Raid on the Capital , Unknown Injured Individual Extracted

The war has been marked by the use of small raids on targets of opportunity, however, it has been relatively quiet in the capital, while it is believed several resistance cells have formed inside the capital itself, the Generalismo has claimed that these are simply groups of criminals to be hunted down. However, for the second time in recent history, the Capital was suddenly awoken by the sounds of explosions and gun fire. At approximately 3:00 AM, a firefight erupted near the river docks. Approximately 25 individuals, supposedly Navy Marine Raiders, were engaged by National Guard police while attempting to reach the docks, the ensuing fight was exceptionally brutal, with more than 150 national guard soldiers being killed, all with shot dead with exceptional accuracy, however, that was only the beginning of a more than two hour long running battle. The raiders boarded a series of navy patrol boats, disguised as fishing boats and cargo boats. The small warships departed as quickly as their engines could carry them, however, they did not escape unharassed, for the next two hours, the navy ships fought a running battle with various commandeered watercraft secured by the National Guard, and with their mounted guns, destroyed 16 of these vessels, and killed or injured 245 National Guard soldiers. It is not clear what the objective of this raid was, however, it is noted that an unknown individual was extracted out on a stretcher, seemingly badly wounded from a grenade explosion prior to being loaded onto a vessel. When they reached the mouth of the river, the pursuing boats were met with fire from the cruiser Ilarias, who opened fire with her main guns, the thundering booms of her main battery echoing for miles.

The Gaosa Gazette

The Return of the Empress!

14 March 2137
Gaosa, the Celestial Empire

Two years on from her departure from the capital and the empire, turning now, a widow once more, clad in white, and met by the cheers of tens of thousands in the streets of Gaosa was that most striking figure of our era, Marijani d’Aurelains, Mother of Empires. 44, the mother empress has now birthed four children, three sons and a single daughter between her two late husbands. Her reprieve from her grief following the death of her first husband, the late Emperor Andeja III has proven brief with the collapse of Nemidia and the loss of her second husband, Emperor Minixus.

Marijani is joined in her grief by her sister, Elisabeth, Duchess of Manchester who lost her own husband mere weeks before Marijani. The Aurelains Sisters however are far from being the powerhouses of politics their father, J.J. Aurelains made them to be. Elisabeth, 47, is mother to the heir of the greatest fortune in the empire, while Marijani is mother to the most powerful man in the world, the Celestial Emperor.

Despite the tragic circumstances of her return to Gaosa, Marijani, with her twin infant sons, Cyamus and Calix in tow, was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers from massive crowds, as, in the eyes of many, her return could not be better timed to save the empire from itself. For months now tensions have been high in the royal court amidst the prime minister’s dismissal of key ministers, the Duke of Alencon’s lackluster handing of the Saizon conflict, the departure of the Rohans from court, the imprisonment of lady Sophia Dreyfus, the pregnancy of Vaohangy Lota and the subsequent breakdown in the relationship between the Celestial Emperor and his sister.

These battle of wills have carved dangerous factions into the very heart of governance, further increasing the divide between urban Liberals and mainland Traditionaliat sand it was believed that no one had the strength to unite the nation before it found itself ripped apart. That is, until Marijani, the great mother who waged war and sowed peace across the Borean States, brought new territories into the empire and launched expeditions into the unknown continent, landed on Celestial shores.

Marijani has proven that rare figure in history, admired by her friends and foes alike, and has a reported popularity rate higher than even that of her own son. Though always previously seen as a liberal royal, in the face of the radical stances of Andeja IV, moderate traditionalists have flocked to Marijani, in hopes that she may course correct the empire from the extremist policies of the various court factions. For a truth is known. All shall listen to Mother Empress. Yet it remains to be seen if Marijani, having seen so much death and suffered such great losses, shall have the strength to be the savior we all hope her to be.

Battle for Ukarisa Begins

Image

In Verocusa, the city of Ukarisa is a point of vital importance, being home to the Jones Steel Recycling plant, and the future Iron refining plant, it is the source of the nations steel and iron. This makes the city of vital strategic importance, whomever controls the city has the means to continue supplying their forces with weaponry and equipment. This has clearly not been lost on the Generaliismo, as at 9:00 AM, a force of 8,000 National Guard soldiers began a large assault on the city, including a total of 35 artillery pieces. The assault initially went well, the relatively small force of 1,300 Duchal Guard Soldiers being forced back almost immediately by the enemies overwhelming numbers. However, things have taken a brutal turn, as local loyalist militiamen have joined the fight with whatever weapons they have on hand, bringing the attack to a near halt as brutal street to street city fighting began to set in, with the militiamen actually bringing with them a number of forklifts and tractors from nearby factories, and using them as improvised engineering vehicles to create makeshift fortifications and barricades.

