last week, women's anger showed. Now we will have to see if the men who clutch at the reins of power will listen. Gang In resigining would be a good start, as were President Sim Dong-Sun's assurances that what he said was offensive to all people. But words are cheap. Actions are the only things that carry value now.

Solaryí Government Leadership Arrive in Costavozka on Relations Trip

NEW EDEVAR, DECEMBER 21
Today at 9:30 AM local time, the aircraft carrying senior members of the Solaryí government- including Consul Conti Bellarys- landed at New Edevar International Airport, beginning the day-long relations trip. The trip- stemming from an invite from the Chancellor- has been in the works for quite some time and was planned for the purpose of improving relations between Costavozka and Solaryia. Conducting the honor guard during the welcoming ceremony was the 3rd Military Police Division. After the ceremony, the delegation from Solaryia traveled to the Costavozkan Council Chamber to conduct a tour and meet with some of the Representatives from both houses, prior to heading off to the National House for a tour and closed-door meeting with the Chancellor. Further planned activities can only be speculated, but it is rumored to include a visit to the National Imperial War Memorial and a State Dinner prior to a departure tomorrow morning.

Costavozka Wins 2-1 Against the Rodaves in First Match of the 2023 IFAF Cup

JANUARY 3, 2023
During their first match of the 2022-2023 IFAF Western Isles Cup, the Costavozkan Titans won 2-1 against the Rodavesese national football team, much to the delight of Costavozkan football fans everywhere. While the odds were heavily stacked against the Titans, the Orioles found themselves caught off-guard for the majority of the match, only gaining a single goal due to a free kick at the 40-minute mark in the game. In a post-game interview with the management of the Titans, the Senior Team Manager admitted that this victory was likely a fluke and that the team structure would be improved upon following the completion of the cup. Despite doubts, the man of the match, Sergiu Vonel (#4), one of the defensive players recently tweeted about his high hopes and expectations for the team. Whether or not the Titans reach this goal and expectation is still too far away to tell and will be determined by the matches to come. The next match for the Titans is scheduled for January 6th, 2023 (San Jimenez v. Costavozka).

Ile Sabljiči top of group after Čepakiće “The Gladiator” Jibratoić scores rocket

The Prvekjiansci National Team have snatched their first win in the 2023 Isles Cup.

Crowds in Čepakiće Square had to be separated after Prvekjiansci midfielder Jibratoić score a monster goal against Najimam in their second group match.

Following habit, not much offensive action was seen in the first half by the Prvekjianči, but after half time Jibratoić woke up the rest of the squad. He intercepted a lazy pass into the midfield and brought it to Ivibro Ernasa running down the flank. Ernasa played it back to The Gladiator who decided to shoot.

The ball screamed just past the Najimam keeper and into the net, enough to grab a win for the team.

It is Jibratoić’s tenth goal in the Isles Cup, and a nice way to finish his career. The 36 year old announced his retirement at the end of the calendar season but still wished to play in the cup for Prvekjia.

He has since signed a contract to be a commentator for the Prvekjiansci First Division.

NVI skeptical of new Hydrogen engine technology

Earlier this week Rowlands Aerospace announced the invention of the world’s first hydrogen-powered jet engine.

The new engine powered by hydrogen will emit water vapour, providing a green alternative to jet engines now that emit carbon dioxide.

However Prvekjiansci vehicle manufacturing company NVInzenjer is unsure about the practicality of hydrogen engines.

“Hydrogen powered engines are quite the invention” NVI Co-owner Zakra Brustivić says, “and I must commend Rowlands Aerospace for this achievement in stepping towards a emission free future. However as they also stated, almost four times more litres of hydrogen is needed to power these engines compared to kerosene. I also question the safety and reliability of these engines; NVI will have to see the success of these engines before we invest in them.”

Montien, Jeriga

Protests Turn Violent Over New Years and Into First Week of the Year, King Orders Army to Train in Urban Warfare as Police Struggle

Protests in Montien by Socialists and Communists turned violent beginning on New Year’s Eve. According to police, the protests were driven to violence by “copious amounts of alcohol and certain individuals inciting the crowd.” These individuals seem to be former MPs, if social media videos are to be believed.

