Breaking: Government forms Confidence and Supply Agreement with National Revolution Party and Democratic Party

Today, the Chancellor announced that, after days of discussions, he has successfully agreed a confidence and supply agreement with Jeffrey Harlan, Leader of the National Revolution Party, and Sean Michaelson, Chairperson of the Democratic Party. The agreement was announced in a press conference at the Chancellery, in which it was agreed that the National Revolution Party and Democratic Party will agree to support the government in Parliamentary votes when it comes to votes of no confidence and the passing of the budget, as well as elect Montgomery Waterman, the Social Democratic candidate for President of the Senate. In exchange, the government has made some changes to government policy which are more appealing the two parties.

One of the main policies includes tax cuts, in which the top tax bracket on earnings about 150,000 Thalers will be reduced from 70% to 60% and the rate on the 2nd Tax Bracket on earnings between 12,500 Thalers and 50,000 Thalers will be reduced from 20% to 15%, which will be implemented in the next budget. As a compromise with the National Revolution Party, the government will also partially nationalise the oil sector, in a similar way to how the banking sector was nationalised in 2008. Furthermore, as part of the arrangement, on the demand of the National Revolution Party and Democratic Party, referendums will be held on membership of WIDA as well as any potential membership of other international alliances and economic unions such as the G4.

This is not going to be a repeat of the socialist Fisher-Breitbarth 1993 coalition. A Confidence and Supply arrangement falls short of a coalition. It does not involve an agreed long-term programme of policies and will not involve the Democratic Party or National Revolution Party holding ministerial office, let alone either party’s leader taking on the role of Vice Chancellor. The agreement will be reviewed in 2023, in which the parties will consider whether or not the Confidence and Supply arrangement should continue or not.

This comes during the current vote to elect a new Senate President. So far, all Senators have voted for their party leaders, meaning no candidate has managed to secure the 51 votes needed to become the Senate President. Last Monday, during the nominations, in which candidates must be nominated by one other Senator, Leader of the Social Conservative Party Kyson Schuler was the only party leader who did not receive a nomination as a result of being the only Senator for his party. On Wednesday, Senate Leader of the Biaten People’s League Vale Martell was eliminated, followed by Senate Leader of the National Revolution Party Christian Landon on Friday and Senate Leader of the Democratic Party Kelly Atterbury earlier today. It is expected that the 19 Democratic and National Revolution Senators will vote for the Social Democratic candidate, Montgomery Waterman, in the next round on Wednesday.

CIVIL RIGHTS ADVOCATES EXPRESS NEED FOR FOCUSED RECOVERY

Minorities were Hurt by Floods the Most According to Reports

A report released by the Westmoorish Committee for Ethnic Justice (WCEJ) claims that over half of the households damaged by the recent flood crisis belonged to ethnic, racial, and religious minority groups in the Westmoor Isles. President of the WCEJ, Christian Doe, published a video on the organization's website titled "Denaturalizing the Floods" where he addresses what he believes are the deep-seeded causes for the flood crisis's damages. Doe cites the extensive damages experienced disproportionately by minority communities within the state of Bernow as yet another in a list of injustices experienced by minorities living in Westmoor.

According to Doe, of the 21 individuals who died in Angel's Peak during the flood, 14 of them were minorities. Angel's Peak is Westmoor's second largest city and the most diverse. Some, like Doe, question if the faulty infrastructure which enabled the floods to cause extreme damage is to blame for the disproportionate number of minority deaths during the crisis. Doe also observes in his video that the areas that received false or inaccurate emergency warnings were also home to minority communities.

South of Devil's Alley lies the Bernow Mountains Serpans Enclave, home to the highest concentration of indigenous Serpans in Westmoor. This Enclave was one of the first areas of land designated for Serpans communities following the Second Independence of Westmoor. The Enclave has a long history of being one of the poorest areas in the entire nation and is one of the most damaged areas following the floods. Doe mentions in his video that his family lived on this Enclave up until the 1980s and suffered from inadequate healthcare and poor education. Despite having over 10,000 citizens, the Bernow Mountains Serpans Enclave only has a single primary school with a staff of twenty teachers. This same school was almost completely destroyed during the flood. Doe encourages both the federal and state government to focus on small communities like this Enclave as recovery efforts move forward.

To watch Christian Doe's video and learn more about how this crisis has impacted small minority communities you can visit the Westmoorish Committee on Ethnic Justice's website at https://www.wcej.co.wmi

FLOOD CLEANUP IN ANGEL'S PEAK PROGRESSING RAPIDLY

City Streets Declared Safe Once More

The crisis appears to be approaching its end for the city of Angel's Peak as cleanup is well on its way. Major streets in the city's urban center have been cleared of floodwaters and debris and declared safe by response crews working in the city. Residents of the Angel's Peak metropolitan area are celebrating what appears to be the light at the end of the tunnel for them, but for many who lost their homes and businesses, the troubles are only beginning. Insurance claims spiked after storms wiped out hundreds of families' property and many are concerned that this disaster will damage the national economy dramatically. The last time there was a disaster to this extent in Westmoor it lead to the popping of the Westmoorish 2004 Housing Bubble and the worst recession the nation's ever seen. Economists warn that Westmoor may be headed directly towards another crisis like 2004.

Throngist Movement Party of Lesva (TMPL) becomes provisional ruling party in Lesva

Throngist Movement Party of Lesva (TMPL) made ruling party of Lesva until snap parliamentary election

Image

Logo/Emblem of TMPL party

Until the snap parliamentary election, Lesva will have a provisional ruling party – the rising Throngist Movement Party of Lesva (TMPL). Ideologically, TMPL has aspects of Nationalism and Socialism, but denies having any alignment to the ideology of National Socialism. Throng itself is defined as “a large, densely packed crowd of people or animals.” The unique TMPL’s ideology of Throngism has that socialist aspect of focusing on the well-being of the people and keeping people together, not letting anyone feel left out or alone. TMPL will still run in the snap parliamentary election. President Giva Tesin, Prime Minister Frei Jauca and Speaker of the Carto Visem Calbesu have all declared themselves members of TMPL.

21st of May, 2021

Arnton, WL - Mostly Sunny. Max: 24C Min: 13C

DOMESTIC: Arlanah to hold electorate-wide elections early

ANERTAH (AN) - In what stands as a confirmation of the murmurs of an unsettled government in Anertah, Governor Nate Wollins today has stated that instead of a swathe of by-elections being held in a week there will be a general election for the entirety of Arlanah on the 20th of June. This comes after a court ruling dismissed four mayors, a City Council councillor and Lawrence Jackson, an electoral delegate for a ring of various wrongs extending from dual allegiances to aiding a fugitive in escaping lawful arrest. It also comes two years earlier than the mandatory four years has elapsed.

