If you imagine making private enterprise illegal eliminates exploitation, I am laughing at you. Capitalism, in conjunction with an effective system of laws meant to prevent coercion, fraud and harm, helps people to act in their own interests in a way which produces mutual benefit. If you work hard and respect your fellows, you profit. If not, then you don't.

In a Socialist system, on the other hand, you are told to slave away for no personal benefit, and given only what The Party decides you require, no matter how hard or how well you work. Socialism is honestly no less prone to abuse and exploitation than anything else. I would argue it is more prone on average. The larger and more powerful the government, the greater the corruption it attracts, a lesson freely available in any history book not doctored to suit a political agenda.

@SSgt. Briana Fallon, F.S.A. Not at all, but it is a very good place to start, and it certainly eradicates some of the fouler aspects of exploitation. Mutual cooperation between all aspects of the nation creates a steady drive towards particular goals, goals that benefit the nation as a whole.

In a socialist system, you are working for something greater than yourself, greater than an individual could ever hope to be. You are given what you need, so long as you are a useful part of the collective, and this prevents the rise of many other evils, such as envy. Of course, when someone in government falls prey to human nature, corruption, a manifestation of greed, can arise. However, when those in government are too strong to fall prey to human nature, corruption will be snuffed out before it can begin.

By making it illegal, all you accomplish is making the businesses and the whole process go underground, where legal protection against fraud, coercion, and other crimes becomes impossible.

Where do you think the Red Mafia came from? How do you think the bootleggers of the old U.S. got so powerful it took the American government decades to break them? How is it you imagine the international drug cartels have become so massive, and so massively rich on illicit drug sales?

Yes, something greater, or so the local Party boss assures you every day from the back of his chauffeured car, smoking fine cigars you can't even find in the stores available to you because they have been kept back for Loyal Party Members such as himself, and not you. The thing is, humans are not termites, and while they are willing to do some work in the name of a higher purpose, they don't believe in being forced to work constantly for no personal benefits, and getting the same for what they do as those who do less, or nothing.

If you want proof, look up the history of the colonies at Plymouth and Jamestown, both of which tried what we would today call Socialism early on, and nearly died off as a result.

On a related side note, Orwell's world famous books Animal Farm and 1984 are both required reading at several levels of rank, and several schools and courses in the Free States Military.

Of course, the people should know better, as the revolution is still within living memory and there are many who remember life before the establishment of the People's Republic. The efforts of both the people and the state to crack down on criminal enterprises have been largely successful.

Party members receive their due reward for service to the nation, as such people play an important role in the continuation of the collective. Humans may not be a naturally collectivist species, but we are not interested in what is natural. Humans have been creating things in defiance of nature for millennia, and it is about time we changed ourselves to match.

The two American colonies you speak of made a fatal mistake, they allowed the parasites to thrive and feast on the work of others. This is a mistake made by many, and as an early collectivist effort they cannot be blamed for making it. In Tianxia however, if you do not work, the statical not provide for you.

As for Orwell's works, they are an interesting look at the inevitable failure created by corruption. The problem with The Party in Nineteen Eighty-Four is that they were too obsessed with maintaining their power, to the extent where they would stop every form of progress in the fear that it would destroy them. Their desire for power is of course a manifestation of flawed humanity.

My congratulations were strictly in regards to the wedding in your future, darling. The law of which you speak is right out of the Dark Ages. It may be hard to be a Socialist in this country, but it is hardly illegal. We just tend to recognize idiocy when we see it staring at us directly.

Of course, we did have that attempted putsch some years ago in Peuerbach, but it fell flat. The locals broke out their duty rifles and had it under control within the day.
