Suvurnia votes to extend KAR's mandate

In one of the most crucial elections in Suvurnian history, the KAR have struck a deal with WASAT to prevent an Islamist ruling coalition

President Lukman bin Awang celebrates his landslide election with his supporters

Yesterday, Suvurnians went to the polls in what was widely touted as a referendum on the progress made by the KAR's temporary administration. There were three main choices on offer. They could back the new status quo of the KAR's secular capitalist government under Lukman bin Awang, which sought to align Suvurnia more closely with Gael. They could vote for the hardline Islamists in the PJI, who aimed to pick up where Fitri Nasrallah's Islamic Unity Front had left off. Or they could vote for a middle road, backing the moderate Islamic WASAT with their goal of breaking apart the Islamist-Secularist dichotomy which has dominated Suvurnian politics in recent years.

The electoral campaigns were primarily rooted in promises which expressed the parties' visions for the future of the nation. The KAR painted a highly Gael-Centric picture for the future, identifying the repeal of several Islam-based laws as a key project with the eventual goal of entering the G4 alliance. PJI promised to create an Islamic Republic in Suvurnia and to extend the powers held by the Syariah courts in Suvurnia. The WASAT Party were focused primarily on a centrist vision between the Islamists and secularists, preserving much of Suvurnia's islamic heritage while still modernising and facing the future.

At 6 PM today, the halfway results were released. In the Presidential race, the KAR's Lukman bin Awang was ahead by 27% over his closest competitor, Ustaz Syahid Haji of the PJI. The race never really closed up, and when the results were finalised at 9 Lukman had strongly defeated his opponents. He won the presidency with 63% of the vote, meaning that a runoff was unneeded, with Ustaz Syahid winning 29% of the vote and the remaining 8% going to Muhammad Azhar Suwardi of WASAT. Lukman dominated the Catholic, Cantonese and White demographics, while Ustaz Syahid's vote came exclusively from Muslims. Income and education were both major factors, with the less educated voters swinging towards Syahid and wealthier voters attracted to bin Awang, whose neoliberal economic policies attracted their support.

The votes for Suvurnia's 102 seat Legislative Council were far closer. As expected, the KAR were the largest party. However, with only 46% of the vote they lacked the support to form a government on their own and had to build a coalition. The support of the Liberal party, who gained 3% of the vote, was assured, but this still left them short of a majority. The PJI won 30% of the vote, making them the second biggest party in the council and a threat for the KAR. The power lay with WASAT, who won 21% of the vote, as kingmakers in this scenario. In the end, WASAT decided to go with the KAR. In return, they gained the position of Prime Minister and concessions from the KAR on certain unannounced issues regarding Islam and its role in Suvurnian society.

The final makeup of the Legislative Council is depicted in the following graph.
Image
Parties from the left: KAR, Liberal, WASAT, PJI

The PJI picked up both special seats from the DDISAR (Dulung Darul Iman Special Administrative Region), granting them an extra two seats once the 100 mainland seats were assigned according the the percentages of the vote won by each party. With 70 seats and control of the executive, the ruling coalition should be able to achieve their program without much strife. However, several WASAT legislators have expressed that they will resist any overarching puches for secularism in Negarakita at too quick a pace. In his first interview, bin Awang expressed his "deepest gratitude to the Suvurnian people" for his election and promised that he would "continue to strive for the betterment of the nation".
Muslim revert, supporting wasatiyyah for a true and moderate expression of our faith. Political centrist.

President Han Yejun “Optimistic” for 2019

By Jang Seong Ra | Political Columnist | Latest/Politics
Image

President Han Yejun rang in the new year with an address from the Capitol of Yeowon, voicing his optimism for the coming year amid continued economic success and growth across the nation.

Citing a recent data report from the finance ministry, Yejun noted how the report indicated almost “similar levels of economic growth in the coming fiscal year.” Talking about economic growth under the Yejun presidency has become humorously redundant, but the country has yet to falter under the firm but pro-economic policies spearheaded by the conglomerate heir turned politician.

While the positive trend is always a welcoming sign, many economic commentators have voiced their concern on whether the rewards of the post referendum economic growth have largely been reaped by the middle-upper classes. Many economists have noted the growing wealth disparity among Cheoji citizens and its threat to the stability and economic future of the nation, but neither the President nor any other government official has commented much less take measures against these concerns. Whether the wealth gap will eventually send the Cheoju economy on a downwards slide is up for speculation but how businesses, markets, and politicians all react to the future developments could determine the long-term outlook for the Cheoju economy.

The President also lauded longtime friend and Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Young-Jae for his numerous achievements and successes internationally. “[he] has always been someone I could count on, and [his] efforts in ensuring our positive relationships internationally with other states continue to play a pivotal role in the safety and security of all Cheoji” stated Yejun.

Capping off a short forward-looking address, Yejun spoke to the Cheoju nation as a whole. Emphasizing “[the] need for all of citizens to commit to the order and security that has led to the prosperity of our nation”, Yejun’s remarks seem to be an effort to remind his country that his authoritarian approach has been successful thus far. This also comes after the President had introduced a few new restrictions on dissent and protest last summer. Much to the displeasure of pro-free speech and anti-authoritarian activists.

For the apathetic reader, the President’s opening address of the new year signaled more of the same, whether “the same” is to the benefit or harm of the nation as a whole is yet to be seen.

Ministry of Education challenges headmistress’s “no fighting” policy

As schools across the country reopen after the winter holidays, the Ministry of Education has become embroiled with a government school in a southwestern borough of the Town Beside the Sea Metropolis, after their headmistress instituted a new “no fighting” policy, in an attempt to shepherd in a more positive environment for the school after the new years.

The new policy states that if there ever were to be a confrontation between two students, both students would be punished for the confrontation, regardless of who started it.

The Ministry of Education was alerted to this matter on the second day of the policy, when a 13 year-old Year 7 student in that school was assaulted by a group of three 14 year-old Year 8 students. Fellow schoolmates who witnessed the altercation allege that the 13 year-old offered no resistance in fear of being punished by the school’s new policy, while some Year 8 students claimed that the bullies were emboldened by the new policy. Fortunately, the 13 year old was not grievously harmed.

The Minister of Education’s main issue with the new policy was how it prevented students to exercise their “fundamental right to self-defence”. The Minister said that schools do indeed need robust anti-bullying policies to deal with violence in schools, but taking away students’ ability to defend themselves was not the answer. The Minister cited the incident as a clear example of this, noting that this incident was the first involving physical violence in the past decade in that school.

The school’s headmistress meanwhile released a statement to the press defending her policy and condemning the minister for “mansplaining” and interfering in the school’s administration. The headmistress, who proudly listed being a member of the Green Party and the Townside SJW Federation as a qualification on her official biography page, said she was a “pacifist” and was unequivocally opposed to “violence in all forms”.

Challenging the Minister’s claim that self-defence was a “fundamental right”, the headmistress asserted that the concept of “self-defence” was a legal defence in a court of law and in legal processes, and that it did not extend to areas of life outside of court, such as “her school”, where she was entitled to create “her own rules”. The headmistress therefore concluded that the concept of “self-defence” is only available against legal punishment, and not against school punishments.