Arlanah, one of Ainslie’s smallest electorates with a population a touch above two million, has been a bastion for conservative and nationalist thinkers and politicians in the nation. However, the last election gave off a less than decisive result for any party - making the finding of the Judicial Council that much more troublesome for a government now plunged into minority.

The announcement also comes about one week away from when the by-elections were meant to occur, with polling suggesting highlighting a very mixed and uncertain result than last election. This has mainly been considered as a result of the lack of clarity as to the extent to which Ahnited and the APC will compete for voters as well as the fate of the Independent Nationalists Party which, at least in the eyes of people trying to understand what could happen at these by-elections, is as equally elusive. It is a bold and decisive option, particularly when considering that the Government could attempt to reach over party lines and woo over ACEGAD support on individual topics.

The positions of mayor and deputy mayor in all of the 177 councils across Arlanah will be up for grabs, as will the Governorship and all five delegateships to the Electoral Council. Today in a statement Governor Wollins stated that the decision was difficult yet was necessary.

“In a time like this, after everything we have learnt through the Judicial Council and the unrest that has been caused as a result it is time for the people of Arlanah to pass judgment themselves on my government and on all of the governments that represent themselves across the electorate. By no means was it easy to come to this decision, but my position as Governor demands that I act in the interests of democracy and not of party politics or partisanship. The foundations of Arlanah’s last election results have been rattled and it frankly does not pass the fairness test to try and pursue an option other than an early election.”

It is expected over the coming hours and days, as has occurred in other electorates and federally, that there will be a number of defections from the Ahnslen Peoples Congress either to ACEGAD or to Ahnited or to stand as an independent. Whilst it is unclear how strong this trend is, sources close to the Government note that this is of particular concern personally to the Governor.

Arendai requested a statement from the Independent Nationalists Party, who have declined to offer any comment at this time.

DOMESTIC: Wesland commits 65m to 'accelerate' mRNA capabilities in Ainslie

HERRIDEN (AN) - Governor Hailes today, after touring the upgraded laboratory facilities at Endar Biotech in Herriden, announced a new 65 million Ahnsen package to boost the development of messenger RNA (mRNA) technology in Ainslie. Hailes this morning particularly pointed to the need to keep Wesland on the forefront of vaccine technology, describing the new investment as ‘a push towards tomorrow for the companies of the future’. The move has been broadly supported by those invested in the technologies as well as the medical field at large. However, the GP peak body in Wesland has described the announcement as an ‘impressive gamble’, pointing to mRNA tech being a particularly new technology.

“This search into what mRNA could do started in the 80s. Whilst progress has been sluggish yet promising, it is a bit of a surprise that a Government has so intentionally provided a push to the private market to further develop the technologies.”, the organisation said in a statement shortly after the announcement. They continued by saying that “this bold investment is an encouraging sign for research and development, particularly in medical fields, into the future”.

The 65m has been earmarked largely for the University of Wesland and two vaccine companies - Endar BioTech and Nordox Pharmaceuticals who have been on the cutting edge of developing this technology.

Messenger RNA is the way through which information is sent from the centre of human cells to proteins that are in the cell itself but a bit further away. The logic behind this is that this can be manipulated by injections or by other means to make it so cells produce certain parts of a particular disease that in turn stimulates an immune response. This then causes antibodies to form and allows for a level of immunity - however the exact amount offered to people as a result of mRNA technology is not yet certain.

mRNA has been touted as having multiple applications and once established is a faster and less expensive way to make vaccines from everything to influenza to potentially teaching the body how to fight cancers more effectively. Governor Hailes particularly pointed to the ability for rapid vaccination development as a key rationale behind this investment.

“There will be another pandemic soon and Wesland needs to be ready for it. As we’ve all become more independent and national boundaries have become less of a feature in the broader lives we all live, this leaves us particularly vulnerable to disease at a scale and rate unlike before. Whilst we are excited to see the developments mRNA could have in treating cancers amongst other uses, the core aim of this package is as a part of Ainslie’s broader pandemic preparedness strategy. Wesland has a key part to play in this - the three largest vaccine businesses in the nation are here. Many of the key research and development institutes for dealing with pandemics and to better address diseases are here. My Government refuses to rely on the federal government on this issue - if mRNA is as successful as it appears it will be, Wesland will benefit greatly and Ainslie’s ability to deal with contagions will be even more advanced as it is now.”

Governor Hailes was joined by Daren Cadine and Jas Renner, the CEOs of Nordox and Endar respectively, who spoke of the how the technology worked and the potential it has to transform Wesland’s ‘already near-futuristic health sciences industry’.

In a statement posted a few hours ago, the Ahnslen Ministry of Health praised the move by Governor Hailes, describing it as “another example of the Government’s commitment to being at the cutting edge of science and technology not only in Ainslie but across the Isles.”

Arendai contacted the Ministry to inquire as to whether any new announcements based upon the mRNA investment by Governor Hailes would be coming from the federal government. They declined the opportunity to respond.

Hena Road Advisory Lifted--But Gang Seems to Plague Chasse Area Now

Locals report a significant crime spree outside of Chasse in recent days, which has targeted two businesses and one khat farm in eastern Martenyika. Four civilians are known to have been shot dead and at least two robbed. Law enforcement authorities have entertained the possibility that this may once again be the work of the Hena Road gang, but eyewitness testimony and physical evidence is scant at this time.

Within the past few days, criminals violently robbed two eastern Martenyikan businesses in the Chasse region including a gas station and a roadside merchant stand, shooting both people. Most recently it appears that the same group raided a khat farm owned by the local Chasse Khat company, killing two employees and making off with a large portion of the product.

Martenyikan authorities are lifting the travel advisory for the Hena Road area, which stretches between the cities of Hena and Port Bonare, but it is questionable whether the roadways around Chasse will require the same safety measures as Hena Road earlier this month. If it is the Hena Road gang, they appear to be growing more ambitious and more brazen by the week. Some vigilant groups in eastern Martenyika are already on the lookout for what they suspect is the Hena Road gang.

The Royal Cryer

Chancellor Deckard Dies to Liver Failure.

The 53 year old Chancellor Brandon Deckard was found dead in his home this morning. though a responsible and hard worker, Deckard was known to be a heavy drinker and had been experiencing an increase in health issues. Deckard died from liver failure due to increasing liver disease, he was found by his wife Martha, having passed away in his rocking chair with a bottle in his hand.

