CBC Headlines-Election Edition
- Imperatus Marl's final interview as Prime Minister
- All in place for Monday's inaugural ceremony, states Protocol Director
I think we are all going to miss living here. Living at the Palatine Manor reminds you of the responsibility that the people of Covonant has entrusted in me. The responsibility to serve. We will miss it because we have made it our home for the past five years but I am grateful to have been given the privilege to serve my country and to experience living in a historical relic such as the Palatine Manor.
Living in the Palatine Manor is a surreal experience. We know and understand the history of this house and living in it makes you more appreciative of the history of Covonant and the progress we have made over the years. The staff as well has made living here a wonderful experience and I think I would miss most of all how they have made us feel welcomed and at the same time at ease noting the heavy load which we carry in this house. The boys loves it here. Marcus was 8 when we moved into the Palatine Manor and Lucas was 12 so now Marcus is 13 and Lucas is 17 looking to start college come September and Marcus looking to start the 8th grade so we have seen our boys grow here and this house holds special memories that are dear to my heart and was at the centre of every aspect of of family life.
This election if anything should showcase and express the maturity of our electorate and the success of our democratic process that despite your favoured party has lost, Covonantians will work with whomever is elected by majority vote because they understand that at the end of the day we are all Covonantians working for a better country and a better region. I sent a congratulatory letter to the Prime Minister elect expressing my support to him when I believe it is in the best interest of all Covonantians and not just his political base. I also made it clear that I will work with the incoming administration to uphold the Charter and to ensure that our country remains the democratic nation that our forefathers fought to have. I am wishing for the best not just for the Prime Minister elect but the entire administration. Their success means our success so I do hope for the best with them.
I think all Covonantians regardless who runs the country is concerned about the country's future. I want to see a government that is transparent, and accountable to the people and all the people not just Conservatives but Covonantians. I will never be in support of a Covonant leaving the CU and this I have made explicitly clear to PM elect Gais. The policies that this incoming administration is looking to implement are asinine not all but most, and it suggest that my party will have to be an effective and efficient opposition to ensure that these policies that will do more harm than good must not get our support. And that is the wonders of our political system of checks and balances is that the government does not yield too much power. I don't want to see Covonant's role in the region change. We have to play our part, we have to be the beacon of hope to countries that are struggling. We have to lend a helping hand and provide aid to countries less developed, and we have to commit our service to countries that are not upholding international laws concerning the right to man. This is why we went to Moukere, this is why we went to San Javier, this is why we provide the highest in international aid than any other country. This is why we made a commitment to regionalism and regional cooperation because we believed that we have the ability to bring peace and though at times we were confronted we pressed on.
Without a doubt I have made Covonant much better than how it was prior to me becoming Prime Minister. Before I became Prime Minister, we were struggling educationally finding it hard to keep up with other countries whose education system were far advanced than ours.We had an awful outdated system of tax collection and we reformed it. Our economy was falling behind and with economic reform and more freedom granted to the private sector and a withdrawal of government from the economic activity of the country we fall in the top 5 of the largest economies in the region, so without a doubt I am leaving a more stable country that has all the tools to be greater in the region. My administration I believe has done a remarkable job in bringing peace and stability to the entire region. We all know that when Covonantian presence is in the midst countries are assured that peace will come. We see it evident presently with reduce tensions regionally, and our leading role to end a fueling conflict between a communist state and a democratic state that could have led to an ideological conflict. We may have fallen short in other places but overall our work and leadership has done well to have a more peaceful region
Well I will be looking to serve as Opposition Leader. I should be leaving the Palatine Manor on Monday but we don't have our government recess until August so I will have a lot of work to do until then as Opposition leader to ensure that I can have an efficient and effective opposition.
I will be leaving Coventry and going to Capitoline. Marcus will be coming with me to start a new school where he will be given the privilege to continue his education away from the politics. Lucas plans to attend the University of Coventry to study Law. So we may have another politician in the making.
All is in place for Monday's inaugural ceremony, where we are expecting to have in attendance over 25,000 guest among them being world leaders, influential business persons and Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corp. Security will be a top priority of the day where we will ensure that our visiting dignitaries experience the best of Covonant's traditions of having an inauguration.
The Protocol Department is not the one that decides the order of events we only approve the request made from the Office of the Prime Minister Elect. They have sent the request to us with invited guest and the list of entertainments and order of entertainments, seating arrangements and areas outlined for the media. We work in accordance with them to ensure that the morning's ceremony is a success

