MONARCHY OFFICIALLY ABOLISHED - TRANSITIONAL AUTHORITY ESTABLISHED, REPLACING EINRHAME

08/11/19
ONLINE RENDITION

Over the course of this week, members of the Räichstag have been voting on the Constitutional Amendments for the Patriotic People and Workers of Austrovik-Germania, which was laid out by Minister-President Henri Einrhame, to the surprise and dismay of the Adolphe-Jean royal family. The armed forces and the public sector have also been praising the move to remove the monarchy.

On Wednesday, the Amendments officially passed through the Räichstag, with the Royal Conseil mutinying against King Adolphe-Jean I and officially making the monarchy defunct. On early Thursday morning, the former royal family were placed under house arrest to protect them against republican protestors and the National Transitional Authority of Defence was placed in power in the Räichstag building on 7:18AM by Minister-President Henri Einrhame.

However, in a major turn of events, the new Transititional Government voted to remove Henri Einrhame in fear of him being a 'power hungry, corporate stooge'. Instead, the new Chairman of Interim Authority, Etienne Victor, as head of state and government. The new Authority immediately established a nation curfew, and also increased numbers of patrolling armed police officers across key pro-monarchy, more right-leaning areas.

The National Transitional Authority of Defence has already began writing the Fifth Constitution of Austrovik-Germania. Major reforms are rumoured to be incuded in the new constitution, including a clause on the rights of the people, the allowance of multiple parties besides the Sozialistesch Nationalfront to run in elections, and also the freedom of international press to report in Austrovik-Germania. Chairman Victor made this statement in a small press briefing on the steps of the Räichstag building this evening, with the cold Austrovik wind clearly giving His Excellency quite a cold:

"It is important, imperitive, some would say, the Austrovik Integral Socialism to survive well beyond the 21st Century. However, the workers and people of the nation cannot complete this goal if they are bound by the shackles of an old, corrupt and oppressive system, with a leader 'for' the people simply a puppet of the monarchy's wishes. Going forward, I wish to build a brighter, more prosperous Austrovik-Germania, where labourers can come home to their families with smiling faces and food on the table. I wish to see the StNf bound more tightly to the State, to allow the peoples' wishes to be executed without fail. Me and the rest of the Interim Government are working tirelessly to create a new constitution for the new, modern Integral Socialist Federative Republic of Austrovik-Germania. Of course, you may chuckle at the length of such a name, but the Will of the People must be carried out. I will not rest until I have achieved such a goal.

SITUATION IN RASHADAH 'WORRYING' FOR NEW AUSTROVIK GOVERNMENT - PLANS TO ASSIST SOCIALIST FACTIONS UNDERWAY

The new Transitional Authority has also planned to start assisting socialist freedom fighters in their great struggle in the imploding nation of Rashadah, the neighbouring Islamic republic, bordering Austrovik-Germania, which has been the victim of extremist terrorism and violence.

The Transitional Council commented this on the continueing decay of Rashadah:
"The most powerful tool in diplomacy is dialogue, as conducted by our bountiful ally of Nhoor earlier this week when they achieved in getting dates for talks with the government of the Republic Rashadah later this month, but the Will of the People is also a vital tool in the development of the nation. As a result, the Transitional Authority and the succeeding government will spare no thought in assisting its socialist brethren in the fight for freedom against the shackles of extremist Islam and to allow the children of the beautiful nation of Rashadah to grow up in socialist peace and prosperity.

NEW LIBANG, LIBA HANGATE

Thebe Kulung Hang of Khumbuwan has openly declared rebellion against the Athara Magarati government after Khumbuwani forces under his command tried to take over the military base of the Majh Kirat Gun (Infantry). The Magarati Ministry of Defense has released an official statement that the terrorist group Khumbuwan Liberation Army was seen working alongside the local paramilitary Khumbuwan Defense Force, the Khumbuwan Volunteer Force and the Khumbuwani Reserves when they attacked the military base of the Majh Kirat Gun. It is unknown how many fighters were involved on both sides but the defense ministry stated that 30 soldiers of the Majh Kirat Gun were killed.

"The rest have either defected to the rebels or been taken as prisoners. The soldiers of the Majh Kirat Gun were heavily outnumbered." The statement from the defense ministry read.

A senior spokesman for the government said that "he (Thebe Kulung Hang) seeks bloodshed and wants to divide our country. He believes himself to be a strongman. He has declared independence from the federation and wants to rule his own dictatorship."