The Kingdom mourns the death of its chancellor and the government is working fast to begin emergency elections. However a controversial law was discovered stating that the King of Havalland is supposed to take the chancellors place, Leon refused and placed a trusted regent as temporary chancellor until a new one can be elected. The old law had not been used for a long time and had completely gone under the radar. The parliament is going to put off putting in place a new law to replace the old one until after Chancellor Deckard’s funeral.

PRIME MINISTER FACES IMPEACHMENT

Parliament to Vote on a Motion for an Impeachment Trial on the 28th

The Prime Minister of the Westmoor Isles faces impeachment after a motion was proposed by Labour Party MP Sasha Wilson during this Monday afternoon session of Parliament. The proposal evokes the House of Commons' power to call for a Trial of Impeachment against the Prime Minister if they determine that they are unfit for office. Minister Wilson proposed that Prime Minister Joseph O'Connor was unfit for office because of recent findings that suggests he preferentially awarded infrastructure contracts to the Eastern Lowlands Construction Company, a subsidiary of the O'Connor Mining Company. The PM's brother, Armand O'Connor, is the sitting CEO of the O'Connor Mining Company and the O'Connor family maintains a majority share in the company. The House of Commons will vote on the motion and, if it passes, they will schedule the impeachment trial.

Since his initial election in 2018, Prime Minister O'Connor has faced criticism for his close ties to one of the most financially powerful companies in the Westmoor Isles. His father, and longest reigning Prime Minister, Jackson O'Connor faced similar criticisms over his eleven terms in office. Nepotism has been a frequent concern among opponents of the Liberty Party as well as some MPs belonging to the party who fear that it will corrupt their party's platform. Regardless, polls taken among constituents suggests that public opinion was already down for the standing Prime Minister and his government, and it is reasonably expected that the potential impeachment trial will only damage the Liberty Party further. This is the first attempt at a Trial of Impeachment since 1973 when Conservatives tried and failed to impeach Prime Minister Lindsey Weiler.

To keep up with updates on the Impeachment of Prime Minister O'Connor visit https://www.wmn3.co.wmi/impeachment-2021

WESTMOOR'S LARGEST PRISON HAS FINISHED CONSTRUCTION

The Grey Isle Penitentiary has Finished Construction and Plans to Open by the End of the Month

Construction on the new largest prison in the Westmoor Isles, the Grey Isle Penitentiary, has been completed and the facility plans to open for prisoners by the end of May. The Grey Isle Penitentiary is a private for-profit prison located on a small island off the coast of the Lowlands. This island was previously uninhabited prior to its purchase by the Westmoorish correctional faciliy company Southland Corrections, who began construction on the facility in early 2015. The project faced several setbacks as the company had to adjust the size and capacity of areas of the prison as legal requirements were altered in 2017. Despite these setbacks, the Grey Isle Penitentiary has finished construction and has a maximum capacity of 1,250 prisoners. It is currently estimated that as many as 200 prisoners will be transferred to the facility within the first month of operation and that there will be many more transfers in the months to come.

Southland Corrections has gained negative press for supposed mistreatment and abuse in their detention centers. In 2009 there was national outrage following the death of 16-year-old Jeremy Waites in their East Bend Juvenile Detention Center. Waites was incarcerated for six months for the sale of marijuana and had served five months of his sentence at the East Bend Juvenile Detention Center when a correctional officer beat him several times over the head with a baton, leading to his death. Southland Corrections faced severe scrutiny from the press as well as the federal government following the incident and have had trouble restoring their reputation. Rumors have circulated for years that prisoners in their facilities still face abuse, both physical and psychological, as their guards have received numerous complaints and their facilities tend to have small, crowded cells. Protests broke out when the state government of the Lowlands chose to partner with the company for the construction of three new high-capacity state penitentiaries. Despite the initial protests dwindling, it is expected that as Southland Corrections moves forward with the construction of the new detention centers there will be more public outcry.

One aspect of the Grey Isle Penitentiary that has drawn negative feedback is its location. The island upon which it is constructed has been uninhabited for seemingly centuries. Environmentalists criticized what they saw as the desecration of an untouched habitat which deserved to be preserved. Others criticized the location choice because they saw it as inhumane, separating prisoners from the mainland of Westmoor and needlessly isolating them. Popular Westmoorish political activist Christian Doe stated that the island was "an archaic and needless way to dehumanize prisoners" by making them feel even more separated from Westmoorish society.

It is expected that the Grey Isle Penitentiary will never reach its maximum capacity as there are only around 4,000 incarcerated individuals in the Westmoor Isles. The facility's large staff and maintenance costs will be funded in part by federal and state governments, but will largely be driven by the facility's onsite factory which will manufacture industrial and machine parts. Westmoorish law mandates that prisoners be paid for their labour, but do not have a strict minimum wage for prison labour. Many prisons which use inmate labour pay them as little as 25 pence an hour. Prisons also do not have to have prisoner consent to work and can force them as part of their sentence.

The Carto changes presidential election from direct to indirect

The Carto changes presidential election system from the head of state being elected by the public to being elected by parliament

Lesvan legislature the Carto has changed the election law regarding the presidential election. From now on, instead of the president being elected directly by the public, the head of state would be elected by the Carto. The decision to let the parliament select the head of state was defended by Speaker of the Carto Visem Calbesu, who said that the election of the president by the public has led to a lot of fraud and inconsistencies, which in turn led to the recent political crisis, which itself led to the revolutionary events of the Saela Spring. As a preemptive measure, the Carto would elect the president, who would serve as a figurehead and a ceremonial post within the Lesvan national leadership, while the government, the parliament and the constitutional court would hold more powers. The post of the president was already not that strong prior to the events of the Saela Spring, although it held more weight in comparison to what the Carto intends, from now on, to do to the office.

Government promises subsidies to Tourism sector ahead of Summer Season

Lesvan Tourism is preparing for Summer as the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Industry agree on subsidies following recent political crisis

The Lesvan political crisis, Saela Spring and the currently effective Martial Law have made the Tourism industry of Lesva take a hit, which has been a recognized fact. As the Summer Season is days away, in order to aid the Tourism industry, make it more competitive internationally and ready for the upcoming season with new strength and energy, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Industry have announced subsidies approved by the Carto, following the convincing of lawmakers that the Tourism industry needed additional support especially. With a new “safety pillow” and a boost, the Lesvan leadership expects the most productive results. The nation remains open to visitors from all countries in the world as the Martial Law is preparing to be lifted in a couple of days.

