Perhaps it's time to make this thread Semi-Closed? (Still accepting applicants)

I agree with making it semi-closed; frankly I was surprised the rp was still open this late into it.

I second (third?) this proposal.

The last thing we need is that Greycoat guy to stop by and deploy "5 million soldiers 1 million tanks 500,000 planes and 1,000 missiles."

Close. It's more like a cross between a nuke and a cluster-bomb. At high altitude, the outer casing breaks off and the smaller warheads inside are each individually guided toward a single target.

It's been a full week since imp last posted, are we to assume to assume the rp has died? It would be a shame, considering the conference could have been an important turning point...

I feel your concern. For the most part, the last handful of RPs I've taken part in ended up dying out as one vital player or another stopped posting. It's a shame - I felt this one had some great potential, what with the good writing and acceptable realism.

But really, I shouldn't be one to talk - this week's been a terrible storm of homework and term papers, and next week may be even worse. I'll do my best to put up a post on the diplomatic conference within 24 hours, but I can't make any guarantees.

Papas still here.

Worst case, we can have the OP forfiet his OPness due to inactivity and take this RP on without him, such that we can have Canon for our nations.

It depends. My rule of thumb is to carry on without the OP once the "last reported government activity" on their nation page reaches one week.

But even that's imperfect... I recall one time last summer when the OP vanished long enough that they became "Ex-Nation," so the remaining players divided their nation into occupied zones as the setup for a "East/West Germany" style conflict in the future. But then the OP reactivated their nation, which put us in a rather embarrassing situation.

I suggest that someone TG Imperania (I can't, I have to go in a minute) and ask if they still want to continue with this RP. After all, this is their nation we're dealing with - we can't just keep on playing and let them accept whatever happens in their absence.

I feel Imp is a bit too much of a key player in this scenario, since the talks revolved primarily around imp settling its affairs with you, to have his status forfeit. Unless someone simply takes on his role, I'm not sure how we can withdraw him from the rp.

I'll give you an example, personally:

I propped up a puppet, Roulnik, inside of Lolloh.

So now Lolloh makes the stupid decision to hand control over to another player in the RP.

This guy goes and changes the password, so it's now his.

Then, he uses the RPed population of 'Roulnik', since his is just 5 million.

Lo n' behold, once his population increases, threw NS, to actually compete with Roulnik he forgoes the RP population and takes the NS population.

Which mind you, is constantly growing threwout the RP.

So basically, in my Canon (and in how I RP, I've even used it in this thread iirc) Roulnik is still my puppet, sharing a border with Lolloh with whom I have strained IC relations.

Now, for this disreputable move I ignore Isle of (the?) Lost and Inyourfaceistan. The latter is a poor RPer and super douchebag. In actual post length he's not bad, his grasp on realism is however sickeningly bad.

I actually tried to RP with him a little while ago, but I had to leave. He's just too big of a piece of shit.

-----

In another thread, Noxerra iirc, right at the very end of his Civil War RP he left. I wrote the end of the RP myself, before he became an ex-nation.

-----

The simple fact of the matter is this:

If you leave an RP, and especially when you're the OP, the others who have given their time and dedication, patiently waiting, deserve closure.

So if Imperania DOES come back he has forfieted his OPness in this RP.

But, what is Canon for a nation is entirely decided by THAT nation.

If for Imperania, it is not Canon (whether he completes this RP with us or not) that we occupied his NW and NE, then in his timeline it didn't happen. It doesn't matter if he fully participated in this thread or not.

And the very same principle applies for us as to whether we consider it Canon that NW and NE Imperania is occupied.

It's just poor form to have different Canon for the same events.

But it's much poorer form to leave an RP that you're an OP in.

Someone would need to take on his role.

The only problem is we lack a pro-Imperania party.

Perhaps Mizrad? But they are biased since they want two cities in the NE... ofc not I...

I never said I wanted two cities in the NE, I was just asking permission to set up bases there and give the massive amount of troops stationed at Union Air Base some breathing room by spreading them around the country.

Oh, someone TGed me about occupying two cities in the NE.

Anyways, I figure that can be an international counter-balance of my larger occupation of the NW, which is predominantly Firmadores.

All this talk about cities and bases is giving me an idea, if we wanted to re-kindle this RP into a "hot" conflict.

In its current state, the Soodean high command is fueled by passionate ideology and believes it has a supreme mission to "uphold justice, defend the innocent, and smite the dishonorable." If they think someone has committed any kind of war crime, they're liable to push political relations to the side and attack outright. So if someone tried to occupy or annex Imperianian land, causing civilian casualties in the process, I could have the Soodeans use allegations of imperialism as Casus Belli to short-sightedly engage the aggressor's force, sparking a war.

Naturally, I won't go ahead with this if everyone would rather keep things as they are. And if Imperania returns, this suggestion is null and void. Not to mention that, as I've said before, this week and the next will leave me with very little free time. I'm just putting it out there as a possible option if Imperiania really is gone and other people want to continue the conflict.

Well, most of the population in NW Imperania is Firmadores.

However, there would likely be ethnic reprisals. If you wanted to spend money and stay after in peace-keeping you'd see them. If your gov't opted out, well media black outs work wonders.

But me and Mizrad will be entering a war against each other soon, so we may be rather occupied. What do you think Mizrad?