BOMBING KILLS 61, WOUNDS 19. WORK OF THE WHITE DAGGER FRONT?

At 5:38pm today, on Tolvark Road in the mighty Titan City, a box truck full of explosives jerked off of the road into a small food court in the middle of three stores, and detonated, incinerating anyone in the food court, and nearly leveling the surrounding stores. The death toll has been released as 61, and 19 have been wounded in the bombing, many of the wounded having been on the sidewalk across the street from the food court. More will be released as we learn more information.

Hardcore Honeymoon 2019 Draws Usual Crowds; Hospital Visits Surge

Image

DUDELEJ-KRAJ— Every November, as the South Lakeside and Dudelej-Kraj communities close down the summer tourist attractions, cover up their boats and prepare for the long, cold and dark winter, one resort keeps its lights blazing like a beacon for one final hurrah. Since 1972, the Honeymoon Resort and Hotel on the southwest shore has hosted "Hardcore Honeymoon," the longest-running punk and hardcore rock festival in the nation. Sponsored by the local city council, each year thousands of punk fans from across Central Argus descend on the South Lakeside. The early years of Hardcore Honeymoon could not be more different: throughout the 1970s, the festival was little more than an underground meeting of local punk rock groups, playing in secret and in constant fear of the State Security Bureau discovering and arresting them for "counterrevolutionary music." Nevertheless, as the 1980s rolled around, the restrictions on music that critiqued the government began to loosen, and the festival held its first mainstream event in 1981, drawing a record crowd of 10,000 people over its record three days of runtime. Ironically enough, the 1981 Hardcore Honeymoon was sponsored by the local chapter of the Young Communist League, a group that had denounced the anti-authoritarian and critical nature of punk lyrics as "degenerative" and "counterproductive" for the model Socialist youth. Many punk fans see the strategy of sponsoring the punk scene instead of denouncing it as a way of removing its teeth and taking away the legitimacy of its criticism of the system; turning it into controlled opposition.

Regardless, Hardcore Honeymoon has pulled large crowds to the Resort area consistently for the multiple decades of its "legal" existence. Young talent, anywhere from professional to student bands, constantly vie for the coveted spots on the playbill. Lots of punks from across the country and the region as a whole flock to the Resort as well, bringing a needed boost to the tourism economy in its off-season, but also prompting mixed results from local residents. Some support the festival wholeheartedly, like Comrade Tezim Yefidejef, a local ferryboat operator: "Personally, I think it's fantastic. I used to be a punk rock guy just like these kids, and it was a much different time back then than it is now. I'm glad they have a safer place to enjoy the music that they like—and in our own little beautiful corner of the world, too."
Others, however, don't see the festival in such a positive light. Indeed, it does not come without drawbacks for the local area: alcohol and substance consumption during the festival skyrockets, leading to an overflow of patients at local healthcare facilities for consumption-related ailments and even overdoses. Those patients are joined by the people stuck down in the "mosh pits" during the concerts: a violent and brutal place to be. Despite these drawbacks, though, the high attendance numbers this year mean that Hardcore Honeymoon won't be going anywhere soon.

Trans-Vysnia Motorway nearing completion

Image

One of the newly completed stretches of the Trans-Vysnia Motorway near Whiterock.

ROCABLANCA, VYSNIA - The Trans-Vysnia Motorway is nearing completion as construction crews finish the last ten kilometres east to the M12 along the Lotus Sea. The Trans-Vysnia Motorway is, according to the Ministry of Road and Waterways, "expected to allow travel across Vysnia, from the west to the east, to be more efficient and quicker than the previous two-lane motorways that have been used in the past. The Trans-Vysnia Motorway will be vital to Vysnia's trade and economy, both locally and globally." The completion of the Trans-Vysnia Motorway was one of Prime Minister Karim Hmam's promises to Vysnia when he was elected in 2011 and when he was re-elected in 2016.

MILITARY MOVES IN IN THE ALZETTE AUTONOMOUS TERRITORY AGAINST TERRORIST CELL

During the course of the early morning, the Austrovik Defence Forces moved 1,500 troops into the city of Alzette, within the Alzette Autonomous Territory, to combat the terrorist organistion known as the Alzette Recognition Movement, which had been rioting since the early hours of the evening. It has resulted in two deaths of civilians and 13 injured - mainly from the barrel bombs that have been dropped from flats in the evening and fireworks that have been set off in peoples' homes.

