Parliament to Debate on Belantica Joining the ROS
This week on the legislative docket, the Parliament will have a debate whether or not to pursue membership within the Raelon Organization of States (ROS). It is scheduled to begin Tuesday, and likely to take up that entire session, with the goal of having a decision made by the end of next week. Despite the debate not officially started, MPs are already taking sides on to support or oppose this motion. Currently, the Liberal-Conservative coalition government has made it clear that they are in favor of joining the ROS. One Tory MP saying that "this presents our nation with the opportunity to further strengthen the bonds with our neighbors in Raedlon, to create a more integrated economic system, and to provide new measures of defense and security". In addition, the Social Democrat Party and the Labor Party have also expressed some support.

However, there is still several camps that have voice criticisms and opposition to joining the ROS, most notably the New Liberals, the Communists, and the far-right BUP. The New Liberals have stated that "Joining the ROS will only feed the neoliberal ideas of this country and further push an agenda that only favors the rich and major corporations," one New Liberal MP said, "in order to really place our country in a better position, the Parliament, and the Queen, and should reject the idea of joining this globalist organization, but still find ways to promote regional cooperation at the national level." The leader of the Communists has stated that the ROS "only hinders the revolution" and that "the people of our country have the right to self rule, free of globalist organizations, as they stop the global revolution in it's tracks by forcing nations and their peoples to be bound to organizational red tape that really only serves the interests of the elites." The BUP has made a statement that joining the ROS will "show that the current government is a bunch of sell-outs, who don't care about our nation's right to self rule and determination. It's handing over the keys to our nation for foreigners to dictate how we live and conduct our lives. Such international lies should be rejected by the true patriots of this fine nation, and we should continue to forge our own path."

The Throngists have not made a statement on this debate, as support for their causes has been falling rapidly due to OSS infiltration and many of their ideals already being supported by other major parties. Queen Katherine has not made a statement either, and it is suspected that she intends to let Parliament make a decision without hinderance. Stay tuned as we'll have the answer that Parliament created by Friday.

Littolyen Military ‘All In’ on Drones

Postby Littolyo » Sun Mar 27, 2022 2:46 pm

2022 March 27
Littolyen Military ‘All In’ on Drones

Halmouth, Andersen State—On a pleasant March morning, the mayor of this small city in Andersen State stood at a lectern between Secretary of Defense Raul Forters and CEO Randal Gunnings, Jr. of the Seari Corporation, Littolyo’s largest defense contractor. Behind them, a grassy field strewn with construction equipment. Before them, a retinue of journalists and cameras.

Over the coming year, Secretary Forters announced, this field would become the sprawling new factory where Seari will produce variants of its supersonic Halo drone, an advanced ‘unmanned aerial combat platform’ whose core components will be adapted to meet a diverse array of needs across at least four military service branches. When production enters full-swing by mid-2024, the military expects a dozen Halos to be rolling off the production line every month.

The morning’s events were presaged by the passage of the Air Advancements Act three years ago, which dramatically reoriented the future of air combat for the Littolyen military. Under the law, which was negotiated between two presidential administrations, the military’s top brass, and scores of senators, Littolyo took the unconventional tack of cutting funding for its advanced fighter jet programs to invest in a next generation of drones.

Seari won the bid for that new drone with the Halo program, the centerpiece of which will be an unmanned, stealth fighter jet meant to complement the nation’s existing fleet of manned fighters well into the 21st century. The Halo will also be adapted to other roles, including ground attack, electronic warfare, and reconnaissance.

Canceling—or, as the military insists, ‘pausing’—procurement of the nation’s 5th generation Viper fighter jets after an investment of more than $40 billion has not been without controversy.

“I just don’t get it,” said one senator. “To cancel the Viper with less than a fifth of the production run completed seems about as wise as flushing 32 billion taxpayer dollars down the toilet.”

Similarly, the Advancements Act slashed funding for work on the nation’s 6th generation fighter program—an undertaking that’s been ongoing for years—in order to invest those funds in the Halo program and related developments.

“In a good number of ways, the Halo will have or be ready to receive capabilities that meet or exceed those of a manned 6th generation fighter,” said Mr. Gunnings, the Seari CEO. “But the beauty of the platform is that it can also be dumbed down to serve in a variety of roles where those capabilities aren’t needed, saving money and lives by keeping Littolyen troops out of direct combat.”

While the details of the Halo program remain secret, the military has confirmed that four prototypes have flown: two fighters, one bomber, and one reconnaissance model. An electronic warfare model, airborne early warning and control model, and a “battlefield communications node” model remain under development.

Former Chief of the Nationalist Gendemarie Dies in Prison

PAEDIN --- Ashal Canned, 79, has died in prison following a physical altercation with another inmate. Canned formerly served as the Chief of the Gendarmerie for the nationalist military from 1973 until 1986 and was convicted for his crimes against humanity in 1991. Canned led the infamous "Judas Battalion" of the nationalist military which was in charge of policing cities in Scaedia that experienced severe unrest during the civil war. During his tenure, more than 200 civilians were executed under suspicions of treasonous activity by the Gendarmerie. Canned was not only a high ranking officer of the nationalist military, but held a powerful position in the Scaedic Nationalist Party. His brutal methods of law enforcement earned him the nickname "the Butcher of Bejorn."

A tribunal found him guilty of several crimes in 1991 and focused a great deal on the civilian body count under his command. Among his crimes were the torture of several prisoners of war who were stripped of their clothes, beaten, and forced to march through the streets of their recently captured cities. Among his peers in the Scaedic Nationalist Party Canned was viewed as a brutal sadist, and even before foreign intervention ended the nationalist rule of Scaedia there were plans to court martial him for his actions towards civilians.

Canned was sentenced to life with no chance for parole and served most of his sentence in the Paedin Supermax Detention Center. Most of his thirty year sentence was served in protective custody, though he was taken out of segregated housing after a 2016 bill prohibited the isolation of prisoners in solitary confinement. Canned spent most of his time in communal housing peacefully, becoming friends with several other inmates who also served in the nationalist military. He was briefly taken out of the detention center following a health scare earlier this year.

Reports from the prison indicate that a physical altercation between Canned and another prisoner took place earlier this week. Guards state that the altercation began over a card game where Canned allegedly got frustrated and stormed out of the recreation area. Later that night, the guards heard screaming from Canned's cell and found that his cellmate had bashed his head against the cinderblock walls. Canned was rushed to the Paedin Memorial Hospital, however he quickly succumbed to his injuries on the way there.

Scaedic Government to Mandate Foreign Language Classes in Primary School Curricula

ALLIN --- The Ministry of Education has released its updated requirements for curricula for 2023 and in it has declared that all students in the Republic of Scaedia must take a foreign language class starting at Year 3. This expands previous education requirements, which only mandated that Secondary Schools offer optional foreign language classes. Foreign language learning in state schools have been notoriously underfunded and understaffed, particularly in rural northern areas. While many in the educational field have expressed their approval for the new requirements, conservatives have disapproved of the mandated classes.

Traditionally, foreign language learning was frowned upon at Scaedic state schools. Early state schools in the Kingdom of Scaedia would allow exceptional students to learn a second language, typically Solaryi, but after the spread of the Scaedic Nationalist Party foreign language learning was viewed as not only unnecessary but as something to actively be discouraged. Nationalists believed that children had no need to learn a non-Scaedic language and removed it from all state curricula.

