Sorry, but Finland and Sweden are both already claimed by another player. His claim is Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and some RUssian provines. So I dont think there is any area left up there for a claim :/

Okay, a thread I/we will keep on top of. The Discussion Thread will remain active, and applications already made here can chunner on if we like. I'm not sure if we can have threads locked given that OPs may not be available. I mean, can we have this thread locked without Spyr asking for it to be so? I don't know.

I believe the moderators can make executive decisions on whether or not a topic can be locked by the active participants of the community. Obviously, we are a bunch of misanthropic malcontents but we aren't malicious in our request.

I do believe I'll repost my app to that thread. Just cause, you know.

In the most utilitarian sense: exactly!

Perhaps we can decide how, in modernity, we view each other? Is there a 'Special Relationship' of former colonizer and colony? Alternatively, there could be a grudging animosity between two cultures which haven't yet forgiven each other for past indemnities. It really is up to you. *tips hat*

My claim has some diversity, but is mostly Christian (Catholic, and Lpqic Orthodox; a type of Oriental Orthodox church). Not to mention extremely devoted to purging true heretics.

Though my history certainly incorporates some temporary conquests by the Omayyad (or whatever spelling suits your whim), we can both assume that Islam spread itself more benignly in AMW culture. Perhaps, instead of by the sword, Islam is spread through North Africa to West Africa along trade routes à la the Indian Ocean. Erythraei grows up, finds that Roman trade with India is so completely passe, and instead writes about the beauty of vibrant gold, salt and slaves the 'Niegars.'

Okay.

So, there is the old Nieger Empire, all happy in South Africa 1000-BC ish, shit flies with the local tribes, dark age (where's the light switch?!) and 1600 years later, 600 A.D, the Erythraei conquer us. Nieger empire gets enslaved, etc. etc. and becomes a large Erythraei trading post, until their army moves out of the area because it's a hard place to control, because the area is historically violent with all of the different tribes. So the Erythraei leave, officially, but there is still trade with Southern areas of the old Nieger Empire and there is a strong Erythraei military prescence in these areas. This goes on for a few hundred years, but warbands start to arise in the North, causing havoc and plunging the whole area into another Dark Age circa 1100. The Erythraei leave for good in 1130, and for 300 years the area regresses back to a tribal state. Over these 300 years, Islam became more predomenant in the region until, in 1430, the Ghamadulla Khanate, a large, wealthy family who controls a strong Islamic social group in Southern Algeria, breaks off from the Erythraei. These people, about 4,000 of them, migrate South as colonists in Mali and Niger. The large, warlike warbands have finally united into one main power; the Babolan Tribe, which is only 30 years old but has swept the area in a Mongol-like storm. However, their empire is already beginning to crumble, and although they have a massive military, their generals keep the soldiers in large groups, meaning that the empire is crumbling at the seams with little military prescence in towns and cities. Their super-strong army - 200,000 tribesmen armed with wooden carved spears and wicker-wood shields, face off against the 4,000 colonists armed with steel weapons, composite bows, crossbows and even primitive firearms. The 4,000 are on a hill, led by the Ghamadulla Khanate, and they manage to rout the enemy 200,000 with clever use of the black power, crossbows, and horses they own. The Ghamadullans 'liberate' the people under this emerging religion, and rule in peace, blah blah, the end.

As for modern relations, we share an uneasy peace with you guys, since you are officially Christian. We are totally Muslim and often very extreme with how we exercise our views, so it may be that relationships deteriorate as extremists get their grubby paws on jeeps and guns and ride off to Algeria.

Which player controls the Kemets (Egypt and Sudan)? Would be worth giving him a PM since both Bantu and the Allies are trying to reach the Pharoah.
