AECAT: How will the new Almorean-Totzka trade deal affect you?
Image
Totzkan trucks filled with cotton, meat and spice already are
preparing to cross the Yhai steppe into Almorea.

At 1.00 PM on Friday Presidents Alasdair Hallowell and Francisco Améro signed a major trade agreement that looks to reduce Totzka’s energy costs and improve the quality of Totzka’s infrastructure and industrial output by allowing our companies to access high quality Almorean made electrical products and machinery for lower rates. Totzkan trucks filled with cotton, meat and spice already are preparing to cross the Yhai steppe into Almorea. But what does the new Almorean-Totzkan Economic and Trade Agreement (AECAT), also called Almorea-Totzka All-inclusive Free Trade Agreement or ATAFTA in Almorea, mean for the average Totzkan?

Cheaper gas
AECAT commits the Totzkan and Almorean government into building 270 billion Escurita pipeline (or 4 billion Almorean dollars) that will that will traverse the Yhai steppe supplying us with clean tariff free Almorean Oil. When buying petrol for your home’s generator expect to see the price reduced by an average of 336 ES$ per cannister.

Improved Infrastructure
While, in many respects, Almorea and Totzka are developing at the same rates it cannot be denied that Almoreans, in general, enjoy a better quality of life than Totzkans. But thanks to generosity of President Hallowell (or perhaps the hard-selling of Améro) Totzkan companies have been incentivised to purchase high quality Almorean-made electrical goods. This could lead to huge improvements in telecommunications and homebuilding within Totzka.

New employment opportunities
President Améro supposedly put a lot of effort into raising Almorean import quotas on Totzka’s key imports; AECAT commits Almorea into importing 51% of its steel and aluminium, between 35% and 55% of its cattle and spice and 80% of its cotton from Totzka. This will certainly mean Totzkan manufacturers should expect some large contracts arising from the deal and will be looking to recruit more workers as a result. The increased demand for Totzkan agriculture should also see rural landowners looking to hire more farmhands, leading to unemployed city-folk migrating to the countryside and taking the pressure on housing of the south coast cities.

Ilhan and Pamil minorities in Yhaiva sign anti-secession petition
Image
A Segunda Cláusula Movement rally in Tsukh Mina

More than 32,000 Pamil and Ilhans who reside in Yhaiva have signed a petition calling on the Federal Government to defend them in the event of the three Yhai states voting to secede from the Totzkan Union in the upcoming new year’s day referendum. The petition reads “The constitution mandates that the Federal Government must protect the life, identity and culture of all Totzkans. To uphold this the government must allow the 89,000 non-Yhai citizens currently living in Yhaiva to remain citizens of the Totzkan Union if Yhaiva seeks independence”. Adi Bianco Neheres, the writer of the petition, claims that areas in the south of the Yhai state of Terra de Salash, which has a large Ilhan and Pamil presence, should remain within the Union. This anti-secession movement, who call themselves ‘the Segunda Cláusula Movement’, have over 50,000 members (according to Neheres) and argue that in the event of Yhai independence there will be no protection for the minorities living in Yhaiva. A common concern among the movement’s members is that a new Yhai national government will attempt to force minorities out of Yhaiva. Alongside the Segunda Cláusula Movement a more radical fringe group, the ‘Army of 1901’ has emerged and is gaining traction online. This group have already suggested they are willing to use physical force to defend themselves against a potential attack from a post-independence Yhai government.

However, the proposed breaking up of Yhaiva would be an extremely controversial and potential unconstitutional action for the Federal Government to take. The Chirapati administration encouraged Ilhan and Pamil emigration into Yhaiva through the 1980s to work extracting crude bitumen from Yhaiva’s oil sands. As a result, most of Yhaiva’s minorities reside around the region’s most valuable natural resources and any attempt to keep these areas within the Union post-independence would be perceived as theft by the Yhai. In a press conference the new state-president of Terra de Salash, Ado’Illusan Vilo, stated that the Yhai would “resist any attempt to divide Yhaiva or steal it’s natural wealth. Illusan’s party, the Front For The Yhai Nation, recently agreed to support to President Améro’s government within the Comissão Popular in return for Améro guaranteeing a referendum on Yhai independence so it currently seems unlikely that the voice of 32,000 Totzkan citizens will be heard by the government. The petition is to be presented to the Comissão Popular tomorrow.

Parliament votes to reschedule snap election to January 2nd

Image

By Harrison Wall, Political Correspondent

Those eligible to vote are to do so much earlier than previously proposed.

The original date for Prime Minister Ledger's snap election was December 4th, just before the end of the Christmas Holidays. However, following a motion set out by opposition leader Nathan Everett to bring the election closer, Kotelians are to vote on January 2nd.

The motion moved the date two days closer, and Everett said that "we must allow sufficient time for campaigning whilst giving the people the right to put their confidence in the weak Prime Minister, or a strong government led by me".

The motion was initially questioned by the Forum, but Prime Minister Ledger welcomed the motion and, surprisingly, encouraged the house to vote in favour of it.

The Conservative Party's chief whip Abigail Hilder failed in urging party members to vote against the motion calling it "utterly unnecessary" despite the Prime Minister's open encouragement of the motion.

Hilder still led a small sect of around 55 MPs who all voted against. The motion was voted in favour by all remaining MPs.

Foreign Ministry Declares 1963 Gresswell Island Treaty "Spineless Diplomacy", Announces Withdrawal
12-16-18

"The Gresswell Island Treaty of 1963," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, "is a shining example of Spineless Diplomacy. In a time of weakness, The People's Republic foolishly recognized the island as Anshlen Territory despite the known fact that Oster agents were using the Isle as a base of operations. As of January 20th, 2019, we will withdraw from the treaty."

The statement was made early this morning as Thuzbek citizens have been migrating to the Isle in search of work after the Baslov Shipyard was shut down. It is unknown how long this has been in play or why, exactly, Foreign Minister Nalik chose now to make the statement after four years in his position.

The Treaty, which declared the Isle to be Anshlen territory and prohibited military assets from being on the Isle, was signed in 1963 as the famine of that year was killing thousands of Thuzbek citizens. It was signed by then Prime Minister Emirhan, who guided the country through its first decade after the Magistry fell in 1952. He was ousted in 1964 after the famine had carried on for 3 years.

If Thuzbekistan withdraws, it will no longer be bound by the treaty to recognize the Anshlen territory and will not be prohibited from having military assets in the area. However, Thuzbek researchers on the island monitoring global warming for the University of Ashluv may no longer to be allowed on the island either.

"Despite this announcement, we will continue our climate research until we are no longer allowed to do so," the Director of Climate Science at the University said in a statement shortly afterwards. "We hope, however, that the Anshlen and Oster authorities do not include the researchers in any response."

Any response the Osters and Anshlens may have will not be positive, said Emin Vedat in a quick Q and A outside his home.

"We can fully expect the Anshlens to be angered and worried by this move. As Prime Minister, I always honored the agreement because it was a sensible one, just as the Oster-Thuzbek Naval Passage Agreement is," Vedat said in the session. "Whatever line of thinking Prime Minister Cihangir has taken in this announcement must be placed in context. If this is an attempt to bully our way out of sanctions, then it shows the desperation of this administration."

The Prime Minister's office could not be reached for a comment.

This is a breaking news story and Thuzbek State News will follow it closely.

Welcome to the 2018-19 Union League Season, where the best of the best of Football in Dormill and Stiura compete for the top honors and the spots to compete in Gael and abroad. Here are the recaps of each game from Week 1.
Rattenberg FC 4 - 1 Enoire AC @ Rattenberg Unie-Heraut Stadium, Rattenberg
Attendance: 7,494

The week started with a classic match-up of Dutch vs. French as Enoire travelled out to Rattenberg for the opening match. With a homefield advantage and a strong crowd of nearly 7500, Rattenberg quickly took dominance over the game and scored thrice before the half. Soon after the second half began, Enoire managed to keep the game from being a complete blowout by scoring in a stunning drive, but it was too little too late and Rattenberg secured the last goal in an awesome kick at 87’.

Waalwijk FC 1 - 1 South Kapolder FC @ Aric Vroomen Stadium, Zuid Kapolder
Attendance: 5,145

Lake Vroomen was treated to an intense shooting match between the two teams, and even more masterful defensive plays from both sides, with 20 total shots made throughout the game, 6 were on goal. Zuid Kapolder suffered plenty of penalties throughout the game, even starting the game with a yellow card as a result of an illegal tackle. With Zuid Kapolder’s offense taking multiple penalties, Waalwijk kept themselves in the game by testing their opponent’s defense, but was left unable to score another goal after their first early one.

Helle AC 2 - 3 Courlaroux AC @ Lions Stadium, Helle
Attendance: 18,144

In the central Stiuraian city of Helle, the Reds and Whites stepped up their game from last year and made early work of Helle’s defenses, only to be thrown back after several off-target shots. Eventually, Courlaroux’s persistence wore down Helle and managed to score by 31’ and then again by 46’ As the game went on, Helle began to show signs of tiring out in the face of Courlaroux’s relentless offense, even the reserves were being cycled through at a quick pace, the aggressiveness of Courlaroux pushing the defenders to their breaking point by halftime. With much needed rest, the two teams went on the defensive, but not before Helle managed to finally score with a very lucky shot at 76’, which was quickly matched by the Reds and Whites at 80’. At the very least, Helle got out of the game with some dignity by scoring the last goal at 89’.