Furthermore, the headmistress has called on the government to adopt her policies nationwide, urging that the parliament should pass a “Safe Schools Act” to do so. The headmistress claimed support from the Green Party and the Townside SJW Federation. Both those organisations have recently come forward to express support and solidarity with the headmistress, with the Green Party stating they would endeavour to introduce her “brilliant idea” when parliament reconvenes.

Finally, the headmistress ended her statement by saying that she believes her policy would work if students would cooperate with her. She cited the fact that she witness a breakup between one of the school's 16 year old Year 10 rugby players and his girlfriend. The girl slapped the rugby player in a fit of anger, and the rugby player held his own ground and didn’t do a single thing,

“I believe all students can do the same thing with their peers in this school. I see no reason why it should not be possible,” the headmistress said.

The school’s students were in an uproar as a result of that statement. They argued that not all victims of bullying were like rugby players, and not all bullies were as “ineffective” as a whiny girls. Students were also angry at the headmistress’s apparent obliviousness to group bullying.

Angrier than the school’s children, however, were the parents, who in an emergency meeting of the local Parent’s Association has voted to raise funds for legal action against the headmistress, and to begin a petition for her removal from office. In response, the Townside SJW Federation expressed dismay at the way in which the parents were “ganging up” on the headmistress when she was “doing her best in such a difficult job”, and has made clear the Federation would support the headmistress in any way possible, including financially.

Sources from the Ministry of Education tells us that the headmistress’s statement was “very telling” of her ability and qualification for the job she holds. While the MoE was unsure about how the local Borough Authority, which is coincidentally controlled by the Green Party, could have allowed this to happen, the MoE has affirmed that if the headmistress does not amend her policies within three days, the MoE would begin to request permission from the Privy Council to sidestep the local Borough Authority and remove the headmistress from her position.

DOMESTIC: Links between Buzz and doomsday cults uncovered
Arnton, Ainslie

Soon to be declassified reports from the Buzz Review that occupied much of 2018 have revealed revelations surrounding how Buzz became so distributed and widespread so quickly. Seven doomsday cult members from Callentin in Arlanah as well as two members from Arborai and three from Highland Ridge have been arrested today in coordinated efforts between electoral police departments, acting on the intelligence delivered to them by the Ahnslen Federal Police and Ainslie's Gaelitic allies.

Infamous yet prominent cults such as the Loyal Brotherhood of the Times that are Nigh (LBTN) and the Disciples of the End (DOTE) have been brought under significant scrutiny by the criminal justice system in recent days with many of the lower level leadership suspected to have been middlemen in an unknown international organisation's attempts to bring Buzz, a highly addictive illicit methamphetamine, into mainstream party culture in Ainslie. However, amidst rapid responses from police and additional regulation and legislation, this was objective was not obtained.

The twelve men, who have some level of seniority in these two doomsday cults await trial at the electoral courts which are under their jurisdiction. Despite this, there are calls for the Judicial Council or an ad-hoc tribunal to be set up in order to conduct the trials of anyone found to have committed criminal acts which are related to the Buzz Inquiry.

A further ten men and two women have been brought into to be questioned by Federal Police across the nation whilst two men were intercepted at the Orsandian border in Norlands yesterday, fleeing the nation. There remains to be no explanation as to how they fit in to this wider picture of Buzz smuggling but more details are expected to come to light in the coming days as law enforcement obtain more information.

The AFP today released a statement regarding the arrests which reads as follows:
"Today we have arrested many people and brought into questioning even more, indicating once again that these criminals who sought to attack our teens with malicious substances will be found and prosecuted under the fullest extent of Ahnslen law. There is no escape from the law. If you have committed offences related to Buzz, you will be caught. Regardless of who you know, what organisation you are a part of or where you are - you will be caught."

Electoral Governors praised their law enforcement as well as federal authorities, with the Governor of Arlanah stating that "this is progress - valuable progress, but there is more to be done."

It is not yet clear whether the heads of these doomsday cults facilitated the distribution of Buzz.

DOMESTIC: Results out from Burnett elections
Watarah, Ainslie

Governor Pescott is to remain in control of Burnett following a relatively mundane electoral election in the electorate. Despite the vote of the APC mildly declining, it held a lot stronger than in Wesalnd - as a result UFA did not seem to reap the rewards of the centre-left. On the back of a strong performance in Wesland, it was expected that the young centre-leftist United for Ainslie party would make significant gains.

However, the conservatism in Burnett appears to be stronger than in Wesland with ACEGAD's representation in Burnett only increasing by two seats from 21 to 23 out of a possible 37 - an increase of about 6%.

Pescott, seen as one of the more conservative figures in the ACEGAD Party continues to be favoured over her APC and UFA candidates. At the executive level, Pescott's numbers didn't shift significantly, holding 61% on a two party preferred basis with the APC holding 39%. Alyssa Ashburn, candidate from UFA conceded last night stating that "There is much work to be done in Burnett in order for the people to better know who we are and what we stand for." Kai Darrell, the candidate from the APC - the second largest party in Burnett and in Ainslie, stated that "the APC have been remarkable in Burnett to bounce back so strongly from the derailment that was Wesland, to be frank".

Pescott delivered a speech whilst speaking in Watarah today.

"I am honoured to be serving as Governor of Burnett for another term and to have many of my colleagues stay or enter Government as a result of the continued support of our constiuents. This reinforced majority that the Ahnslen Centrists have received is a continued reaffirment of the mandate that the citizens who reside in this electorate have given us. Calm, rational and moderate leadership which respects the past and prepares for the future. That is what ACEGAD is about and that is what we have been told once again that the people of Burnett want. Regardless of what has been happening on the political left, the two party preferred results suggest this.

Citizens of Burnett, that highway is going to be built. That railroad will be finished. The town revitalisation projects in conjunction with our friends at the local level - finished or nearing completion. Our ambitious and long overdue infrastructure projects are signs of a Government that refuses to disregard Burnett or ignore it. This electorate has significant potential and this is recognised by our party at the federal level.

Your vote is a vote to refuse to be ignored. Burnett ACEGAD will ensure that we are not ignored."

As the smallest electorate in size and population, Burnett has often been seen as low on the priority list. After the independence of Samudera from Manning, there continues to be calls for a larger southern electorate - a merged Manning and Burnett. Pescott's speech today has been seen as a move against these calls. Whilst Burnett and Manning seem to be on the same page politically for now, Pescott's rhetoric suggests that her current term will consist of differentiation from the electorate to their east.

Running on a campaign of infrastructure and investment, Pescott will need to deliver on her promises in order to maintain the small majority that she has. On a broader scope than Burnett, there remains to be at least three more elections of this kind in the coming year with Arlanah, Norlands and Dallama all likely to go to the polls in the first half of this year. Anytime through 2019 or in the first two months of 2020, a Federal Election could be called. If everything follows what political pundits and insiders are saying, 2019 is going to be a year filled with elections. Let's see how they turn out.

FPANY agree to delay independence referendum following concerns over International District and the Central Canal.

