Magnus Variés wins Re-Election

Prime Minister Magnus Variés has won reelection, winning 56.6% of votes in the Nation wide election. Variés ran against the Duke of Maine, former Prime Minister of Derita for the third time in a row, as well as the third time for him to have won. The Duke received 28.6% of votes. A third candidate, Jean-Baptiste Jullien received 14.8% of votes. Many had questioned the outcome of the election, many expecting the new comer, Jullien to take office due to Variés and Maine both having already served twice in office. Variés however came out on top once again.

Lord Variés has promised to form a new Parlément for the King-Emperor to properly reflect the concerns of the country as well as vowing to continuing the reconstruction of the nation in these changing times.

Empress Josephine welcomes Co-Empress Maria Anna to the throne.

Image
Empress Josephine of Polonge

Empress Josephine, having ruled for nearly thirty years has decided with permission from Parliament to have her eldest daughter, Archduchess Maria Anna raised to the status of her co-ruler as Co-Empress. In raising the 37 year old Maria Anna to such an imperial position, the empress also announced that she shall sign a document of abdication on September 10, 2077, the 31rst anniversary of her Ascension to the throne in 2046. On that day, Maria Anna shall be elevated to the status of Empress.

This morning Archduchess Maria Anna, alongside her husband, Grand Duke John and their daughters, the sixteen year old Archduchess Maria Christina and the fifteen year old Archduchess Maria Amaila arrived in the capital after leaving the Grand Duchy of Ostrołęka yesterday. The Archduchess and the Grand Duke arrived at the Imperial Palace and meet with Empress Josephine and Archduke Joseph. The mother and daughter embraced one another while seated and then went off to visit the tomb of the late Emperor Consort Eugene, Grand Duke of Lorraine and paid their respects.

Following the two women's visit to the tomb, they arrived at Empress Josephine's office and in the presence of Prime Minister Schnee, signed a document officially ending Josephine's solo reign and making her co-ruler with Maria Anna. As such, Grand Duke John has been raised to the status of Emperor Consort and the young Maria Christina raised to the status of Heir Apparent.

Maria Anna, now co-empress was then in a few words, inaugurated as empress, though not officially coronated, as that date shall be saved until her mother's full abdication in 2077. She then was presented to the Imperial Family. In attendance were Maria Anna's fourteen other siblings, along with her four nieces and four nephews. While there, Empress Maria Anna appointed her younger sisters, Archduchess Maria Christina and Archduchess Maria Amaila (namesakes for Maria Anna's daughters) as Ambassadors to Atmora and Irav.

Following the celebration, Empress Josephine is said to have slipped away from the Imperial Palace, making her way out of the capital city and north the countryside city of Práh,home of the retired former Emperor Francis II and Empress Alanna. Many suspect this is the beginning of Joséphine's retirement from the world of politics until her abdication. Práh meanwhile seems to have become the retirement home of former monarchs.

States-General Elections Shake up Parties!

Anne Fredriksen (
@EdeWoude)
20 March 2077 | Amsterdam, Netherlands

As the State-General Election finishes up, the nation looks back on the changes that have taken place in the nation's legislative government.

In the House of Representatives, Reginten controlled (2069 - 2073) (2075-present, Hadel controlled (2073-2075) remains in the hands of the royalist party, but with major changes. The Reginten Party won 210 seats, but lost 82 seats. With the lost of so many seats, some suspect that by the next election in 2079 the Empress' Party may no longer control the nation. The Hadel Party, lead by former prime minister Frederick Noorden, won 44 seats, gaining dozens of new seats. They are followed by the Eigeelinate Party lead by Wim Hulleman, Representative of Utrecht won 39 seats, most notably the seat of Utrecht. Finally the Socialist Party, brought back by the youngest voters of the country and lead by Jolien van Aal-Demkes, Representative of Batavia won 7 seats.

However the greatest shock comes from North Holland, were the elderly Kasper Rozendom won election for the Hadel Party, just barely winning 51.7% of the votes before resigning and calling for a new vote. Rozendom resigned in order to serve as Queen's Commissioner for the next six years. Replacing Rozendom was West Asbury for the Hadel Party, Asbury switching parties.

In the Dutch Senate the Reginten Party won 65 seats, Hadel won 14, Eigeelinate won 3 and the Socialist Party won 18. Augustus Aucgate, former prime minister, has taken the position of President of the Senate, the first position in politics the Duke has held in four years. Senator Ellemieke van Wel from the Socialist Party has taken the position of vice president as leader of the second largest party in the upper house of the States-General.

Premiership Elections Begin!

