Aucgate seizes the Canal!

Prime Minister Aucgate has in a swift and striking move has launched Operation Anglerfish, invading the country of Gran Gregana and seizing control of parts of the Gran Colombiana Canal in the northern part of the country. Prime Minister Aucgate sent Minister of War and Grand Admiral Lord Nagel to personally lead the occupation of the Canal. Two aircraft carriers as well as several corvettes and auxiliary ships have been moved into place, taking control of the northern half of the Canal. Lord Nagel has reported that some 35,000 soldiers, taken from the Army and Naval bases in Bonaire to hold the occupied zone, a corridor extending from the Caribbean Sea to the city of Corridogana, 37 miles in land and 12 miles wide. In the port city of Uniqya, the Dutch flag has been raised. Lord Aucgate and Lord Nagel have also approved of systematic bombings over the yet unoccupied areas around the Canal in order to prevent further dground fighting. Prime Minister Aucgate has explained that the Dutch felt the duty to seize control of the Canal due to the unrest in Gran Gregana's capital as several members of the government have launched a coup. Though it has not been directly stated, one can assume that Prime Minister Aucgate is suggesting the Dutch side with Supreme Commander Jans Carátula over the so called provisional government in Elizabethstad.

Acting President Gerrugana Condemns Dutch Attack

Following the illegal attack against the Gran Colombiana Canal, acting President Gerrugana has held a brief conference in which he spoke on the situation at hand. His statement was as follows:

This... terrible... and in-unprecedented, This illegal act, is quite shocking to me. Dutch Prime Minister Aucgate, is a political monster. His actions are, are terribly impolite and we shall not stand for it. We, we shall... fight with cigar, uh, vigour, and we shall not be defeated!... by these... oppressors of liberty. That is all for now.

Most have deemed Acting President Gerrugana's statement as 'a great fumbling mess' and his popularity has dramatically dropped. As far as we know at the moment, Supreme Commander Carátula is in league with the Dutch over the affair with the Canal.

State Visit Announced
Today in a unprecedented decision, King Larx has announced that he and Queen Jacklyn are planning on a visit to the Deritan Empire, saying that keeping good relations with our Deritan Neighbors is essential to the continuing stability of europe. In light of the recent invasion of Gran Gregana by the Dutch, it is possible the King plans to negotiate a deal with the Deritan Emperor. This comes immediately after a bill in parliament to further increase funds to the armed forces, especially the navy, which has stated that a new carrier and two new cruisers are coming very close to joining the fleet, as well as the addition of thirty new combat aircraft, especially new combat drones.

Meanwhile the king did have this to say to the Dutch

"In a world so easily destabilized, especially in such a region as South America, the actions taken by the Dutch do not help to stabilize the region, but rather add fuel to the flames. The Dutch have entered a conflict that was relatively contained and turned it into a global affair. While neither side was particularly preferable, the Dutch obviously care very little, if at all, for the well being and safety of the citizens of Gran Gregana, choosing to bomb the areas they have not occupied to rubble. This obvious crime is disrespectful to civilians at best, and a downright war crime at worst. The Dutch Prime Minister has shown that not only is he willing to risk destabilizing a region already as shaky as it can be, but he will do so to exploit the situation without a second though for anyone else involved, the IU needs to step up and take action, least the Dutch see this as an opportunity to perform such actions elsewhere."

President Arink defends Dutch intervention in Gran Gregana

Eldert Arink, the Dutch President of the International Union has faced his first real crisis since he took office in January of 2070 and he has, as reporters say, exploded with anger over King Larx's outrageous claim that the Dutch are dangerous towards the stability of South America. The Dutch are the best! The absolute best! They are the best, trust me. We really are. Aucgate never hurt no body. Besides, you think that you are all so innocent? You think you don't have skeletons in your closets! You do. I know. We all know. Our friends, we the Dutch are great and we are making Gran Gregana great again. They weren't great. A Speech in Parliament

With the statement by IU president Eldert Arinik, Parliament was, quote, amused by the biased statement. Foreign Minister Vasily Harkonik gave a pretty thorough criticism of the Dutch IU President.