The Leadership of the Front For The Yhai Nation (FPANY) have formally agreed to the government’s request to delay the vote on Yhai independence to the 18th february following recent international tensions surrounding the International District and the Central Canal. Ado’Illusan Vilo, the party’s spokesperson, held a press conference in which he made the following statement:

Access to the Central Canal and the International District will be essential for Yhaiva’s international trading potential post-independence. We have no wish to bring the Yhai nation into the world with its umbilical cord wrapped around its throat. Furthermore, with Vancouvia and Athara Magarat displaying such open aggressive jingoism there are significant concerns over the defence of Yhaiva’s sovereignty when Parazina withdraws its protection. Delaying the vote will give us more time to organise Yhaiva’s security following separation.

Vilo’s statement has been met with praise by both the government and the public outside Yhaiva. Socialist commissioner and Father-Of-The- Comissão Rajender Castelo Duda, one of the loudest opponents of Yhai independence, praised Vilo and FPANY for “demonstrating responsible leadership” and not “blindly running Yhaiva into becoming the isle’s next failed state.” Opinion polls have seen approval ratings for FPANY outside Yhaiva rise by 13.61% while within Yhaiva there was a slight drop of 2.31%.

Within Yhaiva FPANY’s decision has proved divisive and appears to indicative of growing split within the independence movement between Vilo’s so-called modernist faction, who want an independent Yhaiva to take advantage of the steppe’s vast bitumen wealth, and the Nomadists, who want the Yhai to return to their pastoralist nomadic roots. The party’s executive committee held a vote yesterday on whether or not they would accept the government’s suggestion to delay the referendum. The committee voted to accept the request by 14 votes to 11.

Anti-independence groups within Yhaiva like the Segunda Cláusula Movement welcomed the decision while many of the more vocal members of FPANY took to the internet to voice their displeasure, often with racist undertones. Many derided Ilhan members of the Federal Government as “con men” and claimed FPANY “was being led by the blind.” Others suggested that the Federal Government was working with Vancouvia and Athara Magaret to kept tensions high.

AECAT commits the Almorean government into paying $4 million
Almorean Dollars for the pipeline

The continuation of the Almorean-Totzkan Economic and Trade Agreement (AECAT) was thrown into doubt last Friday when President Hallowell found himself short of the $4 million Almorean dollars (equivalent to 270 million ES$) agreed upon. Almorea is bound by AECAT to allocated $4 million towards the building of the new oil pipeline between Almorea and Totzka.

Despite the pipeline’s potential to be beneficial to both nations the opposition Almorean Party, who control the Chamber of Representatives, refused the president’s request for the $4 million to build pipeline. Despite petroleum products constituting a major part of the Almorean economy the Almorean Party is generally anti-fossil fuel although hyperpartisanship may have had more of influence on the party than ideology.
The pipeline could potentially be a major boon to Totzka, massively reducing our energy costs. Totzka currently has to rely on overseas imports to satisfy its energy needs, shipping much of its oil and gas over from central Argus. In a joint statement the Director of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Matea Zdenka, and the Chairman of the Council of National Resources, Anupam Santana, said that AECAT is unlikely to proceed unless the construction of the pipeline is guaranteed.

Along with reducing tariffs of Almorea oil exports AECAT will also incentives Totzkan companies to buy more silver and electrical components from Almorea. AECAT will also see Almorea turn increasingly more to Totzkan agricultural products to feed itself and its textile industries.

Conservative Party Head Found Dead in Home; Heart Attack Suspected
1-6-19

Early Sunday Morning, Ashlon Valmacid was found dead in his West Ashluv home. The Conservative MP, a very outspoken critic of the Cihangir Administration and unofficial head of the Opposition Party, died during his evening private hour of a heart attack. He was 63.

In the early part of the morning, an aide went from his office to check on him after he didn't meet a scheduled conference call with Opposition party leads at 6 A.M. as they planned for the busy weeks to come. The aide found him dead in his study. The preliminary report from the Ashluvian Coroners office stated that the cause was most likely a heart attack, but that a full M.E. Report would be provided to Parliament as is custom for such deaths.

In the hours since the finding, several MPs and officials have expressed emotional farewells to their followers.

"He was a rock amid a churning sea," one Conservative MP said in a tweet. "When the chaos of politics struck, he was the decisive man that calmed the storm. His fantastic leadership since 2011 has been one of caring, tender words with his friends and a stern, unbreakable spine for our foes. He will be missed."

Former Prime Minister Emin Vedat also released a statement through his office. "Mr. Valmacid was a stirring leader and a deeply faithful man. He believed in the causes for which he fought not just as a Thuzbek, but as a loyal and faithful follower of Allah. His devotion to the Pillars and to his Party will not be forgotten."

The death leaves an opening in the Conservative Party for leadership and an empty seat to be filled. Elections are expected to take place in the next months for his seat. Until then, the Opposition Chairman will appoint a temporary replacement.

Prime Minister Cihangir Makes Statement on Noronican Coup
1-5-19

Saturday Morning, Prime Minister Cihangir released a statment condemning the apparent coup in Noronica, where the "Overlord" has pressed his unconstitutional authority onto some states in the nation.

"The Overlord of Noronica is making a grave mistake which will throw his nation into turmoil and disarray. While we have our reservations with the Nation of Dormill and Stiuraia, we echo the sentiments President Dyson and the Dormill-Stiuraian Congress. The Republic should, under no circumstances, yield to a tyrant who dares call himself Overlord. While we have long held a friendly relationship with Noronica, we emphasize that this Pseudo-Monarch must be opposed by the workers of Noronica!"

The statement comes as confusion reigned amidst bombs and gunfire earlier this week.

After weeks of political back and forth, the Prime Minister of Noronica made moves to declare the Overlord a traitor and try him for treason. Instead, the Overlord used the military to assert his control in parts of the nation.

THE HADAST TRUTH

Good morning everyone, rumor has been going around that the Sar Sarani sent some letters out to the leaders of Noronica and Dormill-Stiuraia. With permission of Sar Harold, we give you those letters now.

The first one was to Noronica:
To our brother sovereign, Overlord Tytus I, and to our friend Prime Minister McIntosh, we come with sadness in our heart and inform both of you, we find your actions both irresponsible and reprehensible, this is more reminiscent of two toddlers fighting over a toy, then the actions of distinguish gentlemen. This is the third time in my life that Noronica has faced civil strife, let us end this now. We will not support or give aid to either, but do offer ourself as a Mediator. If you feel that we are not right for the job, then we ask you seek one from the League.
Before more Nornnicans die from bombs dropped from Nornnican planes, stop this madness.
.

The Sar Sarani also sent a letter to the President of Dormill-Stiuraia.
President Dyson of the United Republics, my friend, word has reached us that your military may be going to interfere with the crisis in Noronica. We, with the utmost respect, must inform you that such actions will be looked upon unfavorably by us. You must take no action to escalate the Nornnican crisis. If you wish to remain friends with Wellsia, then you must send your troops back home. It would benefit neither to drive a wedge between us .