However, despite these extra numbers, these militiamen are green, unexperienced and under equipped , leaving many to wonder just how long the city will hold out in an already brutal battle that has already claimed the lives of over a thousand on both sides

Daring Marine Raid Captures Fort Xavier

Everyones eyes have been on the city of Ukarisa, where the brutal street to street fighting has continued unabated for some time, with sightings of a new, homemade sub machine gun, likely made from sheets of recycled steel, in the hands of Duchal Guard soldiers, and the rattle of these submachine guns has more and more filled the city with their terrible song. However, with the spectacular and terrible battle raging over the crucial city, the Generalismo has been redirecting more forces to the city, leaving his attention soley on its capture. Clearly, this was not missed by those in the Duchal Navy, and at 6:00 AM, the coastal fort that protects the mouth of the Rejusia river, the river that runs through, deep into the countries heart, was rocked by a bombardment by two cruisers and two destroyers, towering columns of smoke, fire and debris filling the air. Shortly after wards, the sounds of gun fire followed, and units of the 3rd Marine Battalion stormed the now blown open gates of the old fort, and caught the defenders inside by almost complete surprise, with many being caught without weapons in hand. The resulting engagement was a massacre, with only twelve marines being killed, for the killing of 132 National Guard Soldiers, and the Capturing of another 234. The capture of this fort is an important step, as it gives the Navy almost complete control of the river delta, and a point from which to bring in reinforcements from the other islands of the duchy.

The Kingmaker’s War!

Liatsoa, Garandy
March, 2137

The blue and white banners of the infamous Lota Family, the wealthiest in Garandy, took to the waves as the armed ships apart of their escort merchant fleet left the harbor, southward bound for Verocusa. This of course, comes at the order of Nyantsa “the Kingmaker” Lota, who seems to wish to make her nickname a quite literal one. Known for wielding a power behind the scenes in Garandy, and placing her daughters Vaohangy and Hasanti Lota in high ranking positions in the prestigious Celestial Court, she had set her sights on Verocusa to restore Prince Javier to his rightful throne.

Known to dabble in ventures ranging from services on the Arsenal, to shipping to mercenary operations, and rumored more nefarious businesses, the Lota have long had their own private armed services, said to rival that of the state itself. It has now been deployed in force in the so called Kingmaker’s War. While not a state venture, the widespread popularity of Nyantsa Lota, and the promise of great reward has lead many to volunteer in order to aid in killing Carles Acaso and delivering his head to her.

An estimated 3,000 mercenaries bearing allegiance to the Lota Family are set to land in Verocusa while numerous light boats and ships have been spotted in the waters around the civil war torn island nation. Rumors float that Prince Javier, in search of allies, sought after the hand of Nyantsa’s eldest daughter, Vaohangy to help him regain his country and carry out a campaign of revenge. President Oumouri did not care to comment on this unprecedented act of what some say is filibustering with the Kingmaker waging a private war.

Birth of an Heir to the Throne!

March 25, 2137

The nation rejoiced as the Imaratian Royal Family welcomed the birth of a son and heir to the throne in the form of Crown Prince David Amadeus of Imarati. Queen Oruk gave birth to Crown Prince David at 10:12 in the morning at the Royal Palace, attended by her doctors, midwife, nd her mother and mother-in-law. The child was born hearty and healthy, much like his famously athletic father, King Alexis of Imarati.

The birth of a prince pushed David’s older sister, one year old Princess Darya down to second in line as Imarati follows male preference primogeniture. As heir apparent he is officially styled as Crown Prince of Imarati. Crown Prince David is the first great-grandson of Queen Louise of Genes. His christening is scheduled for May of this year.

Battle for Ukarisa Continues, Attempt to Encircle City Stopped by Gunboats

For more than a week now the Duchal Guard and Loyalist Militias have been locked in a brutal struggle for the city of Ukarisa, the once bustling city is now in ruins, with dark pillars of smoke towering over once proud buildings and smoke funnels. Rubble and craters fill the once beautiful city streets, and the sounds of bustling crowds has been replaced by the deafening echos and sounds of battle and war. The fighting has proven exceptionally brutal, with the defenders using every avenue that they can to defend the important mills that are the reason for this bloodbath. It has become a common occurance now for both sides to use Molotov cocktails and other improvised explosive and incendiary weapons, and the main assault on the steel plant has ground to a gruesome hault, with casualties appalling on both sides, with already more than a quarter of the cities original defenders dead, or wounded. However the city streets themselves have become simply a part of a much larger battle, as elements of National Guard infantry regiments have launched an attempted pincer strike on the outskirts, seemingly attempting to cross over the small river running through the city. The attack initially went well for the National Guard, even pushing the Loyalist militia units in those attack corridors back across the river, however, the attack was brought to a screeching hault by the actions of a group of improvised armed gunboats, small civilian craft with sheet steel bolted to them, and a singular OF-12 12 Pounder gun mounted to them. A particularly gruesome scene played out when a National Guard regiment attempted to push across a bridge, and was met by canister shot from one of the gunboats, tearing down an entire section of the regiment in a single shot, and sending the survivors falling back into cover.

This comes at the same time that the skirmishes along the Larasia River have escalated, and casualties on both sides have started to mount rapidly, with an estimated 11,000 Verocusan soldiers and civilians having already been killed or wounded.

Princess Alara gives birth to a Daughter

8 April 2137

Once again the King of Great Hyruke has welcomed the arrival of another grandchild, a fourth granddaughter as his daughter-in-law the Duchess of Rossendale gave birth to her third daughter and fourth child. Unlike her older sister, the Princess Alara, the new baby girl appears to arrived two weeks earlier than expected.