As Prime Minister Magnus Variés' term comes to an end, he has announced that he has no intention of running for the office of prime minister for a fourth term. Variés won the office in 2066, 2070 and 2074 and has served as the second Prime Minister of Derita since 2067.
Several have described Variés' third term to be a great man's downfall and the sunset of the moderate Conservative Party, his failure to progress the domestic affair, his increasingly mixed Parlement, despite having crushed the Liberal Party in 2074, the failure to prevent the Duke of Troyues' assassination and most of all his being outshined by his deputy, the Duke of Mousçron. As of yet, no one from the Conservative Party has stepped forward to run. The liberals however have chosen Christopher Bélangzer, the 62 year old Minister of Justice, replacing the usual candidate, the former prime minister, the Duke of Maine.

End of the Joskaiote War!

Celebrations have swept over the capital city of Polonge, Bledapestra as Empress Maria Anna declared the end of the tense military conflict that has become known as the Joskaiote War, with her younger brother Grand Duke Joseph of Lorraine's capture and imprisonment in Kerc Monastery in eastern Polonge. The conflict came to an end with the Battle of Kutina and the lifting of the Siege of Villach. Maria Anna has announced plans for serious constitutional changes in the wake of the violence.

Empress Maria Anna however has spent her victory rewarding those who acted bravely and loyally in the serve of the empire. First she awarded Bakos Mihály and Anett Csatar the Military Merit Medal of the Empress, thanking them for excellent service as her generals. She then awarded Nickolaus von Hopfer and General Vaza Geza and Field Marshal Williem van Altena the Military Merit Cross, as well as giving the the honors of Knights of the Military Order of Maria Anna.

The Empress then gave Matthieu Borbon, an expeditionary commander in the Army, famed for being the young man who held Fort Gestade during the four month siege of Villach, successfully helping preventing an attack on the capital, making him a Commander of the Order of Francis II, awarding him the Bravery Medal of Polonge and making him a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

The Empress made a speech in the Bleda Palace from her throne room with her daughters Maria Christina and Maria Amalia, visiting Empress Anna Charlotte, Prime Minister Nickolaus von Hopfer and the Dukes and Duchesses of Cadiz and Malaga, saying:

"The Destiny of Polonge is a great one. We stand on the cusp of greatness, forever engraved in the tapestry of history as one of the greatest empires in the world. My brother, the Grand Duke of Lorraine, was misguided in his claim, but with his renouncement of his rights, we shall stand as a united empire. I wish only to be a great unifier for our empire. As the daughter of Empress Josephine, I was taught that the nation must not remain in an archaic slumber. Technology, advancements and innovation should be what drives a nation. And now I must tell you that for decades, we have remain set in our ways in a system that has become archaic. It was the pathetic rule of princes and bureaucrats scattered around the nation that allowed, no, caused the nation to fall into such chaos and disarray. It has taken me a war to just get the empire back on track. And there is no way I will allow it to slip back into the dark ages. As empress, I hereby make a new announcement to the world. The old Polonge is no more. The Allied States is here by disbanded, and the princes of the nation stripped of their power and have no authority. I hereby announce the Empire of Polonge. I shall continue to lead it into the future myself, bring about a new era of prosperity for my people. And let me assure my fellow world leaders of one thing. Anyone who dares to stand against us, who threatens to cross our borders and prevent our rise, will be met with the might of the Crown, and will be crushed."

Wedding of the Century
Crown Princess Maria Christina and Prince-Royal Matthieu are married!

Crown Princess Maria Christina and Matthieu, Grand Duke of Baranja have been pronounced husband and wife at Saint Stephan’s Basilica in Bledaoestra. The Crown Princess and Crown Prince , as they will now be known (also titled Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Baranja), made their vows in front of 8,450 guests and the eyes of the world.

All eyes were on the bride as she made her way towards the abbey. She showed few signs of nerves, smiling and waving at the crowds from her limousine and sat next to her uncle, Archduke Leopold, Grand Duke of Crisana. The bride opted for a gorgeous and regal creation by Elizabeth Percy, an A-line dress floor length off the shoulder lace sleeves, a swagged train and a fine veil of chantilly lace. According to Bleda Palace the dress "epitomises timeless craftsmanship by the best in the world for the best in the world".

Flanked by her sister and maid of honour, Archduchess Maria Amalia, who was wearing a long, cream silk gown, the bride was also accompanied by young bridesmaids Crown Princess Michelle of Poland, Tünde Papp, Princess Charlotte Josepha of Lüneburg, and Bernadette Szilágyi, and pageboys Prince Christopher de Condé and László Katona-András.