"The statement made by the IU president, at best, is heavily biased towards the Dutch prime minister. If he has committed no wrongs in Gran Gregana, then please tell my, why take the Canal and ONLY the Canal? Taking control of the canal would clearly be of huge benefit to the Dutch, and would seriously hamper the economy of Gran Gregana. The force we have deployed to Gran Gregana has done what we stated it would do, they have not intervened, and are preparing to leave as we speak. But what of your prime minister? Will the Dutch leave Gran Gregana alone once the war ends, or will you attempt to turn Gran Gregana into a Dutch colony. "

Parliament has stated that they will be watching the situation very closely, including the deployment of several unmanned aircraft to the area to keep watch over Dutch operations in the area.

Joy Turns to Tragedy

Today the commenwealth is in mourning, while the day started out joyful, with the birth of Princess Lucia, who ideas a perfectly healthy baby girl. However soon after the health of Queen Jacklyn began to decline rapidly. Despite the best efforts of doctors, the Queen soon passed away, leaving King Larx crying, still holding her hand. Despite her short reign, Queen Jacklyn was deeply admired and respected through the commenwealth, and not a single banner doesn't stand anywhere but halfpost. We all will miss the queen and hope that she is in a better place.

Consul LeCastle Resigns, Wayland takes Office

Shortly after lunch today, the 105 year old Jonathan LeCastle, Consul of the Amperiale Alliance resigned upon the advise of his doctors and Josiah Wayland and West Asbury, former candidates for the office of Consul. Having held office for eight months, LeCastle had suffered from five heart attacks and has been near bed ridden for the last month. While reports say that the elderly Deritain statesman is recovering currently, he has decided to end his term in office in order to better serve the Alliance and allow a man of the younger generation take the reins of the Alliance, and that man is Josiah Wayland.

Consul Wayland, a former member of the Prussian Reichstag, former ambassador to Great Hyruke and then Derita, as well as former Consul of the CDV and active statesman, has made no announcements yet, but states that he shall lead the Alliance to insure their strength and power in the world.

Amperiale Alliance Controversy

Chancellor Gabrielle Tousart has today challenged the legitimacy of the Amperiale Alliance, questioning how much power members really have to make democratic decisions after the recent replacement of Consul Jonathan LeCastle with Josiah Wayland.

"Elections for a new Consul ought to be organized as soon as possible." said the elected leader of the Swiss Confederation. "It would set a dangerous precedent for the future of European co-operation if this was to become an acceptable method of handing over and transferring power and control. Yes, Wayland has been a candidate in the past, but the Amperiale Alliance concerns the present and the future of our nations, and so we should look to those who announce their candidacy in the here and now and make a choice between them." she explained.

It is unclear whether Tousart's statement is representative of a Swiss mistrust concerning other powers. "We've had rocky times in recent history and it's not an easy road to feeling secure that we have an entirely peaceful and beneficial co-existence with our foreign neighbours." clarified Aurelia MacDonald.

Pantellria removes Jacques from Succession!

Prime Minister Pantellria, after getting approval by the 51st Congress of Espana and the Supreme State Court went around King Henrique II and removed his eldest son as well as his second eldest son Princes Jacques and Jean on the grounds that they were born bastards and therefore could never succeed the throne. He however amended that since their daughters, Jacques's daughter Princess Juliana and Jean's daughter Adela, were born when they were legally legitimate they could still inherit the throne, taking the place of first and second-in-line to the throne. While some suspect that this was an act by Pantellria to keep the throne from the sodomite and divorced Jacques and his new husband, the very unpopular sodomite West Asbury. While Pantellria is being hailed as a hero by most, some key supporters of the Royal Family are calling for his removal from office early. Meanwhile once can only hope that the one year old Crown Princess shall be able to succeed where her father has failed.

The Rise of Rock?
This years Balkan Rebellion , which saw over 12 million people attend, has recently been followed by an increasing popularity of rock and heavy metal music within the commenwealth. The music, helped by the rise of several bands which have broken several local records with albums, has even begun to push deritan music out of the country, as sales of imported albums has dropppef by almost sixty percent. This has also seen a boom in the sale of guitars, drum sets and other instruments used by rock bands across the country. While it is not certain how long this will last, many have expressed that it would be a very welcome upheaval of the Balkan culture, especially with the constant encroachment of the deritan culture. However there a few in the upper class who say that the country should be trying to fall in line with the rest of europe, rather than build its own path culturally. Despite these few protests both Parliament and the King have stated that the new musical upheaval will receive full encouragement.

A family again

Today Sarajevo was met with a pleasant surprise, when King Larx, while at a dinner with Princess Elizabeth of Hyruke, when he dropped to one knee and presented her with an engagement ring. This is a great surprise to us, as traditionally marriage was reserved for only the closest of loves. We all have very high hopes for the new couple, and we give our congratulations to the King.