Chief of the General Staff of the Lesvan Armed Forces General Pava Sari has said that Lesva would be buying new class warplanes from Segentova, following the proposal of the latter country of its’ warplanes for the Lesvan market. The warplanes would be bought for the Lesvan Air Force, which would be largely made up of Segentovan warplanes in its’ new state as the air force grows. Nevertheless, General Pava Sari also revealed that the priority and focus in the military largely remains aimed at growing and modernizing the Army.

PARLIAMENT VOTES FOR IMPEACHMENT

Wilson Report Made Public, Revealing Cause for Impeachment

Parliament voted to move forward with the proposed Trial of Impeachment against Prime Minister Joseph O'Connor in an emergency meeting convened early this morning. The proposal was made by Minister Sasha Wilson in response to a report privately released to her office by investigators. This report, which has been dubbed the "Wilson Report," has now been made public and reveals the full extent of the allegations against the Prime Minister. In order to motion for a Trial of Impeachment, the proposal needed a four fifths majority which it narrowly received with 83 ayes, 7 nays, and 10 abstentions. Of those 10 abstentions, 8 were made by fellow members of the Liberty Party.

While not all of the contents have yet been made public, the Wilson Report has already been spread across the nation. The report alleges that the Prime Minister awarded federal infrastructure contracts and subsidies preferentially to the Eastern Lowlands Construction Company, a subsidiary of the O'Connor Mining Company. The report states that in return, the Prime Minister received sizable kickbacks from the company that were deposited to overseas bank accounts. Some of these projects included levees and retaining walls along the Python River and the Bernow Mountains that failed during the flood crisis in late April. Projects led by the Eastern Lowlands Construction Company (ELCC) were frequently incomplete or were of poor quality, according to findings included in the report. The ELCC also reportedly operated under several shell corporations to receive a higher number of contracts without raising suspicion. Minister Wilson proposed impeachments on the grounds that the PM acted in his own self-interest when preferentially contracted the ELCC, and is therefore unfit for office.

Parliament's emergency meeting took place at 8 in the morning and had all 100 members of the House of Commons in attendance. The Prime Minister himself did not show up for the meeting and some claim that he was golfing as it convened. The meeting was opened by a speech given by Minister Wilson regarding the report, which was met by almost unanimous applause. The floor then opened to debate, where Majority Representative Lawrence Cohen of the Progressive Party gave a statement condemning the Prime Minister and urging for a swift vote in favor. Following Cohen's speech, Minister Henry Brian of the Labour Party began a speech which derided the Prime Minister and the Liberty Party for enabling his actions, but Brian was cut short when Cohen called for order and demanded that Brian retract a statement where he referred to the Prime Minister as a series of obscenities. Eventually, after three hours of speeches which were mostly against the Prime Minister, the session was called for time. Debates in Parliament are only supposed to last 2 and a half hours at most, but the Majority and Minority Representatives allowed it to go on past its allotted time as they believed that the subject of the session was important enough to continue.

Westmoorish response to the Impeachment proposal and the Wilson Report has been almost unanimously against the Prime Minister. Several users on social media platforms voiced their discontent for the Prime Minister, who some have begun calling "Crooked O'Connor." Since the initial proposal on the 24th, political pundits expressed their opinion on O'Connor. Conservative journalist Isaac Nguyen (not to be confused with his cousin and Minority Representative, Lee Nguyen) said in his evening news report that he saw "no way that O'Connor could weasel out of this one" and that "his funeral bells are already ringing."

It remains to be seen if the Supreme Court will find the Prime Minister guilty. Judges in the Supreme Court are expected to be non-partisan, but of the fifteen judges, 8 of them previously held office while members of the Liberty Party. The first hearing is scheduled June 4th, where the Supreme Court will hear the charges and the House of Commons will present their their case. The House of Commons may call in witness against the Prime Minister, and the defense will have a chance to cross-examine the witnesses in the following hearing which will take place on June 11th. There has never been a successful impeachment against a Prime Minister in Westmoorish history, though in the days of the early Republic of Westmoor Isles there were multiple impeached presidents.

The timing of the impeachment has raised eyebrows among some supporters of the Prime Minister, as midterm elections will be taking place at the end of June. Some consider it too convenient of timing and believe it is an attempt to damage the Liberty Party. If the Trial of Impeachment is successful and the Supreme Court finds O'Connor guilty, the Westmoorish Constitution dictates that a snap election be called to elect a new Prime Minister. It is likely that Parliament will schedule the election to take place alongside the House of Commons elections. Following this snap election, the Prime Minister will serve until the December elections, meaning that within one year Westmoor could have three different Prime Ministers hold office.

Saxman faces removal

New Jacobland's controversial President Aaron Saxman is under threat of losing his position as leader of the nation. Eight MPs have expressed their support of a no-confidence vote at the next Nationalist Party Conference. This appears likely to pass, although it is extremely controversial. Many politicians, experts, and armchair analysts have made comments:

MP Jason Vroys

I believe Aaron Saxman has disgraced the Nationalists, disgraced New Jacobland's democracy. He has threatened human rights abuses in the Palo, and supports major militarisation. Due to this, I will motion a vote of no-confidence in Saxman. I implore the rest of the Nationalist Party to come to their senses and vote 'Aye'.

MP Aston Jacks

This is unacceptable. In a worrying time for New Jacobland, these unfaithful, disloyal traitors to the Nationalist Party have undermined the rightful President. I will stand by Saxman, for a greater New Jacobland!

If this motion passes, what happens next?

1. The conference will be adjourned immediately. The next day, a leadership vote among the MPs will be held. The winner will be sworn in as Nationalist Leader. However, that isn't the end of it.

2. The Jicovian House then votes in a special election, for President. In this case their is a very real chance whoever succeeds Saxman as head of the Nationalists will not be elected.

3. Whoever is elected then serves for the rest of the term.

New Jacobland News

Day 1 of the Party Conferences

Nationalist Party:

A massive change to the Nationalist Party's leadership seems imminent. A vote of no-confidence was introduced by MP Jason Vroys, and was immediately seconded by MP Diana Williams. After two hours of heated debate, the final vote was called. Only elected MPs were able to vote. The results were as follows:

Aye - 20
Nay - 16

With these results Aaron Saxman was removed as Party Leader, and therefore as President. Tomorrow we shall see who will replace him, and on Monday the Jicovian House will convene to elect a new President.

