A quarantined patient at Lord Henry Havensworth Hospital
BLACK HILL, COMBREY PREFECTURE, ATNAIA - In the wake of several deaths amidst a late season flu outbreak, three Black Hill Hospitals have confirmed quarantine procedures have been put in place for patients displaying out of normal symptoms. According to experts, patients previously discharged after displaying flu-like symptoms have returned complaining of twitching, loss of fine motor control and, in extreme cases, seizure. Three individuals have died as a result of this new series of symptoms as they have developed into strokes, and several have been disfigured as a result of nervous paralysis and loss of pain reception.
"We're not quite sure at this time what is going on," said researcher Dr. Leslie Frank, "so we are taking proactive steps to prevent further spread. Unfortunately, the rash of flu outbreaks may have hidden more insidious health problems."
"There is nothing to panic over immediately, we are simply taking necessary precautions," said one hospital administrator. "We just want to protect Black Hill against the possibility of a greater problem. This is simply proactivity."
Black Hill hospitals have already been complaining of stress on resources, and these new problems promise more long-term reorganizing become necessary. "We weren't able to take the time required to really buckle down, and I think we are paying for that now," said one doctor, who preferred to remain unnamed.
Health authorities have asked that anyone displaying flu-like symptoms immediately seek professional medical attention, and that emergency services are contacted if the following symptoms become apparent:
- Weakness/fatigue of the muscles
- Twitching, involuntary muscular spasms and/or lack of muscular response
- Loss of fine motor control, difficulty moving
- Lack/decrease of touch sensation in extremities and face
- Seizures
- Confusion and disorientation
- Auditory, visual or olfactory hallucinations
- Stroke
Further signs of development of the current outbreak include diminished pain response, a feeling of unexplained itchiness (particularly in the face, arms and legs) and heart palpitations/arrhythmia. Patients may scratch at their face or arms hard enough to draw blood without realizing. If these signs are seen, please contact a medical professional.
The Quorum has not made a statement on these growing health concerns at this time, but the NHS has said that they are "currently investigating". The Commonwealth Health Organization has said that, at this time, "the issue remains localized, although representatives are watching closely".
