A NationStates World Map?

Postby Your People United » Tue Dec 15, 2009 5:51 pm

I apologize if this problem has been addressed yet, but could we possibly have all of the people of NationStates combine and conference your different map ideas, so if ever needed for role playing, can be easily accessible for placing your countries and seeing a realistic view of war/role playing skirmishing, since it takes time for it.

Maybe if everyone could change the form of their nations to form whole globes.

First off there are too many nations to try and fit them all on one planet, and many nations use RL nation maps and placement as their own. Take a look at the map of the region I'm part of...Fatal Terrain - those red and blue alternating bar's edging it? - those are 1,000 mile markers. We cover something like 30 time zones.

the NS earth is huge - a super giant planet ( it has to be) and there are many alternate/ fractal earths as well - AMW, Earth II and others. Trying to even fit regions only on a map has been tried an failed - just to many.

Earth II, AMW, the Milky Way Map (FT) are designed for this.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.- Carl Sagan

I volunteer to help draw up this map. And I don't care much for a huge territory. I only want a small corner of the world for my tiny island continent. Well, tiny in comparison to all the other gigantic nations.

I Like the Idea, But It's Impractical to Enforce. People Would Not Use the Map, Some Would Refuse to Be On it. It Would Have to Be Updated Regularly. So, Great Idea. Never Going to Work.

I wanted this too, when I joined. NS RP was just too hard for me to do when it didn't make some sort of spacial sense. Eventually, I opted to join A Modern World. It is buckets of fun, but definitely requires a bit of "work" and consistency, so it might not be for everyone.

I recommend searching for an RP group like AMW or the other ones mentioned here in this thread if you want a map. Otherwise, it isn't workable at all.

There already is a world map. I'll find it for you soon, I don't exactly know where I can find it right now.

Behold the map in all its glory. It doesn't have national boundaries, it only has the landmasses of RP regions.

Of course, this doesn't take into account the majority of nations. But it's the closest thing to a world map you will every see.

I am microscopic on that map anyways...

Well, I've only been a member for a few weeks now, but essentially its a MT RP group. Rather than be a completely new region or planet, AMW is more historical fiction than anything. We use a map of Earth, with real-world population figures. Additionally, some folks have decided to play RL nations, but most are made-up nations. For example, Great Britain still exists, as does the Byzantine Empire. The United States, however, does not; instead there are 5 nations within where the US would be. The Bolsheviks never won the revolution in AMW, for example, and so a state called Kieven Rus (essentially Tsarist Russia in modern times) exists in it's place. These are just a few examples.

The application thread (click here) for AMW is useful. Read it all, if you can. If not, do what I did and just read the first five or six pages and the last five or six. Please keep in mind that AMW isn't something you can do for a couple weeks and then quit or change your nation. The group at large expects consistency and continuity (which is ultimately what drives people to AMW in the first place, IMO) over anything. Also, the application process can be slow, but if you're patient and able to commit, AMW is awesome.

Also, the discussion thread is useful, too. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1953

Our regions' page and our off-site forums are in the application thread.

Thank You! This was Most Satisfactory! I Will Definitely Consider Joining, but Not with this Nation. Probably Sufidan, who Posted on this Thread Earlier.