Socialist Party

A lot happened in this conference, and major changes were made to the manifesto. Firstly, the party rebranded itself as the People's Party, and made steps to distance itself from socialism. It now advocates for a welfare state, rather than a planned economy, as well as adding portions regarding gun control. This comes in the aftermath of fatal attacks by the UPI, which have killed more than 200 people this year.

Liberty Party

Not much happened here, more discussion on which direction to take the party in the future. It also approved the Socialists ending their support of planned economy, and became ever so slightly more left leaning.

Reform Party

They didn't have a conference, out of fear of terrorist attacks. This broke a tradition stretching back to 1875, as since then every party under every democratic regime has held a conference.

So, some pretty big changes today. These will shake New Jacobland's political landscape, and what happens tomorrow could determine the future of the nation.

BREAKING

Jozef van Tan elected as Nationalist Party leader

MP Jozef van Tan has been elected Nationalist Party leader, in one of the tightest leadership spills seen. With Jason Vroys introducing a no-confidence vote to the Conference, frustration from moderate Nationalists boiled over. Saxman was voted out of Party leadership, and this threatens to cause a massive divide in the party.

Saxman has vowed to continue fighting for a strong New Jacobland, rallying his supporters at a crucial time for New Jacobland. This is directly at odds with new leader van Tan, who wants international cooperation, and is pacifist. It appears that in the next election van Tan will attempt to remove Saxman as an MP, forcing Saxman to make changes. In response to this threat, Saxman said he would take his loyal party members to a new party, which would devastate the Nationalists.

But who is Jozef van Tan? van Tan was born on August 22, 1980 in Lehma. He is of Dutch heritage, being a descendant of the Vroen Sier expedition, an attempt to colonise New Jacobland, which was rejected by British colonial government. However, the people on the Vroen Sier liked the land so much they stayed, which led to the city of Verstaat outside of Lehma having a major Dutch population. van Tan went to the public school James Walker of Verstaat for his primary years. His father died fighting in the Second Jacobland War, but the city of Verstaat was mostly unscathed. He achieved a scholarship for the prestigious National Institute of Education in Lehma, where he graduated with high honours. Working as a computer engineer, he discovered an interest in politics, and at age 26 ran in the 2006 election as a member of the Centrist Party. He caught the sight of the Nationalists, and became a Nationalist MP in Kiyer. van Tan quickly rose through the ranks, and in 2018 was given the Mackie Award for services to the Nationalist Party.

The full results of the leadership vote are as follows:

Round 1

Jozef van Tan - 10
Jason Vroys - 7
Mick Jensen - 6
Jon Silvan - 5
Mark Aprev - 5
Luca King - 3

Round 2

van Tan - 10
Vroys - 8
Jensen - 7
Silvan - 6
Aprev - 5

Round 3

van Tan - 12
Vroys - 10
Jensen - 8
Silvan - 6

Round 4

van Tan - 14
Jensen - 12
Vroys - 10

Round 5

Investiture of Guy de Bigorre d'Évreux

By Clair Côté
Monday - 31st May 2021
VILLEFRANCHE-DE-L'HÔPITAL — In a solemn event in Saints, Guy de Bigorre d'Évreux took oath of his office as President of the Union of Thromsa, starting the Tenth Presidency, with the end of office of Ralph Dawson.

Ahead is a term of 6 years, likely starting with Presidential appointments, and maintaining the Presidential Residence in Villefrance-de-l'Hôpital, as it has been since 1998 with President Barthélémy Desjardins. It has been customary for newly elected Presidents to dismiss Parliament and appoint a new Government, but Guy de Bigorre d'Évreux had previously mentioned he would likely not dismiss Parliament, given that portions of it are going for election later this year. This still opens the door to the dismissal of Government, which according to some political journalists is likely.

Guy is the youngest President of Thromsa, being solely 36 years old, as well as the first from Maria Karolina, having attended the IFT Sainte-Thérèse Faculty of Law and Political Science for a Licentiate of Laws with Honours, then pursuing for a Master's degree in Human Rights Law at the Catholic University of Thromsa, initially starting a career as Deputy Assistant Solicitor of the Union, achieving office as Assistant Solicitor of the Union, both at the Federal Courts of Immigration and of Exchequer for Saints representing the Immigration Service and the Directorate-General for Customs and Excise, later, in 2010, Guys entered Hunnisett, von Weizsäcker & Lévêque LLP, as an attorney for matters of Immigration Law as well as Human Rights Law.

In a Test to Democracy, Assembly Elections are Here
By: James Galleon

After 4 years seats in the National Assembly are up for elections. The Representative Party, the current majority, is expected to keep its majority; as the Federalists find ways to have a say in government. Assembly Speaker Myra David was quoted saying this about the upcoming elections "The Essenian people have been treated well during this administration and expect the Representative Party to stay in power as we help the Chancellor move his agenda along for Essena. Roger Halifax, representing the opposition, has said that "the Essenian people want to see how the other side will run the country and the surge of new members identifying as Federalists and running for office is a promising sign that people understand the Federalist Party's platform. So I do feel we have a shot at gaining the majority in the Assembly."

The Representative Party Hold the Majority Even with Other Parties Entering the Race
By: Francis Drew

National Assembly elections were held today as the Representative Party hopes to keep its majority in the National Assembly. The difference between last year's elections and this year's is that other parties were able to be on the ballot. Also unique was that those other parties were able to get Delegates on the the Assembly. The highest of the parties to gain seats were the Forward Party and the Civil Liberty Party, each getting a respective 3 seats. With the introduction of other political parties coalitions formed. Both the CLP and the FPE had committed to working with the Representative Party in the coming 4 years, though one has to wonder if the CLP will be more hesitant to side with the FPE on certain decisions. Adding in the seats from the coalitions the Representative Party received 160 seats while the Federalist Party with the National Essena Party have 141. With a majority of the seats in the Assembly Myra David was able to retain the Assembly Speaker position. With a new Assembly, Representative Party supported Chancellor Abraham Moore will have an easy time getting legislation passed during his last 2 years in office. Even though not gaining the majority the Federalist Party were able to grab 9 more seats.