“She was in a hurry to get here,” Prince Charles, the child’s father told reporters. The Duchess of Rossendale unexpectedly began having contractions late last night was brought to bed at around midnight last night while the royal doctor was brought in. Several hours late at 3:45 am, the Duchess successfully delivered a daughter weighing eight pounds.

The new Princess’s birth and name was announced by plaque in front of Wattingham Palace, in which King Arthur announced he was pleased to announce the birth of a granddaughter through his eldest son, the Prince Royal, named Mary Anne Sophia Joan. The princess is entitled to be referred to as “Her Highness” and is currently fourth in line to the throne after her father, and two older sisters. Her older brother Arthur is thus pushed to fifth in line.

Princess Mary’s name has a been a matter of some speculation as it was rumored the Duchess of Rossendale and the late Queen Mary had gotten into a tiff over the naming of the former’s daughters, giving them largely Deritain names. It was said Queen Mary was most upset about Princess Alara not being named for her, and some believe that this may have contributed to her sudden death, and that this princess Mary is an attempt to reconcile with the late queen’s memory.

When one reporter said the naming was a great honor to the late queen, Prince Louis reportedly snapped back “an honor my mother would have enjoy much more if she were alive to see it.”

Indeed the late queen and the new princess seemed linked as the birth of a new female heir has raised the question of King Arthur’s potential remarriage. While it has long been expected that the throne would pass from Arthur to Charles and then to Charles’ daughter Caroline, this has only been because of the king’s lack of any daughters of his own.

Some have suggested that King Arthur take a new wife, though with the unspoken fact that should a daughter be born from that marriage, it would disinherit two generations of royals from his first. While pass the point of mourning, King Arthur has made no consideration of the possibility of remarrying. How times have changed before, and could the push for a king for female heir shake up the entire shape of the royal family?

Counter-Attack Turns Tide in Ukarisa , Prince Javier Makes Personal Visit

The Battle of Ukarisa has continued to rage, with the tide of the battle, and possibly the war, hanging on a razors edge the entire time. However, as another attack
by the tired and battered National Guard soldiers, the 14th Emergency Infantry Regiment, under the command of Major Kovez Moral, running low on ammunition and having been forced to call up what reserves that they had available, waited until the enemy had reached a point where they had last stopped in an earlier assault, and then, without warning, several smoke grenades, both purpose built and improvised, were thrown into the street, creating a thick, impenetrable cloud. Out of this, the sound of a whistle being blow was heard, and the Major gave the order to charge, and the entire regiment surged forward, and the sounds of submachine guns and rifles filled the air with a violent chatter, as, with bayonets fixed to the end of their guns, they rushed through the smoke, rubble and fire of the ravaged city street, and after a brief, and panicked exchange of fire from the enemy, made contact in hand to hand, catching the assailing Rebels completely by surprise, resulting a mass route, which was followed up by successive reactive attacks by nearby loyalist regiments, which managed to break the rebel line, and has forced the rebels to order a general retreat from the city to avoid being outflanked. As the battle ended, what had before been a deafening barrage of gun fire, had come to a deafening and eerie silence, with only the faint sound of fires, the rubble and plooms of smoke as evidence that the ferocious battle had been waged. While the exact number is not yet known, and given the fact some of the bodies have likely been reduced to nothing but ashes by the fires, or worse by rubble and buildings having collapsed on top of them, it likely never will. The casualties of the battle, that have been confirmed so far, stands at 6,450 loyalists, 4,120 of which have been killed, 1,800 wounded, and another 480 are missing, and are likely either prisoners of war, or their bodys have yet to be found. However the rebel tally is higher, with an estimated 12,000 casualties, of which 7,885 are confirmed to have been killed. However, it is not the damage to the rebel army that is most important, the breaking of the battle also frees of Ukarisa to provide weapons and supplies to loyalist forces everywhere, who have been desperately asking for the new emergency weapons that have been battle tested on the streets of Ukarisa.

This was not the end of news to come from Ukarisa, when later that day, Crown Prince Javier Haroza himself, walking on a crutch and his face covered in a bandage, made an appearance, and called Major Kovez, as well as his regiment, was assembled, where they were all handed the nations highest award, the Duchal Cross, for bravery and determination under fire. This showing confirms that the Prince was indeed rescued from the Capital during that fateful raid, however, another, more important message was sent by the prince in his personal visit to what is the site of the bloodiest battle of the war so far. He did so despite protests and discouragement from several senior members of command, including the Admiral himself. However, the Prince stated in response to this "These men and women are fighting and dying in my name, and for my right to hold the crown. I will not stay back on a ship, safe from danger while they put themselves in harms way.".

