CORINDIA ELECTION 2020

Election Update: With less than two weeks to go until the June 4th elections which will determine the President and Senators of Corindia until 2025, the race is still in the same dead heat as it has been for roughly a month. Current two time President Lindsay Abelló's successor, current Secretary of Diplomacy Reyes d'Cruz and the CWP's Marcel Paquet have dueled over first place in the polls for weeks with no apparent wavering in the support of either of their potential voters. It appears their campaigns, locked in conflict, have sucked the oxygen out of the room for the other vying parties, with only the CDPC and HIL managing to eke out some space in the charts, and even the former looks anemic compared to its previous days as the bastion of the opposition.

The Race so Far: The Corindi Progressive Party's decade long stranglehold on Central Governmental control has been weakening as a flagging economy has led populist and far left groups to question its handling of domestic and foreign affairs, particularly conflicts in Arvan and San Javier, as well as the increasingly expensive MSTO military GDP minimums. The Corindi Worker's Party, a center populist organization with strong support in rural areas, has been particularly critical of these foreign military ties under its new leadership of Marcel Paquet, the controversial Mayor of Gran Lago. Paquet, along with Lucille Mata of the Green Party and Tom Mateu of the United Labor Front, both far to the left of him, have all come into prominence by questioning the longstanding order of a ruling center-left CPP with the center-right Christian Democratic Party of Corindia leading the opposition.

Currently Paquet and d'Cruz are neck and neck in the polls, although the true leader is difficult to determine due to the Instant Run-Off elections. Contreras has seen his campaign collapse in the previous month, while the two front-runners compete to be the second choice for the host of minor and regional parties that have also put forth candidates today.

Senatorial Races: Corindia's proportionally elected senate seats are also up for grabs in June. Each of the 7 Governing Regions is assigned 20 senators, as well as 10 elected from within the Hacopare Iza community who almost unanimously back Hacopare Iza Liberation.

Chathaese unification group forms alliance with Khumbuwani rebellion; declare war against Magarati government

Image

SHAKTI KHOR, EASTERN CHATHA

The leader of Eastern Chatha, Seta-ko Hang, has released an official statement declaring rebellion against the Rhula Hangma administration. Seta-ko Hang stated that he had been in dialogue with Cross Hang, the leader of Western Chatha, regarding the declaration of war.

"I had intended for Eastern Chatha to rise up against the tyranny of the new Magarati government when Thebe Kulung Hang had declared his rebellion five months ago. However, I was advised by Cross Hang and my own advisors to give the new Magarati government a chance. Now, I believe we Chathaese have given the Magarati governments of past and present too many chances. The Magarati government does not have answers on who killed Jrm Hangma. The Magarati government does not have answers on who carried out the Khotehang sarin gas attack. The Magarati government, despite massive protests from its own citizens, carried out illegal airstrikes in another nation's borders; granted that was historical Magarati territory but still...And, they have placed their troops in what they are calling 'Red Zone' within the CCA. That is basically a hunting ground for Khumbuwani dissidents that opposed the Magarati government. We cannot sit back anymore. And how can we trust the Magarati government when it breaks promises to its own citizens...when its own citizens protest against this 'neo-imperialist' tendencies?"

"I have talked with the clan leaders of the Athpahariya Rai as well. Sure, they revolted against the Magarati government but the blame lies on the Rhula Hangma administration. Present and previous Magarati governments have time and again lied to us, promising us of a united Chatha but bowing down to Marubhumi pressures and bribes. Our dream has been a united Chatha and we shall achieve it; whatever it takes. We will join our Khumbuwani brothers and sisters in arms against the tyranny of the current Magarati government. If the Rhula Hangma administration does not heed to the demands of its own citizens, then we have no other choice than to create our own nations."

Political analysts say that the Chathese leaders saw the deployment of Magarati troops into CCA's Red Zone as a perfect opportunity for rebellion. The Magarati government claims that the San Montagnan government is supporting the Chathaese rebels; "just like how the CCA funded the Athpahariya Rai of Khumbuwan". The rebel alliance has been given the name "Separatist Hordes of Chatha and Khumbuwan" (SHOCK) by the Magarati government and designated "an umbrella group of terrorist organizations". The Magarati government has called upon the international community to declare the various separatist groups that make up SHOCK to be declared as "terrorist organizations".

The Magarati government also confirmed reports that 12 soldiers had been killed in a clash with Eastern Chathaese rebels yesterday; without providing further information.

Economy: ATCC reveals information about recent shareholders’ acquisitions.

Earlier this week Aruian investors bought stocks and shareholders in Ainslie, Roendavar and D&S. The ATCC confirmed it managed to acquire copies of the portfolios of the transaction revealing large acquisitions.
Shareholders that were revealed as follow:
  • Ainslie - The main acquisitions revolve around the mining sector and pharmaceutical sector with main shareholdings in Magnus Hill Mining, Dods Resources, Archaid, and Armex International.
  • Roendavar - there were no specified companies in the portfolios but focus on sectors such as fishing, agriculture and retails.
  • Dormill and Stiura - The main acquisition shareholds focused on companies in finance, export and energy sectors.

Dante El’mariano one of the investors stated in an interview “The regional tensions need us to preserve the regional market functioning despite the rising conflicts. The acquisitions do not take the economic and commerce sovereignty from any of the states we invested in rather the hope is that push forward those companies and sector in favor of those states. With the main purpose to push and strength the Gaeltic market despite the recent Magarati problems that pulled Gael into it.”

The Aruian government hasn’t responded to this move due to former president Del’falcos recent “walkout” from office.

Chief of senate Edal: “I expect the national assembly to fall in line with a date for election to prevent dispersing the Legislative houses. “

After the sudden resignation of former president Del’falco Chief of Senate Alisa Edal spoke in a public message that was sent to the national assembly beforehand stating that it expect the national assembly to accept the dates the senate presented before them in order to move forward with an election. In order for an election to take place the national assembly needs to vote in favor a date which later according to the constitution immediately disperse both houses before the election. “I expect the national assembly to fall in line with a date for the election to prevent dispersing the Legislative houses. “ said Edal, which if a date will not be decided on in the near months will automatically disperse both houses and split responsibilities between the government and the supreme court.