"The People of Rooenan recognizes the right of comrades to organize how they see fit. The recent formation of the EUSR is an example of this organization. Here in Rooenan we disagree with their methods but we will not interfere and will continue to show solidarity with all leftist movements in these grand Isles. As for the calls for Rooenan to join the EUSR, the people have been heard in expressing a collective 'No'. Rooenan and it's Communes will remain autonomous and independent. We hope that the relationship between Rooenan and the EUSR will grow into a prosperous one."
"We are sad to see Covonant fall into such hostile hands. Crassus Gais has shown that he detests the freedom experienced by the people here in Rooenan and in other nations that are similar politically. Rooenan hopes that this does not translate into actual hostility when Gais take office. This election has shown the world that the people of Covonant are obviously in need for radical change. They yearn for it. We hope that Gais can deliver that change in a way that benefits the people of his nation."

The Better TelegraphCries for "Peace, Change, and Accountability" in the Comsedlon
"I will not hold my tongue any longer. The war quickly became an obvious failure, and crime, but we were supposed to be silent. No more. I demand peace, change, and accountability now."
Earlier today the Comsedlon was shaken up when one member, Karolíne Caitrín Faoláin, voiced her concerns over the continuance of hostilities in the Highlands. Faoláin has been a member of the Comsedlon for several years, after having served in more local capacities in her home region of Catumagus.
When violence ensued in the Highlands, Karolíne Faoláin initially supported attempts to cool tensions and confront threats militarily. That has changed over the course of the war. In her speech to the Comsedlon, she issued her demand for "peace, change, and accountability" not only in the Comsedlon but the Ahernry in general.
She listed events in the past several months which led her, and others like her, to start losing faith in the lowland cause. Among these was the death, brutalization, burglary, and rape of many Highland people and their property. According to Faoláin, the lowland media--such as The Termon Telegraph--has been complicit in covering up the extent of such incidents and others.Another Soldier Killed by Highland Booby Trap
Yesterday while on a patrol mission with comrades, one Royal Owinn Army soldier became the latest victim of the Highland defenders. The incident took place near the west coast of the Highland region, where Owinn forces have been fighting for days. Two other soldiers in the patrol received wounds, but survived.
The victim has been identified as Private Lochan Gadhra, of Ablach. While on the patrol, Private Gadhra reportedly triggered an explosive trap set by members of the Highland Republican Army. It is unclear exactly what type of booby trap it was in this situation; the defenders have used a range of explosive and non-explosive traps.
The Owinn media and military has attempted to keep the extent of such attacks quiet. It is now believed that they have plagued ROA efforts for months, and some commentators believe that events like this detonation have nearly destroyed the Owinn soldier's will to fight any further in the conflict.

CBC Headlines-Special Inaugural Coverage
- Crassus Gais Inaugural Ceremony as 53rd Prime Minister of the Union of Covonant
I Crassus Annanias Selvia Gais do solemnly and sincerely promise and declare that I will truly and faithfully, and to the best of my skill and knowledge, execute the powers and trusts reposed in me as Prime Minister of The Union of Covonant, so help me God
To his Excellency, the Most Honourable Seneca Gaius and Mrs. Gaius, to the former Prime Minister and now Leader of the Opposition the Most Honourable Imperatus Marl and Mrs. Marl. To the many Honourable foreign Prime Ministers and Presidents and Royal Majesties present, the your Excellencies Ambassadors of foreign nations to Covonant, to military generals, admirals and commanders, to members of the diplomatic corp, to all Covonantians, Good Afternoon. In compliance with a custom as old as the Government itself, I appear before you to address you briefly and to take in your presence the oath prescribed by the Charter of the Union of Covonant to be taken by the Prime Minister before he enters on the execution of this office. In this day the task of the people is to save the Nation and its institutions from disruption from without. To us there has come a time, in the midst of swift happenings, to pause for a moment and take stock--to recall what our place in history has been, and to rediscover what we are and what we may be. If we do not, we risk the real peril of inaction. My administration which I look to form will embody the yearn for change and action which we have not been privileged to receive for the past five years. This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it. For far too long we have been ignored our voice and views neglected. The day of change is nigh and the people of Covonant shall regain back the ability to control their country. It is not our will to make enemies nor to undo all the good that we have accomplished but it is more or right to determine our destiny and to safeguard our free institutions in the process. We have a moral and god-given duty to not only share our right with our other counterparts in desolate areas of the region but to ensure once shared it is upheld and respected. We have to take the mantle and become the force of good, the defenders of democracy. Democracy is not dying. We know it because we have seen it revive and grow. We know it cannot die because it is built on the unhampered initiative of individual men and women joined together in a common enterprise, an enterprise undertaken and carried through by the free expression of a free majority. We know it because democracy alone, of all forms of government, enlists the full force of men's enlightened will. We know it because democracy alone has constructed an unlimited civilization capable of infinite progress in the improvement of human life. We know it because, if we look below the surface, we sense it still spreading in every country, for it is the most humane, the most advanced, and in the end the most unconquerable of all forms of human society. This is the element that my administration will use as our guiding force to make the world anew. It is not to be interpreted as a will to destroy countries and make enemies but to be viewed as a duty that can only bring everlasting peace not only to Covonant but an everlasting peace to entire region. This is our burden that we valiantly endure. In the face of great perils never before encountered, our strong purpose is to protect and to perpetuate the integrity of democracy. For this we muster the spirit of Covonant, and the faith of Covonant. We do not retreat. We are not content to stand still. As Covonantians, we go forward, in the service of our country, by the will of God. Thank you and God Bless you, and God bless the Union of Covonant.