The group, which has been operating since 2011, has recently resurfaced after the arrest of their leader, Al'Mwuada Ahmed-Christoffsen, in late 2013. Calling for the creation of a new republic in the southwest, where there is a prevelant Islamic minority as the movement claims. However, no official census carried out by the government has concluded any sort of Islamic presence in the Alzette region since 1876 and the Last Purge of Natives, which wiped out any Native presence in the southwest regions of the country.

The riots began with the gathering of around 300 terrorist outside the Bundesgebitt Gebai (Federal Territory Building) waving the Islameschebanner (a banned terrorist symbol in Austrovik-Germania), when the police were called. This resulted in a terrorist attacking an innocent policeman trying to contain the demonstration, which lead the firing of rubber bullets by the local police force. The violence continued to escalate as fireworks were hurled at the officers and their vehicles, as well as bricks, stones, and in some cases paintball guns were used, as well as petrol bombs. The Chairman of the Alzette Autonomous Territory, Adoplhe Caiphau, was taken hostage along with his staff within the Bundesgebbit Gebai, and some of the Territory Council were killed.

By this point, the local riot police had lost control over the terrorist activities, and Minister-President Etienne Victor called for 1,500 troops to be stationed in Alzette city by the end of this evening at 7:23AM today.

MINISTER OF INDUSTRY & TRADE CALLS FOR RAEDLON-WIDE "COMMUNITY FREE TRADE PACT"

The Minister of Industry and Trade, Louis Van Dertrapp, claimed that he and the Minister of Economic Development, Victoria Victor, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Markus Honhellzein, were seeking to create what they described as a "Raedlon-Wide Community Free Trade Pact"

'It is clear that the region of Raedlon in the Isles has to be fully able to form a unitary force when defending the rights and the freedoms of its workers and people, especially in the darker stains of the area such as the Islamic Republic of Rashadah. The government of Austrovik-Germania calls for a summit to be held in the near future for all the members of the region of Raedlon, possibly sometime in the ending days of November. It is imperitive that we act effectively and decisively to achieve our aim of creating a more economically unified economic force.' | Said Minister of Foreign Affairs Markus Honhellzein

Suvurnia
Suvurnia urges peace, de-escalation of violence in Athara Magarat

Foreign Secretary Hušán's remarks come as ethnic violence across the highly diverse nation threatens to spiral into a bloody civil war

Image

Violence has broken out within Athara Magarat, with several regional hangs declaring their autonomy from the federal government in New Libang. The first to do so was Thebe Hang of Khumbuwan, a firebrand strongman whose strongly autonomist rhetoric before this decision meant that many saw it not as a question of if but when. The violence has spread to the south of the country as well, with reports of heavy fighting between Chathan and Marubhumi forces following the latter's declaration of independence. It is likely that other Hangs have their own plans in motion, raising the prospects of a broad civil war. Rhula Hang, the leader of the federation following the death of Jrm Hangma, is currently abroad in meetings with Aprosia to try to gain backing from a nation which has shared historical ideological ties to the Magarati state.

Within hours of the news of violence, there were demonstrations in the streets of Tamutown and Sakedik Magar amongst the Magarati diaspora in Suvurnia. While violence was minimal, several shops owned by Khumbuwani and Marubhumi individuals had their windows broken and chants were raised against these groups. The Federation of Magarati Cultural Associations in Suvurnia (FMCAS) issued a joint call for peace and has organised a unity march and vigil, which shall take place in Kembang Park from 7 PM tomorrow. A police presence has also been established at the Magarati consulate, which will cause slight delays to all pedestrian and road traffic along Jalan Libertate.

The regional government's reaction to the crisis has been quick, likely motivated by the unrest in the streets and importance of the Magarati vote in the upcoming elections. In an official speech before the Legislative Assembly, Vardám Hušán declared that Suvurnia was closely following the events taking place. He condemned ethnic violence and separatism in all forms, stating that Suvurnia would not be entertaining any economic relations with any breakaway states. However, he also called for restraint on the part of the central government and stated that "the recent visit by Doamna Rhula Hang to Aprosia shows a worrying course of action, and implies that the government would prefer to seek military aid than alleviate the very problems which caused this crisis in the first place" and that any "backsliding towards authoritarianism would be heavily regretful for the people of Athara Magarat".