San Montagna reinforces border with Athara Magarat

The San Montagnian government has announced that it will be deploying additional forces to further reinforce the border with Athara Magarat, thses include armoured and Alpini divisions. This follows clashes between Eastern Chathaese forces and forces loyal to the Magarati government which have so far left at least 12 soldiers killed according to the Magarati government. The leader of Eastern Chatha, Seta-ko Hangma declared open rebellion in Eastern Chatha following the "neo-imperialistic actions" of the government in combatting the Khumbuwani rebellion in Athara Magarat and its spill over into the CCA.

When questioned about its decision, the San Montagnan government stated that the additional forces are meant to reinforce the border and avoid a spillover of conflict into San Montagnan Chatha. The Prime Minister stated that "The desire of many Chathese on both sides of the border to reunite Chatha are clearly present within a large portion of the population, and there are concerns of a threat to national security if the clashes spill into San Montagna. Therefore we wish to enforce our control of the border and prevent forces from both sides from entering the country. However, the borders are not closed, refugees and others will be allowed to cross the border into Chatha." The Prime Minister also stated in response to a question that the country would not be repatriating anyone on the request of the Magarati government, further stating that the nation will maintain its national sovereignty.

While the government maintains its claims of closing the borders to militias and military forces, questions have been raised about its possible support of Eastern Chathese rebels. Officially the government has yet to denounce or support the rebels, however there have been sightings of San Montagnan Chathese militias in Eastern Chatha as well as reports of Chathese militia crossing the border without opposition. The San Montagnan government has yet to comment on these reports.

Alexios Patroclos Humiliated over Proposed Property Tax
Date: 23 May 2020
Writer: Nestor Theodoros

An important victory was scored today in the coming battle over a property tax law, proposed by Gorgios Menon.

Following several speeches by Alexios Patroclos’ partisans supporting the law, the man himself rose to speak, ostensibly condemning the wealthy men who owned wide estates on the outskirts of Charaporathea, followed by several attempts to stir up the sympathy of the mob. Then Giannos Aristippus rose to the floor.
Giannos Aristippus, son of Dionusios Aristippus, was born in Esperis in 1996, where he lived until the age of 14, when he went to a boarding school in Charapporathea for two years, after which he completed his conscription and education, where he passed the political examinations with excellent marks, and also began to show potential as a skilful orator. His father being a good friend of Dionusios Alexandros, the Protarchon, though himself retired from politics, Giannos secured a position in the Politikoi as a representative from Norareia, with a promising future.

Giannos began by addressing Alexios Patroclos directly, asking him whether he had ever visited Esperis. Alexios admitted that he had not. Giannos Asked him if he had visited anywhere in Norareia, and again Alexios admitted again that he had not. Giannos then asked Click here to read more

Shipping Concerns Amid Canal Crisis
Date: 23 May 2020
Writer: Alethas Apostolou

Both the presence of civil unrest and foreign occupation have caused Empolema, Ktismandrasi’s largest shipping firm, to express concern.

Said spokeswoman Lusistrata Diodore, “The Central Canal is a vital shipping route, and the presence of rebels and foreign militaries has increased the need for security, as well as increasing waiting times. Empolema is exploring alternate routes, but has also appealed to the Government to take a more active role in ensuring the safety of Neosarche commerce.” The government has not yet made any public replies to this appeal.

Emploema is a major employer in Ktismandrasi, and its current CEO, Aias Kalicles, is the former Archon of Sphagia, and also a member of the Politikoi from 1995 until 2012. He was an early supporter of Click here to read more

Politics|Gael: Trouble in Gael? Balnik Mobilizes.
May 23, 2020

Over the last several weeks the Balniki military, particularly the Balniki Air Forces have seen an increase of movement upon its Gaeltic neighbors, notably its close neighbors of Roendavar and Aruia. Several Balniki flights composed of unknown aircraft were reported to have entered the airspace of Aruia on the 18th and 20th of May on four separate occasions. On one instance at 13:00 on the 20th of May a flight of Balniki fighters that penetrated roughly 34 kilometres into Aruian airspace was intercepted by two Gaelfighter Tempest planes of the Squadron 180 or "Coast Soarers." Radio chatter occurred back in forth while the Balniki fighters were shadowed for roughly 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes the fighters were escorted back to Balniki airspace. Balniki state media has not reported any of these incidents nor has any acknowledgement of Balniki mobilization been present to us.

In Roendavar, more instances of intrusion were recorded, two on the 15th of May and one on the 17th of May. the two intrusions on the 15th occurred above the Great Lorason Forest with Balniki fighters patrolling the airspace before returning to their airbase. Due to the lack of a defense force Roendavar was unable to intercept the Balniki intrusion, however unconfirmed sources report that the planes were detected by radar and radio communication did occur between the planes and some sort of Air Traffic. On the 17th one Balniki early warning aircraft was detected near Ciena and returned home an hour later, it is unknown if dialogue occurred between the aircraft and the ground. A spokesperson for the Balniki Air Forces did issue a statement on the Roendavar intrusions on the 19th of May at 15:00 stating;

"On the 15th of May, two of our flight became lost and suffered errors with their navigational equipment, stuck over the Lorason Forest the four planes were lost and unable to navigate the vast and repetitive forests. Thanks to Roendavarian aid the two aircraft were able to return safe and sound. We meant no ill will with our intrusions and we appreciate the Roendavarian state for its aid."

No comment was made on the second trespass that occured on the 17th.

On the 21st of May unconfirmed reports from seafaring vessels claimed to have spotted Balniki aircraft enter the airspace of the International District at 0800. It is unknown whether these reports are true or if the planes were intercepted by Ahnslen/Vancouvian Forces.

SEA Announces Successful Kenomerodios III Test Flight

At 14:10 this afternoon, the unmanned Kenomerodios III spaceship touched down on a runway at Oichallia Air Armada Base, concluding a four-day test flight. "The entire mission team performed wonderfully, from countdown start to roll-out's end", Space Exploration Agency Director Nikola ben Shem said. "I congratulate them on their success, as well as the teams from Komis-Stavropoulos Aviation and Dynamikos Trochiakos Systems, who built the ship and its thrusters."

