The Tetrarchs, rulers of Draconia Magna for 6 years now, have abdicated today, on the anniversary of their formal accession to power. They have appointed as their permanent successor Lord Xander, strategos autocrator (Commander-in-Chief) of the Draconian Army. He was chosen as Autocrator (Emperor), with the regal name of Xander I. Long may he reign and the Gods defend him!
The Tetrarchs gave no official reason for abdicating, except that "our purpose has been accomplished and we may retire in peace".
The new Emperor will be crowned on March 21, the vernal equinox. He was reportedly selected from a list of candidates who didn't even know that they were in contention or that a change was in the works. There was no exact statement of why the Tetrarchs handpicked Lord Xander, but there is speculation that his pivotal and heroic role in the defense of New Olwe and liberation of Free Cappadocia clinched it for him....that perhaps the Tetrarchs just wanted a war hero on the throne.