Opponents to the new education requirements are not all conservatives. Many rural educators worry that they will be unable to adequately teach young students a foreign language and consequently not reach educational quotas. Homeschooling advocates also worry that adding foreign language studies to the requirements will force parents to re-enter their students into the state school system despite their disapproval. Online classes are also not an option for many in the most rural areas of Scaedia, where electricity is not always reliable let alone high-speed internet access. To remedy concerns over understaffing, many schools have begun offering high-paying positions to foreigners who speak Scaedic.

6 Dead, 9 Injured in Air Force Training Accident

DAN --- A plane crash in the 8th Air Base of the Scaedic Air Force has killed 6 soldiers in the Scaedic Air Force and injured 9. Among those injured were high-ranking officers, including Major Solmun Tsanned who was killed on impact. The aircraft, which was used to transport the soldiers to the air base, crashed on its approach to the base's runway. Several factors are believed to have contributed to the crash, though the Scaedic Defense Force has yet to begin a full investigation into the cause.

The Scaedic Defense Force has announced plans for a state funeral to commemorate the 6 who died. President Ashi Banglar has also announced his intentions to erect a memorial to the deceased in the city of Dan.

The Border Troops of the Throngist Republic of Lesva, a subordinate of the Ministry of the Interior of the Throngist Republic of Lesva, is holding drills, which are meant to test the effectiveness of border protection. The drills, which are testing overall border protection, are also testing not only effective border control and border patrol, but also the defense and security of the borders including in extreme situations. This would include protecting the borders using firearms, like in the case of a foreign attack or invasion, before the police or the armed forces could intervene and take over the defense. The drills are primarily focusing on the defense of land and maritime borders by the Border Troops of the Throngist Republic of Lesva. Minister of the Interior of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Grai Pagen is present at the drills and is observing them. The Interior Minister plans to observe all of them and to the end. Reportedly, the border drills will also be testing the control of the situation in the case of not only hypothetical military scenarios, but also naturally disasters and refugee crises. Minister of the Interior Grai Pagen has declared that currently the situation on Lesva's borders are stable and there are no national security threats, however, the state structures must always be prepared.

RFID Minichips soon to be offered to citizens

The Radio-Frequency IDentification technology is finally here! The confederational government announced that in the next months will be conducting experiments and testing together with private corporations to distribute the chips to all population of Veleste. Many people will find the technology both convenient and easy to use as you only need to approximate your hand to provide various informations in order to pay, access public and private transportations, open your house, and more!

Concerns about safety have been discarded as biased and not based on relevant data as numerous tests show that the chip is completely safe to be injected and NFC cards are almost as vulnerable as the chips are in the matters of NFC thieving. The chips however can be more safe as payments can only be done if the hand palm is on the reciever, on the contrast of Labour Note Cards that both sides are transmittable.

The General Council is pondering if the new technology must be voted in order to be distributed, many councilors are suggesting that the chip implants shall not be mandatory and only offered to those who wishes to use them. Other councilors are debating against the chips as they imply that Labour Note Cards already do most of what the new technology provides.

Scientists affiliated with the project estimates that by Q3 2022 the final testings will be concluded and the RFID will be ready to be manufactured and distributed. What about you? Do you think this new asset will make your routine easier? Tell us more in the comments below!

Proposed Bill to Impose Term Limits for Hang Reached Deliberation

Image
Tinilarahangtama, the building where Kilat's unicameral parliament assembled.

AMANTAPURNA - The bills, dubbed Hangakang or the “Pausing Hang” in reference to its aim in limiting the Hang’s terms of office, finally entered discussion on Tinilarahang, Kilat’s unicameral legislature. The bills, long left on uncertainties since its introduction in 2020, finally found necessary support to move it forward, with bipartisan support from both the ruling Kilat People’s Party and opposition Fair Democratic Party.

Prime Minister of Kilat, T'oto K’udang, said this is a historic movement in modern Kilat history, to move forward as a democratic nation.

“The era of elected-until-death Hang is a relic of the past, from a millennia before. This is what people need, from the 1960s,” K’udang said, referring to the short period where the Hang was directly elected by the people for five-year terms. It ended in a self-coup by Hang Kunini in 1967, restoring the olden law.

The Hangakang bills has now entered deliberation period for a month in Tinilarahang, which afterwards will move to Histimava ra Tini or the Special Session, since it required two-third majority to amend the 1900 Constitution.

The Hang provided no further comment, saying ‘the legislature is the people’s voice and i will respect its decisions’.

Behind closed doors, it is rumoured that the Hang itself is supportive of the bill after a meeting with K’udang.

The bill, if passed, would mark the first constitutional amendment in twenty years and a profound change in Kilat political system. Historically, the Hang were elected for life by the Chief’s Council. This changed with the Rose Revolution in 1898, where in place of the dissolved Chief’s Council, the people would directly elect the Hang, who would in turn appoint the Prime Minister to form a cabinet tasked with the day-to-day running of the nation.

Office of Ministry of Environment investigated for Negligent Action

28th of March 2022
Vasca, Federal Republic of Uprea

Six Months after the Volcano Eruption of Volcano Acedio, the Ministry of Environment alongside the Minister of Environment Dr. Lia Zamorano are being investigated after claims of negligence towards the growing threat of a volcano eruption. According to the prosecutors advisements from scientists and other experts were allegiantly being ignored and downplayed following up the months until the eventual eruption.
The investigation has now been made public after a judge held the gathered evidence to be sufficient enough to order for all documents and other potential data to be collected by the police for further evaluation. This order has now been carried out in form of a raid being conducted in the ministry in order to secure all potential evidence.
Minister of Environment Dr. Lia Zamorano on the allegations:
In our opinion, we reacted in a appropriate timeframe, however we will fully cooperate with this investigation. We have nothing to hide and I take full responsibility for any made mistakes that this investigation could possibly uncover.

Minister of Environment Dr. Lia Zamorano has been under heavy fire from critics with her way of handling the Volcano Crisis and with her taking any possible guilt this investigation may or may not uncover it is expected for her to step down from her office should the investigation find compelling evidence of negligence.
For now one simply has to wait for the gathered data to be evaluated.

Government responds to Lesvan Accusations of Insufficient Political Education

23rd of March 2022
Port Lesrell, Federal Republic of Uprea

After recent allegations made by the Lesvan Government regarding the upcoming Uprean State Elections several members of Uprean Government, including the Minister of the Interior, have spoken out about said statements. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Terr Curso stated that he suspected there to be an undercover government-sponsored Anti-Throngist Propaganda campaign happening in Uprea impeding on the political freedom Uprea prides itself on. According to him the citizens of Uprea have not had the chance to be "appropriately educated" on the ideology of Throngism.
Minister of the Interior Lucas Flores in a press release:
Uprea is proud to be a nation that offers its citizens the widest range possible when it comes to the expression for political opinions. Our schools do not "educate" our children on one specific party or ideology, rather we provide information about the Uprean Government System, the different stances different parties have on various topics and how historical governments have worked in the past. We also teach about international politics and how foreign governments are functioning. In doing so we guarantee that everyone is able to find inspiration for a political opinion on a international level. Furthermore the parties themselves are allowed to present themselves according to their values and goals to the public. We provide all the pointers our citizens need, for them to create their own unimpaired political opinion.

