Lhre Informationen presents: Protest in New Berlin

At least 2,000 people protested in New Berlin against the laws of the new radicalist government. There was confrontation between protesters and the police, various establishments were set on fire.

The protest is the first response to the program of social reforms and abusive laws announced by
Emperor Hoffmann II, a great controversial leader with several radical ideas

The socialist opposition & radical-left denounced the Royal Court to approve radical laws against the rights of the worker. "The Royal Court is a facist hell; radical and oppressive, which violates rights of us, workers, and confiscates everything that we have" says the 'Socialist Wall Party' leader Marken Kunze.

The Workers' Movement is working in a strike system in the coming weeks and a general strike on February 5th across the country. The entities of the Royal Court, announced that: "The Socialists, only want to change the Political Regime, to make more profit and betray all the population."

Public spending cuts also affected some specific sectors such as the public safety, public workers, and the public transport. In-total, the government expects to economize 6 billion of Marks.

The Socialists threw rocks and smashed windows when they marched from the New Berlin Popular Center to the New Berlin's South where the Royal Court is located. Twelve protesters and a police officer were injured. When they marched, the police used a military tank to use against the socialists, who were setting fire in public establishments such as banks, schools and hospitals.

The police said that the protest was peaceful in the most of the time, but masked protesters threw rocks, sacks of garbage, and other objects against the police, near in the Royal Court and later near the Secretariat of Economic Studies

BREAKING NEWS: Daniel B. Entemont Elected Secretary-General of the Cooperative Union
Winston Gorgovin, The Stellanova Times | 31 January 2018

Image
The Valdr spoke with the press at the Valdrian Estate.

- (Stellanova City, Tectonix) In what may very well turn out to be a watershed moment in CU history, Tectonixian Chief National Ambassador Daniel B. Entemont was unanimously elected as the third Secretary-General of the Cooperative Union. This monumental victory for Tectonixian foreign policy was hailed across the archipelago, and the Cooperative Union flag flew over the Tectonixian Parliament. Politicians lined up to praise the new Secretary-General, with everyone from the Valdr to the Deputy Undersecretary for the Department of Urban Development making press releases to congratulate Mr. Entemont and proclaim Tectonix's vaunted position in international politics.

The Cooperative Union has had a storied history regarding its leaders. Its inception saw Covonantian Lucretia Silvania elected as the CU Commission Chairwoman, a position from which she de facto ran the Union's activities. The Silvania administration was primarily focused on establishing the CU and getting its institutions up and running, and it was largely successful in that regard. After her resignation following the election of Covonantian Prime Minister Crassus Gais, an amendment to the Treaty of Coventry officially instituted the post of Secretary-General for the newly-elected Harold Aentyn of Noronica. The Aentyn administration saw the sweeping implementation of the CU Health Organisation, Peacekeeping Force and Trade Board, with the third being particularly controversial. Moderate and conservative members of the CU lambasted the Trade Board's provisions removing Member-States' ability to act unilaterally for third-party trade treaties, but were unsuccessful in blocking its passage. However, after a few months had passed, the chamber approved a resolution to repeal the CUTB, and institute an advisory regulatory board to ensure CU product safety without transgressing sovereignty.

During a press conference, the new Secretary-General was asked about his policies. Here are some of the highlights—

On current institutions:

I am proud of the work the CU has accomplished in ensuring pertinent and well-funded institutions are able to aid CU Member-States and Citizens in providing for the general welfare. With the Trade Board safely eliminated, I find the current CU institutions to be beneficial, and should be maintained as the CU continues to grow and evolve.

On a recently-proposed admissions policy:

As I have vacated the Director of Admissions role, I've seen it fit to leave the office empty so as a full resolution can be passed on CU admissions. A particular plan I've been presented with involves the applicant nation speaking with the Secretary-General, before proceeding to implement CU law in their nation. They will only be deemed viable for admission if CU law is fully-implemented, and a vote will be taken shortly after. I see this approach as quite beneficial, though would appreciate the input of the Commission's delegates to ensure its viability.

On his plan for the Cooperative Union:

My predecessors have done a terrific job running our Union — I intend to follow in their footsteps, with a few notable differences. I believe that the CU should seek to expand its Member-States, attracting more nations through our economic policies and well-established institutions. As well, I will seek to better ensure the harmonised implementation of CU law in current Member-States through routine checks and the occasional deployment of inspectors. My office will be putting out a more detailed list of my plan for the Cooperative Union, but I can assure you of one thing — I intend to ensure the Cooperative Union remains on its path of cumulative growth, and properly manages its resources while respecting national sovereignty to improve the lives of every Cooperative Citizen.

|Cardinal Colquitt Dead|
Good afternoon, I must inform you, with the deepest regret and sorrow, that Cardinal Colquitt, at 3:24 am, by three priests who were with him, was pronounced dead. He died of 4 gunshot wounds to his torso. On January 28, 2017, the cardinal was the victim of a shooting at the National Shrine in Del Agua City, casualties have numbered now to 118 dead and 79 wounded and hospitalized. At the moment, his funeral is planned for this Saturday along with other victims in Del Agua City, despite growing danger. The Church is now without a leader, for the moment. A new head of the Jimenean Church will be chosen by the bishops of San Jimenez amongst themselves once they return to Del Agua City when the threat is minimized. Right now, dozens gather together outside the hospital with lit candles and crucifixes in honor of the late cardinal. At this moment, San Jimenez grieves with the loss of the Church's most powerful voice and the destruction inflicted ono Del Agua City, the heart of the Jimenean culture and identity. President Canone has also ordered all flags on government buildings, including embassies,
to be lowered at half-staff. In the capital, Gran Teran, at the House of State, the Jimenean flag has been replaced with the flag of The Jimenean Catholic Church for the next seven days as ordered by the president to show the nation's sorrow and faith in the Church after the recent bloodshed.