While limited in the scope of its foreign activities by the Treaty of Restitution with Scantarbia, this announcement has presented a clear representation of Suvurnia's position on the situation. The government has issued a red grade travel warning for all of mainland Athara Magarat, and called for all Suvurnian citizens currently in the country to identify themselves at the nearest Scantarbian consulate, and make their way back to the country as soon as possible. The red grade means that all travel to mainland Suvurnia needs to be approved by the Office of the Foreign Secretariat The three islands are currently on an orange warning, which just requires informing the foreign secretariat before departure.

Thebe Kulung's niece and her husband arrested for brandish guns at wedding reception

Image

NEW LIBANG, LIBA HANGATE

Binita Kulung, the niece of the Khumbuwani rebel leader Thebe Kulung Hang, has been arrested alongside her newly-wed husband Ankit Bokhim for public display of sophisticated weapons at their wedding. The New Libang Police arrested the couple under provisions of the Firearms Act.

The weapons have been seized and two "former" cadres of the terrorist group Khumbuwan Nation have also been arrested for supplying the guns to the couple.

"At a time when we all should be united, such unfortunate and foolish actions by the niece of the largest rebel group further generate ethnic tensions." A spokeswoman for the central government told reporters in a press conference.

This marriage was considered to be have been held to cement ties between Thebe Kulung and the notorious Lokshom clas. This Khumbuwani clan, alongside their rivals Yorongs, are involved in various criminal activities such as illicit drug trade, gunrunning and human trafficking. Ankit Bokhim is the nephew of the current "family head" of the Lokshom clan. It has been speculated that the government wants to keep the couple as hostages for negotiating the end of the Khumbuwani rebellion.

DOMESTIC: Ainslie marks Nature Walk Day
Sadton, Ainslie

Ministers and Governors all donned ther country campaigning gear - belts, hats and boots - today as the nation participated in an initiative at the forefront of one of Ainslie’s most successful non-governmental organisations. Nature Walk Day, which is run by the International Parks and Nature Organisation every 21st of November, sees thousands of people across the nation and further afield as the organisation’s parks and that of participating authorities remove their entry fees for the day. Deputy PM Thomas Wilton was spotted at Capital Wild Rivers National Park whilst PM Eleane Gifford visited Morrie National Park, north of Arborai, where she held a short press gathering in the Renaiven Parklands at the entrance of the park.

”We’re a people grounded in our land - we’re bushwalkers, skywatchers, stargazers, daydreamers… I just want to thank IPNO for embracing this spirit and being such important and consistent advocates of it. They enable such an Ahnslen day in such a generous manner.”
PM Eleane Gifford

In a departure from previous years, no major policy announcements were made in the environmental portfolio. Instead, there was a very extensive presence - an unprecedented level in recent memory - of various government officials.

It was not just government officials which went to the national parks in their droves. Wesland Ranges National Park had to be closed today due to it reaching capacity shortly after 11am whilst Wild Rivers and Sunset Coast both had to implement alternative travel arrangements to better manage the increased demand.

CEO of IPNO, Xavier Carlene, held a press conference today to mark the day.

“We’ve done some great things, some crazy things and we’re thankful to all those who have facilitated what we have done - whether that be our government partners, our industry friends or our generous donors.”

IPNO also are hoping that the demand today continues into the holiday season, saying in a statement today that there are many deals and opportunities available year-roud.

In following on from this, today also presents an opportunity for a reflection on IPNO’s impact in Ainslie and in the Isles, specifically in their parks.

One of the exciting new additions to the international parks network, administered across multiple nations in the Isles, is the winning park of the Martenyikan International Park Competition. The winner will be incorporated into the network. In a gesture of goodwill, the competing parks have also removed ticket prices for the day and are recording higher than average turnout.

Carlene also highlighted this new development in his press conference.

”We’re excited to have the Martenyikans on board with this and are hoping that the local authorities will be encouraged from today’s turnout to consider increasing their participation in the event.

Species protection is also a key focus for IPNO, with twenty new wildlife corridors being established this year in the Isles to create a noticeable buffer against extensive habitat loss internationally.

However, whilst it has been a successful year, there have been some obstacles. Particularly of note is the difficulties the organisation has had in expanding their operations in Athara Magarat, an issue only likely to grow due to the de-escalating political situation. Furthermore, the ongoing hornet war continues to be pervasive and elusive in its abilities to re-emerge and threaten communities as well as wildlife.

