OOC: Am looking to do a different kind of RP

Postby Burgov » Sat Jan 09, 2010 8:11 pm

Normally i do war or similar Rp-s, so now i was hoping to do a more story driven one, i have a few ideas and am willing to do more or less anything interesting, i was hoping for a character RP by the way but I'm willing to deviate from this. So anyone have an idea or interested?

I do have a few ideas, and am looking for some people who would be interested in doing: A serial killer RP that goes from the serial killer plotting and killing several people to him being convicted to him being murdered in prison, Two to four players there would be nice.

A meaning of life thread, where it follows a bookstore clerk as he ponders the meaning of life and the thought gradually comes to dominate his life, he retreats from society to ponder this, the players would all be different personalties inside his head as he develops schizophrenia and goes about withdrawing from society.

The third idea is still sort of sketchy but in the Medieval era an amazing locksmith creates fabulously intricate locks that cannot be opened unless you have the diagram from which it was made. The locksmith sells these locks to various noble families but more importantly he sells them to a prominent Noble family that perhaps holds some ancient and powerful relic, the locksmith dies and his diagrams are lost. Flash forward to modern day and some unlikely person happens upon the locksmith's tomb, he/she finds a diagram for the lock on the man's tomb, he opens it and inside lies a map, the person travels across a continent going from tomb to tomb until he reaches the one that is thought to hold the ancient relic, at this point he opens it but seizes the relic gaining almost godlike power, he begins to dominate mankind through the use of said relic, while another hero rises, this is the point where it becomes sketchy and all of those playing would have to talk about how to end it.

Hard to be interested if we've got no basis for comparison, knowledge of your nation, or an idea on what it is you're pondering ...

Look around, see what folks are doing, come up with a concept that appeals to you, lay down some guidelines, and enough background for folks to work with, and go from there.

It doesn't have to be overly-complex. It doesn't have to be what anyone else is doing. There's no real limitation. But then, no one's here to think up your things for you and provide entertainment so much as joining in for mutual fun if you've something you'd like to share.

It all comes back around eventually. :)

Good luck on it, whatever you end up deciding on.

Just one thing that most new people to NS mistakenly assume:

War and Character RPs are not mutually exclusive. It all depends on who you RP with. Some people prefer to post ORBATS and technical details about how their F-9X air superiority fighters is awesome and totally neglect characters. Others prefer to create war RPs that feel like participating of a war themed roleplaying game(like the example linked) rather than from a real time strategy game. And others try to keep a balance between both, like myself.

I'm not sure if you'd like steampunk and WWI thematic, but if you'd like, you could sign up for my WWI and Fantasy Steampunk RP in my signature.

What passing bells for those who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.

This sentence makes me sad.

Read what Soviet Steam posted really.

Look at some of the existing ones that are still open.

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith. And that, I fear, for any reasoning, conscious being, would be the cruelest trick of all.
