First legislation of 2019: National Gun Laws
19 January, 2018
Renston, Yorrkon

Yorrkon's 2019 session of parliament has officially been initiated. Delivered on January 11, Chancellor Felton Vince addressed the parliament stating the goals and intentions; with the major components being an exceptionally large funded government renewable energy project, and introducing Yorrkon into international organizations. The address was as follows:

"Thank you for allowing me to drag you all here early this morning. I hope everyone had a wonderful start to the new year. I welcome all new members of parliament to be introduced, arriving from the March Election of 2018. 2018 was an odd-fully eventful year for some, and not so much for others. However, Lets not have any pessimistic periods of time during the 2018 year obscure our envisions and aspirations for the future 2019 beholds before our feet. 2018 may have brought new experiences, new memories, meeting new people, making new friends, and providing new opportunities. Today here in this parliament, I foresee old long while friends, and those soon to be made. For some of you this parliament building we sit in now, stands as your oldest home, spanning a decade or more. I am pleased to see familiar faces, and solemn to witness the spirit of our new family members whom will partake in their first session of parliament. Therefore, while not forgetting our great achievements and memories of 2018; 2019 will bring us forward and upwards closer to reaching the stars.

I have come to review with you the advancements of our beloved country. To speak of uncompleted business domestically and internationally. And to focus on what is to come in the near and not so distant future. I speak today in an hour of good feelings. Pleased to report that our nation is a year stronger than the previous. What creates this considerably peaceful period of time is the citizens themselves. Through the acts of common sense, decency, and underlying courage; the nation stands small in size, but towering in prosperity. For the land belongs to you all. This morning, we can all thank the citizens of Yorrkon.

This year, there are several intentions to begin extensive funding into various fields of study and research, along with the outright beginnings of production and construction. Initiatives will be introduced in parliament to enact a bill, allowing for funding towards renewable energy sources. Specifically through the means of solar power. Harnessing the power of the sun in unique but practical areas around our five provinces, shall allow for twenty five percent of our net-electricity generation by 2026. This will be achieved by placing solar panels along the sides of highways. Introducing overhead shaded structures in all outdoor parking and the tops of parking garages. Urban developments will receive federal grants to apply solar panels on the roofing of houses and apartment complexes. I can report that the Department of Energy is considering the construction of offshore solar farms to expand off utilizing solar energy. The cost of this project is unclear at the moment, but I can assure is certainly feasible.

I must stress that it is important to maintain a formidable reputation among our surrounding peers within our residing sea. I believe it is time for Yorrkon to be introduced into international organizations to expand on our horizons and interests. ACESTI for instance, is a remarkable association fit for research and innovation into new technologies. And through the recent rise in popular opinion; Yorrkon will at last introduce a delegate into the League of The Western Isles. I have appointed Adrian Yorta to fufill this important role of representing Yorrkon on the international stage. I ask for Mr. Yorta to please stand for acknowledgment.

Issues are inevitable to arise. I place my trust in the parliament, my cabinet, the committees, and of course the Yorrkish people to efficiently resolve these disputes. By only through laser disciplinary actions, and complete dedication by us all, can we overcome falling into a rabbit hole of domino effected consequences. Life in 2019 for some will not be easy. It is our duty to work accordingly to bring prosperity to all. We must expand our horizons and not further narrow our isolation. It is essential to seek growth in the economy. Develop renewable sourced technologies for the better of the future. For Yorrkish livelihood, I encourage us all to continue through strength, courage, and honor. Thank you."

In a highly anticipated piece of legislation that has been scrutinized and in the works for the past 16 months has been enacted into law. This of course is the national gun laws, covering the legalities of what may and may not be purchased. Provincial government's, whom for the most part had complete control over the accessibility of civilian firearms, have been reduced to only the eligibility of hunting and specific legalities of methods of purchase. In a resolution to solve the issue of the exceptional ease of access to firearms, the government has believed to have found common ground in a series of licensing and concealment laws. There is no longer a universal firearm license, allowing for the purchase of any firearm type. All citizens must have a license for the specific type of firearms (rifle, shotgun, pistol / handgun). Firearm ranges have been defined as "arsenals", where rifles and shotguns must be stored, and may not be stored in a personal residence. Handling the rifles and shotguns may also only be within the range as well. Handguns, which many would consider the most ideal and practical defense firearm, are able to be stored in a personal residence, and concealed on your person. All types of firearms may be transferred from one arsenal to another across province lines with the correct procedures followed. For current firearm owners, the bill states:

Before 9 January, 2019: "All firearm owners whom have conducted a purchase on record will receive a notice from the province mail system, company the firearm was purchased by, along with the store location of purchase through means of mail and email.
- Notification components for all firearms include: Receiving a certification and license for the type of firearm from the duration of 9 January, 2019 until 9 January 2022
- Owners not receiving a certification and license on record for their purchased firearm will receive a fine of Ꝟ500 for every month up to six months, before law enforcement is warranted a search and seize the owner's personal residence for the firearm, if not surrendered to law enforcement."
After 9 January, 2019: "All future firearm owners will adhere to National Civilian Firearm & Armaments Regulations And Procedures Joint Resolution 2877"

Polls demonstrating the approval rating of the bill by citizens stand at a remarkably high 77%. Supports preach the bill provides rational means of wielding firearms in a modern society that is also morphed towards practical use of defense. Those not in favor consider the bill a violation, not of the right to own a firearm, but of personal property. Restricting the use of firearms to be stored and handled within a range/arsenal is consider a wrong. However, the government considers this to be no different then "No Smoking Zones", which restrict the ability to smoke outside of the designated area. The government as well believes shotguns and rifles are an impractical method of defense when inside a personal residence at close quarters, and should of course never be needed outside of it. Therefore, limiting concealment to only handguns.

BREAKING NEWS - Police confirm van attack was "terrorist linked"

What we know so far:
- Death toll rises to four whilst injuries remain at seven.
- Central Vestvik was evacuated over fears of a bomb
- Another man in his 30s was found dead in the van, killed by the attacker
- The attacker, identified as 33 year old Jon Solskjaer, was killed in a raid in Örbro
- Police believe Solskjaer was a member of a banned far right group
- Apartment in Örbro contained stockpiles of weapons
- Attacker wanted to commit car bomb and gun attacks in Örbro, Kantå and Ausberg.
- He had plans to blow himself up in either the National Assembly building, Örbro Stadium or the Ausbergring racing track during the Ausberg Grand Prix.

14:36pm
This morning police raided an apartment in Örbro after they successfully identified the culprit of Saturday morning's van attack in Vestvik, with the help of a public appeal.

Jon Solskjaer was hiding in a rented apartment in Örbro and was planning to flee to either nearby Creek Islands or further away after investigators found various travel documents. The apartment also contained a huge stockpile of weapons including firearms, ammunition, knives, grenades and various already made bombs and many parts which could have made atleast three more according to investigators.

The apartment was raided "in a swift and accurate manner" where the team's initial intention was to bring Solskjaer in alive. However as the raid commenced, Solskjaer used some of the stockpiled weapons to shoot at the team as they entered. No police officers were injured but Solskjaer was killed by the team.

They found various documents containing plans to commit gun and bomb attacks in some of Korresia's largest cities; Örbro, Kantå and Ausberg as well as pressure cooker bombs, like the one found in the attacker's van, and a suicide vest. According to the documents and a video manifesto, Solskjaer said that his intention was to 'destroy the Korresian state'.