After launching at 15:50 on 19 May, the Kenomerodios III entered a stable orbit 300km above the Earth, where mission control staff methodically tested its systems, putting the ship through planned maneuvers, and measuring its performance. All systems performed flawlessly, with the exception of one of four redundant batteries in the Power Module, which experienced a voltage drop after 29 hours in orbit. As the Power Module was not designed to be recovered after the mission, SEA and AMK, the battery manufacturer, are examining mission telemetry to determine the cause of the battery failure and develop a plan to prevent recurrences.

Despite that minor glitch, the Kenomerodios III finished it orbital tests on schedule. It then began its return to orbit by jettisoning its Power Module at 13:11 this afternoon, followed by a 12-minute long de-orbit burn of its maneuvering engines. It began its re-entry into the atmosphere minutes later. After slowing in the upper atmosphere, Kenomerodios III automatically deployed its parachutes in sequence, drogue, deceleration, and parafoil, then used standard electronic landing aids to guide it to a routine landing on runway 10 at Oichallia AAB.

The last part of re-entry was visible to observers with telescopes from the southwest coast of Ioudaia, with one dedicated amateur just south of Aipy posting a video of the Kenomerodios III taken from a distance of almost 1,000 km. Crowds with binoculars watched the ship land under its parachutes throughout Erythkorallia, and the Air Armada estimated that almost 3,000 people watched the landing from the prepared visitor area just outside Oichallia AAB.

Pending final evaluation of this mission's data, SEA has tentatively scheduled the first manned Kenomerodios III mission for early September of this year.

BALNIKI INTRUSION ON ROENDAVARIAN AIRSPACE CONFIRMED, RELD HEIGHTENS ALERT

In a statement released by the Roendavarian Arm of Domestic Defense, or the Roendavari Eines vi Lathendri Defensithî (RELD), reports of Balniki intrusion on Roendavarian airspace was confirmed on the dates of the 15th and 17th of May by reports from the Ministry of National Parks and Natural Landscapes via the Great Lorason Forest Agency, Ministry of Science and Technology, the Roendavarian Royal Guard, and the local government of the city of Ciena.

The report released by the RELD details as follows,

"Around 5:24 on the morning of May 15, the L5 Radar as part of the defense systems by the Roendavarian Arm of Domestic Defense detected an unknown aircraft enter Roendavarian airspace from the south-east. Communications were immediately established with the aircraft and it was confirmed that the aircraft was Balniki, supported by the location they approached from and their language. When asked about their purpose, they cited navigational error and requested assistance. Personnel on-site corrected the aircraft's course and guided it back to Balniki territory.

Around 10:47 on the evening of May 15, the L5 Radar once again picked up an unknown aircraft enter Roendavarian airspace from the south, passing through the Alimeni Gap. Communications were established and dialogue confirmed that the unknown aircraft was Balniki in origin. When asked about their purpose, they cited navigational error and requested assistance. An exchange of dialogue was made between the L5 Radar staff and the Tillanoran-RELD to determine the next course of action. After a minute, communications were re-established and the unknown Balniki aircraft was guided back to Balnik.

Around 8:29 on the evening of May 17, the L5 Radar picked up an unknown aircraft enter Roendavarian airspace from the south-east. Communications were established immediately but no response was heard from the aircraft. The aircraft continued on its course and arrived on the airspace of the city of Ciena at 8:32 P.M. RELD raised the Level 1 Yellow Alarm on the city, followed by an inquest by the Roendavarian Royal Guard to the Balniki Government around 8:37 P.M. The Overseer of Ciena, Lena Elenoron Viasticon, prepared an emergency order, however, the aircraft left the city's airspace before it was raised. The aircraft left Roendavarian airspace around 8:45 P.M. and the Level 1 Alarm was removed. The Roendavarian inquest was not answered by the Balniki government and no response has been received as of May 23, 2020."

All three of the encounters were corroborated by the Great Lorason Forest Agency (ALLF) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (EEM). Forest emergency watchtowers operated by the ALLF within the LL5 area confirmed the aircraft entering the Great Lorason Forest and the EEM-operated Feiles Observatory at Mount Eiresthos confirmed moving aircraft in the sky.

The Roendavarian Royal Guard's Afeigos, Cirdan Aegeanus Filthesci, released a separate statement last May 22, 2020, saying,

"While we receive the gratitude of the Balniki Government with sincerity, the Roendavarian government still cannot help but raise suspicion on all three of the incidents, especially on the incident that occurred on the evening of May 17. While we do not accuse the Balniki government of foul play nor do we see the need to raise accusations, the Roendavarian government deems it best to heighten our alert for the foreseeable weeks, especially with the current political climate."

Balniki-Roendavarian relations have been chilly for the past decades due to Roendavar's official pacifist stance. As such, there is no denying that the Roendavarian government sees its neighbor, Balnik, as a threat, especially with its vast military force. Despite this, both countries have worked together for the past years, engaging in diplomatic talks and trade agreements. Experts have theorized that if Balniki intrusions will happen again sometime in the future, Roendavar will need to reassess its policies on pacifism and disarmament. Still, these intrusions have seen no effect on Roendavarian foreign policy yet.

WEINAM TO MONITOR ATHARA MAGARAT AND BALNIK AMID RISING TENSIONS.

Military Officials in Teikong have announced that they will keep a 'very close eye' on both situations rising in Athara Magarat and Gael.
Speaking to reporters early this morning, Weinamese Army spokesman Colonel Sai Tu has confirmed that the situations growing in both regions were to be closely monitored and assessed as 'situations' developed.

It comes as news of a war declaration was announced by rebels of Eastern Chatha to the Magarati government earlier this week. Weinam has long supported Athara Magarat, including working together on the ongoing SHOCK terrorism that has continued to strike around the region, to which the Eastern Chatha region is suspected of supporting. The news of the war declaration is considered troubling by the Weinamese, who are keen to support the Magarati government in stabilising the affected area.

Asked if Military intervention was to be undertaken by the Weinamese, Colonel Sai Tu replied that it was not currently being considered to undertake any forceful action, until all facts had been established and that there was reason 'beyond all doubt' to commit Weinamese military power to solving the crisis. Colonel Tu did however say that Athara Magarat was welcome to establish lines of communication with Weinam, should it need help of all forms and that Weinam would simply watch the situation until such communication took place.