The Minister went further into detail, explaining how Uprea is open to criticism, if there are actual improvements necessary in the department of political education, but simple accusation with no sound arguments for them, will not trigger a reevaluation. Uprean Citizens are free to express any non-democracy threatening political opinion. If that is simply not the case, it is not because of a failed education but by the will of the Uprean People.
Our International Affairs and Politics Expert Alberto Dantas on the statement of Lesvan Minister of Foreign Affairs Terr Curso:
One can definitely say that no one expected the statement from the Lesvan Official to get something out of the Uprean Government but apparently it has. To make a statement like this as a government official with not even the slightest indication of evidence pointing towards a government cover-up of Anti-Throngism Propaganda simply lacks professionalism.
It shows that when directly confronted the Uprean Government does not hold back on answering and while the non-involvement in many international affairs may have been seen as an indication by foreign governments, that one can simply say anything and get away with it, this will certainly show different.

In Other News:
- RFID Chips to be offered to citizens of Veleste.
- Lesva holds military drill for border troops.
- Scaedian Government mandates Foreign Language Classes in Primary Schools.

POLITICS Delacroix wins his first political victory
The success of the newly approved Civic Service will boost the Chairman's popularity, as well as improving the capabilities of the Laedenian state

In a fantastic display of political power and prestige, the newly sworn in as Chairman of the Senate, Gaston Delacroix, managed to put a bill of his own for a Senate vote. The law introduced by Delacroix, which was passed with an absolute majority of the house, institutes Compulsory Civic Service in Laeden. Replacing the old Mandatory Military Service, abolished in Laeden since the 1990s, the new Civic Service will serve as a way for young Laedenians to contribute constructively to the nation through the performance of important social functions, integrating them with their communities and helping the Laedenian government to offer quality services with the necessary scope to meet the volume of social demands.

Upon turning 18, young Laedenians will be offered the opportunity to carry out Civic Service. They will work in public agencies, in roles of assistance, attendance, collaboration and assistance to regular civil servants. They will be able to perform tasks such as helping in secretariats, working as drivers, assisting in cleaning services, scanning physical documents, serving the public in person or by phone, or even by virtual means. They will be able to assist in the management of media and social networks or even participate in teams of employees who carry out external work. Young people with specific skills, such as knowledge in mechanics, electrical or other areas of technical knowledge, can be used to work on tasks that are more suited to their knowledge.

During this Service, young people will have access to instruction of a varied nature, including home economics, first aid, basic introduction to Laeden's laws, leadership, creativity and innovation, entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution techniques, cooking and nutrition and of self defense. Young people with physical aptitude and mental preparation will also be able to carry out the Civic Service in emergency units or in the Fire Departments, in order to assist in search, rescue and disaster response services. Other partner entities, such as Non-Governmental Organizations, non-profit companies and the Catholic Church, may receive young people from the Civic Service to perform specific tasks according to their interests and aptitudes.

In the case of young people who have been approved for higher education, the Civic Service may be postponed so that it is completed only at the end of college. This option is available to those who enroll in courses in the health area, such as medicine, dentistry, nursing and pharmacy, and they are offered the opportunity to perform the Civic Service in medical care at health posts and hospitals. In the case of law students, graduates will be able to fulfill their Civic Service as legal assistants in courts, courts and, especially, in free legal services for people with financial limitations. Students in Pedagogy courses, and in areas related to science, will be able to perform the Civic Service in the form of teaching assistants, contributing to the improvement of basic education in the country.

All young people who perform the Civic Service are remunerated with a minimum wage for the duration of their service, with this remuneration being doubled in the case of those who perform the service after the end of university education. Participants who show good performance may be offered vacancies in the bodies where they worked, to act as apprentices during a probationary period of 2 years, after which they may be hired as full servants, thus offering real job opportunities to young people who demonstrate interest and willingness to fulfill their civic services. On the other hand, youths who voluntarily enlist in the Armed Forces will be exempt from civic service.

The creation of the Civic Service represents an important political victory for Delacroix. The project, which was very well received by Laedenian society and sectors of the civil service, will certainly be an important political banner for Delacroix and a attractor of public support for his more ambitious future projects. On the other hand, the improvement that this measure will cause in the provision of public services in Laeden will be considerable, in addition to allowing the country's young people to finish school with concrete job prospects and having professional experience, in addition to contributing constructively. and positive for their communities.

POLITICS The Barbet Case is finally concluded
After much deliberation, Laeden's highest court has finally published its decision regarding the controversial case of torture

After much controversy, the notorious Barbet Case has finally reached its conclusion. The Supreme Court, after a trial lasting more than a week, finally ruled that the use of torture as an investigative technique, even in situations of concrete threat to the lives of others, violates the Laeden Constitution. The majority chose to follow the decision of the rapporteur of the case, Justice Alphenor.

In his decision, Alphenor declared that “In a republican and democratic environment, guided by respect for the laws, public agents, in the exercise of their institutional function, cannot, under any circumstances, resort to extra-legal solutions in order to facilitate the performance of their duties. functions. An inseparable element of republicanism is the rule of law, so that the way public agents act must be, in all aspects, strictly guided by obedience and circumscription to legality”.

Justice Demas followed Alphenor, adding that “We must resist at all times the temptation to give in to the will, and to employ violent and authoritarian means, even under the aegis of apparently just motives. Any relativization of barbarism and intransigence represents a real danger for our republic. If, in the case under analysis, the means of investigation did not allow the rescue of the kidnapped, it is imperative that our State invest in more sophisticated means of investigation, instead of resorting to torture and other vile means, which no longer have space in our society".

Leading the divergence, Justice Casper argued that safeguarding the kidnap victim's right to life justified, in this exceptional case, the relativization of the criminal's fundamental rights. “The Constitution, the laws, and the Law as a whole, are allographic institutes, which require the hermeneutic activity of the interpreter. In this case, it is necessary to consider the conflicting rights and decide, obviously, in favor of public agents who, faced with a moral decision, chose the path that best preserved the rights at risk of violation”.

Despite the decision, the Court understood that the inspector and the prosecutor involved could not be held responsible for the conduct. This is because, even though torture was declared incompatible with Laedenian law, the Justices understood that public agents were faced with an extreme situation, and were forced to make a moral choice within an extremely short period of time, with the goal of saving a life. The agents' motivation, and the novelty of the legal case, were taken into account by the Justices to decide that the defendants could not suffer sanctions for having acted in the most moral and fair way they could find.

To make the two different interpretations compatible, the Court chose to modulate the effects of its decision. As a result, the decision to declare torture unconstitutional and incompatibility with the national legal system takes effect exclusively ex nunc, that is, it takes effect only for future situations, not being applicable to acts that occurred in the past, as in the case barbet. As a result, the Court managed to reconcile the two different positions that divided Laedenian society in recent days. On the one hand, the act of torture received an official reprimand from the highest Laedenian Court. On the other hand, public agents leave innocent and without receiving any punishment.

The Imperial Times
Holy Serpentian Empire

Imperial Minister Sunniva Leads A New, Modern Regime

It was only a small number months ago when Lady Sunniva became a member of the Parliament of the Holy Serpentian Empire. She has since become the most powerful individual in Serpentia after Her Imperial Majesty Empress Nereida III herself, as her Imperial Minister; almost completely reformed the government, forcing a number ministers to resign and appointing new ministers to replace them; substantially improved Serpentia's national productivity; and intends to publicise our nation primarily through our youth and technology known as the internet, which is now being taught about in schools and universities.