Many of the documents could not be saved as Solskjaer had began to burn them moments before the raid began, but according to lead investigator Carl Hojberg, the apartment was "an intelligence and data goldmine".

Solskjaer most likely had links to other terrorist cells across the world.

Nhoor doctors allowed to prescribe cannabis

Sārruc, 18 January 2019 – From next week on, a number of doctors in Nhoor will be allowed to prescribe cannabis as a therapeutic medicine to patients with certain symptoms. The training that ended today was the first in a series of trainings that will enable doctors throughout the country to get acquainted with cannabis and the ministry of public health will publish a list with the names of the doctors concerned. Patients can take a prescription note to one of the so far fourteen selected pharmacists; this number is still limited but will likely grow in the future, health minister Gerto̦ Je̦ƨaniqh explained.

The Floor (Nhoor’s national parliament) passed legislation in December to make the drug legally purchasable, but the vending places are strictly regulated and pharmacists will have to check with the prescribing doctor in order to make sure that the prescription is genuine and issued for the correct reasons, a procedure that will cost time.

Several pharmacists took the training as well but aren’t allowed to sell cannabis without a medical prescription issued by one of the listed doctors. Several pharmacists fear that the restrictive rules will significantly increase their work load and that the fact that the cannabis won’t be available straight away but only a day or two after the patient has presented his or her prescription, will make them turn to illegal vending spots again.

“The intention of making cannabis legally purchasable was to take the drug out of illegality and reduce the related crime”, a young pharmacist in Sārruc complains. “Now people can buy the drug but the procedure to get it seems almost more difficult than obtaining the Crown of Thieves in the computer game The Myth of Imelda!”

Minister Je̦ƨaniqh admits that there may be initial problems adapting to the new situation, but stresses that people just need time to get used to it. “This is new for all of us. If it goes well, the restrictions may be relaxed after a while”, she said. She didn’t want to comment on what would happen if it doesn’t go well.

Renaut's KCDP wins election in landslide
Kevara, Keverai

Following the dismantling of the Judicial Council of Keverai and the even-handed rule of the Keverai Transitional Council, elections in Keverai have largely been labelled as a success. A hastily approved amendment to the Constitution as a result of a successful 2/3 majority in the council has allowed for many more people to be able to vote in this election than before. Gone are the days that rural voters' voices were only selectively heard. The new amendment has put the minimum requirements at "Over 18 and living permanently and consecutively in Keverai for at least two years" instead of citizenship, which is still selectively given out in the nation and remains in its aristocratic state.

These elections fell similarly to that of the recent ones that put Renaut in power. If anything, it has exagerated the results as Renaut's newly branded Keverai Centrist Democrats Party received 70% of the popular vote. PMANE's Durqois and the Argus Conservative leader Jacques Clavere both conceded, congratulating Renaut and thanking him for his courage in restabilising the 'previously uncalibrated' Keveraite democracy.

Renaut this morning held a rally on 'The Roundabout' which has become a well known symbol of the democratic uprising against the Judicial Council of Keverai. During this, he gave a speech.

"First of all, I thank the people, the Keverai Transitional System, the people who ran and the people who helped run this election. I can safely and confidently say that this is the first truly unhindered election in Keverai and I thank the people of this great nation for ensuring this and exercising their democratic rights over the past weekend. The way the votes have fell, the KCDP will begin its radical agenda to realign Keverai and put it on the right track. Big Jack [an informal name for what was previously the highest court in Keverai] had us all thinking that the stability we had was as a result of our government style but this couldn't be further from the truth. It is the dilligent, hard working and intelligent people which is the Keveraite people that have ensured this stability.

In a different form, in a different style than seen before in the nation I will commit to ensuring stability in Keverai. We are no failed state - we still have infrastructure - we are in the best position we could be to move forward on our path to a full democracy. It just needs to be done now. The calibration is in progress, fellow Keveraites.

To industry, to businesses - I will be the President you have been looking for. I thank the businesses who have stayed with us through thick and thin and I want to extend an invitation to the businesses that have left to come back and help us build this vibrant and important democracy.

We now get to the job of building a democracy that we as a nation can be proud of. Thank you for electing KCDP and thank you for reaffirming your commitment in my governance."

There has been cheering on the streets and the mood in the often forgotten rural areas of Keverai has been lifted. After years of struggle, they see a light at the end of the road and many city folk also see the ushering in of a new era of prosperity in Keverai.

THE OUTCOME OF THE 2011 PROTACIST REBIRTH 8 YEARS LATER: PROTACISM NOW ROENDAVAR'S MAJORITY RELIGION

Festival goers walking the Trail of Dandelions to Mount Moldoveanești for the Feast of Yralia Celebrations

Days after the Feast of Yralia celebrations, the Roendavarian Statistics Ministry has released news that Protacism, the once extinct polytheistic religion of Roendavar that helped shaped its identity and culture, is now the majority belief of most Roendavarians, surpassing Whindism but still did not break the Atheism barrier, a product of Roendavar's continous stance on secularism and liberal ideas.

8 years ago, during the yearly Feast of Yralia, a movement known as the Protacism Rebirth swept through the nation. It mainly appealed to the youth, who wanted to create a singular identity fueled by another idea called Pan-Roendavar, a cultural idea where the four states of Andavar, Sudever, Vastaros, and Tillianan, needed to have a singular connection in order to acheive a common people. Spread through the internet, the Protacism Rebirth Movement encouraged Roendavarians, especially those who had no religious affiliations, to switch to Protacism. It wasn't because they wanted to believe and have faith in divine beings, but it was because they believed that Protacism was the root of all Roendavarian culture, and by doing so, they were creating a new unified culture.

In the span of 8 years, waves of Roendavarian converted to Protacism. According to the previous Minister of Culture Mikhail Arvictus Ethorius, he described it as "unprecedented... one of the biggest religious movements in history... it will shape Roendavarian way of life for centuries to come.". Even the late King Vladimir IV Draculul Avarești commented on the movement, calling it, "a new step in uniting Roendavar".

Now, according to the latest census, as of December 2018, Protacism is now the majority religion in Roendavar, with 25% of the population adhering to the polytheistic faith. Whindism, a faith acquired from nearby Ainslie, now only composes 23% of the population, while Catholicism, further shrunk to only 9%. The remaining 1% are composed of various faiths, most notably Islam from the Samuderans. Still, majority of the population, around 42% are atheists, not adhering to any religion.

Attendees to the Feast of Yralia also swelled from approximately 120,000 attendees from 2018 to 208,000 last January 13, 2019. The mountain town of Entrius near the peak of Mount Moldoveanești was packed, with all hotels fully booked and hundreds of tents all around the town. On the evening of January 13, thousands of people ascended to the peak of Mount Moldoveanești for the Black Erosithegon festivities. It was the largest in Roendavarian history since the Protacist Protests of 1987.

However, the modern version of Protacism that is practiced today is different from the one that was practiced centuries ago during the era of the Davari City States as well as the Era of Daciara. Today, it is split into three sects: Secular, Traditional, and Unorthodox. Secular Protacism, which most Roendavarians practice at around 73% of Protacists, focuses more on festivities, tradition, culture, and identity rather than religious worship. Traditional Protacists, at around 18%, are the opposite, focusing on worship of the gods. Unorthodox Protacism, comprising 9% of today's Protacists, are radical practitioners of the religion. They are known for ritualistic celebrations and cult-like organizations.