|Belle Isle en Terre Offers A Hand|
In related news, the churches of Belle Isle en Terre have joined together to offer a portion of collections to be sent to the Jimenean church for aid and to the victim's families for funerals and memorials. King George II has also donated money to the Church for rebuilding. Money received will also be applied to the funeral of Cardinal Colquitt. As a sign of thankfulness and solidarity, the Jimenean bishops have extended an invitation to the bishops and priests in Belle Isle en Terre to Cardinal Colquitt's funeral in Del Agua City.
In further response, the Jimenean government, by request of President Canone, has also offered the construction of embassies between the two nations. "I am proud to say that this government and the citizens whom it represents are incredibly grateful for the compassion and the moral standing of Belle Isle en Terre. This is an act the Jimenean nation will never forget for years to come," said President Canone at an interview today on the recent attack. The nation of Belle Isle en Terre has shown recently its interest in prosperity and peace with the nation of San Jimenez, that is an interest that, now, is shared by the people of San Jimenez.

This news comes with great regret for the loss of life, especially our holy Cardinal Colquitt. Thank you, goodnight.

Newly Coronated Prince Philip III uses constitutional powers to controversially dissolve parliament
The newly coronated Prince Philip III has used a constitutional clause which gives him the power to dissolve parliament, and call a fresh election.
The move was heavily condemned by the President of Thomania, which recently gained independence.
President Rodriguez said "this is horribly undemocratic and not necessary following the election that took place some months ago. I can not explain how undemocratic this is, and the toll it will have on the Sebenican people."
Since the announcement this morning, protests have taken place across the nation against the Prince, calling him an 'absolute monarch'.
The Prince has not released any reasoning into the decision, but is allowed to take it as it is part of the constitution.

Manhunt Continues For VBSE Bombing Perpetrator
Government Reaches to Ally SJ In Tough Times

Verona Beach It has been five days since the deadly and horrendous bombing at the VBSE which claimed multiple lives. In those five days, the largest manhunt in Verona Beach's history has gone underway to match the severity of the worst terror attack in Verona Beach. The search is thorough, with reserve military forces being deputized to aid police forces in scouring every house, alley, store, and car in the country. The entire nation is almost at a standstill as police squads, like in an authoritarian nation in turmoil, prowl slowly down streets searching for evidence.

Two accomplices have been arrested so far, suggesting this is not a lone-wolf attack- as many PLF-aligned bombings are- but a coordinated conspiracy. Some have suggested that the bombing was used to distract from news breaking about the Keverai Papers, many of which adversely affect Veronite companies. NOTE: These conspiracies are, at the moment, not yet backed by evidence and should be treated as such.

In solidarity with San Jimenez and the Jimenaean community of Verona Beach, the Chief Minister has delivered a statement condemning the attack and has sent aid to the victims and repair efforts in Del Agua City. Dual vigils for the VBSE bombings and Del Agua attacks are still happening across Verona Beach as this article hits publication, with thousands so far attending or using a Veronite-Jimenaean friendship flag filter on social media to express unity and support between these two old allies.

The suspect in the bombing is 5'7, believed to be white, last seen wearing glasses and formal business attire. An image has been provided above. His name is not known but is believed to start with "Keith," although this may be an alias. Anyone with information must call Crime Stoppers at 919 or Police at 112 and will be rewarded.

More as it develops.

Mantra by Guru Dharmaraksha Auctioned for a Record Breaking $1.1 Million

18:34 - During a mantra recitation session at Shri Padmabodh Temple, the chief temple of Guru Dharmaraksha, a dually esteemed and controversial guru in Bhumidol, Dharmaraksha auctioned a divine mantra scroll before a live audience for a record breaking $1.1 million. The sale which drew significant attention from the Bhumhalese public and specialized derivative markets, far outstripped the previous record of $216,900 for another mantra written in 1994.

Image

In Bhumidol, mantra scrolls written by deceased and alive Buddhist gurus form a niche (and highly unusual) derivative market commonly called the Gurupatra. The market became especially visible prior to the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, highlighting in the minds of many Bhumhalese the material excesses from the time period.

The sale drew additional condemnation from liberal users of Bhumidol's social media, who view the guru as complicit in the 2016 Refugee Crisis. The holy man's temple funds were found to be heavily invested in domestic cheap-labor manufacturing futures, raising suspicion that the guru betted on rising industrial profits from slave labor.

Despite such claims, the guru has a major following across the region, claiming over 80,000 devotees, many of whom think the spiritual master is absolved of any wrong doing in the Refugee Crisis.

Long-Term Bhumhalese Government Bond Yields Fall, Frustrating Federal Exchequer

12:47 - Attempts by the Federal Exchequer to shore up yields on long-term Bhumhalese Government Bonds over the past three months have failed, concerning members of the exchequer that the economy could witness overheating in the coming few quarters.

Dubious of rapidly changing market fundamentals emerging from the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies and increasing automation quotas imposed on the tertiary industry by the government, the Federal Exchequer has attempted to increase returns on government bonds to reduce potentially accumalating risk in the financial markets. Despite increasing short-term interest rates three times since November, investors on the other side of the table have continued to pass over long-term bonds resulting in a roughly 0.2% decline in 10-year term premiums over the last quarter.

Though the exchequer has not explicitly mentioned its possibility, some investors think that it may resort to gradual balance sheet reduction to increase long-term yields, leaving some firms in an area of deep uncertainty. The move, which would dampen powerful deflationary forces from population decline, may also adversely impact the financial market and the economy as a whole if done too quickly.

Nothing -- For if one is against nothing, there exist no enemy to subjugate, but only an infinite number of friends which right logic must sublimate...

