"Let the games begin!" ...

... Is a common phrase spoken by the Senatorial Speaker when finishing their announcement of the Presidential elections. Since Oliver Scott had seized power in 2009, the nation had gone down a scary path of warmongering and economic stagnation. Unemployment increased by 0.857% during that time, heavy participation in foreign conflicts had increased as well. The political system had been reformed in favor of the Socialist Worker's Alliance/Party, which had illegitimately seized power between Senatorial elections, quickly transforming it into a dominant-party state. The Fourtese Socialist Republic was walking on a thin, thin line. One bad decision and that line could *snap* in an instant.

The people rejoiced; they stood in the city square of Hicastu, chanting the hymns of democracy, pleading for a leader who would represent the actual democratic socialism District XIV holds so dear to its heart. Thousands stood and waved banners for the newly formed "Democratic People's Alliance", a social democratic party with an aim to increase economic growth within the nation while still keeping the state ideology, democratic socialism, within reach. Said party's leader, Mikhael Faye, promises new reforms to turn the republic back into a free social democratic democracy where the economy can flourish under some regulation.

Oliver Scott, the incumbent President, referred to this party as a "sham" and "a disgrace to our values". Spokespeople for the Scott President Administration regularly state the Democratic People's Alliance as being a "centrist organization with no backing" and "are disrespectful to the ideologies we've obeyed for hundreds of years."

"Her Imperial Majesty is concerned with the Fourtese Republic's current administration and warns that any act taken against the Fourtese People will only lead to their downfall; the People have the power, not those they elect. However, Her Imperial Majesty does not intend to display any expression that would offend or incite you, the Fourtese People, we are aware that we have no right at all to praise or criticize anybody who's allegiance lies with another sovereign state. Nevertheless, to those who think others might be and are offended, we humbly would like to make known that we are sorry.

Candidate for the once-underground Democratic People's Alliance, Mikhael Faye, was announced by Senate Speaker Karonai today that he had indeed won the race, as many predicted. The final tally was 46% for Faye, 38% for outgoing President Scott, and 17% for Karry.

Faye made an extremely brief 'speech' today for his inauguration, in which he promised he would "continue to fund Fourtese welfare programs to so ensure a bright future for unfortunate" and "make diplomatic connections with foreign states to improve and expand our diplomacy 'net'."

Outgoing President, Oliver Scott, commented that he "wished the best" and "also hopes for a bright future, for all Fourtese [peoples]." No further comment from other sources were made on the outcome of the election.
