INTERNATIONAL: Reformist Auka Hamanui installed as new Sudite leader
KARANOA (SUD) - After a shock victory, Auka Hamanui has formally had his first day as the leader of Sud, a small republic located in Raedlon. It comes following the loss of Jacob Lenana, a charismatic and well-liked figure who oversaw the nation’s recovery from a major natural disaster that hit the nation. Hamanui, a well-known political journalist on the island, was able to make the election a de facto referendum on disaster recovery - and the people of Sud resoundingly expressed their frustration with the approach of the Lenana administration which was characterised by growing inequality and a lack of meaningful change in the nation following the storm. However, it will not be easy for Hamanui who ran as an independent candidate at the election after a series of minor parties threw their support behind him. The election result was even more complicated than the fragmented coalition who made it possible for him to run. It is becoming clearer by the day that Hamanui will be ruling in minority and will have to rely on the support of some representatives from the same party as the former Prime Minister.
Hamanui is optimistic about the potential of his government, regardless of the difficult road bills will have to pass through in order to become law.
“Whilst the Coalition would have liked a majority, we understand and accept the people’s mandate of a minority government. They have chosen with their feet and their pens that they do not trust one political bloc or the other on its own to work for the good of the nation. We hope to gain their trust in minority government but that will not stop our progressive and open approach. We must reach out over boundaries, divides, to make this nation a better place and my government will be determined to do that from day one all the way through to whenever the people see fit to remove us from power.”
The prospect of minority government is rather novel for Sud, with this being the first time that such a situation has occurred in the nation. There seems to be optimism and excitement on the streets of Karanoa, with many gathering around Government House to watch the members of the Parliament wander into the building. As Hamanui walked along the promenade to Parliament, he did not receive the same rockstar welcome as his predecessor did. Rather, people seem intrigued as to what the future will hold for their nation. The academic community are more split though, with many saying that the prospect of a minority government may breed a level of political instability that is not conducive to good government.
“In the aftermath of a disaster it is necessary to have a stable and strong government. Whilst I think Hamanui will do a good job, I am more concerned about the concessions and compromises as a leader he will need to make in the days ahead.”, one professor of the Wake Isles University told Arendai on the condition that his name would be concealed.
After the ceremony inside the Parliament finished, Hamanui returned out to the front of the building to deliver his speech before the general public who had gathered to watch him enter. This represents a departure of tradition, as Prime Ministers typically addressed the media within the walls of the Parliament. It also appears to be a nod to former President Kelau who, when elected in 2016 to lead the Republic of Atolla, did the exact same thing. Here’s some of what he said:
“Good morning Sudites. I would like to take a few minutes in reflection, public reflection I guess, on the events that have preceded us and on what the future will look like under this Hamanui government. Firstly though, I want to thank the Sudite people for placing their trust in me as a Prime Minister and for so resoundingly turning out and wanting change. My government hopes to live up to the trust you have placed in us and are determined to make the most of the solemn and important opportunity you have given us to navigate our people through the crossroads that loom ever closer.
I would also like to acknowledge the leadership of Jacob Lenana. The years he was in power were difficult, demanding and stressful - stretching government resources and ultimately our leaders to the limit. He stood tall, taking on the burden of the nation as it sought to grapple with one of the largest crises it ever has had. He did his duty and mobilised the government in a way which alleviated much suffering. He should be commended to that.
I would now like to turn my attention to Her Majesty the Queen of Norregan and the honourable Lolan Cowell, President of Atolla. We three leaders have a unique place in the wider community of nations and our peoples share a bond that goes deeper than the conflicts and disasters which have marred our society and disrupted the peace. It is time to reconcile the three nations - Norregan, Atolla and Sud. We are proud peoples with much to gain by working together collaboratively and in a way that deepens and strengthens the amicable relations we can have. I extend out my hand today - we can and have to do better for our people. We must draw closer as peoples, as leaders, as nations. I hope my election as Prime Minister will provide an opportunity for this to happen, and for a fresh start to be made the most of.