We also give praise that things will look brighter for our neighbors across the Bay. After a horrible year things are looking better for Mênna Shuli as ‘uhitap Apsu Kashaka has awaken from his coma. The Sar Sarani and the Miat have both sent letters of congratulations.

Lastly all are told to be on the watch for the former Oturian president, Jane Weston. She has escaped from prison and while it is doubtful she will flee here, a dangerous person like her must be found. Border units are on the lookout, if anyone does spot her in Wellsia, contact the authorities at once.?

PIPELINE NIGHTMARE FOR ADMINISTRATION
Markets rattled by Totzkan warnings as Pres. rages against Congress; lobbyists to pressure Federalists

Image
President Alasdair Hallowell speaks animatedly to a reporter in Fortaleza, the capital of Dragão do Mar, on January 7, 2019

FORTALEZA (FBCA)- President Alasdair Hallowell turned his anger today against the Federal Party, taking time from his visit to the capital of Dragão do Mar, where he is attending the inauguration of Paulo Lacerda as Prime Minister, to attack Federalists in Congress who are refusing to provide an appropriation of $4 billion to build a pipeline from Almorea to Totzka.

"It's obstruction. It's a heinous act," the President said, gesturing animatedly and moving his eyebrows as he spoke to reporters in Fortaleza. "We're going to get the dollar pipeline one way or the other. The Federalists must give us the money. It's incredible. It's sad, is what it really is. If we don't build this pipeline it'll be a national disgrace. You can blame the Federalists for that. I'll tell you now, if we don't have the pipeline they'll lose their majority next year," President Hallowell also asserted, referring to next year's congressional elections.

The President's comments come after negotiations at Carldon Hall on January 5 broke down when Federalist leaders, including Sen. Jon Fitzlane (F-Frasyrland), Rep. Kevin Alexandersson (F-Roonmore), Rep. John Granland (F-Talavora), and Rep. Teresa Marbury (F-Culawee), only offered $2.8 billion to pay for Almorea's contribution to the proposed oil pipeline running between Gray Hills and Yhaiva, in eastern Totzka. The administration rejected this sum as $1.2 billion short of the $4 billion amount specified in the text of the ATAFTA trade deal.

A $4 billion appropriation would be enormous for Congress, which passes national budgets of less than $30 billion each year. The Hallowell administration, along with many business leaders, have argued strongly that the proposed pipeline would pay for itself, with the President and other officials referring to it unofficially as the "dollar pipeline".

The Federal Party's reluctance to offer the full sum to the administration has been viewed as a surprise by some analysts, who point out that many of the party's largest corporate donors are companies that would directly benefit from the pipeline, including the Almorean Oil Consortium (AOC) and National Refineries. Federalist opposition is likely spurred by the party's pledge to rein in government spending, as well as bitterness towards the Hallowell administration that has been made more sour by the recent scandal at the Transportation Department and a sluggish economy.

On Sunday, the Totzkan foreign minister, Matea Zdenka, along with Anupam Santana, the head of Totzka's Council of National Resources, issued a joint statement saying that ATAFTA, or AECAT as it is known in Totzka, is "unlikely to proceed" unless the Almorean government can guarantee that the pipeline will be built.

Markets fell after the Totzkan warning, with the Ellsburgh Stock Exchange (ESX) falling 990 points, its biggest one-day drop since 2009. Anxiety among investors contributed to poor showings by companies that would benefit most from the trade deal, including oil companies, Norton Electronics, the nation's largest producer of electric parts, and Zava Achromatic Corporation, which has a monopoly in Almorea's silver industry.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Carldon Hall tried to calm markets by offering assurances that "both parties are engaged in friendly, intensive, and productive conversations over this issue." Treasury Secretary Walton Balliol, spotted on his way to lunch at a Kingsford restaurant, confirmed that he had spoken to the CEOs of major Almorean corporations in a conference call this morning; officials at the Department of Trade are understood to be in discussion with their Totzkan counterparts tonight.

The trade deal will likely be one of the main items on the agenda when Totzkan President Fransisco Améro, along with new Marian Prime Minister Lacerda, visit Ellsburgh in late January.

President Hallowell will meet with Federalist leaders, along with trade officials, again on January 9 to seek out some solution to the impasse, according to Carldon Hall.

Paulo Lacerda takes office as Prime Minister of Dragão do Mar

In a ceremony of inauguration in Fortaleza, Paulo Lacerda, leader of the Marian Workers' Party (PTM), has been sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of Dragão do Mar after the 1946 constitution.

The ceremony started at 1:00 pm, when Paulo Lacerda addressed the crowd in the front of the Pindaíba Palace, the the official residence and workplace of the head of government of Dragão do Mar. Check here a part of the address:

If there's a word which represented the desire of the Marian people in the elections of December, it's "Change". The hope finally triumphed over fear and the society decided to follow a different path, and gave to me and my party the responsibility to lead the country for the next four years.

We've faced the stagnation of a economic model that, instead of providing equal grow, did only benefit the rich, while the poor continue in the same previous situation. We've faced the disaster of a culture of individualism and egocentrism that divided the families, communities and a entire population. We've observed a lamentable way to conduce the Marian foreign affairs, by treating with courtesy those who don't deserve it, and ignoring those who should to be our ultimate allies.

In the begging of my government, my objective will be to improve the essential public services, the education and healthcare, which suffered heavy investment cuts in the last decades, and with that, bring a equal opportunities and a decent standard of living to every Marian despite its economic class, ethnicity, religion or any other factor. That will be a important step to reduce the growing inequality in our country.

At 2:00 pm, Lacerda, his wife Manuela and his son Gabriel entered in a car heading through blocked streets to the Chamber of Deputies, protected by a convoy taking Paulo Lacerda’s to his swearing-in ceremony. During the course, he waved at the crowd grouped in the sidewalks.

Speech of the King Lorenzo.

At 2:30 pm, the PM-elect and elected deputies entered in the chamber assembly to start the solemn session.
The session was opened with a speech of the King Lorenzo Santiago. Check here a part of the speech:

Over the past few years Dragão do Mar has got back on firmer ground. The financial and economic crisis stayed in the past. However, many in this country consider access to good health care and education as essential services to a well-functioning society. For many decades, Dragão do Mar had one of the best public healthcare systems in the region. The fact is, however, that the cost of care was outpacing economic growth, so reforms have been made since the beginning of this century to raise cost awareness, wastage combat and tackling fraud. But, attending to the demands of the Marian population, one of the interests of the new government will be recovering the quality that our public services had before, and bringing them to all the corners of our country.

Being aware of the ambitions of our new head of government, I'm sure that a stable economy during the next years will be vitally important. With that in mind, the government aims to strengthen the economic growth potential of Dragão do Mar. This will lay the basis for the creation of more jobs and the maintaining of both public and business confidence. Achieving that will take time and perseverance, for sure, and it is in our interests to work with other countries, particularly our closest neighbours.