According to Police Spokesman Andre Carlito, the violence began after several speeches “agitated the crowd” which, though small, “then quickly turned to organized violence.”

Social media shows rioters throwing stones at police, who responded by enveloping the rioters and deploying tear gas to their rear, which had the effect of boxing them in. Nearly all the rioters were arrested, but most were let go without charges the following morning.

The violence comes as small, but persistent, protests have been developing around Jeriga. In Varlton and Alcillia, they have been against the Socialists. In Montien, red flags dominated the streets the protestors occupied. Despite the varying sizes, police had been able to prevent violence until New Year’s Eve. Since then, violence has sporadically occupied police and more than 400 protestors have been arrested and charged in Montien alone. The crowds have never exceeded 3,000, but the violence has been responded to in the same manner as if the riots had been of 10,000.

This hard response from police is said to be in proportion to the threat, Andre Carlito said in an interview.
The issue at hand is not the protestors that are on the street, but the people sitting at home that may get the idea that times of discontent are opportunities for destructive tendencies. So far, this approach has worked at limiting the crowds we see coming out. In Montien, the largest was 3,000, but the last few days we have seen a decrease in crowd size to about 2,000 protestors. I want to remark that the vast majority of these protestors are peaceful and that no riots have occurred in any city but Montien. The minority of these protestors cause the headache for police.

The Mayor of Montien said that “freedom of speech is a right that has and will be protected in these disquieted times.”

The King, though, has stated through the Royal Spokesman that “Law and Order will be maintained.”

According to sources in the Army, soldiers will be given a refresher in urban combat and riot control. This has been commanded by the King and is only a precaution, The People’s Daily has been assured. Officials do not believe the Army will be needed.

Jerigan Teams Disappoint in International Tournaments

Jeriga’s national football team disappointed in a game against Wellsia earlier this week, losing 0-3. The King’s Nephew, Julio Moreno, did quite badly in the match, with some Football fans accusing the national club of nepotism. The coach, Alfonzo Porti, says that he has been “transparent in every way” concerning the Royal player.

The King’s niece, Elise Moreno, also failed to win her first round in the tournament, getting knocked out as a result.

The Royals have always been pushed towards sports regardless of their natural abilities since the beginning of the Crown in 1617. The sovereigns have always believed that sports, be they intellectual or physical, build character. The approach has been met with disappointing results for the teams they play on and bets seem to build against the teams with “Moreno” in their roster.

However, there has yet to be a case of favoritism among the coaches or team members. Observers have always noted that the Moreno’s seem to get treated worse rather than better on account of their blood. The Crown’s inability to participate in sports has often been described as “Born to rule, not to play.”

There have been exceptions, though. King Elroy was a stunning player for the Montien Dragoons Club from 18-22, when he ascended the throne. He has been known to host matches in the palace since he retired from playing himself.

The Morenos will not be playing next season, the national club and the National Chess Association said in separate statements.

The National Team will play Aizcona on 1-8-23. Bets are already stacked against the demoralized team.

Defeat and Domination in Recent Competitions

TWIs Cup
Kuwarkiistan has played two matches in the TWIs cup, one against Najimam on the 1st of January and another against Itielia on the 5th of January. After a 2 -1 loss against Najimam on the 1st, the team went on to play a tied 1 - 1 game against Itielia on the 5th. If Kuwarkiistan is to make it passed the group stage in their upcoming game against Prvekjia the team would need a miracle.

Chess
On a completely different trajectory is the chess player Faramarz Khaledi. Faramarz is a 74 year old Grandmaster from the mountainous inland region of Zhuk. He was trained from a very young age to play chess and became a Grandmaster at the age of only 15. He has an elo(rating) of 2753 currently he has continued to study and play tournaments throughout his life.

Faramarz cam out victorious in today's match against Jerigan player Elise Moreno. Faramarz played 4 games against Elise a won 3 out of the four games.

Elise Moreno is the niece to the Jerigan King, King Moreno. This win against Elise is sure to lower the spirits of the Jerigan royalty as well as raise the spirits of the Kuwarkiistani people after the losses in the TWIs cup.