I would like to next address the nations which make up continental Raedlon - the governments of Nhoor, Solaryia, Scaedia, Belantica amongst others. We are brothers, though we have different histories and at times different interests we share a common geographic experience and a need to work together in order to bring the prosperity we know we can have. Our Government sympathises with your people as they battle the distress drought can bring to a nation. Consider this an offer of help - where we can assist, we want to. Your nations were so diligent in helping us through hard times and it is time that we repay the favour. We may not have much, but we will do what we can in our power to alleviate the suffering that is happening on the mainland.
It is also time for reconciliation. By that I mean it is time that the nations of the Wake archipelago draw closer to the nations that surround us. We want to be equal partners, friends of all nations - not the arena of proxy conflict and competition that we can so often become. We want to join the Raedlon Organisation of States and be the first Wake nation to do so. It is time for us to come into the fold, and we are ready and excited to see what the future of Sud looks like.”
What preceded this was the major points of an address that drew on for ten minutes, setting out an agenda of reform that sought to combat inequality and reshape the Sudite economy in order to increase its potential and make it more resilient into the future. He called upon the bureaucracy, the academic community, and the politicians of Sud to work together to address the needs of the Sudite people who “for so long have languished” because of the disconnect between these three sectors despite the relatively small size of the nation itself.
“Everybody seems to know each other but does not have work meetings with each other. We want to change that”, he proudly declared.
Hamanui has set out a wide list of goals, yet has few years to implement what he wishes. If what he claims can and is achieved, it will mark a decisive shift in the nation from the approach of Lenana and his predecessors.
DOMESTIC: GO-TOR becomes first 'gig economy' business to enter pay negotiations with workers
HERRIDEN (ANE) - GO-TOR will become the first business in the ‘gig economy’ space to negotiate with its workers, with a view for the majority of its contractors to be covered by an industrial award by 2023. The process is set to make the company the first of its kind in Ainslie to offer guaranteed leave, wages and conditions to its workers. It comes amidst growing speculation that the Ahnslen Government in some form is about to institute reforms to either relax the threshold with which contractors become employees in a legal sense, or to wholescale change the way the businesses are allowed to run in the nation.
“We want to be a business committed to positive change, one that is at the front of our industry - not at the middle of the pack or staggering at the pack. Guaranteeing minimum conditions, pay and setting a clear arrangement with our contractors is one way we can ensure our business remains viable and sustainable”, a spokesman for GO-TOR told Arendai today.
It also comes amidst growing workforce pressures and the fact that many people within the gig-economy work for multiple services. It has been said before that the prospect of certainty in the arrangements between these businesses and the people who work with them is an unexploited opportunity for businesses to build loyalty and retention.
The move is being welcomed by regulators and the government more broadly, with the Prime Minister’s spokesperson today drawing special attention to it amidst her response to the news of the day.
“I note that GO-TOR has agreed to begin negotiations with its workers, with a view to create an industrial award. This is a great thing, and a show of good faith from the business that it wants to stand by its workforce and shield itself from potential future liability. It’s good business, and it’s good for the country - we hope that the other businesses are contemplating the prospect of following in their footsteps.”
It is expected that the Award will not massively change the actual circumstances of the workers as far as financial remuneration is concerned.
Eskel Teran of the University of Norlands, an export in employment law, elaborated on what exactly he expected to see from the negotiations.
“I’d say leave entitlements, some sort of way to decrease the amount of competition within the workers and potentially a modest pay rise when considering what they currently earn. Other than that, I think the more interesting part of this will be how exactly the workers strike the deal with the company and what the power dynamics are like. It has been a while since a nascent industry has brought itself into the existing industrial relations system here in Ainslie.”
Negotiations are expected to start by the end of the month, with representatives to be chosen from amongst the employees in order to discuss the award with GO-TOR. Further, it is expected that the contractors will hire lawyers and invite trade union officials from the hospitality industry in order to supervise the discussions. It is unclear whether the contractors themselves will unionise, though it is highly likely in order to simplify the formation and renewal of the award regime into the future.

We are very much looking forward to visiting Scaedia. Since our countries share a very similar approach regarding democracy, it makes sense to strengthen the bonds between our two nations. An exact timetable will be released tomorrow together with more details regarding the Ministers Travel through Scaedia.
"Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the two workers who died in the fires of a burning turbine on the 20th of August. We mourn this loss deeply and will investigate this incident further to find out what caused the fire in the first place. This is the first time an incident like this has occurred, which speaks for the safety of our turbines. We have established an in-house taskforce dedicated to finding out the cause of this incident and are working together closely with authorities.

We would be very open to distribute our green energy technology in Scaedia. Just the fact, a nation set itself such big goals to achieve in the climate protection sector, is very applaudable. Uprea would be glad and honored to help Scaedia achieve these goals.
The United Liberal Democrats, as well as all of Uprea, stand together with our friends from Aeteros. Only in unison can the international community stand against terroristic acts like such. We offer our deepest condolences to everyone who has lost loved ones in this tragedy and offer our help in the investigation to aeterosan authorities.

Allah advised us to spend our lives working and praying to be successful in life and after life. Anything other than these two essential things is considered a waste of time. It is very unfortunate to see young people wasting their time, and I would love to stop that and benefit our society. Corpo-Religion invests in the education of young people from kindergarten until university. In return, they become full-time workers in a corporation related to what they do best. In addition, they'll be given time for religious education and praying. Simple, yet very beneficial as they'll spend their entire lives working and praying just like Allah advised.
says one official from the ministry of religious affairs. It'll get many people from poverty, give a boost to the economy and make them focus on praying more. I'm all for it!
This project is an investment in young people, and eventually, we have to get something in return. It's a win-win situation for all parties involved, especially the young ones as they get to have a good education, focus on being productive in what they love and give more time to religion.

The Truth of Costavozka
October 2nd, 2022Chancellor Costava Applauds Lesvan Legislation Against Smoking
NEW EDEVAR, SEPTEMBER 25
Following new legislation in the Throngist Republic of Lesva, Chancellor Gregory Costava- in a rare move- applauded an action of the tyrannical Lesvan regime today. An announcement from the Lesvan propaganda outlet Lescentvis informed readers that the Throngist regime was implementing a gradual ban on the sale, import, and production of tobacco products within the nation. Chancellor Costava- a long-time supporter of improved public health- applauded this move and hinted at a similarly styled legislation within Costavozka. To quote the Chancellor himself:(...)
The Throngist Republic of Lesva has made a sensible move toward a healthier living. Smoking and tobacco use is known to cause a great many health-related issues, as well as being addicting to the point of (financially) crippling the user. There is no safe substitute for it. In order to prevent what are preventable deaths in our populace- in our nation and community- we must take the nessicary action to save them. This is a war- a war on tobacco. No more shall we fall victim to its wrath. We must do whatever we can to end this threat on our people. (...)
The Chancellor continued, laying out a plan to win this "war on tobacco". Effective December 31st, 2022, it will be illegal to bring tobacco into Costavozka, and the production of tobacco is to gradually end by December 31st, 2023. Sale of tobacco will be illegal effective at the same date of the following year and all remaining stock of tobacco is to be destroyed. In the meanwhile, information campaigns and anti-tobacco treatment therapy will be provided regularly without cost to the nation. If any black markets are to arise, the Chancellor has assured that they will be properly dealt with to ensure the health and safety of the public.Ministry of Economics Predicts Plentiful Harvest and Low Prices
NEW EDEVAR, SEPTEMBER 29
In this year's National Annual Harvest Predictions, the Ministry of Economics has predicted a plentiful harvest this fall, accompanied by reduced prices for domestically-grown agriculture products, due to the extended duration of warmer temperatures and higher-than-average rainfall for the year. According to the Ministry of Economics, this will mean cheaper food prices and less shortages than usual. Yields are estimated to be a 20% to 30% increase over the average harvest, which current data during this ongoing harvest season seems to support.|| Other News: Ministry of Transportation announces creation of national airline- Air Costavozka- to start operations in Fall 2022. | Situation in Jergia stabilizes. | Temperatures to remain in 12°C -- 15°C this week; drop to -7°C -- 1°C range by early November. ||