In the same meeting, Colonel Tu also commented that Gael was to also be monitored among tensions between Balnik and several Gael nations. Weinam would support it's friends in Gael and ask Balnik to consider it's actions 'very carefully', stating that the whole world is watching and will not tolerate any aggressive action or threat made by Balnik towards the Gael region.

Former president Michael Palmer dies in hospital, aged 89

Image
Michael Palmer, who served as Almorea's 41st President from 1999 to 2005, pictured at his Inverfar home in 2018

INVERFAR- Michael Palmer, who served as the 41st President of the Federal Union from 1999 to 2005, died this morning in a hospital near his home in Inverfar in Talavora province, according to a press release from the Almorean government.

The former president was taken to St. Archangel Uriel Hospital in Inverfar shortly after 5:45 AM, having collapsed after rising from his bed. Mr. Palmer was reportedly unresponsive upon arrival at the hospital, and died of cardiac arrest within half an hour.

Mr. Palmer was born at Moreheath in northern Queensland province on September 13, 1930, and enlisted in the army in 1946 to fight against Magarati and other forces during the closing stages of the Imperial War. In 1959, he began a long political career as a member of the Queensland provincial legislature, eventually rising to the national Congress as a conservative Federalist. After serving in the Senate from 1981 to 1993, Mr. Palmer became secretary of state in the 1990s and was elected to the presidency in 1998.

His presidency, which lasted from 1999 until 2005, saw the infamously expensive 2000 Festival of the Republic as well as an unsuccessful attempt to pull Almorea out of the League of the Western Isles in 2002-03. Mr. Palmer's more successful initiatives included an anti-crime push in 1999 that saw the shooting and arrest of over 1,000 cartel members in Gray Hills, as well as a tax reform package passed by Congress in 2004.

After his retirement, Mr. Palmer lived overseas before returning to Almorea in 2010. In 2012, he bought a fifty-acre estate in Inverfar, where he lived until his death.

President Alasdair Hallowell released a statement this afternoon praising his predecessor as "a great Almorean" and "a man who served his nation loyally for decades, first in the Imperial War, then on the legislative front lines, and finally as president." Sen. Jon Fitzlane (F-Frasyrland), the presiding officer of the Senate, paid tribute to his fellow Federalist as "a true conservative" who was among the first to champion the anti-crime platform adopted by every Almorean administration of the 21st century.

As a former president, Mr. Palmer is entitled to a state funeral, which is expected to occur in Ellsburgh in June or July. A spokesman for Carldon Hall said that the funeral will involve military assets, but that preparations have not advanced beyond the preliminary stage.

In his last interview, granted in December 2019, the former president said that the current Almorean leadership is "misguided", and that the country's liberal politicians must avoid socialist policies.

"Socialism is the evil which has haunted Almorea for a hundred years," Mr. Palmer said at the time. "Now, we see these developments. The President [Hallowell] talks about a big budget, free drugs, more welfare, higher taxes. And our economy at the end of this decade is not good. It is difficult to govern Almorea. I just wish he would call more often so I could give him advice."

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth, as well as six children.

Fistfight turns into clan war with at least 10 deaths

Image
Bikram Bharinyal and Numa Maranyeli

GHALE GAUN, SECOND TAMUWAN HANGATE

At least ten people have been killed in the conflict between the Bharinyal and the Maranyeli (literally "of Marian descent") clans (and their allies) in Ghale Gaun, Tamuwan. Mr Hari Bahadur Lhenge Kon, the Mayor of Ghale Gaun and a respected 91 years old Imperial War veteran, said that the incident was started by a fistfight on May 26th.

"On the evening of May 26th, Mr Bikram Bharinyal (who is of Iza descent and born in Corindia but adopted into the Bharinyal clan) went to the Maranyeli clan's baha. Mr Bharinyal had apparently got 17 years old Numa Maranyeli pregnant. The leaders of Maranyeli clan in Ghale Gaun invited Mr Bharinyal to their baha. Mr Bharinyal, however, did not go alone and brought his 15 friends from the university in Ghan Pkhara (the capital of Tamuwan which is 12 km away). His friends were mostly non-Tamus and a few adopted ones like himself."

"Our witnesses stated that the meeting between the two sides went smoothly initially until one of the clan leaders (who is believed to Ms Maranyeli's uncle) asked him if he was after their clan's wealth (the Maranyeli clan own major shares in Ghale Gaun Soda Factory and own several properties in Athara Magarat, Keomora, Dragao do Mar and New Totzka). Ms Maranyeli's uncle then called Mr Bharinyal an 'adopted immigrant' and hurled insults directed at the latter's Iza heritage. Mr Bharinyal's friend Ram Praja, a Chathaese man with San Montagnan citizenship, had apparently replied back the irony of the Maranyeli clan being descendants of Marian immigrants adopted by the Ghale clan as members of the Tamu nation. The clan leaders then demanded Mr Praja's identity and then labeled him a 'terrorist' after finding he was a Praja. There were further exchange insults which turned into fistfights. Mr Praja was cut down with swords while a third friend, who was later identified as John MacArtair (the grandson of Magarati diplomat to the League Thomas MacArtair), was shot dead by the Maranyeli men. Mr Bharinyal and his friends remaining barely managed to escape the Maranyeli clan baha."

"On the morning of May 27th, an armed group of Bharinyal men and his friends led by Mr Bharinyal himself (who apparently obtained the guns from Aprosian gangs) entered the Maranyeli clan baha and opened fire in revenge. Two Maranyeli men died in this attack. The Maranyelis brought their Ghale allies (who this small city is named after) to the gunfight. Reports indicate that five more individuals, including Mr Bharinyal and another friend of his, were killed in this shoot-out."

"The Ghale Gaun Police has been working to curb the violence but we are undermanned here. Despite our best efforts, the Maranyelis and their Ghale allies still continued clashing with the Bharinyals and their allies. The Ghale Gaun Police broke apart at least 20 different fights between the two sides on May 27th and today. Unfortunately, yet another man was beaten to death this morning. I urge all sides to restrain themselves. Representatives from both the Tamuwani government and New Libang told me that they would be sending investigators. I am afraid we will be needing more than just investigators."