Chery FC 0 - 5 Kapolder City FC @ Bank van Kapolder Stadium, Kapolder
Attendance: 51,442

In the biggest upset of the season so far, Kapolder City absolutely ruins visiting Chery in a nasty 5 - 0 game, which considering they also beat Veldzicht to be last season’s champions should be a surprise to nobody. Showing no mercy early on, Kapolder City quickly scored in the first five minutes and didn’t let up for the rest of the game, even as Chery fought for every shot on goal they made that night. As the first half progressed, Kapolder City made several consecutive shots at the goal with virtually no response at all from Chery’s own strikers, driving the mood in the stadium. By halftime, most of the Chery fans had left as the second half opened with yet another Kapolder City goal. The game ended unceremoniously with a fifth and final goal at 89’.

Warnecque FC 1 - 3 Klappenberg FC @ Ayers Group Stadium, Warnecque
Attendance: 5,043

In the normally sleepy city of Warnecque, Dormill, football is one of the few things that brings the city to life, and their Tuesday evening game against Klappenberg was no exception. Unfortunately, the game did not start off well as Warnecque earned two yellow cards early on, only to be met with a well-placed goal by Klappenberg by 28’. The remainder of the first half and the early moments of the second half wasn’t much better for the home team either as they tried and failed to get a shot past Klappenberg’s goalkeeper. A brief respite from the damning loss at the hand of Klappenberg was found at the turn of 55’ with a nearly miraculous shot. Klappenberg was quick to respond however and scored again at 61’, and then ending the game with their third and final goal at 90’.

South Alban FC 2 - 1 Veldzicht FC @ Mistlicht-Studio Stadium, Veldzicht
Attendance: 53,289

Though not as big as a 5 - 0 upset like Chery at Kapolder City, Sud-Alban taking on and winning against long-time front-runner Veldzicht is enough of an upset to change the face of football for this season. The game was a proper shooting match as each team probed the defenses of the other and fought for possession throughout. However, an early (8’) goal by Sud-Alban showed that fight would be a surprisingly tough one for Veldzicht, gluing the packed stadium to their seats for most of the game. Veldzicht eventually answered with a goal of their own at 28’, tying the game and further emphasized the close nature of the game as a whole. Just seconds before halftime was called, Sud-Alban scored yet another goal, putting pressure on the home team as they returned to the locker rooms. Shaken up by a surprising showing from Sud-Alban, Veldzicht was on the back foot for the rest of the game, fighting off the visitors continued forays near the goal. The game ended rather uneventfully as the two teams failed to score in the second half.

Vlagberg AC 2 - 2 Kapolder-ElektroBedrijf FC @ Stiura Southern Rail Co. Stadium, Vlagberg
Attendance: 12,211

Away from home, Kapolder-ElektroBedrijf had a decent fight ahead against Vlagberg, which was quickly shown as the home team put up an aggressive defense, the game quickly turned in the favor of Vlagberg as their main striker, Arthur Van Aarle, made an excellent goal by 20’. However, in the heat of his celebration, he threw up gang signs known in the city, causing him to receive a Red Card, severely harming the position of his team for the rest of the game. Shaken but not discouraged, Vlagberg carried on a man short and kept up the pressure against Kapolder up until halftime. As the game resumed, Vlagberg was shown another yellow card, shaking up the defense enough to open it up for Kapolder-Elektrobedrijf, making two goals in two minutes of play and taking the lead. Vlagberg was quick to respond to the sudden change in events and scored a second goal and tying the game. The remainder of the game featured plenty of missed shots as young substitutes on both teams took the field.

Viares FC 4 - 1 Ringoven FC @ Orange Stadium, Ringoven
Attendance: 7,893

Ringoven’s fate as the least known city of Kapolder was certainly emphasized this week as Viares came in and taught the fans at Orange Stadium a thing or two about proper football. A fierce offense was the name of the game for Viares and they made quick work of Ringoven’s defense, making an early 20’ goal look like they were up against a Republics League team. Although Ringoven did eventually score against a subbed goalkeeper in 79’, the damage done was too well set to throw off the playing of Viares, which proceeded to score a final 89’ goal to end the game and the humiliation of Ringoven.

Dormill Union FC 0 - 1 Launey AC @ Arena of Boissieux, Boissieux
Attendance: 35,960

Friday ended with what was hoped to be a fun fight between Dormill Union and Launey, but turned out to be a slow match between the two turtling teams, neither team winding up with any points on the board all the way through the end of regulation. However, with 5 minutes of extra time added on, Launey took advantage of the few remaining minutes to finally make a good drive, though being hit with a third yellow card of the game briefly slowed them down before finally scoring at 94’, ending the slowest game of the season so far.

Stiura Hall FC 3 - 3 Eppendorf-Adelaar FC @ Adelaar Industrieën Stadium, Eppendorf
Attendance: 8,059

The close geography between Stiura Hall and Eppendorf made this local game a fan favorite this week, which was enhanced by the shootout between the teams throughout the afternoon. Stiura Hall opened up the game with a very early goal at 5’, which was responded by a goal by Eppendorf at 10’. The fighting between the two teams was surprisingly sportsmanlike, with neither side taking care to avoid getting hit with cards, which unfortunately failed as Stiura Hall was hit with the first one of the night at 15’. They responded to this unfortunate turn by scoring two minutes later, showing their ability to shake off fouls and cards easily and keep their focus. The game went on in this fashion for the rest of the night, with both teams eventually ending up tying with 3 goals each at the end of regulation.

Mala FC 0 - 3 Boissieux FC @ Three Rivers Stadium, Mala
Attendance: 2,059

A view of the Kapolder River is always a great sight, a view of the Kapolder River in Football season is just icing on the cake as Boissieux travels out to take on Mala. Even though neither team has seen remarkable success in the Union League, Mala has had a history of being relegated back to the Republics League several times, and this loss puts the idea of them returning to the second league back in their minds (and consequently ruining the idea that Mala will have a good season in some). The game began with a solid offense from Boissieux as they put constant pressure on Mala’s defensive line in the opening minutes, eventually making two consecutive goals at 23’ and 25’, quickly solidifying their lead by halftime. Mala could not keep up with their opponents and stayed on the defensive for the rest of the game, making only token attempts at scoring in the later moments of the second half before Boissieux further humiliated Mala with a 69’ goal, virtually ending the game then and there.

Vroomenstadt FC 2 - 3 Borey FC @ Lukas Monet Jr. Stadium, Borey
Attendance: 5,628

The week ends with yet another upset as rival teams Vroomenstadt and Borey take each other on in Lukas Monet Jr. Stadium. Early on, Vroomenstadt made it seem as if they were poised to take the advantage in the game, scoring a quick goal at 7’. However, the game went on and both teams fought hard to keep up with each other, resulting in a scoring spree surrounding halftime, with Borey scoring all three goals of the night in 10 minutes, throwing off the momentum of Vroomenstadt and giving the advantage to Borey, who kept it throughout the remainder of the night, ending week one in a strong position in the top 10.

KUNÊSHÊKTÊMILU SEES INFLUX OF FOREIGN RELIEF

KUNÊSHÊKTÊMILU - The Mênna see a new age of international cooperation on the horizon as aid floods in from around the region for the disaster at Kunêshêktêmilu Hydroelectric Facility. Foreign relief workers, aid money and other support have flowed into the country in the past weeks, looking to support the affected areas.

"We cannot remember the last time that foreign powers have shown our nation such unilateral support," said the 'uhitap a Tempore, Hitap Ihwalâ Luktsha, last night. "We are truly overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness our brothers and friends have shown us in these trying times."

While almost two weeks have passed since the dam at Kunêshêktêmilu was bombed, many areas downriver remain inaccessible due to flooding. Death tolls have crested at over 2500, while thousands more have been injured or displaced and yet more remain missing. A League-sanctioned relief effort has been operating out of a forward base in the savanna north of the city, with a significant camp being established for those affected.

"This is a temporary solution for a longer term problem," said League Ambassador Mipax Tishutu, "but we are thankful for all that the international community has seen to do for us."

Despite the aid, significant issues still exist in the nation as a result of the attack. The power grid continues to struggle in the wake of the loss of several turbines in the dam, although the dam has since been able to be put onto limited service. Isolationist rebels have also made threats on the League camp and on relief workers, with skirmishes breaking out in some areas. The perpetrators of the attack, Blue Yesterday, have stated that it stands as a first step on a "longer revolutionary path", although they have made few statements since the initial attack. Some experts believe that the terror group may be building up to another attack.

"We are focused on the safety and well-being of our people," said 'AT Ihwalâ. "We take threats very seriously, but at this time our priority is on aiding those affected by the disaster we have faced."

Critics of the 'AT's approach have stated that it is "overly dismissive of potential threats", especially as low caste protests have not fully ceased even as Ihwalâ has met with organization leaders.

"One might view the 'uhitap a Tempore's actions as apologetic for the terror groups that have orchestrated recent events," said Hitap Hushkin Kêt, speaking for certain militarists in the Sâtêp. "We need to show decisive and strict action if we are to quell the violent factions that currently operate in the wilds of our country."

"We have seen where promises of violence get us," Ihwalâ responded. "Let us not forget the tragedy of my predecessor's death. We must come together now as one Mênna and show those wayward members of our people that the lines that we draw between ourselves are illusory."