Balniki Air Force tests Doraltic resolve, gets taught how quickly the URAF responds to threats

F-7 Gargoyle and F-9 Tempests were involved in the interception over Feerwerd

By: Pénélope Hill
KLAPPENBERG - The serenity of this Friday morning was rudely interrupted by the sounds of roaring afterburners. Operating primarily from Klappenberg Air Base but additionally across the network, fighters of the United Republics Air Force scrambled at a few minutes after sunrise to respond to a breach of Doraltic airspace in the southwest over the Balniki border. According to military reports, a full 14-craft squadron of Balniki Vus-79 fighters escorted four Vkat-08 attackers over the border at sunrise. The Balniki aircraft were being tracked by ground radar for some time but the incursion, according to defense analyst Myron Rowntree "was less about testing our ground detection capabilities, which Chernobog is confident are outmatched by his own systems, but rather to test Doraltic response time in preparation for a first strike." Rowntree elaborated further to the Dispatch quote:

The Balniki military is always trying to probe our capabilities, goading us into situations much like this morning's in order to test how fast we can react. The Defense Forces are well aware of this and constantly drill for scenarios just like this one, so everything was well and truly under control from a military perspective.

Just before 5:30 AM, the Balniki aircraft veered away from a path that would go over the city of Klappenberg in southern Feerwerd and turned north, after which at 5:36 they were intercepted by Gargoyles of the 21st Squadron and were escorted away from Doraltic airspace. The Ministry of Defense also reported today that a flight of three Gaelfighters from 31st Squadron joined the interception, which it claims were undetected both by Balniki air search radar and Doraltic air search radar until they broke off about four miles from the border over the Kotlumi Mountians. No shots were fired on both sides and Klappenberg was not under serious threat of attack according to the Ministry of Defense.

Feerwerd officials did question the Dyson government today as well regarding the use of heavy restraint with Balnik in today's encounter, citing a growing list of abuses the Balniki government has performed against Dormill and Stiura and its allies in the past year, calling specific attention to Chernobog's growing list of state allies in the form of the new Lesvan government and the Aprosian government, both of which have expressed support for Chernobog's regime and have even engaged in military exercises on the Faronna Islands (which are still in contention with Roendavar) over the course of spring and early summer.

ECP Lists Demands to Fund 2020 Infrastructure Bill, Threatens Coalition Break Again

Parliament has turned into ground zero for a political battle this weekend over funding for the year old Rural Eastern Connectivity Bill of July 2020. The Eastern Citizens Party (ECP) took the stage during this weekend's extended session, once again threatening to break off of President Zubele's coalition if concessions are not made to provide substantial funding to July 2020's eastern infrastructure bill. This time, ECP loyals Asani Mondli and Ade Naude listed specific demands, such as scrapping an older Martenyikan Navy buoy tender, "postponing" imminent refit of one submarine, and enacting an 18 month moratorium on major defense spending. The divisive demands are reportedly being negotiated...[READ MORE >>>]

More Eyes Set On Keverai

With Keverai recently becoming more interested in boosting their own economy, their government has repeatability hinted at welcoming companies from around the Isles to come and set up shop. Naturally, these talks have spread their way into board rooms and executive offices in Belantica for quite some time. It's speculated that many firms in Belantica are looking into entering Keverai as a new launching point into the markets of Argus, which is growing and becoming more competitive. It is also said that many business magnates are already talking with MPs and Senators within Parliament to reach out to the government of Keverai to begin talks on entering. Should this be true, it's expected that the stock market will rally and the shares of the firms entering Keverai will go up. We'd definitely are watching this develop, as it's sure to bring attention on this endeavor.

15th of June, 2021

Arnton, WL - Sunny. Max: 25C Min: 8C

DOMESTIC: Get to know the Arlanah election candidates

ANERTAH (AN) - The Arlanah electoral elections are shaping up to be some of the most intense in the electorate’s history. A number of announcements and shifts in positioning from a range of people has created a unique and complex environment that voters will encounter and decide upon on June 20. In this article, Arendai will endeavour to summarise and cut through the politics and the messaging to give clear information to allow you to make an informed choice. This article is made of three parts - a look at all the candidates for the Governorship, then to some of the defections and party switches we have seen since the election was announced. It will then conclude by pointing to some important smaller-scale elections to watch.

The Governor Candidates
Nate WOLLINS - Independent Candidate - latest polling - 28% primary vote
The currently sitting Governor of Arlanah, Nate Wollins was one of the most high profile departures from the Ahnslen People’s Congress after the election was called. Much has been discussed about the exact reasons Wollins left the party but the official line remains that he considered a need for an independent, fearless and values-oriented leader unaligned with any specific political party. The APC has openly commented on this, declaring that it was pleased that the Governor was pursuing his convictions

As for policy, Wollins appears to be focused on both infrastructure and technological innovation - including the upgrading of the Manara Highway, a new light rail system for Badara and a duplication of the rail line between Anertah and Badara. On the technological side, the incumbent Governor appears to be focused on attracting homegrown talent back from the Wesland Universities in key industries like advanced manufacturing and agricultural sciences.

Aurelia GARVER - Candidate for the Ahnited Party - latest polling - 27% primary vote
A prodigy in the Ahnslens United Party, Aurelia Garver has quickly gained a following as a result of her active commentary of the Judicial Council’s case and her close links to the University of Arlanah.

Garver’s major policies involve the upgrading of the healthcare system and similarly to Wollins, a focus on maintaining talent within the electorate.

Claire DERADI - Candidate for the Ahnslen Centrists for Economic Growth and Development - latest polling 23% of the primary vote

A long-standing figure in centrist Arlanah politics, Claire Deradi is running on a platform of ensuring a sustainable and stable government in the electorate. Deradi’s focus is largely oriented towards transitioning the economy from being mining and traditional agriculture oriented to a low carbon society centred on the development and application of new technology to improve production. The candidate has also pointed to the need to retain talent in Arlanah, announcing that she would work with Wesland universities to get more campuses in Arlanite communities. Deradi has also attained the endorsement of the Science and Technology Party.

Jerren VERADAR - Candidate for the Ahnslen Peoples Congress - latest polling 12% of the primary vote
A long-standing figure in the APC, Veradar has not attained the same level of electorate-wide support that was largely expected. Instead, polling seems to suggest that the vote has collapsed for the party at least at a broader level - this may be explained however largely by the lack of popularity of the party in Anertah and Menindai now.

Jerren Veradar’s policies largely focus on an improvement in the welfare and subsidy system for those in agriculture industries as well as further work with the federal Government to ensure and help to develop Arlanite-centric industries.

Tony NOREN - Candidate for the Independent Nationalists Party - latest polling 10% of the primary vote
Tony Noren, largely an outsider from the central apparatus of the Indenats, has suddenly been elevated in Jackson’s wake. Noren has spent much of the campaign reshaping and reframing the Indenats party to focus on conservative values, the centrality of the family in government policy and being outspoken on issues that would otherwise be shied away from by other Ahnslen politicians such as assisted dying, gender policy, the death penalty and abortion.