Growing concern over the protest in Orsandia, President: The “fake” leaks are the cause
Image

KABAR SAHARI - 02/02/2018, 08:42

Peace protests held in Orsandia

SAILENDRA, Kabar Sahari - President Susanto visited Sailendra today to open the construction of the Priangan Dam on the Caruta River. He commented on the ground unrest and the situation the Isles has been brought into admist the leaks, which exposed the previous government of Samudera. While the President sternly reaffirmed his strong position against the practice of corruption, he also indirectly blamed the leaks for the growing unrest in Samudera.

It is truly an unfortunate event that happened in Orsandia. I firmly oppose the practice of corruption, and while i support the Orsandians’ decision to express their opinion, it must has limits. Riots are unjustifiable in any circumstance and Samudera will stand by our ally if required. This unrest is unfortunately caused by illegal hacking, and I hope the perpetrator will be punished accordingly.

The speech is regarded as a part of the President’s futile effort to restore public confidence in his administration. Many have said that the President’s comments were “unnecessary” and “confusing”, citing his support to the cause of the demonstration and his stance against corruption whilst blaming the Keverai leaks for the unrest in Orsandia, which ironically implicated him with embezzlement as well.

“It’s mesmerising really. Our President is doomed, yet he doesn’t realise it, or he refuses to acknowledge the situation”, a TWItter user said in his last tweet.

President Susanto continued his tour on Sailendra, albeit with more security surrounding him, especially on his visit to the Sailendra Mall. The President didn’t have his usual chat with passing locals, which he always did when visiting other cities before the leaks. In the meantime, demonstrations that previously were held exclusively at Bhinneka, have also grown to reach Sailendra. They continue to protest the President’s “treasonous acts against the sovereign”. Additional police were deployed to reduce the risk of riots happening during the President’s visit.

Unprecedented SOAR Attack Claims Lives of Over 200 Naval Servicemen

SOAR and the MLF continue a cycle of aggressive escalation in the Merrit Isle Campaign with a pair of unprecedented and deadly attacks upon Atnaian naval vessels in harbour at Pannkjar. The Gael-Class Missile Corvette HRHS Quartz and the Adventure-Class Frigate HRHS Supergiant were sunk with full crews, with total deaths currently numbering over two hundred. While neither SOAR or the MLF has claimed responsibility for the attacks, escalating hostile actions by terrorist organizations on Merrit make them the most likely source of this aggression.

Foreign Criticism of Atnaia "Empty Posturing", says Hegemon

With post-Flu reconstruction still deeply underway, foreign diplomatic attacks upon Atnaia continue. Criticisms have focused primarily on central Atnaian cultural practices, including the indenturement system and gladiatorial combat, and on the renewed Atnaian nuclear program. However, Hegemon Wessich asserts that foreign pressure is nothing to be concerned with.

"The foreign community wants to pretend to be wolves," he says. "But they're stray dogs. They are all bark, and their bites lack teeth. Atnaia isn't going to back down to empty posturing. All that these nations can do to us they have already done. Abandoned us to disease. Abandoned us to starvation. We supply these Isles with technology, vehicles, farming equipment, media, food. Newcomer to the Women's Heavyweight Gladiatorial Circuit, Fiora vich Kell, made a stunning display last night as she managed to defeat three time national heavyweight champion, Marie Laforte, in a landmark sixteen minute submission match.

"We knew we had something special with Fiora from the outset," said trainer Hiro Sutuo. "Clearly we were right."

Laforte was uncharacteristically off-form during the bout, with her team pointing the blame of the loss on a lingering injury from last year's title fight, which led to nerve damage to the champion's right hand and wrist.

"Further physiotherapy is clearly needed," Laforte herself said. "I'm looking forward to taking vich Kell down later this season." Read more...

Eurania and West Suomi talk unification!

Over the last few weeks, the Suomian and Euranian governments have been discussing a possible idea of unification between the two nations, which would be great for further cooperation between the two nations, it would bring people together and it would boost both countries’ economies. The new nation would be called: United Eurania, the people called Evregians, the currency the Evro, and the capital would be Sankt Petrokaviia in Eurania.

However, many are criticising the idea, because they think it would mean less individual freedoms for West Suomi and Eurania respectively. However, this isn’t the case, as both countries, and possibly also their divisions, will have the same freedoms as they always have, just there will be a new central government.

None of this is set in stone to happen, but their is high support for it by both the Suomian and Euranian governments, so there could very well be a united Suomi and Eurania in the near future!

That’s all for the news today, tune in soon for more news on West Suomi and The Western Isles.
Have a great day!

Unification seems like a good idea, but what will happen to our current government and our provincial governments? Will the politicians just lose their jobs? Or will they still keep on with their current work? It would be very unfair for many great politicians to lose their jobs!

Protests in Kiritar turn violent as police open fire on demonstrators
Demonstators in the city of Kiritar in southern Sebenica were today gunned down by police whom were sent to maintain order and peace.
Sadly, five people have been killed and another twelve have been injured after police opened fire following an outbreak of violence.
The Police were ordered to shoot at around 3pm this afternoon, as protesters began to attack police.
The Commissioner has come under fire by media today, after he said to press "the move was necessary to keep order, and the police safe".
The media criticised the statement, with chef Alexandre Hubert calling the shooting "an unnecessary and gut-wrenching use of deadly force".
Sébenie Premier (Sebenica First) leader Charles Le Onton said "it is time for the people to rise and fight against the corrupt police and their horrid commissioner, who wish to do harm to the innocent".
Sebenica First is a political movement which wants to rid of the monarchy, and have a president as head of the nation.
We spoke to two people at the scene of the shooting.