Rebels Launch Surprise Assault on Port of Yuria, Capture City and Hundreds of Prisoners

Image
Photograph of General Hernando Venez During His Time at the Duchal Academy

The story of the war so far has been one of relative success for Loyalist forces, despite the initial disaster at the Duchal Palace. However, this time, a very different story played out, when at very early dawn, Rebel forces under the command of a new general by the name of Hernando Venez, launched a surprise pincer assault on the important port city of Yuria, a major supply and operational hub for the Duchal Navy. Hernandos forces hit the Loyalist line hard, after having used the darkness of the very early morning to cover their approach until they were as close as possible, and not opening fire until the last moment, with initial surprise being so complete that Rebel soldiers initially started bayoneting loyalist militiamen and soldiers in their sleep. However, the morning quiet was finally broken when a Loyalist position finally spotted the encroaching soldiers, but by then it was too late. The fighting that broke out lasted three hours, but Rebel Forces had such an element of surprise that the resistance that they met was splintered and sporadic at best, and by late morning, the City had fallen and its garrison commander, out of fear of the entire unit being killed, had surrendered, along with small ships, including one destroyer, that were docked in port when the attack occurred. The rebels came away from the battle with only 74 total casualties, of which only twelve were killed, in return, they killed an estimated 340 Loyalists, Injured 120, and Captured another 650, along with 25 12-Pounder artillery pieces, and thousands of weapons, including the recently recieved stocks of submachine guns and emergency rifles. The general has gained a siginificant amount of praise from the people for his handling of the operation, as there were no civilian deaths as a result of his operation, and so far there are reports that he personnally ordered that the prisoners he took be treated well, and is quoted calling them fellow countrymen who picked the wrong side, rather than criminals or enemies.

Field Marshal Venez Institutes New Training Standards and Logistical System

Image
Soldier of the Rebel New Model Army, with new uniform and helmet

It has been a period of relative calm, with the exception of the occasional skirmish, it seems as if all has suddenly gone quiet, with some claiming a lack of supplies on both sides as a cause for the pause in the fighting, particularly in the Ukarisa region, where fighting has been the fiercest.

However, it has been no secret that the Rebel forces, despite their numerical advantage, have been severely lacking in both discipline and training. However, it would seem that Field Marshal Venez aims to tackle this problem.

The Field Marshal has put into effect new training standards, requiring all soldiers not in combat positions to undergo a minimum of two hours of physical training per day, and a minimum of six weeks training for all new recruits and enlisted, which has been followed by an issuing of a new call for volunteer career soldiers by the Field Marshal, with an inclusion of benefits including pay, medical benefits and a scholarship to attend university or college once they have completed their four year contract. These new standards are a stark contrast to the state of rebel forces previously, which were consisted of mostly untrained militia, composed of volunteers and former prison inmates, which is another issue the Field Marshal has addressed. Those who have committed violent crimes, such as rape or murder, have had their combat privileges revoked, and have been reassigned as logistical personnel, or even outright dismissed in extreme cases. However, those who have committed non-repetitive non-violent crimes, such as petty theft, have been offered an official pardon by the Generalismo himself, in exchange for an increased training regime and assignment to a classified new unit, known only by rumors as Night Raiders.

In a similar vein, the Field Marshal has ordered a change to logistical practices, particularly rations, food and medicine, and has mandated that each soldier be entitled to two fresh fruit a day, a can of fish, a can of grits and a pack of chewing gum. It is suspected that this has been in response to low morale among rebel forces in some areas following the recent defeat of rebel forces at Ukarisa. However there have been some questions as to how this would be afforded, and the Generalismo had an answer. The Generalismo would be tapping into the former gold and treasures of the royal family, including paintings, silverware and statues of non-Verocusan origin to help generate additional war funds. The Generalismo has also announced plans to allow humanitarian personnel into rebel controlled parts of the country, and has actively invited religious and non religious charity groups to enter the country.

Queen Louise’s loose lips loom Accidental Threat

Genes, Genes
May 9, 2137

Queen Louise was made to make a statement smoothing over a misunderstanding of dangerous proportions after an issue of wording lead some to believe that she wished to have Paras Kanatus of Patuania assassinated.

The Queen was speaking with the Count of Rapallo on the Borean League when the conversation drifted towards the age of the leaders of Borean states. Notably, Queen Louise’s own young grandson is the King of Imarati, and the Queen has previously expressed discontentment of the younger generation.

When speaking on the Paras, Rapallo sarcastically said, “even the terrifying Kanatus is not yet forty,” to which the Queen waved off saying “Not for long.” This was heard by several others and was interpreted as a threat, even an admission of a plot to kill Kanatus.

When this was brought up to the Queen later that evening, the seventy-four year old monarch was horrified, and quickly explained that she had been referring to the Paras’s upcoming 40th birthday in a matter of months, not seeking to have him murdered.

Numerous missive have been issued to Patuania in order to clear up the misunderstanding.

New Model Army Launches Offensive, Encircles Ukarisa

It has been all quiet on the front, as both sides have been resting and licking their wounds following the bloody beginning of the war, which has already left tens of thousands dead or wounded. It has been a question circulating rapidly of who would be the first to make the next move. Very early this morning, we got our answer, when forces under the personal command of Field Marshal Hernando Verez launched a night attack on the Loyalist from at two points, and with the element of surprise in the darkness, managed to breakthrough. They moved as fast as possible through the darkness, using new little artillery tractors to move heavy artillery faster than would normally be possible, giving Rebel forces on the move heavy fire support when needed, including a deadly new weapon, a series of 4.7 inch howitzers created from guns taken from the destroyer that had been captured in port. These guns were used to freighting affect when a Loyalist garrison put up strong resistance, only to be met with the massive explosions from 4.7 inch shells.