The statistics were met with mixed reactions in the country. Some Roendavarians, especially the younger generation, support the Protacist movement as they claim it "strengthens the Roendavarian identity". Andavarian President Lord Cătălin Alveus Văstin, a Secular Protacist convert as well, stated on a session in the Grand Court, "...the recent news regarding Roendavar and Protacism is a great step for Roendavarian culture.". Not all were happy, however, and no one was surprised when the Catholic Church of Tillianan released a statement, calling for "serious reevaluation on terms of faith". Radical supporters of the Church of Tillianan such as the prominent Tillanorai organization Families for Christ stated that "Protacism is a barbaric and immoral practice and all supporters of the religion are condemning themselves to the fiery pits of hell."

Crown Prince Ivan Alexandru Coastăs Avarești also released a statement saying,

"The government assures the public that it will still pursue a secular stance on issues despite the recent developments. On that note, we welcome the decision of the people. Religious freedom is always a universal right and shall be respected in Roendavar, no matter what the views of some people might be. We ask the Roendavarians to respect each other and not let differences create discord in our society."

'AT IHWALÂ MEETINGS WITH PROTEST LEADERS "LEADING TO RESULTS"

SHUHAKALLU - During this morning's press briefings, 'uhitap a Tempore Ihwalâ Luktsha has announced that meetings with protest leaders over the past weeks are leading to "positive results" for all parties. Discussions have included talks of workplace safety regulations, union legalization for the vêkivêv'at, loosening of movement restrictions, and potential access to small business licenses to the worker caste. There has also been discussion of intercaste cooperation to stem the tide of illicit substances flowing into the nation from San Javier.

"If we are to develop, we must make compromises," Ihwalâ stated. "We cannot allow our hindsight to limit our capacity for growth."

Modernizers and diasporists within the Sâtêp have applauded the discussions, but traditionalist segments have been openly critical of the 'AT's decisions.

"Now is not the time for change," stated Hitap Iktutêx Tush. "The 'uhitap a Tempore is attempting to push through his agenda before the status of 'uhitap Âspu's health can improve. It is underhanded and deceitful."

"People need to feel like they can improve their lot in life," said Kivêlâ Hitap Usu Usu. "If they are to innovate and develop, they have to feel like their is a chance that their children will have better opportunities. Our caste system provides structure and stability, but it should not come at the expense of growth and development."

"Any decisions made in these conversations will be brought before the Sâtêp for vote," the 'uhitap a Tempore assured. "There will be no unilateral decision making within the context of my temporary role. I have nothing but respect for the vêkivêlâ I count myself a part of, and know that we can build a better future for our country."

While the conference mainly focused on these talks, the 'AT also touched on topics of resettlement of those displaced by flooding following the KHF Attack last month. Military forces have been confirmed to be on hand to aid with resettlement and with defense against possible raids on relief teams that will be leading the project. In addition, he thanked the international community for its aid, taking special note of aid money established by the Vancouvian government for the project.

"Our foreign allies have been nothing but helpful and positive influences in these trying times," he stated.

When asked about the withdrawal of relief offers by the Enchanti government, he was more muted.

"We hope that diplomacy will resolve tensions created by the actions of the Enchanti delegate to the League," he stated. "However, they should know that they are playing a dangerous game with the lives of innocent people. Actions like these have repercussions."

Alexi Orstev Hit With 2 million USD Fine, Avoids Jail Time For Tax Evasion

The Frexnakia United player who recently played for Polar Svalbard in the Isles Cup and is in the middle of the Eliteserien season was finally charged for Tax Evasion by the Svalbardian government.

The player had already agreed to pay the fine three months ago when he was found guilty for Tax Evasion, although there was a question of whether or not jail time was possible. In mediations between Alexi, the club Frexnakia United, and the government, it was found that it was best for all parties if he just paid the fine and did not have to deal with any jail time. Many people have shown that they are upset about this online and in some smaller protests, although for the most part Svalbardians have signified that they are fine with this.

Alexi Orstev is one of the most highly paid players in Polar Svalbard and has a huge fanbase built around him. To take him out of the sport at this moment would be detrimental for the League and many people's pockets. It is no wonder that the possibility of jail time was never actually in the works. Whenever questioned about this the player was calm and kept on redirecting questions back towards football. And at that, this is where the story should be left. A great finish to the season is upon us, and the whole of Polar Svalbard is anxious for it.

Samantha Hartega Releases Statement On Situation In Menna Shuli

Earlier today the Consul Adstutia Samantha Hartega released a statement on the situation in Menna Shuli.

The situation in question was the dam bombing that occurred in Menna Shuli in late 2018. The disaster caused the deaths of 6200, with 6340 injured, and 970 missing. Members of the League rushed to help out the nation, including Polar Svalbard. Within the past week resettlement has started in the area and a renewed interest from many League nations has occurred, both good and bad.

Samantha Hartega stated that Polar Svalbard remains committed to the plight of the Mênnan People and will keep its peacekeepers there until the situation is as resolved as it can be. Along with that the nation will continue to send supplies and aid to help in resettlement. She did say though that she hopes that Svalbardian companies will also help in the rebuild. Especially with providing jobs for the Mênnan people in the area.

Interestingly enough multiple agricultural, mining, processing, and energy companies have already expressed interest in moving assets to the area.

Furthermore the Consul expressed her distaste in what the Enchantan government did towards what many consider a friend of Polar Svalbard. Using the same words as the Mênnan delegate to the League the Consul described it as dangling meat in front of a lion cub. (When asked about why she used that phrase, the Consul said that she believed what the Mênnan delegate said was the best way to describe the situation). Going further she stated that Polar Svalbard will be wary of interacting with the nation in the future due to this.

Scandal Finally Confirmed To End
As we near the end of January, some good news has arrived. The sex scandal regarding Athara Magarat and Eurania is finally set to end! In a meeting with the three countries' ambassadors, it was confirmed that there was going to be a prisoner exchange between Athara Magarat and Eurania and then the scandal would be solved. Enchanti citizens are fine with this, however Rachel did not take it lightly.

Rachel's message when speaking to reporters: "I do not want Enchanta to associate itself with these nations any longer! Instead of taking action and preventing this from happening again, these two nations are having a prisoner exchange. It is quite childish and unnescesary."

It is rumored that the two countries have been placed on the Enchanti Watch List, however we do not no for sure since only the ICC and Equality Council have access to it. It does seem like Enchanta is getting back to its peaceful self again.

The Carl Bakkerud Show

The Carl Bakkerud Show January 26th 2019

"Good evening everyone, thank you for joining us and welcome to The Carl Bakkerud Show on Sunday 26th January. We have a lot to get through today so lets cut to the chase shall we?"

"To begin our show, we go over to the Aliaring where the first and second practice sessions for the first race of the KRM 2019 Season started today in a rather dramatic fashion, when a crash involving 2017 and 2018 KRM champion Petyr Olssen brought out the red flag for the first time in any form of KRM racing session since the eighth race of 2017. To put it simply... the car spun of the track at the eigth corner and the broken front bumper parts buried themselves into the grass off the circuit and tipped the car upwards where it came crashing down on its roof and came to rest upright after flipping once more. Petyr emerged unharmed, the strength of the internal skeleton demonstrated and the safety of KRM on full display. The session resumed later after the car was cleared and Petyr still kept the fastest lap of the session despite only participating in 5 minutes of a 1 hour session. INCREDIBLE!"