APF deployed in Ghale Gaun after 3 more deaths; conspiracy theorists suggest GGSF-Praja rivalry behind clan war

Image

GHALE GAUN, SECOND TAMUWAN HANGATE

Three days after the Bharinyal-Maranyeli shootout at the latter clan's baha, the death toll from the conflict between the Ghale-Maranyeli alliance and the Bharinyal clan (and their allies) has reached 13.

The Magarati central government has deployed the Armed Police Force of Athara Magarat after Ghale Gaun Police were unable to contain the situation. The Magarati government has stated that it will be "forced to deploy the army" if all sides do not come to an agreement. Mayor Hari Bahadur Lhenge Kon, a respected 91 years old veteran of the Imperial War (and the first elected politician in Ghale Gaun who was not from either the Ghale or the Maranyeli clans), also expressed his concerns and displeasure at the fact that the situation had spiraled out of control.

The Ghales are the only 'ancient Tamu clan' whose name does not have double words (for example: double-word Lhenge Kon is an ancient clan while single-word Bharinyal is a newer clan). Most of the rulers of Second Tamuwan Hangate were Ghales and they had even established their own Ghale Hangate in medieval times. Both Ghale Gaun and Ghan Pokhara (which is corruption of 'Ghale Pokhara') The prestigious Ghale clan also owns the Ghale Gaun Soda Factory, one of the largest chemicals producers in the Isles. At present, there are around 4,000 Ghales across the Isles (mainly located in Athara Magarat and Dragao do Mar). The Maranyelis (literally "of Marian descent") were immigrant families from Dragao do Mar adopted by the Ghales into the Tamu nation. They historically served as most loyal vassals of Ghale hangs (be it leaders of Second Tamuwan Hangate or Ghale Hangate) and were called "Ghale-Shields" by other Tamu clans. The exact numbers of Maranyelis are hard to determine as all immigrant Marian families adopted into the Tamu nation were called that but estimates range this clan as having anywhere from a couple thousand members to 10,000+ clansmen. In contrast, the Bharinyals in contrast are a small clan with barely 100 individuals. The Bharinyals are joined by their allies such as the Bhatales and various other smaller Tamu clans who have traditionally been against the Ghale-Maranyeli dominance in this conflict.

As for non-Tamu clans, various Magarati Nyssic families and the Prajas of Chatha have declared their support for the Bharinyals and other smaller Tamu clans. While the MacArtair clan head Thomas MacArtair, the Magarat ambassador to the League whose grandson John was shot dead by Maranyeli clansmen, has called for restraint and demanded members of his clan to "forgive and move on"; the Prajas were not quite forgiving about the death of Ram Praja. Both John MacArtair and San Montagnan-citizen Ram Praja were friends of the deceased Bikram Bharinyal and their fourth deceased friend (and the only woman do have died so far) has now been identified as Nabina Bhatale. The Bharinyal clan has stated that it will soon reveal the names of Bharinyal men (other than Bikram) who died in May 27th whereas the Maranyeli clan has refused to reveal the names of their two clansmen who died in the shootout. Although not confirmed by the Maranyeli clan, Ghale Gaun Police have stated the man who was beaten to death on May 28th was also a Maranyeli. Since then, the three additional deaths have been a Bhatale couple and a Ghale man.

While the Herald was not able to verify the claims, Chathaese news media reported that stores owned by ethnic Tamus were being targeted. Sources claim that Tamu stores in Purano Mandali, Eastern Chatha were vandalized after a local Chathaese politician incited an angry mob to "beat these [bleep]s who killed a son of Chatha".

Meanwhile, conspiracy theorists on the internet state that the Bharinyal-Maranyeli clan war is actually a secret war between the rival chemicals producing giants Ghale Gaun Soda Factory (owned by the Ghales) and the Praja Group (owned by the Prajas). "This is pretty obvious. GGSF and Praja Group are in state of war and they are using the Maranyelis and the Bharinyals in their war as proxies," said internet conspiracy theorist 'MeiHuM@1'.

EXPLOSION ROCKS TEIKONG SUBURB - MANY FEARED DEAD

Image
Many are fearing a terrorist attack

A Teikong suburb is this morning shocked by a sudden mass explosion that is feared many have died. The suburb on the outskirts of Teikong city is mostly inhabited by Athara Magarati nationals who have lived peacefully in Weinam for many years. The explosion, which was recorded at 07:10am this morning, was believed to have started from an empty house in the densely populated area of Kawlun. Firefighters were called to the explosion just after 07:15am to what was believed was a gas explosion. Once emergency services started to arrive, several smaller explosions were also reported within the same area. Police officers have evacuated the immediate areas of the explosions as Firefighters continue to fight fires in and around the area.

There are reports of multiple confirmed deaths, although the exact number is not yet known as emergency services are still trying to bring the situation under control. The Fire & Rescue Service believe this to be a deliberate act as no gas sources has yet been identified and there is no obvious cause of the explosions. The Teikong Police have warned people to stay away from the area and those affected by the ongoing situation are receiving help from the emergency services. The nearby hospitals and medical centres are currently on high alert as it's expected that injured people will start to be transported to them from the scene.

While the exact cause of the explosions are not yet known, many people are speculating that this was an act of terrorism against the Magarati's in their current ongoing situation against rebel groups. It seems that only the Magarati people were targeted and no other attacks have been reported in Weinam. The Teikong Police Chief has issued a statement that the situation is currently being controlled and the cause will be investigated and determined as soon as possible. There is currently no cause for alarm and all security measures are being undertaken to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.

Aprosia Daily

— 2nd of June, 2020 —
Council of Federal Economic Affairs pledges to continue supporting business amidst reform

DAŠARÓD, DAŠARÓD CAPITAL REGION

The Council of Federal Economic Affairs released a statement today following a scheduled assembly of the Federal Government of Aprosia, pledging that the Council will continue to support established and emerging Aprosian businesses amidst continued economic reform and increasing globalization of the Aprosian economy. With the economic liberalization lasting until August of next year and success all around, the Council will begin to divert funds from the old economic subsidy system to a novel system of startup funds and assistance funds, suitable for the socialist market economy.