Green Devils Come Out on Top in Second IFAF Battle

In their latest match, the Martenyikan Green Devils (UAFA) came out on top of Borisuelo's Cavalry (MSFC) by a 2-0 margin. This was Martenyika's second consecutive win of the tournament, putting it in the running to dominate and advance beyond Group F. The Martenyikan national team already began their 2023 IFAF performance Tuesday, where they secured a 1-0 victory over the Crucemian Sundogs (RRFF).

The Martenyikan Green Devils took Sports Education Stadium by storm today, asserting themselves from the beginning of the match. This is not entirely unlike the Devils' first match against Crucemia on Tuesday, however Martenyikan commentators have already pointed out clear differences which may have benefitted the team. Most notably, Martenyika displayed greater restraint in today's match compared to the one on Tuesday. "We never saw Borisuelo make a huge counterattack like Crucemia did on Tuesday...we started strong but rationed energy and used it wisely," commentator Joseph Mokongo told RKT.

Coincidentally, Martenyika's 2-0 score in the match reflects its current 2023 IFAF record of two wins and zero losses. Midfielder Augustine Sangwani and Defender Chike Obasey scored the first and second goals respectively, while Sangwani was also nominated Man of the Match. Kai Zemigassou also scored Martenyika's 1-0 match victory on Tuesday, and similarly earned Man of the Match.

Next in the line-up are the Valhapian Mustangs (CEFA), who slammed Crucemia 3-1 today. "I'm confident in our ability, but we won't let our guard down," Coach Mambila said in response to questions about how his team felt going against the Mustangs next. Valhapia is the last challenger Martenyika faces in Group F, and will likely put up a serious fight. Both teams were believed to be roughly equal going into the Cup, with Martenyika keeping a defensive edge, so in a tournament full of upsets--anything may go.

Riny Blecher, The Doraltic GOAT?

The Dispatch International - TAPU SAHAR, Saundesh, 07 January 2023 - As the first week of the 2023 IFAF Western Isles Cup closes, the United Republics team has taken a commanding lead in Group A with a 3-0 domination of the Saundeshi team on 5 January. Since the change of the Isles Cup calendar to winter, Blecher and his teammates have spent the last several years acclimatizing to new schedules, which was used to explain last year's disappointing elimination from the group stage. Now with several years of preparation under their belt and new leadership in the form of coach Baptiste Girard, the Doraltic team has come out to take a serious command of what observers remarked as one of the toughest groups in the Cup.

At the center of Thursday's victory is team captain Riny Blecher, the Veldzicht Sniper as fans have often called him and his propensity to lead his teams in goal scoring. The highly emotional 61 minute goal by the sniper has cemented the idea in many minds that he has become the greatest footballer in modern Doraltic history, a claim that he has humbly set aside during the post-game interview, stating his focus on continued performance in the cup as the Doraltic team is set to go face to face with the Baumes which could make or break the nation's Isles Cup hopes for the third year in a row.

2023 Budget Announcement Set for Monday

KAPOLDER, 07 January 2023 - In a bid to stay ahead of the curve, President Dyson announced Saturday that the fiscal year 2023 federal budget would be ready to present to Congress by Monday. The massive spending bill that is expected to see significant increases to the Defense, Health, and Energy budgets signals Dyson's readiness to leverage the healthy and growing Doraltic economy to challenge some of the nation's more significant pitfalls. Of special notice, a source that claimed anonymity stated that the Dyson government is seeking to start an energy infrastructure initiative to strengthen the southwest, a region that has been stricken by energy insecurity since Baetylus and has relied on Roendavarian hydropower to meet the fast-growing energy needs of Zwolle City and the Upper Helle metropolis.

On the defense side of the budget, which is expected to make waves at close to $51 billion, highlights what Defense Minister Hector Causey calls a "fast-evolving and dangerous security situation in Dormill and Stiura's areas of interest," citing specifically heightened tensions with Balnik and the Eastern Tripartite, the terror group Aegis, and the military's ongoing commitments to defending peace and order in the Southern Sea. Most of the military's expanded budget is marked for spending on final adoption and production of the Army's and Marine's New Infantry Rifle, further purchases of the Gaelfighter and Gargoyle 7-3, and the addition of at least two new Gael-class frigates to the existing order, making for 14 total ships of the class.
28 Million; and Other Census Figures

Every year, the United Republics Census conducts smaller-scale surveys and estimates to keep track of national demographics on every topic, ranging from religion to ethnicity to even mundane topics such as Internet and TV access and Car Ownership. As part of its December 2022 publication "A Year in Review", the agency announced that December 2022 was the month that the United Republics population crossed 28 million, a milestone that highlights the pace of the nation's growth since 2002, when the nation crossed the 27 million marker.