Imperial Minister Sunniva had stated the following in Parliament: 'The internet is a most valuable technology for us to adopt. Now, I'm not saying that everyone should use the internet: we'll restrict its use to those who were taught about the internet as youth, anyone else with an internet license, and members of Parliament. Of course, unless they're the Imperial Minister or the Empress, we'll closely monitor the internet activity of each and every citizen to ensure that everyone acts responsibly. Now, Her Imperial Majesty is somewhat unpopular with her older, more conservative subjects, being more liberal than her predecessors; conversely, she is rather popular with our younger, more liberal youth.

Adopting the internet would only strengthen Her Imperial Majesty's popularity: she'd be like a modern celebrity. Not only would this be beneficial for the monarchy, but it would be beneficial for our entire nation, because do you know what modern celebrities have a lot of? That's right, influence. And influence on social media can do a lot: if Her Imperial Majesty asks her followers – and following Her Imperial Majesty on Twitter will be mandatory for all citizens with internet access – to share Serpentia's beauty with the rest of the world, her followers will boost tourism in our nation and consequently, our economy. Isn't this a win-win situation?'

Earlier today, Her Imperial Majesty posted a tweet encouraging her followers to 'share Serpentia's beauty with the rest of the world'. Imperial Minister Sunniva's most vocal critic – Leader of the Azure Party and former Imperial Minister Guinevere – had the following response: 'I'm most concerned about Her Majesty's reputation. I'm not so concerned about her more liberal attitudes, but damage control will be a lot more difficult if Her Imperial Majesty continues doing what Imperial Minister Sunniva is currently allowing – no, encouraging – her to do. The Imperial Minister should care for Her Imperial Majesty, not exploit Her Imperial Majesty...'

The Leader of the Chartreuse Party – Lady Matilda – expressed mixed feelings about recent developments: 'Well, I like the idea of showcasing our wonder weapons to the rest of the world to intimidate our enemies, but I'm worried about leaks: it'd be a catastrophe if someone uploaded our secret blueprints online... What? No, it has absolutely nothing to do with the recently leaked photograph of me posing nude with a super-heavy tank.' Meanwhile, the Leader of the Rose Party – Lady Meraud – appeared to express support: 'As Imperial Minister Sunniva is a member of my own party, I support her wholeheartedly as a matter of principle.'

Will Imperial Minister Sunniva become venerated as the greatest Imperial Minister in Serpentian history? Will Her Imperial Majesty Empress Nereida III become a world-renowned celebrity? Will Lady Guinevere reclaim her former position as Imperial Minister? Will people never stop talking about Lady Matilda's leaked nude? And how does Lady Meraud truly feel about another member of her own party being the Imperial Minister? Only time will tell, so don't forget to read the next edition of The Imperial Times.

The armed forces of the Aprosian People's Democratic Union, the Federation of Balnik and the Throngist Republic of Lesva have begun a military exercise in the Tamín Islands (Tamín Adenátud), Aprosian People's Democratic Union. The island are to the north of the mainland. This is officially the second joint military exercise by the Eastern Tripartite and the second drill being conducted under the flag of the alliance. Even though it is large scale, this exercise is more focused on the specific branch of the military and on specific objectives or types of missions that this kind of branch can conduct. The exercise is dedicated to marine training and encompasses a simulation and training of all possible combat and non-combat missions that the marines can partake in under all conditions. The Throngist Movement Party of Lesva has sent Minister of the Lesvan Armed Forces Noie Verant and Chief of the General Staff of the Lesvan Armed Forces Lieutenant General Cito Pacaita to the Northern Islands, Aprosian People's Democratic Union to observe the exercise on the behalf of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva and the Throngist Republic of Lesva. Meanwhile, First Secretary of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva Pacton Inca has extended an invation to the Leaders, as well as defense, military and foreign affairs officials of the Aprosian People's Democratic Union and the Federation of Balnik to come to the Throngist Republic of Lesva whenever it is convienient to them and as many times as they please.

  • Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Terr Curso: "We would like to believe that there is no anti-Throngist conspiracy or "passive aggressive" propaganda campaign against Throngism in Uprea, however, given the international tendencies we have observed with how the ideology has been negatively fought against in many countries, we cannot rule out at least the proposal or a theory that a similar situation might be present in Uprea, except it might be more effectively covered up. We would like to believe that Uprea upholds the principals it declares about political and ideological liberties, but there is scepticism."

The National Informer
Liberal Democratic Calum Galloway wins unprecedented 4th term as Prime Minister!

Image
The Prime Minister seen celebrating with supporters outside his private apartment in Yukcaster.

15 years we've had Calum Galloway as Prime Minister, never in our wildest dreams would we have guessed that voters would return him back to Yukcaster with a clear majority for another 5 years. A phenomenon dubbed the "Calum effect" by Yursean political scientists has seen the Prime Minister easily slide past critics and what they claim largely not change the public's opinion of the Prime Minister. Heading into the 2022 Parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Calum Galloway represented the Liberal Democratic Party versus Conservative Party Leader Wilson Jarod. Wilson was part of the new generation finally entering politics, many saw him as the man needed to break down the Nolan Machine. Though it appears that through a solid list of policy's and good charm, the Yursean people have given the Prime Minister another term and the majority needed to pass whatever the PM deems necessary.

As things start to go back to normal, Conservative Leader Wilson Jarod will settle into his position as Leader of the opposition. He has pledged to stop the PM's agenda by whatever means he has at his disposal. That agenda includes some of the following laid out through the campaign season by the Liberal Democratic Party; reductions in taxes, investments in green energy, increases to access to abortion in rural regions, new government program for monthly income to all citizens, legalization of marijuana. PM Nolan said that these programs are just some of his popular proposals needed to bring Yursea into the 21th century. Judging by his popularity ratings and the big re-election he was just given, we're going to have to agree with the PM here.

Other News:
  • Grumbling heard in military circles as Conservative Party Leader Wilson Jarod loses against PM.
  • Can PM Nolan really keep his promise to decrease national security taxes used for Military?
  • What to know about the 2022 election results and how they will effect your liveihood.

The Mishian Observer

6th, April, 2022
Ratification of the Kirsdoff Protocol to be voted on at the end of the month

The Lower House confirmed today that the vote to ratify the Kirsdoff Protocol will be undertaken on the 25th of April, after the Executive Department informed the Lower House of it's upcoming legislative agenda. The scheduling has happened quickly mainly due to the importance of the discussion and to capitalise on te issue being in the national conscience. Environmental activist groups have praised the decision to hold a decisive vote, hoping that the government can for full the legally binding promise it made 2 years ago. Some groups have criticised the late scheduling and want it to be pushed forward to as soon as possible, others are also wary of the fact that the protocol has failed to be ratified in the past and caused more division and bickering in the Lower House. The Lower House failed to pass the proposal in 2017,2018 and 2019. Only in 2020 after the elections did it finally manage to vote and pass the promise that the protocol would be signed in 2 years time. If that were to happen, it would be seen as a way of undoing the past 5 years of inaction. Head of the Lower House Sergej Balvivic of the Democratic Socialist Party of TotoMishin said that he fully supports the protocol and wants to see it applied with TotoMishin. The Environmentalist and Green Party have also called for staunch support of the bill and were seen to rallying votes among various parties throughout last week. The Minister of the Environment Michalik Pobergdin (Social Democratic) said "We must ensure it passes, to miss such an opportunity now would be fatal for the people's trust in our government".