"The mood on the streets is change is needed, and its going to happen now. We haven't seen anything like this sense the late 80's, but realistically you'd have to go all the way back to the 20's to capture the sheer emotion and raw anger of the populace. Unlike before, the people aren't so isolated. They've gone abroad, either to the other provinces or even other countries and saw the vast differences in societies there compared to on the home front."

The Better TelegraphKarolíne Faoláin Goes to Public Amidst Comsedlon Ban
To who, or what, is this Highland so-called enemy a threat? It's neither you nor I, nor anyone really. Only the Ahernric tyrants!
Days ago Comsedlon member Karolíne Catrín Faoláin gave a bold speech to the Comsedlon, calling for changes and accountability as well as peace with the Highland Republic. As a result of her challenges, Ahern Chulainn NaAchill banned her from the Comsedlon.
Even though she may no longer participate with the Comsedlon for the time being, this censure hasn't stopped her. Karolíne Faoláin has instead turned to the public in Termon. Yesterday she made an appearance in a Termon park which is near to the capitol area. A large crowd gathered to hear her give another speech.
Some of the attendees have described her speech as "audacious," "charismatic," "enlightening." Although she repeated some parts of her prior speech to the Comsedlon, she also expanded further on the war, government tyranny, and corruption. At one point she even read aloud the Proclamation of the Highland Republic.
The gathering was largely peaceful; some attendees could be seen displaying signs supporting Faoláin and protesting along with her. Others displayed Highland Republic and Highland Republican Army symbolism, which the Ahernric authorities declared illegal in the past. Local law enforcement arrived on the scene but appeared not to intervene. Ahernric law enforcement arrived later--attempts were made to apprehend various suspects, but it appeared that many escaped.