Another dissapointment was in Thuzbekistan, where embargoes prevented the organisation’s ability to establish and develop the multiple outstanding areas of natural beauty that are in the nation. To that end, the organisation is “hopeful of returning soon”, albeit the increasing instability in the nation.

Initiatives such as International Nature Walk Day also provides opportunities for IPNO to recruit both donors and volunteers with Arnton, Arborai, Mandara and other key communities being visited by staff.

INTERNATIONAL: Who’s fighting in Athara Magarat?
Idara, Occupied Territories of The Western Isles

Following the death of Jrm Hangma, a controversial albeit dubiously unifying character, being confirmed, the nation has broken into multiple factions fighting for territory and for power in the nation. The northernmost territory was the first to defect under the leadership of Thebe Kulung Hang of Khumbuwan, an outspoken strongman well known for his criticism of the former administration. He is backed by the local authorities such as the Khumbuwan Defense Force and associated units and are adided by the Lokshom and Yorong clans, groups suspected to have links to international organised crime, who now have overran all the outposts in the area.

To the west and possessing a significantly larger amount of territory than the Khumbuwanis, the Socialist central government under Rhula Hangma consists of the Second Tamuwan Hangate, Liba Hangate and the Hangate of Sinja. They hold sympathy in the Islands of Myagdi, New Forest and Tiwe Sivn who are choosing to remain independent entities until the nation stabilises.

The monarchists currently hold a vast expanse of land to the east of the Central Government’s territory of de facto control and have not yet entered the war.

In the south, the situation is less clear than the north. The Central Government remains to be in a state of fighting retreat, now only holding territory in the far southwest of the nation. The two Chatha states have signalled their intentions to unify despite their diversity. The desertlands of Marubhumi and the fertile Koch Hangates have formed an uneasy alliance as the latter has come to the assistance of the former. They are primarily assimilated Khas-like and Kirati-like people with Ipachi ancestry and are concerned about a possible invasion from Razzgriz who have their eyes on protecting Jaring. Jaring, unlike Koch and Marubhumi remain relatively true to their Ipachi roots and remain close diplomatically to Razzgriz. There remains two exclaves closely linked to the nation and Jaring is aware of the need to occupy the coastline of Koch Hangate to create an ethnic nationalist state.

Religious fundamentalist groups are also known to hold a significant amount of territory in the nation’s southeast with Talvar-i-islamiya and the Islamic State of Marubhumi and Kochila not currently engaged in active conflict. They are highlighted as quite possibly the weakest of the various powers in the nation yet foreign assistance is not unlikely.

Athara Magarat continues to de-escalate and it is likely that the situation will change significantly over time. Stay tuned to Arendai International for more updates and stories related to the nation.

Serial Killer in Kingston

On November 1st two men were found dead mutilated with their genitalia severed and a pentagram drawn on their foreheads with lipstick, today three more were found like this with the only connection being young white men with the same mutilation and markings. She has been nicknamed "the Kingston Devil".

Although there are no definitive answers many suspects have been questioned and many have been helpful in tracking this killer down. Captain Oswald of the KPD has stated that they hope to catch this killer before Christmas. The main suspects are young women with red hair, the KPD are on the job keeping you safe, be careful people of Kingston.

Violence escalates in Athara Magarat; President of the Union dismisses notions of military assistance

The nation of Athara Magarat continues to face civil unrest as the central government continues to lose control of several of the Magarati Hangates. Reports of fighting has surfaced from the north and the south, in wide ranging control of secessionist forces. While the central government maintains control of the westernmost regions and several autonomous entities choosing to remain independent for the duration of the conflict, the northern Hangate of Khumbuwan led by the longtime critic of the central government Thebe Kulung Hang, backed by the Khumbuwan Defence Forces, maintain a strong presence in the north. The southern regions of the country are in a full state of conflict as the central government is forced to retreat from a wide area.

Despite the conflict, the Aprosian People’s Democratic Union has maintained constant communications and relations with the New Libang central government in the manner of socialist solidarity. Relations between the nations have improved with the Magarati Head of State, Doamna Rhula Hang, embarking on a visit to Aprosia from November 17th until November 21st with the visit including improving cultural and ideological relations and reinforcing the importance of sufficient communications and relations between the two socialist federations. Despite the conflict in Athara Magarat, military relations were not a part of the agenda of the visit. Fears of rising authoritarianism and potential Aprosian military assistance to the Magarati central government in the international community rose however.