Apart from difficulties, we have plenty of reasons to be proud of the progress that Dragão do Mar continues to achieve. We have good infrastructure, and the rule of law is strong. The government is a firm advocate of fundamental rights and freedoms, and steps in when breaches occur. Inciting hatred, threatening violence or discriminating against population groups are not tolerated under any circumstances. We'll guarantee that everyone in Dragão do Mar feel safe and protected. We'll guarantee that everyone feel free to openly express their beliefs, convictions and sexual orientation. The government is decided to combat extremism and intolerance. Dragão do Mar is resilient in this respect, building on a long tradition of freedom and unity.

The National Anthem being played in the chamber.

At 2:50 pm, Paulo Lacerda signs a document officiating his inauguration as Prime Minister and delivers a speech. Check here a part of the speech:

I want to reaffirm my commitment to the Marian workers who want to work in decent conditions and live from the fruits of the work. It will be a objective of my government to revoke the reform of the Labor Code approved by the previous Prime Minister. I'll create the Project First Job, creating job vacancies directed to the young Marians who find great difficulty to enter in the labor market. I also reaffirm my commitment to the elderly people, who had a working life and deserve to live properly, as It is also a plan of my government to revoke the reform of the welfare.

Dragão do Mar is a great country. Despite all the discriminatory hardship faced by part of our population through the Marian history, specially by the indigenous and the Tamus, we successfully created a multicultural and diversified nation, which displays unique features in every place you can imagine. But even through some aspects may divide us, everyone born in Dragão do Mar speaks the same language and share the same feeling: the pride of being a Marian. Here any immigrant will welcomed, as we know that, due to our capacity of assimilation and our solidarity, every immigrant becomes one more Marian in few time.

In my government, the diplomacy will be oriented by the humanist perspective, and will aim the national development. Through the foreign commerce, the technological advance, investments and the foreign relations of Dragão do Mar, we will improve the life standard of every Marian women and men, increasing the average income and creating jobs. We'll fight protectionism and pursue fair economic deals. We'll support the League of the Western Isles and any other international organization which pursues peace and prosperity. We'll defend our sovereignty by maintaining cordial international relationships and improving our armed forces, and we will defend the sovereignty of our allies against any foreign threat.

At 3:40 pm, Prime Minister Paulo Lacerda greeted King Lorenzo, foreign leaders including Alasdair Hallowell, President of Almorea, and ministers of foreign affairs from Brulafi and Suvurnia, as well as other diplomatic representatives.

At 6:00 pm, Paulo Lacerda, his wife Manuela Lacerda and his son Gabriel returned to the Pindaíba Palace. The King Lorenzo Santiago returned to the Royal Palace.

Gran Teran, January 8, 2019
|Plans For 2019||S.J.|
This morning as most of us were preparing for work, school, or other activities, Hearn Lucas Canone addressed the nation in his first speech to the Jimenean people of 2019. The Hearn affirmed his belief that San Jimenez must act and make efforts to take the lead as a nation able to sustain itself economically and defend itself militarily. While plans for those still remain generally unclear, it is expected to see legislation coming from the College of Confederates that will surely be made law by Hearn Canone with little to no resistance. The Guadalupana Party, a hardline conservative Catholic political party, currently dominates the College of Confederates and are fairly friendly to Hearn Canone's policies other than the hearn's plans for amnesty for former Republicans. Canone urged Jimeneans to revisit their purpose and values that make them Jimenean and went on to rally citizens to bring San Jimenez out of the shadows and into the light of progress in 2019. Here is the hearn's address that was aired this morning on national television:

Good morning San Jimenez and a happy new year to you. I'm not sure if you know this about myself personally but I am a firm believer that any organization, group, or company must have a goal in sight for success to be imminent. So it is with a country. We, as a nation, must have a goal to achieve, a desire that we must make come true, and a dream that we can make our reality. San Jimenez must emerge from the past year of war, destruction, and doubts to a new year of power, progress, and hopes. First and foremost, we need to establish an economy that can prosper and give back the jobs and wages to the Jimenean people. This includes creating and finding ways to become energy sufficient as well. This country has an abundance of high winds in the northern and southern highlands. It would be in the interest of the nation to produce and develop wind turbines to harness this potential supplier of energy. Along with energy, jobs would be brought into San Jimenez to ensure that these turbines are kept in their most high-grade condition. Overall, this potential must be brought to light and made into a reality for our country. The construction of these turbines would be virtually costless for the Jimenean taxpayer. It is with great and absolute thanks that I give to the nation of Almorea for sending aid to rebuild this economy. I also stand with my promise to repay these debts and give more than we were entrusted with as a sign of good faith from the nation of San Jimenez. This will come after we are able to build an infrastructure that can bring prosperity back to the Jimenean companies who strive to build a place for the average person to find a living. Our goal, ours, ought to be to develop a San Jimenez that is capable of delivering these promises.

My second plan of action is the creation of a military that is able to defend the island of San Jimenez from any country or organization that should wish to bring acts of war upon our country. Although we have some allies in the Isles we also have a larger number of enemies or nations who would wish to see San Jimenez's influence brought to a halt. This must occur. If we have a nation that can prosper then we must have a nation that can defend it. The College of Confederates has made a few proposals to increases spending for our military and develop better weapons of war for the national military. It is with confidence that I can say we will push for more legislation like this and we will deliver on our promise to build a military able to defend our homes, our rights, and our people.

We have one goal, one word for 2019. Prosper. As a nation and for we as individuals. Put all you have into your work. Give all the compassion and love you have for your family and neighbor. We must each be a servant to each other to build a San Jimenez that is worthy of our blood, sweat, and tears. My administration will do all it can to put this nation on the path to prosperity but it is only you, the people, who can make this desire, this dream, a reality.

It is with confidence and trust that I leave you to carry on your day and your year the best of your ability. Let us give our all for not only ourselves but our nation and our Christ. ¡Gracias, que Dios defienda el derecho!

Expect to see those changes come into action soon. We at the GTG hope your own resolutions are kept just as well! That is all the news we have for you at the moment, goodnight San Jimenez!

PM DORIAS SHOCKS NATION: "I HAVE SEVERE DEPRESSION; INTEND TO STEP DOWN SOON"

Image
Prime Minister Dorias

Prime Minister Rikard Vulf Dorias announced this afternoon his intention to submit his resignation to President Den Heyes and leave politics for good. "I suffer from a condition known as Major Depressive Disorder," he explained, "and cannot continue serving as Prime Minister any longer." Dorias added that he would remain in office for several more weeks, in order to facilitate an effective transition. "There are many procedures required in this situation, and it is in our national interest to do it as smoothly as possible."

"I have come to terms with the reality of my situation, which had been hindering my ability to work and maintain this office," Dorias stated in a shaky voice. "The past few months have been extremely difficult for me and my family, and have recently led me to this decision. I must apologize to you, the people of Ostehaar, and to my supporters and voters, to whom I owe much gratitude." Dorias led The Labor Party to another victory in the recent general elections two years ago, in February 2017.

The statement comes mere days after the beginning of a campaign, orchestrated and promoted by opposition parties, calling for snap elections. Dorias' main critic, opposition leader Mikahel Si Ardner, appeared in a short viral video last week and attacked the current government. "This administration is weak, inadequate, and paralyzed," Ardner said in the video, "and it has failed to react properly in almost every issue our country faces these days." Other opposition officials called for Dorias' resignation as part of the campaign, blaming him for Ostehaar's current strategic and political muddle.