"We asked you on Messgr using the hashtag CarlOnKEM regarding your opinions on the crash and Marcus said What an insane crash, amazing to see one of the greats walk out of that unharmed and Karim said How he got out of that unhurt is amazing. You can send us your thoughts on all the other topics we discuss today using the hashtag CarlOnKEM, you can text 818 919 as well as calling us at 0890 818 919."

"In other news there has been a series of leaks implicating the Prime Minister, actor Kyrre Johansen among many others in what appears to be the use of shell companies to avoid taxes on income... Very serious indeed so many of you have called in and we are... going to Erik, a first time caller from Vestvik, good evening Erik"

"Hello Carl, thanks for having me on"

"Thank you for calling Erik, now the Prime Minister implicated in tax evasion, what do you think?"

"Well... if it is true then he must resign to be quite honest with you."

"Of course Erik, over here in Korresia tax evasion is one of the worst crimes you can commit... in other countries it is a somewhat lesser crime but here... it's almost as if it is murder!"

"Absolutely Carl, I mean... I voted for him and he has done incredible work-

"Absolutely"

"-and it would be a horrible shame to lose him as the Prime Minister but... I don't know... We'll have to wait and see"

"It's 8:15pm and in time for the news with Anita Jensen"

Dragon Raiders attack Ranger fort

At 4:05am the Western Rangers of Fort Simon were awakened not by bugle, but by a war horn.
Reports say that the raiders used an RPG to blow the fort gates right off, then a mix of arrows and gunfire rained apon them.

The rangers fought hard forcing the raiders to retreat, this left the rangers to clean up the brutalized remains of their comrades.
One ranger noted a number of the fallen being scalped, 26 raiders were killed and 13 rangers now lay dead.

The Dragon Raiders are a large gang of Native Oturians looking to kick the Oturian government out of the west, led by Ýuko Tulichka, a self proclaimed chief leading his 200 men, or at least that's what he says as the rangers predict the only have about 140 men.

Ýuko is wanted alive for 10,000 Vecs.

"No answers" after 17 sailors, 34 civilians killed in tanker explosion

HINNEVALE (APA)- Congress and the public are demanding answers from the Navy after the SFU Grand Union, a Patriot-class frigate, collided with the petroleum tanker Hoare off the coast of Frasyrland province in the eastern Aegean Sea early this morning, causing an explosion that killed 17 sailors and 34 members of the tanker's crew.

The explosion occurred at roughly 0300 hours, 39 miles north of Hinnevale, where the Navy maintains thirteen vessels as part of the Northern Shield Initiative with the Totzkan navy. The Grand Union was engaged in maneuvers shortly before the incident, according to the Navy Press Office. The Hoare was sailing from Achashee, in eastern Roonmore, for Warenne Island, according to records obtained by the APA.

Oil from the stricken tanker spilled into the sea, creating sheets of flame that complicated rescue efforts. Frasyrland provincial officials, as well as auxiliary naval vessels, assisted in evacuating the surviving crew of the Hoare. The Grand Union was able to sail under its own power back to Hinnevale, where it is now undergoing repairs.

The Senate's Naval Affairs Subcommittee, part of the congressional Joint Defense Committee, published a letter to the War Department this afternoon demanding an explanation for the tragedy. The four senators on the subcommittee- chairman Sen. Paul Norton-Griffiths (F-Roonmore), Sen. Lillian Brown (F-Gavshin), ranking member Sen. Aloisio Figueiredo (A-New Arvan), and Sen. William Matzen (A-Adashawnee)- castigated the Navy for its "gross negligence and carelessness".

"This incident represents a shocking and regrettable example of incompetence. For a military vessel equipped with modern radar and detection systems to collide with a civilian ship in this manner is nothing short of disgraceful. We demand an explanation for the deaths of the thirty-four members of the tanker's crew, as well as the seventeen Almorean sailors who lost their lives today."

The families of the sailors killed in the explosion are also clamoring for answers, with one mother anonymously telling the APA that there is "no excuse" for her son's death.

"My boy left home to serve his country, and they killed him. I have no words," she said, visibly emotional. "I hope that Congress will get right to the bottom of it."

Navy Secretary Thomas Jefferies told reporters in Ellsburgh today that he had "no answers as of yet" about the collision, but added that a full investigation has commenced under the auspices of "the Navy and federal and local safety officials".

Individuals can now directly vote in Athara Magarat but there is a catch as rotational presidency is introduced

Image
Jyoti Thapa, aka Jrm Hangma, says she is running for the Hangma of Sinja

NEW LIBANG

People around the world and Athara Magaratis for long had talked of how unique the Magarati democracy was; though there are many who will claim that Athara Magarat is not a democracy. Individuals voted for their tribal elders who in turn voted as a council for a candidate they deemed to be suitable to become the Hang or Hangma of Athara Magarati Federation of Hangates. Not anymore as Jrm Hangma, the leaders of all eighteen hangates, the Divan-i-Magarati, the Supreme Court and the Tribal Council of Elders agreed to what political analysts are calling to be a rotational presidency.

The Sultan of Kachee was invited to join this system but his spokeswoman stated that the Sultanate will remain independent; albeit tied to Athara Magarati Federation of Hangates. "However, we are open to joining this federation possibly in the future depending on the outcome. But not at the moment."

All eighteen hangates are now entering local elections as for the first time, Athara Magarati citizens can now vote their own leader. One of these hangs or hangmas will be further elected among themselves to become the leader of the entire federation. The Speaker of the Divan-i-Magarati said, "For now, the federation leader's term is one year before another Hang or Hangma of Athara Magarat is elected among the eighteen. While we do believe that one year is too short of a time for anything to be done, it will all depend on how the federation leader of 2019 performs."

However political analysts and fringe political parties say that nothing much will change. "You still the need the blessing of an elder to even become a candidate in these so-called free elections. Good luck with getting this blessing." Arun Lawati of the Workers Party says. "More than likely, despite getting the right to vote, Athara Magaratis will choose the incumbent leaders because that is how the political system is here. Jrm Hangma is running for Hangma of Sinja. The Speaker wants to become the Hangma of Arun Valley. Our ambassador to the League has mentioned interest in running for the Hangma of Tiwe Sivn. The old man in Marubhumi is still popular and unlikely to face any competitors. Next thing we know, even terminally ill Paija Hang will be running from the hospital he is in for the title of Liba Hang (laughs). It will be just old faces with new titles."

The Election Commission has promised to fast-track the election process through e-voting in all hangates. "The only problem will be in Dura Hangate which is in Sawneeak Atoll." The Election Commissioner said. "If possible, we hope to finish these elections within two weeks at most."

ALDRATO: Améro signs new alliance with Dragão Do Mar and Almorea

Image
After two days of discussions with President Hallowell and Prime Minister Lacerda over the ‘future security of the North Mesder’ President Améro, along with his Almorean and Marian counterpart, has announced the creation of a new military alliance with our northern and western neighbours. Améro officially signed the Treaty of Ellsburgh, forming the alliance, at 3 PM in Carldon Hall, Almorea. In a joint press conference Améro stated the new 'ALDRATO' alliance will commit the three signatory nations to the mutual defence and security of each other, the funding of the research and construction of new military equipment and ensuring the protection and security of the west Raedlon airspace. It was implied that President Hallowell will assume command of the alliance for the rest of year with leadership then rotating annually between the presidents of Totzka and Almorea and the monarch of Dragão Do Mar. From Carldon Hall President Améro made the following address.