Demographers from across the nation shared their opinions on the news, with some praising the nation for keeping up with population growth to ensure future prosperity, while others lamented a future of overcrowding, a situation that some have expressed fears of already being underway in Kapolder and Zwolle, the nation's two largest urban areas by population.

Alongside the shift in population, the shift in national attitudes surrounding religion have also followed similar trends, with the nation's irreligious population now amounting to 65%, pushing out the many diverse Christian groups into a smaller minority. The coinciding of this shift with the growth of the nation's Muslim population, correlated strongly with Charbagnian communities, further shows the massive change from Dormill and Stiura's origins as a Christian-majority nation into the modern, highly secular state it became as of 2022.

Najimam stands with Romancia

Last October, several Baumish police officers shot on a crowd of peaceful protestors demanding Romancian independence, killing 6 civilians. Ever since then, tensions continue to rise in Romancia. The Baumish government said that it is working to find a solution and considering a Romancian referendum on independence.

Since the shooting incident, Najimam chose the wait and see approach. 2023 came by and there is no real progress from the Baumish government, hence why foreign minister Rawi Hikaya made a brief statement today:
The right to self-determination is fundamental and must be protected. Najimam stands with Romancians in their struggle for freedom and independence, and we call on the Baumish government to respect their right to vote in the independence referendum.

Baumes is the biggest trade partner of Najimam, which is what left many people wondering why Najimam is supporting Romancia all of a sudden. Diplomacy expert Sajid Ayn says that this move came as a result of Baumes refusing to drop its neutral status in the Nisri-Esterazian crisis and continuing to do trade with Esterazdravo and its ally Vacrus. He adds that the government of Najimam is not pleased with the stance of Baumes and is indirectly pressuring its government in many ways to support the Theocracy and its allies. It is to be seen if Baumes will finally listen and drop its neutrality in the near future.

As for Romancia, the situation continues to escalate. It is clear that the Romancian struggle for self-determination has gained widespread support from the international community. Whether this will be enough to force the Baumish government to change its stance remains to be seen, but Romancians are determined to fight for their rights more than ever with Najimam on their side.

1st Edition of 2023, Early January

The disappointing Azulonze

08th of January
Great Varga Stadium, Saundesh

The recent two games played within the schedule of the IFAF Western Isles Cup, the biggest stage when it comes to football, can only be described as utterly disappointing. Down three points now to the advancing second place it seems almost impossible that the Azulonze will secure a place in the Round of 16. This would mean another defeat in the first round and not only that but the third one in a row. Looking back the team performed horribly in the CEFA Cup and managed to win only one game in the last IFAF Cup of 2022 about a year ago.
With fans shocked by the terrible performance of the team, it raises questions whether or not the uprean team is even able to compete at such a high level. With defeat after defeat and even after reshaping the team after the CEFA Cup the Azulonze was not able to prove doubters wrong in this tournament.
Sports Analyst Fernan Porcelo on the recent performance of the team:
Looking at the games, it seems the offense is clearly not the problem. Despite a lack of goals being scored by the team, the offense is always active. However the offense can only be effective with a good defense. The young age of the players and the inexperience that comes with that can be felt in almost every player. There is no stability, no effective plays being made. I believe a change of management could help the team tremendously. Head Coach Bares must step back or be relieved of his duties if this team wants to compete in tournaments like this in the future.

The trend in media seems to strongly support the take that Head Coach Bares's guidance has not been beneficial to the team. There has yet to be a statement released and there wont likely be until the tournament is over.
Fans in Uprea clearly seem upset with their teams performance and we can only wait how the last game of the First Round of the IFAF Cup will play out for Uprea. Facing against Yursea, who currently sits at the two spot with a goal difference of four, the odds clearly are not in favor of the Azulonze.