The Offensive has succeeded in cutting off the vital city of Ukarisa from other forces in the mainland, and now the question is how long can the city hold, if it can hold, until loyalist forces can relieve the city.

The Battle of Miusa Crossing and the Encirclement is Broken

Image
Duchal Guard soldiers during the brutal fighting

The ongoing siege of Ukarisa has been desperate for loyalist forces, the vital industrial city is still the primary source of supply, particularly weapons, for loyalist forces, holding the city is of critical importance, and for the rebels, taking it is just as important. With the recent disasters, Prince Javier had sacked the current commander of ground forces, and replaced him with a new officer, the newly minted General Ferdinand Cortez, a man who had been in the same Duchal Academy Class as his Rebel counterpart.

For some time it has seemed he would be taking a more defensive approach for time being, however, that theory has been all but crushed, as soon after taking command, General Cortez ordered the forces under his command into battle. The General launched a offensive, aimed at the toll rode known as Miusa Crossing, moving a force about 12,000 strong there. The fighting that erupted was almost immediately brutal, as General Verez quickly responded with his own defensive actions. For the next eight hours, Loyalist forces launched a series of brutal and costly attacks, being repulsed no fewer than six times, and suffering terribly each time. However General Cortez gave a simple order, break the rebel defenses, no matter the cost. On the final attack, a surprise strike came from the defenders of Ukarisa, threatening to pin General Verez between two pincers. Facing this situation, the rebel General ordered his forces to discontinue the siege and make a withdrawal to prevent an encirclement. The next two hours following this order were the most brutal fighting yet of the war, with smoke pillars being seen for miles. As the sun began to set, General Verez managed to slink away under the cover of darkness, despite efforts by General Cortez to prevent his escape, with at least one instance occurring where the two forces clashed at night, the sounds and lights of battle breaking the sounds of the night.

The total number of casualties of this brutal battle is not yet clear, as many of those killed have been left almost completely unrecognizable, however current estimates are approximately 14,000 dead or wounded on both sides.

The Gaosa Gazette

Andeja the Amorous, Alone?

1 June 2137
Gaosa, the Celestial Empire

It has been eight weeks since the marriage of the Celestial Emperor, Andeja IV to Safiya Hollande, the new empress consort, as well as the birth of two new children of the former by his former mistress, twins Philippa and Andeja de Volonte and their mother Vaohangy Lota. However it seems whatever grace period for either woman has ended. Vaohangy Lota has been escorted from the Celestial Empire, sailing back for her homeland of Garandy, from where her mother has been aiding the loyalist side in the Verocusan Civil War.

Mother Empress Marijani, agreed by all with eyes to see and heard to hear and a mind to think, to be the true ruler in the Celestial Empire has taken custody of the twins, who are set to be raised in the household of their great-great-grandfather, the elderly Duke of Aurelains. Meanwhile reports have sounded that Empress Safiya too is leaving Gaosa. The empress consort has yet to make any public appearances or even sizable waves in the Celestial Court. She has left for her hometown of Gante, where she is to serve as the new Governor of the Principality.

This has left Andeja alone in the capital, having lost his lover, his wife, as well as his best friend, Keoni Rohan who left late last year. The reduced court of Gaosa has been left gray, drab and some dare even say depressing. It has left some concerned over the future of the Celestial Court, which has thus far played a key role in the administration of the Celestial Empire.

Treaty of Caney

12 June 2137

After months of negotiation, an agreement has been finalized between the King of the Meyarines, King of Narumada and the Queen of Genes, forming and cementing the New Alliance, or Naya Alliance, one of mutual defense and support, lowering trading tariffs and exchanging royal brides. The treaty would see a set exchange rate between the Meyarieno segun and the Genoise derral, and formalize sea lanes between Kela, Otieba and Genes ports. The treaty of friendship and defense is set to increase the buying power of everyday Meyarienos and make a more competitive market for goods such as machinery, cosmetics, and hygiene products. There have been some concerns that the treaty will see Genoise cosmetics and Narumadan textiles, already famous around the continent, flood the Meyarines. However, King Jayas has argued that this is benefit that will encourage domestic innovation and lower consumer prices for everyday people.

Amongst the royals, two new matches have been agreed to: one between the widowed King Jayas and Princess Adela of Genes, sister of the King of Narumada; and another between Crown Prince Jayas, eldest son and heir of the king, and Princess Christina of Imarati & Genes, granddaughter of the Queen of Genes and sister of the King of Imarati. The marriages shall give the Meyarines a new queen, one of reported grace, intellect, and upstanding character, and a Crown Princess who shall bring in the next generation of the royal family into the world. A bride price for Adela of Genes has been agreed upon at 3 million derrals, while for Christina of Imarati & Genes, recently freed from a previous betrothal by the Treaty of Volya, regarded as amongst the most beautiful and prestigious princesses on the royal marriage market a bride price has been set at 6 million derrals. The great expense has caused some controversy.

The treaty is to go into effect on the 1st of July. A wedding date has not yet been set for either match. Adela of Genes is slated to arrive in the Meyarines within the week, while the Princess Christina is expected to arrive several weeks from now, having to travel from the distant mountain kingdom of her brother's court in Imarati.