The System of Economic Direction and Funding of the Council of Federal Economic Affairs has been the principal system of economic funding and subsidising of the Aprosian People’s Democratic Union since its founding in 1978 and has been a key component of Aprosian socialism and the rebuilding of the Aprosian national economy. Following the introduction of the socialist market economy as presented in Aprosian socialism, the system has seen less and less funding however, as the economy is moving towards a much more liberalized structure, no longer requiring hundreds of billions of subsidies from the Federal Government and the national governments of the Union. In 2019, the System of Economic Direction and Funding had a total budget of 1.72 trillion márks, equivalent to $53.1 billion. Following the restructuring, the Council of Federal Economic Affairs seeks to reduce this budget to little over trillion márks or $32.2 billion.

What the reformed System of Economic Direction and Funding seeks to accomplish is continued economic growth throughout Aprosia and the continued growth of Aprosian native economic assets, including former national enterprises and startups of Aprosian citizens. Before the start of the 500-Day Program, the Regional Trade and Economic Agreement organization, while predicting a massive success for the Program, also feared for the fate of the native economic assets amidst the growing globalization of the Aprosian national economy. Despite these fears and with actions by the Council of Federal Economic Affairs, a wave of bankruptcies by native Aprosian companies has started and economists have stated that with sufficient assistance, a mass wave of bankruptcies in Aprosia is unlikely.

The new System of Economic Direction and Funding is expected to be taken in use in July, with the old model continuing to be in use until the 1st of July.

16 Dead in Bush Plane Crash, Firestorm Threatens Int'l Park
Image
Crews are desperately containing the firestorm's spread.

According to sources within eastern Martenyika, an Awaken Air turboprop passenger plane crashed this morning shortly after takeoff from Royal Savannahs Airport, which services the nearby Royal Savannahs International Park. The bush plane managed to gain some altitude and distance from the runway when, according to air traffic controllers, the pilot reported a catastrophic engine failure. One controller relayed the timeline of events saying "when we received the mayday transmission, we could hardly process it and answer before we saw the plane crash into the trees in a terrible fireball."

The crash and ensuing fires are believed to have caused the death of all 16 onboard. Records indicate that among the occupants were four Aizconan nationals, and other foreign tourists concluding their expeditions at Royal Savannahs. Along with these deaths are those of several Martenyikans onboard including the pilot and co-pilot.

Awaken Air is a bush airline marketing itself as a way to "experience a spiritual rejuvenation as you witness the rising of the sun over the great savannahs, or be One at peace as it sets." The relatively new airline mostly operates small turboprop airliners of the same type which crashed, during morning and evening hours. Theories and accusations have spread online, including some theories which blame a Corindian and Remodian for sabotage based on suicidal sentiments posted online. However Awaken also faces serious questions about its maintenance procedures as well as its business practices and culture.

Authorities have been unable to reach the crash site due to a firestorm ultimately caused by the crash. Fire and park environmental officials confirm that an explosive crash was a worst case scenario. At a time when both fire and park personnel were concerned about dry flora and unpredictably strong winds, the crash provided fuel for a perfect firestorm. One fire official from the region pointed out that "when the conditions are right, like they have been, the fire can spread and jump all around, even creating its own microclimate--it's very dangerous and destructive."

Park employees are actively helping firemen alongside the Gendarmerie's local patrols to protect the flora, fauna, and humans inside the park. Although the area outside the park is sparsely populated, authorities say that the fires have already swept through numerous businesses, residences, and campsites. As of yet the International Parks and Nature Organization (IPNO) has yet to make a statement.

Can the government do anything at all about the Capi families?

FLEROSIA, ESTRIAN ISLAND

Image
An example of a mansion owned by the Deromi Family

Since the inception of the Commonwealth of Austrenyan Provinces in 1802, organised crime has been a major issue in the eastern portion of provinces. Across Estria, families such as the Deromis and the Sicilyas quickly grew into huge players in organised crime, and often dabble in Austrenyan politics, quickly being referred to as Capi families, or Boss families. Often, Capi families work for extremist groups for protection and intimidation, often antagonising more centralist party members. Their alleged involvement in money laundering, some assassinations and other major crimes that have gone largely 'officially' unsolved by the Austrenyan police forces have left the public feeling betrayed by the government and often the administration of the provinces of the east such as Flerosia and Laburria has been described as "unreliable" at best. Ultimately, it has been an issue which has crippled the nation for decades, however President Giobrelli Kallione has been determined to get to the bottom of such a sinkhole.

Image
Kallione struggles to answer the Capi Question

President Kallione had several press briefings over the past fortnight to meet his campaign rhetoric in 2018 of "stamping out violent, organised and sinful crime", yet has barely produced any solid answers on how to properly tackle the issue. Whist some less credible sources have been claiming that Kallione has been bribed by an unknown Capi family, many speculate it's his geniune fear of organised Capi crime which is leading to a sudden shift in character from the usually charismatic Kallione. This, coupled with the decentralised system in which the various state police forces operate under, makes organised crime in Austrenya a rather easy job to get away with, if you have the steel nerve and time.

The main opposition party to Kallione's Christian Democratic Front, the Marzo in poi - a socialist party which has existed since 1956 - has declared its full suport for the President, but expect to see more "definitive results" by the time his tenure ends in 2022. High Minister Marco Devici has also pledged his endorsement for Kallione to take a stronger stance on the Capi families, despite calls to resign over his involvement with the Deromis during a party in 1993. Only time will tell if Kallione stamps out organised crime in Estria, but we'll be with you every step of the way!

MISSING MAGARATI GIRLS' BONES FOUND DEEP IN GREAT LORASON FOREST

Image
A map of Roendavar's forests and the Thasmon Line. Site 13 is indicated.

During an expedition by the Great Lorason Forest Agency (ALLF) at Site 13, Expeditionary Unit 4 (EU-4) accidentally found the bones of the missing Matrubhumi girls in a cave close to the Draculenea Mountains, ending a year-long investigation by the ALLF and the Roendavarian government. The recent discovery has since thrust the case back to the light, along with many other cases of disappearances within the Great Lorason Forest.