Minister of Education approves proposal to send teachers to Scaedia

After the Scaedian government's announcement that foreign language learning would be mandatory across the country, Minister of Education Sergej Tuchan drafted a proposal along with the Ministry of Education to send 40 foreign language teachers to teach Mishian in Scaedia. The measure has been approved and will wait the response of the Scaedian government before the teachers can be sent off. The teachers will all be teaching Mishian and are expected to be posted in primary schools to secondary schools. Basics such as grammar, alphabet and basic vocabulary will be taught as well as more advanced lessons. The Teacher's Association has commented that this is a good policy in establishing a regional framework for learning Mishian and will increase interest for both the language and the country. The move will also potentially encourage an increase in future immigration from Scaedia to TotoMishin, something that employers are happy about as the Mishian economy and businesses become ever more diverse. Minor criticism has been levied at the fact that none of the native languages will be taught such as Turzak and Imgradian and the fact that Mishian English won't be either. Minister of Education responded : " First of all, I think that teaching English is a bad idea. We already have enough countries that speak English, there is no need to export our own brand of it. We need more people to be speaking and be interested in speaking Mishian right now". He did not comment on the status of the native languages.

As it seems the United Liberal Democrats once again hold almost all off the Secretary Positions, as well as most majorities in the state parliaments.
With most of the majorities in the States the ULD are expected to achieve most of their goals set out in their election campaign, as they have over these past years and as described in our issue from Early March.
Noticeable is the absence of any lesvan influenced Party in form of a Throngism Party for Uprea, even in the Parties attracting less than 1% in the voting period (not listed here).
In the last weeks tensions rose, when the Lesvan Minister for Foreign Affairs Terr Curso made statements, accusing the Uprean Government of Coverups in order to repress any Throngist Movements. Even though these claims had no legitimate evidence to back up such statements, the government responded ahead of the election.
Our International Affairs and Politics Expert Alberto Dantas on the election results:
This election really bears no surprise at all. The fact that the Liberal Democrats hold the majority in the country will also not likely change in the coming years. Their popularity is simply too overwhelming for that.

Voting Results for the Position of Secretary of State:

The PCC have switched their Secretary Position after they were not satisfied by the performance of Joaquim Melo these past four years. There are therefore two new faces in two different states in Uprea in the position of Secretary of State, with Tiago Duarte-Aguiar taking over the position from his fellow colleague Edgar Rosa, after he announced his retirement prior to the election.
Once again the Liberal Democrats come out victorious in this election and give a little taste of what the national election for parliament and the presidential election in two years could look like. Continuing on the great efforts made by several Secretarys of State during their term, like for example Donato Gama and his handling of the volcano crisis, helps the ULD tremendously and helps stabilizing them in the position as the favorite party of many Upreans.
But not only the ULD has reason to celebrate. As the PCC hold on to their Secretary Spot in Carbon Hills and the GPU hold onto theirs in Ibon, they give the ULD much to worry about in retaining their percentile of over 50% of the seats in the parliament. As of right now one can only speculate about the outcome of the next election, for now, one can once again conclude a very successful election with a voter participation mark of over 82 percent.

In other News:
- TotoMishin to discuss Ratification of Kirsdoff Protocol.
- Dax Nolan wins election and will start his 4th term as Prime Minister of Yursea.
- Joint Military Exercise by Balnik, Aprosia and Lesva in Tamin Islands

Rice Growing in Shirojima: A labour of love and tradition

Image

Rice is, undoubtedly, the backbone of Utounese cuisine. Where in other countries, this grain is seen merely as a base, a tasteless staple to be accentuated by sauces and other ingredients. Not so in Utou, where the art of riziculture is elevated to an art form. And if Utou is a haven for high grade rice, Shirojima is the undisputed paradise for this supposedly simple grain. On the slopes of the small inland island, more than three strains of rice grow. Jinmin Nippō went to the island in order to explore the history and traditions which have guided rice cultivation over the last thousands of years.

The first cultivation of rice on Shirojima occured in the Terminal Ashika period, as interactions between the increasingly sedentary Ashika peoples and wild rice grasses resulted in increasingly more domesticated rice. The gentle slopes and frequent rainfall of the island left it fertile, allowing a large population to grow. Shirojima was densely populated for the time, hosting some of the first real towns in the area. Throughout the early medieval period, the Ōgimachi clan were the strongest power in southern Utou and one of the few Utounese Daimyō to remain independent from the Jambubol Empire in the north. Their citadel at Ōtsu was never taken by a foreign force.

However, despite the great power politics the island's feudal lords were engaging in, the people of the island were more or less unconcerned and focused on the cultivation of rice. One of the most devout areas in the country, Shirojima was the heart of the Kodō faith movement, seeing a rise of lay devotion during the medieval period. As the Ōgimachi clan's influence waned, it became more exacting on the peasantry, generating strong opposition. A tax on the clergy was the tipping point, leading to the first of many large peasant rebellions. The Peasant armies organised themselves into localised parochial communes, with poetry from this period celebrating the equal distribution of rice and other goods. This localised communalism is often heralded as the first occurence of the "white left", religiously-inspired revolts advocating asceticism and proto-socialist distribution of resources.

Though feudal control was eventually restored upon Shirojima, the peasantry was forever resistant having obtained a taste for freedom, and the feudal lords had to respect this if they wished to remain in power. Many of the Jinja on the island bore white banners with black writing that proclaimed "no sovereign but that of heaven", declaring their direct alliegence to the Utounese emperor whose powers were purely metaphysical. With more freedom than other peasants in the country, the Shirojimans refined the growing of rice for their own sake as a sort of religious duty, living by the Kodō precepts of simplicity of life and peace with nature. They built an advanced network of terraces, which is still seen as a wonder of the period. Jan van den Beek, the first Doraltic consul to visit the Island in 1740, was similarly impressed by the feeling of peace and love that he found on there.

The events of the early 20th century were keenly felt in Shirojima. When the Shimotsuki League of radical reformers siezed power in 1921 and attempted to overthrow the feudal regimes, this was initially greeted with great enthousiasm on Shirojima. Ōtsu, the capital of the prefecture, was a hotbed of republican activism, led by the anarchist Katsumi Toshi who was himself an ordained Kodō priest. These expectations were to be subverted, however, as following the Shimotsuki victory the country was opened up to domination by the forces of capital. The heritage of Shirojima rice cultivation was attacked by cheaper rice imported from elsewhere, damaging local economies. As the first civil war began with the Hakuro rising of disaffected former Samurai, Shirojima saw violence in the streets. Though this revolution was quelled, the embers of dissent remained. Katsumi himself fled Shirojima, meeting up with Nishiyama Satori and other revolutionary thinkers in Kurohama. It was here, following consultations with Ipachi socialists, that the decision was taken to launch the uprising. Katsumi would return to Shirojima, but was arrested and killed by government forces, triggering the riots which some hold to have began the Utounese Revolution. From the start, the White League of Redemption was one of the core members of the United Mass Front which would eventually carry the day.

Since the revolution, the Shirojiman people have been in control of their own land. An agreement signed between the White League's leadership and Nishiyama explicitly granted them the self-management of their paddies, with their model of experimental collectivism through co-operative farming swiftly gaining traction in other areas of the country. Even at the heights of revolutionary fervour, Shirojimans remained loyal to their revolution and their new privileges, adopting modern technologies for agriculture only when it had been seen elsewhere. In the election on the status of socialist rule in Utou, Shirojima was one of the strongest supporters of maintaining the United Masses Front with 87% of the population voting in favour.