We live in a turbulent era; Illa, Orsandia, Charbagnia and now Arvan all rendered into warzones as a result of Vancouvian imperialism, Thuzbekistani subversion and Noronican expansionism. As we celebrated new year these nations, along with Polar Svalbard's and the rest of MSTO’s jingoistic and trigger-finger diplomatic stances threatened to turn the Central Canal, and with-it northern Argus, into another such war. Cooler heads prevailed that day and many deaths were averted. In such unpredictable times with the wars moving closer to Raedlon’s shores the need for close allies and a strong defensive posture is a must. ALDRATO will provide the security which is so desperately needed in these times. Each of the signatory nations were born as a result of colonialism and imperialism, each suffered great violence in the name of liberty and self-rule and, although our experiences may differ, each of these three nations holds its sovereignty as sacred.

In my time as president I have found the people and the governments of Dragão do Mar and Almorea to be both trustworthy and honourable although our histories may be chequered, the agreements I have made today will, if you forgive the cliché, secure peace and prosperity for all our nations.

The ALDRATO alliance will finally act as a limit on the previously unchecked influence of Alta and their allies in the North Mesder Sea. ALDRATO will allow us the protect our own interests without needing to beg the League for assistance. ALDRATO will allow us to better defend our vulnerable northern coasts. To be succinct, ALDRATO is the future for the defence of Totzka.

While some politicians and journalists have criticised the hawkish language used by the president, the majority of responses have praised the president’s actions as being necessary to secure the Totzka’s position in the international scene. The signing of the Treaty of Ellsburgh has been called the culmination of four decades of gradually improving relations between Totzka and our neighbours. Tensions between Totzka and Dragão Do Mar peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s following unification of Totzka when the Marian monarch Queen Lisete, allowed members of the exiled Totzkan aristocracy to seek refuge in Dragão do Mar. Totzka and Almorea has likewise suffered historical bad relations which climaxed when both countries invaded one another during the Imperial War. Prior to war the three nations had been involved in almost a decade of sporadic fighting over the balance of power in Raedlon. Understanding and appreciating the historical context of Totzkan-Almorean-Marian relations only further highlights have important the formation of ALDRATO is.

TRIPARTITE ALLIANCE UNVEILED
ALDRATO pact announced by Pres. Hallowell and Marian, Totzkan leaders; signatories promise military, diplomatic cooperation

Image

ELLSBURGH (FBCA)- Almorea has entered into a new alliance with its neighbors- the Totzkan Union and Dragão Do Mar- termed ALDRATO (for ALmorea - DRagão Do Mar - TOtzka).

The Treaty of Ellsburgh, signed yesterday by President Alasdair Hallowell and his Totzkan and Marian counterparts, President Fransisco Améro and recently-inaugurated Prime Minister Paulo Lacerda, was agreed during two days of discussions between the three leaders over "the future security of the North Mesder". President Hallowell hosted Améro and Lacerda in a grand state visit, envisioned since October, that witnessed a military parade and a tour of important historic and cultural sites in the nation's capital.

ALDRATO is a military alliance that includes, among other provisions, frameworks for shared aerospace defense and combined military research and development that will be expanded upon during 2019. President Hallowell is expected to hold the ceremonial presidency of the alliance for a one-year period before handing it off to either the Marian or Totzkan head of state.

In a speech delivered from Carldon Hall after the signing of the treaty, Totzkan President Améro hailed the alliance as a counterweight to the Mesder Sea Treaty Organization and denounced the actions of MSTO members, including Polar Svalbard, as "jingoistic". In his own address, President Hallowell sought to affirm Almorea's commitment to ALDRATO while backing away from Améro's specific language.

"Almorea is a full, committed, and engaged partner in the new pact. We march in lockstep with our allies," the President said. Veering off script, he added, "of course, the turn of the year saw some pretty bad things- dangerous, bad things. I won't call anyone out, though. I wouldn't necessarily use my friend's terminology."

While walking away from the podium, the President turned to nearby reporters and said, in a loud, joking voice, "a force to be reckoned with!" before departing along with his aides.

Secretary of State Kirk Thurson offered a more scripted view of the alliance in a statement issued yesterday during the three leaders' meeting.

"ALDRATO offers potent and effective solutions for military and diplomatic cooperation. It provides security to and promotes self-reliance among our three sister nations, allowing Almorea and its allies to share the burden of mutual defense. It provides a cohesive framework for multilateral, joint engagement with the rest of the world. In the treacherous international waters that we sail in today, ALDRATO is the best possible diplomatic initiative for Almorea and its allies to take. Foreign states whose interests clash with our own, and destabilizing actors, should take notice."

Reactions from Congress have been mixed. In a statement today, the AMP's Senate Lusophone Caucus, composed of the New Arvan senators Aloisio Figueriedo, Leonor Martins, and Estanislau Carvalho and Gray Hills senator Péricles Gonçalves, praised ALDRATO as "a welcome step towards closer integration, in all spheres, with Almorea's Lusophone neighbors." Caucus leader Sen. Gonçalves, who replaced President Hallowell in the Tolldovain district of Gray Hills, broke with his predecessor by praising Totzkan President Améro's attack on the MSTO.

"The President should be more forceful in condemning the MSTO, which poses a grave threat to Totzkan security," said Gonçalves, who is the son of Totzkan immigrants.

Federalists offered a range of reviews, with Sen. Jon Fitzlane (F-Frasyrland), the presiding officer of the Senate, calling the pact "sensible" but warning against "integrating our military capability too closely with that of our allies." Fitzlane indicated that he would tell Federalist senators to vote in favor of the Treaty of Ellsburgh when it is put to the Senate for formal ratification on February 15. Sens. Paul Norton-Griffiths (F-Roonmore) and John Abercrombie (F-Baranor), military veterans with heavy influence on the defense committees, called ALDRATO "a rare step in the right direction for the Hallowell administration", but denounced "tying Almorea to a narrow, anti-MSTO vision of world affairs."

Rep. Virgil Orchard (F-Queensland), the chair of the congressional Joint Defense Committee, offered tepid praise for the alliance, simply saying that it seemed "OK" to him. Rep. Daniel MacKirdie (A-Adashawnee), the congressional liaison to the Joint Defense Secretariat, was extreme in his positive view, telling the FBCA that ALDRATO "is the best foreign policy decision by any administration in decades."

Sources tell the FBCA that, besides the business of signing the Treaty of Ellsburgh, further "high-level and secretive" discussions took place within Carldon Hall between the leaders. The nature of these discussions remains unknown.

A comparison between
Cosie's national flags.

Cosian Sunrise is the brainchild of artist Mabelinda, who is locally renowned for her work in the "recycled art" scene. True to her style, Mabelinda repurposed many elements from the previous national flag, Cosian Unity, for the current one, incorporating its blue-white tribands as well as three colours from the previous flag's palm tree symbol. The main difference lies in its central symbol: As its name states, the new flag features a shining sun rising over the sea.

"Truth be told, the MCFC (Modern Cosie Flag Committee) commissioned my talents on extremely short notice," said Mabelinda at the event. "I only had two weeks to construct a flag with enough majesty to last many lifetimes. It took a lot of sweat, and it took a lot of tears, but in the end... my baby is finally soaring in the island's skies."

Mabelinda wiped away a few tears before continuing to comment. "The best part about all this is that I didn't even need to rip off someone else's flag for this task."

The previous flag, Cosian Unity, was the subject of a two-year civil lawsuit between the Modern Cosie Flag Committee (MCFC) and the creator of Reunion's city flag. Last month, presiding judge Malcolm Hinds ruled against the MCFC for lifting elements from the Reunion flag without due compensation to its creator, forcing the government to find an immediate replacement to take Cosian Unity's place as the national flag.