"It was horrible. An officer poked his rifle through the line of riot shields and opened fire. People fell, and blood spattered everywhere. People were screaming as we ran away. Within a few minutes, more violence broke out, then they shot again. More people fell, more screaming. The street was empty as everyone had ran away.

I was looking over the balcony of my apartment, when I saw the shots being fired. People when the road was empty the bodies could be seen. The police did nothing, and left them there. It was horrible"

It appears that this may have been an intentional shooting, to attempt to supress protests against the prince.
The protests have came days after the prince dissolved parliament, and scheduled a new election.
There is outrage as people call this a 'power-grab'.

More as this develops.

Talks with Townside Begin
Toroman Ambassador William Matabara has left for Townside yetsterday to establish a diplomatic talk with Grand Prince Noah Carislie. The visit is to last for a week in Townside City. Plans are to establish visa-free travel between Torom and Townside, a lowering of tariffs on both imports and exports between the two countries, especially in steel, presumably for Townside construction. and the promotion of tourism to Townside. Talks are said to have been planned for some time, and Matabara himself claimed that he was overjoyed at the proposition of being ambassador to Townside.

Other things planned to be discussed are state-funded scholarships and university subsidies between the two nations. There will also be a higher quota on Townsider food imports to Torom, along with lower tariffs among many other things to be discussed. The talks are assumed to begin following this weekend and will end on February 11th.

Cardinal Visits San Jimenez Funeral
After the saddening events of what happened in San Jimenez, hundreds, near a thousand people have gone to San Jimenez to attend Cardinal Colquitt's funeral along with Cardinal Kataba who will give his own speech to his late fellow cardinal. Many more thousands also have watched from home the funeral and their cardinal's speech. However, with the obvious dangers of going to the newly bombed country, people are encouraged to remain cautious and wary for their own safety and Cardinal Kataba will be escorted with many precautions.

Many Catholics were saddened by the passing of the San Jimenez cardinal and many are also wondering of the fate of the church in San Jimenez with a new vacant seat for the role of cardinal in the country. A donation fund for the recently bombed shrine in Del Agua City to restore it back to its original state. Lenaderra, a luxury glassware company in Torom has stated they will create a stained glass window for the late cardinal to be put up in the National Shrine in Del Agua once it has been restored.

Horizonte Island decrees emergency state due to outbreak

Leishmaniasis, a recurrent disease, has spread ridiculously fast to other southern municipalities of Horizonte Island and so far has caused 32 deaths

Yesterday, the Horizonte Island State Government has officially decreed emergency state due to the sudden spread of leishmaniasis across southern municipalities; Nova Baia, the federal capital of the Creek Islands and East Lisboa, the state capital are both at tremendous risk.

The pathogen is affirmed to be a superbug created by the excessive use of antibiotics by the population and eventually resisted the efforts of eradication and expanded quickly to neighboring cities such as Granada, Boa Vista, Malau and Alta Serra, causing in a total of 32 deaths; both caused by the disease and by the overdose of last-resort antibiotics such as Colistin.

Fear and unrests amongst citizens increase even further due to the possibility of the disease spreading to other parts of the Creek Islands and eventually taking over the entire nation.

Efforts of creating a vaccine to combat the disease, initiated by the Horizonte Island Health Department are getting heavily funded by the State Government and if necessary, the Federal Government might take action if the outbreak is confirmed to be very hard to contain.

Exchange student programs that were programmed to start in Horizonte Island are now being canceled as a way to avoid the contamination of other nations and control the spread of the disease.

Labour Leader Calls for International Pressure on Atnaia

Damen Reimersma, Alexis Yang

Alland- On Friday, Labour Party leader Rob Geary criticized Michigonian President Morris Ward for a failure to respond to recent international events, such as the Charbagnian conflict and the announcement by Atnaia to revive its nuclear weapons program.

"A nuclear power in the Isles is unacceptable. A concerted effort should be made by all nations committed to non-proliferation to inhibit any attempt to nuclearize," Geary said in a statement at the Capitol House on Thursday.

Geary and the Labour Party, along with members of the Progressives have introduced economic sanction legislation in the Assembly. The Liberal-Conservative majority have not indicated any support for the measure, although some Conservatives have stated they will consider it.

Michigonian-Atnaian trade was just under $9 billion in 2017. Minister of Commerce Annaliese DeBoer criticized the sanctions bill on Saturday, "Sanctions only hurt businesses and working people, they are largely ineffective when it comes to influencing regimes."

A vote on the sanctions bill is scheduled for next week.

State of Michigume Debates Arun Valley Protocol

Johnson Carter

Angawok- Debate surrounding the controversial Isles Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Charter (Arun Valley Protocol) continued this week as Michigume legislators consider a vote to sign the charter next week. The Charter has been signed by 11 nations and 5 indigenous people groups.

Proponents say it will empower the state to access certain programs aimed at education and health, while opponents worry the state will preempt national authority by signing the separate treaty. Michigume is home to the indigenous Michigume people, of whom there are an estimated 600,000 in the state, and as many as 2 million across the Western Isles.

The Constitution grants Michigume the power to sign treaties on its own, a concession made in exchange for certain border designations during the Constitutional convention 1844.

President Morris Ward's Press Secretary Madison Kingsma said on Thursday that the Federal Council supports the state's right to sign treaties, but does not consider the Arun Valley Protocol an appropriate guarantee of indigenous rights. Read More

BREAKING NEWS: CU Secretary-General Releases his Full Policy Handbook
Winston Gorgovin, The Stellanova Times | 2 February 2018

Image
The newly-elected CU Secretary-General has released his policy handbook for the third session of the CU Commission.

