Just a few hours ago, a hellish scene broke loose in the Arkinesian capital this past evening, as an as yet unknown number of terrorists, claiming responsibility in the name of Arkinesia's Federalist Party, opened fire on civilians in the center of the city. In a bizarre, yet pleasant turn of events, only one person was injured, in spite of the fact that over 12,000 rounds were reportedly fired before police managed to track down and kill the terrorist operatives.
Effect on elections
2010 is an election year for Arkinesia. The elections are close at hand, to be held on the 26th of February. The attack comes at a critical time, where the Federalists are staring down a massive collapse in both Parliament and their presidential candidate having the lowest amount of support of any presidential candidate currently. Federalism has been on the decline for almost a decade now, after its late 1990s heyday.
Repercussions
President Knight spoke immediately following the killing of the terrorists. "We will not allow this mindless violence to continue in the city of freedom," the President said, "nor will we allow this to be a critical decision or factor in our voting choices." In spite of the president's words, few truly believe that the attack will not have an impact on the elections.
