For decades, Inyursta has been a country puzzling us all, especially considering its troubled history and quick rise to international prominence in 21st century, alongside it's regional neighbor Gran Cuscatlan. A country that less than 180 years ago was a colony of a foreign nation, ruthlessly plundered of it's resources by the British, went through the government of Solvereux to a republic led by famous anticommunist rebel Pierre De`Calero, through a series of republican governments since today. The remnants of the colonialist mentality is still searing the psyche of the Inyurstan population, which lives in a society being a direct descendant of the oppressive, hierarchical structure imposed by the British, French & Spanish. And within it, we have to look at the roots of the current homophobia gripping Inyurstan society.

Formally, homosexuals are afforded fully equal treatment, and on paper, Inyursta could be considered to be LGBTQ+ paradise. Gay marriage is not outlawed by the state, although it is rather the result of a specific "freedom culture" that has developed over the centuries as a response for repression by the colonial overlords. No law exists that forbids homosexual activity nor a law lists LGBT population as anything other than common citizens. Yet despite this, the situation of sexual minorities in Inyursta is pretty dark. People who are deemed unfit within their selfish model established by colonial-authoritarian culture are frequently targeted - as was, the famous case with a group of My Little Pony fans executed by an armed paramilitary group in 2015 for participation in a wedding ceremony with a horse. Their bodies were uncovered later after the criminal militia dumped them into a mass grave following the brutal murder using assault rifles. Despite the outcry of the international community, the perpetrators were never caught, and authorities simply ditched the case after no suspects were identified. In such situation, we may ask ourselves: Why, in a civilized society living in the 21st century, and after decades of progress and scientific advancements, people are still greatly persecuted just for loving people of the same gender, or even a horse, which is a living being?

The roots of Inyurstan oppression are to be searched in what Antonio Gramsci called "cultural dominance". The well-learned scholar, while researching the origins of World War II in light of Karl Marx's social theories, realized that in fact very few of the working class were interested in their own liberation, and inspired by this discovery, moved onto a quest to find the answer. His research led him to formulate the theory of "cultural hegemony". Realizing that capitalism was something far greater than just an economical system, Gramsci set out to describe the ways in which the dominance of a certain elite over the means of production influences the worldview of the population. "Cultural Hegemony" explained that the class that at the very moment controls the means of production, enforces it's own culture - and philosophical views - over the common people. In that way, they achieve dominance over the individual's set of believes, morals or worldview, further alienating him from his true self and sustaining the oppressive, unequal system. As Marx rightfully concluded, such "opium from the masses" prevents the people from realizing who they are, and thus, demanding their own rights. A method of mass deception allowing the descendants of conquistadors that once trampled the native population and now rule from Castille De Terro to create an invisible, and thus perfect, tyranny.

The way how this oppressive system deals with sexual minorities is the best way in which we could illustrate its inner workings. During the centuries of its existence, the Inyurstan language, descending from a mix of predominantly Spanish and French, spoken by various waves of colonialists, has never developed a proper term for a man loving his own gender. Even the basic term for homosexual - D'Homo (or D'Homa for women) - is contrasted by term Normále/normála, implying that loving one's gender is "not normal" and thus, in some way, deviant. This process has been moved even further in recent years, with "D`Homo" being replaced in common use by more vulgar terms such as "Pédé", implying that LGBT people are pedophiles, or "Maricóne", basically meaning "faggot".

The conquistadors from Castille del Terro have created a set of values centered around the concepts of "Machismé" and "Belísimé". Both of them, being an almost caricature portrayal of traditional gender roles characterized with La America Libre, are being aggressively promoted through TV, dance, music and other forms of entertainment. Assigned males are expected to be tough and physically fit while almost counter-intuitively following archaic codes of chivalry, while assigned females are expected to be tender, passive and beauty-obsessed. Meanwhile LGBTQ+ characters are virtually absent in media and their portrayal, especially in a positive role, is a topic of a cultural taboo strong enough to earn a term of "maricóne" and subsequently bring one's career to a ruin. Such was a case of a leftist-liberal actor Jorgé Vacas, who came out as bisexual in 2014 and has not appeared in a lead or major supporting role in any local film or television series since then.

The last, and the truly reinforcing factor in the system of a cultural hegemony of traditional ideals, is the religion. 89% of Inyurstan population adheres to some form of Christianity, and 72% of them actively practices their faith. Major forms of Christianity in Inyursta are still fundamentalist in nature, close to the roots of the Christian teachings. It is not uncommon for a pastor to rally his believers against the "evil of the modern western society". A sociologist Max Webber pointed out, Protestantism--and especially its work ethic--had an enormous influence over development of the ethic and spirit of capitalism. While far from it's Puritan origins, Inyurstan Christianity is a key factor to keep the capitalist system, providing a firm ideological basis for social control. Even though the state is officially secular, the role that religious ethic plays in the life of an average Inyurstan makes the true separation simply impossible.

This social system is, at this point, lacking any progressive force, or what Marx could call, "a revolutionary class", that could facilitate a social change. The US had people take the streets while being dissatisfied from the fact that an oppressive system was sending them to their own deaths at the hands of the Vietcong. At that time, the social capital of the American population was enormous, allowing true change to take place, and great thinkers like Herberts Marcuse to formulate the concept of "make love, not war". Inyurstan population has, however, unlike America those days, very low potential for change. Its oppressive structures are well-entrenched since the beginning of the colonial times, and recent push into a group of the "developed" states allowed the Inyurstan elite to slowly buy off its working class by delivering part of the wealth plundered by ruthless Inyurstan corporations from the poor nations such as Tirméno and Chuchara to the Inyurstan people. Resulting with an ever-growing middle class made no inclination to topple the system that uplifted them at the cost of hungry children in Bashriyya; and by current predictions, the whole Inyurstan society will soon accept values that once only the worst of the bourgeois held dear...

For any attempt at establishing a true worker's democracy in Inyursta, a long and meaningful change needs to take place. This change can not be won by bombs or bloody revolutions. As example of what Mahatma Gandhi shown, the British colonialist system can be only toppled by peace and love. First stage would be waking multiple Inyurstan minorities--the women, the homosexuals, the Indigenous Americans--to their true identity that has been alienated from them by the unjust system. The second element would be production of a gradual and meaningful social change in the mentality of Inyurstans--first, increase of appearance of minorities in the entertainment and their positive portrayal; then massive education campaign that would slowly normalize behaviors considered to be "not normal". Unfortunately, in a country where paramilitary violence is widespread and an accepted phenomena on a scale rivaling the "Wild Wild West", accelerated by mass gun ownership, such a solution does not seem to be probable as now.

We can only hope that the inevitable forces of history will crush the injustice and liberate the oppressed minorities.