- (Stellanova City, Tectonix) Today, the CU Office of the Secretary-General released the long-form approved policy handbook of the Secretary-General. The handbook covers a wide variety of issues, from trade to human rights, and lays out key concepts regarding not just what the CU will do now, but how it will operate in the coming months and years. The following is the official handbook:

SECRETARY-GENERAL'S POLICY HANDBOOK
(SESSION III — 01)

Approved on 31 January 2018 by the Secretary-General of the Cooperative Union

For the purpose of expressing the policies that should be of the Cooperative Union, the Secretary-General hereby approves the following items:

§1 - CU Institutions:
  1. To fully complete the docket of CU Institutions, the following institutions should be enumerated into law—
    1. The Cooperative Union Communications Organisation (CUCO) — This organisation shall be tasked with working with CU Member-States to standardise the following communications and communications-related services: international internet connections, radio services, postal services, telephone services and international air traffic communication services. This level of harmonisation will allow for greater economic compatibility and production within and amongst CU Member-States.
    2. Cooperative Union Credit Cooperative (CUCC) — This organisation shall be a credit union for all Cooperative Citizens, who may or may not choose to participate. Citizens may make deposits to the Cooperative, which will in turn pool them and make them available as loans at competitive interest rates to other Citizens. Profits shall be distributed via increased savings rates and reduced fees. All of these actions shall be under the purview of the CUCC Board of Directors, a five-person panel democratically-elected by the participating Cooperative Citizens every two (2) years. The Board of Directors shall be subject to CU Commission law, though are not obligated to routinely report with them, as are other CU organisations.
    3. Cooperative Union Humane Corps (CUHC) — A subsidiary of the CU Peacekeeping Force, the CUHC shall be tasked with providing humanitarian aid and assistance within disadvantaged areas of CU Member-States, and non-Member-States, per the Intervention Review Process (see CUPF Resolution).
    4. Cooperative Union Engineering Corps (CUEC) — A subsidiary of the CU Peacekeeping force, the CUEC shall be tasked with the construction/reconstruction of structures as deemed by either CUPF personnel (during times of conflict) or the CU Commission (CU buildings and joint infrastructure projects).

§2 - National Sovereignty Policy:
  1. The topic of national sovereignty is a major issue for any intergovernmental organisation, highlighted following the passage and subsequent repeal of the Cooperative Union Trade Board. Although the Cooperative Union is perhaps the most "hands-on" union in the Western Isles, the balance between benefit and encroachment must always be maintained. The Secretary-General is committed to ensuring CU policy continues to adhere to this important balance.
  2. CU Institutions must always seek permission from Member-States to operate within their borders. This permission shall be initially assumed via passage of the resolution that founded it in the Commission, though may be revoked by national legislative/executive action. The revoking of such permission will result in a Secretariat investigation of the Institution's actions, to either ensure such action does not transpire again, or to call into question the Member-State's intentions if no wrongdoing is found. The latter's conclusion must be corroborated by an independent investigation conducted by the CU Court of Justice, due to its wide-ranging legal and public ramifications.
  3. The CU should never aspire to alter the means by which Member-States conduct their governments, unless said conduct runs afoul of the Treaty of Coventry's provisions (see Cooperative Papers) regarding the rights of Cooperative Citizens.

§3 - Ideological Policy:
  1. The Cooperative Union cares not the political ideology of its Member-States — these are domestic matters, and assuming they do not run afoul of the aforementioned Treaty of Coventry provisions, should not be taken into consideration for CU actions regarding a Member-State.
  2. However, it is the goal of the Cooperative Union to ensure that every Cooperative Citizen is provided with equal human rights, as enshrined in the Cooperative Papers. Nations may be left or right-wing, but any that does not provide adequate human rights to their citizens will find no place in the Cooperative Union.
  3. The Secretary-General will fight to ensure every Cooperative Citizen is treated with the same human rights, and that either their government or the Cooperative Union Court of Justice will uphold their rights should they ever become infringed.

§4 - Foreign Policy and Interventionism:
  1. Following the abolition of the CU Trade Board, the Cooperative Union has no power to influence Member-States' negotiations with third-party nations. This is a major benefit to ensuring national sovereignty, and relegates the foreign policy of the Cooperative Union to the Commission's resolutions of commendation and condemnation.
  2. The CU, as a bloc, should have the ability to represent its members in international negotiations. The Secretary-General should serve as the CU's representative, if approved by the CU Commission.
  3. Since the inception of the CU Peacekeeping Force, the Cooperative Union has been given the power of foreign interventionism through military means. This is a real and highly dangerous power in the wrong hands, which is why the Secretary-General was proud to listen to his colleagues' words when designing the Intervention Review Process (IRP), which constrains the CUPF to a degree that ensures it does not become a warhawk agency.
  4. The Cooperative Union should only ever become involved in foreign interventionism if it directly involves a CU Member-State, as was seen in the Athara Magarati-San Montagnan War. The Cooperative Union is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its Member-States through economic security and international cooperation, and military means should only be employed in the most dire of circumstances.

§5 - Social and Humanitarian Policy:
  1. The Cooperative Union has long been a strong advocate of human rights, which is why the Cooperative Papers were approved to ensure every Cooperative Citizen is entitled to them. This is an irrevocable part of CU policy, and may never be compromised — economies cannot flourish without the bedrock of stable human rights.
  2. The notion of having a "Cooperative Union Economic Zone," in which members would only need to adhere to the CU's economic, not social, policies, is completely antithetical to the Cooperative Union's core principles. Economic prosperity cannot and should not occur on the backs of oppressed people.
  3. CU Member-States are already, for the most part, major players in the international humanitarian scene. As such, the Secretary-General finds that CU humanitarian action must only be taken if particularly large and diverse needs are present in a certain situation (e.g. remnants of a multi-party war, ethnic cleansing, etc.). Ensuring that the CU-at-large is only involved in macro humanitarian issues will prevent unnecessary spending and the potential for sovereignty encroachment.