In an interview with Aprosian national media after the Friday meeting of the Federal Government of Aprosia, President of the Union and General Secretary of the Aprosian People’s Front, Alí Hamaném;

”Despite our overwhelming support for the respectable Magarati nation facing a crisis and our condemnation of the violence in the state, the fact is that the Revolutionary Armed Forces are not in a state of readiness for the conflict. The Revolutionary Armed Forces are still going through the return to a state capable of territorial defence and potential military deployment is not what the Federal Government is ready to commit itself into, or even a subject of the meeting with the Hangma. We hope that the conflict can be solved quickly however, though with the current state in the Magarati state, that possibility seems unlikely.”

With the conflict continuing in Athara Magarat, the official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the state of the country include that the Consulate of the Aprosian People’s Democratic Union in New Libang will continue its activities as normal as long as the security in the city is maintained.

ILLEGAL FISHERS THREATENING OUR MARINE LIFE

by Robert Asimov, 24 November 2019

REGULUS – A whaler factory ship bearing the name MV Cortenaer flying the flag of McHenry’s Port was spotted illegally hunting for Dyke’s whales (Balaenoptera dykei) on the northwestern waters of Scantarbia, near Lotus Sea. The vessel was caught wet-handed while loading a recently fished whale by a Scantarbian Perimeter Patrol Drone operating in the area close to the edge of the EEZ, where illegal fishing usually took place. Several Scantarbian Navy Patrol Boats in the area were dispatched to intercept the vessel, but unfortunately, they managed to escape into international waters where the Scantarbian government has no jurisdiction.

Whaling is a particular threat to the survival of Dyke’s whales; last year alone, they have been categorized as a vulnerable species. Years upon years of whaling have dwindled their numbers in nature, and while Scantarbian government has enacted laws that, in theory, should protect the whales from any kind of fishing in Scantarbian waters, they are still actively being hunted elsewhere. One particular threat came from those who illegally fish on the waters of a foreign nation, in which they are not abiding by any regulations, both regional or international. The Dyke’s whales came to Scantarbian EEZ, attracted by its rife tropical ecosystem that provides the whales with a place to reproduce and species that are part of their essential diets such as planktonic crustaceans, cephalopods, mackerels, oceanic light fish, krills, and sardines. The arrival of the whales also heralded the arrival of the illegal fishers.

Endang Bashuri, Scantarbia’s Minister of Marine Resources, has condemned the attack stated that “any illegal fishers caught in Scantarbian waters will be met with a harsh response.” There are also discussions at both the Board of Ph.D. and Board of Scientists to blow up and sink any captured illegal fishing vessels. They hope that this will deter illegal fishers from attempting to fish in Scantarbian waters. But before it is approved, it is up to the Scantarbian Armed Forces to catch any unlawful fishing vessel operating in Scantarbian waters.

To effectively patrol the borders of Scantarbian EEZ, the Armed Forces employed a network of hydrophones that were part of the Perimeter Defense System built by the Scantarbian government in the late ’80s. The hydrophones help catch acoustic signatures created by any vessel that happens to be near them. The amount of hydrophones deployed helps to triangulate the location of the ship. When the ship that was detected doesn’t match the position of any registered vessel supplied by AIS and GNOSIS, it is concluded that the vessel is operating illegally, and an interceptor team is deployed.

A Scantarbian-based marine conservation society, Sea Guardian, has also deployed two of their custom-built Hammerhead-class high-speed patrol boats, MV Abraham Hess and MV Andreas Volkov, to assist Scantarbian Navy in combating illegal fishers. Built by FrederichSetiawanAlexei, a Scantarbian shipbuilder, the 60-meter-long Hammerhead-class is equipped with four engines, additional long-range fuel tanks, and a helipad. She can reach a top speed of 36 knots, enough to outrun medium-to-light fishing vessels. Their deployment has been welcomed by the General of the Navy, Antonius Bagaskara, quoting him, “We need everyone’s hands on deck if we are going to defend our bountiful marine resources from external parties that are taking them illegally and responsibly.”

Government Speaks out on Athara Magarat's Internal Struggle; Military Assistance Declined

The Hangates of Athara Magarat continue to face serious and horrific violence as the official Magarati government loses control of several hangates. Seessionist forces appear to have rose up in the north and south, with the legitimate government maintining control in the western regions.