"I wouldn't call replacing the face of our Modern Cosie project a setback," said Angeline Corina, Vice-President of Cosie. "Rather, this is our opportunity to refresh Cosie's image for everyone's benefit. With this new flag, we might attract more great minds willing to contribute to Cosie's growth. To all those looking at our island with a keen eye for untapped potential: Please invest in Cosie!"

With Cosian Sunrise's establishment as the country's national flag, the government has sent out a moratorium to the public, urging them to replace whatever remains of Cosian Unity with the new flag. Friday's flag-raising event also happened to coincide with the establishment of a new logo by award-winning newspaper The Cosie Courier. Long recognised as the island's time-honoured source for news, the groundbreaking newspaper unveiled a new logo as part of their commitment to staying up-to-date while acknowledging its significance in Cosian history. DOMESTIC: Elections in Arlanah creates first inconclusive result this year
Kertzen, Ainslie

Following the Wesland and Burnett elections, Arlanah went to the polls over the past weekend in order to decide the fate of Governor Roberton, one of two remaining prominent APC governors in Ainslie. He rivalled UFA candidate Nathan Radane, ACEGAD candidate Tristan Carden and the Indenats candidate Nathan Wollins. However, after counting concluded this morning the elections still hang in the balance. A significant decline in the APC vote following their fall from grace and modest increases in UFA and ACEGAD support have been overshadowed by a storm of votes for the Independent Nationalists party.

Here's how the Governor candidates shape up at the moment:
  • T. Carden (ACEGAD) - 21%
  • N. Radane (UFA) - 10%
  • D. Roberton (APC) - 23%
  • N. Wollins (IN) - 32%

This leaves Arlanah with a hung battle for governor, with APC-allied Independents ensuring the APC continues to rule at the legislative level in a rare coalition with ACEGAD. The results out of Arlanah have surprised many political commentators as although this was expected to be a close race, there were no suspicions of a hung parliament at the executive level. The surge in the Indenats vote is despite the negative media that has surrounded the party which has mainly been disregarded as hysteria and mostly unproven. In this time of uncertainty, Arendai International hit the streets and roads of Arlanah to see what people think.

"UFA better pull its head in, at least we're used to ACEGAD theatrics around here - not whatever backstabbing arrogant stunts their party is based on"
- Brayden, Carandah

"The Indenats seem decent - at least they're not following the urban votes desperately."
- Lauren, Anertah

"I'd rather vote for a party I know about than one based on fear or disloyalty"
- Sarah, Ketendra

All four candidates also responded to this morning's results, with Carden saying this result left him with "unease", whilst Wollins saw it as an opportunity and Radane speaking of a decent swing considering the demographic of the electorate. Roberton's office declined to comment, citing a need to quickly find unity and a deal amidst this uncertainty.

Unusually, attention to this election has filtered from Arlanah to the federal level with this electorate being viewed as the biggest opportunity for the Indenats to win big in Ainslie. ACEGAD chairman Noah Redecki stated that he was "content with the results, given the circumstances" whilst PM Kenzai stated that he will work with whatever government the Arlanaite people install before reinforcing that that is all that truly matters in the Ahnslen democracy. This raised eyebrows with his LLST colleagues who must be regretting their disinterest towards splitting the environmental leftist vote and the standard leftist vote in the electorate. Political commentators have stated that the LLST could have gotten enough votes in Arlanah for a ACEGAD-LLST coalition to rule over the electorate which according to the Centre for Ahnslen Political Studies (CAPS) has been seen as the most stable result out of this election. However, now we will have to wait and see whether it is an APC-ACEGAD government, an APC-Indenats Government or an APC-UFA Government. Ontop of this, CAPS warns of a less efficient government at the electoral level with a traditional leftist party likely to rule the legislature and either an ideologically different Governor or a new, young and inexperienced party installing a Governor who does not share the APC's beliefs. More details to come as Arendai receives them.

SPORT: Teams ready for upcoming Domestic T20 Tournament
Mandara, Ainslie

The cricket is back. After a long wait over the winter, the Ahnslen Cricket season is beginning with the domestic T20 MAX League leading followers through spring into a Norstham-Ainslie test series summer alongside our Greys going up against other national teams. Starting on the 15th of February with an Arnton Derby which sees Patterson's Rapids face up against Daintree's Wildfires at the Munslen Sports Complex.

In the lead up to the T20 Max League, here's a compilation of all the recent news we have received regarding the competition:

Spencer Noland, coach of the Rapids is "greatly excited" by his openers, who appear to have had a good pre-season after playing cricket in overseas domestic leagues. Joshua Stratton, captain of the Explorers is confident that this could be the team that breaks the decade-long win drought whilst Imran Hasan, the captain of the Tanahair Titans is stating that his team has had an "ideal" pre-season. The Mandara Firewasps are eager to reclaim the trophy after a shock loss to the Rathane Seafarers in the grand final. Both the Coach and Captain are feeling quite relaxed and happy, with reports being let into the team's training sessions much earlier than what the normal convention is.

We're likely to see some big hitting this year with batting stocks stacked up with successful Ahnslen batsmen both young and old alongside exciting international players. On top of this, the increased presence of all rounders is likely to mean we'll see big totals and a lot of sixes.

The Board of Ahnslen Cricket also confirmed that Hume (Arnton Rapids), Honeysett (Arnton Wildfires), Rajbansi (Blaxland Explorers) and Steward (Rathane Seafarers) are intending to return to the league for another year with all their documentation ready for a first round appearance. This, alongside exciting young talent Alek Kespin from Yorrkon and big hitting Townsider Darien Perry will be entering the competition with the former joining the Norlander team and the latter joining the Blaxland Explorers.

As for players, these are the starting XIs we are expecting to see in Round One:
  • Arnton Rapids - Ardale, Arundel, Patterson, Kerr (Noronica), Gillison, Hume, Lerena, Havilai, Fletcher, Gerere
  • Arnton Wildfires - Sunderland, Chef (Norstham), Doyle (Townside), Daintree, Allare, Waffe, McKellar, Honeysett (Townside), Cho (Orsandia), Baxter
  • Mandara Firewasps - Shah, Pittai, Narielle, Edmunson (Orsandia), Foster, Nistoi (Norstham), Barai (Orsandia), Riyadi (Samudera), Adrene, Lille (Norstham)
  • Arboran Anchors - Kohler, Stransfield, Dexter, Kespin (Yorrkon), Rikarah, Busara, Lewin, Gannon, Malanah, Richardson, Rendall
  • Blaxland Explorers - Perry, Stratton, Innes, Renwick, Barlen, Barnsen, Rajbansi (Athara Magarat), Rentige, Moffare, Conners (Yorrkon), Hopman
  • Rathane Seafarers - Norman, McLean (Townside), Wardle, Steward (Norstham), Ruse, Gillson, Arnett (Yorrkon), Nivme, Laurana, Minscum (Norstham), Harris
  • Tanahair Titans - Lumaj, Saipudin, Kortes, Arahamana, Harbenda, Mahoor, Brahmantyo, Adukin, Samatai, Dipabarus, Tahajin

With teams stacking up on international players whilst working to maintain existing world-class Ahnslen players, it is likely to be an exciting tournament filled with exciting finishes. As for who is likely to win? Arendai's Sport Bureau is backing the hitting of Daintree, Sunderland and the all round talent of Honeysett to bring the Arnton Wildfires to a victory.