At around 2:36 P.M. on the 5th of June, EU-4 arrived at Site 13. Site 13 is a quadrant approximately between the headwaters of the Stenon River and the border between Roendavar and Dormill and Stiura along the Draculenea Mountains. The team came across a series of Solutional Caves of Ramiform structure, characterized by spacious rooms and branching passageways. Radio conversation between EU-4 and the ALLF headquarters at Dociara confirmed them to be undocumented and the team was given clearance to explore. On the 6th of June at around 9 A.M., two of the team's explorers came across a spacious cavern with bones. Initial reports by the team concluded them to be animal bones however, upon further inspection, one of the explorers identified several human bones and skulls. This prompted the entire team to conduct a full investigation.

A full investigation uncovered 21 identifiable whole human skulls. Identification, clothes, and other paraphernalia found in the cavern confirmed that 19 of the 21 were the Grade 10 Matrubhumi students along with their teacher who arrived in Roendavar on July 4, 2019. They were on a tour of Gael as winners of the 'School of Vendriothos' competition. The remaining 2 skulls are unidentifiable but speculated to be missing humans as well from nearby towns and cities.

This has prompted a reopening of the case of the Matrubhumi students and the nature of their disappearances. Prior conclusions by the Roendavarian Police stated that the delegation 'must have wandered into the woods and got lost'. However, the ALLF suggests otherwise, stating that several watchtowers were present near Stenon River and thee would be no reason for them to have wondered so far deep into the Thasmon Line. An animal attack was also dismissed as a reason as, quote, 'no pack of animals, no matter how large, could have dragged the bodies of 19 people deep within the Great Lorason Forest'.

Speculations by the Roendavarian Ministry of Investigation was that the students and their teacher were killed by humans. Further evidence of this speculation was provided by observations of the EU-4 of the human skulls, which had no damage nor scratches on them. Despite the Great Lorason Forest's isolation, there are no known barbaric tribes within the forest as of record. Thus, the crime would have been perpetrated from organizations outside of the forest according to the Ministry of Investigation.

In light of the discovery, the High Council, along with the King, is to draft a plan on how to deal with the current cases of disappearances in the Great Lorason Forest. The ALLF ramps up its expeditionary teams from an initial seven teams to ten teams. Border and internal watchtowers were also ordered to remain vigilant and report any unusual behavior involving the Great Lorason Forest and its surroundings. The Ministry of Investigation has also decided to put the cases as a priority.

The Magarati government has been informed of the discoveries according to the Ministry of Foreign Relations. They have yet to comment on the situation.

Bush Plane Crash Fire Contained, Investigation Finds IPNO Advocate Dead

Following several days of intense firefighting both inside and outside of Royal Savannahs International Park, crews were finally able to secure the site of the crashed Awaken Air bush plane on Sunday. The firestorm proved difficult to master, even burning numerous kilometers of park land before it was effectively contained. Investigators now have had time to evaluate the crashed plane, which was operated by bush airline Awaken Air. Curiously, investigators have identified one of the bodies onboard as Anita Maranyeli, an International Parks and Nature Organization advocate concluding her expedition within Royal Savannahs. Ms. Maranyeli is a Magarati native who devoted her life to the IPNO starting in 2005. Whether or not this new revelation has any bearing on the cause of the crash itself, the crash does raise questions to the IPNO about Royal Savannahs' infrastructural safety...READ MORE >>>

Almorean rapper Big Juicy beheaded in freak concert accident

Image
Big Juicy, real name Travis Oronsay, at a concert at Cobra King Stadium, Baranor province, on August 20, 2019

MILLBURGH HEIGHTS- Well-known Almorean rapper Big Juicy, real name Travis Oronsay, was decapitated in a freak accident on Thusday evening in a stadium in Roonmore province, according to entertainment media reports.

The rapper was giving a performance at Millburgh Heights Arena, the first stop in his "Rap King 2020" tour which was expected to take him across Almorea. Mr. Oronsay, aged 27, had just arrived on stage when the stadium's rigging collapsed on top of him.

Mr. Oronsay was decapitated by a piece of metal while diving away from the falling debris, according to cellphone videos captured by attendees. The crowd screamed in horror, and fans and stadium security rushed onto the stage. Although an EMT team arrived within minutes, it was clear that the rapper was dead.

Fans picked up Mr. Oronsay's head and threw it into the crowd. It was later recovered by stadium staff. Two were arrested for the stunt, which Mr. Oronsay's estate has described as "absolutely disgraceful".

Mr. Oronsay, who rapped under the name Big Juicy after graduating from a Roonmore high school in 2011, gained fame in 2014 for his single "I'm the Big Daddy", which reached the top of the Almorea Top 40 index for five days. Mr. Oronsay's brand of humorous trap rap gained further attention in 2016 when his album "Rap King 2016" was certified gold. The rapper's third studio album, "Big Juicy In Da House", was certified platinum in 2019.

The rapper was known for a lavish lifestyle that was frequently publicized by Almorean tabloids. After his platinum certification, he was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct. In January, he seriously injured a middle-aged woman with his car while driving in Valesavan. In a settlement reached three weeks before his death, Mr. Oronsay was ordered by a judge to pay $1.6 million in damages.

He was also something of a philanthropist, however. Mr. Oronsay donated $500,000 to build schools in Roonmore province in 2017, and collaborated with other Almorean celebrities to provide aid for victims of starvation after food stamp shortages in Gray Hills.

Mr. Oronsay's death was greeted with expressions of sadness from many of his fellow artists. The rapper Ice Killah, who collaborated with Mr. Oronsay on several albums, tweeted 400 sad emojis followed by, "RIP Big Juicy". Singer Jake Benton, who reached the highest spot in the Top 40 with a single that featured Mr. Oronsay, said that he was "beyond saddened and dismayed" by the rapper's passing, and promised to release a song honoring him. Juicy Entertainment, the recording company founded by Mr. Oronsay in 2019, has not yet commented on the rapper's death but is likely to enter administration.

Mr. Oronsay is survived by his parents, as well as by three daughters from two different women.

Elections conclude; Boyce's Liberals face yet another crushing defeat
Image
President Boyce addressing the press the morning after his party's historic defeat last night.

BRIDGETOWN - Going into last night's general election, the vast majority of pollsters and experts expected a Republican victory, but few expected the level of dominance that Republicans appeared to have on the minds of voters going into the elections for the House of Representatives.