The Moves
Several mayors have also switched allegiances for a number of factors such as the controversy surrounding the Independent Nationalists Party, the slow shift to the right ACEGAD seems to have done undr the Gifford administration and the nation-wide decline of the Ahnslen Peoples Congress being sharply paralleled with the rise of the Ahnited Party.
  • 4 City Councils are currently without mayors, as a result of disqualifications. The Deputy Mayors are currently acting in the top job until the election.
  • 56 City Councils are currently run by the Independent Nationalists Party, however 22 have left the party - 11 independents, 4 to the Ahnslen People’s Congress, 3 to Ahnited and 4 to ACEGAD,
  • 59 City Councils are currently run by the Ahnslen People’s Congress, although 25 mayors - mostly in Anertah and Menindai as well as the adjacent areas have now switched to the Ahnslens United Party for this upcoming election. This leaves the APC as having 38 councils going into the election when accounting for the shifts from the Indenats.
  • ACEGAD have four new councils on their side, taking the number up to 56.
  • A record number of independent mayors - 14 (up from 3) - will contend for re-election in June.

Places to watch
AVEROW EAST
A small rural council in the southwest of the electorate, Averow East District Council regularly votes for candidates from the agrarian socialist/socially conservative contingent of the APC. However, they voted for the Independent Nationalists at the last election along with various others in the southern half of Arlanah. With a shift to the left from ACEGAD, an independent incumbent (having been one of the four leaving the Indenats party) and the presence of a new leftist party, this council may offer early results which will help work out if a majority will come out of this election.

ANERTAH AND SURROUNDS
With over thirty councils at stake, the city and the adjacent regions reliably vote for the Ahnslen Peoples Congress at every election with the odd ACEGAD council. At the last election, ACEGAD almost got to majority on the basis of city councils yet overwhelmingly supported Nate Wollins as Governor. If Wollins is to win this election, Anertah is crucial. If a party wins big in Anertah, it is a good sign for them at large - Menindai tends to swing the same way as southern Anertah as does the eastern Arlanah councils who remain largely influenced by Wesland.

DOMESTIC: Flight 417 memorial established in Arnton

ARNTON (AN) - This morning, Prime Minister Elliana Gifford was joined by Wesland Governor Hailes in Arnton’s northeastern suburbs as the two leaders opened the new memorial to those who lost their lives when Flight 417 crashed into waters near Thromsa on its way to Arnton. They were also joined by the Deputy Prime Minister of Hyukai, Mikael Aspen. The accident, now attributed to human error, occurred in late January and resulted in 189 Ahnslens being killed almost instantly as the aeroplane surged into the Eterna Sea.

The memorial, which replaces the temporary area established outside of Terminal Three of the airport, features a large sculpture of a man holding a young child’s hand with the two of them watching out onto the horizon in the direction of Hyukai. The words below it read “Gone, but never lost”, with the 189 names etched into plaques on walls surrounding the small pool which is directly in front of the sculpture.

Gifford and Hailes both offered some comments at the event, with the Prime Minister being the first to speak.

“We gather here today to once again remember and to acknowledge the ongoing experiences of the families and friends of the 189 people who we tragically lost earlier this year when Lacoa Flight 417 did not make it to the runways only metres away from us. As a nation, we mourn and grieve with the people whose lives have been so directly changed and challenged by this event.
On behalf of the Ahnslen people, I extend my deepest sympathies and say that we are here with you and that we are here for you.

Whilst I am unable to fully comprehend what such an experience is like, I do hope that this memorial becomes a place where we can join together aa people in solidarity with those most directly affected by the immense loss that has occurred.”

Governor Hailes also offered comments to a similar effect and sentiment to the Prime Minister. What is notable is that both speeches were completely absent on any call on the Hyukaian Government to further release information they have obtained about the accident or to Lacoa Airways to offer more compensation to the grieving families.

Also in attendance, the Deputy Prime Minister also offered short comments about the opening of the memorial.

"It is really sad that many innocent lives had to be taken away by a tragic accident. Today, we stand here to remember the departed. May they rest in peace."

Many questions remain unanswered which has added to the distress faced by those affected, says community advocate Redel Eranan who has been helping these people since the accident occured.

“It’s simply unacceptable. Someone has to know something - there has to be some kind of concealment happening here. We call on the Ahnslen Government to reveal anything they know about this. The words are nice, but the people I have been talking to want answers to pretty simple questions. If they don’t have the answers, surely the Hyukaian Government has them. They have been investigating this for months and if there is a cover-up, it is only a matter of time before it gets exposed.”

In a short aside, the Prime Minister did reveal that the Hyukaian Government were planning a similar memorial and that she would be in attendance when she receives word on when that will happen. Arendai also contacted the Ahnslen Government for a response to Mr Eranan’s comments, to which they offered the following statement.

“The crash of Lacoa Flight 417 remains a complex and difficult situation. We have endeavoured to relay all of the information we have received from the Hyukaian Government to the families affected by the accident and where possible we have informed the wider Ahnslen community too. Responsibility for investigation and to learn more about what happened rests with Hyukai as the lead investigators who have continued the work started by a number of governments as a part of the search and rescue operation which yielded little result. Since then, the Hyukaian Government has been undertaking the slow and arduous task of learning what happened that day. Whilst the Ahnslen Government remains open to answering questions and to offering what we know, specific inquiries such as this are most fruitful when directed towards the Hyukaian Government.”

Arendai has also contacted the Hyukaian Government, who offered a generic statement about the incident and offered no further information beyond what is publicly known.

La République de Loxodon (The Republic of Loxodon)

Earlier today at 6:44am, Loxodonian astronauts prepared for the first Loxodonian spaceflight in 10 years. The rocket's objective was to launch into space, release the comms sat into orbit and fly back to the planet. It is reported that the 3 astronauts manning the space rocket were more than ecstatic to do their job.

At around 10:49am, the rocket began launch, reaching for the skies as if it were a plane. Around 8 minutes into the flight, the astronauts had left the atmosphere, preparing their maneuverers for orbit. Orbit was achived with little fuel to spare, reportingly from the astronauts, the tanks were practically empty as the burns ended. The Probe was deposited, activated, and checked out. The initial job was done. The rocket decoupled it's orbital stage and began burns for re-entry. The astronaut capsule landed on the southern pole, floating slowly to the land. All astronauts were recovered successfully.

Our reporters got a few quotes from the mission leader and rocket captain Gerald Kerry. "As much as you'd think us astronauts would be all normal about entering space, we're not. I'm still excited from being weightless, almost like everything was just... let go".