Vancouvia Strengthens Ties with I.D., Signs VACES Agreement, Takes on Protection of Gael-Argean Area

Vancouvia has strengthened its position in North Argus and Gael overnight with the signing of a VACES alliance with the International District. Citing growing instability and several failing states in the region, the Vancouvian Congress and the I.D. Council signed the agreement at 8:00 PM yesterday night at the Senate Building in Vesuvius at a relatively quiet ceremony.

This marks the second VACES alliance Vancouvia has undertaken, the first of which was with Noronica two years ago. Congress has stated that they are enthusiastic that they are building stronger ties with the region in which Vancouvia has the greatest "cultural and historic ties."

The majority of the Vancouvian navy has moved to the straits surrounding the I.D. Analysts have surmised that their aim is either to work to better cutoff trade with Illa Isle or be close enough for necessary operations in the I.D., Arvan, Gresswell Island, or other areas.

Vancouvian Congress Renews Claims on Sawneeak Atoll, States Willingness to "Peacefully Purchase Islands in Dispute"

Virtually right after the announcement of the VACES treaty, Congress announced that they have renewed their position that the Sawneeak islands are all legal property of Vancouvia. Congress also stated that they are willing to negotiate transfers of money or "other suitable property" in exchange for nations abandoning their "occupations" of the other Sawneeak islands.

Vancouvia currently hosts a small base and airfield on two of the smallest isles, the Pelican Isles. Congress gave no reason for the sudden confirmation of Vancouvia's policy towards Sawneeak.

FATHER FAKES DAUGHTER"S ILLNESS
Last week,16 year old Emily Wilson was rushed to the hospital after she fainted during her gym class at St.Dove High School. Paramedics said her blood pressure had dropped at an extreme rate and she was in critical condition. According to Dr.Allison at Hopeworth Medical Center, her blood tests showed that there was Nicoproxine in her system. Nicoproxine is a medication given to people with Creeping Inflammation,a virus in animals that humans can catch if bitten. The disease can spread quickly and it is a difficult illness to cure. That's why is shocked people when a lab test showed that she didn't have the disease! Her parents,Rose and David Wilson had been convincing her she was sick for 8 years. Her aunt,Juniper Wilson said that it started when she was 8.
"I was there,Emily was 8. She had been bit by a misquito at the park and her arm was hurting. My brother thought she was having muscle cramps and took her to a doctor. At first the doctor said she was fine, but then my dad said that her hands had been shaking and that her leg was swelling. She got tested for Creeping Inflammation and the test was negative, but my brother wouldn't beleive it" The father then proceeded to take her to doctor after doctor getting test after test when finally ,a test came back positive. Emily was put on medication and was put on a diet but her mother ignored the diet and increased her dose of medication. She suffered for 2 years until the doctors figured out the lab sample was switched. They took her off the Nicoproxine but she went into withdrawl so they put her back on it.
When she was 13,Emily contracted a deadly infection. It was at that time the mom decided to take action "I wasn't going to sit there and watch my daughter die so I tried to get custody but I lost the battle. I was so devastated". Emily got cured of her infection but she still spent 2 and a half years in and out of the hospital. Is there no end to Vancouvian Neo-Imperalism?

Vancouvia ties the International District to its hips, and then demands the Sawneeak Atoll are her's

Kapolder - On 15 December, the Vancouvian Congress signed the second "VACES" agreement with the International District Council, the supposed sovereign government of the island that has recently faced an occupation by Vancouvia, extending Vancouvian influence even further in the area. This in addition to recent wargames being conducted between Vancouvia and Ruios, and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that they desire more influence over Gael as the situation in Noronica further deteriorates. It would be hard to suggest that with these events being so close together, alongside the mass deployment of the Vancouvian Navy to the Mechi Sea for reasons speculated by Vancouvia News Network to "either work to better cutoff trade with Illa Isle or be close enough for necessary operations in the I.D., Arvan, Gresswell Island, or other areas", neither of which bodes well for the nations of Gael, as Arvan is still disputed with the VACES allied Noronica and the United Republics, while recently Thuzbekistan withdrew from the Gresswell Island Treaty, disputing the accepted administration of Ainslie.

Other areas, as mentioned by VNN, also includes the Sawneeak Atoll, a small archipelago just southwest of Raggiz that has been the site of eight competing claims between Noronica, the United Republics, San Montagna, Athara Magrat, Norstham, Negarakita, Masrubia, and Vancouvia. Alongside the ratification of the VACES agreement with the International District, the Vancouvian Congress additionally ratified a proclamation that "the Sawneeak islands are all legal property of Vancouvia", and that it was " willing to negotiate transfers of money or 'other suitable property' in exchange for nations abandoning their "occupations" of the other Sawneeak islands", we reached out to the other claimants' foreign ministries for a response, of which only the Dormill-Stiuraian as responded, stating:
The Vancouvian claim on the Swaneeak Atoll is no more strong than their ability to hold on to Illa Isle. The United Republics does not recognize any claim Vancouvia makes aside only the Pelican Islands, as it has been our policy to respect the other administrations of the remaining islands. If Vancouvia wants to end any dispute over the Islands, declaring that they all belong to Vancouvia is not the place to start.

The United Republics will reiterate the legitimacy of the Territory of Swaneeak Atoll and the Dulung Special Administrative Region, and will be open to a dialogue to settle any further disputes with the other claimants.

South Gael Morning Post will update this story as it develops.

Svalbardian Government Issues Statement On the I.D situation

On Sunday the Vancouvian government announced a VACES alliance with the International DIstrict. VACES are also known as Vancouvian Alliance of Cooperation, Efficiency, and Stability. These agreements are made, in Vancouvia's eyes, in order to promote peace and reduce inefficiencies in what they consider to be key areas of international relations. The only other one was made with the nation of Noronica. The pretense for this agreement was cited as growing instability and several failing states in the Gael-Argean Area.

In the recent past Vancouvia already stepped into the International District once in order to provide stability and peace in an area that had fallen out of its way years after the original treaties that created it were made. At the time it was considered a leap and a breach of agreements but was largely accepted as few other governments wanted to step in. The Vancouvian involvement in the area started to die down, especially with the situation in Illa Isle, but it seems that this was just a lull.

Late sunday evening the Svalbardian government issued a statement. While it considers Vancouvia to be a friend, it will not hesitate to ensure that regional order is kept balanced, and that the agreements that created the I.D and the League are not destroyed by Neo-Imperialism. Polar Svalbard spilled a large amount of blood in the Imperial War, and will not see that get thrown back at it. Polar Svalbard will call upon its allies in the Mesder Sea Treaty Organization in order to garner a unified response, and will be seeking mediation in the League in order to hopefully peacefully resolve this issue.

Sausages regulated, made healthier, before Parliamentary Christmas Recess

Image

As the parliamentary calendar draws to a close for the year, Parliament has decided to pass what is apparently the last piece of legislation before the Land’s legislature breaks for Christmas Recess in 3 days time.

The Sausage Act, as it has been popularly referred to as, despite the fact that the Act concerns several food, health, and safety items, is set to regulate one of Townside’s most favourite food items: the Townsider Sausage.

The Townsider Sausage, affectionately known as the “Epic Sausage”, is bought by 85% of Townsider households, for an average of 12 times per year. 25,000 tonnes of Townsider sausages are consumed annually, worth ks100 million of retail sales. It is estimated that each Townsider household spends ks30.00 per year on the national sausage, in order to consume sausages in 484,000 meals every day, or 174 million meals annually.

Sausages are twice as popular than burgers and grills in the Land of Townside. Of all the sausages consumed in the Land, 61% are eaten during dinnertime, 24% for breakfast, 14% for lunch, and 1% at other times, such as snacks. Of all the sausages consumed in Townside, 30% are eaten in the home, 24% in full service outlets, 19% in a travel and leisure environment, 16% in the workplace, and 11% in pubs.

The Townsider Sausage is obviously popular across the nation. So why has it attracted the wrath of the government’s bureaucratic regulatory urges?

For public health concerns, as asserted by the Minister of Health, who tabled the bill in the General Assembly of Parliament a few weeks ago, while labelling the national sausage as “Emulsified High-fat Offal Tubes”, or “EHFOT” for short.

“The EHFOT,” the Minister reported in Parliament “does not have enough meat in it. The average EHFOT consists of 32.5% fat, 20% water, 10% rusk, 6.5% pork rind, 5% seasoning, preservatives, and colouring, and only 26% meat, 13% of which is gristle, head meat, including ear, snout, and cheek meat, other offcuts, and mechanically recovered meat steamed off the carcass. This, Mr. Speaker, is not fit to be called our national sausage, and indeed is not fit for consumption by the people of Townside! In the name of public health, and in combat against overweightness and obesity, I plan to reform our nation’s beloved sausage into something fit to be a national icon.”

The Minister of Health then cited fears of rising national BMIs, overweight prevalence and obesity rates. For example, since the end of the Great Christmas Island War in 2012, the nation’s average BMI has increased from 22.6 to 23.7 (including a BMI of 24.3 for men and 23.2 for women). Meanwhile, 1.8% more people are found to be obese since 2012, for an overall obesity rate of 6.1%. In Townside, women have a higher chance of being obese than men, with 6.3% of Townsider women being obese and only 5.8% of Townsider men being obese.

Under plans spearheaded by the Minister of Health to combat this unforgivable rise in obesity, the previously mentioned sausage composition will remain legal and will continue to exist, but manufacturers will be legally compelled to label those sausages as “Economy Sausages”. Reports suggested that the Minister initially wanted those sausages to be labelled as “Emulsified High-Fat Offal Tubes”, but the moderate elements within the Conservative Party campaigned against such a name, leading to the adoption of the name “Economy Sausages” instead.