In the third year of his five-year term, President Ellis G. Boyce's style of leadership has proven unpopular among voters. The Press estimated that the Liberals would lose the slim congressional majority they maintained in the 2018 election, but never predicted the losses that the party ended up suffering. Entering this election with a slim majority of 104 in the 205-seat Congress, the Liberals will be entering their next term with only 60 seats to their name.

This election marks the second straight net loss for the Liberals in a general election; the party lost 20 seats in 2018, though maintained a slim majority alongside President Boyce's solid defeat of incumbent President Washington (R).

Image
A diagram of the new makeup of the House. The Liberals, with 60 seats, lost 44 seats.

Experts attribute the stunning Liberal defeat to two main factors. Firstly, as Bridgetown University political scientist Carol Simmons notes: "the Boyce Administration's lack of assertiveness on its own platform has made many swing voters disheartened. There are many critiques that could be given to the last two administrations, but in both cases a platform was executed, for better or for worse. Boyce has seen very little progress in both advancing his own platform and appealing to right-leaning voters."

"That's definitely true," says the Press' editorial board chief. "By no means has the Boyce administration echoed the disaster of the nation's last true liberal President, Gio Caprice, but both he and his Congress have failed to bring about the progressive change that was promised."

These accusations were common on the campaign trail, but Boyce's Liberals stood firm in their belief that the country has seen a shift to the left since Boyce's 2018 election. Campaigning congressmen have cited new gun control legislation, as well as strict crackdowns on gambling among small-village youth on the island's north-side. Right-leaning critics state that the gun control legislation either goes too far, or was Draconian in its forceful confiscation without reimbursement. Moderate Republicans who have shown support for stricter gun control regulations have stated sharp opposition to the administration's refusal to institute a buy-back program; they vow to work cross-aisle with similarly critical Liberals and Progressives to reimburse individuals who have had banned firearms confiscated without reparations.

Dissent within the Liberal bloc led to last-year's foundation of the Progressive Alliance, a party that within just one year grew to be the most competitive third-party in Kings Gil Drum history. Their youthful energy and spirit snatched the hearts of lifetime-Liberal voters and, appearing on the ballot for the first time this election, they grabbed eleven seats; nine of those seats were either a defeat of a Liberal or a defection from the Liberals. Two were gains from previously-Republican districts. The splitting of the Liberal vote with the Progressively Alliance, experts say, was the second factor behind the Liberal defeat.

"There is no doubt that the Republicans won this election," Carol Simmons says, "but they most definitely got some help from the Progressives. For sure."

Now, President Boyce must move forward into the second half of his term with vastly unfavorable positioning. This sort of defeat of the incumbent President's party is nearly unprecedented, paralleled only by the 2015 Republican losses and the Liberal losses of 1985. Both of those cases saw historic sweeps in the following Presidential election, a statistic that doesn't bode well for the President Boyce. His campaign team must be aware of this reality, but they should also understand that President Boyce's positioning is much different than both Washington and Caprice; said presidents were hard-nosed, firm, no-prisoners; Boyce has been the opposite. His desire for bipartisanship has made him appear indifferent and fluid in his views, pushing away much of the non-establishment of his party.

Moving forward will be difficult for this administration, but not impossible. As the new Congress seeks to take office, President Boyce's future largely rests in the hands of his party's ability to work its agenda to fruition in a Republican-dominated congress. The chances are perhaps not great, but not impossible.

Fire devastates Sandy Ground slums, Congress working on relief package
Image
A photo of the fire in Sandy Ground from last Sunday.

SANDY GROUND - The eastern coast town of Sandy Ground was struck by major tragedy this weekend as the village's coastal slums were set ablaze, resulting in a raging fire that destroyed millions of florins in property and left at least eight people dead, with several more injured.

Sandy Ground, well-known nationwide as a cultural hub for ethnic Drummers, has the highest percentage of indigenous peoples of any major city or town in Kings Gil Drum. Fifty-three percent of residents are at least half-Drummer, while the vast majority of the remainder of that proportion has English ancestry. Over seventy percent of those residing in the Sandy Ground "slums" are estimated to be ethnic Drummers, making them the most effected racial group by the fires, which began Friday night and continued through Sunday.

Investigators have not conclusively determined a source of the fire, but a racially-charged act of arson wouldn't be unprecedented: Sandy Ground's reputation of ethnic diversity, particularly in its slums, has made it a hot spot for increasing racial violence over the last two-and-a-half decades. Since the indigenous suppression realizations of the 1990s, acts of violence both in protest of and support for anti-indigenous sentiments have seen increases in Sandy Ground; the 2008 Sandy Ground and Saint Thomas Bombings have long been thought to have been racially charged, and the violent 2014 Saint Thomas riots were led and escalated by a large group of Sandy Ground residents.

President Boyce has declared a state of emergency in Sandy Ground in hopes to direct a bulk of immediate aid in the town's direction, but in addressing the crisis last night promised to go further. "Our aboriginals have been subjugated to slums and low-income areas for sixty years, making them naturally more at risk to events such as these just as much as higher risks in health," he says.

The statistics support the President's claim. On average, aboriginals live 2.3 years less than their white counterparts, and their median income is substantially less. In response to this, the President announced that he will be seeking a historic aid package in the form of a new aboriginal support initiative, seeking to assist ethnic Drummers in getting affordable education and stable incomes.

"The President and his party have the opportunity to demonstrate an ability to take firm leadership in a way we haven't yet seen from this administration," Progressive Alliance leader Dua Carabello-Canto told the Press, "at the moment, it appears President Boyce is coming through." Ms Canto proceeded to note that an expanded welfare system for Drummers has been part of the Alliance's platform since the party's conception last year.

Without the majority of the last two years, Boyce's Liberals must now find a way to get this program through a Republican-dominated Congress. Even with Progressive Alliance backing, such a coalition lacks the congressional majority necessary. It will be a tall order for Liberal congressional leaders to grab Republican votes, but not impossible; there are enough moderate Republicans in Congress who could potentially swing in favor to make it possible, though such is still a highly daunting task with the number of Powellian Republicans in the House's ranks. Whether it manages to become a reality or remain a progressive dream is yet to be seen.