Despite having limited contact with the central government in New Libang, the Revolutionary Republic of Austrovia sees it as its duty to protect its socialist brethren and to support it in times of need. Premier Xi Qishan since Wednesday this week has been pressing for meetings between the Republic and Athara Magarat's head of state, Doamna Rhula Hang, after their meeting with Austrovia's socialist partner Aprosia which ended yesterday. When asked about the military assistance question, Premier Qishan said this in an international press conference:

"The Revolutionary Republic of Austrovia pledges its full diplomatic support for the honourable and legitimate government of Athara Magarat. Indeed, we are completely willing to supply New Libang with whatever resources we can offer that our socialist comrades need, but direct military intervention could risk prolonging the conflict and also could risk escalating the violence. We will be of course trying every method possible to defend the interests of socialism and the government of Athara Magarat."

Scandal engulfs Almorean trade officials days before Austrovian summit

Image
President Alasdair Hallowell reflects after awarding the Medal of Valor to Air Force personnel in Nockarsh, Gavshin province, on November 25, 2019

ELLSBURGH- Scandal engulfed the Trade Department today, forcing several top officials from their posts amidst swirling allegations of Magarati bribe payments, as President Alasdair Hallowell prepares to depart for a Raedlon trade summit in Austrovia.

Leaked e-mails exchanged in August between top trade officials, obtained by the Almorean Press Association, reveal that Magarati companies funneled over $1.9 million in illicit payments into the Almorean government in order to ensure progress on Almorean-Magarati trade talks, with the goal of securing a deal known as AMRETA.

Attorney General Dave Merenlaine said in a statement that deputy trade secretary Eloise Frenelle and trade representative Luis Patricks, along with five other officials, received individual payments rising to hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporations including Nagesia-Dhari Limited, Jhangad Cargo, and Khyulpa Line. According to a Justice Department spokesman, the bribes were funneled through Magarati commerce officials.

The Organized Crime Office will open an investigation into the matter, as will the congressional Inspector General, according to multiple sources within the government.

A release from Carldon Hall said that the President had requested the resignation of Trade Secretary Donald Hauke, who has served since January 2018, and has sacked the incriminated officials from their posts. Mr. Hallowell professed himself "deeply appalled" by the leaked e-mails, telling reporters as he walked to his helicopter today that "corruption has no place at any level of government." Mr. Hallowell went on to assert that "this behavior will be punished vigorously".

The scandal is extremely embarrassing for the Hallowell administration, which has effectively been forced to admit that its much-vaunted Magarati trade talks, in progress since last year, are dead. The revelations are also damaging for the Almorean Party as campaigning begins for the 2020 congressional elections. Sources close to Mr. Hallowell say that he is "extremely angry" that the scandal will likely distract from the Raedlon trade summit in Austrovia, which will begin on November 28.

No replacement for Mr. Hauke has yet been announced by Carldon Hall. A new Trade Secretary will likely have to be found on short notice in time to travel to Austrovia, but the procedure is complicated by the fact that so many trade officials were implicated in the scandal. A potential candidate is John Purves, the chairman of the Presidential Commission on Economic Stability, according to multiple sources.

The Vysnian Defence Forces look at purchasing new firearms to replace the outdated B7.

AL-NAKHIL, VYSNIA - The Vysnian Defence Forces are looking at replacing the B7 standard-issue assault rifle. The B7, based on the Kalashnikov platform, and its variants have been in use with branches of the Defence Forces since 1971. Although the timeframe of its usage has proven its durability and reliability, many feel that the B7 is becoming outdated and outclassed. A press release issued on the VDF's website states that "the Defence Forces are considering replacing the B7 assault rifle with newer technology". Some have speculated the B11, in limited usage by special forces, may become the VDF's new standard issue weapon.

Kinahtown Mine Disaster Result of “Negligence and Ignorance,” Miner Widow Claims

Kinahtown - Following Thursday’s disaster at the Kinahtown Coal Mine, Kinahtown Mining Company’s flagship mine, authorities have investigated potential causes for the explosions. It is now known that two explosions occurred shortly after the start of the 3 PM shift, resulting in the death of seven miners. Ten others were injured.

Although investigators are still inconclusive about what caused the incident to unfold, the widow of one of the deceased miners is blaming Kinahtown Mining itself. “My husband told me many times about safety issues and poor job training,” said Dede Sago, widow of Jabir Sago, “the negligence and ignorance comes from the company down into the mine.”