However, aware that such regulations may adversely affect the prices of sausages, which would hit poorest households the most, the Minister of Health, in consultation with the Minister of Environment, has agreed to create three additional classes of sausages in addition to the Economy Sausage. These three other classes include the Standard Sausage, the legally defined Townsider National Sausage, and the Low-fat Sausage.

Under the new sausage regime, a sausage can only be labelled as a Standard Sausage if it consists of at least 32% meat, including no more than 16% offal, and no more than 26.5% fat and 6.5% pork rind.

Meanwhile, the nationally beloved Townsider Sausage will be making a comeback with legal support this time, as a sausage can only be labelled as the national sausage if it consists of at least 42% meat, including no more than 21% offal, and no more than 16.5% fat and no more than 6.5% pork rind.

And as a personal pet project of the Minister of Health himself, a fourth category of Low-fat Sausages was created for sausages with no more than 5% fat and 5% pork rind, and no less than 55% meat, including no more than 27.5% offal.

Reaction

In response to the successful vote in Parliament approving the government’s measures regarding the sausage, Prime Minister Benjamin Chancellor declared that it was clear that his Conservative government was committed to public health, and takes the lives and longevity of Townsider citizens seriously.

However, not everyone shared the Prime Minister’s positivity. The Liberal Leader of the Opposition stated that while he applauded the Conservative government for claiming to take public health matters seriously, he did not feel the Minister of Health has gone far enough, and stated confidently that a Liberal Minister of Health would have “done more”. The Leader of the Opposition, however, did not indicate what more a Liberal Minister of Health would have done.

Criticism also came from the National Party, who commissioned a study showing that the regulations would disrupt the Townsider sausage market. With the new regulations, the National Party claimed only 30% of the sausage market would be classified as the National Sausage, with 60% being classified as Standard, 5% as Low-fat, and 5% as Economy. With these statistics, the National Party launched an attack on the Conservative Party for being “unpatriotic” and destroying a treasured national icon in the Townsider Sausage. More extreme elements of the National Party has accused the government of kowtowing to globalist propaganda and called on the Prime Minister to resign “in shame” for betraying the country.

Meanwhile, the Religious Party was disappointed that the government did not directly consult the Church of Townside before proceeding with the drafting of the Bill, fearing that the Bill “might not abide closely enough to the will of God”.

Back on the left-wing benches, the Socialist Party was dismayed at the freedom given to the market to fashion different types of sausages “for different classes of people”. They labelled the new sausage categories as “bourgeois”, and insisted a Socialist government would create a single national sausage standard, and abolish differential prices on sausages.

The Green Party was less concerned about the effects the measures would have on the health of the citizenry, and more upset with the fact that the government did not officially recognise and give strength to a category for “Vegetarian Sausages”, which the Green Party insisted would recognise the plight and torment suffered by animals, especially pigs and chickens, in the making of the sausages.

Finally, the Women and Minorities Party attacked the government for what they perceived as the government’s legal backing for pork, which the Party said is offensive to Townside’s Muslim minority community, and insisted pork ought to be banned to respect the religious freedoms of “tens of thousands of Townsider Muslims”. Other elements of the Women and Minorities Party attacked the Minister of Health for being a white man, saying it was characteristic for “his kind” to be telling others what to do. They also accused the Minister of fat shaming and mansplaining.

Royal assent

The Grand Council of Parliament approved the Bill without amendments, and the Bill made its way to the Grand Princes and the Privy Council. In the Privy Council, the government was accused by the other committees of the Privy Council, most notably including the Judicial Committee, of political manoeuvers, insisting the bill was a waste of Parliament’s time and resources, and was far less important than other more pressing issues that Parliament could legislate on. The Judicial Committee pointed out that the measures contained in the bill were within the powers and abilities of several government agencies. However, finding that the Bill was not harmful, and was not grossly illegal or unconstitutional, the majority of the Privy Council advised the Grand Princes to give their royal assent to make the bill law. The Grand Princes are set to grant their royal assent not after the 20th of December, which would forever change the face of Townside’s beloved national sausage.

Aruian Senate Opposition leaders slam the presidents recent tweet.

Earlier today President Del'falco tweeted after a meeting with the coalition members over heavy Vancouvia presence in Gael region. Leading to a tweet where he called Vancouvias foreign policies as self-loving, volatile and invasive. He accused Vancouvia of attempting to influence power in Gael, in response the opposition accused Del'falco of reckless behavior. "president Del'falco expresses xenophobic behavior we Aruians have left behind years ago, the Vancouvian policies are questionable but misuse of the diplomatic protocol is unheard of."
In response head of the coalition Romolo Tre'Mon'ta has stated that the opposition holds poor judgement over general interest of the Gael nations where Vancouvia is trying to add gun powder to an already problematic situation.

The first weeks of the summit came to a close with positive views on Aruias side, many of the refugees have not stayed and those that don't express positive service from social service on behalf of AIRA. Head of the summit Dr Marina Be'selle stated that she believes that in short time they will find a solution that will benefit Orsandia as well and may help Orsandia reconstruct its economic infrastructure.

Why we hate the Thuzbeks
But can tolerate the Ahnslens

Image
What the patriarchy have created in Thuzbekistan

Image
Caran Melarne
International District Correspondent

It's only been days since our last major uncovering of the male dominance which has caused our society to crumble. However, the Thuzbeks have been so toxic it is worth commenting on the situation. The patriarchy continues its devestating course in Thuzbekistan after briefly destabilising Gael. The patriarchy in the nation has gotten so bad that following a brief TWItter war with our organisation where they were so toxic and ignorant, we had to visit a decontaination facility in the Occupied Territories of The Western Isles in order to be allowed back into our offices.

So, let me tell you what the past few days have been like.

I was chilling on Gresswell Island, speaking to some super awesome refugees about how golden girl Keira Marshall was letting in heaps of oppressed people. More on that later. I came back to the Occupied Territories and BAM an alert on my phone about Gresswell Island. One of my side hustles was to ignore my notifications more, but given this was Gresswell Island I was totally into reading it.

I saw that those racist homophobes had laid a totes evil claim over Gresswell Island. All these refugees could be in trouble now and this toxic masculinity will spread further. Thankfully for now there is #equality in Gresswell Island. It does not share the same micro-oppression of other nations, chief of all Thuzbekistan whose Government are a masculine oligarchy that brutally oppress women and purge their lands of marginalised groups.

#I'mWithGresswell has been trending amidst this situation and I can totally relate to this cause.

And it's not just me. Everyone at HerWorld is behind the island which is one of the few places where the patriarchy has been eliminated. Congratulations to them for that. Of course, Ainslie totally hasn't quite reached these levels but we are soooo ready for them to. The females are rising up in Ainslie and I'm confident that in time the nation's low levels of patriarchy will eventually be removed. Still, it remains that old men run the biggest nations and I'm totally not with that. There's hardly any diversity in the Thuzbek Government and that makes them totally worse than the Ahnslen one.

So, girls, let's make sure the Thuzbeks don't take over Greswell - let's unite and fight the patriarchy and it's micro-oppression! Discrimination can happen in many ways but it's totes obvious in Thuzbekistan and we must fight the overt before we can destroy the covert.

    In other news:
  • How all men are racist
  • What insects tell us about the natural, barbaric dominance of the patriarchy
  • How keyboard warriors are saving the Isles
  • How if women build Mennan dams, they would never break
  • Explainer: Trade deals are designed to perpetuate toxic masculinity

Athara Magarat set to ban international marriages for its men from January

Image
Ngodup and Tara on their marriage

NEW LIBANG

Ngodup (name changed), a 27 year old restaurant owner and chef from Helambu, married the love of his life in haste after the Athara Magarati government announced that it was considering a ban on international marriage for its men. His newly wed wife, Tara (also name changed), is an Avoman from Tashvo Division of Torom and Ngodup announced that he is moving to Tara's country before the proposed law passes.

"There is no opportunity for me here. My business failed in Helambu. It will be a fresh start in Torom where traditional Khas-Kirati cuisines are unique and sought after." Ngodup gives his reasoning for moving to a new country. When asked if he married Tara solely for his business, he says that it was out of love. "She has a job at the mayor's office in her city. She demanded that if I loved her, I would have to move to her place. We maintained this long-distance relationship and I was not sure if I even loved her for I never answered her. When my government announced that it is set to ban international marriages for men, I realized how much I loved her and we got married. I am now divinely gifted with a wonderful wife and a fresh start for my new job."

However, this is exactly what led to the Athara Magarati government considering the ban on international marriages for men from January 2019 according to proponents of the government. According to statistics, about 40% of Athara Magaratis are male and in 2017 alone, 65% of Athara Magarati men were married to women from foreign nations. Out of these men with foreign wives, almost 80% of them left Athara Magarat to join their spouse's nation; a problematic scenario for one of the few nations in the Isles with an ever declining birth rate and an ever declining population.