Battle of Corasia, and Marines land at Viaza

It has been a very busy period in the war following the breaking of the encirclement of Ukarisa, as Field Marshal Verez ordered a withdrawal from the area to prevent his own forces encirclement and to protect his supply lines, howling a series of brutal raids from rough rider units of the Duchal Guard, which had begun striking supply caravans and convoys key to the Rebel war effort. However this led to a shortage of supplies within the rebel ranks, and as a result, a detachment of the NMA moved on the town of Corasia, in search of shoes and socks. However, they encounter an element of the 11th Mounted Dragons, and a battle ensued, with the rebels initially having the advantage, forcing the horsemen back to a ridge overlooking the town. However, miscomunition lead to this force being mistaken for a much larger force, and the Field Marshal ordered a large portion of his forces into the area. The Dragoons managed to hold off the initial elements, long enough for reinforcements to arrive in the form of the 8th and 9th Militia Infantry Regiments, which took up defensive positions and began doing whatever they could to hold off the rebel attack. For reasons unknown, the Field Marshal did not order an attack, perhaps to allow more of his forces to arrive. However, whatever reason for this decision, this allowed the battle to drag on into its second day, and gave the Duchal Guard precious time.

By the time the sun broke the following morning, over 8,000 loyalists troops were now on the ridge. The fighting that ensued following the Field Marshals order to attack was vicious, as the Field Marshal attempted to outflank his adversary, however quick actions by lower ranking officers thwarted this effort, and almost ended in disaster when a colonel in the 11th Militia Regiment ordered a bayonet charge after fending off three attacks, causing a route, and threatening to fold that entire flank. After a full six hours of fighting, the Field marshal ordered his forces to disengage, however the damage had already been done, as almost a quarter of the rebel forces deployed lay dead or wounded on the field.

However, this has not been the only event to unfolded, as nearly the same day as the fighting in Corasia began, the Duchal Navy orchestrated a large landing just to the north of the former capital, landing over a thousand marines, and successfully opening up a beachhead and capturing the small port of Viaza from rebel hands, and Loyalist ships have already begun arriving with militias from the other three islands of the Duchy. The war now stands at a crucial tipping point, where all it could take is a single crucial battle to bring whomever losses to the breaking point.

Loyalist Forces on the Offensive

Image

Following the brutal battle of Corasia, many expected that loyalist forces might take some time to lick their wounds and recuperate, giving the Rebels some measure of break from the onslaught. However, this was proven decisively wrong, when Loyalist forces crossed the Lorasia river under cover of darkness, with combat engineers building a series of small wooden bridges, and began a large general offensive along the river, and rebel units there collapsed almost immediately from the sudden application of extreme violence and pressure. Since then, Loyalist forces along that front have been pressing onward, with a series of small but brutal engagements being fought as they encountered pockets of rebel resistance. A pincer from that force has also begun attempting to cut off rebel forces currently withdrawing from the Ukarisa area, however, quick action by Field Marshal Verez has succesfully pulled a large portion of his remaining forces back towards the former duchal capital, where rebel volunteer units are establishing a series of fortified lines in a desperate attempt to hault the loyalist offensive.

As the war has now entered a new phase, there are those that now worry that the war may enter its bloodiest phase, and several have speculated that tens of thousands may perish in what is expected to potentially be a several month long siege of the capital, and the fighting will only get more brutal and desperate the farther into the city that Loyalist forces push.

The Garandaian Guardian

The Kingmaker’s Wound!

Liatsoa, Garandy
June, 2137

Nyantsa Lota returned to Garandy looking worse for war after four months of attending to and aiding the Loyalists forces in the ongoing Verocusan Civil War. It was a sad welcome, in stark contrast to the Grand departure of her private flotilla that had left months before. Nyantsa Lota was seen only briefly disembarking, declining to make any comments before hurrying into a town car to be taken to her home.

The sudden return comes after Prince Javier announced his break from the Lota Family and broke the engagement between himself and Nyantsa Lota’s eldest daughter, Vaohangy Lota. Vaohangy Lota has been centered in the media lately following the end of her relationship with Emperor Andeja IV and her exile from the Celestial Court where she and her sister served as ladies to the Princess Imperial, after giving birth to twins and her engagement to Prince Javier.

When asked about the matter, Vaohangy Lota gave no comment. Dr. Masina Ramambason, while stating that he has not worked with the Lotas, and if he had could not reveal personal details, did state that based off of her recent experiences and hollow interaction with the press, stated that in his personal opinion it is possible the Lota heiress is suffering from depression. It likely this is do in part to a postpartum condition.

It is not the Lotas alone feeling great sadness, as with the Kingmaker’s venture ended, so has her funding of mercenaries and bounty hunters, causing many Garandaians who had joined the fighting for payment to trickle back home, often with souvenirs such as combat trophies, collected items from Verocusan households and even several gathered arms from rebels. These truckers, weapons, and even body parts however have a melancholy sentiment attached to them.

Some however mark the return of the Lotas as one that was desperately amidst perennial rising tensions with neighboring Sajurania and the Grand Alliance. While President Oumouri made clear his intention to defend Garandy, many trust Nyantsa Lota to do so much more. This comes amidst rapidly falling approval ratings of President Oumouri. With the veteran Lota forces, there have even been some who wish to see Garandy go on the offensive, as to end the Sajuranian Threat once and for all.