It would be easy to dismiss Shirojima as a backwater, but to do so would be woefully untrue. Shirojima is at the forefront of research, with Ōtsu Technical University a leader in agricultural studies piloting numerous studies including cutting-edge meteorology and water resource management research. Its cities are highly pedestrianised and public transport is reliable, with Shirojima set to declare personal-car-free status for the whole prefecture. Shirojima is a challenge to modern rhetorics of capitalist development, encouraging the world to live in harmony with nature and enjoy life's simple pleasures. It is a rising tourism hotspot, as flocks of tourists embrace the slow life and view some of the most well-preserved traditions of the Isles.

As one might imagine, Shirojima's cuisine is centred upon rice and soybeans. Many of the population eschew meat and fish, which has led to a unique vegetarian cuisine employing soy sauce and eggs in a variety of ways. It is the largest per-capita producer and consumer of Sake in the isles, producing some of the finest in the isles. The secret ingredient? The pride that its people have in their produce. Talking to a grower, it is as if their entire family has been wed to the same paddies and they know them like their own bodies. To visit Shirojima is to visit the peace at the heart of every individual, to exalt the simple pleasures of life, and to emerge from the experience full of good food, good company, and a spiritual nourishment.

YURSEAN PARTY LEADER MEETS WITH ROENDAVARIAN NASCION PARTY LEADERS AND THE CELION

10th of April, 2022 (4er vi Frecunestil, 2820 AE)

DOCIARA, ROENDAVAR- Ronald Murray, party leader to the Movement for a Better Yursea, arrived in Dociara on the early morning of April 10, 2022 to discuss policies with the Nascion party, Roendavar’s largest party for 3 decades and current leader of government, controlling all 4 seats of the Thronai, prior to the death of the Thronai of Andavar, and a majority of the seats at the High Council, both in the Inner and Outer Circle.

Currently, both nations are governed by leftist coalitions. Ronald Murray, who represents the Movement for a Better Yursea, is a democratic socialist party and is currently in an in-government coalition with other leftist parties in Yursea, most notably with its largest and in-government party, the Liberal Democratic Party. In a similar situation, the Nascion Party remains the largest and leading party in the Roendavarian government, ruling within the majority coalition with Roendavar’s leftist parties such as the Afanthavar Droithosael and the Lorasthran Carathaen.

Ronald Murray arrived at the Athelaai Aragonus Eleianthaviteil - Augosten at around 7 AM in the morning where he was welcomed by the Elenthir of Foreign Affairs, Avalina Ereliasin Thavarcaliei, and the current Yursean Ambassador to Roendavar, Cameron Barrett. He was transported by car to the city of Dociara where he was taken to the Yursean Embassy to prepare. At 3 PM, he was invited to the Hall of the Tree for a private conference with the party leaders of the Nascion. It was noted that both the Thronai of Vastaros, Victor Azaneragrin Vatilezi, and the Thronai of Sudever, Soerin Soarelathria Dartulesa, were present, as well as current Nascion Party coordinator, Lanthaimon Cenecsil Thanirmos. It was reported that details of the Roendavarian healthcare, education, and environmental systems were discussed. Roendavar’s progress regarding the highly successful communalisation of agriculture and industry were also discussed. At around 8 PM, Ronald Murray was invited to a courtesy dinner with Celion Faunus Eleos Caenalren Iralethias at the Palace of the Life God in Iralanen. While their discussion was privy, according to the Royal Press, the two mostly discussed policy, geopolitical issues, and a bid for closer ties between Roendavar and Yursea, both bilaterally and multilaterally through the Eterna-Argean Friendship Accords. It was reported that Ronal Murray returned to the embassy at around 10:30 PM.

On April 11, it is reported that Ronald Murray would be visiting Roendavarian social housing in the Calmeren District, the Pilonas-Lacsandarieth Academic Complex, and the Grand Library of Althoros. He has also made plans to observe operations for the thecaliman system, which are Roendavarian public ‘cafeterias' where food surplus or unwanted produce are processed and temporary accommodations can be availed. It is run by volunteers or temporary community servants and has seen significant improvement in the health and welfare of Roendavarians, especially those without active employment, students, the homeless, etc. On April 12, he is expected to take a brief break touring Dociara. He is currently staying at the Yursean Embassy at Block 4-7 in the Lascien District and will leave the country by the morning of April 13.

Many have raised eyebrows at the decision by the Roendavarian government to welcome the leader of a minority party rather than its current largest party, the Liberal Democratic Party. A primary dissenter of the visit was Camelina Thenilenas Amarieldhin of the Corinthusil Carathaen, an opposition party in the government of Roendavar. She expressed concern during the High Council meeting, before Ronald Murray was expected to arrive, over the country's perceived image of breaking neutrality or a sentiment that Roendavar is trying to influence politics in Yursea. Public opinion, while mostly positive, also included concerns. Many say that the decision of the Roendavarian government is rooted in its ideological bid as a leading nation and hallmark of progressive leftism, thus, has chosen to engage more with those that would closely align its beliefs. Many also speculate that Roendavar is building up its influence as a response to an increasing regional political dynamic. Elenthir of Foreign Affairs, Avalina Ereliasin Thavarcaliei, commented on the situation, saying,

"The visit of ei-Fel. Ronald Murray of the Movement for a Better Yursea is a formal visit of a representative of a foreign political party and does not imply Roendavar's preference in the government of Yursea. Similarities in policies and goals in the wider society were the primary reason for the visit and was fruitful in shedding light on the positive aims of both our nations. As for concerns, an invitation for a state visit by the current government of Yursea has been extended but this is yet to be organized in the future."

Laedenian Civil Service is cogitated in Veleste

The leadenian Chairman of the Senate, Gaston Delacroix have passed a bill about the new Civil Service in Laeden and the project sparkled attention from velestian politicians. Since its introduction in the 19th century, the obligated military conscription in Veleste have had controversy about its cost-to-benefit ratio since many "academical specialists" argued that the conscription was hurtful for the economy since it drafted both men and women away from working for six months.

Inspecting the project, the Marshall and Exterior Representative Moro-Aldo found it intersting enough to be adapted in Veleste as he speaks:

The main purpose of the modern military conscription in Veleste is to prepare the future generation with discipline and toughness, however we are missing another adjective which is self-determination. Youngsters that finish the six month Military Service time often find themselves ready but lost in terms of finding a job as many return back to their parents home, we wish to change this by allowing them to continue serving the Confederation and helping themselves profissionally with a Civil Service program.

The velestian Civil Service proposed by Moro-Aldo aims not to replace the Military Service but to complement it, as the youngster reaches the age of 18 and concludes his basic schooling he will be given a year to partake in universities entrance exams if he wishes to, however if he does not achieve entry nor want to make university at his current age he will be drafted to the Military Service. After completing six months of serving and training in the military he will be given opportunities to either return to his parents home or other major city, in either way he will be assigned jobs which he will choose from (same as it goes for Leaden's project) and then begin working with the Civil Service program for 6 months up to 2 years (depending on the job and the techinical difficulty of being an apprentice).