The Bara Magarat region reached its peak population of 11 million in the 19th Century under the then Khas-Kirat Empire (a confederation of 12 hangates; hence the term Bara Magarat as in "12 hangates"). Almost 40% of the Khas-Kirat Empire were killed in battle, taken prisoners of war to never return or immigrated to other nations during and after the devastating Great Argus Wars. The population gradually recovered to around 9 million in 1940s; just when the Imperial War erupted. During and in the aftermath of the Imperial War, almost 2 million people of the Magarat region were killed, imprisoned or mostly displaced. In the aftermath of the 30th Parallel War that took place between 1991 to 1994 when communist Magaratis fought against San Montagna and its capitalist allies, almost a million Chathaese, Jaring Santhals and other southern Khas-Kirati populations became San Montagnan citizens as the latter added Chatha and Jaring (now called Terra-Nuova) as its new provinces. Historians still debate the actual casualty numbers of the 30th Imperial War but what is not uncontroversial is the fact that the Magarati population has been ever declining since then. The Magarati population today stands at 5.5 million; half of what it used to be in the 19th Century.

In the late 90s, the Magarati government promoted international marriages for its men with the hopes of increasing its population. However, this caused the reverse effect as many Magarati men started immigrating to the countries of their new spouses in large numbers. This is blamed for the continuing trend of women outnumbering men in the nation. Due to the lack of available suitable partners, many women started doing international marriages as well. Proponents of this proposed ban state that making international marriages illegal for Magarati men will ensure availability of suitable partners for domestic marriage and automatically decrease the trend of Magarati women seeking foreign husbands as well.

Identity is another factor for this ban as most children born of international marriages tend to ignore their Magarati heritage due to various factors. Many traditionalists blame the increase of Catholicism and Islam on international marriages; completely ignoring other issues at play. Children born of international marriages also stated that Magarati (mainly Khas-Kirati and Argean Ipachi) cultures, languages and religions were hard to follow and difficult to understand. Even after growing into adults, they will be able to only grasp a few words or be familiar wth just a few customs. Traditionally, the law of the Chuli mountains and Magarati steppes demanded men to follow his wife's culture and convert to her religion. This practice gave birth to the region's syncretic Munist path while also having various prominent Khas-Kirati hangs and commanders go native just a generation later in areas they invaded. Now, traditionalists argue that the same practice is gradually destroying Magarati identity and demand the ban on international marriages.

Despite its best efforts, the Athara Magarati government has not been able to attract immigrants to the country aside from refugees now and then. Most renowned Magarati companies like Kodo have branches in foreign nations; making it not necessary at all for foreign workers of Kodo to emigrate to Athara Magarat. Kodo's plants in Samudera and Menna Shuli rely on cheap labor from these countries without the workers ever having to emigrate to New Libang or Myagdi Island. As most other nations in the Isles are as much developed as Athara Magarat, foreigners are not particularly interested to emigrate to the central Argus nation.

"This has also do with the fact misconceptions still exist. Foreign media still often depicts our nation as a Third World country where people are nomadic, always angry, speak gibberish language and overtly communist." Binita Sinjali, a film maker from New Libang, says. She added that foreigners often do not know that Nyssic (one of the most common languages in the Isles) is the official language of Athara Magarat or that the central Argus nation is a mixed economy with only the political parties having communist names or that Myagdi Island was ranked the 2nd in the best city to live in the entire Isles by an Ahnslen think-tank or that Athara Magaratis have the highest per capita income in the entire Isles with 36,000 or the ambitious plan for the entirety federation of hangates will be powered by nuclear energy by 2020 or that despite not having its own space-flight capabilities, the nation is a leader in the Isles space programs and so on.

Various groups opposed to the proposed ban on international marriages for men protested in front of government buildings all across the nation and clashed with counter-protesters supporting the proposed law. "This is sexist!" shouted Bikram, a 19 year old law student. "My life! My choice! My wife!" Another protester, 30 year old Samduhang, called the proposed law fascist and that the international marriage ban should apply to women as well.

Several citizens stated that the government should not outright ban international marriages for men but provide several benefits to both Magarati men and women who can convince their partners to live and raise a family in Athara Magarat. It remains to be seen whether or not the Jrm Hangma administration will pass the proposed bill and how Athara Magaratis will react to it in coming days.

Military travel in International District waters restricted except for Magarati and Vancouvian vessels

Image
Magarati flagship White Tigress

NEW LIBANG

After the Vancouvian Congress announced the signing of a VACES alliance with the International District in December 16th, the Isles was engulfed in renewed tension. The Dormill-Stiuraian government and President Del'falco of Aruia condemned the Vancouvian "neo-imperialism" while the Svalbardian government announced on the 17th that they would bring in their Mesder Sea Treaty Organisation (MSTO) allies. Now, the Jrm Hangma administration of Athara Magarat, has officially sided with the Vancouvian Congress as southwestern Mechi Sea (water body connected to Argean Sea in north and Gatadpatigan Sea in south and surrounded by the nations of Agadar, Alteran Republics, Athara Magarat, Keipan, Michigonia and the International District) and northwestern Gatadpatigan Sea (water body connected to Mechi Sea in north and Waragatan Sea in southeast and surrounded by the nations of Athara Magarat, Torom, San Montagna and the International District) has been declared off-limits by the Athara Magarati navy for all military vessels save those sporting Magarati or Vancouvian naval flags.

Image
Athara Magarat navy has deployed its "Half-Platoon Boat 22 swarms" in both Mechi Sea and Gatadpatigan Sea.

The Snow Lion-class destroyer White Tigress, flagship of the Magarati navy, has been deployed to the Gatadpatigan Sea with the Naga-class missile boat Palpa, Blue Karnali and Seto Dharti plus a 100 Half-Platoon Boat 22s. Similarly, another swarm of 100 Half-Platoon Boat 22s have been reported to be covering the southern Mechi Sea and awaiting the arrival of the three Àdnachd-class multirole frigates Dragon Princess, Promise of Humanity and Lost Children of War. These three vessels had seen service in the recent conflict in Charbagnia and are en route to the Argean Sea to enter Port Tambar in Hangate of Arun Valley that touches southern Mechi Sea. Powered by two 780 hp engines, the landing craft has a maximum speed of 42 kt and an economical speed of 30 kt. It can cruise over a distance of 400 miles (643 km) and endure for up to 24 hours. Military analysts says that the presence of the Half-Platoon Boat 22 swarms will likely slow the movements of civilian vessels from other nations as well and make navigation a nightmare for intended targets.

"Vancouvia is our biggest ally on the war against SHOCK. We are ready to do whatever to support them." Jrm Hangma stated to the media and declined to make any further comments. Political analysts say that this goes beyond just the war against SHOCK.

Image
The shaded region in the map is now off-limits except for Vancouvian and Magarati vessels.

A government spokesman, requesting anonymity, said that the Jrm Hangma administration is officially recognizing "Illa Isle as part of Vancouvia just as Chatha and Jaring (Terra-Nuova) and Unovi are Magarati territories occupied by foreign powers". He also said that the Magarati government was planning of creating another unit like the Deathstalkers; who are an elite counter-terrorist group trained by the Vancouvian Special Forces (VSF). It has been reported that Athara Magarat may be granting another military base to the VSF in the continuing war against SHOCK.

The government official further stated that an Argus-centric railway project led by the Vancouvians was in consideration and the oil found in Dura Hangate (Magarati overseas territory in Sawneeak Atoll) will be exclusively sold to the Vancouvia. "Our nation will be fully run by nuclear energy in 2020 thanks three more nuclear power plants being constructed by Oster Consortium for Energy Solutions (OCES). Hence the oil found in Dura Hangate is better to be sold to nations that need it than us."

He however disputed the rumors that Jrm Hangma administration was considering selling Dura Island and Tandran to the Vancouvian Pelican Islands. "Dura Hangate has been populated by our citizens and is a constituent hangate of our nation. Furthermore, our scientists are studying the unique wildlife there and studying the stars from the powerful telescopes in observatories there. Unlike other claimants, we have a scientific interest and two islands of Dura and Tandran are forever Dura Hangate; as in a constituent state of Athara Magarat. Hence it will not be sold to anyone."

THE HADAST TRUTH

Welcome everyone, this is Bomilcar, son of Godaz, reporting from the Central Palace in Hadast, here the Mait and the Ham Ukkim have assembled to hear the mid-winter speech of the Sar Sarani, prior to the break for the Mid-winter Festivals. Normally the main hall is packed, but with increased security in remembrance to the bombing of the Curia in Alteran Republics. I can see the entire squadron of the Cent-guards have been called out and no one has been allowed in the building without a through search. Except for news reporters from domestic and foreign services the loft is empty.
Everyone is rising now as Sar Harold is being escorted to the podium by two officers of the Cent-guards. There has been a round of applauds as the Sar Sarani takes his place. Quite has now rested upon the room as the Sar Sarani begins his speech:

Nobles, gentlemen and visitors, once again we look forward to the coming Mid-winter festivities and I hope all of you have a pleasant break with your families. Before we go there are a number of events that have taken place in the last couple of weeks that need attention.
First, we will discuss what is happening in our northern neighbor of Oturia. The Oturians in a matter of week have gone from a democracy, to a dictatorship to a monarchy. There are concerns that our ancient enemy of Terrake will once again become a threat, we do not feel this will be so, but to let the Oturians know that we are ever vigilant, the Frontier Force and the Canal Defense Force have ended furloughs and recalled troops to the colors. We do not wish for a misunderstanding with the new government of Oturia and to ensure this the Muntalku Durani (Chancellor of State) ans his staff are in close contact with the Royal Council.
Next we come to our neighbors across the Bay, the Menna face a major disaster with the damage to the Kuneshettemilu Dam, the flooding below the dam has caused numerous deaths and massive destruction. Most nations of the isles have come to the aid of the Menna, and the Rab Khanam (High Priest), has called upon Wellsia to also provide aid. The Temple has already set aside funds to assist the the various groups and governments already involved and has approached the government of Menna Shuli , to see if they need more assistance. He ask for donations to the Temple for this worthy cause. Healers, Leeches and Apothecaries are also be assembled by the Temple if needed and craftmen of all professions are be assembled as well.
Now we come to the nation of Thuzbekistan. While the distance between our two realms is great, the trade with the sub-continent pf Gael is vital and the disruptions that have befallen that region are many. Most of these have been through the manipulations of Thuzbekistan. First their was the war in Orsandia, with them give overt and covert aid to the rebels, now there is the truth of their missile program, and lastly their claims on land that have been Ainsle for over 50 years. The question is, now that the war is over, do these other two events warrant continued sanctions, we and the Miat, believe that this is not so, starting today all sanctions against Thuzbekistan are lifted. Due to the Orsandian Civil War, much trade has been disrupted and many of the nations of Gael are facing financial difficulties. To help out increase trade and to shorten routes between the Mesder and Gael, all fees for use of the Canal are lifted until farther notice. The Rab Mahsabim (Chief Treasurer) will keep us informed to the finances of the realm.
With the cowardly attack on the Curia of the Alteran Republics in Nova Lantea, we have offered any assistance that may be needed. We have already extended our hand in friendship and support to the new Strategos, Keith Ryansan.
More threatening is the actions of the government of Noronica and their treatment of the Overlord. We take personal affront to these actions remembering our own aunt, Overlady Victoria being forced to resign her title. We have sent a letter to Prime Minister McIntosh, that his actions are reprehensible and are looked upon by us with extreme displeasure. That he needs to remember that Overlord Titus Alexander is his sovereign and deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Continuous actions, such as the cancellation of the Remembrance Day celebrations, will find disfavor with the Crown and people of Wellsia.
Last and this could be a greater threat then the Orsandian War, at disrupting the peace of the Gael region and more important the vital waterways that run between Argus and Gael, is the actions of Vancouvia, Athra Magarati, and possibly Ruios. The VACES allaince imposed on the week leadership of the I.D. and claims on Sawneeak Atoll show an imperial tendency by Vancouvia. Whereas we have no trouble with Vancouvia extending their area of control, the disruption of trade through the Straits is unacceptable. We have now learned that Athra Magarati has thrown it's support behind Vancouvia and both have dispatched major naval units to the Straits. Athra Magarati has even declared no sailing zones in the area. What other nations do, we can not tale, but Wellsia feels that its disapproval of these actions must be known. As of today, with the relative peace int he Mesder, the Carrier Group assigned to the Western Fleet is passing through the Canal and will be joined by other ships to form a possible Northern Fleet, this force will form up on the island and be prepared for future operations. At present the third class cruiser, the IWS Terrible is to sail to the south end of the straits to assist if required in keeping the straits opened to all peaceful shipping.
Lastly we do send our condolences to the government and people of Roendavar for the loss of King Vladimir IV. He will be missed.

We must look forward to the future and let us hope that those things which prevent us from reaching our full potential as a person, a people, a nation are burned away on Mid-winter night. May the Light grow in each of us as it will in the world as the days once again lengthen. I now call upon the Rab Khanam to lead us in closing prayer and blessings on all.

There you have it, the Sar Sarani has made his plans known to the Mial, the Ham Ukkim, the people of Wellsia, and the other nations of the Isles. We hope that his actions are directed by Truth and Right and that Wellsia will continue to prosper.

Southern Garrison Strengthened

Due to vague statments by the Wellsian ambassador the royal council has voted to send 30,000 additional troops to join the 12,000 troops garrisoned near the Wellsian border.
Though Prime Minister Sebastian Hollan has stated that it is for training purposes and defensive procedure only.

Some think it's just to antagonize the Wellsian government and others want to invade.
Alex Vas claims "That canal is rightfully Oturian it's people are ethnically Oturian"

Imperial Fire

The Imperial Council Building in Jórvík was attacked via arson by known Communist and alleged Crimson Scar, Marcus Vinci. It has caused great debate among our party leaders as to how we will manage this. Although no injuries or deaths have been reported, the fire dealt considerable damage to the main debating chamber and minor damage to the entrance room. The fire started roughly around 18:37 and was extinguished around 19:23. The people are calling for a public execution, something that hasn't been done in a hundred years, while the government hasent made a statement as to what will be done. Chancellor König has drafted a document describing what he believes will solve the issue, he will be presenting it directly to the King later tonight.

This is what the PLF chairman Jakob Hardin had to say,

I can't beleive the people of Pretoria actually think we would sponsor an attack on our beloved Council. Beleive me when I say this, we did NOT send Marcus to attack the Council. We have no reason or motive to do such a thing. The Scars? I'm almost positive they did it. They have tons of reason to do it. Hell they hate the government, they have a reason, a motive, a cause. We don't.

This has been a very tragic event in what seems to a very rough time for Pretoria. I just hope we soon see the light at the end of the tunnel.
That is all, from Greater Pretoria News, with your host, Sara Huber.

Military blockade in southwestern Mechi Sea lifted; but more Magarati ships sent to Gatadpatigan Sea

Image
Updated map of the ongoing military blockade imposed by Athara Magarat

NEW LIBANG

After the Magarati navy imposed military blockade on southwestern Mechi Sea and northwestern Gatadpatigan Sea in December 18th, the Jrm Hangma administration was met with heavy international criticism. Now, her government has lifted the military blockade of Mechi Sea and announced that Magarati ships will "not be entering Toroman side of the Gatadpatigan Sea". On the other hand, more Magarati vessels are expected to be sent to northwestern Gatadpatigan Sea and observers stated that the Magarati navy's presence was the most at the narrow San Montagnan coastline.

"While previous governments such as the Armaja Hang administration and the Paija Hang administration considered Chatha and Jaring as hangates lost the San Montagnans in the 30th Paralled War (1991-1994) during the peace treaty; the current Jrm Hangma administration considers those to be Magarati territories illegally occupied by the San Montagnans. She has also made statements calling for Unovi (a city-state inside the Second Tamsaling Hangate in southeastern Athara Magarat but under control of Razzgriz) to be absorbed into the federation of hangates through "diplomacy or blood". As such, in revised Magarati maps produced after 2016, one can see Unovi, Chatha and Jaring (called Terra-Nuova by San Montagnans) within Magarati borders." Political analyst William McNair said. "It is a show of force despite whatever the Jrm Hangma administration says. The Magaratis are doing this to undermine San Montagna and Razzgriz."

When asked why the military blockade of southwestern Mechi Sea was lifted, a government official requesting anonymity said, "Despite technically not blocking the passage through the Central Canal, commercial vessels seemed to be at unease and by our mere presence there, other nations accused us of blockading Central Canal; hence we decided it was better to withdraw from Mechi Sea."

The government official echoed the statement by Vec Hangma, the Magarati delegate to the International District and the League, that "Magarati navy will not enter Toroman part of the Gatadpatigan Sea" and that "Toroman fishermen are free to sail anywhere they want in the entire Gatadpatigan Sea".

"Out of five political entities that have maritime borders at the Gatadpatigan Sea, which are, Athara Magarat and International District in northwestern Gatadpatigan Sea, Razzgriz through the city-state of Unovi, San Montagna through territorial gains in Jaring (Terra-Nuova) after the 30th Parallel War and Torom in southeastern Gatadpatigan Sea; the former two have agreed that Vancouvian navy are to be allowed to sail into this sea for the International District relies on Vancouvian military for her defense." The government official further stated.

Jrm Hangma defended the continuing military blockade in northwestern Gatadpatigan Sea as "marine life conservation" to domestic opposition while ambassador Vec Hangma is said to have stated something along the lines at the League. "The endangered Sea Cat, Gatadpatigan Seadragon which foreign vessels come to hunt and most importantly, the Jellari's whales, will be protected by this military blockade. If say, an international armada of several fleets from powerful nations with powerful ships possessing powerful sonar is to pass through the Gatadpatigan Sea, the marine life there is even more endangered and the civilian life of Athara Magaratis, International Districters and Toromans will be hampered. While it is true that our ships also utilize sonar, Athara Magarati and Toroman ships are fewer in number and like we stated earlier, the International District is dependent on Vancouvian military for her defense."

NEW LIBANG

Tomorrow on the 20th December, the team from New Forest, who finished 2nd in the 2018 Dragon Division, will be taking on Marubhumi Lizards who were in 4th position at the league for the 2018 Dragon Cup. In 2016 Dragon Division (also known as the Magarati League outside of Athara Magarat), the first ever season of the Magarati premier league, then 4th positioned Ipachi United took the first ever Dragon Cup by a 4 - 1 win over New Libang. And then in 2017, then 2nd placed Dhunche Bazaar struck 2 -1 past Ghan Pokhara to clinch the second Dragon Cup. Now, fans are excitedly waiting to see which team will take the third Dragon Cup.