"Before our people were pretty isolated with how things worked in other countries outside of Travencia. After spending six months working in Kanaute, Covonant we were exposed to how a government can operate with core values and principles different than the one we came from and for the most part it seemed to be a lot more functional and responsive to the changes in desires, opinions, and values of its citizens. The Communist Party of Carpathia has abused the fact it designed our governmental structure and continues to retain an oversized representation and participation within it due mostly to this legacy. Many of us union workers find that there are very few communist party supporters within our ranks, making us wonder if what the outside media says is true about whatever or not they really only have about 20% of the populations support some even questioning if that number itself is even too high. If that's the case and its support is so few and far between why does it continue to have a 1/3rd stake in the operation of our government!"
"Well you see I'm a school teacher here in the city, 7th grade to be exact. As we teach these children about their country and their homeland, even they begin to start questioning why things are the way they are. One of my students kept correcting me when we'd talk about the government and it being a democracy that the citizens participate, clearly questioning whatever or not we could consider ourselves a democracy due to the disconnect between the wishes of the people, and the make up of our government representatives. I think a good portion of the adults have sort of stayed in denial as progress happened in stages, especially in recent years after finally becoming a province but also even more so as our international exposure increased."
"Hi there my name is Mic Mack, and I'm a politician in the government from the socialist party representing a district outside of the capital city Sprague here of mostly families who have seen their fortunes dramatically improve recently. The communists love to use this as propaganda to express the virtues of "Carpathian Exceptionalism" taking credit for something that shockingly has nothing to do with them. While I've only been a politician myself for the last 6 years, my father spent his life as one before me so I've seen a view of what sorta happens behind the curtain of politics. The communist party initially was adamant about separatism and independence, a rhetoric that contributed to the rise of groups and organizations seeking to obtain those goals by any means possible.
Ask anyone that lives here who was alive in the 1980's, our society and people were nearly torn apart from this conflict. The Carpathian Liberation Army would find itself swiftly overwhelmed by a much bigger and professional force from Travencia. At the time people were pretty welcoming of this as it brought peace and stability, but the backroom politics that would follow up after these events would turn this sentiment around and frame it as anger that its sovereignty was encroached while it lacked representation and participation in Travencia's governmental structures. This would end up being the roots of our current problem where Travencian forces don't wish to risk a diplomatic nightmare doing its job and restoring order to one of its provinces in part to a clause of our provincial ascension inserted by some communist legislatures at the eleventh hour requiring Travencia to be invited by the government of Carpathia before it could come to its citizens aid and put people on the ground as needed.
Listen here Mr. Reporter, I'm likely not supposed to share this but it has to be said and I trust you that you'll get this out there to Travencia, and the other nations abroad too. Two of the three parties that make up the Carpathian Government are here on the ground, in the capital desperately trying to do our duty and serve our fellow citizens. The missing link, the ones hiding out somewhere hoping to buy as much time maybe as possible are the Communist Party members of government. They're not answering their phones, emails, nobodies in their offices, they're not in their home districts either. Nobody has heard from them in a week now, while Carpathia is paralyzed due to their selfish choices. Of course the government officially doesn't want to share that its as divided and fragmented as it is, wishing to hold the silent front out of respect and courtesy but if you ask me that's just them serving their own needs while forgetting about what our primary duty and function is, serving the needs of our fellow citizens"
Good day to you sir, My name is Rita Williams and I'm a 77 year young lady who is a member and votes for the communist party. I confess its not the same kind party that captivated me and my peers in our youth, challenging the indifference from Travencia while taking the time to develop a state by themselves without any help except from us Carpathians. You know young man, I was standing at this very here square in 1961 when I had the chance to meet what was likely our greatest politician Leon Mandel. He was the man that went to Travencia City and came with a bold idea that we here in Carpathia could function the way we were functioning while still being a part of Travencia and participating within the federal government as equals rather than being cast aside as a territory, Travencia at the time didn't recognize the government of ours we had built.

Pondes only showed our nation how easy it is for a religious madman to take power in the previous system. Today we not only protect ourselves, we show the world that we will not stay in medieval times. We will be a modern nation,
which shares its success with all. I was proud to be the first elected man who told the world I am an atheist, but now no one has to hide.
Article Nine: Secular Government
With the knowledge that a society of true religious freedom cannot exist in a society governed by religious laws, all religious powers over state will now be severed. The Head Priest of the Church of the Golden Mountain will now have no official powers of de jure or de facto proclamations. All religions will be equally protected, all laws will be passed from a secular view, and any favor or bias towards a religion are banned.

The Commonwealth shall not perish, and the Ecumenians lost represent the need to consolidate power. I have a solemn and divine duty to protect my people, and with a death toll of 3,000 - it is clear that the elected government to which I have confided my power in no longer is acting effectively. As soon as the Maoists and their Communist allies surrender their arms we can reform a new government based on true effect and true representation. The Monarchy, and the office of the Xerexhēna do apologize for this.
We thank the the Confederative Republic of San Jimenez, their support against the Maoists and Leftists will be incremental to the restoration of peace and prosperity across Gael. The ancient and divine institution of the Mantle rests its blessing within the Confederative Republic and its peoples! Righteous they are! Blessed them be in this war of ideologies, and our gratitude are vested in them.

Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you the Ministers of the various government Ministries in Covonant. I hope that my administration will reflect the changes we wish to see in Covonant and that these individuals will work hard to fulfilling the promises we have made during the campaigns. I will state that my administration will be different from previous administrations, where your task will be scrutinized not only by me but the people we represent, and I can assure if that task is not representative of the people of Covonant, unlike previous administrations, I will move to make changes in my administration. Now I say to you go forth and make the people of Covonant proud.
The talks about the administration not be a representative of the Covonantian society is not only a bias statement but it is also not factual. We see for this new administration that it has 5 females which is the same amount the previous administration had, so are we to say that the previous administration was misogynist. And people are saying the new administration is racist. And I hang my head in shame that the Democratic Party of Covonant is leading that conversation. The new administration has 1 Taurot and 1 Khas as opposed to the previous administration that had one Khas but no Taurot. And let's be frank, it could have been more diverse, but the majority race in this country is Neburisan and I think it is troubling to suggest a Prime Minister select his cabinet based on race and gender as opposed to what an individual can bring to his adminsitration. I mean this administration has created a first in Covonantian history, where our new Foreign Affairs Minister for the first time ever is a woman. That is a big thing for this new government. Not only that we also see females being given portfolios that are not the traditional soft government Ministries such as the Ministry of Community and Local Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
I make it clear that this government will be responsible. We will tackle domestic issues head on, and never shy away from international events that poses serious threats to Covonantian lives and interest overseas. This administration will not be business as usual. What I however ask for is the cooperation from the opposition, as we are here to conduct the business on behalf of the people who elected us.
My administration looks to work with the new government. We are all Covonantians and at the end of the day our duty is to those we represent and serve, but I can't make any promises that we will see eye to eye, in fact what we will not do is to compromise our position on matters that are too grave to just ignore or push aside, or allow the government to be excessive in its conduct of roles.
If the report is true and the talks were fruitful and diplomatic, what we may be seeing or what we will see is a Prime Minister understanding that his role is different to that of Opposition Leader. That you are free to say whatever you want as Opposition Leader but as Prime Minister, the country and the region is more going to take you seriously than anyone else. I am pleased that this shows a different side to the man but it is his first week in office and there as not been a major crisis to test what he is capable of. I mean the problem in Travencia might be his time to shine.
I am delighted to be representing Covonant and Covonant's interest at the CU the largest political and economic union in the region. I don't believe in the sentiment that because the administration may not be accepting of the Cooperative Union, as we still believe it was formed without the consent of the people and our membership in the alliance is illegitimate, but we are in it and the best that I can do in representing my country and the interest of Covonant is to attend and to see what this organisation is all about, because we really don't know what it is, so it is a perfect opportunity for me to interact with other CU leaders and citizens and see the organisation workings at firsthand.
My first defense policy option which will commence immediately next week Tuesday is to see the total permanent redeployment of troops from San Javier to Ailis Naval Base in Corindia. This operation was a burden on the taxpaying Covonantian, and a disgrace for the previous administration for failing to end their involvement in a foreign state.
I intend to make a trip to San Javier to ensure that the policy option transition smoothly. I also intend to see that our post on the island decommissioned. We have no business there and what this mission was, was an overt expansion of Covonantian militarism around the region that cost millions of Crowns. I will ensure that a report is sent to the Consul hearings which will commence in the next two weeks concerning our involvement in San Javier. I also look to make a diplomatic visit to Corinidia to discuss Covonant's position and policy options that will be taken against the Communist East. Covonant will be bold in our efforts but decisive in what we see as threats to Covonantian interest, San Javier is not a threat.
The Travencian government needs to intervene in this matter. For one it poses great challenges for Covonant, in that we have a large number of Covonantians employed in the industrial sectors of Carpathia and if any Covonantian citizen should find themselves in danger I will not relent to intervene to protect Covonantian lives. This conflict also affects Covonantian investment in the country, as Carpathia is the province that sees the largest Covonantian investment in Travencia. If this matter continues without any serious moves at ending the violence, Covonant will not hesitate to sanction the province.
I find it funny that we place attention on Communism to the east and to the north, but fail to tackle the issue of Communism to the south of the region and beside Covonant too. That is a problem not just for Covonant but countries within the surrounding area of the Mesder. My hope is to see that the communist party in that province removed, but I want it removed without their being any violence. I am however waiting to hear from the Travencian government what route they plan to take as this is a sovereign issue, but Covonant will not wait long. I will be in dialogue with President McMurray of Travencia and Ambassador Albano to see what are their options. Covonant options however will be to lead an economic embargo on the province which should get the support from the rest of Travencia, we have to contain communist elements and root them out before they spread their influence
I am pleased with the developments taking place in Jahe. Covonant believes in the democratic institutions and we see where Jahe is moving in that direction. It is a move and a policy we support and I hope to have a meeting with Jahe leader Cornelis sometimes in the coming week to see how we can continue the normalising of relation, provided that we are pleased with democratic elements in the country. So we will be monitoring their institutions and their laws as we are adamant that we want a Mesder free of Communist or non-democratic elements and we will achieve it
I find it funny that countries around the region are negative towards the Prime Minister and his policies which are for the interest of Covonant and Covonantians. We are an open government and willing to cooperate with countries that we deem are integral to Covonant's interest in the region. Tectonix is a country that Covonant holds in high esteem so we approved the summons and the Ambassador to the CU should appear before them next week Tuesday.
We can't state what positions we will take on the major issues around the region as it is our first week and normally you would have to wait months before that can properly be expressed.. What I can say is that we have an idea of how we want our policies and I think so far many can identify that we are an administration that will not relent, we will not back down and we will continue to be expressive when we feel an issue is too major to ignore.