§6 - Economic Policy:
  1. The Secretary-General highly approves of the current CU economic policy, and will only seek ways to enhance it (e.g. the CU Credit Cooperative). Few, if any problems have arisen from the CU's economic policy, though should any be documented, they must be immediately brought before the CU Commission for examination and action.
  2. IThis policy's lower location on the handbook is only due to the Secretary-General not finding the policy particularly controversial, and as such not requiring higher placement.

|Del Agua City, February 2, 2018|

|Funeral of Cardinal Colquitt|
Good evening, an incredible crowd gathered today in Del Agua City for the procession of the Cardinal's funeral throughout the city. All churches in communion with the Jimenean Catholic Church were ordered to ring the bells during the procession both in the city, in other parts of San Jimenez, and abroad. An estimated 1.2 million were in attendance to the procession that ended in Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, the church of the Cardinal's youth and where he was chosen to be buried alongside his mother and father. A mentionable group of people were present at the funeral including President Lucas Canone accompanied by his wife, Confederate John Quinn, Bishops from the Catholic Churches of Belle Ilse en Terre, Cardinal Kataba of Torom along with hundreds accompanying him, and a notable amount of Veronites. The flags of those three nations were carried in front of the Cardinal's casket alongside the Jimenean and the Jimenean Church flags as well. Bishop Michael also had the chance to mention the nations by proclaiming at the end of the funeral "May our God bless the nations and the people of those nations who have shown their compassion to our small nation, for you are imitating Christ! We humble ourselves before you and your everlasting glory. Blessed be the names of those nations until the end of time and may their light be a beacon of hope for The Western Isles!" The Bishops of Belle Ilse en Terre and the Cardinal of Torom also participated in the procession into the Church for the funeral mass.

|Torom Sends Aid|
In related news, Torom has also sent aid to the Jimenean Church along with others. Many parishes in the nation have offered collections whose proceeds will go to the restoration of the damages in the Jimenean Church. A gift from the nation will also be received, a stained glass window of the late Cardinal Colquitt will be placed in the National Shrine when restoration projects are complete. The Jimenean Church has offered a branch of friendship to Torom, Belle Isle en Terre, and Verona Beach after the recent aid and has pleaded for unity, cooperation, and brotherhood with the Christians of those nations, especially with the Catholics in Torom and Belle Isle en Terre and the Jimenean neighborhoods of Verona Beach where Catholic roots are most commonly found.

The future of the Jimenean Church is still unknown but the nation's bishops have met in Del Agua City, for the first time since the arrest of the suspected White Reformers who allegedly conducted the Del Aguan Church Bombing, to choose a new Cardinal amongst themselves and address any further complications and problems with local dioceses before returning to their own respectable diocese. That is all the news we have at the moment, thank you and goodnight!

"May our God bless the nations and the people of those nations who have shown their compassion to our small nation, for you are imitating Christ! We humble ourselves before you and your everlasting glory. Blessed be the names of those nations until the end of time and may their light be a beacon of hope for The Western Isles!"

PSSA Launches SHOR With Unknown Payload

Image

Early in the morning today, the Polar Svalbard Space Administration authorized the launch of a SHOR carrying an unknown payload. This was not one of the scheduled launches that the government usually tells citizens about. What the missile is carrying is unknown, although the government has stated that there is no cause of concern, the payload is being used for research purposes and it was able to be launched much faster than schedule so the head of the PSSA took the chance to launch the rocket sooner than thought.

Many people were displeased with the fact that they could not get out to see the launch, with many complaints being lodged on the Space Administration's website. The PSSA has stated that there will be another launch soon, and the public will be told in advance so that they can see it. Many pictures were able to be taken though on smartphones and some on cameras by people who were near to the launch site but ultimately weren't expecting the launch. Even so there were pictures that were taken by workers who work at the PSSA, such as the one shown to the left.

Many analysts are wondering what was in the payload that would cause the government to not disclose the payload. There have been guesses ranging from military testing, to ventures for corporations, to even spy satellites. It has been confirmed though that the satellites trajectory will take it over or close to both Atnaia, San Montagna, and Thuzbekistan; all three of which have been causing a stir around the Isles. This has put favor into the analysts who believe it may be a spy satellite. We will not know though as the government would not disclose this information.

Stay tuned to this story to see if the government does disclose what the payload was.

Svalbardian Troops From Doppler Return Home

Soldiers who took part in the war in Doppler for two years finally returned home yesterday after being in transfer for two weeks, much of that time was spent gathering all the men and supplies together and sorting out the logistics. Most soldiers returned to Polar Svalbard by ship and were led into the harbor at Alta by the First Fleet. A massive parade was ready for them upon returning home and the entire city of Alta was shut down today for the celebrations. Damage is estimated in the hundreds of thousands.

The war in Doppler was the largest war in recent memory for Polar Svalbard, many are already comparing this to the First Imperial war. From the transfer of nuclear weapons to the invasion of an MSTO member this was a brutal war. MSTO forces though proved their mettle in numerous battles and operations and across many theatres. The war claimed many lives and transformed many more.

Now that the war is over though, the question is how will Polar Svalbard and the MSTO move forward in a changed world?

Consul Bellum Warns That Atnain Nuclear Proliferation Will Have Consequences

With the recent announcement that Atnaia will be once again perusing nuclear weapons many people and governments around the region have been reeling. For such an unstable government to blatantly say they are pursuing this dangerous technology is a nerve-wracking thought. Where others reel though, Polar Svalbard has dug in.

In a press conference today, Klark Zeltargo has warned that there will be dire consequences for Wessich and his government. Going forward he said that it may be time for a regime change in a nation that has been stumbling after its 2015 civil war that removed the nation's monarchy. Moving on he stated that Facism has no place in the Isles and that the flagrant human rights abuses will not go unanswered.