The 2018 season of Dragon Division had been anything but boring. FC Khumbuwan, who had been leading the league halfway through the season so much that almost all Athara Magarati national players in 2018 IFAF Western Isles Cup were from this team, were overtaken by Western Chatha and New Forest with their new signings from the Isles Cup. Midfield maestro Hildibjørn Heinason, from the Norstham national team that won 2017 IFAF Western Isles Cup and were runners-up in the 2018 one, proved to be crucial in Western Chatha's successive runs while Martin Ehtebren of Ostehaar made the New Forest defense rock solid. Chathaese San Montagnan defender Samir Sathak also played crucial role in helping his team Western Chatha to defend their league title. This made Western Chatha the team with most most league titles (2017 and 2018 seasons).

On the other hand, Sathak's fellow Chathaese San Montagnan striker Khiman Suhang of FC Khumbuwan, winner of 2018 MSFC Solidarity Cup Golden Boot, found himself out of touch as the golden boy missed several scoring opportunities through the season. However, Khiman Suhang was the only one to blame for FC Khumbuwan's lackluster performance in the latter stages of the season. His Athara Magarati cousin Firoz Suhang, whose lack of aggression for goals was much criticized as the reason behind Athara Magarat's early exit from the 2018 IFAF Western Isles Cup, found that the curse still haunted him as he scored only four goals in the entire 2018 Dragon Division season.

While Western Chatha, New Forest and several other teams made impressive runs that made fans go wild, some teams made their fans wonder if it was the same team they had known. Chuli Leopards, league 1st in the first ever Dragon Division season in 2016, are now relegated to Tiger Division (also known as Magarati A-Division). Joining them in the relegation are Dura Hangate (Magarati overseas territory in the disputed Sawneeak Atoll) team Tandran Bulbuls, who had joined the 16-team league in 2017 and made numerous fans through their run and spectacular games such as the 5 - 0 drubbing of much-fancied FC Khumbuwan were too late into the season and too few to save them.

The 2018 Dragon Cup, as always, began after the top eight teams in the league had been decided. League 1st Western Chatha thrashed 2017 Dragon Cup runners-up Ghan Pokhara with a 4 - 1 score in the first quarterfinals match. 4th placed Marubhumi Lizards and 3rd placed FC Khumbuwan beat 5th placed Eastern Chatha and 6th placed Sinja City respectively with a 3 - 2 score. And in the last quarterfinals match, New Forest eased 2 - 1 past Arun Valley.

In the semifinals games, Marubhumi Lizards beat another Chathese team, time time Western Chatha, with 3 - 2 score. Due to the political tensions between Marubhumi Hangate and the two Chatha hangates, the match was strictly monitored by Armed Police Force. While the Eastern Chatha versus Marubhumi Lizards had ended peacefully, gang fights erupted in Su Stadium between fans of two teams after Marubhumi Lizards defeated Western Chathaese side. Some Western Chathaese fans even attacked Marubhumi Lizards players after the match while Marubhumi fans vandalized the bus supposed to transport Western Chathaese players in retaliation. At least two dozen people were arrested while three Marubhumi Lizards players (Athara Magaratis midfielder Rabin Dangaura and defender Kamal Sonha and Ahnslen defender Nicholas Lewen) were hospitalized.

Meanwhile, in the other much more relatively peaceful semifinals game, New Forest eased past FC Khumbuwan with a 3 - 1 score. Due to the injuries suffered by three of his crucial players, Head Coach Aita Rana Tharu of Marubhumi Lizards is expected to start with a new line-up. Sports analysts predict this line-up to be -

Marubhumi Lizards (4-3-2-1): Goalkeeper Captain Dipesh Pahalman (Athara Magarat); Defenders Shakti Kathoriya (Athara Magarat), Jørundur Lamhauge (Norstham), Kesera Lanah (Ainslie) and Creep Western (Athara Magarat); Midfielders James Hampton (Michigonia), Maikel Garuda (Samudera) and Jan Tirhang (Kho Panha); and Forwards Dev Man Paschuhan (Athara Magarat), Arnold Rautar (Athara Magarat) and Augustin Renou (Noronica)

New Forest (3-5-2): Goalkeeper Akash Tamrakar (Athara Magarat); Defenders Neil Brothaigh (Athara Magarat), Rory McGuaire (Noronica) and Martin Ehtebren (Ostehaar); Midfielders Captain Gyan Bajracharya (Athara Magarat), Sean McFlouchton (Noronica), Arnold MacCain (Athara Magarat), Prem Karmacharya (Athara Magarat) and Sinar Kurai (Ainslie); and Forwards Suprapto (Samudera) and Torbjørn Ryberg (Norstham)

STORY:King Simen Gives Speech on Vancouvian Issue
By Audin Edland

These days have been quite the roller coaster, seeing such imperialist desires from a nation in this day and age, it has shocked many around the globe. If you are unaware to this news it has been reported that Vancouvia has had major military presence in I.D and has done what can only be described as occupation, this is quite the shocker, nobody would expect a place of such neutrality to be taken by such imperialist means, it goes to show that not much has been learned from the ages of old. Many around the nation had felt what we have not felt for quite a long time as one, fear, while not in direct fire it will be significant to geo-politics and it would seem Vancouvia will not be backing down from their imperial desires.

When this news came the king was immediately notified and briefed, he was said to be in a lot of shock and rightfully so. He posted on his accounts on the web that he would be holding a speech at 8AM just a day or two after the blatant attack on I.D, soon many gathered to the Governmental hall in preparation. Soon the nation was and still is in a frenzy over what happened in a sea far away.

It was said that an hour before.the speech started that no street was empty in the capital, since the king rarely comes out of his palace, buzzing.with uncommon activity. It is said that king Simen was spotted an hour before the speech talking with the Royal Guard on protection since this was thought to be a controversial speech to him. Soon all went in the hall and the people who could not enter were on radios and television all around the nation on the Royal Broadcasting Network, now all eyes were on our king, these are the words that had followed:

“Hello my fellow Varikans, I wish what I had to say was just a progress report or just some general news, however you and everyone around you knows why we are here today, to discuss the Vancouvian issue at stake. Today I was briefed on the situation and was struck with shock like you were that such a neutral place was occupied. I am just as angry as you are, however let us remember that diplomacy and negotiation is what we all want. I am so sorry that this was not said at an earlier date, I was at my son's birthday party when this has happened, quite a coincidence I would say. I will now inform you of what my thoughts are on the matter and what my plans are to my fellow Varikans.

I must first point out that we will not be closing our borders to the Vancouvians at this time, since stable relations must be held, however if this situation continues the status might change. We have issued two major travel advisories to our people, one being in the I.D, being a level five, if you somehow get there we will not be able to get you back to our national borders unless you come by yourself since the military presence makes it too dangerous. Another advisory has been issued for Vancouvia and is a level 4, meaning a proper will and legal documentation must be signed before travel to that region. I hope you.understand that this is needed because otherwise people.could be hurt without our knowledge since we do not have ties with Vancouvia. Lastly in terms of travel we will be redirecting trade routes to be above the I.D in order to avoid military presence.

As for our next course of action, we will issue our condemnation of this action, while not international it is a condemnation from our own nation and one condemnation it shall be. We also will be blocking trade to and from Vancouvia, since it is obvious this would happen anyway because of our speech against them. Lastly in our next actions.is a mobilization of the Royal Guard and Navy to patrol our borders both in land and sea in order to make sure any vessels are kept out of our area unless allowed by confirmation. We urge the nations around us to do the same, since most of us want to keep I.D as neutral as possible.

We know these are trying times, with the possible rebirth of imperialism, but we must keep what trait separates us from those stubborn imperials, determination. We must keep on being determined, be determined to get a better future, be determined to save neutrality, be determined to starve evil of its clutches. Vancouvians, if you are watching this on international media, please stop this, nobody is fooled by your facade for peace, we can all see past your masks. Thank you for your time Varikans and Non-Varikans, God bless Varika and God bless The Isles.” -King Sevin

We at the Varikan times know this is not what we wanted to happen, peace is better for all, even the ones disrupting it. Stay safe, stay strong and stay determined. God Bless Varika!

STORY:Lesser Gura Mines Project
By Hervin Edland

The project that has been in planning for years is now finally starting after an uphill battle with IPSV (Indigenous Protection Service of Varika), this project was only blocked by one order which has now been repealed. The order in question is #IPSV G1, an order that prevented mining in tribal communities in Northern Varika, however after much debate this has now been repealed, allowing the LGM to start work. This will certainly bring much debate from IPSV since they are very much disappointed im the vote, however no official statement has been given due to their leader quitting only months of service. The IPSV is now looking for a leader, it is unknown how long it will take for them to find the perfect one for the job.

The LGM will be a mine that starts at Gura North, a peak in northern Gura and extend to Costal Gura in southern Varika. This project will take much time to finish, however in the meantime the resources it will bring will pay for itself. Tomorrow the workforce will be up for hire in the region, allowing for a decent wage, a wage uncommon to many. The job is said to be dangerous since rockfall and blizzard is common there, but could it be all that bad, time will have to tell.

The natives that once lived there are now ordered to move to a community made in advance for them, the Native Regional Zone in north-eastern Varika, a place known for being dry and very cold. The plot is the size of a small city, however since the population is small it should be fine according to the government. Now it is time to strike the earth!

