Comrades showing solidarity with the SLSJ
The arrival of military units on Maladium Island today triggered resentment among the people of Rooenan towards the nation of San Jimenez. Demonstrations, broadcasting solidarity with the SLSJ, broke out in cities and towns nationwide. Red flags were prominent and the sound of The Internationale could be heard at almost every demonstration. The Central Congress voted, nearly unanimously, to condemn San Jimenez as a false republic, corrupted by bourgeois interests. A small minority of people are calling for war. "An attack on any comrade is an attack on us all. We are nothing without solidarity, and San Jimenez is testing that solidarity. We cannot let the SLSJ down." stated Bethanie Kuznetsov when asked their opinion on the issue.

"It is time democracy takes a stand against communism. I encourage the government to enact sanctions against the foreign government. The SLSJ has proven to be an enemy of freedom to the people of San Jimenez. With Rooenan siding with these terrorists, I urge the government to provide action for the people of San Jimenez against the communist nation. We will not bend or break to any foreign government that threatens the nation of San Jimenez.

Comrades receiving combat training during their free time
When news of possible sactions by San Jimenez arrived in Rooenan, discussion of an approprate response became the top priority of the Central Congress. After hours of discussion the Central Congress released the following statement:
"The aggression shown towards our comrades in the SLSJ was unacceptable, but expected of a bourgeois state like San Jimenez. However the economic aggression now being expressed towards our Federation is uncalled for. We are not the aggressors. The SLSJ are not the aggressors. San Jimenez is the aggressor. And as such Rooenan will be willing to defend itself from aggression and to aid those victimize by this oppressive state. If San Jimenez causes any disruption of free trade with Rooenan, it will be met with force. We encourage San Jimenez to end military engagement with the SLSJ. Rooenan is open to hosting peace talks between the two opposing forces."
There have been mixed responses to the statement released by the Central Congress. Most believe it to be adequate. Others fear the statement will provoke war, while others do think that the Central Congress is not being hard enough on San Jimenez. Recall elections have been scheduled in several communes. Militias are being mobilized on the coast.
Important Memo
The Central Congress is encouraging non-militia members to be prepared for combat. If you are not combat trained it is necessary that you are trained as soon as possible. Communes must be able to defend themselves against hostility.

by Covonant » Wed May 17, 2017 4:56 pm

We have seen that the Ventlimians have no regards for the environment as they have shown greater importance to economic vitality and in that process have made environmental laws almost obsolete. My Ministry have to take into account that matters such as these affects Covonant as both Ventlimer and Covonant shares one island and we have to protect the environment of our island. We will be affected and reports from Devios is that as far as the capital Devios City, they are experiencing air pollution in the form of smog. This is akin to the environmental degradation that Covonant experienced during the industrial age of the 19th-early 20th century.
Something must be done about this, and we can't leave it up to the Ventlimians to do it. What it would take is Covonantian leadership to rectify this occurrence. It is never always easy though negotiating with the Ventlimians as they and Covonant have not seen eye to eye over the years. But we expect some level of maturity from them when its a mutual issue.
I will be asking for an audience with the relevant agencies in Ventlimer. One preferably in Coventry where our air is pristine. I will most certainly advocate that the Ventlimians enact stronger environmental laws one that is in line with international laws and principle and if not in line with international laws and principle at least in line with Covonantian Environmental practices.
We need to stop playing the Ventlimians game of negotiating and waiting for them to do their part. It has never worked. Now what I would propose is that to get our way, because this issue affects us as well is to let them know "Hey, your environment sucks, change your laws or we cut off all economic relations with you." They depend on Covonant for food supplies. I don't think the government would not come to terms if they knew it would lead to a decrease or change in diet.
Its absurd, undiplomatic, and reckless. Covonant does not operate like a bully. We believe in compromise and mutual understanding. We are holding the Ventlimians at a high regards that they too would want to have a better environment for the benefit of their people.

We had three days of heavy rains and areas have been flooded out, schools had to be closed, persons couldn't get to go to work because of the flood. In Coventry rains do not prevent people from going about their duties but in Jueverna Ailis we have to stop our duties because of improper drainage.