Javier, A Warrior Prince?

As the brutal siege had begun to set in, many have expressed concerns about whether or not it would drag on for months, possibly even a year. However these concerns were quickly overshadowed by surprise, when something completely unexpected happened.

Crown Prince Javier Haroza, following his breaking of his engagement, and ending of his alliance with the Lota family, was given a list of casualties following the first few days of the siege. He was visibly seen shaking, whether from anger, horror or both is unclear, however what happened next shocked everyone. Crown Prince Javier put on a combat uniform and helmet, grabbed a submachine gun, ammunition and standard supplies for a soldier, and stated that he was heading for the frontline, and went regardless of the protests of his advisors. Shortly afterward, the unthinkable happened, during a vicious barrage from loyalist artillery which mixed in smoke shells with standard explosive shells, the Crown Prince personally lead a major loyalist assault on a rebel position, and his presence inspired the men that he lead, and despite taking heavy casualties, loyalist forces broke through the defensive line, and are now fighting their way into the outskirts of the Capital City, with the Prince himself somewhere in the city streets, fighting alongside the men that have been fighting to retake his throne, despite those expressing concern, the move has been incredibly popular amongst the troops and people, and has caused a rippling wave of high morale throughout the Duchal Guard, who seem apt to follow what they have now called their ‘Warrior Prince.’

Despite this, there are still plenty who express concern over this move, stating that it puts the existence of the Haroza family on the line, literally.

The Gaosa Gazette

The Iron Duke: One Last Time

1 July 2137
Gaosa, the Celestial Empire

A grief has taken hold of Gaosa in an unexpected outpouring as the Duke of Alencon, nicknamed the Iron Duke for his strength, extensive military career and strong leadership, left the city after announcing his retirement from politics. Born the second son of then Crown Prince Andeja, the Duke of Alencon has made a storied history of his lift as a warrior, a prince, an activist, a king, a revolutionary, an exile, an advisor, a prime minister, a regent and a mentor.

Though born to the splendid halls of the Palace of Ezikwizalo, the Duke took to the battlefield at age just seventeen, wining victory after victory. The same year he became the first ever openly gay Deritain royal, a symbol of progress for millions. Over the course of his career the Duke has fought for democratization in ond of the the most proudly autocratic states, standing at the forefront of liberalization and diversification.

In 2079 the Duke of Alencon was invited by the Mantaran people to be their king, during his short reign he preserved their independence, defend them from foreign invaders and immersed himself into their culture. He and his husband, Prince Adrian of Atmora & Wied adopted their son, Kaiko while in Mantara, and when volcanic eruptions saw the destruction of the country, the Duke aided in the relocation to the Hemaka Islands, where their culture still thrives to this day.

The Duke of Alencon has famously used all his palaces as refugee camp and housing for the homeless. His generosity saw him welcome tens of thousands of Makonian refugees onto his estate of Vaux le Viacomte in the 2080’s which greatly contributed to the modern mixed Makonian population in Aukusa City. He opened his door once again during the Great Collapse in the late 2090’s and recently to Lajaz Refugees over the last decade.

The Duke of Alencon’s radical views earned him the ire of his conservative grandfather and father, resulting in his exile from the Celestial Empire on the orders of Emperor Andeja I. The Duke and his family would spend twenty years in exile, traveling throughout the Southern Sea Isles and Genes, where the Duke aided those escaping religious persecution under King Frederick III.

In 2125, Emperor Andeja II welcomed his brother back to the Celestial Empire where again the Iron Duke sought to modernize and strength the empire. An advisor to his brother, the Duke’s intimidating stature, blunt demeanor and gruff attitude often but him in conflict with his traditionalist sister-in-law, Empress Amelie. Though referred to as a troublemaker, the Duke, placed in charge of Aukusa City saw the Bay Area thrive as the first city of the empire and the world.

In 2131, following the ascension of Emperor Andeja III and the bloody affair that followed, the Duke of Alencon was the moderate and level headed figure able to reconcile the empire with the crown. Appointed as prime minister, he over saw the laying of the first foundations of Gaosa, and the preservation of the rights of citizens in the special economic administrative areas of the Aukusa Bay Area and Oran, as well as Infinity. He brought back universal suffrage for nationwide elections for the premiership as well as granted cities and towns local democratic bodies.

Upon the sudden death of Andeja III, the Duke of Alencon controversially took the regency for Andeja IV, and though he maintained his liberal views, reactionary backlash and accusations of nepotism in the appointment of his sons to high positions saw his time as head of the empire challenged and waterlogged. A reported bad relationship between him and the Celestial Emperor had persisted, with the latter greatly disliking the Duke, and the Duke lost the 2135 election to incumbent Prime Minister Alexandra Hollande.

Despite this, the Duke has remained a fixture of government as a member of the Inama, serving as Minister of the Interior and as Head of Defense. The Duke himself personally lead the empire to victory in the Celestial-Riessan War. However with the increasing power of his old rivals the Hollande, it seems that was the Duke’s last hoorah. 75 years old, the Duke is by far the oldest member of the Inama, and has lived and served under five different emperors for 58 years.