Senior officials - from within the government as well - claimed that the Prime Minister was under intense pressure lately, mainly due to his office's part in the 'Land Deal' case. Last June had seen a significant break-through in the investigation revolving primarily around the RDF and Ministry of Defense. "High-level officials in Dorias' government were involved in one of the largest frauds in the history of Ostehaar," Ardner said at the time. "Dorias himself would have to answer for that."

Columnist Dr. Dehren Si Braant estimated that the deteriorating situation in Lovsk, coupled with the rising stakes in the efforts against Thuzbekistan, are the real reason for the Prime Minister's discouraged state. "Dorias is a political mastermind and could have successfully navigated through the RDF issue," Si Braant claimed in an interview this evening. "What he is not, is a militaristic hawk. I think that he gradually lost his control over the Oster security establishment lately, and now he has to deal with consequences of actions he did not even push for."

Dr. Si Braant: "[Prime Minister Dorias] was against keeping Lovsk, against interfering in Arvan and San Javier, and against the recent Vancouvian approach, but his agenda was pushed aside by people like Minister of Defense Aarin Dulikh, senior advisor Alex Vulf, and yes, even high-raking officers in the military itself. The one time he supported the 'hawkish' approach - lately in Orsandia - the operation eventually died out and public opinion turned against the intervention as a whole. It devastated him."

According to Ostehaar's Constitution, since Oster voters elect party lists only, and not candidates for Prime Minister - If the Prime Minister resigns, the acting coalition is given 21 days to propose a nominee from among its members, who would complete the term. The President can then either approve or reject the nominee. During that time, or until snap elections are held, the acting Prime Minister is the individual appointed Temar Daaft (Second Head) - currently Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Brahurer.

Greater Pretoria News
Jan-9-19
Sara Huber

Good evening, this is Greater Pretoria News with your host, Sara Huber.
Just moments ago, Chancellor Oliver Von König made an emergency broadcast across all Pretorian phones that as of 6:30PM, the Pretorian Accords and all related documents are to be indefinitely suspended and rendered void. This means that our constitution, Imperial Council, and all political parties are now free to operate as before. This has shocked the nation and has many people confused and angry.
However he went on to say this...

" ...my actions were not my own, I was manipulated, tortured, and black mailed into staging the Imperial Fire, and forced to sign the ensuing documents. Jack Lewis Wayne was the true person responsible. He was responsible for the termination of Republican and Communist party members and he was responsible for our great nation being turned into a police state.
The reason I am able to inform you of this, is because my brother, Ryan, realized that he was being used and when i secretly informed him of what was truly going on, he gathered the few soldiers truly loyal to him, and with my SSD agents, our combined force stormed Jack's home and killed all persons on the property, including Jack.
The king was being confined to his palace room the entire time this was going on, and upon being released, he orderd all living persons responsible to be exiled out of Pretoria, and to re establish the democratic process."

This is upsetting news, but it goes to show how easily it is for our government to be infiltrated by the outside. For thid exact reason, both the King, and Oliver have agreed to keep the SSD operational, however under heavy watch.
We can only hope that Pretoria can recover from this and return to being democratic society.

That is all from Greater Pretoria News with your host Sara Huber. Have a great evening Pretoria.

Winter Storm Hits Northern Severya

Image

By Vaslav Ivanov, 11-1-19 2:26

Severya's Northern Territories are being pummeled by a severe winter storm, dubbed "Boris." Most of the state has been put on a winter storm watch, along with parts of Ostrovki to the south. Winter Storm Boris is expected to travel southwest across the states of Serybereg and Sosnovles before dissipating. Winds of up to 35 miles per hour and visibility below 1/2 of a kilometer are expected, bound to make this difficult for pilots and commuters.

Travelers at Kholmgrad International Airport are already experiencing severe delays and canceled flights. Some people are stuck in the airport and have to wash their hair and brush their teeth in the airport facilities.

Motorway A8 has been experiencing widespread accidents thanks to the snow-covered, icy, and slick highways. Drive down A8 and you are bound to see a jackknifed truck or a crashed car.

"Remember, Severyans," says the Severyan Weather Network. "Stay safe, stay vigilant, and if you can, stay indoors."

The Sitrian City States - to become socialist?!

Political Columnist and former aide to the Trīcamp Chancellory

The Conciliary Federation's longest national emergency is set to come to an end as soon as the Aratscunsil ("States' Council") meets to amend the Federation's Constitution. The federation is said to be moving to become an one party/faction state. The Aratsiyyesusiyalemeršt ("The Union Socialist Coalition") is said to assume complete control of the Federation by day's end - officially ending what it calls "a 15 year unofficial hegemony over the legislature." The reasons for such a drastic political move is not entirely clear, but as it stands the leftist faction has had power for the past 20 years, and in the last 3 it saw the opposition take to drastic means to ensure that leftist control could never truly be consolidated. Following the Conservative Party's paramilitary attack on the Federation Chancellory, the left has never been more unified. For the first time in decades the nation will have a renovated system of politics, paving the way for what the Coalition calls a "tricameral legislature led by a chancellor as the Prime Councilor." The legislature is assumed to even dissolve the Presidency, Judiciary, and State's Bank in lieu of creating a new socialist state to unify the city states of Sitria. What has happened to the liberal republic that we once called home? What has happened to our representative democracy! Will anyone stop the onslaught of the left.In terms of the Federation, maybe not.

2018 was a bad year for Athara Magarati businesses; 2019 might get even worse

Image
CASware poster

NEW LIBANG

2018 for Athara Magarati companies was changed dramatically by the heavy sanctions placed on Samudera regarding their covert involvement in the Orsandian Civil War. Since most of the Magarati companies relied extensively on Samuderan workforce, it was adapt or extinct. Chhantyal Accounting Systems (CASware), Jirium Corporation and Athawa Sports shifted their branches to Menna Shuli and started replacing their Samuderan employees with even cheaper Mennan workforce.

As the year progressed and the sanctions remained, consumer electronics giant Kodo Company was forced to sell its renowned subsidiary Kite Communications, developers of the Kite voice chat and voice call app, to White-Liang Technologies of Dormill and Stiura. Similarly, Chitrakar Studios, the company spearheading the Isles video game industry with games like the first-person shooter Prime Assault and grand-strategy series War and Conquest, sold their key subsidiary Neo Arts, developers of War and Conquest: The Isles Greatest Empires, to Negarakitan social media giant Surat. And then there was the high-profile purchase of Dami Tech by their long-time rivals, tech giant Conway from Alteran Republics.

If 2018 was a bad year for Magarati businesses, 2019 started even worse. State-owned alcoholic beverage producer Power Beer was rocked by a sex scandal involving 88 men and 20 women working for it. The employees had organised two days of orgy from Tamu Losar (December 31st) till New Year at Hotel Tromni in Eurania. Among the 250 prostitutes hired by the Power Beer employees included trafficked Enchantan children who were apparently supplied by a Magarati couple posing as refugees in Enchanta.