Whether anything will come of this threat is unknown as of yet, but with the Svalbardian military returning to full might who knows if Polar Svalbard will go marching back to war. We here at the Svalbard News Network hope not, but we will keep you updated with the progression of this story.

BREAKING NEWS: Valdr Maxwell, Parliament Weigh In on Euranian-West Suomian Unification
Winston Gorgovin, The Stellanova Times | 4 February 2018

Image
Parliament today held public forum discussions and debates on Tectonix's policy regarding the current situation.

- (Stellanova City, Tectonix) Recently, news has broken that the governments of West Suomi, a prominent CU ally, and Eurania, a historically distant and tumultuous state, have been engaging in unification negotiations. Such an action would radically transform Far East/Kavju Sea geopolitics, and the Tectonixian government is split as to how to react to it. Leaders from the two major party coalitions have presented different manners from which to approach this topic, and the Valdr was summoned to Parliament to present his own viewpoints.

The Conservative/PU/SoC coalition was vocal in their opposition to the unification, arguing that it would be an egregious affront to Tectonixian interests to have a trading partner ally with a notoriously authoritarian state. The Blue/Socialist/CPoT coalition was, however, quite split on the issue, with MPs presenting numerous different arguments for and against the unification. Some MPs, echoed later by the Valdr, pointed out that West Suomi would lose its sovereignty to a non-CU Member-State government — as it stands, Eurania is still in the process of healing from its attempted communist coup, and relations with Tectonix have been slow to recover. Currently, the Valdr-approved policy is that Tectonix is in support of a unification that involves continued CU involvement for both nations. However, this policy is certainly subject to change.

The topic of the CU in relation to this unification has eroded support of the Conservative coalition, due to their initial opposition to Tectonix's admission. Now the proud homeland of the CU Secretary-General and hundreds of millions of tectias in economic growth, the Conservatives' mistake may cost them in this year's Parliamentary elections.

Ter Natiour cooperates with Horizonte Island Health Department in the fight against leishmaniasis outbreak

Ter Natiour's Federal Government wovs to send a helping hand to the State Health Department in the development of the vaccine for the Creeker Leishmaniasis. Efforts have been proven to be successful

Yesterday, at early nighttime, Ter Natiour's Federal Health Department declared intentions of helping Creek Islands fight against the Creeker leishmaniasis outbreak that has been occurring in Horizonte Island.

One Terran Atrevida Class Motor Ferry-Hospital Ship arrived at the bay of East Lisboa in the morning of this Sunday, at 6:32 AM containing Humanitarian Aid workers and Terran scientists which now are found in many of Nova Baia and East Lisboa's research centers, studying the origin and behavior of the deadly pathogen and are working together to develop a future vaccine.

Humanitarian Aid workers are traveling through risk areas of southeastern Horizonte Island along with local Creeker health personnel to insinuate forms of treatment and prevention techniques to the local populace. This includes prevention methods such as intensive spraying in entryways and windows, placement of nets, specifically in bedrooms where sandflies target the most and teaching citizens to evaluate the use of corporal insecticide.

The Confederacy and the Union will stay alongside its long-time friend at all costs until the disease is totally eradicated from the nation.

C6 Occupation Nearing its end as San Montagna looks to Hold National Elections

The Coalition of Six is preparing to move it's operation out of San Montagna. This revelation was made at the C6 headquarters in Coventry, Covonant by C6 Secretary General Keith Richards. According to Mr. Richards, the C6 operation in the country was a success and based on the results the country is in a better state to handle it's internal affairs.

The C6 have completed our operation in San Montagna and we are nearing the end of a very dark chapter in the country. We have rescued the country from tyranny and have brought about a renewal. We believe that to ensure that the country maintains stability that C6 presence will in small numbers remain but we are confident that the country is at a level where the people can look towards self government

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Secretary General of the C6 Keith Richards expressed his hopes that Verona Beach will add greater support to the operations of the Coalition.

The C6 is proud to have joining our fraternity Verona Beach. Verona Beach has shown themselves equipped and well invested in promoting peace around the region. We saw this with their quick involvement in rescuing Athara Magarat from the evils of fascism as well as their support in defeating fascism in San Montagna. The C6 stands as a strong alliance and a regional force for good. I have no doubts that our new member will live up to the goals of the organization as we work together to ensure our collective peace and by extension the peace of the region

The Coalition of Six will in the coming days hold major talks with the newly elected government of San Montagna which Verona Beach representatives will for the first time be allowed in the discussion. Plans are in place to have the C6 work in developing major projects with its Verona Beach member. read more...

INTERNATIONAL: Suomian-Euranian unification concerns Parlai
Arnton, Ainslie

Lawmakers in Ainslie have expressed their concerns regarding the Suomian-Euranian unification this morning. As a long time cultural ally, West Suomi has been a major talking point in the recent days in the Parlai. West Suomi has not yet had its referendum on joining in the union, with many Ahnslen politicians cautioning the nation - including foreign minister Eleane Gifford who had the following to say:

“It is important for the public to be informed as to what this entails. The citizens of each nation must know closely the historical and social contexts of the other. Eurania has had a turbulent past, and it is important for the Suomian to recognise that this unification could change many things that they knew as the norm.”

Conservative politicians have been calling for an international blocking of the Suomian-Euranian unification efforts, stating that it is “a veiled occupation, using ‘democratic’ means to support an expansionist end.”. Some ACEGAD politicians have resonated with this, and the party as a whole is split over the issue - opting to be “cautious, yet open” to the idea of Suomian-Euranian unity.