Matthieu stood next to his maternal cousin, Prince Jean, and as Maria Christina joined him at the altar he and the heir to the throne broke into a smile. Maria Christina’s mother, Empress Maria Anna, wearing a fitted blue-grey Kis Endrecoutfit, looked on with pride.

The wedding was recorded as the largest public Imperial event since Francis II’s coronation in the 2016 and the event with the most foreign dignitaries as guest ever in Polonge. Guests included eleven heads of states and monarchs outside of Polonge:

Empress Anna Charlotte of the Dutch-Empire,
Empress Katherine II of Atmora,
Kaiser Wilhelm III of Rhine-East Berlin,
Prince Regent André of Derita,
Primarch Eelco Harrevelts of Irav,
King Henrique II of Espana,
Queen Caroline of Great Hyruke,
Queen Adela of Genes,
Queen Marié Thérèsa of Naples,
King Infinity of Timeria
King Louis of Venise,
King Nicholas of Modensora,
and King Leopold I of Beliany

Other royals included Crown Princesses Autumn, Michelle, Juliana and Caroline and Crown Princes Jacques, Baudouin, Nicholas and François. Two prime ministers also attended, Lord Variés of Derita and Lord Rhodeste of Beliany. All of Maria Christina’s aunts and uncles and cousins attended, expect for the Grand Duke and Duchess of Lorraine. The same was true for Matthieu expect his uncle Leo III, his aunt Princess Maria Raphaela, his cousin King Luis II of Portugal.

The wedding ceremony passed without hitch, with the only moment of tension provided as Matthieu struggled to put the ring, the same one his mother, Empress Aubrey of the Royally United Provinces had worn, fashioned from Provite gold given to Matthieu by his grandfather, on his bride's finger.

After the vows Cardinal Kristóf Várádos, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Polonge, declared: "I pronounce that them be man and wife together, in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."

In a prayer, written by the couple for the occasion, they said: "God our father, we thank you for our families; for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage."
As the couple left Saint Stephen’s Basilica, the crowds, some of whom had been camping for days for the moment, erupted into a fresh wave of cheers as they climbed into state landau carriages for the horse-drawn procession to Bleda Palace.

The married couple waved at crowds as they passed the crowds via Parliament Square, Sandárplatoa, Fortess Domonkos and Saint Alanna Square. Despite fears of thundery showers, threatening grey skies produced no rain.

The couple joined the Empress who is giving a lunchtime reception at Bleda Palace for 650 guests, described by the palace as "a private gathering for guests drawn from the congregation who will represent the couple's official and private lives". Here they had their marriages blessed by former Emperor Francis II, former Empress Alanna and former Empress Josephine.

At just before 1:30 pm Matthieu and Maria Christina kissed for the first time in public on the balcony of Bleda Palace over looking the Danuj River. The fleeting embrace sent the already ecstatic crowds wild, and was repeated during a flypast.

After more than five minutes of waving to the crowds, the couple walked hand in hand back through the doors of the palace. Earlier, stepping on to the balcony, Matthieu appeared to gasp "Oh my" as the royal couple saw the tens of thousands of well-wishers lining Saint Alanna Square before being joined by members of their family.

The Empress of Polonge will give a private dinner, followed by dancing, for close friends and family.

Polongain Drone Strikes in west Estovakia!
Image

Szücs Benedek (@SBenedek)
17 March 2078 | Alexandria, Atmora

Anett Csatár spoke in a press conference today announcing the beginning of a campaign in west Estovakia in support of Atmoran forces in the Estovakian Civil War. General Csatár, recently appointed as Secretary of the Air Force, has ordered the attacking of a Estovakian city, Kisalu, just 27.7 miles from the border of Polonge on the coast. The attack saw 24 Fokos cruise missiles being fired on the city. Csatár has said that

"It is in the interest of empire that peace be maintained against the threat of this so calledFree Estovakian Army. The Republic of Estovakia can not be allowed to fall and we shall do whatever necessary to prevent this."

Some critics, including Alex Fekete, Speaker of the National Assembly has taken a cynical view of the actions of the military. A moderate from the Javulo Party, headed by Prime Minister von Hopfer, Speaker Fekete has gone as far to question if Polonge should involve itself with their eastern neighbor and yet another armed conflict so soon after the end of the Joskaiote War internally. Speaker Fekete stated that if Maria Anna launches airstrikes on Estovakia, it will not be long before she marches an army in as well.