While both Power Beer and Jrm Hangma have apologized regarding these incidents and promised to hand the most severe of punishments according to Magarati law, Euranian and Enchantan officials have not extradited the Power Beer employees or the Magarati couple involved in child trafficking ring yet.

The situation for Magarati businesses worsened when the Diva-i-Magarati doubled the vehicle tax "in order to reduce private ownership of vehicles, traffic jams and pollution, import of foreign vehicles and to make the citizens travel more on city buses and trains where transportation is free with Mgarati e-citizenship card." Deepak BC, the owner of bikes and car supplier BC Motorcycles, stated that the Magarati government was making life more and more miserable for Magarati businessmen.

"We already have to pay so many taxes. 50% income tax. Tax allocate to whoever is deemed indigenous by the government. Land tax. Property tax. Now the hike in vehicle tax. And I hear that they are now introducing heavy taxation for those who refuse the new system of government-arranged marriages." Mr BC told the Herald. "Our nation is being drowned in taxes. The sad thing is people still blindly support the government. People tell me that our progress from a war-torn and divided nation to now would not be possible without taxes. People tell me that we have 36,000 per capita income, apparently one of the highest in the Isles, thanks to our supreme government. People tell me to trust the government for our leaders are always right. This sort of system is why all the big businesses employ foreign workers and have only headquarters in Magarat. This sort of system is why youths marry foreigners and move to foreign nations. And our people and government alike still scratch their head on why our companies are more foreign-based or why population is decreasing or why no one wants to emigrate to Athara Magarat, even when it is supposedly one of the most stable and progressive countries in the Isles."

Not helping Magarati companies in their case at all is the 2018 Central Argus Crisis where Athara Magarati navy blockaded and still maintains heavy presence over the waters of territories of Unovi and Yitoria (currently under administration of Razzgriz) and Jaring (occupied by San Montagna after the 30th Parallel War). Trade Secretary Donald Hauke of Almorea stated that the AMRETA trade deal between Almorea and Athara Magarat was under heavy scrutiny and under threat of being scrapped. Many Magarati businessmen echoed his concerns.

"The 2018 Central Argus Crisis and this Power Beer Sex Scandal has not helped Magarati businessmen in any way. We are seen as untrustworthy by our partners. How are we even supposed to do business if there is no trust?" Chairman Sachin Prasad of Nagesia-Dhari Limited said.

Gran Teran, January 18, 2019
|Jimenean Volunteers||S.J.|
Since the address by Hearn Canone was made ten days ago, roughly 95,000 citizens reported to their nearest recruiting station and volunteered to serve for San Jimenez in active military service. During Canone's address, he prompted the College of Confederates to increase military spending to better defend San Jimenez from threats abroad. During his address, Hearn Canone made an attempt to sway the population to support the resolution. By the looks of it, some in the country took the Hearn's resolution to heart. Over the course of ten days, many from all over the island joined in support of the call to defend. As many joined up in the ranks, Canone scheduled to make an appearance at most military bases in the country in hopes to raise morale among the new recruits and personally thank them for choosing to serve.

Canone has stated that his primary focus would be on the Jimenean Navy to better defend the island. With the recruitment of sailors, the need for the manufacturing of naval war vessels is expected to be in high demand. Due to this, the College of Confederates has already passed an increase in military spending to compensate for the costs of this endeavor. The Department of National Defense has released that it plans to patrol Jimenean waters strictly unless the need arises for the Jimenean Navy to deploy in international waters. The Department of National Defense has not yet made what kind of vessels will be used to patrol and which kind will be manufactured public.

Before his flight, Hearn Canone said to dozens of reporters present, "This is only the beginning of a new chapter". We can predict that more military operations are to be carried out by his administration in the following months.

That is currently all the news we have for you at the moment. Thank you for choosing the Gran Teran Gazette. Goodnight San Jimenez!

'UHITAP "CONSCIOUS AND RESPONSIVE", SAY DOCTORS

SHUHAKALLU - Doctors on the 'uhitap's recovery team have announced today that the 'uhitap is "conscious, aware and responsive to stimuli". Following his stroke earlier this year, the nation's leader was in a coma for months, with doctors predicting poor chance of recovery. He awoke three weeks ago, shocking medical professionals, and has since shown substantial signs of recovery.

"While the 'uhitap is far from mobile or vocal, he is responding to yes and no questions via a form of blinking code we have developed," says Dr. Kikuta Ikuti, the 'uhitap's head doctor. "In point of fact, at this time it seems that the 'uhitap has retained most, if not all, of his previous mental faculties. The damage caused by the stroke at this time seems to have been primarily concentrated in areas of the brain associated with physical movement. Many of the 'uhitap's functions are still being done by machines."

This news has been welcomed by members of the government, who hope that 'uhitap Âspu may be able to reenter the responsibilities of his position sooner rather than later. A constitutional fervor has swept through the Sâtêp, with expanding divisions between those set on the path of determining a legal document outlining the nation's political rights and regulations, and those opposed to it on traditional grounds.

"Our country is not one where everything needs to be cemented by ink and paper," says Hitap Mipax Shutu. "We have our traditions and our prestige, and this is what is needed for the Mênnan people. Constitutionalism is equal to the disbandment of our traditions of hierarchy and safety. We cannot cave to the pressure put on us by terror groups and Western imperialists."

At least three vêkita'at protesters have self-immolated in imitation of low-caste martyr Kita Têtê Kiâi since the news of the 'uhitap's awakening went public, and officials expect more to be on the way following today's news.

"After a botched copycat job set fire to a housing block in Ikitishu Walled City last week, we have ensured heightened response by city emergency services," announced Hitap Kêkataê' Mkêpa, Prince-Governor of Shuhakallu. "On top of the increased risks posed by resurgent protest groups, we wish to be prepared."

Protests are heightened not just in response to the 'uhitap's improved state, but also to make voices heard as the 'uhitap a Tempore finally meets with several key protest leaders this week.

"A time of unprecedented peace is dawning," said the 'AT at a conference before the meetings are set to start. "Be prepared for big changes in our country. Big changes and a brighter tomorrow."

BREAKING: MISSING AIRLINER FOUND, ALONG WITH ONE SURVIVOR

Image

TURBAY- After a week of searching, the remains of the BrulAir Tu-154 downed over Joseph O'Reilly People's National Forest have been found scattered over a 2-acre area. Thanks to the efforts of the intrepid volunteers who turned out in droves to search for the remains of their airborne comrades, the flight's "black box" has been recovered, in addition to one survivor. The survivor, 25-year-old flight attendant Alayna Cohen, was found living in a makeshift shelter, having set up camp under the downed airliner's left wing in a sign of the deft work ethic that brave Brulafis are endowed with, even in times of conflict. Comrade Cohen has been delivered to Peterson General Hospital in Wilhelmsburg for special medical treatment, though she was recorded as stating "I am fine, even capable of going back to work next week, even, if my comrades asked me to!" Unfortunately, none of her comrades aboard the doomed airliner shared her fate. While the names of the victims have not been released to protect their families' privacy, their families have been notified either through the Townsider Embassy in Turbay or through the People's Security Bureau.