Dormill and Stiura and Noronica Government reach provisional agreement in Arván
Image
Base Rouge, Territory of Arván

By: Ellery Ackerman

February 4, Cour Rouge - After spending a month in Arván, the United Republics and the Noronnican Government have reached an agreement for the future of the peninsula in one of the most consequential meetings between Prime Minister Joshua McIntosh and President Cedar Dyson. The situation in Noronica has remained stable, though the Overlord still claims support across the mainland, and it was in the presence of that stability that the two leaders met in St. Recont for a renewed, provisional, treaty.

The Treaty of St. Recont was the treaty signed at the end of the White Eagle Cape War where both countries would recognize the sovereignty of Arván as an independent republic and work to defend it. When Noronica assembled an international coalition to invade Arván and end the current government, President Dyson protested the invasion personally, and even moreso when the Overlord announced the annexation of the Republic in a direct violation of the treaty. Since then, the two nations have had a tense relationship as the United Republics entered the city of Alban, formally annexing Arván into the Territory of Arván, which remained disputed with Noronica's Prefectorial State of Arván.

On February 1st, representatives of President Dyson and Prime Minister McIntosh met in St. Recont again to sign a new treaty recognizing the sovereignty of their respective territories. The Army has agreed to leave the Prefectorial State starting on the 2nd. The 1st Brigade of the Army, which has been involved in operations in Arván, will temporarily relocate to Bases Fleur and Rouge for the immediate future until the situation in Noronica ends. After which, a permanent settlement will be arranged.

BIG CHANGES ANNOUNCED IN BUDGET SUMMIT
Monday 4th February 2019 - 13:12 |News|
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chancellor Jacob N'Tebi has this morning announced that the national health service of Malagwi will receive a substantial amount of funds in the biggest reshaping of national funds in Malagwian history.

The annual budget report was confirmed this morning outside the Pearl Palace of Aquitaine, with large changes promised across the government as Chancellor N'Tebi announced a 'future of prosperity' for Malagwi. Speaking after the confirmation of the national budget summit, Chancellor N'Tebi spoke of significant growth in Malagwi over the past year and he was now in a position where he can make amazing changes to the infrastructure and foundation of Malagwi. Staring with budget increases to the healthcare and welfare system. The announcement of Malagwi's intention to shut down its Slowpoke-2 nuclear reactor and develop more economical methods of energy renewal was also a big statement made this morning. Also mentioned was the shutting down and demolition of the nation's ancient petrochemical plants to coincide with the more green energy plan.

There was of course mentions of budget cuts across several areas including: Public transport; the rail industry which saw the lowest number of services and users in 2018 across the nation. Arts and Performing Media will also see a budget decrease as more people turn to internet based entertainment. So too the national sports fund as activities such as tennis, swimming and athletics will see reductions in funding due to low participants.

The budget will no doubt be seen with mixed emotions, there was surprisingly no mention of the defence or justice budgets, nor anything regarding immigration or education. While the increase in health and social care will please most of the nation, the railway system will frustrate and sadden many people as the already ageing and poorly maintained network again remains neglected and almost forgotten.

'UHITAP ÂSPU KASHAKA TO MAKE PUBLIC APPEARANCE?

SHUHAKALLU - Members of the 'uhitap's recovery team have announced today that Hitap Âspu Kashaka has made great leaps in his recovery over the past several weeks and that they believe that he will be "mobile and communicative with the aid of machines" within the next month.

"The 'uhitap has a long road of physical therapy and a deep recovery plan," said one of his doctors, "but we have a hopeful attitude towards his continued growth given the situation. He is being trained with the equipment required to return him to a more active role, including text-to-speech devices and wheelchairs capable of being driven with his significantly reduced motility. The 'uhitap may be ready for public appearances before the end of February."

The news has many political commenters wondering if this means the 'uhitap will be capable of returning to his government roles before the end of March, especially as the 'AT has announced his intention to put together a committee within the Sâtêp to begin drafting possible formal constitutions for the country.

"What we need now," said the 'uhitap a Tempore, "is clarity in our system."

While modernizers have applauded the effort, the 'AT's approval ratings among more traditional princes has fallen rapidly in past weeks. Some supporters of the 'AT have formally withdrawn their financial backing of Hitap Ihwalâ.

"Constitutionalism is the same as enfranchisement," said Hitap Kituk Lâwa, owner of Ibex Transportation, the primary provider of shipping services for the western oilfields. "This approach undermines our economic and cultural stability."

Some vêhitap'at claim that talk of constitutionalism has increased intertribal violence in certain metropolitan areas, especially amongst those being resettled following the KHF Bombing. Violent tribal clashes have led to six deaths in the past week as brawls have broken out among land claimants. Supporters of the 'AT claim that this violence is more caused by a disorganized approach to land reform.

"We have rushed things and we're paying for it now," said Hitap Hiska Tihakatu, the originator of the "urban compound" system that has been growing in popularity in the Sâtêp over the past several months. "My compatriots and I have been working on a proposal for a new form of land distribution measure which we believe will alter the current resettlement paradigm and establish a new, working form of atribal, easily defensible agricultural advancement which will establish a more efficient tomorrow for our country. We believe that the 'uhitap a Tempore's work will establish a foundation for a new economic and military tomorrow for Mênna Shuli."

'Royalist' Forces Attack State Of Potania

Image
OSD-RA2, used against loyalist troops
After the Noronnican Media Corporation's Northern Branch in the Prefectorial State of Potania was taken over by armed militants, illegal rebel military units calling themselves 'Royalists', referencing disgraced ex-Overlord Tytus Alexander's insurrection against the lawful Noronnican Government, are making there way through the northern state as they wage their illegal war against the state.

In what is being called by many in international circles, the 'Noronnican Crisis' is reaching a critical stage of conflict, whereby militant rebellious troops are launching attacks against loyalist troops within the Prefectorial State of Potania, one of Noronica's most important states. This violent and illegal insurrection has left many in the Nolon political sphere shocked and dismayed, as troops once fighting alongside one another turn against the other in awful bloodshed.

One of the targets was the Noronnican Media Corporation's northern branch in the city of Gwynon, considered by many to be the cultural capital of Noronica. According to security staff, armed militants dressed in civilian clothes barged their way through the building and took swift control, broadcasting their own message from the newsroom where news presenter Jack Harding was live on air. Representatives from both the Department for Home Affairs and Noronnican Media Corporation are urging the public to prevent others from watching the harmful imagery and to delete any downloaded footage.

Police and BIS officers were unable to prevent the takeover of the offices and are now currently attempting to negotiate with the militants who have entrenched themselves within.

In the heart of Potania however, the Adh Iolaidh Army Base was subject to a brutal attack by the rebel military units. The troops within were entirely unprepared to face such a barbaric assault on domestic soil, something which has not been seen in Noronica for decades. The base was subject to barrages by lines of OSD-RA2 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, which battered defences before allowing rebel militants to attack the compound. The amount of casualties is so far unknown, and the rebel forces now within the base refuse to reply to any attempts at open discourse.

The Prime Minister, Joshua McIntosh, expressed his disgust in his press release at 7:50 pm:

"These attacks in the Prefectorial State of Potania are entirely uncalled for and wrongful. These armed militants, for that is what they are, are committing illegal acts of terrorism across the state. Instead of face up to the truth of the matter over their legality, they press on with this ridiculous and spiteful rhetoric. I am utterly disgusted by the fact that Tytus Alexander, the ex-Head of State who was stripped of his titles months before, is doing everything he can to enable this behaviour. If this military insurrection against the lawful Government of Noronica continues, the Armed Forces shall have no option but to respond in kind."