Abad partially bans diesel vehicles

Image

Heavy traffic on Aaron Street in downtown Abad

Today, a federal court in Abad ordered older diesel cars banned in the city, the first such ban to be enacted in Halacha. The ban comes after months of petitioning by enviromentalist groups in the city.
"Pollution and global warming is becoming increasingly commonplace," says a statement released by the port. "If we do not do something about pollution in Abad, it could cause a devastating toll to both our health and our country's national beauty. Because of this, we have decided to take action."
This ban comes just two months after Berlin had banned vehicles in certain parts of the city that met Euro 5 or lower emissions standards.
Abad has the highest level of pollution in the whole country of Halacha. The diesel ban is expected to cut back a significant amount of pollution in the city.
"I'm grateful for this ban," says Israel Baer. "Sometimes, downtown, the air will be full of smog. All you can smell is diesel, and it's hard for me to breathe."
The capital city of Haran and other large cities are expected to follow suit soon.
"This is just one step towards a healthier Halacha and a healthier world," says the court.

The Imperial Fire Decree, of 2018, hereby decree's that the Constitution of Greater Pretoria is suspended and void until further notice. It is therefore permissible to restrict the rights of personal freedom- freedom of expression, including the freedom of the press, the freedom to organize and assemble, the privacy of postal, and communication. Warrants for house searches, orders for confiscations as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed.
The above decree will go into effect immediately.

Signed by- his majesty Alexander William of house Impéra, Oliver Von König, Ryan Von König, Wilhelm Volkar, Jack Lewis Wayne

12-19-2018
The Peoples News
James Smith

The above document is the Imperial Fire Decree, issued by his majesty Alexander William on recommendation of Chancellor Oliver Von König this December, in immediate response to the Imperial fire. The decree has nullified many of our key civil liberties as Pretorian citizens. With Loyalists in powerful positions in the Pretotian government, the decree was used as the legal basis for the imprisonment of anyone considered to be opponents of the Loyalists, and to suppress publications not considered "friendly" to the Loyalist cause.

Meanwhile uproar is in the streets as the remaining republicans are robing gun stores and looting while attempting to organize a fast rebellion, although in vain. The PSF have been deployed and lethal force has been authorized.
Despite this, many people loyal to the king and his allies have been convinced this is necessary to root out all the communists and anti democracy thinkers. This had its intended purpose and many people truly believe that less rights is good for the betterment of our nation. This is what Jakob Hardin had to say,

"It pains me to say that democracy as we know it is under attack. How can the people be as blind as to think that rendering our constitution void can help against getting rid of "communists". My party can't even vote anymore! I've been told that the Peoples Liberation Front has been linked to terrorists in another nation I don't even know! Me and other members of my party have received death threats from all across Pretoria. This is probably the last you'll here or see from me again. I'm going to go say goodbye to my family for the last time."

Meanwhile many PLF members have amassed around the capital in protest while the police are struggling to detain them. It seems they haven't been authorized to eliminate the protesters but it is obvious they want to. Out of the 49 PLF members gathered we have confirmed that 23 have been detained and many more have been assaulted and forced to flee, oh I hope everyone is alright.
But another thing is on everyone's minds, who is this Jack Lewis Wayne? Why is his name on our Constitution and the Fire Decree? What role does he play and how much power does he actually have? So many questions, so little time.
That is all, from the Peoples News, stay strong comrades, remain free.

INTERNATIONAL: Gresswell authorities respond to Thuzbek aggression
Greston, Gresswell Island

Following Thuzbekistan's belligerent and arbitrary withdrawl from the Gresswell Island Treaty, the island holds its breath to wait for what the nations that it so strongly depends on will do. The 1963 treaty banned military instillations on the island and it was announced in recent days that by January 20th 2019, the Thuzbeks will withdraw from the treaty. The response from the Ahnslen Government seems relatively muted so far, with the Governor of Gresswell Island being the only major Ahnslen official to respond.

Keira Marshall gave a speech outside of city hall today.

"Good morning, peers, colleagues and constituents. We have received word that Thuzbekistan will withdraw from the 1963 Gresswell Island Treaty. This is a concerning move which is clearly meant to strongarm us around. I am here today to say that what this treaty truly represented will never be taken away from us. Back in 1963 we restated our decision as to which nation Gresswell wanted to join. We still have no hesitation in our decision and the recent events only solidify our opinions. From that, we formally request the Thuzbeks to respect the decision that our citizens have made and the decisions of the very people fleeing your nation.”

Thuzbekistan is a marginalised and vulnerable state and this is not because of the choices of others, but rather than of themselves and we trust the Unified Electorates to keep our best interests and the recent moves from the aforementioned Government only prove who is a more responsible owner of this island. Our Gaelitic allies are ready and able to respond to any aggressive measures. Both Ainslie and Ostehaar recognise the importance of this agreement and remain backers of it. As for Thuzbekistan, once again we are let down by a Government who doesn't seem to follow any agenda but what their own Government wants."

Marshall then held a small Q and A. Here’s some of what happened

"Ms Marshall, the Thuzbeks have claimed that there are Oster spies on this island. What are your thoughts surrounding that"

"Well, our strict neutrality means that we do not know whether there are spies on this island of any nationality. However, if these claims are not baseless there must be some Thuzbek assets, likely spies on the island."

"What is the fate of their Climate Science facility"

"We do not seek to close it down however if they do continue down this path we will have no choice but to escalate the situation."

"What are your general feelings surrounding the recent situation"
"We are deeply concerned and alerted by this move which appears to have no base or no meaning to it. Despite Thuzbek so-called "claiming" here, this will always be the land of the Green Hills Council and we can trust our Gaelitic allies if they do seek to enforce this illegal and ignorant claim on this island"

Following this announcement, a number of Ahnslen-based NGOs have left the nation including the International Parks and Nature Organisation who withdrew over "security concerns" and Rarite Et Marite, a medical organisation who stated they "now must concentrate their efforts on Gresswell Island".

There are rumours going around the Ahnslen Government that a new batch of sanctions and military deployment are on the table and possible invasion plans may be brought to the table of the Prime Minister for further discussion.

In the midst of these rumours, we have contacted the Ahnslen Government to receive a statement to which they stated that they are examining the situation and their options and will comment when they are ready to do so.

INTERNATIONAL: Days before Christmas, Ainslie readies for possible confrontation
Arnton, Ainslie

In the past fortnight, multiple hotspots of concern to the Ahnslen Government have sprung up. Within months, Ainslie may have the largest deployed non-humanitarian force overseas it has had in many years if the situations around these hotspots deteriorates. With an escalation of events in Keverai amidst worsening protests, Thuzbek threatening Gresswell Island's sovereignty, Athara Magarati blockades of the International District and neo-imperialist acts from Ruios and Vancouvia, for the first time in the past two years Ainslie's regional security has been threatened on multiple fronts.

Breaking an unusually long radio silence, Ambassador to The Western Isles Andrew Whitford who also acts as Deputy Foreign Minister in his secondary role announced the measures Ainslie will be implementing over coming days and also set the modus operandi of the nation's diplomatic and military forces surrounding these issues in a Q and A conference today at the Press Club of the Unified Electorates' December Meeting. Originally meant to be somewhat of a celebration of the year, the Meeting has now turned into a relatively sombre gathering as a result of recent events.

Questions such as "On a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a pain is it to deal with messy eaters in diplomatic meetings" were replaced by "What is the Ahnslen sentiment towards the events happening in the International District"

After that press conference, this is what we know:
  • Regarding San Jimenez: The Ahnslen Government is "deeply concerned" following a civil war which has reinstalled religious government in the nation. The Ahnslen Government will be considering multiple options, both unilateral and multilateral to deal with the issue. Policy announcements on that likely to occur towards the beginning of the New Year.
  • Regarding Gresswell Island: The Ahnslen Government has not directly responded to the situation yet local Weslandic media report increased activity outside the main ARSF base in Highland Ridge. Speculation is that they are on alert. Further announcements unlikely until the New Year.
  • Regarding claims by Vancouvia towards the Sawneeak Atoll: Ambassador Whitford stated that personally he wasn't sure whether this was a joke or not. If they are not a joke, he said that the plan to buy islands is being seen as "neo-imperialist", "strategically unsound" and "unnecessarily aggrevating to our allies".
  • Regarding Roendavar: No reports of major incidents or injuries to ARSF personnel, deployments will continue on as planned.
  • Regarding the Athara Magarati blockade: A clear line was placed that the nation must remove its blockade or else appropriate measures will be taken. General support of the Svalbardian sentiment towards the issue and Whitford make clear that support would be available to nations seeking to remove the blockade if the Magarati Government does not do so themselves.
  • Regarding Ruiosian and Vancouvian war games: "No need to do it in the International District". The situation is being seen as a significant threat to Ainslie and her allies. Ainslie demanding immediate withdrawl of Ruiosian forces. Recent activities by the nation seen as "unnecessarily belligerent and provocative". Political commentators saying that here is likely to be an increased Ahnslen deployment to the base they own in the International District.
  • Regarding VACES agreement with the International District: Whitford stated it is "merely making official what we already knew".

We are set for an interesting end to 2018 in Ainslie. Let's hope everything works out.

His Excellence Shah Jahan Abdullah adresses blockades

President Namazullah speaking about the recent acts

The Western Isles have been rocked recently by new political developments. The biggest of these is the blockade of the International District by Athara Magarat. In a speech, President Abdullah spoke about the need for a balanced solution to the problem, one which balanced international stability with Athara Magarat's claim to the stolen Chatha lands. He also condemned the Vancouvian claims to the Sawneeak atoll, defending the rights of fellow muslims Negarakita to their land. Dhaulapahar is a neutral and pacifist country, so it is unlikely that much policy will change based on these events. In other news, the new Usmanbad-Bahadurpura railway extension has been completed, which will ease the transportation of goods between the two cities.