In a press conference today, a company spokesperson denied Sago’s allegations and characterized them as “unprovable hearsay.” Furthermore, the Kinahtown Mining Company maintains that Jabir Sago had not voiced any complaints for a significant period of time before the incident, let alone any regarding safety or training.

Investigating authorities are still trying to establish how and why the second explosion took place. It is possible that the initial explosion happened as a result of methane gas and/or a ventilation system malfunction. However modern safety mechanisms and protocols are designed to prevent secondary explosions and the spread of fires.

The Kinahtown Coal Mine is the oldest continuously operating coal mine in the region, the largest for Kinahtown Mining Company, and is responsible for a large portion of Martenyika’s coal output. The energy market is already reacting to the disaster, but it remains to be seen how it will affect Kinahtown Mining as the situation unfolds.

Brulafi Government Endorses Magarati Government in Civil Struggle;
Presidium Authorizes Military Assistance

Image
Part of a propaganda poster from the Chuli People's Republic era, showcasing friendship between them and Brulafi.

TURBAY- The Presidium of the People's Assembly of Brulafi passed on Friday a sweeping memorandum regarding the issue of Athara Magarat, one that was quickly signed onto by State President Comrade Watson later that day. The stipulations of this document maintain the Brulafi position of recognizing the rightfully-elected government of the late Jrm Hangma, and condemns the splinter factions attempting to sieze power from the People's Government. To this end, the Presidium has promised the use of any military, diplomatic and civil means necessary to protect the Socialist Comrades in Magarat from, in their words, "any armed faction attempting the reactionary work of dismantling the People's Rightful Government." This has come on the heels of increasing civil unrest in the Magarati nation, with the crisis being addressed by the Socialist Worker's Party as "an ideological struggle, requiring the attention and aid of all entities claiming to represent the international Worker," during its Thursday regular sessions.

Outside of party headquarters and other halls of power, the passage of this memorandum has had mixed reactions in Brulafi after its passage. The first worry that many Brulafis, especially more elderly comrades, had when the subject was broached was how similar this process was to the beginning of the Chuli War decades ago. As such, many fear the beginning of another "forever war," or a prolonged counter-insurgency campaign that props up an increasingly faltering state like the Chuli People's Republic became in the later stages of their war. Some have further gone on to fear the mobilization the Partisan Corps or the People's Reserve. These fears were later assuaged in a press brief issued by the office of the State President, though, with the brief stating that "any military action requiring the use of forces other than Active-Duty troops and equipment is firmly not in consideration at this time." Regardless, skepticism remains. The Magarati communities of Brulafi remain similarly split regarding the crisis, with some endorsing the support and others decrying it as a the potential for un-needed and destructive interventionism in their homeland. It remains to be seen just how Brulafi's promise of aid will be received in Athara Magarat, and what will be done with this offer in the months ahead.

Fish Sales Up! A Light in the Dark?

In the past several months, our fine nation has been ravaged by a brutal civil war. The economy, like many things, nearly collapsed entirely under the stresses caused by the violence, but recently, it has begun to revive thanks to an unlikely source. Mokovi Black-Striped Herring, a small fish found off the east coast of the island, has become a surprisingly popular export, bringing in tens of thousands every week. This new influx of money may end up keeping our country in the fight a little bit longer.

Suvurnia eco-protests; Rioter shot dead by the security of the Aprosian consulate, Consulate considers attack a security threat

SUVURNIA SAR, SCANTARBIA

A Suvurnian rioter is shot dead in Suvurnian SAR by a member of security of the local Aprosian consulate reports South Seas Morning Post. The protests, organized by a local ecological organization ‘Pure Earth’, turned violent yesterday evening, following a local rioter throwing molotov cocktails at the local consulate. Being considered a security threat with the less and less peaceful protests surrounding the premises of the Aprosian local consulate, security of the consulate opened fire, resulting in the death of one of the protesters before Suvurnian security appeared on site. The dead, Margerita Thun Beg, was eventually recognized as a member of a local radical nationalist organization.

Local social media reception has been varied, including the Collective Action Suvurnia praising the security for ‘doing the job’ and several people criticizing the security for using live ammunition instead of non-lethal weaponry.

Despite the social media backlash against the action, both the security and the local Consul of the consulate defend the use of lethal power, citing that the molotov cocktails thrown at the consulate were both legitimate and lethal threats, justifying the usage of lethal force to maintain the security of the consulate, especially with the lacking work of the local security forces.