In a somber ceremony to the tune of summer reign, the Celestial Emperor, the Mother Empress and the Inama and court bid goodbye to the Duke. Rising from the throne, the Celestial Emperor spoke rare kindnesses of the Duke:

“Though there are many who have disagreed with you, there are none who may that you have not worked and fought for the greater good of the empire, and the world in all that you have done. You have been an able advisor and voice for progress and change. You have been and are a faithful prince of the blood, and a most loyal citizen. Your wisdom shall be missed.”

The Celestial Emperor bestowed upon the Iron Duke first a the newly minted Medal of the Celestial Empire, an award given to those who have made the greatest significant achievements in service to the Empire. Next was surprising ad it is the first ever knighthood given in the Celestial Empire, with the creation of the Most Excellent Order of the Celestial Empire, of which Iron Duke was made Knight Grand Commander.

The Mother Empress herself, though somewhat harshly, spoke only: “You have served the empire well.”

The Duke of Alencon bowed and held his head high as he left the palace, the imperial band playing to his march. The Duke of Alencon has boarded a train to Aukusa City, where the city reportedly as their own retirement ceremony planned for him.

The Aukusan Times

The Iron Duke: the First Citizen

2 July 2137
Aukusa City, Aukusa Bay Area, the Celestial Empire

Thousands lined the streets in the city as the Duke of Alencon stepped off of the train from Gaosa today. The Duke of Alencon has long be a key figure in the history of the city, and is by some seem as a sort of founding father, beloved of his implementation and preservation of the democratic nature of the special administrative region. Many have lamented that with his departure, the one of the strongest voices of the city leaves the halls of power.

The Duke of Alencon, having prepared a speech on the train with the aid of Lord Jean Yoyo, addressed the public in regards to his decision to step down. While some expected a grace warning, or a denouncement of the Hollande traditionalist government, instead the Iron Duke’s words were reflective, wise and urged the nation not to move on from his, into the care of the next generation of leaders.

“Though, in reviewing the incidents of my administration, I am unconscious of intentional error, I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many errors. Even errors done in service to the people, the crown, and the empire. I shall also carry with me the hope that my country and people will these errors and the consequences of them with indulgence. And that after fifty eight years of my life dedicated to its service with an upright zeal that the faults of incompetent abilities will be consigned to oblivion.

As I myself must soon be to the mansions of rest, I look back and see the good that has been good and good that shall be done in care of those who work on once I’m gone. Younger, newer voices who shall help guide the way, and ever show the great favor of an empire of change. I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat, amongst families and friends, in which I promise myself to realize the sweet enjoyment of partaking in the midst of my fellow citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a imperial government of free citizens, the ever-favorite object of my heart. And the happy reward, as I trust of our mutual cares, labors, and dangers.

One last time, I shall embark on an adventure, that of going home.”

Stunned silence marked only with tears in the eyes of many punctuated the Duke of Alencon’s words. And from the silence action was taken as up and down the street, cleared for his route, as the Duke walked down the wide boulevard he made so famous, thousands of Aukusans began bowing and curtsying to him, a normalcy on the mainland, a rare and great sign of respect in the Bay Area.

The Duke bid Lord Yoyo goodbye, seeming some suspect passing the political torch on to him, was taken to the dedication ceremony of the new Alencon Park right on the harbor, a green space already in the making but decided to be dedicated to him after learning of his retirement. The park’s center piece is a 14 ft statue of the Duke, styled as the First Citizen, a reference to his insistence in the use of the term citizen rather than subject in the 2080’s during the city’s founding.

The Duke of Alencon along with his youngest son then made their way to he docks where they departed via ship for the Hemaka Islands.

GREEN FABUHAD WINS PRESIDENCY!/ فابهاد الأخضر يفوز بالرئاسة!

Alhajar, Fabuhad
Martyrs Square

It is an absolutely unprecedented day in Fabuhad as Fuaada al-Shafi has won the first election of the new Arab Republic of Fabuhad. This was the first election since the dissolution of the Caliphate and the birth of the Republic. Fuaada al-Shafi and her party, Green Fabuhad, has won a stunning victory after narrowly defeating the National Democratic Front in the final stage of the election. Fuaada al-Shafi started this campaign with a promise of exploring alternative energy, improving global relations and tackling climate change. This was not a message many had thought would reach the people of Fabuhad but many believe it was her delivery that escalated her position to popularity. A promise of finding new energy sources to compliment Fabuhadis large oil industry was seen positively by many in business and government who see the future as being not only a oil future but one with alternative fuels. She may have some of her work cut out for her as the National Democratic Front has won the Council of Representatives, securing a majority.

Fuaada has decided to make a smart decision by appointing NDF leader and political opponent Fazzal Damji to the Prime Minister position. Seeing as how the Council was won by the NDF this was a smart political manuver as it shows she is interested in cooperating with members of other political parties while still representing her own views and the views of her party. Her new plan is a simple three step plan of alternative energy subsidization, global clean energy diplomacy and improving local biodiversity and agriculture. We are excited to see what she can do for our nation and look towards a bright future for our young Republic. Goodnight to the people and the martyrs, blood and liberty.
