I can't say that with a happy face anymore.

The US Has done it throughout its military history.

MY vehicle counts are unrealitically high because we never really dismantle anything, just mothball it. And with Russian Engineering, our tanks especially, they can handle mothballing.

Cause I don't feel like commenting individually, I'm keeping this whole thing as one post. I actually believe that both pop number and military number have a definite impact on each other and neither can be ignored completely. Of course, this is something that also draws in the cultural differences between nations. I'm playing as a patriotic Celtic nation, with a strong reverence towards the ancient Celtic culture, blended with an interest in connecting with the international community. The end result is an island nation with a strong military, and a culture of warfare where both men and women are skilled fighters. In other words, I use 35 million as my population, with a 30,000 standing army, 10,000 reserve, yet if called upon, realistically I could have anywhere from 12 million to 30 million active troops if I wanted after removing a random number of those who are too old or too young to serve. Furthermore my country has compulsory military service, and so the number of troops could be higher than 30,000. I just keep em low so no one gives me grief. Same with tech numbers, and this is where I see Roski's point. I have a number of Battleships... completely useless by modern warfare standards, but they are still maintained and used out of a respect for the past, tradition, and because they work well as a mobile command centre. I actually had to take a moment to determine whether my donation to the RRF (which hasn't been confirmed) seemed plausible, because I seem to be donating a significant amount of tech, though most of my tech isn't exactly new. Probably the newest thing is the Super Hornets.

All in all, it's possible to RP even with a small nation, and in fact it's a lot more fun and intense, since any conflict can make or break you, resulting in the total destruction of your forces. It just depends on whether you want to put yourself out there and risk it on a principle, or play it safe with numbers and tech. To each his own, I believe, but still I find I get a greater satisfaction in outplaying someone with a smaller force than using hordes to break their will.

Very Brief History of your nation: An exiled royal branch from Viridsolum, who becmae pirates conquered the powerful city-state of Astaria, and began a series of expansions during the Medieval period and beyond. (it was also under control of Denmark and subsequently England at various points if using the RL earth as well)

Centuries later, the now Imperial nation expanded to a colonial Empire. During this time, it had an increasingly liberal bent and gradually introduced democracy. The Empire reached its height in the 1890s, but then stagnated until the 1920s, relying on the balance of power to keep the disparate colonies together.

After a resurgence in the 1920s, a sudden economic collapse in 1931 lead to the gradual break up of the Empire in all but name, and the Valaran nation became increasingly isolationist.

A liberal resurgence took place in the late 1990s, though lapsed once again until 2008, where the financial collapse brought James Alstan to power. He ended the isolationism and the Empire has revived considerably. The rest is history.

Very Brief History of your nation:

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Belgium was founded on 25th July 1945 in the aftermath of the Second World War. The Belgian government wanted to create a new power in Europe but one that would promote peace and be peaceful. After being turned down by France they turned to the United Kingdom. After several weeks of talks after May 8th 1945 it was announced that Belgium, United Kingdom and Ireland would form a new nation to ensure stability in Europe.
Throughout the Cold War the nation came very close to war with the Soviet Union. The closest was in 1983 when Able Arch '83, a NATO exercise, alerted forces of an incoming Soviet missile. The computer was having a glitch, thankfully NATO officials in London decided that it was a false alarm despite millions of people in Europe being rushed to shelters.
Into a new millennium and the nation entered a new golden age. In 2005 the nation celebrated the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the economy was thriving and the nation was at it's best since the '50s. As prosperity continues to this day so does the good livelihood of the people. Despite new culture and technology taking over much of the nation we still remember our old culture and every year we come together to celebrate in pomp and pageantry the Queen's official birthday, a celebration over 300 years old.

Very Brief History of your nation: Xinjie is a product of a failed pivot to North America by the Ming Dynasty. One of Emperor Longqing's new advisors suggested the idea of extending China's influence outside of Asia into North America, and with Longqing always interested in ways to make China stronger and not as invested into traditions as his predecessors were went along with the plan. After some expeditions, some successful contact with Native American tribes, and some contact with Native American that went wrong, China gained tributary states around Southwestern British Columbia and Northwestern Washington. Though unpopular at first, a North American crop that was introduced to China by Native American tributaries turned out to become relatively popular in the country, especially among the elite. Many Chinese merchants traveled to the Tributaries to make what they could off of the popularity before a particularly bad winter that prevented the crop from being sent to China, significantly hurt the Chinese economy. The crop was still shipped off to China, but it's popularity waned. Xinjie sat around for a while, the few merchants who decided to stay in the region going about their business, and the Native American tributaries still paying tribute to the Emperor until the Ming Dynasty fell. the Qing Dynasty saw Xinjie as a waste, and eventually managed to sell it to England in 1702. Xinjie remained a part of England until achieving full independence in 1932. Xinjie absorbed the failed state of Alaska in 1934 over a decade after Alaska gained independence from Russia, but the country fell into bankruptcy and hyperinflation two years later.

Very Brief History of your nation:
When what is now known as Ragno was first settled, it was a colony of a much larger and advanced nation. After around a century of being a colony, the leaders of the colony, along with the colonial administration of the mother country, we were deemed capable of governing ourselves, and therefore, we we to become a Confederation. Our forebearers settled on the name Ragno after the First Nations leader who welcomed us with open arms. To this day, Ragno gets along exceedingly well with its First Nation population. With no wars under its belt, the Ragno military is green but very, very mean. A small but well-trained military, it came about around 20 years after Confederation.