SLAUGHTER

Laura Déa | Political Editor | Mon 4 Feb
Image

The Noronnican Media Corporation calls today's military operation in the Prefectorial State of Potania 'terrorism', and demeans the units involved as 'violent militants', all the while they undergo a cover-up of what really happened in one of the most explosive battles in recent Noronnican military history. Rippen Airfield. Arván was a colossal military disaster, causing the deaths of over six-hundred Noronnican and Arvanan troops, and Noronnican Governmental officials were entirely complicit. Called the 'slaughter of Arván', only one survivor made it back home to Noronica to tell the tale, Sergeant Matthew Hawthorn. The Gwynon Times managed to get an interview with Sergeant Hawthorn after he was given much needed medical attention, allowing him space to reveal his horrendous experience in the peninsula he was tasked to defend.

Sergeant Matthew Hawthorn was part of the remaining contingent of troops in the Prefectorial State of Arván, alongside only a few other units. According to him, they were abandoned by thousands of their compatriots and were left to defend against several battalions of the Dormill-Stiuraian Armed Forces. They were forced to build temporary barricades around the Rippen Airfield, yet even they had no chance of defending them from the brutal airstrike they were subjected to. The rest of his tale can be explained by his own words in our interview with him:

Sergeant Hawthorn: "I signed up because I was lost, [I] had nowhere to go. I had little opportunity back home because of my decisions, but joining the Army gave me clarity. It gave me a group I could identify with. I pledged my allegiance to the Overlord because that is the law, I did not expect to have myself be slandered and called a traitor for following correct orders. Nor did I expect to be tricked into my own grave like so many of my mates. McIntosh-"

Interviewer: "Just to clarify: Prime Minister Joshua McIntosh of Noronica?"

Sergeant Hawthorn: "Yes, Prime Minister Joshua McIntosh did not inform my commanders or others in my unit. It was only brought to my attention that others were evacuating when my subordinate came to tell me [that] the others were abandoning us."

Interviewer: "What happened next?"

Sergeant Hawthorn: "[Then] came the airstrike. It was out of the blue, no one knew we were being targeted. We thought there would be a confrontation because we didn’t have time to evacuate, but we did not know we were at war. We lost buildings, men and valuable supplies, and had little time to mourn. As soon as the bombs had fallen, we were almost immediately battered by waves of Dormill-Stiuraian troops. It was a slaughter. It came to the point where we had to use bayonets."

Interviewer: "Did you have any support by [other] fellow troops on the peninsula? Anyone?"

Sergeant Hawthorn: "We had no backup. How could we have had any [backup]? We were the only troops in Arván."

If there was anything that was imperative to take away from this short interview, is that the ample time and warning the Prime Minister is said to have given to troops remaining in Arván is a total and shameless lie. It appears that certain units were handpicked by Government officials to evacuate the peninsula and allow for the Dormill-Stiuraian force to enter into the territory and attack the troops who were caught entirely unaware. It has been suggested that the Prime Minister was attempting to, as the saying goes, 'kill two birds with one stone,' let troops he did not know the loyalty of fight an outnumbered battle which would rid him of potential political enemies and also reduce the potential threat of Dormill-Stiuraian troops in Arván. Perhaps President Dyson was duped, the Prime Minister of Noronica, Joshua McIntosh has proved to be an unreliable ally and tyrannical leader willing to put the lives of his country's armed forces to death.

The Gaya Claims and Establishes Laboratory Settlement on Lanka Island

3:20 GST - Wardha- Just yesterday a team of 200 Gaya ecologists, biologists, and medical doctors landed on the shores of Wardha Kingdom's Lanka Island, an ecologically rich directly west of The Gaya. Over the past month researchers at Husara University had been pressing the ESG to pass legislation to allow them to explore and understand the diverse ecological structure of the island.

The Gaya Minister of Ecology Navneet Gaur stated at a press conference to, "... not be concerned with the isolation of the island", which barely has a population of One Thousand. The ESG has made it's intentions clear to prevent further human settlement that aren't for research purposes. Large military ships, airplanes, and vehicles have been banned from being stationed within of the island. The people only ride by bike.

The purpose of bringing the islands under Wardha jurisdiction was to provide stringent regulations for operating research on the islands, and to protect the island's unique ecology, which scientists have estimated include nearly 15,000 species of fish, birds, monkeys, and other forms of animals not previously known to exist on other Islands.

Starting Saturday a private passenger and cargo ship will be providing transport between Husara University, Marine & Geological Institute, and Wardha on the mainland. The ship will be solar and electrically powered, according to ministers at the ESG.

'UHITAP ÂSPU RELEASES WRITTEN STATEMENT ON HEALTH

SHUHAKALLU - Members of the Sâtêp were pleasantly surprised this morning as 'uhitap Âspu Kashaka released a written statement regarding his health. Apparently dictated to an aide as the 'uhitap learns to utilize a text-to-speech device, the document presented the government with hope that the 'uhitap will be returning to his official duties soon.

FROM THE DESK OF THE 'UHITAP

To the People of Mênna Shuli, my Beloved Country,

I cannot begin to express how joyous I feel being able to again address you all. I wish that it was with my own voice that I could do so, standing before you as a leader should, but I am not ready at this time to come forward publicly. It will not be long, I assure you, and as soon as I am able I will again present myself before my nation. At this time, however, we must be contented with my capacity to provide you this text, in the assurance that my nation is on my mind at all times.

These past months have been trying on this country and on the Mênna. I applaud your resilience and unity in these times. I have been called "Grandfather Âspu" in the past, a reminder, I think, that the Mênna are one family. In these times, we must remember those familial bonds and build for ourselves the community and nation that our ancestors envisaged for us.

The Sâtêp has done well in their pursuit of this vision during trials that have limited the clarity of vision or action. There are obviously many changes that need to be made in this modern era to ensure the stability of the Mênnan state, but the Mênna have never been a people to shirk duty or hard work. We are monument builders and wonder-workers. If we level that commitment to greatness to answering the trials that we are faced with, there is no limit to our potential.

There will be time to pursue these necessary measures, but here and now I must speak of the elephant in the room. The health crisis that has surrounded me over the past months has not been minor, and there will, of course, be questions as to my own stability. Unfortunately, there are no clear answers to these questions. However, I can say that my stroke has awakened me to certain truths, truths that should not have been as unclear to me before my health failed. Our country faces a health epidemic, and one which I was not only unwilling to face but actively encouraged in my own behaviour. Tobacco usage in our country is perhaps the greatest looming disaster that the Mênna currently face. Steps need to be taken so that others do not face what I have or worse.

A simple step is that we mustn't allow our commitment to free trade blind us to the safety of our people. Our lack of regulation on Javieran tobacco imports have not only allowed substandard products to infest our market, but have also encouraged a growing criminal market for drugs within Mênna Shuli. This cannot be allowed to stand. I beg for the Sâtêp to begin actions that will address this epidemic, even before I return.

I promise that this return is coming. I will not allow my country to face its problems alone. If I am to be Grandfather to my people, then I must act as such a patriarch would and guide my grandchildren to their rightful destiny. This is my vow.

Strong community, strong state, strong world.

In Love,

Hitap Âspu Kashaka

Political commentators have been in an uproar since the release, questioning whether this statement represents a "call to arms" for a trade war with San Javier. MÊK will keep you updated as the story develops.