In a concerted effort to avoid similar catastrophes in the future, the General Assembly has voted to deliver emergency funding to the National Transportation Safety Oversight Bureau in order to open a full and thorough investigation into the causes and potential fixes for the issue encountered by the Tu-154 over Joseph O'Reilly People's National Forest. In addition, all Tupolev Tu-154s of BrulAir have been officially grounded by the Ministry of Transportation, and all Tu-154s owned by foreign airlines have been banned from entering the country until the cause has been determined and a fix to the issue has been applied. Said Transportation Minister Kira O'Reilly of the incident,

This tragedy is a sign that all Brulafi citizens must be vigilant, and all must work together to ensure that our work is only of the highest quality, in order to prevent deterioration and potential—or actual, in this case—loss of life. The Tupolev Model 154 is an aged Soviet model, and the loss of this relic of the last century is a clear sign that we must continue with our Socialist ideals and look to the future in the construction and acquisition of a new generation of jetliners.

Severyan Cup qualifying rounds begin

Image

By Vaslav Ivanov, 18-1-19 18:07 GMT

The Severyan Cup, one of the most prestigious rally events in The Western Isles, is set to begin Monday. For decades, people from across the world have flocked to see some of the best rally drivers compete for the Severyan Cup's eponymous trophy. The Cup is famous for its twisting mountain roads and breathtaking views along the slick, icy, 65-kilometer course, nicknamed the "White Hell" for the route's famously dangerous roads and inclement weather.

Anton Volkov, champion of the Cup in 2016 and 2017 and famous for his crash last year in his Mitsubishi Lancer, is planning to return to the Cup this year.

"You can't let a minor setback like a little crash set you back and stop you from racing," Volkov says. "I've recovered, I've got a new car, and I'm ready to take on the Cup and win."

The Cup, sponsored by Fount Soda, will run from January 21 to January 29th. Officials are expecting a large turnout this year thanks to the lower cost of tickets. People from Severya, The Western Isles, and all across the world cannot wait. If you are interested in going to the Severyan Cup, you can purchase tickets here.

BREAKING NEWS - Vehicle "mounts pavement" in central Vestvik

11:18am
Police in Vestvik have confirmed a "number of injuries and fatalities" after a van mounted a pavement on Super Saturday, a day in which prices in essentially all stores are slashed, attracting hundreds upon thousands of shoppers.

However, the shopping atmosphere in central Vestvik was torn apart when a "white van with the logo of a repair company" mounted one of the busiest pavements in the entire city and "hit people at speed"

Police have not released any figures regarding the dead or injured and they are still working to secure the area.

Police are appealing to anyone who has information to come to them immediately.

This news has recently been broken and details remain unknown. Updated editions will soon follow with new information.

BREAKING NEWS - Three confirmed dead, seven injured as central Vestvik evacuated in bomb fears

What we know so far:
- Three people have been killed and seven have been injured after a van mounted a pavement in Vestvik
- Police begin an evacuation of many buildings in the direct vicinity after a suspicious device was found in the van
- Police warn people to be vigilant as the attacker remains at large
- PM makes a statement condemning the "shocking, depraved and cowardly attack"
- Police unsure if terrorist related

14:36pm
Three people have been killed and seven have been injured following an incident in central Vestvik in which a van bearing the license plate NVK 0 A1O4 and the markings of repair company Olsson's mounted a pavement and hit pedestrians with "horrific intent".
Police had confirmed the deaths and injuries just over three hours after the attack had occurred, when the van careered down Vestvik's busiest pavement, swerving from side to side reportedly "trying to hit everyone".

The vehicular attack came to a conclusion when the van crashed into a wall around 44 seconds when the attack started, and police have warned all citizens of Vestvik and visitors from other areas and regions to return home, reporting that the attacker is "still at large".
After making the initial warning police instead began to evacuate central Vestvik after a "suspicious device" was found in the rear of the van. Police have not confirmed if the device is an explosive

Prime Minister Marco Steneren spoke following the incident.

"It is a shocking, depraved and cowardly attack on the most peaceful people in the world as they go about their daily business. The fact that we have lost three fellow Korresians and seven others have had their lives changed forever is a horrifying prospect. However we are Korresians, and we are strong. We will recover from this. The brave police have done incredible work in keeping other people safe and our collective respect for them will forever remain unwavered."

King Carl also said that "Korresians are strong, it is in their DNA and together we will recover" in a statement posted online following the attack.

Police have remained tight-lipped on whether this is an attack associated with a terrorist group or a lone wolf incident. This is potentially the first terrorist attack in Korresia since 2011.

Rippen Airfield in the Summer of 2018

After Only Two Years, Arván Becomes A Battlefield Again
Written by: Lilian Talot

The peninsula has seen many conflicts between bordering powers, and now that Dormill and Stiura has declared support for the Noronnican Government, a conflict is set to occur again in the south of the Prefectorial State, where loyal royalist troops remain to repel the occupying Dormill-Stiuraian force which only a few days ago captured Base Fleur. Although no formal declaration against the foreign troops has been issued, the Noro-Arvanan force is expected to deter their progress.

A so-called 'phoney-war' by some on social media, the conflict on mainland Noronica has come to a pause as both sides cautiously edge towards each other by prodding the others' resolve. In what is a very frightening period of time, many are wondering whether this conflict will soon become deadly or whether an agreement shall be met. In Arván however, it seems that the situation is turning for the worse, as Dormill-Stiuraian troops have entered into the peninsula recognised as the Prefectorial State of Arván by many members of the League of the Western Isles.

In a confusing move by Prime Minister Joshua McIntosh, an order was given for the immediate removal of Noronnican troops from the peninsula so as to defend against the forces commanded by Overlord Tytus. Many units defied the order, however, remaining within the peninsula to defend against the invading Dormill-Stiuraian forces, despite the Prime Minister declaring the move by Dormill and Stiura to be lawful and wise.

In that regard, the troops remaining in Arván are now too late to change their minds as the invading force has moved swiftly northwards towards them. For the citizens of Rippen, this means that a conflict might occur on their doorstep, something which has not been seen on the peninsula since 2017. By the order of the Prefect, citizens of Rippen are being told to remain within their homes and to comply only to his orders via communication over the radio, television or their smartphones.

The defenders consist of approximately 1,200 troops, who have blockaded themselves within Rippen Airfield, a position that is strategically vital for taking the city and thus the western side of Arván. In comparison, the Dormill-Stiuraian force consists of around 6-7,000 troops according to official Dormill-Stiuraian military statistics.

The Arvanan Dispatch has so far been unsuccessful in getting any insight into the plans for the peninsula other than what has been published through the media and state channels, so as an unofficial request, we ask that our readers take heed to military orders being conveyed to them and to remain calm.

Are you in Rippen as a resident or conducting business there? If so, to conduct the accurate telling of events, the Arván Post asks that you submit your stories through letters, emails or through our TWItter.

The Arván Post will keep you updated on this story. If you want to be first to be updated, make sure to allow notifications on your device.