West Suomi has been a long standing ally of Ainslie, and unification is likely to greatly harm the relationship as they further make compromises with Eurania if a referendum in the nation is successful.

CU Ambassador Lauren Kingsmill today stating that they have an intention to suspend the membership or application of any unified Suomian-Euranian state due to a lack of information. She provided her comments to Arendai today as well.

“We know nothing. I barely have a booklet on my table for the unification of two nations? We will need to hear a lot more from the Suomians and Euranians before we let them anywhere near the Cooperative Union”

Upon expressing these remarks, she was asked to return to Arnton by the government for unexplained reasons. Leftist politicians have joined ACEGAD on their cautious approach to this unification. Not much is known, and not much is seeming to be released about this unification outside of these two nations.

DOMESTIC: “eConstitution” referendum passes Parlai
Arnton, Ainslie

Following a two year long inquiry by the Judicial Council in conjunction with various federal and electoral law reform agencies, a bill to clarify the Ahnslen stance on net neutrality has passed the Parlai. The general consensus among the political and legal community was that a referendum was needed to make these decisions inflexible for future governments in an age where corporations, particularly internet based ones, are influencing the government. Note: Arendai International does not accuse the Ahnslen, or any other government, of being influenced by corporations.

A bill to form a referendum to present a question to the Ahnslen people has been passed, with a referendum date being set: March 1. Political and legal commentators applauded the move today, with much of Ainslie’s legislation in regards to the internet being outdated, unsuitable or inapplicable according to the Federal Law Reform Commission. This leaves a grey zone for incoming administrations, with varying stances on the cyber environment being cited as a cause for instability.

Explanations of the legislation that is proposed to come into effect will be covered by media outlets, including Arendai International - and will be prominent on many government websites. Judicial-General Joseph Shirazi today announced the referendum in a press conference, alongside Prime Minister Andrew Kenzai.

“The government of Ainslie is concerned about the opaqueness of this nation’s legislation in managing the digital and cyber environment. Ultimately, it is not our job to fix this - but rather present it to the well-learned Ahnslen public. The internet is not the possession of the government, but rather that of the people - the democracy which creates stable, moderate nations.”

The wording of the referendum has been confirmed as the following:
Do you, citizen, support the passage of the Communication Technologies (Corporate Conduct) Act of 2018 at the Federal level?

Yes, No or Abstain

The contents of the Communication Technologies Act 2018 (Fed) are likely to be revealed on Wednesday, when the government launches its information program on the referendum.

Nightvvalle Offers International Trading Deals for the First Time!
With the Vallian economy experiencing the longest period of stability in years, the Vallian government has decided to open up to trading with the international community for the first time! The Vallian economy's strongest industries are in finished products such as plating, steel, Aluminum, oil, as well as a strong Electronic and Machinery industry.

Opening up to international trade would boost Vallian shipping companies, helping the country grow even more, while exporting its goods to those in need or desire. The nation is willing to sell oil at a slightly lower than average price, as the nation has a decent supply of it, but wishes to switch to greener methods of energy. The nation will not however sell materials to those who seek to construct nuclear weapons due to the nation's tough stance against such WMD's.

The government has also offered free trade or tariffs as low as two percent to those who wish to buy steel, or copper, or Aluminum, in order to create a strong and steady flow of resources and money. The government will trade with almost anyone, except for those who have a past of constructing nuclear weapons recently, or those who use them as an active threat.

Economists warn that Southern Sea Instability may harm Negarakitan economy

For many years Negarakita has been regarded as a symbol of the undeniable strength of the market, a nation whose impressive economic growth (which has only dropped below 2% in two years out of the 60 that Negarakita has been an independent nation) has been founded upon highly laissez-faire economic regulation and attitudes. However, reports from a regional economic think tank based in the Candrapura Institute for Economic Studies have warned that if the current trends towards instability are not changed Negarakita is at risk of recording low rates of growth. A worst-case scenario involving a major disruption of international trade and market capital flow from a major incident such as the closure of a canal or damage to a major economy could even result in Negarakita recording its first ever year of economic loss since 1965 with the fall of the Union of Sanggar.

The report, which has been entitled "A Bleak Outlook on Southern Economics", also warned that other regional economies were at risk of a recession and blamed factors including the invasion of Athara Magarat, the refugee influx and a resurgent socialist movement in the Isles which has resulted in less market confidence in developing economies. The author of the report is Hakam Benjerang, a renowned economist and former policy analyst to previous Kongres Akisi Rakyat governments. He has alleged that if the current government does not move to stabilise the situation they will go down in history as "the government which burst the Negarakitan float", the nickname given to Negarakita's ability to remain afloat in treacherous market conditions.

The stock markets reacted to the report in predictable fashion, as investors sold shares in Negarakitan companies to try to minimize their losses from any possible financial crash. The NIX closed seven points below it started, with a record amount of sales made. Prominent business figures in Negarakita such as Silas Kepenan, CEO of Menit Makan, and Zakariyah, CEO of Nagair, both urged for calm and reminded investors that this was just one report and that both companies had made large amounts this quarter. President Nasrallah herself addressed the report and called the accusations "lies and slander directed at weakening the nation's confidence". She even went as far as accusing Benjerang of insider trading and attempting to hijack the market to buy cheaper shares.

Whatever the truth behind the report, it cannot be denied that it has made many other economists talk about the current financial situation. The effects of instability on the global economy cannot be denied and if investor confidence is dented regionwide there can only be bad effects. We at the Financial Times have made similar predictions over the years, they are the reason that we oppose most war in the region. How Nasrallah is able to respond to this setback may well shape up to be one of the deciding moments of her presidency, as Negarakita's fractured politics often move as fast as the markets. She will have to show that she is in control of the situation and assure Negarakitans that she can continue to bring economic growth if she is to last as President.