To fix this problem, old drains need to be changed and maintained and new drains are needed to carry storm and flood waters away. We must be proactive for Juevernans who are looking to us for assistance and prevention of another occurrence of this magnitude happening again. I am proposing a drainage programme that will see all drains cleaned, ones needing changing are changed and new drains put in place. For this programme to be a success at least $200 million Crowns would be a feasible amount to start the programme
We look to have trade with all nations in the isles regardless of ideology. In fact we have millions of barrel of oil being produced daily for export and we welcome the opening of new trade.
So we are trading with the Commies now. It shows that our trade laws are not in line with our principles. I have constantly called for a review of our trade laws. How and why are we allowed to trade with Communist states.

The opposition member raises a good point but it does not mean our trade laws needs reviewing. Covonant trade practices are in line to that of the CU we however have sovereignty in developing our own trade laws as well. With states that are ideologically and politically different to Covonant, certain commodities are not traded. Oil and gas is not a commodity that is barred provided the state purchasing the good can afford. Quite frankly Covonant would not stifle our trade surplus by being petty. If we did we would not have a strong economy or a low trade deficit.

Women's right to go topless sustained
May 17, 2017
A Lubgua judge has blocked a college town’s law against women going topless, saying the law is likely unconstitutional.
Judge Dominic Pobli said Wednesday that Fort Cyril’s ordinance is based on gender discrimination and issued an injunction against its enforcement. Fort Cyril’s indecency code makes it a crime for women but not men to show their nipples.
The law “perpetuates a stereotype engrained in our society that female breasts are primarily objects of sexual desire, whereas male breasts are not,” Pobli wrote.
The city council voted unanimously in 2015 to retain a law that prohibited the display of female breasts, dealing a blow to a growing movement within Leetika to remove gender-specific indecency codes. The city slapped a NSD$250 fine on a woman over the age of 10 who displayed her breast “below the top of the nipple” while making an exception for pregnant woman.
Three women eventually sued over Fort Cyril for the topless ban.
“The irony is that by forcing women to cover up their bodies, society has made naked women’s breasts something to see.” The judge went on to write in a significant win for feminists.
The plaintiffs' lawyer, Charmaine Jackson welcomed the decision. “My clients take a position that any statute with the words ‘Women are prohibited from.’ is unconstitutional, and I agree with them. Apparently so does the judge.”

Comrades protesting the peace talks with San Jimenez
Supplies bound for Ventlimer
After several days of deliberation the Central Congress has narrowly decided to conduct peace talks with San Jimenez. The decision sparked protests in many communes across Rooenan. More recall elections are to take place in the next few weeks. The Foreign Assembly has chosen ten comrades to represent Rooenan. Jengo Giffard has been chosen to head the delegation. They will meet with San Jimenez on an offshore vessel to discuss and find a resolution to the tensions gripping both nations. Jengo had this to say on the situation.
"I do not like San Jimenez. But I despise our current situation with them even more. I will do what I can to alleviate the tension and to aid our comrades in the SLSJ. We must avoid war as it will only lead to senseless destruction and death."
Much of the Central Congress does not approve of the peace talks, calling them "weak" and "counter-revolutionary". A especially passionate congressperson from the South Dey Commune spoke out against the talks.
"This is absurd! These tyrants are oppressing the people of San Jimenez and we are just going to act like it's okay?! We're just going to talk with these monsters?! NO! I say we liberate the islands of San Jimenez at once. This will be a war for liberty and equality!"
The people of Ventlimer have been suffering for days floods and thick smog. After discussion on the San Jimenez situation, the Central Congress declared that it would send aid to the struggling nation. The aid will consist of half a million metric tons of steel and grasshopper flour, along with medical supplies.
"We understand that the political situation in Ventlimer is... not ideal. Oh what the hell, it's pure (expletive deleted). However not aiding the oppressed people is not a valid protest of the government oppressing them. Rooenan is here to help and further to revolution, not hinder it with pettiness." said Gill Gray.