In a press conference, spokesman and chairperson for the Council of Planetary Defense announced that a portion of the Serian Vanguard fleet will be imposing taxes on all ships that are owned by non-allies a fee for leaving the planet. Failure to do so, according to the General, will result in "Serious and extreme action". These actions have been likened to firing on ships that attempt to leave orbit without proper permission or immediate boarding and confiscation of the craft. When further asked for a statement, General Apollion had this to say:

"Unified Sera is at an interesting position these days, we have one of, if not the most powerful space faring navy on the planet.
We have the power to impose this tax, and back up our words with sheer might. The tax itself isn't anything too crazy, and in all honesty other countries who aren't aligned with Sera would be better off just paying it instead of losing a ship because they wanted to make a political statement. Moreover, it'll force political and diplomatic discussions with countries who have no tie to Sera, and that among all things,
will help bring the world one step closer to a world government. I personally support this move, and while to some it may seem extreme,
but such extremes must be taken to protect Serian space sovereignty, and to bring about world peace. Besides, the tax will stimulate the Serian economy, which is always a good thing."

In her first personal press conference of the year, President Abigail Harrington exploded with harsh brutal anger against the Serian government over their imposing of a tax on ships leaving the planet. The Ofrania Space Navy is currently being funded and built with only a single ship and two due to be completed next year, but President Harrington has made it quite clear that this is an action of imperialistic despots and she won't tolerate it.

"I am appalled and disgusted by this outrageous grab of power by the Serian Government. Ever since King Akira ascended the throne, thet as a nation have become violent and imperialistic, much of the way of the failure that was the FDC. We will not stand for this. We shall not be bullied into alliances and taxes. I am not a subject of Sera, and you aren't a subject of Sera. Why should we pay taxes to King Akira's coeffers? We won't be made to negotiate. The few democratic nations that remain, we must starve out these imperialistic ambitions that so plague our world. Be must deprive Sera of their bullying strength, suffocate them while their aggressive nature is still in their crib. And I intend to do so. Brutally."

Princess Elizabeth, the new fiancée of King Larx, was seen flaunting her engagement ring in Sarajevo alongside her sister, Princess Catherine. Surprisingly not with them was their older sisters and usual companion when they come together, Empress Charlotte of Connuriste. Princess Elizabeth has expressed great happiness with her engagement and even made the comment

"I know what I want, and I won't be entering my marriage with a spilt heart. It belongs only to Larx"

The comment, although brief, has been met with defensive outrageous and shock and awe as it has been seen as a direct jab at Elizabeth's older siblings, especially Charlotte and her brother Leopold who have had an unsteady and exciting marriages, Charlotte after all being practically estranged from her husband and Leopold still supposedly fearful of his ex-lover's wrath.

Could the younger Elizabeth be finally separating herself from the tragedy, scandal, heartache and violence of her older siblings and parents? Or will instead Elizabeth be struck by the Dreyfus Family love curse?

Queen Katherine Ana proposes Serbian-Serian Alliance

The cronically depressed and widowed Queen Katherine Ana has surprisingly turned away from her poems of death and the loss of love and life, away from her dark paintings that line the palace and has turned to foreign politics. The Queen has proposed that, in order to better Serbia's standing in the world, that she enter an alliance with the United Sera Goverment, going as far as to suggest that she herself meet in Sera with King Akira. While this does lind up with the Seran imposed tax issue, which sent President Harrington of Oceania into a blind rage, many suspect that there may be more than meets the eye to this offer.

Connuriste today said it would pay the Serian tax imposed on interstellar travel, Chancellor Tousart citing that 'it is a reasonable price to pay to avoid large-scale conflict'. The Connuriste Space Agency is one of the world's largest remaining space fleets after the fall of the Atmoran, Iravian and Timerian nations, but it does not seek to challenge any of its counterparts. It is hoped that this willingness to co-operate will help foster some ties with the Serian government, although the CSA seeks to expand its military fleet nonetheless.

Financial Minister Aurelia MacDonald was available for comment, but all she had to say was that 'Connuriste is in its best financial position for a decade' and that the tax is 'certainly affordable'. Some have even said that it hardly dents the national budget - state expenditure has not been so high in peacetime since the 2020's, but government income hasn't been so high in the entire history of Connuriste. No-one really knows what MacDonald has done to facilitate this growth, but it appears to be a talent that runs in the family.