After graduating as an apprentice he will recieve a medal and a merit diploma just like the Military Service offers and also an opportunity to keep working in the branch (if the enterprise or institution approves his continuation). The youngster will have the chance of changing the branch of the graduation in the first 3-4 months in case he finds it unsuitable for him as a profession.

The proposal will be in discussion in the General Council for the next month and put to vote afterwards, we will keep you updated if it is changed until then. What about you? Do you think the new Civil Service will make our future generation more professionally qualified? Tell us more in the comments below!

Viper Motors factory in Avaron is now operational!

After many months of designing and building, the Viper Motors factory in Avaron is finally completed, the project which costed hundreds of thousands of labor notes aims to effectively produce premium cars in the neighboor nation and to also model entry-level cars to be exported to other countries such as Laeden. The president of the company Giovio Gregor gave us a spoiler together with these great news:

We are finishing the planning of building an assembly factory in Laeden to effectively reduce the market cost of the Trasso in the nation: by producing them in Avaron, a cheap labor country, and cost-effectively shipping them to Laeden to be assembled, we will exempted from import tax as we will be investing in both countries and providing jobs to thousands of people. The three nations only have got to win in this investment and we have green card to do so!

This annoucement made headlines all over the car media as they see a new company to ascend in the international stage, decades ago Viper Motors was a saved failing company bought by the Confederation in order to keep the automobile industry strong, now it shows that it turned its pages and it is now rushing its efforts to be a regional power. What future can we expect of this genial enterprise? Only time will tell!

Belantica ready to join ROS, Boths Houses Approve of Motion

Yesterday, Prime Minister Burke and Her Majesty signed the bill that gave approval to seek out membership within the Raedlon Organization of States (ROS). This comes after last Friday, where the House of Commons voted 72 out of 128 votes to advance it to the Senate, while the Senate votes 52 out of 65 votes to pass the motion. There were some mixed opinions on whatever or not it would pass the House, but in the end, it passed with a slim majority, with 41 MPs voting against the motion, and 15 abstaining. The Senate was less divided on the issue, which allowed it to be cleared within a short amount of time. Now that the motion has been greenlit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can begin the process of applying for membership within the ROS. It is likely to expect for a meeting to take place between officials of both Belantica and the ROS in the near future, as is yet to be determined.

For some, this is bringing high hopes and ambitions due to membership with this organization offers some benefits. Many within the Liberal, Tory, and Social Democrat camps say this is a great step for Belantica to take in the coming months. In addition, many economists and defense experts seem to favor the idea as well. "Our country is right smack in the middle of Raedlon," one economist said, "it would allow us to be a vital part of the bridge that can bring Raedlon nations closers together and promote prosperity and stability in our region. With uncertainties constantly on the horizon, neighbors should come together and create a sense of community rather than constantly dividing."

On the opposite side, there are many groups and political factions that stand against joining the ROS, their reasonings may very, but all seem to come to an agreement over this topic. Members of far left groups such as Labour, the New Liberals, and the CPB oppose membership, as in a collective statement said that the ROS "more or less isn't overly concerned with the welfare of people, but is concerned with the interests of the wealthy, large multinational firms, banks, and the political elite." While those more on the far left show their discontent, far right groups such as the Unionist Party are already declaring the intent to join the ROS as a betrayal to the nation, further adding that those in support are “sellouts”. Despite this, a majority of the general public is indifferent about the government’s decision this week, believing in wanting to see what results this will produce.

Wildland Ranger Corps Welcomes All Female Team Amidst Spike in Poacher Violence

Yesterday the Gendarmerie announced that the Wildland Ranger Corps had formally commissioned its first--and so far only--all female ranger unit into service, dubbed "Team Cheetah." The historic occasion was honored by a commencement ceremony at the WRC Academy, and comes at a time when rangers are faced with a disturbing new precedent of poacher violence. Two rangers have already been killed and one injured in poacher confrontations within the last 60 days.

Team Cheetah currently numbers 10 women strong, all of them coming from similar cultural backgrounds near the parklands they are expected to patrol. Team leader Nadia Etémé told reporters that she was honored to serve in her new capacity but also understands the potential danger she and her fellow rangers may face. "We have our work cut out for us, but its what we trained for," said Ranger Etémé. Etémé served in the Martenyikan Army for several years as a non-commissioned officer prior to joining the Wildland Ranger Corps and heading Team Cheetah.

According to public statements, the Gendarmerie and subsequent WRC are interested in evaluating the effectiveness of Team Cheetah, especially in situations involving female suspects, witnesses, and local inhabitants. Neither the Gendarmerie nor the WRC have committed to raising any further all female teams at this time, however it is possible that they will reconsider in the future.

The National Informer
Murray Controversy slides into National debate over possible ROENDAVARIAN influence!

Image
Members of the Conservative Party (on left) and Movement for a Better Yursea (on right) yelling at each other during active session.

Dubbed the "Murray Controversy" by conservative news outlets, the past few days have been tough for the Prime Minister and his allies in the National Convention. What was supposed to be a simple flight to Roendavar to discuss similar policies between parties turned into a proper mess as Conservative party members have seized the initiative and accused the Government of colluding with foreign governments for reasons that can only be illegal and immoral. Some have even demanded that the Prime Minister resign and new elections be called. Deputy Charles Reid (CP) has said a new election would reflect the peoples changing views on who should be in-charge. Of course, the Prime Minister has so far refused calls for a new election but he isn't the only one with the power to call elections. Many Political Commentators have pointed out the Prince has the authority to dismiss the National Convention and some are worried that the conservative Prince may dissolve the legislature and set a new date for another election. Though some do say that this is just fearmongering and that the Monarchy respects the boundaries set by the 1996 Constitution and will not intervene, though it's still an interesting thought to think about.

Conservative Party Leader Wilson Jarod has already announced the formation of an Investigative Committee. It's purpose is to review the appropriateness of a Yursean Party Leader visiting a foreign country without being on official government business. A spokesperson for "Movement for a Better Yursea" has stated that this Committee is unconstitutional and that the party would not listen to any subpoena's issued to them. Protests outside the Embassy of Roendavar started shortly after news of the Controversy broke out, with hundreds trying to make sure Ambassador Lireia Athenalcris Geniveildhin saw just how angry Yursea was. Mayor Derrick Raymond (LDD) has announced a curfew following these unauthorized protests and has deployed the Capital Police to disperse them as peacefully as possible. It's crazy to imagine how just a few days ago everything was so calm but now we're in the midst of a possible constitutional crisis. We can only hope that the Prime Minister wasn't involved and that the Conservative Party doesn't go far too in it's quest for an answer.

Minister of Environment Zamorano steps down from Minister Position

16th of April 2022,
Vasca, Federal Republic of Uprea

Minister of Environment Dr. Lia Zamorano has announced she will be stepping down from the Minister Position. Reason for that is the recent negligence allegations made by the prosecution regarding the Volcano Crisis of October 2021. According to the prosecutors the Minister actively played down the warnings made by scientists and experts, thus endangering many Upreans and possibly blocking the evacuation of many residents near the Volcano, which now have been hurt or have even lost their lives due to the evacuation not happening fast enough.
Although the prosecution have yet to present any evidence regarding the case, the Minister has announced in a speech, she will be leaving the Office with immediate effect.
I am here today to announce that I will be stepping down as Minister of Environment. I feel that I have, at no point in time, have ever downplayed or even ignored warnings from my advisors. This investigation has put not only a lot of pressure on myself, but also on my family and on the ones close to me. Several members of my family have received horrific messages, especially over social media.
I understand that many people are upset, as they have permanently lost a loved one. But you cannot put the blame of natural disasters on a single person. In my time as Minister I can say with full confidence, that I always, to my best possibilities, have done everything in my power to protect the people of Uprea. Now, in order to protect my own family, I will therefore be stepping down with immediate effect.