DOMESTIC: Garver’s Ahnited given resounding victory in Arlanah

ANERTAH (AN) - The deadlock is broken in Arlanah. For the first time in over twenty years, a party has pulled through in Arlanah with a margin over 5%. Aurelia Garver’s Ahnited Party has been delivered a victory in the electorate which is as unexpected as it is encouraging to the broader movement across the nation. In an election which was sparked ultimately from concerns about corruption and illegality in a relatively young party, the Independent Nationalists Party. The Ahnslen People’s Congress’ coalition in the electorate was dismantled and a strong endorsement of the party rising slowly in its place has been given a strong endorsement.

However, many commentators have been cautious to call this a win for the party. Much of it has been attributed throughout the press in recent hours to Aurelia Garver, a young leader who rapidly has gained a following and popularity in the cities and towns of Arlanah. With the support of ACEGAD and STP preference flows, this was enough to take the party to the top. Late on Sunday night, the Ahnited leader and Governor-elect stepped up to deliver her maiden speech to the people.

“This is not my victory, nor is it my party’s victory. It is the people’s victory. They have chosen a youthful yet knowledgable team in Ahnited Arlanah to lead their community into a brighter tomorrow. I am humbled greatly by the trust the people of Arlanah have placed in me and my government-to-be and I will endeavour to deliver for you all. We must build an Arlanah that is a beacon to the rest of the nation - a part of Ainslie with a renewed and restored vigour, ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead. Arlanah is a region of Ainslie that refuses to give up its values and it is part of what makes this electorate such a great place and one I am honoured to work for.

Tomorrow, the job begins. We look to our universities, our schools, our healthcare system and our paddocks and farms - we look to how we can build a better future for everyone.”

Shortly after the speech, the vast majority of Arlanah’s booths had reported in for the night. Whilst counting has not yet been completed fully, these are the results we currently have.

Preferred Governor:
  • Nate Wollins (IND): 31%
  • Aurelia Garver (AU): 27%
  • Jerren Veradar (APC): 19%
  • Claire Deradi (ACEGAD): 13%
  • Tony Noren (IN): 5%

And here are the electoral delegate votes:

Two Party Preferred:
  • Aurelia Garver (AU): 58%
  • Nate Wollins (AU): 42%

And the council votes:
  • Ahnited (AU): 67 (+38% from last election, 42% from last week)
  • Ahnslen People’s Congress (APC): 48 (-6.2%)
  • Ahnslen Centrists for Economic Growth and Development (ACEGAD): 29 15.2%)
  • Independent Nationalists: 23 (12.9%) (Swing -18.6%)
  • Independents: 9 (5%)
  • Science & Technology Party: 1 (0%)

At this election, Arlanah showed its deep distress to the events of the past few months and its willingness for a fresh government. It has dethroned the Independent Nationalists as a kingmaker and displaced the APC Party as being the longstanding party of choice for Arlanites. It appears Garver’s Ahnited will deliver a new face at the very least, but time will tell as to whether the first Government run by this party will deliver for its community in a way previous have not.

DOMESTIC: PM Gifford announces new aerial firefighting fleet

ANERTAH (AN) - Prime Minister Gifford today at a press conference in the southern Arnton suburb of Narara announced six new aircraft - two planes and four helicopters - would form the Federal Government’s new aerial firefighting fleet. The announcement follows the slow acquisition over the past ten years of the craft and repurposing of them at the Fortitude factories in Port Blacken. It also marks another step in the expanding powers, responsibilities and capabilities of Ainslie’s peak federal emergency management - Emergency Responders Ainslie.

The aerial firefighting fleet will be based in Narara, under the watch of the ERA, but will be transferred and seconded for the purposes and uses of electoral governments where there is a need for further capabilities.

Charlie Endarin, the Director of the ERA, this morning insisted that the new aircraft under the agency’s control are not a replacement of existing arrangements.

“The firefighting aircraft we have acquired are not in the place of the various assets that the electoral governments have in their possession. Rather, this offers additional surge capacity for Ainslie in situations where either demand is coming from multiple electorates or where there is particularly widespread need from one electorate. As we all know, when particularly bad summers come around it takes the entire resources of the nation directed to one electorate or two. This step from the Federal Government, which we warmly welcome, will allow us to better offer support to the electorates, particularly in times of crisis or where there is complex fire situations.”

Governor Hailes, in a short statement to the media outside of Government House in Herriden, praised the Federal Government for their forward-thinking approach.

“We know all too well over decades, if not centuries, that Ainslie is a nation of extremes - of fire, flood and of drought. Here in Wesland we know all too well that if Governments do not stay on the forefront of emergency response, lives are at risk. We thank Prime Minister Gifford and the ERA for their commitment to be pioneers in this area, for the safety of all of us.”
The move also comes amidst reports that the effects of human-induced climate change will give rise to more dangerous and dynamic fire fronts, with an increased risk of pyrocumulonibus clouds - where fires create their own weather systems and lighting from them can spark fires on the dry ground.

Kari Tarlow, spokesperson for the Prime Minister, further clarified that whilst their core uses would be for firefighting that they would not be left to waste in seasons where the threat is not so severe.

“The helicopters have been designed to be particularly flexible, as have the planes. There are a number of uses for these, especially for the ERA such as supporting evacuation efforts or delivering supplies to isolated communities.”

Associate Professor Kedana of the University of Norlands suggested that the ERA is becoming yet another example of how the Ahnslen Government continues to expand its reach into areas which are traditionally the responsibilities of the electorates.

“Emergency management has always been an issue that is the focus of the electorates, and in particular the Electoral Council. The firefighting fleet we see today, whilst being a good idea, is merely a duplication of existing efforts of Electoral Governments who are able to do the good federalist work that the Electoral Council has been able to do for decades now. It is my hope that Gifford is not trying to disrupt that tradition.”

General election begins in Lesva

Polls open for the general election in Lesva to elect the composition of the Carto (legislature)

Image

Citizens of the Republic of Lesva are going to the polls to elect the composition of the Carto, the country’s legislature. The election is seeing many parties on the field of competition, but the current provisional ruling party is still standing out. That would be Throngist Movement Party of Lesva (TMPL), which is leading in the polls. This raises the chances of the incumbent acting officials like President Giva Tesin, Prime Minister Frei Jauca and Speaker of the Carto Visem Calbesu to remain in their positions even after the election. Right now, the polls are promising victory for TMPL with a clear majority in the Carto.