Fifth Army marching into Western Estovakia

March 21, 2078

General Bakos Mihály, General Renátó Lakatos and General Vasa Géza marched the Fifth Army, Fourth Army and Third Army of Polonge across the border into Estovakia, capturing the city of Kisalu, a city that had been bombarded by air strikes only days ago. There had been threats of invasion of Estovakia since early this month following the beginning of an air strike campaign by Atmora. The invasion force of 540,000, including 300,000 veterans of the Joskaiote war swiftly marched through the grassy knoll plains of the western region of the country. Following the capture Kisalu, Prime Minister Nickolaus von Hopfer made a statement in Bledapestra.

“Estovakia is a nation facing many struggles and has become an unstable section in the region and it has become our duty to intervene. Despite earlier reports, we are not fully supporting the military junta that has taken root in Estovakia. Nor shall we support the actions of the so called Free Estovakian Army. The FEA has a reasonable goal and while democracy is a righteous cause, it is not an infallible one. Acts of terrorism will not be tolerated. It is the duty of Polonge to stabilize the Republic of Estovakia, through whatever means necessary.

As the 3rd, 4th and 5th Armies of Polonge march on Novigrad, Anett Csatar has up the airstrikes on Estovakia, aiming most of her drone attacks on the capital of Estovakia itself, Novigrad. Supposedly the 5th Army has annihilated any civilian resistance it has come in contact with, its overwhelming size and force cutting a path through the countryside and destroying and everything its path that threaten to stop the goal of a stabilized Estovakia. The continuous bombardment of the city has seen over 134 ALCMs striking the capital while dozens of other smaller strikes pepper much of the the western part of the country. In Ploce, Commodore Aloysius Héroux has ordered an amphibious assault landing, with 15,000 landing on one of the closer peninsulas of Estovakia on Lake Royva, the transboundary lake that sits between Polonge and Estovakia. Meanwhile 15,500 more troops are expected to hand near Novigrad within 48 hours.

News from Berlin yesterday left many curious about international and inter-royal relations today.

Kaiser Wilhelm III of Rhine-East Berlin announced his engagement to Princess Marianne of the Netherlands, the posthumous daughter of King Willem-Alexander II, who went mad and eventually died in 2059, just months before Anna Charlotte ascended the throne. The birth of Prince Alexandre and Princess Marianne from Queen Dowager Alexandrine has left many wondering about the succession.

Prince Jean, the second son of the Empress and third-in-line to the throne, acted as a representative for the Crown today, stating that while Alexandre and Marianne are recognized as heirs to the throne, the family of the reigning monarch takes president over them. Anna Charlotte, according to her son, “Is happy to see Marianne become Empress Consort of Rhône-East Berlin” and “looks forward for the wedding.”

The tour and opening of the Musée Pinchon ended with a speech by the Duke of Normandy.

“The Celestial Empire has for centuries been the heart of the world. We are the cradle of humanity. It was in Derita that the first humans were discovered before spreading out to the rest of the world. It is in Derita that the Garden of Eden is located. For centuries we have been the mind of the world, achieving great discoveries that have taken the world by storm. From cameras to separation of powers. From freedom of speech to radioactive and nuclear technology. From La Joconde to La Nuit Étoilée. From mathematics to philosophy. The greatest painters, writers, scientists, philosophers have all called Derita home. And as other nations and people look for the far flung empires, Derita has been wiser, consolidating knowledge. The Library of Aindrupalla is more extensive than any other in the known galaxy. The halls of Fontainebleau and Auxerre hold more artifacts than any other nation. The Celestial Empire has always been a place for learning, for knowledge, for expression. I hope to continue and amplify this belief. The Celestial Empire has some of the finest riches in the known world. It is our duty to use such riches to better the world, the universe. This museum is a temple, honoring the thousands of Deritains who have imposed the world their work. Not simply because they wore a crown or had some elected office, but because they strove for the betterment and furthering of humanity. And that shall be our legacy. May our knowledge and art always be the greatest treasure of the Celestial Empire.”

The seven clans, Kinjo, Tada, Fujikawa, Harada, Maki, Chigusa and Dokura have been fighting among the selves in the Asakura Isles for nearly eleven years, each clan controlling little more that one area of the nation and gaining very little over the years. The chaos caused lefties thousands dead. Finally, Prince Natsuo sought to bring peace to his land and sent Ishikawa Tokaji to Fontainebleau to request aid from the Celestial Empire in the matter.

In a rare act of interventionism, Prince Régent André agreed to help the Kinjo Clan and bring peace to the isles.

Prime Minister Nickolaus von Hopfer has ended the national enforced curfew, a national policy that was put into place since late 2077 shortly before the outbreak of the Joskaiote War. Hopfer has decided that the curfew has become more of a struggle rather than a useful tool and is no longer needed.