After the investigation was opened, several members of the United Liberal Democrats have supported the Minister of Environment, like the Minister of Interior or the Minister of Employment.
Even though the Minister has now stepped down, the investigation will continue and will further evaluate evidence secured at the raid of the Ministers Office in Vasca. An official statement of the prosecutors regarding the Minister stepdown has not been released and is not likely to be commented on at all. There is also yet to be evidence presented. An official court date has not been set, as a judge will first have to determine, if there to be enough evidence for a court case to be opened.

As the position of Minister of Environment is now currently not filled, there are two main candidates for the position in the midst of the ULD:

Pedro Fonseca: The Politician just recently left the ranks of the Green Party of Uprea to join the ULD in 2020. He is not favored by his former party, but has many supporters in the ULD. The 62 year-old has a more conservative mindset which aligns with the ULD principles, which is also why he transferred to the ULD.

Josefina Luisa Dias: The young 33 year-old has clear concepts for the future and is especially popular by the younger members of the ULD. Under her administration she hopes to bring Uprea closer to CO2-negativity, with more progressive steps in environmental protection and green energy production.

Currently experts are fighting over who might be the favorite. As the Minister will have to be appointed as soon as possible, the public will know for sure over the course of the next week.

NUBL Playoffs Tip-Off set on 01st of May

16th of April 2022,
Cantavila, Federal Republic of Uprea

As the regular season of the National Uprean Basketball League comes to an end the Playoff Contenders are almost set for this years Playoffs. Currently there are still a few games to be played and the race for the last few remains close and exciting.
A total surprise team in form of the Daraeus Surfers, which had their last Playoff games back in 2016, currently still has a shot to make it into the Playoff and compete for the title. With upcoming games against the mighty Benistile Buckets, which are the the defending champions and once again the title favorites, and the Amaral Vipers, will be difficult for them and a definite proving for them to show, why they deserve a spot in the ranks.
Shooting Guard Julio Pacheco of the Daraeus Surfers on a possible spot in the Playoffs:
Our team has fought incredibly hard this whole season. We owe it to ourselves to push as hard as we can to make it into the Playoffs. The teams we face are fierce competitors, but I am more than confident we have a shot at winning.

Playoff-Tip Off is set to be on 01st of May 2022 and all games can be watched on PortaSport.

Turzak Government Launches Legal Challenge Aimed at Ratification of the Kirsdoff Protocol

The Government of the Turzak SAR, yesterday launched an official legal challenge of the potential ratification of the Kirsdoff Protocol. The motion currently to be examined by the Turzak High Court at unspecified time (although likely within the next 3 weeks), aims to disrupt the ratification of the protocol by protesting it as an intrusion onto the autonomy of the SARS. Constitutionally, the Special Autonomous Regions are not de-jure exempt from treaties that effect TotoMishin as a whole. They can have representatives that negotiate the clauses that will specifically effect the SARS. This is the standard method of negotiating a trade deal, although at times the Turzak government has accepted the standard provisions. The timing is just 10 days before the lower house is due to vote on the protocol itself. A spokesperson from the Turzak Government said yesterday afternoon at a press conference:

"Our aim is not to disrupt or dissolve the potential signing of the treaty, our aim is simply to seek clarification. Clarification on whether the articles the Kirsdoff Protocol sets out are applicable to the Turzak Special Autonomous Region, as set out by the constitutional provisions signed in 1996. This is just like any other international agreement and we are following the same measures to ensure our autonomy and rights are respected."

This is a troubling new development as this challenge doesn't look to be solved quickly. After the decision from the Turzak High Court, whatever it is, a decision will most likely be sought from the Constitutional Court. Such a decision will not come for at least 3 months, not including the deliberation. Potentially extending the timeline for signing the protocol until the end of the year. Even if the Lower House votes in favour of signing the protocol and the Upper House agrees, this is likely to be suspended while the court case is still active. Members of the Lower House have indicated that a majority will vote in favour, while no comment has been from the Upper House. Members from both houses are hoping that this will not turn into another lengthy legal and legislative battle.

|MILLIONS OF JIMENEANS CELEBRATE EASTER||SAN JIMENEZ|
Holy Week draws to a close and millions of Christians across San Jimenez celebrate Easter, the holiest day in Christianity. The Catholic Church in San Jimenez began Holy Week on Palm Sunday with a Mass being celebrated by Archbishop Florencio Casias at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Eterna Sea. Among the celebrants were six other bishops from the archdiocese. The other bishops returned to their home dioceses after Palm Sunday to continue Holy Week celebrations in their own territory. President Lucas Canone and other national representatives were among the faithful.

This Easter Sunday, Archbishop Casias is scheduled to celebrate Mass at the cathedrals in each Jimenean diocese as a sign of his nearness to the people.

Every Easter, new members are welcomed into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Mass that takes place on Holy Saturday. It is the first Easter celebration conducted by the Church. This year, according to diocesan reports, more than 30,000 people were made members of the Church. This is a slight increase from the previous year which showed 27,000 people gain membership. Archbishop Casias, during an interview after the his second Easter celebration of the day, had this to say:

The reports that have come out have shown us that the Church is strong in San Jimenez. Not only our membership is strong, but as well as our resolve to do good in this country. Our resolve to bring reconciliation, charity, and the love of Christ will and must continue to grow stronger. I continue to pray for all the faithful in our archdiocese as well as the faithful scattered across the Isles.

Government offices and many businesses will be closed tomorrow and will reopen Tuesday, April 19th.

New Embassy of Hyukai - Major Protests

With the new foundation of the so-called "International District" in Aisling, a place of foreign meddling planned for unneccessary buildings of World Assembly and Embassies, huge sparks of violent uprising began.
Construction of the first official building, the Embassy of Hyukai delayed twice as major construction changes were neccessary after various acts of sabotage. Now, with armed military guards and two rows of barbed wire the new building is awaiting official guards and personnel from the Commonwealth of Hyukai. Still, protests are still a daily occurence, protesting the raising costs of construction and security, the fear of meddling of a possible antagonistic foreign power.

Tensions are running high especially after a violent row in the House of Equals between members of the Internal Ministry and Foreign Ministry after the decision to send Gen. A.D. Kenneth ó Caoimh (76) as the very first Ambassedor, thus removing him from the House of Equals. ó Caoimh, who was famous for being a moderate power from the Foreign Ministry was elected in a political decision, which will give Minister Sergeant Emer ó Nualláin more influence. The Minister was found out to publically and financially supporting protests against any kind of foreign goverment on independent soil.

Again, discussions on how to militaristic defend against foreign meddling were met with strong refusal on side of the Military Ministry. A spokesperson offered the statement: "We will make sure, that there will be no colonisation of our soverign soil. There will be no military of foreign power outside of basic security. And they will obey our laws. Unless this will change we will not engage in combat.". Still, Police Units are in high alert around Ailing Airport, Military Transportation is prepared to protect the official Ambassedor.

GC Independence advises all citizens to be calm and rational, but reminds everyone to make sure their voices are being herd.
