"What do you find beautiful?" Alicia asked, tracing the outline of Allen's shoulder.

Lucas stopped his car at the side of the road and sighed, still holding her close.
"Listen," he said softly. "I understand this must be hardfor you to understand. But this happens over here, and Celeria does like to kill people it doesn't like. I'll try and keep you safe if I can, but I can't always guarantee it."

"I suppose," Alicia said. "I do feel a great deal of love for you, and our baby."

Alicia didn't exactly sound enthralled and " a great deal of love" didn't sound like much but Allen smiled nonetheless. "See? So why can't we go to my room where there's no death or pain?"

"This is normal here?" Scarlet asked, appalled.

"Farely," Lucas said, still hugging Scarlet. "It's OK...take as much time as it'll take for you to feel at ease."

"Fine fine," Alicia said, groaning and standing up.

"This place is awful." Scarlet whimpered.

"Not much really," Alicia said smiling.

"It's fine," Maria said, finishing her last burger. "But you will have to learn to fight very soon and very well."

"I'm not a murderer," Lucas said, shocked at her statement. "Those people joined my Clan for protection, and they were being fired on. It was my duty to return fire."

"Withholding isn't really your strong point though is it?" Alicia asked, smiling at him.

Maria considered what Connor had said and pushed her plates aside.
"Their's something I know you will be doing with me very soon," she said. "Unless you want one of those lovely-looking deserts?"

"Yes I did," Lucas said solemnly. "I don't enjoy shooting people, and I'm not proud of it...but I had to do it. And look at who opened fire first? Those legionaries were firing at people who, for whatever reason, were protesting with my flag. Incidentally, the same flag that, in case you didn't notice, is painted on the bonnet of this car."

"But who else do you have to withhold from?/" Alicia said, grinning.

"I don't feel comfortable with that," Lucas said, looking worried. "Their's no way I'm driving through all of that again, it'll be a suicide mission. I'll get you a drink to steady your nerves down, how does that sound?"

"You are enough of a reward for me," Alicia said softly, smiling at him.

"I don't know," Lucas said, restarting his car and heading out of the city. "It looks like it's about to get big. Really big. If you want to stay safe I'd recommend we head out into our strongest-held territory pretty quickly."

"Generally Roma!" Lucas growled, as the car joined the motorway. "I don't understand this. This is a totally unprovoked attack...I can only assume it's all over the city."
